Apparently Lionsgate is making a new Twilight TV series. Remain to be seen what's it about, whether it'll be a remake of the movies or something new. Say they went with something new, and they somehow choose an idea that you've already done in a fic. Which fic idea do you: a) just really want to see adapted on screen? And b) thinks that they will do justice the most?
(Muffin can also answer this if they want and if their answer's different than yours)
Well, the trouble is I don't really have any particular fics I want to see on screen. More importantly, I don't imagine they would appeal much to any studios. You want something you can sell to producers, but "The romantic male lead commits cold blooded murder because his quasi-brother was too weak. His quasi-brother killed his wife back in the day, the romantic lead is fine with that and the quasi-brother recruits the murdered man's parents into his harem. Then half the cast goes to Egypt without really accomplishing anything. Please give me millions of dollars so I can make this." would not fly.
(The above, for the record, is The Less Than Immaculate Conception by myself and @theoriginalcarnivorousmuffin.
Painting Red Madonnas by Muffin wouldn't fare much better, "No the male and female lead don't get together. The loveable goof is really homophobic, and the closest thing we have to a love interest murders a toddler and his own son in front of his horrified wife. Help me get in touch with investors.")
The Bleach in the Brain (by me) miniseries and its sequel miniseries, Leech in the Rain (by @theoriginalcarnivorousmuffin and me) would require somebody saying, not only "I want to focus on child abuse and grooming where the white girl protagonist is attacked by a Native American man and disabled at the end", but "I want to depict a bisexual male character whose male former lover, a gay man, is falsely accused of rape, and then he gets sexually assaulted by his son" as well. Also the really hot chick protagonist who looks twenty-five is actually six years old so she can't be marketed as a sexy female character. And then getting funding for all of this.
(They might decide to make a show inspired by Jessica Stanley in those fics, but... god they'd change everything.)
And Then There Were None, same problem. "Please give us money to produce Bella Swan murdering her family for no reason."
Dark Fantasies/Writhing Coils, maybe if I got Guillermo del Toro extremely drunk and called him a coward. Except it would still need funding, so no.
The Invitation, only if the ending is completely changed. Too much of a downer otherwise.
Nebuchadnezzar's Dream would have the producers nodding along until I get to the part where the big battle happens entirely off screen, instead the audience gets to see a gay sex scene. "Full penetration," I say, tapping my powerpoint slide with a stick for emphasis.
"Let's limit her involvement," they whisper to one another, and then I don't sell them the rights so Nebuchadnezzar's Dream is condemned to development hell.
A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to London is too out there, and How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bacchanals even more so.
The Man Who Would Be King bonus, since Muffin and I got talking about it: might fly, if briefly. It's more viable than the Twilight ideas (we've got an attractive, young, and sympathetic protagonist, an enemies-to-lovers slow burn, and our male romantic lead hasn't actually murdered anybody on screen so viewers can pull a Damon Salvatore and insist he's alright), trouble is it's not going to stay that way. For now, it's shockingly viable and gets my nomination.
My vote for Twilight fic to be televised, however, assuming I win a billion dollar and nobody can stop me...
For the Love of a Woman.
Everybody loses.

Piggybacking on my last Twilight post... I think the biggest failings with the characters tend to be that their backgrounds don't really matter.
All the little details that make up the setting of your characters' lives and formative years shouldn't be treated like they're just fun facts-- something you honestly might as well not know. Those things should matter, influence all your characters' interactions and morals and the ways they view the world...
And who I see this failing most egregiously with is Jacob.
There are people on here who are much more qualified to talk about how Meyer's treatment of the Native American characters and their storylines tends to lean towards the racist side of things...
And not to overlook that, but the part that really drives me crazy would still stand even if Jacob was white.
Here is a profile of Jacob's life: His mother died when he was pretty young, both his older siblings left town as soon as they were able, leaving him to live in (what's basically insinuated to be) poverty, taking care of his disabled father.
Do you remember any of those things getting more than a passing mention?
And Meyer felt the need to pass off Bella's friendship with Jacob as this mystical connection they couldn't quite explain? They have so much they should have bonded over, both being forced to grow up too fast to take care of their parents.
