I go, 'Nope. We have no bound pages. There's three or four legal boxes. You can have all you want. I saw them the other day.'
They had a couple interns just take all the pages and put them into a document, and then they wrote interstitials, and they slapped my name on it. This is the honest-to-God truth: The first and only draft of The Emperor's New Groove was handed in two weeks after the movie was in theaters."

Tomura glances around the room. Of everybody who’s left, only you and Tomura can be said to actually be awake. Spinner’s yawning on every other breath, Toga and the girl are cuddled up in the same beanbag, snoring, and Dabi drank too much eggnog and was out like a light before they’d even finished Krampus. You and Tomura are definitely outnumbered.
It’s not like Tomura isn’t tired. Tomura’s really tired. Since he gave up forcing everybody to watch Gremlins in favor of your movie, he wants to make sure it was worth it, and he wants to know exactly what happened in case you want to talk about it afterwards. He’s hoping you do. He’s not ready for you to leave yet.
Tomura wasn’t sure about seeing you outside of work, but then he decided it would help him figure things out. Seeing you around the office is one thing. For him to know if he likes you, he has to know what you’re like outside of work, so he can decide if he’d want to hang out with you then, too. Tomura’s not good at this whole liking-people bullshit. If there was some kind of life skills class where everybody learned it, he probably missed it while he was being homeschooled or in juvie. By the time he got out, halfway through high school, everybody already knew what they were doing. Tomura just has to fumble through somehow.
You make it feel less like fumbling. It makes more sense to Tomura when you’re sitting next to him, roasting Love Actually just like he is, actually paying attention during the horror movie he picked instead of drinking straight through it. You pay attention to things, notice them, just like Tomura’s Secret Santa notices stuff about him. Tomura feels less weird about being noticed than he used to.
But he doesn’t want to just sit here noticing and getting noticed all night long. He wants to talk to you about something that’s not work or whatever dumb Christmas thing is happening, and he can only manage half. “Is this really the first movie you thought of when I said you could pick one?”
“I was trying to pick one you all would like,” you say. Something about that reminds Tomura of the way you wrote your wish list. “I do like this one, though. Some people think it’s stretching it to call it a Christmas movie, but it’s all leading up to Christmas, so I count it.”
Movies that can only be called Christmas movies if Tomura’s stretching it are his favorite kind of Christmas movies. “Why do you like it when it’s going to be sad?”
You glance sideways at him. “What makes you think it’s going to be sad?”
“The grandma telling the story is the main girl when she’s old, and she’s telling it past tense,” Tomura says. You nod. “Besides, he’s – like that. No way is that working out well for anybody.”
“But it could,” you counter. “You might be right about how the story goes, but there’s nothing in the story that says it has to be that way.”
Tomura thought you were awake, but maybe you’re sleepier than he thought. “You mean, other than the whole story so far?”
“I mean –” You trail off. “In some stories, there’s obstacles that can’t be overcome. Like somebody being dead, or something being too wrong to work. And in some stories the obstacles are a choice, kind of. Those are the ones I like.”
Tomura’s played games where choices matter. Somehow he always stumbles into the bad ending, and knowing that there’s a good ending out there that he was too stupid to get makes it even worse. If you like those stories, you’re probably better at making choices than he is. Still – “If the end’s the same, why does it matter?”
“Well –”
“Hey, can you save the philosophy until after the movie?” Spinner yawns. “I’m still trying to watch.”
Tomura gives it five minutes until Spinner passes out, and he’s only off by about thirty seconds or so. Now it’s just the two of you awake, watching the weird movie you picked. Tomura’s trying hard to watch the movie, but just like he keeps getting the song you sang stuck in his head, he keeps getting stuck looking at you.
The movie ends like Tomura thought it would – sadly, but not surprisingly – and he glances at you. “You’re going to say she could have chosen to stay with him,” Tomura says, and you nod. “Why would she do that? When he’s – like that –”
Tomura doesn’t get why he’s being squeamish about calling it like it is. The main character’s ugly. Scary. Nothing anybody wants to touch. “Maybe she likes him how he is,” you say. You’re not looking at the screen anymore. You’re looking at Tomura. “There’s nothing about the story that says she couldn’t have picked him. There’d have been consequences, but there are always consequences. And I guess that’s why it’s sad. Knowing it could have been the other way just as easily.”
You look away from Tomura, and even though he usually hates being looked at, he sort of misses it. “I guess it’s good that everybody fell asleep,” you say. “This doesn’t really seem like a sad-Christmas crowd.”
“Sad Christmas makes more sense than happy Christmas,” Tomura says before he can really think about it. “It never made sense to me, except –”
Making friends. Spending the holidays with them instead of wondering why everybody but him got to celebrate with people they mattered to. And he’ll never admit it to Toga, or anyone, but the Secret Santa thing is kind of fun. He likes leaving stuff for you and seeing how you react. Almost as much as he likes getting things from whoever his Secret Santa is.
“Yeah,” you say, like he’s explained it all out loud. Maybe he’s tired enough that he has and just didn’t realize. “I can see that.”
You’re doing that noticing thing again. Tomura keeps looking at you, trying to notice you back, but the longer the two of you look at each other, the weirder it starts to feel between you. Like there’s something more that needs to happen. Tomura steels himself, braced for whatever you do or to act as soon as he has an idea of what to do.
And then you look away. “It’s late. I should go.”
“You could stay,” Tomura says. “None of us except Toga live here, and we’re all sleeping over.”
You look like you’re thinking about it. Tomura can think of a lot of reasons why you should – it’s late, it’s cold, it’s probably a long way to your apartment, you’d basically have to wake up again by the time you got home – but before he can say any of them, you nod. “Okay. Where should we sleep?”
You end up with your heads at opposite ends of the couch, under the same blanket. Both of you rustle around, knees knocking together as you try to settle in. You fall asleep faster than Tomura does. There’s no way he can imagine you tangling your legs up with his if you were awake, and Tomura’s so focused on trying to live with being this close to someone that the question of whether he likes you is answered definitively offscreen. It’s something he wakes up with. Just like he wakes up still sharing the couch with you.

