⭒is it a dream or is it all in the past, i just thought i'd ask"⭒ Arcane characters and comfort {fem reader}
cast ✧ Vi, Ekko, Jayce, Viktor, Mel
cw☞ slightly pervy jayce, mentions of period sex, a bunch of fluff, that's about it
♞Vi♞
♞Vi's comfort is both physical and verbal. Vi is constantly in awe of you, she can't fathom the idea of you thinking you're less than, too dumb, not pretty enough, not worthy enough. She is also very aware. She's a watcher and a listener. She is very good at getting to the root of the rot, she knows that it's not just this one occurrence, it's a reaction caused by something deeper within you. I feel like Vi is much more emotionally intelligent than a lot of people give her credit for, it's just not knowing how to carry it out.
♞I feel like sometimes, she wouldn't get frustrated, but it would take a bit of a toll on her when you aren't as perceptive as she is. Sometimes it takes a lot of walking through the process to get you to understand what she's telling you. She is more than willing and does praise you until she's blue in the face, but she realizes that sometimes words from an outside source can't fix anything if you don't believe it yourself.
♞This applies to larger problems, but Vi would also be good on occasions if you were simply having a bad day. As someone who's had a bad life, she knows how you feel. You want to be left alone for a bit? She completely understands. You just want a hug? She is there with open arms and immediately chides you the second you try to apologize for getting snot on her jacket.
♞Speaking of which, Vi hugs are one of the most comforting hugs you can ever receive. She's just so warm and big and you are completely surrounded by her as she cradles your head into your chest and hums in your ear. She just has such a calming voice; her presence itself is comforting. I also think she would shed a few tears herself when comforting you. It heals the part of her that couldn't save Powder. She holds a lot of guilt about that, so much so that her comfort to you feels rehearsed, like she's been repeating those reassurances for years.
♞As much as you need comforting, Vi would need her fair share too. She never let go of that big sister/leader persona, she thinks her problems are too small compared to the world around her. She tries to fix her problems with logic to push down her feelings and most definitely is someone who thinks that letting those big feelings out is unproductive. This being said, you don't get a chance to comfort Vi until it becomes too much for even her to handle and she randomly breaks down.
♞Comfort is very foreign to her. The last time she received it consistently and healthily was from Vander and then her life went to shit, and she was thrown in prison for like a decade. Stillwater is not a nurturing environment, Zaun certainly wasn't either, even the comfort she received from Vander was more akin to tough love rather than something softer. She can be soft with you, but she finds it hard to accept it herself. It's a battle for her to just be in your arms and allow you to tell her its ok. She knows it'll be okay because she's gonna fight like hell to make sure it's ok. She hates feeling out of control. She's not used to someone trying to fix things for her; she's not used to someone being there for her.
♞She has a lot of tears to get out. Vi has built high walls of anger, but below that is a chasm of sorrow. When she finally breaks down, it feels like an endless stream of tears until she physically cannot cry anymore and is forced to heave in your arms until she either falls asleep or sits in silence, empty. It's very overwhelming, but she can't deny that when she can catch her breath, she feels brand new.
★Ekko★
★Ekko may not be a doctor, but he's a chef which makes the experience more than bearable. The second he sees your complexion get sickly, your wincing every time you move, and your coughs getting more and more phlegmy, he is immediately freaking out. He's running to get a thermometer, he's rifling through the medicine cabinet for whatever the canon equivalent of NyQuil is, he has a trash can set by the bedside in case you begin to feel nauseous.
★Despite his preparedness, I don't think Ekko is great at being sick or being around the sick. It feels like an utter waste of time, waiting around in the house for the illness to pass. Sickness is one of those issues you can't be active in fighting, the best action is to rest and sweat it out, and he is so antsy. It's a lot better if you're sick, you can't lie to him and try to pretend you're well when you aren't. Even if you try and fight him on it, you don't make it very far. Your achy joints keep you up at night, making you completely exhausted throughout the day. Your headache is so debilitating you have spots in your vision. Your throat is so sore, it physically pains you to argue with him about how you're totally not sick and he's being a complete mother hen.
★No; no matter how hard you protest, you are absolutely bed bound as Ekko works warm soup down your gullet even when you can't stomach it yourself but the rational part of you knows it'll make you feel better. The warm green tea he brings you has some tonic dissolved into it; the medicinal taste covered by a few tablespoons of sugar to avoid the bitter bite. He doesn't even flinch when you cough or sneeze into yet another tissue which is soon to be added to the growing pile in the trash. He only wraps you tighter, so you sweat out your fever faster while softly rubbing your aching shoulders. The thought of getting sick does cross his mind, but he's more preoccupied with his poor girl.