I feel like, with basically all the characters and story points, all the pieces are there to make everything make sense, be less of a romanticized abusive mess than it was, bring the characters to their full potential... She just needed a much better editor or something to bring it all together.

The Midnight of Despair | Volturi Kings x fem!reader
As you all can see, I got carried away just a little with this one. It was supposed to be a one-shot, but I'm planning at least part two, since this part got soooo long.
Anyway!
I hope you'll enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing. Sorry for any grammatical errors, as well as any confusion with syntax. English isn't my native but I always try my best! Constructive criticism is always welcomed.
Please, pay attention to the warnings. If you are uncomfortable with any of the topics, simply do not read.
I pictured here Aro from the films (as Michael Sheen is perfect for this part), Caius from the films (maybe a little bit older) and Marcus from the films but his younger self (maybe 20?). Also, I wrote at one point that [Y/N] has blonde hair and blue eyes but it just helped me with the descriptions. Obviously, you can picture characters according to your wishes.
Warnings: Rape (graphic description!), Depression, PTSD, Swear words, Forced Pregnancy
Word count: 7816 (!)
Summary: [Y/N] and Bella are childhood friends. They were always there for each other. [Y/N] had tough times and struggles with everyday life. Bella faces depression after Edward had left her. [Y/N] tries to get her going and alive. One day [Y/N] is raped and gets pregnant with the rapist. Not long after that it turns out that Edward got himself into the mess with Volturi. [Y/N], even traumatized and in pieces, will not let Bella go without her supervision to Italy. What is going to happen when [Y/N] will stay at Volterra? Is she really predestined to be Kings' mate? Is she going to have her baby or abort the pregnancy? Will the trauma go away or is she going to struggle for a long time?
Tumblr media
You thought that the death of your parents was enough to break you. As they say, if you’re not willing to bend, you’ll break. And you did. After all.
Ever since you’ve been born, everything went downhill. You were a weak child and within your first five years of life, you’ve gone through countless surgeries. Something was terribly wrong with your spine and the doctors were worried that you wouldn't be able to move normally.
You got your ‘happily ever after’. After fourteen surgeries and taking more than a dozen medications, you could be considered healthy. It made you remember the better part of your childhood. At this point, you couldn’t even recall constant visits at hospital or ingesting enormous amount of drugs.
What you could recall, was the agony that your mom went through while dying of pancreatic cancer. You tried to help her but there was literally no help available. Sure, chemo did help, but only a little tiniest bit. When someone got this type of cancer, there was only one way to die. It was neither pretty, nor pleasant.
So your mother died when you were sixteen. Your father followed shortly after her. He suffered from severe depression after your mother’s passing, but it was the car accident that got him killed. You were just before your graduation.
You’ve finished school and tried to go on. It wasn’t exactly an easy path to follow. You had the feeling that fate had made you its whore and the devil knows his jokes. Somehow, you got through college. You used the money from your dad's insurance policy entirely for your education. It was the only thing you could do to secure your future.
At 22, you got a job at the same hospital where doctor Cullen worked. You were a nurse on the paediatrics ward, but the hospital in Forks was so small that you often found yourself working with doctor Cullen. He was always kind to you and exuded a fatherly warmth. However, like everyone from Cullen family, he was slightly withdrawn from all conversations and social activities.
You noticed a slight change in his behaviour when your best friend, Bella, started dating with the doctor's youngest son, Edward. Carlisle has been talking to you more and more. The conversations weren't long – more like short exchanges of words, whether about his family’s well-being or any leisure activities both of you devoted yourselves after work. Nevertheless, you started calling each other by the others’ given name.
You met with Bella on average once a week. Sure, you were four years older than her, but the age difference never was a problem. You always got along well, and age had nothing to do with it. With time, you've watched Bella thrive during her relationship with Edward and you've enjoyed her happiness. Your relationship had loosened a little, but you didn't hold it against her. With Forks being so small, you could easily meet Bella on the street or in a shop and talk to her about silly things or this boyfriend of hers. It made her blush furiously every time you brought up the topic, especially if Edward waited nearby.
