irdgaf about ships all that much, i think this show is far too complex and interesting to be reduced to something as trivial as ship wars, but i will ALWAYS draw the line at people saying louis is not a victim of abuse and that there are âtwo sides to the storyâ when the story in question is the abuse he went through at the hands of his romantic partners
#especially now with the trial episode coming iâm seeing a lot of people going âoh weâre finally gonna see the other side of the storyâ#and like⌠NO. ABSOLUTELY FUCKING NOT.#there are no two sides to abuse#and lestatâs version isnât the actual one btw#louis and claudia were both abused by lestat AND armand later on#louis on his own is also a problematic character but that does not warrant the abuse that was inflicted onto him#like⌠theyâre all fucked up and have done awful things but louis (and claudia but she hasnât done anything wrong!!!) is clearly the victim#interview with the vampire#louis de pointe du lac#loustat#loumand

anyway speaking of the new teaser i am admittedly a bit of a lestat hater but after watching that i think this new season might make me enjoy his character a lot more
#genuinely quite hype for rockstar!lestat#also the name dropping of hedwig and rocky horror specifically as influences is very intriguing#bc my first thought when i heard those was âoh are we getting some gender fuckeryâ#i really hope we're getting gender fuckery#i mean just bc both those shows do similar-ish Things With Gender doesn't mean that's what's happening here#i can already start to see the influences in the musical style and general vibe of the teaser alone without any gender stuff#(beyond male rockstar-typical androgyny)#but I'd love to see vampires playing with gender bullshit#also i think it would be really funny if adulterer/abuser/serial killer lestat gets cancelled for like. having a problematic gender#but regardless between those influences and the teatre des vampires in s2#this show is really catering to my edgy theater kid soul#iwtv#iwtv s3#the vampire lestat#rockstar lestat

dni if you support relationships between vampires and the vampire they sired. i am so serious, i dont care what your justification is, that is an unforgivable power imbalance. its almost as bad as vampire human relationships (and if you support that i hope you get a splinter in the heart)

op what the fuck is your problem? more maggots in your brain than usual? go out into the real underworld and touch some graveyard dirt. i know at least 7 vampires who are in happy healthy relationships with the vampire who sired them. me included! this may shock you but we started dating when i was human and she was a vamp!

People who are concerned about problematic or triggering kinks often couch these concerns in highly reasonable-sounding reactions and make what seems like highly reasonable requests.
They point out that lots of the most upsetting kinks may remind a person of their worst traumas, for example, and that these kinks, when played out, can resemble actual abuse so closely that the kink communities may attract bad actors who genuinely do wish to do harm.
They may allow that some kink practitioners are themselves survivors, and tolerate taboo kink's existence insofar as the correct people find it therapeutic, but they'll qualify that it should always be made clear what is fantasy and what is reality.
But ultimately, people making these arguments will assert, there are certain things that a simply beyond the pale -- across the line and wrong.
A lot of people say these things earnestly, and mean them, and I don't think they intend any harm in saying them. And in comporting their own personal lives, these guardrails may more or less apply well for them. But where it becomes a problem is in issuing dictates about how other people should act, and how kink friendly spaces should run, and how people who hold taboo kinks ought to be regarded.
Does it protect victims to view their kinks as inherently morally suspect?
Does treating a person who is forthright about their taboo desires and who has found a consensual venue to express those desires as more potentially predatory than your random vanilla cishet man help us make kink spaces that are safe?
Is it *true* having a fetish or kink makes a person more dangerous than someone that doesn't?
What's an acceptable reason to have a taboo fetish and what's an unacceptable reason? Who decides?
How might linking sexual practices that are already highly stigmatized and associated with queernees to abuse lead to increasing those group members' vulnerability?
Are communities where vetting of sexual play partners and frank discussions of consent are routine somehow more dangerous to be in than the vanilla world, where such things rarely happen?
What is a suitable way of flagging that fantasy is fantasy and real life is real life? Who decides?
Are certain real life enactments of a fantasy always wrong even when they are consensual, simply because they look bad/intense?
Which practices are okay to partake in in real life?
Who decides? Who decides? What happens to the people who violate those other people's rules?
You don't have to be interested in every kink and you don't have to visit all kink spaces. It's fine if you find certain fetishes disturbing, gross, triggering, a deal breaker, or reminiscent of your own abuse (and I'm really sorry that those things happened to you). But those entirely legitimate feelings in NO way translate to a need for anyone to place restrictions on how others play or fantasize or comport themselves in their own spaces.
Not all spaces will be for you, but please understand that for those of us who are kinky and queer, 99.9999999999% of all social spaces in the world are already viscerally violently NOT for us. Let us have our spaces to pretend to be puppy dogs and kitty cats and siblings and vampires and home invaders and monsters and rape victims and rapists and murderers and dead bodies and babies and robots and dolls and video game characters and everything else.
You don't have to like it but you don't have the authority to say we don't get to do it, and nobody should.

@lyinoptimist On why Louis is a better character with a richer story because of the way they brought race into the show:
[captioned: I agree with his Interview with the Vampire take, and it's not just that I care more that they're black, it's that I care more that they are black in a world where the creators know that they are black and write the story accordingly.
I remember when they cast Jacob Anderson to play Louis in this story a couple years ago and people were confused and nervous and a little bit angry as to why they cast this black man to play a character, who at least in the original story was a plantation owner that owned slaves & let them go I think eventually, but still it's like "what is this choice that you're making?" and the creators were like "no, no we know what we did".
And so now Louis like owns a brothel instead, and it's like Creole and like down in Louisiana 1920s, and you're like, "Oh, that's a pretty solid adaptational choice."
And I think ultimately the decision makes Louis look a lot more relatable, and also makes the story a lot more relatable because at least it would be harder for me to recommend this story if old Louis was the one I was telling you was in this really great show. It's like, "yeah... but he owned slaves...", you know what I mean?
It's just one of the things where it's not something I have to get into with other black fans who are really into like fantasy stuff who maybe don't want to engage in that sort of like problematic content.
Beyond Louis and Claudia being black and then Armand being like South Asian, it also gives us a really interesting look into different readings of the text now that the characters playing it are adapted in this way. This happens a lot in season one remember... like, because Lestat makes both Louis and Claudia he can no longer read their minds, but Louis and Claudia can still read each other's minds. And so in this kind of familial dynamic they've established for themselves, Louis and Claudia have this literal telepathic understanding that Lestat will just never be privy to and you can kind of read into that. It's like a metaphor for their relationship being with two black people in the household and then moving through the world and understanding the world in a way that is just different from Lestat. There's an underlying racial anxiety to Louis and Lestat's relationship that makes it, you know, more complex and like more fun to watch.
Season two there's less of it, but you have things like racialized trauma being used as the backbone for the trauma that the characters are experiencing to both highlight how horrific the things they're going through actually are.
Like Armand and his like, being sexually abused as a child in that specific way very much has the connotation of like, this happened to him because he was a vulnerable brown child and this very powerful white vampire came--presumably, i don't know who they're gonna cast but i was reading into it--came by and did this to him. And it's like, okay yeah, that complicates that dynamic a bit more.
Same thing with the execution that happens to Louis, Claudia, and Madeline at the very end of the season which is very reminiscent of, like-- Claudia even calls it a stoning but I would also argue that there's, like, elements of, like lynching to it, right?
Like, it's very horrific in a very relatable way to Black people, which I think it's drawing upon that but it's not necessarily like glorifying it in that way in order to like make the point that it wants about like, the tragedy that these characters are going through and I think it just makes the story that much richer and allows for a lot more interesting new perspectives because these characters are people of color now and that's what you can do with a good adaptation and like, these creators they understand that. ]