★A surprise to no one, Ekko gets sick right after you do, though he is far less compliant. He knows that you see right through his bullshit excuses. Babe, I don't have a fever, I always run hot. What do you mean I have a bad cough? I've just been clearing my throat. I don't get sick; I have too good of an immune system. I never been sick a day in my life. Even worse, he truly believes it himself. In truth, Ekko isn't someone who gets sick often, it's usually one bad bug every year or so. When he does get sick, it usually lasts a few weeks, the first being very mild and then eventually whittling him down to a bed-bound state.
★His bug only worsens the annoyance he feels when sick, you're almost glad when he loses the energy to argue back when you tell him to lie down. When Ekko's sick, it feels more like date nights than a hospital trip. Ekko can't stand silence or boredom which means a movie is playing for as long as he's bed bound. Aside from his mucous infested coughs, his constant shuddering through multiple layers of blankets, and a bowl of soup instead of popcorn; you could barely tell that this wasn't a movie date.
★If there is one thing Ekko enjoys about being sick, it's being taken care of. After he swallows his pride and that disgusting cough medicine, he can appreciate being doted on. Even though he's sick, he'll use a fake yawn as an excuse to wrap his arm around you and ask do you come 'round here often? His joking attitude is usually a good sign that his weeks in hell have finally passed and the light at the end of the tunnel (post sickness kisses) are finally on the table.
❂Jayce ❂
❂Someone once made a joke that Jayce would be the type to make a post on twitter like "I just found out about how bad period pain is. Can't believe our beautiful women go through that every month. If only I could go through periods for them, so they no longer have to suffer (I'm 6'7 btw)" and, well...yes! On a more serious note, I don't think he'd be the type to be super on top of it. He's too busy to have something like a calendar tracking it, though when the time comes, he's very quick to act. While he may be unprepared, he's not incompetent.
❂As soon as you tell him you started, he switches the light bed sheets to darker ones. All he needs is a list of your needs, your preference on pads or tampons or menstrual cups, if you wear them, what size pad you need, heating pads, pain meds, anything and everything you may need is currently being bought. He also isn't the type to be ashamed to go to the register with it, he truly does not think it's a big deal and is confused at any sort of weird stares he gets.
❂He is also over cautious. The second you look like a little woozy, he's right by your side asking if you need to sit down. He's standing around the bathroom while you shower genuinely scared you might pass out due to the amount of blood loss. I don't think he's squeamish around blood, but I do think he'd constantly worry that it's too much. Like how are you still alive after bleeding that much for like a week straight 12 times a year?! He thinks the female body is a scientific wonder.
❂He's also great when it comes to the emotional component. The second your hormones get out of whack, and you start to think too hard about your bloating or ragged you look or how weak you feel, he's right there with a large warm hand on your tummy telling you that you are being ridiculous. His very scientific brain comes in handy, something about his calming voice telling you exactly what your body is doing sounds enough like a documentary to put you to sleep.
❂If you work in the lab with him, he offers to let you skip work for the week, being completely surprised if you insist on still coming in. He does his best to accommodate you, going the extra mile to pack your lunch and making you sure you eat it, ensuring that you're staying on top of your water, he brings pain killers with him in case your cramps get too bad. You and Viktor roll your eyes a bit at his antics. You try to assure him you've had a period for years at this point and it's really not that big of a deal, but he insists on it anyway. All he knows is that you're in pain and he doesn't like that.
❂Now, pre-apocalypse Jayce does not do period sex. You're already hurting, and he while he read that sex can help with cramps, he also knows you're super sensitive and that stretch is going to hurt even worse. If you asked, he'd oblige, making sure to be extra soft and gentle, only pushing half-way in as he coos and brushes the hot tears from your eyes. Post-apocalypse Jayce is far less careful. I wouldn't say he doesn't care, but he understands the concept of a little bit of pain for a lot of pleasure. He's still sweet, carefully covering your sheets with layers of towels and folding a couple under your hips, but his strokes could convince you he's trying to fuck your period away. You'd be lying if you said you didn't feel better after, though.
☽Viktor☾
☽Viktor is not one to beat around the bush at all; he never even liked the man to begin with. It started with something small, like the lack of effort he put into dates or forgetting your birthday, and ever since then things just snowballed until every offense was break-up worthy to him. He didn't hold the door open? Break up with him. He was a bit too flirty with the waitress when you went out to eat? Break up with him! You caught him talking to his ex? BREAK UP WITH HIM!
☽Before the breakup, he is not soft about it at all. The first few gossip sessions were all fun and games but the more you talked about him, the more his dislike grows until he hates the guy and he's only physically seen him a couple times. He refuses to even be in the same room as the man, he says it's because the mere thought of him literally makes him sick and he's sure seeing his actual face will genuinely kill him.
☽He doesn't know what you see in him, and neither do you after the fact. Hindsight really is 20/20. Viktor truly isn't that great with comfort until he sees how seriously upset you are. You're crying over a tub of ice cream with a rom com playing in the background as you blubber about how all of your relationships fall apart and you just don't know where you went wrong, and he's truly confounded on how you're this upset over a toad.