And then, just like that, something snapped. Of course, you heard about their huge quarrel about god knows what, and that Bella wanted to make herself scarce immediately. Charlie called you that night if , by any chance, you could talk some sense into her. Bella not once picked up her phone and then she got her stupid ass into the hospital. And magically reconciled with Edward. That’s when you started to be suspicious. Something wasn’t right about this situation, at all, but you let it be.
Time passed and even though you liked Carlisle as a colleague, you became gradually suspicious about him and his family. Things that you noticed were little, almost insignificant, but something told you that there’s more than meets the eye. Bella herself began to limit contact with you, mainly due to her lack of time for Edward. But when you did get a chance to meet and talk, the subject of Edward still came to the surface.
You tried to understand your friend, while not understanding her at all. You also were in love once but your mother's illness and then your father's death took too much of a toll on you, to experience your first love in such an intense way. It was incomprehensible to you, how Bella could lose her head so much for this boy. And yet you tried, tried to be there when Bella needed you the most. Simply because you were a good friend and also because you needed a friend.
You were left alone, out in this world, with no one to care about and no one to love. Only Bella, as present and, most importantly, alive person, connected you with your childhood and good memories from that time. She was the only one left. You considered her your family and you didn’t want to lose her too. Not after all you’ve been through.
At the day of her birthday, you saw her quickly after her school. You gave her a small gift and you both agreed to meet a day later because Edward's family had invited her to stay at their place. After that birthday, everything changed. The next day Bella went missing. You went to her house exactly as agreed and Charlie said she had been gone for a few hours.
When Bella was found later that evening by Sam, Charlie's colleague, everything became frighteningly clear. The Cullens had moved out of town. Apparently, Carlisle had gotten a lucrative job somewhere else. That didn't surprise you, he was a really great doctor. But how could he not mention a word of it to you? Not that you were so close to him but you considered him a good comrade of yours and moving out of town like this, without a word… It seemed extremely strange to you.
The months that followed were very similar. Bella fell into a deep depression and apathy. You came to visit her, but during these visits it was mainly you who talked. You talked about work, about your next qualification course and about the anniversary of your mum's death. Bella mostly remained silent. Charlie confirmed that, yes, she did go to school, but apart from that, she sat in her room all day and stared at the window.
You knew from Charlie that she was slowly trying to reconnect with her friends. And that she was spending a lot of time with that boy from the reservation. You were happy because it meant that your friend was slowly coming back to life. Maybe not back to normal, not yet, but at least she was trying. And you were trying too. To be a good friend, a good sister to her.
You started talking more during your visits at her house. Unlike before, the subject of Edward didn't exist. It was as if he had never existed. So you did not mention him at all. Bella was healing, slowly, just as you were, when both of your parents died. She was there for you, even if you could only talk to her on the phone because, at that time, she permanently lived with Renee.
For the first time in several months, you hoped that things would somehow work out. In your life, the moments when you were truly happy never lasted long. It was the same this time. One day, you went to Port Angeles to buy new clothes for work. Yours were still from your university days, worn out, but not so long ago you were short of money and preferred to spend it on other things rather than buying new clothes.
By the time you got back to your car it was pretty late. The car park was deserted. On your way to the car, a man accosted you and, before you knew it, he had hit you on the head with something heavy. When you woke up, you were in a squalid alley. The man was pressing you against a wall with all his strength. You only realised what he was going to do, when you felt a cool breeze brush against your bare legs. Your trousers and underwear were almost at your ankles. You started to squirm, trying to free yourself from his iron grip. You heard his quiet giggle next to your ear.
"Don't resist angel, I’ll be quick," he whispered in your ear, pawing at your breasts with his left hand. You felt sick to your stomach. He had hideous breath, as if he had been drinking for three days, then puked and drank again. You started to jerk harder, to pull away, but it only caused you pain. He held tight, pushing against you with his whole body and whispering disgusting things under his breath. When he finally entered you, he tugged hard on your hair. He made no effort to cover your mouth because you didn't even try to scream. You were out of breath, unable to say a word. You were afraid that he would kill you. You wanted him to go away so that the pain would end and you could finally go home.