"smut", censorship & why we must defend the freedom to read

Every era polices its stories. Today, the battleground is digital: TikTok, Twitter, and Tumblr simmer with moral panics over âproblematicâ fiction. At the heart of this debate lies a paradox: in an age that champions individuality and free expression, why are readersâparticularly women and queer communitiesâincreasingly shamed for enjoying narratives labeled âdark romance,â âsmut,â or âspicyâ? These terms, weaponized as shorthand for âmorally bankrupt,â obscure a deeper cultural anxiety: the fear of stories that center taboo desires, power dynamics, or unapologetic female agency. What begins as criticism of tropes often escalates into demands for censorship, blurring the line between discourse and dogma. The stakes here transcend genreâthis is about who gets to control narratives, and why.
Censorship has always targeted the marginalized. In the 19th century, novels like Madame Bovary and Lady Chatterleyâs Lover were deemed âobsceneâ for depicting female desire outside patriarchal norms. By the mid-20th century, paperback romances adorned with shirtless heroes (think Fabio rescuing a swooning heroine) dominated bookstore racks. These novels were dismissed as frivolous âchick lit,â relegated to the realm of harmless escapism. Yet they sold millions, offering women a rare space to claim ownership of their fantasies.
Fast-forward to today. Their spiritual successorsâstories exploring BDSM, morally gray relationships, or traumaâface a more insidious suppression: algorithmic shadow-banning, deplatforming, and viral callout campaigns that frame readers as complicit in harm. The shift from physical book burnings to digital erasure reflects a new puritanism, one couched in progressive language but rooted in the same paternalism: âThese ideas are too dangerous for you.â Platforms like TikTok, which amplify outrage for engagement, reduce complex narratives to soundbite controversies. A single tropeâa mafia romanceâs nonconventional relationship, a bully romanceâs power imbalanceâis stripped of context, becoming fodder for hashtag activism. Lost in this frenzy is the distinction between depiction and endorsement, between art and advocacy.
Critics of dark romance often argue, âThese stories normalize abuse!â Yet this concern is selectively applied.Â
Consider:
Male-Centric Media: Films like Fight Club (domestic terrorism, toxic masculinity) and The Sopranos (misogyny, murder) are analyzed as âcomplex art.â Video games like Grand Theft Auto let players enact mass violence, yet their audiences arenât accused of glorifying crime.
Queer and Feminist Narratives: Stories by marginalized authorsâe.g., Carmilla (lesbian vampirism) or Tampa (female predator tropes)âface disproportionate scrutiny. Their themes are pathologized, their audiences interrogated.
This double standard reveals a cultural discomfort with women and queer people claiming narrative autonomy. Dark romance, often written by and for women, subverts the âpure heroineâ archetype, allowing charactersâand readersâto explore rage, desire, and imperfection. To dismiss these stories as âtoxicâ is to deny women the right to messy, multifaceted representation.
Fiction is a laboratory for the human experience. Psychologists argue that dark themes in art serve as simulations, letting readers safely confront fears, taboos, or repressed emotions. A 2019 study in Psychology of Aesthetics found that readers of transgressive fiction often engage in more ethical reasoning, not less, as they analyze charactersâ choices.
Consider the appeal of dark romance:
Agency in Restriction: Heroines navigating oppressive worlds (e.g., mafia romances) often reclaim power within constraints, mirroring real struggles against systemic misogyny.
Catharsis Through Hyperbole: Exaggerated tropes (obsessive love, revenge plots) externalize internalized emotions, offering emotional release.
Censoring such works doesnât protect readersâit infantilizes them, implying they canât separate fiction from reality.
History shows that censorship rarely stops at âprotectingâ audiences. Once normalized, it expands to suppress dissent:
1980s âSatanic Panicâ: Moral crusades against Dungeons & Dragons and heavy metal music targeted countercultural communities.
2020s Book Bans: U.S. schools have banned texts like Gender Queer and The Hate U Give, conflating LGBTQ+ and anti-racist narratives with âobscenity.â
Calls to censor smut follow the same playbook: frame subjective discomfort as objective harm, then demand removal âfor the greater good.â But who decides whatâs âharmfulâ? Algorithms? Politicians? Corporations? Amazonâs arbitrary delisting of LGBTQ+ romance novels in 2021 (âcontent violationsâ) proves corporate censorship is already hereâand itâs arbitrary.
To censor âsmutâ is to endorse a world where stories are policed by the timid, the authoritarian, or the algorithm. It undermines foundational principles:
Freedom of Literature: Art is not a public service announcement. It must be free to provoke, unsettle, and challenge.
Reader Autonomy: Trust adults to choose their media. Advocacy for content warnings and nuanced critique is valid; eradication is not.
Media Pluralism: A free society requires diverse narrativesâincluding those deemed uncomfortable, âimmoral,â or politically inconvenient.
The fight against censorship isnât about defending specific tropes; itâs about resisting the idea that any story is âtoo dangerousâ to exist. As Salman Rushdie wrote, âWhat is freedom of expression? Without the freedom to offend, it ceases to exist.â Let readers revel in their smut, their Shakespeare, their sapphic space operas. Let them dissect, debate, or devour stories without shame.
The alternativeâa sanitized, homogeneous cultural landscapeâis a far darker tale.
Defend the right to read. Defend the freedom to imagine. And never apologize for the stories that make us human.

sad announcement
corporate has been on my ass for months and well unfortunately we're going to have to swap our content. inflation and stuff you get it.
from now on this blog only posts bottom female readers. so sorry for the inconvenience and pain this causes. im so sorry that it came to this but the focus groups are in and the numbers say that pathetic masochist bottoms are out and sadistic tops are in. i dont know yet how this is going to change the landscape of my content. i don't know how this will impact the characters you've grown to love.
some implements I've been pushed to make so far:
ares is no longer a wife he's now your husband. women don't want to call their strong masculine spouses wife its not sexy.
emil is mostly unchanged but now he doesn't love dick anymore he loves pussy. unforseen how this will change him.
nephite has had to go through some of the biggest changes. he's now an incredibly alpha chad farm boy who actually chases and captures his wife and keeps her tied in the shed. i know some of you will appreciate this change to his entire character.
silvan remains your pet however now you have no control over him and he does what he wants and takes whatever he wants from you. his helpless vampire mistress.
ajax has been cancelled for problematic behavior we discovered upon changing him to topping women only.
achilles is now a cool bad ass mob boss who buys you off the streets. all traces of masochism has been scrubbed from his personality.
noemie has been completely role swapped and you are now his pathetic simpering victim and he is an incredibly buff serial killer. women have no interest in trans men so that aspect of his character has been completely scrubbed. and for those of you saying "wait noemie was trans?" no. no he isn't.
seven has been cancelled for problematic behavior regarding women.
kao's darling has had the biggest shift and is now a soft waifish little healer who is delicate and needs to be protected at all costs. kao is a domineering abusive aggressor. as are most of the characters here.
amias has been kept much the same however now he just kidnaps you and forces you to live with him. there is no noncon if we don't think about it.
elias has been changed into an extremely muscular man who constantly breaks out of containment to have his way with you the daughter of one of the expert scientists.
phillip is much the same as well however he is younger to be more acceptable to a general audience and the darling has been turned into a pathetic helpless damsel who needs constant supervision from her older mentor like figure.

Can I ask you something? Do you think DL romanticises abuse? I saw a lot of people say so and idk how to feel about it ;-;
// Whoever says that must have just learned the word âromanticizationâ and started throwing it around without doing any actual research.
To romanticize something means to present it in an idealized way, which is not the case with Diabolik Lovers. The gameâs summary explicitly states that it features DO-S vampires, meaning its main audience naturally consists of DO-M individuals aka masochists. If you donât have masochistic tendencies or fantasies, youâre NOT supposed to find the events of the game âattractiveâ because they arenât meant for YOU.
Moreover, anyone starting this game should already have an idea of what theyâre getting into. Youâre romancing sadistic beings who, by nature, donât adhere to human morals. Thatâs why I donât understand why some people act so shocked by their behavior when the game clearly states what to expect. Heck, even the title says DIABOLIK! If you read âsadistic vampiresâ and somehow assume theyâll be sweet and considerate from the start, that sounds like a you problem.
And then thereâs the classic âBut what about young girls playing this? Games like this shouldnât exist!â argument. The games are literally rated 15+ and 17+. By that age, the average teenager is fully capable of distinguishing right from wrong and differentiating fiction from reality. If someone still lacks that ability at 15 or 17, thatâs not the fault of a dark romance otome game, but the fault of failed school education and poor parenting. After all, this type of media is not responsible for teaching morality, so the expectation that otome games should only be wholesome or educational is really dumb. These games are a form of escapism. They allow people to explore fantasies they might never want in real life, and only enjoy engaging with in a fictional setting. Just as horror fans can enjoy gory movies without wanting to do the same irl, people who like dark romance can engage with sadistic characters without condoning their actions irl.
What I find particularly frustrating is how women are often the ones judging other women over this. Itâs ironic because, in doing so, they end up reinforcing the idea that women are âtoo stupid to distinguish whatâs real from whatâs notâ. The truth is, most women CAN separate fiction from reality. Most women DONâT take seriously everything they read or watch.
Meanwhile, men play games featuring pâŹdophilia and incâŹst without nearly the same level of backlash, which is so unfair. But, the moment a woman has fantasies about a morally wrong/grey fictional character, people act like itâs the most problematic thing ever.