☽This all being said, he's very supportive. It's a lot of work to swallow his sarcastic remarks and roll his eyes less, but the sincerity of his comfort is very easy. It's not instinctual for him to sit there while you cry in his arms, but the kind words he murmurs, you deserve better than that, you deserve a love greater than you even ask for, you deserve even more than the world, you deserve the better world he wants to create. And he doesn't want to sound smarmy or jealous, like some loser who was waiting in the wings for the breakup even Jayce saw coming from a mile away, but if he cared less about what you thought of him; he'd say you deserve him.
☽He realizes it's much too soon, so he buys you ice cream and tells you that you look pretty even when your mascara is running, and your hair is in a state of disarray, and he genuinely means it. He's most valuable for his honesty, it's why you came to Viktor in the first place. He was always honest about how he felt about your ex, even when he was holding his tongue, his expression said all the words he was too nice to say. So, when he tells you that yes, you're still pretty, he may be holding back.
☽It helps that he's funny and can be a tad impulsive. You want to slash his tires? Only slash 3 so that his insurance doesn't cover it. You wanna burn his clothes? He'll make you a pocket flamethrower just to do so. Even better than being open to violence and destruction, he's great at not getting caught. Though he doesn't believe in lying to you, dishonesty drips from his lips like honey.
☽When the crying and the disappointment fades and you feel good enough to joke about how you wasted too much of your time on a man outrunning wisdom, Viktor does slowly try to show you exactly what you deserve.
☼Mel☼
☼While Mel knows the importance of the exterior, she thinks its utterly ridiculous that you can think you aren't pretty enough. She knows insecurities are hard. 'The grass is greener on the other side' really isn't the comfort most people think it is. Sometimes it's well worth it to face the consequences of achieving what you've wanted. Whatever it is, acne, being flat chested, noticeable scars, being different is just hard. It doesn't matter how much your differences make you unique, it really is easier to be like everyone else.
☼She tells you every chance she gets how beautiful she thinks you are. To pretend that inside beauty is all that matters is simply a lie, she interacts daily with people whose heads are full of air, but people only respect them because they are a pretty face with full pockets. She knows it sounds untrue to you, but that's why she tells you so often. Not in despite of anything, not because of anything, you're just stunning.
☼Since you're already hyper-focused on your insecurity, I think she'd ignore it. Honestly, she doesn't think of it at all. It's about as noticeable to her as the color of your eyes or how tall you are, it's a miniscule detail that doesn't define you, it's just another feature. It's nothing important to her, and she wishes it didn't bother you.
☼While you are all adults, she knows that some lack the decorum necessary to not make their judgements known and it bothers her deeply. Anytime anyone speaks on it, she rolls her eyes. She thoroughly thinks it's beneath you to be bothered by it. Not only is it low-hanging fruit, but it's a sign of deficient intellect. They couldn't insult your intelligence, your competence, or anything about you that actually mattered, they had to go for your appearance, and she will tell them as such. She is very good at her professional insults.
☼As much as she compliments you, she emphasizes your other traits. If you're a writer, an artist, a dancer, any skill you have that you built for years or any talent you were just born with, she dedicates a lot of time to participating and validating it at any chance she gets. She wants you to take pride in something else, something that no one can take from you. Looks fade throughout the years, everyone is eventually going to be cast aside as their hairs grey and their teeth start to fall out. Knowledge never grows obsolete. Besides, people with legitimate interests and hobbies are too busy doing things they enjoy ruminating on how they look.
☼She knows it isn't what you want to hear, but it is what you need to hear sometimes. You are perfect just the way you are. She has never had any desire or want to change you. She has never imagined you any other way than the way you are. She doesn't want anyone who looks different than you, she doesn't want you because of the way you look. Of course, she thinks you're beautiful, but that doesn't matter to her. Never has and it never will. Just as she has faith that you aren't with her for how she looks, she hopes you have faith that you looks are not a determining factor for why she's with you. You are just you and she wouldn't want you any other way.

I HATE how Jinx was turned into a mouthpiece for C_itvi this season. Why did her loathing of Caitlyn just disappear even though she acted exactly how she had feared in her hallucinations, nearly shooting Isha and leading the strike team gassing the Lanes? It almost feels like the writers took the homophobic Jinx memes from season 1 seriously and scrambled to contradict that notion in the most ham-fisted way possible.
I also find it interesting that Jinx (and Ekko, actually) never finds out about Caitlyn's physical and verbal abuse of Vi because no way in hell would she have said "you deserve to be with her" if she had known. And why was her final conversation with Caitlyn in the prison so out of character and forced? Why would Jinx apologise for the death of Cassandra, a councillor who contributed to the oppression of Zaun?
It's clear the writers were too cowardly to give Jinx any kind of strong political stance as a consequence of the Piltover-Zaun conflict being sidelined.