When he finished, he let you go and just walked away. You stood there, half naked, frozen and shaken, for god knows how long. You were unable to move. When you felt his semen running down your leg, you finally managed to vomit. Your cheek was bruised and scratched from how hard he pressed you against the rough wall. You wanted to go home, but you didn't have the strength to get up from the street.
You weren't sure how much time had passed, but you finally got up. You got dressed and walked to your car. Everything hurt. You didn't want to, but you knew, you had to go to the hospital. You could not leave it like that. He had already hurt you, but what about the others? You couldn't let that happen. All the way to the hospital in Port Angeles your hands were trembling. Returning to that memory, you didn't even remember how you got to the ER.
At the hospital, they took care of you properly. They called the police. Two female doctors were there for a medical examination. The nurses were very nice. You tried to put on a good face. You've thought about how your sexual experiences has been so far. Your first sex, like most people's, was terrible. Your boyfriend was two years older, you were 17 and it all went wrong. You were in pain. He didn't seem too happy either. Up until you graduated from high school, you tried to make it work somehow, but there were never any fireworks. It wasn't until college that you discovered the good side of sex.
However, you never had sex with someone you loved more than life. You haven't met anyone like that. And you were sure that sex with that person would be unique and exceptional. Until now, of course. Lying on a hospital bed, you felt exploited. Abused. Filthy. Humiliated. How can one do something like that to another person? The nurse asked if someone could come and pick you up, and you didn't have much of a choice. You called Bella. While she was on her way to the hospital, you let the police officers question you. You mechanically slurred the words as if it wasn't about you at all. As if it wasn’t you that had been raped.
As soon as you saw Bella, you were no longer able to pretend that nothing had happened. You were sobbing and she hugged you tight, telling you that he would pay for it. You weren't so sure about that. You wanted to be home as soon as possible, so you went back to Forks. Bella said nothing while driving because there was nothing that could be said. In the shower, you scrubbed yourself so hard with the pumice that you thought you had taken off all your skin. To your absolute disgust, you could still feel his touch on you. You could hear him whisper against your ear and you could smell his hideous breath.
A week has passed. Bella texted you every day, and you were able to hang out almost every other day. She was a good sister, a great friend. She didn't want to leave you alone in this. Despite being offered leave, you went to work. You didn't want to keep thinking about what happened. Each time, after taking a bath, you were unable to look in the mirror. On the first day, right after scrubbing, you decided to take a look. You had bruises on your stomach, thighs, buttocks and breasts. Your forearms were scraped, your cheek was scratched and bruised. The worst of it was that you had been bleeding for days. The gynaecologist said, it was due to too much force, and the fact that you actively resisted for a while.
You were trying to get back to normal. You went to work, you were seeing Bella and taking your course. But no one could touch you. You didn't even shake hands to say hello. You didn't care at all, you couldn’t endure a touch anymore. Not in any way. You didn't get your period, but the doctor said it could happen. It was a shock to the body and a lot of pain to bear. Also, you bled for almost a week after the rape.
You started to be afraid to go out alone. When in a shop or at work, if anyone approached you from behind, you started panicking and hyperventilating. You couldn’t walk ordinarily on the street. You looked behind every two or three minutes to assure yourself that nobody was following you. Your hands trembled while driving the car or making the tea. Your eyes were starting to water as soon as someone even tried to touch you. You had nightmares and you started losing your mind because of this.
When your period did not come in the following month, you began to worry. Surely you couldn't get pregnant with this... monster. Not you. Of course you have checked. You would not be able to live in such ignorance. It turned out that yes, you indeed were pregnant. When the doctor confirmed it, you fainted. Not you, not like that. You didn't even think you'd ever be a mum. Let alone like this. You hated your body even more and the fact that it had betrayed you in such a villainous way.
You knew this path led to madness. You were in an even worse mental condition, than after losing your mum; than after dad died in the accident. You have shed countless tears. You didn't want to abort this pregnancy, and at the same time you wanted it with all your heart. If only you were able to defend yourself. Break away from him and run as far away as possible. It would never have happened. But you were weak and didn't even have the energy to scream. Would it have made any difference though?
You were constantly beating yourself up with thoughts about whether you should keep the baby, when something completely bizarre happened. Jacob called you that he had to rescue Bella after jumping off a cliff. Annoyed, you got in your car and drove up to the Swans' house. Bella's car wasn't there, so you waited patiently in yours. When they arrived, you were boiling with rage.