Gotta wake up to this anon in the tags, undoubtedly referencing/shading what I reblogged here:
Nonny, at least say it to my face if you wanna call me an internalized misogynist, just cuz I don't cosign the predominately white court of popular opinion's dogma that ONLY sees Lestat as the female-coded victim of Louis' "abuse" of the crossdressing campy Queen Mother de Lioncourt; while you reject any acknowledgement let alone honest discussion of Lestat as the patriarchal Coven Master terrorizing his fledglings/children--even in effing 2022 when he's setting Rat Catcher ablaze with the Fire Gift in Louis' honor & kicking him out in to the hurricane--another round in the stormy romance of you two.
And plot twist: I (mostly) agree with nonny about Anne Rice, and how she engages with (trans)gender through Louis--and I agree with Nalyra that there's also complexity to how AR engages with Lestat LATER--10+ years AFTER IWTV & her daughter Michelle's death.
It's not at all easy to pin down, especially when in these convos about Loustat & gender, the most integral part of their dynamic is ALWAYS EXCLUDED by Lestans: CLAUDIA. She's only babytrapped cuz, as I've said 1000 times, Lestat was hyperaware of LOUIS' emotional/behavioral resemblance TO LESTAT'S MOTHER, GABRIELLE; and Louis' "maternal instinct," that resembled ANNE'S own excitement to be a mom.

Anne Rice is NOT saying Louis (or even Lestat!) represents her as a woman (in METAPHOR, not biology, DUH) cuz he crossdresses & gallivants around twirling his hair & flicking his limp wrists--I already discussed the effect of 18th century Franco-European dandyism on an 18th-century vampire stuck in the Rococo period (X X), where clothing is just ONE aspect of how masculinity & femininity are expressed--BY MEN.
Gender is MORE than Loustat crossdressing. Like I've said: it's misognyist to assume that everyone crossdressing is female-coded, while blatantly ignoring their BEHAVIOR--just like Nalyra said:
I have screamed & hollered from the rooftops this whole time how the power dynamics between Loustat are being grossly misunderstood or outright overlooked, as everyone gets distracted by fun & c*nty Lestat. Somehow, ONLY Lestat gets to represent Mother, but LOUIS DOESN'T!? Sus! But I'M the misogynist homophobe for calling y'all RACISTS who can't acknowledge/accept a Black gay man in a suit (or cardigan) as a female-coded representation of motherhood, when the show's beat y'all over the head with it 1000 times? SUS!
Esp. when I explicitly say Louis AS Woman, Louis AS Mother--nonny, grab a dictionary and realize that I didn't say Louis IS Mother, Louis IS Woman--it's SIMILE. It's METAPHOR. It's PARALLEL. It's CODING.
It's highly problematic to reject AR's own words being "not solid" evidence (anon), or downplay it as outdated/irrelevant (Nalyra), just cuz it doesn't align with your own interpretations. That's not how proper analysis of primary sources works. It's CONTEXTUAL evidence about the processes of personal growth; just like it's contextual how AR couched her shift to Lestat in direct relation to her tryna move past her maternal depression/grief via Louis. You cannot discuss one without the other, but that's all I ever see far too many ppl do: downplaying the foundational conceptualization of these characters within the books, film, and show alike; and hiding behind accusations of homophobia & misogyny rather than honestly engaging with the characters and their behavior. You wanna talk about misogyny? How about MISOGYNOIR, and how y'all don't know EFF ALL about BLACK MOTHERHOOD, and the hypermasculinization of Black gay men, to even BEGIN to fathom everything Louis represents in contrast & relation to Massa Lestat.
Cuz there's CERTAINLY a marked lack of discussion or acknowledgement about how race factors into all of this. I see NO mention/discussion/analysis of Lestat by that anon rejecting the other side of the conversation I'm arguing against--esp. the white privilege Lestat enjoys that allows him to be far freer with explorations of gender & sexuality than black!Louis, and thus embraced by his predominately white cis female fans--who find it so effing impossible/offensive to see the ways that HIS BEHAVIOR directly contradicts the feminist ideals about agency & autonomy they allege to hold oh-so-sacred--"crushing what you cannot own."
Which only further indicates that this particular propping up of Lestat in the fandom is being done at Louis'' expense in bad faith by bad actors running to everyone's accounts on anon and obfuscating the context they're even responding to.
Claudia never lied: "It's a STONING."