I just know that I am going to be BAWLING while watching season 5, especially when byler has their first kiss. Byler, and stranger things as a whole, mean so much to me. Like I can’t even put it into words. Stranger things is what lead me into become interested with horror, and now it’s my favourite genre of all time. I can’t explain how my life would change if I never watched stranger things, it gave me so much hope for myself. While I’ve never been physically bullied, I have definitely been verbally bullied by peers in the past, and had been labeled as “one of the weird/queer kids” and it hurt me so much back then. Seeing stranger things and having the nerds and outcasts save the day and get so much praise truly helped me realize I wasn’t as alone as I felt. And byler, holy shit. I don’t think I’ve ever related as much to two fictional characters as I have with Mike and Will. Seeing Mikes internalized homophobia made me so relieved, which sounds kinda weird, but knowing that it was an experience other kids had was so reassuring. It reminded me of my younger self. Back when all of my friends had started to get crushes on the boys, and we would huddle under playground equipment talking about them. I didn’t realize it at the time and was very in denial, but I had a big crush on my best friend, who was yapping about one of the boys in my grade. So I’d lie, and randomly picked one of the boys who they hadn’t talked about, and I said I liked him. I didn’t. I hated his guts. But the feeling to try and fit in felt so massive. Eventually as I grew up and with the support of my parents, I finally managed to admit to myself that I was in fact bi (with a huge preference for women). Mike, Will, Robin and Vickie, mean so much to me and other queer people. I love them with all of my heart. The Byler community has made me feel so welcome and loved, and I hope you guys feel the same. Even though I have my worries, I trust the duffer brothers to give stranger things the ending it deserves. (Please don’t end like the umbrella academy that was actually so bad) Thank you for reading my thoughts and have a wonderful day/evening ❤️ ALSO it’s Christmas Eve as I post this so Merry Christmas Eve and happy holidays to those of you celebrate something else!

What would the guys get their darling for the holidays?
Truth be told, everyone of them would give you anything you'd ask. All of them are royalty so they definitely have the funds to give you anything, no matter how expensive it is.
If we're talking about personal gifts, I would say Lilian would give you anything embroidered by him, or perhaps even a whole outfit, or maybe it would he himself tied up on your bed.
Maleficus would give you jewelry, specifically rings, bespoke rings that is similar to the ones on his horns, made specifically for faes but now given to you as a gift of his love.
If Ivory has already given his heart to you, then it would be the heads of people who wronged you, think cats that bring dead mice to their owner. Also, he would most definitely do those boudoir photoshoot if he was able to, each picture having less and less clothes ;)
As cold as Severin can be, he understands that Christmas is the season for giving, and so he would give everything that you said that you liked, even when it was just in passing. You like that coat? Expect one of each colour. You have a specific bakery you go to that makes your favourites? See that baker become one of the royal staff next time. Anything that you say, you'll have. It's a way for him to show his love since he's not the type to physically nor verbally show it.

Now that the musical is officially complete, what are your thoughts on Epic? I’m curious to see your analysis.
I didn't prepare any essay, therefore I will try to verbalize my thoughts and organize them in the best way possible.
Epic's Odysseus is completely different compared to Homer's Odysseus. Jorge explained in one of his videos that throughout his journey Odysseus has to learn that ruthlessness is necessary if he wants to see his wife and son again. Odysseus from the Iliad and Odyssey never really puts himself morality questions or has an inner conflict with himself. He commited war crimes, enslaved people (and consequently killed them), murdered a baby he wasn't even forced to kill in the first place etc. Eventually you could say that the ten years journey "humbled" him and made him a better person, and even this idea is headscratching.
There are two aspects from the entire Album which dissapointed me and I would gladly change them:
a) The moment when he tells Circe that he cannot sleep with her because he loves his wife too much, and she's like "Okay, then let me help you!" Circe was the daughter of Helios and a powerful goddess, not just some ordinary chick he could've avoided whenever he wanted to. The moment he arrives on her island he finds himself in a position of inferiority, and is treated in a similar way a woman or a slave from where he comes would be treated. He cannot simply refuse her nor do anything against her without consequences, and yet the album failed to show the power imbalance between them two and made it look as if Odysseus from the original ancient poems could've simply said no and that's it. The subject becomes way more complicated when you think about male victims, and how rape or SA towards them still isn't taken seriously.
2) The moment he fought with Poseidon. A mortal cannot physically fight with a god and win unless they receive divine intervention. Diomedes was helped by Athena when he fought Ares. Perseus received Hera's blessing when he fought Dionysus. The only guy who managed to effortlessly wrestle a god was Heracles, because dude was basically steroids on legs. Not to mention that physical strenght wasn't Odysseus' most helpful, distinctive trait, but his intelligence, cunning and ability to lie. It would've been way more realistic if he would've outsmarted Poseidon, whereas Athena and Hermes would've helped him escape and go back to Ithaca.