so like all the rest of y'all i fucking hate the cgi lion king remakes, and i didnt go see mufasa but i did read the wikipedia description and a) it's literally incompatible with the original movie and extended lore [tell me how mufasa's talking about great kings of the past and zazu's talking about traditions "going back generations" if mufasa is the first king of pride rock???] but most importantly, b) as i only half-jokingly predicted, kion is fucking canon to the CGIverse and the story is told to kiara probably to scare her into being a good sibling or someshit
but that brings up two very important questions
did they plan on making the lion king 2 and having kion be there. cause that would be funny but theres no fucking way they'll actually do that esp since mufasa is underperforming
if mufasa was the first king of pride rock and scar was never in the lion guard. but kion exists in this universe. does this mean that kion's gonna be the first lion guard member. and followup question, does that mean that this bitch is gonna get superpowers and magic tattoos and nobody is going to know what the fuck is going on because that is a lion king comedy i would actually watch

my working definition of conservatism is "the belief that there should be a group the law protects but does not bind, and a group the law binds but does not protect." and that, too, lends itself very well to stories about protagonists who bend the rules to get things done while the narrative makes it clear it's okay because they're the good guys.
fiction in general lends itself very well to a kind of exaggerated 'fundamental attribution error'—we're inside the protagonist's situation and understand why they make the choices they do, we're rooting for them to manipulate the system or get their well-deserved revenge or whatever, but when enemy characters get ahead or get revenge on the protagonist etc etc, they inevitably come off as less deserving of our empathy. when the poor character suddenly becomes rich and can now ruin the lives of the service workers who looked down on her, we aren't stopping to think "hmm, this system where rich people get to order others around is pretty fucked up, nobody should be allowed to do that to service workers," we're just cheering because the correct person now has the power in the situation.
naturally in the moment it feels great! we know for a fact this is The Protagonist, the good character! she won't misuse the power, just threaten people with it a little when they really for sure deserve it! she's a perfect candidate for a law that protects and does not bind! buuuuut of course that designation doesn't exist in real life. which makes "reward the Good Characters" a spectacularly shitty way to run a country.
in real life, hurting someone doesn't become good just because you can point to a reason they deserve it. in real life, having one set of rules for the 'good guys' and another set of rules for the 'bad guys' is how you get boeing executing its whistleblowers while luigi mangione is charged with terrorism.
ok. so we're accustomed to this baseline level of good guy-bad guy double standard in our media, and that makes room for conservative messages. then what's the difference between media with a conservative message and Conservative Bad Art?
my theory is that when the basic underlying assumption of "empathize more with the protagonist and their cause than you do with the antagonists" becomes "empathize ONLY with the protagonist, everyone else is just trying to destroy the status quo for no real reason", as it does in conservative media that's trying to be conservative—especially religious conservative media where progressive belief is indirectly (or directly!) attributed to Satan!—it tends to ruin the audience's suspension of disbelief.
"sure global warming is bad and is killing the planet, but these environmentalists are trying to fight back by stealing alien technology to blow up chicago! they've gone too far!" is a conservative message in a mainstream movie plot. by contrast, "the environment is totally fine actually! these environmentalists are stealing alien technology to blow up chicago simply because they hate how much Americans love capitalism!" is a conservative fever dream. trying to turn a conservative fever dream into Art That Owns The Libs will not work. the disconnect from how motivations actually work in real life is too great and everything will inevitably feel forced and unsatisfying.
plenty of people with conservative mindsets are still good students of character, good enough to model human behavior fairly well in fictional works—even when they're coming to the wrong conclusions about the causes for that behavior, even when they don't really see their marginalized characters as equal to their privileged ones. as long as they're paying attention to real human interaction, real human history, etc, and trying to capture it as best they can, they'll turn out compelling works.
it's when your commitment to your ideology supercedes your commitment to modeling the reality of human behavior that the quality of your work begins to degrade noticeably.
There's currently a few videos going around tiktok trying to answer the question of why conservatives can't make good art and I think that the premise there isn't necessarily true. Lots of conservatives have made good art, and a lot of that art even has pretty blatant conservative messaging it in. But I think people who say this are getting at something in the sense that whenever a conservative idealogue makes art that is designed specifically to reinforce their conservatives views to a similarly oriented audience, those works are almost universally abysmal dogshit. Like the first Ghostbusters movie works better as conservative propaganda than like... Idk, God's Not Dead, because the people who made Ghostbusters didn't sit down to be like "hmmm how can we really own the libs with this one" like that instinct is what actually destroys the quality of a work

Because i love angst I like to imagine that in the movie verse nobody wanted to touch lloyd at all. Like we see that the second he gets on the bus everyone gets as far away from him as possible so touching him would be seen as something you should avoid at all costs. People think that if you touch him it automatically gives you bad luck and will curse you.
Because of this lloyd is incredibly touch starved and the only positive touch he consistently gets is from his mom. When the ninja find out his identity they at first hate him cause they were raised to and it just reaffirms every bad thing in his head. The betrayal and disgust on their face is the same thing he sees in his nightmares. The kids at school were right, he ruins everything hes apart of.
He's so focused on trying to breathe properly he doesn't notice that one of the ninja had walked up to him until he feels a hand on his arm. A gentle touch that to anyone else would mean nothing.
But lloyd just starts sobbing because this is the first time someone had willing went to touch him knowing who he was and risking getting "cursed" just to comfort him.