“Have you lost your fucking mind?!” you shouted, as you got out of the car.
Bella rolled her eyes. She looked miserable. Her eyes were bloodshot and she was soaked through. She smiled weakly towards you.
“It was just for fun, you know” she muttered, as you hugged her tightly. It was your first closer contact since…
“It was just for sport,” she tried again.
You snorted in annoyance.
“Yeah, sure, get inside before you get sick.”
As you both stepped onto the porch, Jacob unexpectedly grabbed Bella's wrist. They shared a look.
“Are you sure about this?”
“Yes. You can go now, Jake,” she muttered, trying to disentangle herself from his grasp.
You smiled weakly at him, while Bella was looking for her keys.
“Cool, I'll take care of her until Charlie gets back. Thanks for saving her stupid ass,” you said. Jacob smiled amused, but still seemed slightly tense.
“No problem. Always at your service,” he joked. “Well... See ya around,” he said goodbye and walked away to his car.
You walked into the house with Bella.
“What were you thinking? You could have died” you muttered under your breath, stripping off your jacket.
“Well...actually I wasn't thinking, like, at all” Bella admitted, smiling apologetically at you.
“Next time think about Charlie,” you said, hugging her once more. Your body screamed that you shouldn't do that, but you were glad that Bella was okay.
While Bella changed into dry clothes, you made hot tea for both of you. Someone knocked on the door. The knocking was not from the front, but from the courtyard. You walked slowly to the door and opened it. Edward's sister, Alice, stood in front of you. You wouldn't have known what she looked like, if Bella hadn't shown you pictures of her. But other than that, you knew quite a bit about her, because when Bella was still with Edward, she couldn’t kept her mouth shut about Alice.
“Hi. Can I come in?” she asked politely. She tried to look normal, but there was something in her behaviour that made you nervous. You were about to reply, when Bella appeared in the kitchen.
“Alice!” she squealed, throwing herself around the brunette's neck. After a moment, she pulled away and looked at Alice in disbelief. "Are you really here? Or am I just dreaming this?" asked Bella.
It was your turn to roll the eyes.
“Of course she’s here” you said, now slightly annoyed. “Don’t be bothered by me, please, proceed to whatever you wanted to say.”
Your sarcastic tone was not intended, but justified. You were slowly beginning to get fed up with this family's games. First they move out and turn Bella's life upside down, and now the big comeback? Something's not right here. Besides, at that moment, you weren't the right person to play with. You had enough problems of your own and your life was messed up enough. What you didn't know at that moment, was that everything was about to change fundamentally very soon.
Alice took no notice of you.
"Bella, listen. Edward thinks you committed suicide. He told me that he doesn't want to live either, so he is on his way to the Volturi to ask them for an execution."
You had no idea what she was talking about. Bella was terrified, and you didn't know what was going on here.
"What, who the fuck are Volturi? Did Edward get involved with some cult? Also, how did he know Bella killed herself?" you asked, not understanding anything of what Alice was talking about earlier.
"We have to go to Italy, Bella,” she ignored you once more. “If they refuse him, I'm not sure what he'll do" as Alice spoke, Bella began to gather herself quickly to leave.
You grabbed her hand.
"And where do you think you are going?" you asked in disbelief. Bella looked at you apologetically.
"Y/N, I have to go. They're going to murder him. Just the fact that I'm alive will convince him."
You snorted in disbelief.
"You're dead serious? And can't you call him and tell him it's a misunderstanding? Besides, Bella, this guy ghosted you. He left you here, alone, with not one explanation and you want to fly to the other side of the world to save this dumb ass?" you asked, trying to take your mind off this ludicrous circumstance.
“Oh my god, we’ll take her with us if she’s not going to back down” said Alice in exasperation.
“And to your kind information, I won't back down. Your douchebag brother and the rest of your family turned her adrift. I was the one who pulled her out of her depression, and I will not let the exact same thing happen again because of any of you,”you hissed out in anger. You saw something in Alice's eyes that you considered to be admiration.
You looked at Bella expectantly.