There are also other small details, such the fact that they chose the roman version of Scylla's background story, or that they depicted sirens with fish tails instead of bird wings.
Overall I enjoyed the entire musical. I know that adapting an entire epic poem into an album isn't easy and I appreciate the fact that Jorge talked about the differences between EPIC and the Odyssey, as well as explaining why he decided to make them and pointing out that his album shouldn't be used as a source of information at school. There are the small details though that could've made it a compelling adaptation rather than just a good one. 7.5/10.

Jinx and Powder names
I saw someone comment on how ‘Powder’ is something of a deadname to Jinx— and I’m not saying I don’t agree with that, it’s just I don’t fully agree with the idea that Jinx hates the name ‘Powder’ or necessarily being called Powder.
Mind you, I haven’t finished Arcane and it is taking me a GOD awful long while to.
From the spoilers I’ve seen, Jinx verbally corrects people whenever they call her ‘Powder’. She also doesn’t react positively when people (In one instance, Ekko) calls her ‘Powder’ and genuinely blows herself up. She also reacts physically (breath hitching) when Viktor calls her Powder.
Like the name Powder is a curse (intended like the word ‘Fuck’, but ‘Curse’ as in magic works too) Which is interesting to me, because the name Jinx seems like the bigger ‘curse’ here.
And here is where my (probably obvious) headcanon comes in.
Jinx does not hate the name Powder, she hates the idea the name Powder brings.
Powder and Jinx are obviously very different people, but there are still similarities as we see in the AU.
But I’ll mainly focus on Young Powder.
Powder is a child who is shown to be very dependent on the people around her, not only to seemingly survive but to also entertain herself. Which we see in both how she relies on the help of others and immediately goes to the bar(?) to chat with Vander whilst Vi and the others are busy. (I honestly don’t remember what they were doing, I think that was the scene Vi was defending Powder from Mylo, though.)
Essentially, Powder was a physically and mentally weak kid. Which, understandable, she was a kid.
Powder was naive, but she was smart. Powder was able to see value in objects, which was something Mylo, and potentially both Vi and Claggor were unable to do. (Though, I’m pretty sure Vi only implied that to get Mylo off Powder’s back and potentially help Powder feel more useful.) Powder was also mature, or at least was a lot more mature compared to the Jinx in season 1.
Jinx has obviously changed a lot since Powder. Powder was someone who needed protecting and help to survive, Jinx is someone who didn’t care on whether or not she survived and had countless times shown that with her suicidal tendencies.
Powder is someone no one would want to be. A burden.
Jinx is someone who everyone had given up on, insisting on being a ‘Jinx’ when someone tried to show potential in change for her.
Jinx is seemingly a name used for Powder(at least in childhood) when she has not only done something wrong, but when they have lost faith in her. As seen in (I believe two out of two times) of someone calling her a ‘Jinx’.
By calling Jinx ‘Powder’, someone is essentially putting faith in her. They believe that she is still, or has the potential to be, a defenceless, physically weak, dependent child. I’m not saying that’s what Powder is, I’m saying that I believe that’s what Jinx sees Powder as.
There are instances when Jinx allows people to call her ‘Powder’, though.
Vander
Someone else who I can’t find clips of. (I think it was Isha, but she more acknowledges herself as Powder rather than calling herself Powder.)
This is Jinx no longer being weak. By calling her ‘Jinx’, someone is accepting that she has changed; that Powder is no longer around and therefore no longer a weak, defenceless, dependent person.
But there are people (I’m saying person.) who Jinx will allow herself to fall into ‘Powder’ with and allow to see her as Powder. Vander. She doesn’t need to be Jinx around him, she doesn’t need him to know how far she’s fallen and she doesn’t need him to acknowledge that she has changed.
Vander is an exception to Jinx being acknowledged because, in my opinion, Jinx doesn’t want Vander to lose complete faith in her.
Okay, I wasn’t going to add this into the Final Cut, but I did want to say— when I was finding clips to talk about, Jinx is having a talk with Isha and
“I thought I was rid of her for good.”
Obviously, this is post-shimmer so it could just mean that ‘Oh, Powder drowned. She’s ‘dead’, No more’. But I am taking this as Jinx completely denying and disregarding Powder’s existence at one stage.
She denies being Powder, she denies being weak. She has always been a Jinx.
Only in Season 2, she accepts that Powder was a thing now that Isha represents Powder.
Isha is small, she’s a child and she’s very creative— Just like Powder. Powder looked up to someone just like Isha did, Isha was a tinkerer (Although I’m pretty sure she picked that up from Jinx) and Isha had a knack of getting into trouble and needing to be saved.
Also, I’m not using past tense on purpose. I always do that, don’t mind me.
But Isha also represents a lot of what Powder wasn’t. Isha doesn’t back down in the face of danger and Isha very much shows that she wasn’t afraid to do the wrong thing if she thought it would help the ones she cared about (which is what Powder did with Monkey Bomb.) except Isha executed her plan perfectly.