My Opinion about Barbara Gordon as Oracle.
Oracle is a great character. Don't get me wrong.
My issue has nothing to do with her disability but more on how her writers and fans brag about her job and position in the DCU in an arrogant way.
I've met a lot of toxic barbara gordon fans who think she's an untouchable goddess who everyone has to worship and who thinks she runs the entire universe.
Again Oracle is a great character but I don't like it when her writers and fans ignore, sideline, and dumb down other dc characters to prop her up.
I think she's a bit overhyped and her role is over-exagerrated.
let me explain.
Her fans think she's the brain of the DCU.
I disagree with this.
Barbara is smart but I refuse to believe she's DC's no. 1 most smartest character when the Brainiac Family, Lex Luthor, Detective Chimp and Mr Terrific are right there.
Her fans think she's the one and only tech support and central hub of information for the entire dc superhero community.
Who gave Barbara this title?
In what world where 10 billion+ people exist, is it possible to only have 1 person capable of using technology and providing information to people.
I don't think Barbara is that special.
There are plenty of DC Characters who know how to use a computer.
Who know how to research.
Who know how to hack.
Who know how to communicate with other heroes.
Who know how to use technologies
The Brainiac Family, Lex Luthor, Cyborg, Mr. Terrific, Danny Chase, Bruce Wayne, Tim Drake, Luke Fox, Blue Bettle, Green Arrow, Atom etc.
and Governments exist in dc too!!! There's literally Amanda Waller!
Why are her writers and fans ignoring all these other intelligent tech users and information brokers in DC?
Why are they making Barbara the center of their universe.
Reastically, A lot of characters don't really need Barbara to do things for them.
They can do what she does.
A lot of DC teams have fully functioned and stood on their own without her help.
Her fans always say she's a huge part of the Justice League and Suicide Squad.
Yes she is a member but she's not an integral part of those teams and I'm sorry but she's not easily remembered as a member of those teams. She's forgettable.
Nobody knows who Oracle is outside of comics.
Oracle doesn't even exists in multiple Justice League and Suicide Squad cartoon shows and movies.
Again Barbara is a great character but her role and importance is over-exagerrated.
And I don't know if this is the right word but she looks like a cloutchaser to me since she's often shoehorned into other character's histories and into other teams she has nothing to do with to maintain her relevance. Worse she dumbs down characters along the way to justify her presence.
just like What Tom Taylor did in the Titans book when he shoehorned her into their team despite the fact that she's not a Titan and she's not needed. They literally already have Cyborg for tech support 🙁 what's worse is that Cyborg got sidelined to make her look more useful to the team.
Again I don't hate Barbara.
I just don't like the constant bias towards her.
I do think Barbara is Gotham's information hub, but I don't think she's the queen of the entire dc universe.
Overall i think she's better on her own with her own original supporting cast because Every other hero she touches gets dumbed down to prop her up including Dick.
Dick is an intelligent detective and he's also a good hacker. He's even hacked an alien computer before but the second he gets paired with Barbara, he stays away from technologies and gets dumber so he can be the himbo muscle and she can be the Brains behind their operation 🙁

🎄 Hallmark Christmas Movie AU Part 3 🎄
(part 1) ❄️(part 2)
At this point in the script, we need Simon/his family/the town to face some kind of problem that Wille can help solve in a way that doesn’t rely on his royal status, lets him spend more time with Simon and helps him understand what he’s really passionate about. So what I’m thinking is that Simon’s school or maybe the town community centre is putting on a Christmas play. Actually it’s probably a musical so Simon is very involved. It’s an annual thing that the town is completely obsessed with. It’s not Christmas without it, basically. But now there’s a problem: the beautiful hand-painted scenery flats they always use got damaged somehow (Hallmark Force Majeure) and they’re unusable. Everyone is devastated; the flats are a classic and everybody loves them. They can do the play without them but it just won’t be the same. Nobody is available to paint new ones at such short notice. Except a certain prince who is there on holiday so he has nothing to do besides make eyes at his crush and who took up painting some years ago as a way to calm his anxiety.
So Wille offers to repaint the flats. Mostly he wants to impress Simon and spend more time with him, but he also really likes the thought of being actually useful. I don’t know how long it would take in real life but in fantasy world it takes exactly the amount of time they have. Simon keeps him company whenever he can and enjoys watching him paint and the cute little frown he has on his face when he’s concentrating. They talk and joke and flirt and get to know each other better. Wille thinks that he should probably be trying to protect his heart because he knows that this can never be anything more than a little holiday romance – someone as wonderful as Simon doesn’t belong in his dreary life. But he knows that it’s a lost cause. He’s falling hard and fast and there’s no stopping it, so he decides to just enjoy it while he can.
As Wille paints, at first he’s trying to copy the old flats based on photos, but then he gets ideas for changes and improvements. He doesn’t think he should do that, though; it’s a tradition and he shouldn’t break it. But Simon encourages him to be creative and just do what he feels is right, and Wille finds that he’s really enjoying the process. (See, it’s a metaphor! We are not in a subtle genre.)
And you can guess what happens. At some point Wille gets some paint on his face and Simon tries to wipe it off. They were laughing about something just a second ago but suddenly they’re not. Simon’s thumb brushes over Wille’s cheekbone, smearing the paint. Wille’s nose nudges Simon’s, and their lips finally meet in a kiss that’s been days in the making. It’s soft and brief. They break apart to check in with each other, grin, and the next thing Wille knows is he’s dropping the paint brush and pulling Simon closer, closer, closer.
Simon ends up with paint on the back of his shirt and in his hair, but he doesn’t mind.