Chapter Seven
âAre you alright?â Karen asked, pulling your attention from your pancakes. âYouâve been really quiet.â
Your cheeks warmed and you immediately felt bad; sheâd shown up early to go to breakfast with you before taking you to the Met, and all youâd been able to think about was the Homeland agent whoâd approached you the night before.
âIâm fine,â you answered, forcing a smile. âJust tired. We were out late last night.â
âBilly took you out?â She seemed surprised.
âHe took me dress shopping,â you explained, reaching for your coffee. âHeâs throwing a party next month and he wanted me to have a new dress.â
âOh, his Vampire Night party,â Karen nodded and you shot her a confused look. âHe does it every year, itâs to celebrate the anniversary vampireâs being accepted into society. Itâs supposed to be a big deal but, for Billy, itâs just an excuse to throw a crazy party every year.â
âDoes he normally invite the person whoâs...â you struggled for a moment, not wanting to out-and-out state what you did in the busy little diner, âworking for him when he throws parties?â
âUsually - I mean, itâd be pretty shitty to throw a party in the penthouse and not invite the other person living there.â
âSo, the others, they all went to his parties and they enjoyed themselves?â
âYeah, if thereâs one thing Billy knows, itâs how to throw a good party,â she answered, fixing you with a look, as if she could sense there was more you wanted to ask. âWhy the sudden interest?â
âI donât know,â you shrugged, trying to pretend it wasnât a big deal. âIt just seemed like such an easy job and, I guess, I just donât understand why anyone would do anything to ruin it for themselves. Do you know what happened to them once they left?â
You needed something, some sort of sign, to tell you that you werenât wrong, that you were safe with Billy. And, if you werenât...
Well, in that case, you needed to find a way out that didnât involve going home with your tail between your legs.
âAs far as I know, they all went back to their lives. Though there was one...â Karen trailed off, the thought alone making her wince. You shot her a questioning look, silently begging her to continue. âNot the last one, but the one before, she had to be removed by building security. She tried to come back a couple of times but she eventually got the hint.â
The one before the last one - so, one of the last three, one of the ones Madani thought was dead. Sheâd been fine when she left and sheâd been seen a couple of times since. So, that meant that Homeland was wrong about Billy, right?
With your mind set at ease, you happily finished breakfast and, before you knew it, you and Karen were stepping into the Met. You felt like a kid at Christmas. It was everything youâd imagined and more. Karen could barely hold back her amusement as you moved from exhibit to exhibit, never seeming to lose any of your initial excitement. It was something youâd always wanted to do, filled with things youâd always wanted to see.
By lunch time, poor Karen needed to sit down, and you needed a coffee so you ended up in the cafe. When Karen headed to the bathroom, you looked over the map, making a mental note of what youâve seen and what you still wanted to see. Distracted, you didnât notice the figure beside you until sheâd taken a seat. The Homeland agent, Madani.
âAre you following me?â You demanded, keeping your voice low.
âIâm trying to keep you safe,â Madani answered, ignoring your sharp tone. âHave you thought any more about what we discussed last night?â
âLook, I donât know what you think you know, but Iâm pretty sure Billy hasnât done anything wrong.â
She fumbled with her pocket, quickly pulling out her phone and showing it to you. âThese are the three missing women; Layla El-Faouly, Krista Dumont and Mary Poots.â With each name she moved to a different photo, letting you see each of the missing women. âHas he mentioned any of those names?â
âNo.â
âAre you sure? Have you seen anything in his penthouse that might belong to them?â You shook your head, quickly feeling overwhelmed by all of the questions.
âNo, and anyway, you said the last three women, right?â You asked and Madani nodded. âPeople have seen one of them since. She even got thrown out of Billy's building a couple of times.â
âYou're sure of that?â
âYes,â frustration slipping into your tone. âWhatever you're looking for, it's not -â
âHas Russo done anything to hurt you? Is he forcing you into a sexual relationship or have you felt like youâre being controlled?â
âWhat? No.âÂ
âYou might not even realise that heâs doing it. Some vampires are very good at controlling their victims, Russo is -â
âHeâs not controlling me,â you told her as firmly as you could, glancing around, hoping to spot Karen. âCan you please leave me alone? I donât want to lose my job because of this.â
âI can protect you -â
âI donât need protection, I need this job,â you told her. âPlease, I wasnât kidnapped, he hasnât hurt me, and I know he hasnât hurt anyone else. Can you please just leave me alone before you cause any trouble?â
âOkay, Iâll go,â Madani relented, âbut Iâll be close by if you need me.â
You muttered that you wouldnât as she stood and left, just in time for Karen to return.
âWho was that?â
âShe was asking me for directions,â you lied, as you stood, not wanting to think about anything Madani had said to you.Â
It was all crazy, ridiculous. You werenât being coerced or controlled and you still didnât believe Billy was capable of hurting anyone. Fortunately, there were plenty of exhibits left to distract you for the rest of the day.
By the time you returned to the penthouse it was getting late. You rushed to draw blood and to throw some pasta onto the stove. When you were done, you found Billy on the sofa, his eyes fixed on the view of the city until he heard you approach.
He smiled and you felt butterflies, and there was a spring in your step as you made your way to the kitchen to grab a glass for his blood before joining him on the sofa.
âYou look nice.â His eyes trailing down your body.
âOh,â you looked down at yourself and the skirt-blouse combination, âKaren took me to the Met. We got back late. I havenât had time to change yet.â
âIâm glad,â Billy said, taking the glass from your hand, âI love your legs.â
Your cheeks warmed and you bit your lip. As much as Billy liked to pay you compliments, you still werenât used to it. Honestly, you werenât sure youâd ever get used to it, especially when Billy managed to make every compliment sound simultaneously sweet and filthy.
âI got you something,â he said a moment later, motioning to a large paper bag on the floor in front of him. Cautiously, you pulled it towards you and pulled out a large yellow, faux-fur blanket. âYou can leave it out here for when we watch TV together.â
Butterflies filled your stomach at the gesture, but there was one thought you couldnât quite shake; âitâs yellow.â
And yellow didnât exactly match the dark and minimalist decor in the penthouse.
âIt made me think of you when I saw it,â Billy shrugged.
The butterflies in your stomach seemed to multiply; it was a warm and happy colour, it was the colour of sunlight, and it had made Billy think of you.
Hugging the blanket to your chest you thanked him before carefully placing it back in the bag.
âIâve got some time before I need to leave for work, if you want to hang out?â He asked as if he needed to, as if he thought there was any chance that you wouldnât want to stay there with him.
As he drank, you told him about your day and every little thing youâd seen in the Met. And he listened. It seemed like he was actually listening, hanging on your every word, like he cared, like he wasnât just indulging you and letting you run your mouth.
âMaybe next time I could take you?â He offered. âThey do night openings a few times a month.â
âIâd love that,â you answered without a moment's hesitation.
âReally?â
âOf course. I like spending time with you.â
He finished his drink and quickly put the glass down, licking his lips as he turned himself towards you.
âYou like spending time with me?â He repeated.Â
You couldnât tell if he was amused or confused. âYeah, youâre... different to the sort of people Iâm used to being around. I like talking to you.â
âJust talking to me?â He asked, a smirk starting to tug at his lips. You felt your face start to heat again as your gaze dropped to your lap. âStill so shy, so easy to embarrass,â he muttered, placing a hand on your bare knee, âbut I bet youâre already wet under this little skirt.â
Your breath caught and your thighs clenched together at the realisation that he was right.
You couldnât bring yourself to look until you realised he was moving. You watched, confused as he slipped onto the floor, his hands on your knees, urging your legs apart so he could sit between them. It wasnât until he started to slowly kiss your thigh that you realised what he was going to do. Your heart started to race, and Billy noticed.
âAre you okay?â He asked, his cold fingers tracing soothing patterns on your leg.
You nodded, swallowing the lump in your throat, cheeks burning with embarrassment. âIâve just... Iâve never...â
âItâs okay, hummingbird,â Billy reassured you, smiling softly. âJust relax and let me make you feel good.â
While you managed not to show it, those words almost broke you. He always seemed to care about you, about making sure you felt good, and that wasnât something you were ever sure youâd get used to.
Your cheeks burned hotter when he reached beneath your skirt and eased your panties down your legs, discarding them somewhere on the floor. But you didnât have time to dwell on it. He pulled you towards him, lifting your legs over his shoulder while continuing to trail kisses up your thighs. Up and up and up, until -
âRemember the rules,â he told you, gazing up at you from between your thighs, âand breathe.â
Until he mentioned it, you hadnât even realised that you were holding your breath. With a nod, you let out a slow breath, trying to steel yourself for this new experience. His cold fingers gently parted your folds and a shiver ran down your spine. You bit your lip, keeping your eyes focused on him until you finally felt it. His tongue slipped through your arousal, delicately at first and then with a little more pressure. You back arched and your hips pressed forwards, and you could have swore you felt Billyâs lips pull into a smirk against you.
He alternated between long, slow laps of his tongue and faster flicks, obviously taking note of your reactions. One moment he was focused on your clit, the next, you felt the tip of his tongue against your entrance. Your body shuddered, completely overwhelmed, and you almost lost your mind when you heard Billy groan.
âBilly -â you gasped, knowing that you werenât going to last long.
âNot yet,â he almost-growled from between your thighs.
Before you could even think to beg, his tongue was against you again. Your fingers slipped into his hair, needing something to hold on to as your thighs started to tremble. It felt like you were being devoured by his mouth, his lips and his greedy tongue making you feel sensations youâd never felt before. Soon enough, it felt like his grip on your thighs was the only thing keeping you from crushing his head - it was too much and not enough all at once, you desperately wanted the release of an orgasm but you didnât ever want him to stop.
âFuck-fuck-fuck...â you whimpered, barely holding back. âBilly, please...â
It almost seemed cruel when you felt his lips on your throbbing clit, gently sucking. Your back arched again, trying to press yourself closer but his strong grip kept you in place.Â
Your fingers tugged on his hair, twisting and pulling, earning another groan from Billy. Every muscle tensed and you felt like a spring coiled too tight, like you could snap at any moment. And, thankfully, Billy seemed to realise that.
âOkay, hummingbird, you can come,â he muttered, barely pulling his lips away from you.Â
One more flick of his tongue and you were done for, crying out as you came undone. All the while his tongue kept moving, lapping the wetness that spilled from you, and not pulling back until your thighs were violently shaking.
While you struggled to catch your breath, Billy lowered your legs and rested his chin on your thigh, grinning up at you.Â
âWhat are you smirking at?â You managed to ask, fighting back a smile of your own.
âI donât think Iâve ever heard you swear before.â
You bit your lip, your cheeks starting to warm again. âI think the situation called for it.â
That got a laugh from Billy.Â
âIâll take that as a compliment,â he said before getting himself off the floor and sitting beside you again. âDid you enjoy it?â