Even before the war, Jinx had accepted Powder as something she no longer minded now that Isha was around.
I don’t know what else to add so I’m finishing it here. Just a cliff note, these are my interpretations and I don’t have to be right! (I, however, will think that I’m right because I’m egotistical like that.) thank you for reading.
Edit: because it’s no longer 2 in the morning for me, I’ll add on a final thought.
After Isha, Jinx realises how similar Isha and Powder were— but Isha was anything but defenceless, weak and whilst Isha was dependent, Isha was just as brave (if not braver) than Powder was at presumably her(Isha’s) age.
I believe the reason Jinx accepts that Powder was a thing now is due to being able to see the similarities in Powder and Isha. Powder was someone who made mistakes and Isha? Isha was someone who— whilst also making mistakes to try and help others has good intentions and is overall a good kid.
So perhaps Powder wasn’t so bad after all.
Perhaps it’s okay for Powder to have existed, even if she is now Jinx.

So, uh. My partner and I (T4T) were swatted by our neighbor on Christmas Eve. Nobody was physically hurt, but we both have cop trauma and this was... Horrific and retraumatizing. We're going to talk to our apartment management about it, because these people have harassed us since day one; Our front door was compromised and he just let himself in while we were cleaning to verbally harass us and it's only escalated from there. They've made false reports of unauthorized pets we don't have to try to get us evicted. We just got out of homelessness.
I just don't have any faith that anything will be done. Our apartment's management has also been severely lacking, our ceiling sags in several places and somehow even our local health department lets that slide. We're in supposedly the most trans safe state in America and still dealing with targeted harassment, and it's just gotten worse since the damn elections. I'm still grappling with the fact that we could've died, for absolutely no reason other than an old man hates how his neighbors are queer.
I'm so so so sorry anon. SWATing is a crime in at least some places and you should look into if you can get him fucked for that. I love you. <3

Nah, it's chill.
Merry Christmas, BTW! I hope your years' been a good'n!
Anyway, this is gonna mostly be based on my hc of what happens to Dash after high school.
Dash After High School - If ya wanna take a look-see.
But the overall idea is that Dash's parents were abusive, but in polar opposite ways.
Whereas his mom, Freida, was negligent & a bit of a wino, his dad, Harvey, was a lot like how Dash is at school: loud, confrontational, & just an outright a-hole.
(Looking at the brief picture we see of the 2, I sort of see Freida as the one with money & Harvey as a bad decision she made. They have cash, but the guy was wearing a white sleeveless shirt &, I think, jeans. My guess is, he was a jock in school, but either his family was poor, he was disowned, or he burned all his family's money by making terrible business decisions. Either way, when I look at him, I see either a bum or a skinflint.)
Anyway, he didn't normally get physical with his abuse, but he definitely got verbal... & loud. But he would also push Dash to "be the best" & was never completely satisfied with anything Dash accomplished, who despite resenting him, also wanted to make his dad proud.
Thing is, dude is also stupid macho in the really bad way, as well as low-key misogynistic & homophobic.
Like, there's not agreeing with a person's lifestyle, but supporting their decision to live their lives & make their own decisions regarding said lives... & then there's the assholes who legitimately hate those who prefer their own sex to the opposite.
Harvey is the latter... Adores his baby daughter, though. (But then again, everyone loves Sarah. Including Dash. If that curly-haired little angel were put in danger, then even the strangely cowardly Dash would throw down with a ghost. Seriously, that little girl is the sunny spot in Dash, Harvey, & Freida's lives & woe be anyone who dare harm a hair on her adorable little head. She's like Shirley Temple meets Annie & I love her.)
The problem comes in that Dash is bi. (Technically, I hc him as bisexual, heteroromantic, but Harvey would exactly hear that last part before exploding.)
Basically, this, plus all the expectations & pressure put on him from not only his dad, but also the school, his mom's emotional manipulations & gaslighting, the fact that Dash really isn't doing all that great academically, the clock is ticking, & this little line from the literal first episode of Danny Phantom:
Tumblr media
"These are the best years of my life. After High School its all downhill for me. How am I suppose to enjoy my glory days eating mud?!" Which, woof!
And, he was bound to only react in one of a few ways. It's just that the reaction he chose was to be a dick.
However, I think the reason that he targets Danny is partly the fact that despite how... peculiar the Fentons are in-general. Yet, despite that, Jack & Maddie are very obviously caring & love their kids to pieces. Sure, they're not perfect, but they love & support their kids & would do anything for them.
So... I think that at least part of it is that Dash is jealous of Danny. (Though, I don't think that's all there is to it.)
Also, Danny's just too much of a little snarkmouth, so I doubt that he only started cracking wise at Dash after he died & came back. Which, if so, then that most likely adds a bit to it.
But... & this part I'm not totally sure about, but it's possible... either Dash is p.o.-ed at Danny for trying to keep him away from his sister or...