When it comes to children, it isn’t surprising when you find out they have an imaginary friend. They’ll giggle, and their eyes will light up as they tell you about their talking dog, who has tea parties with them and rides on the back of their bike. Or the teddy bear that comes to life at night to tell them bedtime stories and help them count sheep.
Yet, eventually, the time comes where they grow up. No longer do talking dogs and dancing dolls follow them around, and the child won’t talk about their little friend anymore, leaving them behind. They fade from one’s memory, a ghost long forgotten…
But what if they don't?
What if they never grow out of their ‘imaginary friend’? What if it follows them all throughout their life? A schizo diagnosis would be in order, and years of therapy.
Sadly, that’s how it is for me; well, not the “seeing things and copious amounts of therapy” part.
He’s just… a coping mechanism.
A world to go to in my head when everything feels as if it’s crashing down. I don’t know where I’d be without him.
When I was small, no one seemed to enjoy my presence. I was always considered a nuisance with all of my heart problems. Making real friends was hard; people would up and leave after a few months, and I’d be alone again. I was a bother, in and out of doctors offices and never able to hang out. Texts would go ignored because I was too busy having tests run in cold hospital beds, hooked up to machines.
The nurses would joke with me, braid my hair and tell me gossip since I was in there so much – but it wasn’t the same as having friends my age that I can go to the movies with. So, when I finally came to the conclusion I’d be alone forever, I made a friend.
Yes, I made a friend.
I put all the qualities of my ideal friend in him; He was straight out of a cool, teen indie movie — the perfect boy next door. He would be the best friend you could go on long road trips with, get donuts with at ungodly hours in the morning. Quiet enough that I could talk for hours and he would just listen, but could still make me laugh with little remarks.
Since nobody else would talk to me, and I had far too much time on my hands, I would travel into my own little world in my head where he existed. I’d talk to him everyday, hang out with him for hours. Whether I was in class, the car, or laying in my bed staring at my ceiling, I’d dissociate into a world where someone truly, really cared about me.
This went on for years. No matter my problem, he’d always have a solution, no matter my opinion, he’d always listen. He was my knight in shining armor from bad dreams and boring moments.
Eventually, I put so much detail into him, it felt as if he was real.
I could practically reach out and touch his hair, know what it would feel like to run my fingers through his messy platinum hair. Pointing out every emotion in his blue eyes, from the joy that sparkled in them when I would tell him jokes that only he would understand, or when they clouded over with worry when I would come to him crying after a stressful day. The moments his angelic smile would let out his signature laugh that would ring in my ears for hours, and I could practically hear it in reality. Or the way I could cringe at him when he would act like an awkward dork, but his giggles made me grin, and I always put up with him. It’s almost as if I could smell the soft fresh laundry scent of him, feel his warm skin from sleep.
Sometimes, I could go months without thinking about the truth;
but sometimes, there were days it would hit me like a truck.
“You’re not real!” I’d cry. He’d be sitting on my bed with me. Reaching out his hand, I’d flinch away. “None of this is real Xavier! You’re not real, this world isn’t real. I’m stuck in this reality where everything is hell, and I have nothing.”
“Hey, I need you to breathe-” This would be one of those moments where I could read his eyes. They’re always so alive, you wouldn’t be able to tell it was all a dream I created in my mind. His electric eyes that would go dark with a whirl-wind of emotions. Sadness, worry, disappointment. It would always be like I could actually see him in front of me, and not like I would be staring at my ceiling sobbing in my bed;
Alone.
No matter what, I’d always forget reality again, and he always came crawling back. We’d pretend like none of it ever happened. Of course it worked, why wouldn’t it? I controlled everything. All of his moves, all of his words, every laugh that came out of his beautiful mouth. He was my puppet and this was my play, just an actor in this devastating work of theatre.
I’d find myself mentioning him without realizing.
“My brother nearly burned down the kitchen yesterday!” One of the girls in my classes had said, groaning and throwing her face in her hands.
I smiled, “I have a friend like that. His cooking skills are… well let's just say calling it ‘cooking’ might be a bit generous.”
They all wiggled their eyebrows, ‘Ooo,’ they’d say, ‘he? Come on, are you holding out on us!’ Laughter erupted around the table, and my cheeks flushed. My whole body lit up with embarrassment, turning red from head to toe.
That night I went home and threw myself into my room, locking my door and screaming at the top of my lungs. Choking out sobs, throwing whatever my frail, shaking hands could grab.
“He’s not real! He’s! Not! Real!” I chanted like a prayer, a prayer that he would just disappear from my mind and I could just be normal. I felt defeated; while my heart struggled, my mind was strained too. My whole world, my entire life revolved around a boy that didn’t exist.
After my breakdown and a shattering ego death, I came to the heart wrenching conclusion that it was time I got over all of this. I needed to grow up, focus on the life ahead of me. I was going to graduate highschool, I was going to go to school to achieve my dreams, I was chasing the life I always wanted.
All by myself.
I couldn’t live the rest of my life tucking myself away everytime life got hard, talking to someone that I made in my head.
I grieved him, mourning as if I had suffered the death of someone so close to me I couldn't bear to go on without him. Yet, with time, the wounds began to heal and the chronic, plaguing thoughts of him fleeted my head. I tucked him deep into a pocket of my mind I couldn’t access if I tried, just to keep myself safe from my own thoughts.
Thanks to all the attention I poured into my studies to distract myself from the emptiness of him being gone, I graduated with excellent grades and got into my first choice, the university of my dreams.
Walking down the campus sidewalk, I took a deep breath of the brand newness of everything. The cold fall air was putting hustle in everyone's strides on the first day of classes, and I mumbled a prayer that things would be different. Life would be different. Things wouldn’t be so lonely or empty anymore.
Trying to navigate my way around, someone bumped into me, almost knocking the both of us down.
They stumbled back, revealing a boy's shy smile, and a quiet chuckle that sounded like an angel's song you’d want to replay on repeat for the rest of your life; one I was all too familiar with.
“Oh, I should have looked where I was going, sorry-”
The boy trailed off and I couldn’t help but stare at him in awe.
The sparkling blue eyes, and his fluffy hair tousled around from the fall wind. The smile that could light a room, and a face that could melt thousands of hearts. He shone bright like a star. I thought if I breathed, or even blinked, he would disappear.
“Anyways, It’s my first day. Well, it’s everyone's first day, but it’s my first…first day. Does that make sense?” He frowned and his ears turned red, as met my eyes for the first time during the whole interaction.
I blinked, and let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding, as he didn’t disappear, “Uh, yeah. It’s my first-first day too.”
The boy laughed, his shyness fading. He could laugh a million times, and I’d keep saying things to keep it going. I never wanted it to stop, I wanted to hear it until the moment I took my last breath.
“Well since it’s both of our first-first day, I guess I’ll be seeing you around campus a lot…” he paused, waiting for my name.
I whispered it so quietly, like it was a curse to speak it out loud. I wasn’t even sure he’d heard me, yet he nodded and softly smiled.
“It’s nice to meet you then. I’m Xavier.”