Of course, you couldnât answer. Once heâd asked the question you couldnât even look at him. All you could do was give the slightest little nod, suddenly acutely aware that your panties had ended up on the floor in front of the TV and, as much as you wanted to, you couldnât tear your eyes from them.
That is, until Billy placed a hand on your cheek, turning your face to his. For a few seconds he simply looked at you, almost seeming confused, before smiling again.
âWhat is it about you?â He asked quietly, his thumb softly caressing your cheek. âWhy canât I get enough?â
Before you could answer, heâd closed the distance between you, kissing you and sending you into a tailspin. How could he keep saying things like that, how could he keep making you feel so special, when he seemed so reluctant to - god, you didnât even know. You still didnât understand how this casual thing was supposed to work. The time you spent together left you feeling like there was something, a connection between you, but that wasnât what youâd agreed to. It was just supposed to be fun.
But, surely casual fun was supposed to lead to sex, right?
âThatâs not what I want to see when I kiss you,â he remarked, pulling back a little, leaving you even more confused until he clarified; âyouâre frowning.â
âI was just...â you fell into silence for a moment, not sure how to say it. âDo you want me, Billy?â
âDo I want you?â He repeated.
âYeah, I mean like -â
âOh, hummingbird, I know exactly what you mean,â he almost laughed, his hand still on your cheek. âIâm just not sure how you can ask me that after Iâve just been on my knees worshipping you.â
Not knowing how to respond to that, you kissed him, tasting the lingering traces of your arousal on his lips and tongue. You pressed closer and closer, until you felt an arm around your waist, pulling you onto his lap.
âI donât want to rush you,â he muttered against your lips.
âYouâre not,â you answered breathlessly, sinking back into his lips..Â
He pulled you closer, positioning you so you could feel the bulge of his erection against you. The feeling alone was enough to cause your hips to shudder and buck, still feeling sensitive from his tongue. Billy groaned, his lips pulling from yours and finding your neck. You barely noticed the buttons of your blouse being undone until he started to push it off your shoulders.
Trembling fingers started to pull open his shirt, hands exploring every inch of cold skin that you revealed, feeling the raised lines of scars beneath your touch. Billy squirmed when your hand trailed over his shoulder, his body pressing up against yours.
Your heart raced faster when you felt him unclasp your bra. You barely had time to finish removing it before his lips were on your breasts, kissing, licking and sucking. Every cold touch sent a jolt of pleasure right to your core and, before you knew it, you were gently rocking your hips against him.
âBilly,â you gasped as his lips closed over your nipple.
Desperately, you dropped your hands to his waist, fumbling with his belt then, when that was open you started on the fastenings of his pants.
A yelp escaped you when you felt his teeth on your nipple, not biting hard enough to break skin but more than enough to give you a shock. An eager growl sounded in the back of his throat as he moved to your other nipple. But his sudden roughness wasnât enough to stop you.
Despite his cold touch roaming your body, you felt hot, like you were on fire. Every deep breath you took was him; his cologne, his clean shirt, the products in his hair. You were intoxicated, drunk on Billy Russo. His fingertips pressed into your hips with a bruising force, but all you cared about was getting his zipper down and letting him possess you completely.
âMy little hummingbird,â he muttered in that low, dangerous tone as his lips moved back to yours. âIâm going to ruin you.â
He kissed you again, groaning into your mouth with an unbridled want that seemed to match your own. The words didnât shock you like they perhaps should have, they didnât worry you at all. You trusted him to stay in control.
Clumsy fingers tugged at his zipper and -
âShit!â You yelped as the zipper nicked your skin, pulling back from him, lifting your finger to your lips.
Billyâs whole body went rigid beneath you, eyes narrowing, dropping to the finger between your lips.
âItâs alright, I just -â you started and stopped just as quickly, looking at the small bleeding cut before looking at Billy.
His eyes seemed to get darker and you watched his throat bob uncomfortable as he tried to swallow. You squirmed as his grip tightened on your hips, holding you in place. The tiny cut bleeding in a way that only tiny cuts could.
âBilly...â you muttered softly, trying to soothe the monster inside of him.
Gingerly, you reached for him, tenderly running your fingers through his hair while you returned your bleeding finger to your mouth, trying to remove temptation.Â
His jaw tensed before he lunged forwards, pressing his lips to yours, his tongue forcing its way into your mouth, desperately seeking your finger and the tiniest drop of blood. You tried to push his face away, your hand on his jaw, your finger ending up between his lips.
âBilly, stop,â you pleaded, âplease.âÂ
Suddenly you found yourself hitting the floor as he stood and moved away from you. It took you a second or so to get over the initial shock before you grabbed your blouse and covered yourself. By the time you got to your feet, Billy was halfway to the elevator, buttoning his shirt as he went.
âIâm sorry.â The words left you in a desperate and broken tone, not knowing what you could possibly say to fix the situation or stop him from leaving.
Billy froze, taking an uncomfortable breath before turning back to you, confusion written all over his face. His eyes moved from you to the elevator and back again, weighing his options.
âWhy are you sorry?â He asked, a crack in his voice that made your heart ache. âYou did nothing wrong.â
âI was clumsy, and I pushed you, and I -â you sniffled, blinking as your eyes threatened tears.Â
âYou didnât do anything wrong,â he told you, voice firm and certain, âthatâs not what happened.â
âThen why are you leaving me?â
Billy was at a loss, staring as you tried not to break down in front of him. Your mind was racing over everything that had happened, over everything that you had done wrong - all the things that Billy seemed to want to ignore. Youâd always been clumsy, never careful enough. Your mother had always chastised you, telling you that you only did it for attention, telling you that you were needy, criticising you for always wanting to be the centre of attention.
It was easy to spiral into those negative thoughts, to see all your faults and failings, to feel broken and unloveable.Â
He stepped towards you, confusion softening into something more like concern.
âYou didnât do anything wrong,â he repeated, âI did. I almost lost control, I couldâve -â
âI shouldnâtâve complained, I -â
âDonât say that,â he snapped, his tone sharp enough to jolt you from your self-loathing. âI told you that you always have a choice here. Always. No one gets to hurt you, and you never have to go along with anything that scares you or makes you uncomfortable. Do you understand?â
On some level you did, you understood completely, you knew that he was right, but years of being made to feel like you were the problem were hard to overcome.
Reluctantly, he closed the distance between you, his hand finding your cheek, urging you to look at him.
âHow you feel matters, hummingbird. What you want matters,â he told you. âI donât want to scare you. Itâs me, I - thereâs something wrong with me, something I canât always control, and you deserve better than that. I donât want to do anything that youâre not a hundred percent certain about. I never want you to regret anything that we do together.â
It felt like your throat was closing up and your vision started to blur, it wasnât until the first sob shook your body that you realised you were crying. The idea that you had a choice, that you got to decide what you wanted, and that your feelings mattered - no one had let you have that before. His arms wrapped around you, pulling you tight against his chest.
âNo one gets to hurt you,â he told you again. âI wonât let anything happen to you. I promise Iâll keep you safe.â
Even from himself, though the words went unsaid.
He shushed you as you whimpered the word sorry again and held you tighter when you hid your face against his shoulder. Minutes passed, and Billy held you, not moving, not pulling away. Eventually you stilled, your breathing slowing and the sobs subsiding. But, still, Billy didnât move. His hold on you didnât loosen until you slowly pulled back.
Your head instantly dropped, the back of your hand trying to scrub the tear stains from your cheeks. One of his hands remained on you, resting gently on your shoulder.
âIâm sorry,â you muttered.
âWhat are you sorry for?âÂ
âI donât know,â you finally admitted.Â
âDo you want to talk about it?â
âDo you?â
The question hung awkwardly in the air between you, neither one of you wanting to answer it. It was more than obvious now that you both had baggage, you both had parts of yourself that you were desperate to keep hidden, but it was also becoming clear that you werenât going to be able to hide forever.
âI think weâll have to eventually,â Billy told you.
As much as you hated it, you knew he was right.Â
Silence lingered for a few seconds before you quietly confessed; âI feel safe with you.â
It felt important to tell him that, like everything else could come after. Despite his little lapses in control, you trusted him. He looked like he wanted to ask how you could feel that way after everything but, at the same time, it was clear that he didnât want to know.
âAre you... okay?â You asked after a moment of silence.
âItâs complicated,â he said and, for a second, it seemed like he was going to leave it at that. âI just - when youâre a vampire, everything is so loud. Everything feels like itâs too much. It makes you want so much. Sometimes I feel like I canât control it.â
You stomach knotted as you watched him struggle, the jagged edge to his tone furthering something heâd already let slip days ago; he didnât want to be like that. He didnât want to be a vampire.
âI feel like that too, sometimes,â you offered softly. âNot exactly the same but - my mom always used to tell me that no one likes emotional women. Whenever Iâd get upset, sheâd tell me I was being hysterical or call me an attention seeker. So I started holding it all in. I wouldnât complain or get upset, Iâd just pretend I was fine, and it made me feel like I was going to burst...â
Without warning, he pulled you into another hug, and you let him, your face pressing back into the damp spot youâd left on his shoulder.
âIâm sorry,â he muttered, sounding almost guilty, like he thought he was somehow to blame. âYou donât have to hold it in with me, you donât have to pretend or go along with anything that you donât want.â
âI do want this though,â you confessed, stopping short of telling Billy that you wanted him, that you were starting to feel something for him. It had only been a few weeks but, already, you felt a connection to him, something you didnât want to give up.Â
He seemed torn, almost like he wanted to cut his losses and end things now, and you werenât sure how you were going to make it through the rest of the year if you had to go back to how things had been at the start. That is, if he even wanted to keep you around. Technically, because of him, youâd broken your contract.
âYou need to promise me something; if youâre ever not comfortable, youâll tell me to stop, and if I ever scare you, youâll tell me,â he told you in a firm and uncompromising tone.
âI promise, but -â you hesitated, not sure if heâd appreciate your condition, â- but you have to tell me when youâre not feeling well.â
Billy nodded and you sank forward into his arms again, holding him tight for a little while longer until he finally had to get ready and leave for work. And, of course, you felt terrible that he had to go and change out of his crease, tear-stained shirt before he went. He left with the promise of spending time with you tomorrow.
CHAPTER EIGHT
End Note : The Marvel name drops are mostly just easter eggs (and because I HATE coming up with names for side characters. I feel like a lot went on in this chapter but I don't actually have a lot to say about it. I'm just slowly piling on the mystery and angst.
Anyway! Thanks for reading! I've really loved all your comments and questions on this series. Have a great weekend!!
Let me know if you'd like to be tagged in future chapters! If tagging doesn't work for some reason (aka Tumblr being dumb) I post most Fridays around 7:30 gmt. (I think I've found a way to get tagging to work properly again, please let me know if it doesn't tag you.)