He may have... a teeny-tiny bit of a crush... Possibly a hate-crush that shows itself in the form of "pigtail pulling." Metaphorically speaking, of course.
Now, this is honestly just based on what all we know of him in canon, so I very well could've misinterpreted things.
Sorry if any of this sounds bad, I like to get a bit experimental with my hcs.
I’d like to take a quick minute to talk about Danny and Groose interacting.
At the very first glance, Danny was instantly reminded of Dash. He’d be lying if he said it didn’t intimidate him, but when he stayed longer and saw how he actually acted, he realized quickly how friendly he really was. Groose was much friendlier and pretty clever. He’s watching his strength when interacting with others, and apologizes when he slips up.
If someone outshines him in some way, he doesn’t get upset and try to bully them, but instead he compliments them and often tries to learn from them.
From Groose’s perspective, Sky had warned him that the new member was a little freaked out since he’s never been to Skyloft, so he expected Danny to be pretty nervous. He didn’t fail to notice the fact that he was intimidated by him, though. It hurt a little, but Groose also understood that a height difference like this often startled people a little.
Then he started getting a little interested in stars. He told Danny about it, and it slowly turned into Groose learning a lot about the night sky from Danny. Next thing they knew, they’re friends!

mmm throwaway conversation between Dan and Danny that popped into my head that I had to write out:
"You spent ten years being a one-man mass extinction event, then went back in time and fought me, and lost." Danny snarls, arms crossed and throat tight. His mouth pulls back to bare dagger-sharp teeth, and his eyes burn with the familiar thrum of ectoplasm heating up behind his eyes. "If I didn't believe you were half of Vlad before, I do now."
His other self -- and really, can he even call him that? He's half of Vlad too. Two halves severed from each other and welded together to make a new whole, -- snaps his head over to him. Wild-eyed and furious, he looks unlike the man Danny fought before, the one unruffled and untouched, unbothered by the world around him. It's familiar, but not like the way a reflection is.
"What's that supposed to mean." The Other hisses, matching Danny's scowl one-for-one with fangs much bigger and sharper than his.
But there's a reason lions fear hyenas. Danny matches the rumble in The Other's chest with one of his own, and shoves his face close to his. "I don't lose."

[Nor does Michael, settling where he was with his head against Apollyon’s and his arms around it, quietly comforting it the entire time. Eventually however, the angel’s eyes opened again.]
[He stared at the other, his gaze still tender and affectionate, but also a look of vague consideration — or perhaps confliction — behind his eyes this time. He gave no verbal or physical indication of such, however, just watching Apollyon close]
*It seems that even with the extra comfort of the bed, this sleep is still a particularly restless one. Apollyon shifts in his sleep, his expression tense. He manages to press himself closer to the other, his hold tightening significantly*
*And then, suddenly, they jolt awake with a gasp, eye wide with a fear that seems just a bit too intense for how much they normally express. They register Michael a little quicker than usual as well, their sporadic breathing hitching in their throat as they manage to sit up just slightly enough to look over his face*
[ @thybrotherskeeper ]
[Of course, Michael looked the same as how it had before he fell asleep — perhaps a little tired, but nothing else. Still, it did seem a little startled as well by the other’s abrupt awakening. It blinked a few times, meeting the other’s gaze with a concerned expression, as it started to mutter quiet reassurances to him]
Hey, hey, you’re alright… it’s okay, you’re safe…
[Michael’s hold tightened in an attempt to comfort Apollyon, curling around him a little in a near protective manner]

drank too much
[ID: Digital Art of Vash and Wolfwood from Trigun Maximum. Vash’s body is turned slightly away from the viewer as he holds a staggering Wolfwood by his shoulder. He has one foot ahead of the other, the foot in the back used to stabilize himself from tipping over. Wolfwood is tethering into Vash, his weight pressed into him with his arms wrapped around Vash’s waist and his face is hidden away as he leans against Vash’s shoulder. Vash’s expression can be seen, his eyes wide and mouth tight-lipped, and his face is flushed red. A speech bubble comes out from Wolfwood, saying a drawled “Spikeyyy...”. The background are desaturated pastels of blue and green, showing night time, as they stand in the middle of an empty street that is also lit by the moon not depicted. Yellow light is seen coming from the inside of a saloon. End ID]

the worst parent poll made me realize just how many ppl in the fandom are willing to jump straight into abuse apologia. bc on one hand you have ppl dumbing down crow's abuse to "him just being mean" and on the other end you have ppl saying that curlfeather didnt abuse frostpaw because she sacrificed herself and frost + her siblings love her so she couldnt possibly be an abuser. truly mindboggling stuff take these serious topics away from the fandom asap.
Part of me feels like it's because many in this fandom have a feeling that if a character's actions are abusive, it means you're "not allowed" to like them. Like there's an impulse where if you liked a character, it MUST mean they weren't THAT bad, because you'd personally never like "an abuser."