I absolutely love your posts on Fiyeraba scenes in the Wicked movie! I wanted to ask and this is just a thought I had but do you think Fiyero heals Elphaba with his acceptance of her appearance and as a person, because her major trauma stems from her father's rejection at her birth cause you hear "take it away" at many points throughout pivotal moments. Now that I think about it, her friendship with Glinda could be represented as a version of Elphaba's dynamic with Nessa where the sisters love each other but Nessa never protects Elphaba the way she does.
What are your thoughts on this?

Firstly, I am so sorry it's taken me this long to reply! It's been on my to do list all week but Pre Christmas and work and the need to also write a 3500 word essay on the Lion Cub scene, has made it hard for me to find the time to write a proper answer.
Short answer: I agree.
Long answer: I think Elphaba is hugely damaged by the way her father treats her. I think she has been othered all her life, including by the people who should love her and she so desperately loves. And a lot of this presents itself both in doing anything for them, even when it personally hurts her, and almost deliberately making sure everyone else sees her as a person as "ugly" as her green skin. Because, if she does that, she doesn't end up finding other people whom she loves who don't love her back or betray her, as she says in the Lion Cub scene, she sees it as an issue that she "cares so much".
There's actually three people at Shiz who really challenge Elphaba's view of the world.
Firstly, Doctor Dillamond, who shows her kindness and also regards her as a friend. But it is important to note that he is also othered, Elphaba's fight for the Animals is to some degree because she sees herself in them, she wants them to be able to fit in in a way she never has had. She empathises and her bond with Doctor Dillamond is stronger because they both share similar problems.
Galinda and Fiyero are the first, I think, to get Elphaba out of her shell. They are the ones who love her for who she is, nothing to do with her green skin, and yes, I do think it's healing. She's let down her mask of defensiveness and discovered that people do like her for what's underneath! There is a moment in the movie, when everyone is cheering Elphaba off at the train station where I thought "ok, they could just end the story here and it's the most heartwarming, happy ending for Elphaba" and obviously it's tragic that this is never to be.
Interestingly, I think Elphaba initially regards Morrible and the Wizard as people who see her for who she is too. Morrible because she's very motherly and values Elphaba when she wants to use her for her power (especially in the movie), and the Wizard because Elphaba has grown up believing him in an almost God like way - being so sure he will understand and know best. So that it is ultimately them that betray her hits her very hard.
Which leads to Defying Gravity and Act 2. Where, unfortunately, a lot of this healing for Elphaba is reversed. She's betrayed by Morrible, the Wizard (and to an extent Glinda) when she's condemned as a Wicked Witch, people still judge her for the colour of her skin. She does fight to do what is right, but she does it while sacrificing herself, what she wants, who she loves, what will make her happy - what she had been doing her entire pre Shiz years for Nessa.
There are so many heartbreaking lines in act two where we see how hurt Elphaba is by losing people she trusted or cared about:
"Boq, it's just me, I'm not going to hurt you!"
"Nessa, I have done everything I could for you but it has never been enough and it never will be"
"Don't you think I wish I could? That I could go back to the time when I believed you really were wonderful? The Wonderful Wizard of Oz? Nobody believed in you more than I did."
"Fiyero, not you too," (though obviously this one gets very quickly resolved)
"I can't believe you would sink this low! To use my sister's death as a trap to capture me?!"
So, when we get to As Long As You're Mine, and the scene afterwards, I think Fiyero does attempt heal her, and I do think it does good, but there's also this line:
Elphaba: I wish I could be beautiful... for you. Fiyero: Elphaba... Elphaba: Don't tell me that I am, you don't need to lie to me.
Elphaba's wounds cut deep. And, if I'm honest, I'm not sure she's ever going to be fully healed.
I do think the end of the show, Elphaba passing the task of helping Oz onto Glinda, of being able to go with Fiyero and live a life for themselves is a way to heal. She's given so much of herself to her cause, because she doesn't really value herself as a person, Fiyero - who loves her for who she is and will do anything for her including laying down his life, lets her finally do something for herself that makes her happy. And likewise Glinda, though she doesn't necessarily know it, carrying on her legacy, means Elphaba no longer has to worry about leaving the fight - she knows Oz is in safe hands.
Through the two people she loved the most, by the finale Elphaba might finally be able to heal.
Also, as I have nowhere else to put it: I think her father's treatment of Nessa also fucks Nessa up. I know they're going to change it for the movie, as it's seen as ablest (and I don't want to say it's not as I have a friend who literally has a Doctorate in disability history who sees it as ablest too) but I've always seen the fact that Nessa thinks her chair as a curse as an attitude driven by her father. Her father, in blaming Elphaba for Nessa's disability and coddling Nessa because of it, has always made Nessa feel like it's her defining trait and it's something wrong with her. This has led Nessa to both treat Elphaba as if she owes her something, but also believe her life would be perfect if she could walk - a belief that is brutally smashed in Act 2 when she is given the ability to walk.