hi I love your blog we have very much the same opinions in everything except klamille is my favourite klaus ship and klaurora is second
I have been trying to enjoying klaus fics or any tvdu fics on wattpad but every thing I have read so far doenst show the characters accurately which is very annoying
I was hoping and want to request if you could give me some recommendations on fics on wattpad that are good. (Mainly klaus but any love interest would be good)
could you please give a short summary/review so far of any recommendation you give so I donât waste time starting one only to not like ir
sorry if I am sounding rude English is not my first language but I can read it fully thank I you very much
Don't worry, you're not sounding rude at all, if anything you actually sound really sweet. I'm glad we share some opinions and I'm really honored you came to me for some suggestions.
I haven't read long fanfictions in a while outside works in ao3, I left Wattpad a few time ago but I'll still try my best, tho I'm not very good at giving summaries. Fair warning these are mainly fanfics I've read in Archive of Our Own, not Wattpad, but I hope it's not a problem. If it annoys you, send me an ask and I'll give you some Wattpad recommendations!
Patisserie (ao3, poly Mikaelson siblings x original female character, no incest) by @wickedlyemma:

Summary:
I think we've all read those kind of tvdu fanfics where the main character is a teenager, usually related to the Gilbert or the Forbes, still in high school and who suddenly stops trying to make a life for herself just because she gets dragged into the supernatural world. Well, Patisserie is the opposite of that. For once, the main character isn't a teen but an adult around her twenties, who works at a bakery and is completely unaware of the supernatural world until Klaus decides to change that.
The slow burn is is truly worthy of a chef's kiss, the way the author describes and writes the Mikaelson is just so on point it hurts. Their family dynamic is so entertaining to watch, but it's as fucked up as it is in the show, which it's something not many authors can accomplish. The way they behave around the main character, a simple human, it's so amusing because they truly know nothing despite their age and she's just so easy to relate to, because for once the oc is not ridiculously overpowered.
The way we perceive the Mikaelson and the vampire world from a human pov is truly interesting, how she copes with all of it and eventually learns to love all of them individually while being aware of the danger is so well done. Kol and her, as well as her relationship with Klaus, are particularly interesting to read, especially considering how they all behaved around her at the beginning and especially because both of them are the most dangerous members of their family. They are all selfish creatures, and I love how it shows the more their relationships with her develop.

Summary;
You know those fanfics who fix (almost) everything problematic in canon? Apotheosis does exactly that. In this story, Klaus isn't a complete irredeemable character for once, but he also isn't half as bad as his canon version, and due to the oc being a werewolf, this fanfic does expand on his werewolf side a little more than The Vampire Diaries or The Originals ever did. His family and him actually have a healthy bond, and Finn gets the recognition he deserves for once.
The story is set in season three of TVD, exactly when Klaus and Stefan are trying to make hybrids for his pack, and in a ironic plot twist, Klaus decides to take you with him when you're still a werewolf after you say you're not worthy to be a hybrid, at least not yet.
Her devotion to him is completely endearing and I absolutely love how Klaus actually cares for his pack, especially because they're all canonical characters who were killed way too quickly. Her relationships with the members of their pack are so well written, and this fanfic it's the perfect mix of humour and seriousness. It has a ongoing sequel, which I just adore. I warn you though, all the characters have several differences from their canon versions.
Twisted Obsession (fanfiction.net, Klaus x original female character) by rocket-queen98;
Stats: Originals, M, English, Romance & Angst, chapters: 16, words: 59k+, favs: 1k+, follows: 1k+, updated: May 6, 2023 published: Aug 13, 2016, [Klaus M., OC] Elijah M., Hope M.
Summary;
Lola is one of the most adorable mc I've read. She is human and around nineteen, if I remember correctly, and just a sweet girl and adorable. She's introduced into the supernatural world thanks to baby Hope, who is just the cutest, due to her needing a mother figure now that Hayley wasn't present in her life thanks to the curse placed on her.
Her relationship with Hope is my favorite part of the whole fanfic. She doesn't suddenly turn into her mother, she doesn't intend to either, but rather becomes her best friend and Klaus and her develop a bond thanks to this. The way father and daughter interact is so heartwarming too, the subtle hints of them being werewolves, and seeing a main character having a good relationship with her father for once is a good turn, especially in tvd fanfics.
It's clear Klaus and Lola have something going on, even if they won't admit out loud, but for some reason the people around them give the impression they don't actually want them to date. There is implications something more fucked up than usual is going on with Klaus and his relationships, and I'm pretty sure him and Cami were a thing in this fic too. Surprisingly, Hayley and Cami aren't turned into absolute bitches, but there is Jackson bashing though.
The Girl in the Forest (fanfiction.net, Klaus x original female character) by noblecrescent;
Stats: Originals, T, English, Mystery & Romance, chapters: 30, words: 311k+, favs: 232, follows: 176, updated: Feb 19, 2017 published: Jan 23, 2016, [Klaus M., OC] [Elijah M., Camille O'Connell]
Summary;
This fanfic is a tetralogy of books set in The Originals, I read those fanfics a while ago so forgive me for any mistake. Maleny is a witch who was cursed, if I remember correctly, and was constantly body-jumping every short time.
In one of her lives, she met Klaus and they fell in love, but she died, if I'm not wrong, and they end up meeting again in New Orleans time later where he has a child on the way and a kingdom to conquer.
I can't remember a lot more without giving you spoilers, but it's worth checking it out!
Now, I'll give no more summaries because I honestly don't remember a lot of the next fanfics, but it's your choice if you want to read them;
A Veil Between Love and Hate (fanfiction.net, Klaus x original female character) by MandalorianHybrid;

Summary; Another five books set in The Vampire Diaries, with a story that eventually moves to The Originals.
Allure (wattpad, Klaus x oc x Stefan) by @viavolterra;
Stats: 575k Readings, 20,5k Votes, 34 Chapters
Summary;
I just could not not recommend this fanfic. Mia comes to Mystic Falls to seek revenge after Damon kills her best friend Lexi, but she of course gets dragged by the problems in that little town.
The thing I like the most about Via's story is how there is no clichĂŠ: no bashing towards Tyler or Elena, Mia actually befriends them, Bonnie gets the recognition and love she deserves, Klaus doesn't suddenly turn into a different person just because he loves the oc, he continues to be a piece of shit, and how sweet and empathetic she is, not like those reused badass mc who are just rude.
I would recommend some more, but it's kinda hard to find fanfics with a good Klaus depiction. I'm pretty sure I left out a lot of amazing fanfics, though.

Note
I have to be honest, I am a tad anxious about how the show will be handling Akasha and the casting for Akasha, Maharet, and Mekare.
I'm sure the show will cast BIPOC actresses for those 3 characters, since they are actually BIPOC in the books with Akasha being from Uruk, which is modern day Iraq, and Maharet and Mekare being Palestinian (I believe they're from Palestine?).
However, I have worries, because while so many people want a Black actress (I would still love this!) for Akasha because we all remember Aaliyah's iconic performance; I honestly don't think the people saying that know what she actually did in the books, because the QotD movie wasn't very book accurate at all. And now we're getting the books adapted and that means they might show us the things Akasha did in the book, which were horrific. Since the show has allowed the vampires to be able to have sex unlike in the books, we might see (or have it mentioned, at least) that Akasha sexually assaults Lestat and does this repeatedly. And we'll learn that Akasha had Maharet and Mekare sexually assaulted. Akasha massacres people and literally commits mass murder. And I really don't think that a lot of the people excited to see her know this, because she is undoubtedly the most evil character in the books. Like evil evil.
And the optics of having the most evil character be killed by Mekare might not look so good, depending on who they cast.
I really think they should try and cast actresses that are both Black and SWANA (Southwest Asian and North African) for all 3 characters. That way fans of Akasha from the QotD movie will be happy, while also making them SWANA would make book fans happy and finally give us SWANA representation, especially since all 3 are canonically SWANA (Iraqi and Palestinian. Please correct me if I'm incorrect about Mekare and Maharet's origins).
I just think the optics of having the most evil character (Akasha) be Black while Mekare/Maharet are not or having Akasha be SWANA and Mekare/Maharet are not would not look so great.
I really respect your opinion and wanted your thoughts on this. I hope the show walks this line carefully.
Yeah, the "optics" of their casting choices as you put it... will be difficult no matter what they'll do.
People have that image of Akasha in their head that Aaliyah made iconic, but the QotD movie literally skirted all the problematic stuff (or almost all of it).
The show... this show... won't.
They also already added sexual assault to the canon list of it (of which there is quite a lot in the Chronicles).
I'm not sure I'd call Akasha evil per se... but she is a cruel and quite brutal ruler - I do hope the show gives us flashbacks not only to the beginnings with Mekare, Maharet and Khayman, but that they also add the Blood Wars, the First Brood going against the Queen's army. But it will indeed be heavy if they choose to add the "ordered rape" - but then, how could they not, at least if they want to bring in the "Great Family".
And yes, Akasha threatens and abuses Lestat, too, and this show won't shy away from that either.
*sighs* It's going to grate, no matter what they do.
If they do not cast a black actress, people will complain, and if they do, people will likely cheer at first, only to then be horrified when the proverbial canon story shit hits the fan, to put it a bit glibly.
Casting a mixed representation might be the way to go, yes, but even then... I fear there will be complaints no matter what. đ
I don't have a solution for this, I have to say, and I think casting Akasha (and Khayman and Maharet and Mekare) in this show might be one of the most daunting tasks for Rolin & co ... and not because there are no great actresses to fill Aaliyah's shoes, but because of the problems coming with it through the story, especially maybe through that indeed canon origin of Mekare and Maharet being from the region of today's Palestine - especially given our current... events :/