“Y/N, I still love him. I cannot let this go” Bella whispered and you felt as your chest tightened. “Please…”
You heaved a heavy sigh.
“Okey, but I’m coming with you,” you decided and noticed that Alice's eyes were momentarily clouded with mist. You had no idea what was going on here, but you were sure that this whole affair with the Volturi, whoever the hell they were, didn't sound good.
After a few seconds, Alice looked at Bella, then at you and back at Bella.
“Get your coats, we have to go now,” she said.
“But Alice...” protested Bella.
“There's no time for that. We'll explain everything to her on the way. If we start now, we won't get out of here until noon” she muttered exasperatedly, walking out of the house. You looked at Bella.
“Bells, what's this all about?” you asked, and she just sighed quietly. You both quickly got your shoes on.
“We'll tell you on the plane but I'm afraid the Volturi won't like that a lot,” she said with worried expression on her face.
When you were at the airport waiting for a plane, you had countless questions in your head. Why the fuck Edward was pulling such nonsense? Why to be so dramatic about thing that didn’t even happen? Did this idiot really get involved in some sort of cult? And why was his sister so concerned about it that she decided to tell you ‘everything’, whatever needed to be said? However, the question that kept you wondering was who were the mysterious Volturi and what could they possibly resent about you?
One thing you were sure of. There hadn't been a moment since the sexual assault when you hadn't thought about it. And now your thoughts were occupied by the mysterious Volturi and you immensely wanted to find out what it was really all about.
⋎⋎⋎
On a plane ride, you found out that vampires are no fairy tales and your best friend was in love with one. It was a wild thought but, as soon as Alice started taking, you knew it wasn’t a joke. You were given so much information at once that you were unable to respond to anything as Alice finished her long monologue. You had a drink of water, although at that moment you very much regretted not being able to drink whisky.
“Okey, lets say I get most of this…” you said with a low voice, trying to be careful with what you’re saying. “But can you tell me who are Volturi and why would they want to decapitate Edward?” you asked, looking sideways, afraid that someone might hear.
Alice let out a sigh.
“The Volturi are the equivalent of the justice system in our world. They are the ones who created the laws that help us hide from the world, and they are the ones who enforce them. They consider themselves… sort of royalty, as their leaders – Aro, Caius and Marcus – are over three thousand years old.”
If you were to be honest, you were not very good at processing this information. Three thousand years? The first thought that popped into your mind was that they must be immensely lonely. You were sure you wouldn't want to live so many years without having anyone worthy by your side. Later, Alice quickly summarised all the laws that every vampire must obey. They weren't complicated, but when you thought about it a little longer, some of them weren't so easy to follow.
“I don't want to whine, or come off as ungrateful or anything like that, but... didn't you just break the law? By telling me about you?” you asked cautiously, not knowing if what you were saying was right.
Alice sighed again, this time heavier than before.
“It’s complicated” she said succinctly, which interested Bella, who was eating some kind of sandwich.
“This vision of yours was about [Y/N]?” she asked Alice curiously. Alice merely nodded. When Alice told you about her gift, and this was at the very beginning of the story, you found it hard to believe. It wasn’t so unbelievable now.
"Eat something," Alice said to you. "It's good for the baby" she added after a moment, seeing you hesitate. You swallowed heavily, as you suddenly felt sick. The memories of that evening came back.
Alice smiled softly, as if knowing exactly what you were thinking about. And this was supposed to be Edward's gift.
"Do you want to know the sex of the baby?" she asked, and your eyes almost fell out.
"Can you predict that?" you asked in disbelief. She and Bella both smiled. Alice nodded vigorously.
"Yeah, sure. I can't predict if the baby... you know, if it will be born, however, the sex I can tell you.”
You pondered on it, while eating your sandwich. The nausea eased, when you could think of something different than that unlucky evening. Before you knew it, you fell asleep and Alice woke you up when you landed in Italy. As Alice drove the stolen car, you tried to admire the beautiful views of Tuscany outside your window. When you had almost reached Volterra, you thought how wonderful it would be to live here.