I don't like how paramount got rid of Maria's disability in Sonic 3.

...... Yeah I guess it does qualify as a disability doesn't it? It is implied to be a neurodegenerative disease and all.
The movie creators probably decided to cut any mention of Maria having a terminal illness from the story because it's "redundant" considering "she dies from something completely unrelated to her disease anyway." I figure that was the logic behind the decision. That also combined with the fact that they changed Shadows backstory so that he isn't a creation of Gerald Robotnik anymore.
These of course completely changes the entire nature of Shadow and Maria's relationship and Shadows devotion to her. In the games, Shadow was LITERALLY created FOR Maria. He would not exist without her, her tragic situation is what brought about Shadows creation. This makes his complete and total devotion to her dying wish, even if that wish isn't necessarily what he personally wants or believes in, make perfect sense.
It also has a lot of thematic impact going for it that Maria was this saintly figure who filled Shadows heart with love and hope and was a bottomless fount of positivity and optimism DESPITE the fact she was doomed to die at a tragically young age from an illness that was slowly robbing her of her bodily autonomy. And the fact she was killed by the hands of man, her life cut even more short than it already was, makes her final message to bring hope to humanity and give people a chance to be happy even more impactful. Maria was robbed, Maria was dealt a bad hand, and frankly nobody would have blamed her for being bitter and resentful. But instead Maria was very willing to forgive the world, and that wish for a better life for everyone else is all the more powerful as a result.
The movie really just completely drops the ball by changing all of that. Maria wasn't going to die, she had her whole life ahead of her - that DOESN'T make her death "more tragic" it makes it less impactful. She died of a random accident, there's no meaning or purpose to it anymore. Her relationship with Shadow is a lot more hollow, they met due to sheer happenstance, there wasn't even a REASON for Maria to have been at the fucking secret base she just is. Maria and Shadow only knew each other for what, a few months? Maximum? They were just acquaintances, and Shadows angst comes from being sad uwu because he's an alien and not from THE PURPOSE OF HIS VERY EXISTENCE IN THE FIRST PLACE BEING A POINTLESS FAILURE. Shadows GENOCIDAL RAGE against all of humanity really doesn't make ANY SENSE in the movie, especially since HE KNOWS Maria WOULDN'T HAVE WANTED him to KILL EVERYBODY. It's SUCH a stupid shallow motivation that he's talked out of it by a SINGLE FUCKING CONVERSATION, that's how fucking stupid it was that Shadow was ride or die on plan genocide for the entire movie.
Maria doesn't even get any final words in the fucking movie.
Fucking. Fuck ass stupid fucking movie.

“it’s okay akaashi, you say the same thing every single time. I know I’ll eventually find someone,” she chuckled. And he felt that it was a tad bit forced but he didn’t say anything as he nodded, lips pulled together into a thin.
“where are the others?” she questioned as she walked to the fridge, fingers reaching out for a cold bottle of water.
“Tsukishima is in his room studying and kuroo, Hinata and bokuto are out to get some snacks. They wanted a movie night when you got back.”
“oh, I’m not feeling it tonight. Maybe some other day, I’ll go sleep now.” She mumbled as she retreated into her room and closed the door before he could even reply.

No Pickles (Blair Waldorf x gn reader)
Summary: Blair insists on sending your food back when you're given the wrong order

Warnings: the reader is implied to be a bit of a picky eater and have social anxiety/people pleasing tendencies but I think that's about it besides that
A/N: based off that one relationship meme of "they asked for no pickles" because that would totally be blair and her partner in my mind (that's also where the title comes from haha)