What Being a Zutara Shipper Means for ME!! (not YOU...necessarily)
Where is this idea that Zutara shippers are monolith coming from? I'm soooo bored with people thinking that there's any sort of requirement to shipping this couple. A lot of Zutara shippers ADORE Aang and Mai. I'd go as far as to say most like at least one of them. And that's cool. That's cool...
Hating Aang and Mai is fun, though. They are problematic in different, but oddly similar ways. Picking that apart is a completely valid way to enjoy the fandom. It's not required. No one should have to hate them to enjoy Zutara, but if you do hate them, hate them as loud as you want. They are terrible characters. They have abusive tendencies. Aang, as a character, absolutely perpetuates the Nice Guy myth that as long as you're persistent enough and not a Chan, eventually the girl who's never shown any interest in you will fall for you. Because you're "tH3 r3@L H3r0OOooO!" It doesn't matter that you've violated your crush's consent. Twice. Or that you go on to flirt with anti-miscegenation on a whim and only don't go through with it because it would effect you personally. No biggie!
I know it's a bit harder to hate on Mai. After all, Zuko did have the audacity to talk to her, his girlfriend about his feelings. He was SO out of line for that. How DARE he want support from her? Doesn't he know emotions and human connection are like garlic to emotional vampires like Mai??? Still, hating Mai is fun, so I'll do it anyway. I know it's so quirky, edgy goth of her to threaten him with death if he ever broke up with her again and then go on to not let him know her own father is trying to assassinate him, but I'm not a fan. Sorry đ¤ˇđžââď¸
You know what, though? I found my people, as few as we may be. And I did it without telling people how they should or shouldn't feel about any characters. It's a good thing I figured out how tagging and blocking works. đ

Hell Tower Lore (Demons: classes and stages)
Ah, Hell... The place of damnation par excellence, full of people that didn't make the nicest choices when they were alive and/or have a very bad behaviour, ruled by 7 monsters that represents the famous 7 deadly sins and the worst of humanity.
Demons are creatures with animal-like behaviours that can be really dangerous depending on what kind of personality they have and on the powers that reflects the sin they represent, but can be defeated if exposed to the sun and they'll become a pile of dust. Pretty much like vampires.
When a person ends up in hell they either become an Imp or a Hell Animal:
Imps can be recognised by their "almost human" look: they have pointy ears, claws, fur, a long tail and horns (+ an extra feature that differs for each demon depending on what sin they represent), their way of acting is similar to cats. They're the weakest kind of Demons, people who in their earthly lives did some light yet bad things, like hurting someone else once (verbally or physically) or having done some controversial actions without redeeming themselves... In short, overall people that may seem okay but revealed to be problematic to have around. They can either transform into Angels when they get redeemed with the help of an Archangel, or in a Hell Animal if their behaviour/mindset gets worse during their stay in Hell.
Hell Animals are anthropomorphic creatures that have less of a human aspect and more of an, well, animal. They're people who, in their earthly lives, either hurt/abused someone else multiple times, contributed to a grave crime/genocide, have a very messed up mentality or somehow did all of the above. They're generally criminals who are better to avoid, they might even start a deadly fight if you accidentally bump into them. Although they can be very hotheaded and hard to reason with, they can become better and transform into an Imp... But most times these people can become so rotten that they spiral even deeper into their sin, to the point they transform into horrid beasts.
Hell Beasts are the final stage of Demons, they're monsters as big as houses and they're recognised as the most dangerous and mortal creatures in creation. On the contrary of the previous stages, the Beasts aren't capable of going back or redeeming, they've lost the last piece of humanity they had and become violent beings with their first thought in mind being attacking and/or eat anything they see. They live in the forest at the center of Hell, near to the castle where the 7 Deadly Sins live and away from the Imps and Hell Animal's city so that they don't end up mauled.
Demons are categorised in 7 classes and they all have different powers as I'll show here.
(â ď¸CW for suggestive pose and sexual themes in the Lust section, +16â ď¸)
Wrath
The most destructive kind, they have super strength and high durability, their claws are capable of cutting through hard metals. They are recognizable by their more pumped arm muscles, red fur and the tip of their tail resembling a lightened fuse of a bomb.

Imp: they might be small but still capable of doing some damage if provoked. When angry they might act like cats. It's kinda adorable tho
Animal: they look like anthropomorphic bulls. They're more easy to make them angry and can defeat anyone by simply flicking the opponent.
Beast: bull-like monsters with multiple legs. They spend most of their time giving headbutts on the tree trunks of the forest or attacking other beasts/anyone who meets their eyesight.
Pride
Let's be fair, they're the hardest ones to bear. This kind of Demons believe they're the best and most powerful ones, although they don't really don't have anything spectacular aside from being able to run as fast as a cheetah. They are recognizable by their more pumped leg muscles, orange fur and the tip of their tail resembling an arrow.

Imp: they don't have many peculiarities, you can see them strut all the time.
Animal: they look like anthropomorphic fishes. Now they're both quick both on land AND water, their teeth are more sharp and their fur is constantly wet.
Beast: piranha looking creatures with limbs to walk on land. They are so quick that you can barely follow them with your eyes. It only takes a moment of distraction to find out one second later that one of your limbs is missing and that it's in the monster's jaws.
Greed
The most hated ones in Hell. With their increased stealth abilities and ability to fly these bastards can be excellent thieves and scammers, giving Hell many economical problems because of it. They are recognizable by their bird wings, yellow fur and the tip of their tail resembling a claw.

Imp: they spend most of their time in the streets, always finding new victims to snatch their wallets or anything expensive looking.
Animal: they're half Imps and half ravens. You can see them soaring in the skies of Hell, often straight up nosediving towards the localised objective. 60% of the time they also accidentally grab the person they're stealing from because of how big their claws are.
Beast: raven-looking monsters with many claws, they live hidden in the bushes of the forest. If you have the misfortune to get caught by one of them you won't be able to get freed by their grasp, as their claws are as strong as the thickest metal around.
Envy
These guys have amplified senses, capable of seeing objects and hearing even the smallest whisper from great distances. It might seem like a pretty weak power at first, but used well it can be helpful in battles to anticipate the enemy's moves. Plus these Demons often get paid to stalk others by request. They are recognizable by their fly wings, green fur and their tail resembling a magnifying glass.

Imp: they live their lives normally with the exception that most of them give a menacing look to anyone they cross. Other times you can see them angrily mumbling with themselves as they listen to a conversation from the other side of the city.
Animal: they look like insects with humanoid limbs. These guys are pretty much known for giving the coldest insults to others, preferring to obsess over others's business than taking care of themselves.
Beast: fly-looking creatures with multiple eyes all over their bodies. It's impossible to catch or even touch them, as they see and hear everything around them. They're as fast as Pride Imps.
Sloth
The most innocuous ones, more or less. Their tail contains a special poison that can paralyse anyone for half an hour, but they don't use it much. They don't even trim their fur, making them look like giant walking hairballs. They are recognizable by their huge blue fur and the tip of their tail looking like a scorpion one.

Imp: it's rare to see one outside of their homes or of the Hell's Spa, and it's even rarer to see one doing something relevant like... I dunno, paying taxes or something.
Animal: they look like anthropomorphic llamas. They smell like rotten cheese and their breath is so bad that no one can describe what it smells like without going in a coma.
Beast: a mix of llama and goats creatures. They don't do anything. They just lay down on the grass field of the forest and do nothing. Their fur can be trimmed, although with much difficulty, and used as pillows, sheets and more, but it's rare to get this type of fur because of how these Beasts are such easy targets for the other ones to eat.
Gluttony
The tail of Gluttony Demons produces a special sweet liquid that can make you feel dizzy and see hallucinations when swallowed (think of it like LSD but in liquid form). Because of that they're often abducted by greedy people to squirt all of the juice from the tail and sell it to others, commonly known as "Demon Juice". They are recognizable by their bat wings (I forgot to draw that in the Imp below, whoops) purple fur and the tip of their tail resembling a fruit-looking sphere.