As if it reflects poorly on your own morality, as a person, that you connected with An Abuser. Understood them, even. Even if it was just a character.
If it's immoral to Like Abusive Characters, of course your reaction is going to end up being abuse apologia. To enjoy something isn't logical, it's emotional, so you will get defensive about it when questioned. When you do, it's not going to be based on logic because you didn't reason yourself into that position in the first place. It's an attack on you as a person.
I feel like that's often the root of abuse apologia in this fandom, and sometimes the world at large; "If I admit that this character/person IS abusive, it means I was doing something bad by liking them, so I have to prove to everyone else that they weren't or it means I'm bad too."
And to that I say... That's a BAD impulse! Grow up and admit you resonated with a character that did a bad thing! If that's an uncomfortable thought, sit with it!
Sometimes abusers are likeable! They usually DO think they're justified in their actions, or doing it for "a good reason," or were just too preoccupied to care. MOST of the time, people who commit abusive actions are also hurt or traumatized in some way. You might even empathize with them. None of this means their actions have to be excused or downplayed.
"Abusers" aren't a type of goddamn yokai, they're people just like you and me. You don't help victims of abuse by putting the people who hurt us in an "untouchable" category.
In fact, all it does is make you less likely to recognize your own controlling behavior. You're capable of abuse. People you love are capable of it, too. People who love YOU can still hurt you.
In spite of how often people regurgitate "It's Ok To Like A Character As Long As You're Critical Of Their Actions," every day it is proven to me further and further that no one who says it actually understands what that means.
All that said; I think it's no contest which one's a worse parent, imo.
They both mistreated their children, but Curlfeather did it through manipulation without verbal or physical abuse. She politically groomed her into a position of power so that she could use her as a pawn. It can be argued if this counts as child abuse-- but it's firmly still under the broad category childhood maltreatment, which is damaging.
(though anon I'm with you 100% at seeing RED when "but she sacrificed herself" is used as an excuse. Curlfeather's death does NOT CHANGE what she did to Frostpaw in life. I think it's a valid point to bring up when comparing her to another terrible parent for judgement purposes, such as in the context of this poll, but I really hate the implication that redemption deaths "make up" for maltreatment.)
Crowfeather, meanwhile, is textually responsible for putting Breezepaw through verbal AND physical abuse, as well as child neglect. His motivations include embarrassment from a hurt ego, revenge on his ex, and being sad because of a dead girlfriend. This abuse drives Breezepelt towards radicalization in the Dark Forest.
You could argue Curlfeather is a worse person for Reedwhisker's murder, but as a parent? It's not even a question to me. Crowfeather's one of the worst dads in WC.

Imagine Phillip Buckley tearing a strip off Buck for something (like PDA with Tommy at Maddie's wedding)
and all of a sudden Bobby is right there
"HEY!...Back away from my kid."
"YOUR kid...?"
"Well, you sure as hell haven't been acting like he's yours during the last thirty years, so yeah...my kid. Back. Off."

"Rhaenyra isn't the stepmother, she's the mother who stepped up!"
Tumblr media
The HOTD writers themselves are hardly doing anything to support that narrative, so I take this rhetoric with a grain of salt. While I think, in some way, Rhaenyra does care for Baela and Rhaena....if I had to point out a motherly figure for them that could pose as someone stepping in Laena's place, Rhaenyra would not be it.
#house of the dragon#hotd#hotd critical#rhaenyra targaryen critical#baela targaryen#rhaena targaryen#this mainly just comes from my frustration with this fandom painting rhae as overly motherly toward baela & rhaena#making it seem like we had so much to go on for her being a good stepmother when it's really the bear minimum#there's more with rhaenys being there for them than with rhae--- both physically & verbally#even with scenes where she's with them: for baela it holds more of political means with her having a dragon and then using her to see corly#like sure she could be concerned about her well-being but it's definitely not on the same level as with her sons#don't even get me started on with rhaena bc that “be a mother to them” line had me 🤬#and her referring to her sons as hers and the pain of sending them away but not adhering to rhaena's emotional needs and feelings of inferi#rity--- like it didn't sit right with me especially when she couldn't even be bothered to hug her#i like to enjoy headcanons about their relationship but the canon material doesn't stray far either#rhaenys raised baela alongside her on driftmark she sought rhaena out when they met after so long#she advocated for rhaena to her husband over joffery--- she's their grandMOTHER that stepped up tbh#tbh i wouldn't really be rocking with my stepmom if she sought after & slept with my dad at my mom & stillborn brother's funeral#barely comforted my sister and i when we were injured in a fight (only her sons)#then got married to said father not long after said funeral...like i'd be pressed tbh!#dni if you can't have a collected conversation about this#rhaenys targaryen#(also just bc im a little critical of rhae doesn't mean i hate her in comparison to others she's not that bad tbh)