Blair loved taking you out places. Shopping, movies, restaurants, you name it. At this point she'd probably taken you to every upscale place on the Upper East Side at least once.
Dinner dates were possibly her favorite. She loved getting all dolled up for you in one of her favorite dresses, doing her hair and makeup before heading out for your reservation. Seeing you dressed fancier than usual wasn't a bad perk as well.
One thing she always knew to keep in mind, however, was making sure whatever place she took you had a menu she knew you'd enjoy. There were certain things you just couldn't stomach eating, and she completely understood that, having gone through her share of aversion when it came to certain food before in the past.
That's why it was so important to her for you to feel comfortable and safe with whatever you were eating, no matter how big or small. In fact, she often ordered for you just to be certain nothing was miscommunicated between you and the server.
It was a Friday night, which naturally meant the two of you were out at dinner together. You usually tried to go out with her at least once a week, just so you could spend some time with her and make sure she wouldn't have to worry about feeling neglected or anything like that.
You decided to order your own food for once, which is something you almost never did and something you were certain you wouldn't do again for a while after this. Everything seemed fine at first when the server brought the food out, but you soon realized they'd put the one thing on your dish that you'd asked for them not to add.
Most people wouldn't see it as that big of a deal and would probably tell you to just take it off, but Blair knew you well enough to know you still wouldn't eat it afterwards because you wouldn't feel comfortable with it. Still, you decided not to say anything, electing to remain quiet and simply eat around the portion of food that you didn't like.
Blair picked up on your sudden silence and hesitation to eat almost immediately, her brown eyes narrowing into a calculating gaze as she watched you. "What's wrong?" She demanded, her tone firm but not quite harsh in a way that was always reserved specifically for you.
"Nothing, it's fine," you responded quickly, far too quickly for what you just said to be true.
Reaching her arm out across the table, she set her hand on top of yours in order to get your attention. "Hey. I know you, and I know when you're upset. Now tell me what's wrong."
Letting out a quiet sigh, you set your fork down and explained. "It's nothing, just- I asked for them not to add something to my plate, and they did it anyway. But I can always eat around it, it's fine."
"Absolutely not. You asked for your food to be prepared a certain way, and I'm not letting them off the hook for it until your order's correct," she stated firmly before snapping her fingers at the nearest server, trying to get their attention. "Excuse me, I'd like to make a complaint," she said while keeping her hand resting on yours in a reassuring manner.
You listened quietly as she told the server what they'd gotten wrong, to which they very profusely apologized, taking the dish back from you before vowing to fix it. That wasn't much of a surprise, as nobody (especially those in the service industry) wanted to risk getting on Blair Waldorf's bad side.
"They'll be back with your food in a minute, sweetie, okay?" She gave you one of those rare genuine smiles of hers that wasn't either condescending or fake, her thumb rubbing the back of your hand as she continued to hold it. "Would you like to try some of mine while you wait?"
Contemplating her offer, you thought for a moment before nodding your head, albeit a little reluctantly. You didn't always like trying out new types of food, but you knew she wouldn't be offering to give you something that she thought you wouldn't enjoy.
Letting go of your hand, she picked up her fork and got a small bit of the food from her meal on it before leaning over the table and feeding it to you. It wasn't something you'd order for yourself, but you could appreciate the flavors and didn't necessarily regret trying it.
She let you have another bite or two before the server returned with your own plate of food, apologizing yet again for the mistake as they set it down in front of you. This time, the dreaded portion of the dish you always ate it without was nowhere to be seen, much to both you and Blair's delight.
Thanking the server, you began to happily dig in to the meal, your spirits successfully lifted and your mood notably brightened compared to earlier when your food first arrived. It tasted even better when you didn't have to worry about accidentally eating the wrong thing.
"Next time they end up getting your food wrong, I want you to tell me right away and I'll make sure they get it fixed, understood?" Blair said in an almost stern matter while watching you eat, looking pleased that you weren't upset anymore.
"Okay," you agreed without protest, eating a little bit more of your food before adding in a somewhat shy manner, "thank you for telling them about it for me so I wouldn't have to."
"Of course. That's my job as your girlfriend, to make sure you always get what you want," she replied as if it was nothing. "You'd do the same thing for me."
You couldn't argue with her there. You'd do anything to make Blair happy, even if it meant doing something as big as going to the ends of the earth. And she'd do the exact same for you, even if it meant doing something as small as sending your food back because they got your order wrong.

End notes: I thought it would be very in character for blair to do something like this and I'm pretty sure I actually talked with @sparklingbutterflies about it one time which is where the idea for this fic initially came from