Imp: some of them have dark circles under their eyes and a little scruffy appearance. Usually they carry around a cup so that they can drink their "Demon Juice" whenever and wherever they want... Or just directly put the tail in their mouth and munch it.
Animal: they have some characteristics of a bat, making them look like vampires. They have an even more scruffy look, most of the Gluttony Animals have their tails ruined and shriveled up due to the gland that produces that liquid being damaged by squeezing continuously the tail. Because of this, half of them assault or manipulate other Gluttony Demons to desperately drink their Demon Juice and make them feel "good" again.
Beast: bat-like monsters. They are always hungry, always in search of anything to eat, always screeching loudly and desperately. They're just as dangerous as Wrath Beasts, capable of sucking out the blood of a being as big as them in less than a half a minute. The 7 Deadly Sins, taking turns every day, have the job to feed these Beasts in particular, so that they don't eat most of the other Beasts or, in the worst case, that they don't exit the forest and add more havoc than there already was in Hell.
(â ď¸LAST WARNING, ALTHOUGH IT'S NOT EXPLICIT, THE SECTION BELOW CONTAINS MENTIONS OF PROSTITUTION AND SEXUAL ACTIVITIESâ ď¸)
Lust
Most of these demons live in wealth (gee, I wonder why) yet they're also really feared by others because of their ability to control anyone's mind by simply listening to their voices. They are recognizable by often wearing revealing clothes, having pink fur and the tip of their tail resembling a heart.

Imp: they can be really nice companions/friends with benefits, especially if you want some nice... Uhm... Services. They might be cheaper than the Lust Animals, but their quality is just as high, especially with their long slimy tongues.
Animal: they're viper-like creatures with additional heads as hands, to not be confused with Hell Snakes. They're sneaky and some even cruel with others, they get paid even more than Imps by people with... Questionable tastes, to say the least.
Beast: they're three headed snake monsters. Even by just looking at one of their 6 eyes you'll enter in a trance state and be the next appetizer of this ravenous and slimy creature.

On Alucard and Maria
Are there actually fans advocating for Alucard to be written as Mariaâs father figure in the new season of Nocturne? Like that would be a good thing and not infinitely creepier? I donât think theyâve thought this through.
Alucard is the single most popular character in the franchise. Heâs also probably the most shipped character. And yet he has only had one canon love interest in the decades since heâs existed. Itâs Maria. And youâre telling me that you think that because heâs 300+ and sheâs 17-18 when they started living together in the games, that it would be grooming. However, somehow him inserting himself into her life at age 16 when sheâs just lost both her parents wouldnât come off like grooming!?
Does this man look like he should be picking up random children!? Heâs literally terrified of his own cursed blood. Maybe LISTEN TO HIM.
Iâm convinced fandoms have forgotten what that word means. Grooming has specific features. It doesnât just mean âolder guy and younger girl.â A relationship with an age gap or an uneven power dynamic can be exploitative or abusive without being a case of grooming. Grooming specifically refers to the process of forming a relationship with a child with the intention of leveraging that relationship and trust to train and prepare (aka brainwash) your victim for the harmful activities the groomer wants to normalize. The relationship Alucard and Maria have in the games is in no way grooming. You know what would be grooming though?
Coming into a 16 year oldâs life when sheâs vulnerable, traumatized, and recently orphaned only to insinuate yourself as a new father figure. This is so highly inappropriate and a huge red flag. Consider what youâre actually asking for here. These characters do not exist in a a vacuum. They have a long history together as each otherâs only canon love interests. You cannot fully extract them from the games, art, interviews, audio dramas, animations, and more where theyâre depicted as a couple. There are decades of this precedent and you are asking Netflix to knowingly take the characters with an established romantic dynamic that the audience is already primed to see as romantic and instead portray their meeting as him trying to be her new daddy?

âOh look! Alucard and his⌠daughter? Yikes.â This is an official advertisement btw.
THAT is grooming! Think about the optics of this! It would be abysmal! No it would NOT fix the problem of their age gap to make him act like a groomer and get in good with her as a dad. You just cannot completely extract them from the legacy of their relationship in the source materials. It will be incredibly creepy and textbook grooming if you get your way.
Is this really what you want to associate with an âadoptive father Alucardâ? Because the art we create doesnât exist in a vacuum. All the old contentâofficial and fanmadeâis still going to exist.
What is so objectionable about the original dynamic anyway? Itâs a pretty fun subversion of the tired and problematic vampire trope of âvampire man stalks teen girl and coerces her into being hisâ. Instead in their original relationship, Maria is the one who pursues Alucard! Itâs the young woman who takes initiative and is given the agency to go after what she wants. She courts and woos him. Thatâs part of the fun!
Yes, Alucard is 300+. Heâs also a fictional creature that doesnât actually exist IRL and stays eternally young. There are no actual people who will ever have his problem of staying 20 forever so itâs rather silly to say he canât date any humans because of course he will have an age gap with any of them.
The only real problem I have seen people bring up is Mariaâs age, but from what I can tell, the showâs already fixed this. Check it out.
In The Games
Rondo of Blood: Maria is 12. She and Alucard do not meet. Richter is a brother-figure and not romantic.
There is then a 5 year time skip.
Symphony of the Night: Maria is 17. She and Alucard meet to save Richter. At the end, Alucard says his goodbyes and intends to return to a life of solitude. Maria goes after him because she has developed feelings for him and doesnât want him to suffer a life alone.
Maria is given agency to pursue what she wants and prove herself even against Alucardâs resistance and hesitance to let another person into his life.

They spend a year together before we get the audio drama.
Nocturne of Remembrance: Maria continues to try to get close to Alucard. They end up saving each otherâs lives and in the end he finally confesses his romantic feelings for her. She is an adult and perfectly able to make her own choices. She chose him. He admits he returns her feelings.
How fandom can look at a story about a young woman subverting the trope and chasing the vampire to get what she wantsâbasically an anti-Bella Swanâand still find a way to disempower her just so they can pearl clutch? I couldnât tell you.
So now letâs look at what the show did.
In The Show
Nocturne S1: Maria is 16. Sheâs been aged up from 12, probably to give her a more active and believable role. But this also means sheâs within a normal age to start feeling attraction and expressing her wants. Within her society, sheâs even considered of marriageable age. However we are spared the discomfort of our modern values clashing with her contemporaneous ones because Maria in this season isnât interested in romance. Sheâs interested in revolution, equality, justice. Theyâve portrayed her with so much love and strength. There is no indication theyâd betray her by writing her as the child victim of a male suitor. In fact she only meets Alucard in the final few seconds of the season and the two do not even speak a single word to one another.

Now letâs remember the games had a five year time skip. The show only needs two years to get Maria to the adult age of 18, but assuming the follow through with the timeline and go for the full five?
Maria will be 21.
21.

Fan concept for adult Maria. Credit:@esp-art
Are you telling me a 21 year old woman is not old or mature enough to make her own decisions? How is this not a total infantilization of women? Do you think a 21 year old badass vampire hunter needs protection from the ace depressed dhampir boy who just wants to sleep and has in no way tried to pursue her until after she expressed consistent and persistent interest in him?
It is not âgroomingâ to meet someone when they were younger and then meet them again years later as an adult. Thatâs a thing that happens! In real life! Adults can still make decisions for themselves! It is only grooming if Alucard behaved in a way that would manipulate teen Maria and put her under his control and authority before she can consent. There is no indication that Alucard in the show is going to do this. And yet the fandom is basically demanding it by saying he should make her âhis baby girlâ?
And what of Mariaâs feelings in all this? She just lost her mother and was betrayed by her father shortly after discovering he even existed. She has lived her whole life without a father. She is in no desperate need of a new one. And if she does need a family member, she already has one! Richter is 19 and is her trusted adoptive brother. Why wouldnât she go to him over a total stranger she just met and who is half vampire - literally a predator creature that feeds on humans!?

Yeah, hi, Richter Belmont still exists. He and Maria consider each other family. Why would you want her relying on a strange man she just met as a âfather figureâ rather than her trusted and loving brother?
Have none of you even considered how Maria would feel if Alucard even tried to fill the paternal role? Heâd have to force it on her through manipulation and coercion. No way she would want to view him that way. Especially considering she is 16 and likely to be as attracted to the sparkly 20 year old looking sculpted marble beauty as anyone else!

Donât mind the beautiful eternally young man who looks made of pure porcelain and light. No teen girl has ever been attracted to this, right? No way it could be exploitative and creepy for him to present himself as her new daddy, giving himself authority and influence over her as his child to mold as he wishes, right? Oh yeah, this is MUCH better than Maria pursuing him of her own volition once she becomes an adult, right guys?
We are truly in the stupidest dark timeline.
Frankly, I donât care if Netflix has them get together or not. They would work just fine as friends too. I just sure as hell hope theyâll ignore the fans clamoring for a creepy daddy/daughter dynamic. Dressing it up as âconcernâ wonât hide that for some itâs a fetish, and for others theyâre just useful idiots who havenât thought it through.
I implore you to think it through.