Ok I’ve been a little busy but wanted to get this out so here’s the basic line up and a small rundown of the characters
It’s going to be under the cut because man this list is crazy long
Jon- Jack Skellington
This is kinda obvious they are both the MC’s of their own story. But more than that, they both have that untapped curiosity and need to know. I mean Jaco had a whole lab set up in the movie. It could also tie back to Jon with his whole “unrelating need for knowledge and distain for boredom” that he talked about having as a child. In this AU I imagine he didn’t grow out of it quite as much as he did in TMA. Although I would still argue that he doesn’t like being bored in TMA I mean while he’s supposed to be “lying low” he still goes out several times to interview people. He also still has some eye magic things like forcing people to tell him things and going all ceaseless watch. But it’s more magic than fear god and I think eyes are a pretty Halloweeny thing.
Martin- Sally
Listen I’m a Jmart girly all the way and I think he fits her storyline so well. He has her cleverness and ingenuity and I can so see him brewing up different poison soups, it’s just like tea. I can’t remember if it’s a cannon or fannon fact that he knits but I think that goes nicely with the whole seamstress thing sally has. I can’t also see him using the detachable limbs thing a lot more to his advantage. Also I think that both him and Sally are mischaracterized to softer versions of themselves and are way more devious than people first think. I would also change his background a bit so his mom is Doctor Finkelstein, but like she is mad at him for his help but still needs it. It’s complicated and I’ll got over it more in her section. But Martin is a complicated guy with his fair share of mommy issues but a good hear and is way smarter than people give him credit for.
Sasha- The Mayor
Sasha has a lot of big changes to her story. First off she is a very competent mayor working more with Jon kinda like a business partner than blind follower. She runs all of the day to day events and basics of running the town. She does all the business and Jon does Halloween essentially. She likes her job and is very good at what she does, and unlike the NMBC mayor she is pretty much the leader of Halloween town. Sasha’s other face the one she flips to is actually Not-Sasha. She looks and acts completely different but everyone still treats her like the same person. It’s a running gag that Non-Sasha looks a little different every time Sasha flips between faces but nobody ever says anything
Daisy- Zero
Yes I know I’m jumping out of order but it will make sense soon. Daisy and Zero was one part actually story stuff and other parts i thought it would be funny. In terms of story she acts like her season 4 self. She’s Jon’s best friend ever since he he found her as a wandering sprit, vicious and more wolf than woman. Think season 5 daisy but if Jon was actually able to save her. Alongside the help of Daisy’s old partner Jon used whatever Halloween magic he has to pull Daisy’s humanity back to the surface. Im thinking they got stuck in the coffin again, I think that would be pretty funny and very fitting. Anyway Daisy is a werewolf shapeshifting spirit, think of her wolf form as a more muscular Zero. Her nose glows in her human form too :). She’s essentially who Jon confides in and calls him and idiot but then tries to help. She has more of a role than Zero did in the film since she can speak. Daisy was also not very impressed at being the one to lead the sleigh but she did it anyway because Jon’s her best friend and she loves him.
Ok so Tim, Melanie and Basira are going to be grouped together because they are the trick or treaters.
In this case the story was changed a lot so the. Characters were picked not really for personality or relations. But more for continuity so they are all more or less themselves just kinda in Halloween town
Tim- Lock
Tim looks good in Red let’s be for real. He would also make the “devilish good looks” jokes you know he would
Melanie- Shock
Melanie gives off the vibes of someone who would dabble in Wicca, like she definitely owns tarot cards. And besides “ the blind witch” is metal as hell and I think she would appreciate it.
Basira- Barrel
I’m not sure what exactly Barrel is but the bones thing he has going on creates a nice tie back to Jack. Which in turn creates a connection between Jon and Basira which could tie back to the two of them saving Daisy. Basira also sees things for what they are, a sort of “bare bones” logic if you would.
Anyway so the reason the 3 of them are listed together is because in this AU they do still work for Oogie Boogie but it’s not consensual. They are all tied to him via a contract and are forced to do his bidding. Tho they often half ass it as a way to get back at him. Melanie is the one to figure out how to leave and that’s when she blinds herself to get out. I’ll go over the implications of this and what it does later in another post.
On to the villain: if you think the whole contract thing sounded familiar you’d be right
Elias Bouchard- Oogie Boogie
He’s mean he’s green, and Elias would love having a gambling aesthetic let’s not kid ourselves. Elias is also the main character villain of TMA and I think it’s fitting that he also gets the main villain role here as well. I imagine his lair to be less giant roulette table and more bureaucratic mansion. Essentially he built his own Magnus institute in the outskirts of town and people can come and test their luck. More of a poker style table than a role of the dice. He acts all fair but instead of eating people he traps their souls in contracts. He is also made of eyeballs instead of bugs and the ones in his head are called Jonah Magnus.
Peter Lukas- Santa
Yes yes I know what this implies but it’s funny. Also I didn’t know any TMA character that would properly fit this role so why not give it to the guy who probably looks like him. I also think Christmas is partially a conduit of The Lonely. I mean what’s lonelier than spending Christmas by yourself. I don’t even celebrate Christmas and I do feel a little left out sometimes hearing how everyone gets together with the their family and I’m not. What I’m trying to say is Christmas makes a lot of people lonely and I can see the Lukas’ taking advantage of that. It’s also really funny to imagine an Oogie Santa divorce going on. Like I’ll give them more scenes because I can imagine the tension and it’s so funny.
Others 
Martin’s mother- Doctor Finkelstein
This one is more due to character circumstances but I think it’s a very complex dynamic. We know from TMA that Martin’s mother hated the fact that he had to take care of her and I wanted to play on that here. In this world she made Martin this the help of a lab assistant who then ran off after an accident leaving her sick and mostly alone ( yes I know sally has a different backstory in long live the pumpkin queen but I haven’t read the book so I’m sticking with just the movie cannon and my own thoughts). She needs Martins help with taking care of herself mostly but she hates him for it. Yelling and belittling him. But she also knows that without him she will probably die so she holds on to Martin tight. Getting mad when he runs off, guilt tripping him into coming back. She eventually does make a new assistant but Martin cuts off all contact with her. He makes a choice for himself and stands up to her and leaves.
Georgie- human?
Georgie was literally the hardest character to come up with because there is no good character to match her with that is majorly important to the plot but Georgie is a big character in TMA so she had to be here. So I came up with the idea of her being human paranormal investigator ( like in TMA except her podcast is her going out to explore places) and winding up in Halloween town. There is a side plot where she meets up with Melanie and helps her escape Elias’ contract. She has no fear due to the transference between worlds and as such is welcomed into Halloween Town. Although she finds herself starting to change and she isn’t sure if she’s still completely human.
All the other denizens are background TMA characters, or other holiday rulers like Nikola as the Easter bunny ( that one wasn’t a mistake capturing her, Tim just wanted a bit of revenge because she stole his brother. Danny isn’t dead just an egg painter now.) I’ll assign more people later
Since it’s getting into the holiday season I’m thinking about my Nightmare Before Christmas TMA au.
I’ve got nothing but a head full of ideas and I don’t know if anybody want to hear about it
But it’s going to be in the back of my mind for most of December