⋎⋎⋎
This stupid boyfriend of hers. That was all his fault. Of course, Bella made it at the last minute. You, together with Alice, went to abandon the stolen car somewhere. Although, you had a feeling that you would be returning the exact same way. You tried to reassure yourself. Of course you’ll be returning. Or maybe not? If you were honest, you gave no fucks about it. You had no one who’d wait for you at home, your parents died, you were brutally raped not so long ago, and you didn’t even know if you wanted to keep the baby. Maybe dying today isn’t such a bad idea?
You have reached the square and entered the palace at a very convenient time. The guy who looked like a wardrobe and the other one, much shorter than him and blonde, looked like they were about to murder Edward in this instant. And actually, you felt like you could’ve murdered Edward too. Barely Alice closed the door, you didn't even glance at the two of them, but immediately began to scold Edward for what he had done. To hell with his gift!
“You stupid, immature, irresponsible, reckless and selfish bastard!” you started descriptively, and even Bella was taken aback by your behaviour. Alice raised her eyebrows and two other vampires looked at themselves and then straight at you. Edward had no time for any reply. “If you ever, I repeat, if you ever again do something as childish and irresponsible as expose my best friend to a nervous breakdown and months of depression, I promise you, here and now, that I will decapitate you myself. You're old, and yet a five-year-old child is smarter than you. You utter imbecile,” you hissed with hatred.
Of course, your malice towards him was temporary, but it's been a long time since anyone has angered you like that. The shorter man laughed under his breath, and the other one, who looked like a wardrobe, said:
“Can we keep her? I like the way she’s ruling the roost.”
He fell silent, as a short, pretty blonde woman entered the room. Her face was like a child's, but her eyes... bright red, staring at no one else but you.
“Jane” greeted her Edward. She didn’t even look at him.
“Aro sent me to see what was taking so long” she said. The atmosphere immediately became tense. Edward and Alice seemed to stiffen at the sound of Aro's name. You were curious but not frightened. Not yet.
Jane turned and immediately started walking towards the long corridor. Bella just looked at Edward, and you glanced at Alice.
“Do what she says,” she muttered to you and you both kept pace with the couple in the front.
Needless to say, it was the most stressful and also the most terrifying lift ride you've ever experienced. Not to add the creepy music background. You guessed it was supposed to make you feel better, but instead it made your whole stomach go up to your throat. You were standing right in the middle, next to Bella, holding Alice's hand. The vampire, who looked like a wardrobe, kept looking at you. You took a deep breath to calm your nerves. Puking on someone's shoes isn't going to make this situation any better. Out of the corner of your eye, you saw Edward smile. Yeah, the situation you’ve found yourself in was extremely funny indeed.
When you reached the main chamber, you didn't know what to look at first. At the vampires standing against every wall? Not very wise of you. At the marble floor? Nothing to be afraid of for now, so no. You probably should have looked at the three thrones in front of you and the vampires that sat on them, but instead, you were interested in the Latin phrase engraved between the columns above you.
You glanced at your company. Edward looked as if he was about to die. Maybe that's what's going to happen? Alice looked very out of sorts, and Bella, well, she was hanging onto Edward's arm and also looked like she was about to leave this world for good. She was unnaturally pale and you though she was going to faint any second. But it never happened. The rest of the room felt extremely comfortable. For a moment, you turned your head towards the boy who called out to Jane. You did not let go of Alice's hand but you did not feel any anxiety. Curiosity prevailed, mainly because you had come to terms with the fact of your imminent death.
“Sister! Sent you out to get one and you bring back two. And two halves,” the boy who’s just called Jane his sister probably was talking about me and Bella. “Such a clever girl,” he praised her like he wasn’t his sister but someone else entirely. You sighed heavily. Maybe they’re also into incest-kind-of-relationships? Who knows. You looked above your head again. There was a short inscription “vita brevis, ars longa” but you knew the rest of it. Latin was obligatory in every medical school.
When the man from the middle throne stood up, it was to him that you directed all your attention. You felt that something about him was... you had no idea how to describe it, but you felt a strange pull towards him. As if some invisible force had power over you.
“What a happy surprise!” he said pointedly, wide smile on his face. “Bella is alive after all. Isn’t that wonderful?” he said cheerfully, while walking towards Edward. At that exact moment, you realised that you had managed to get yourself into a huge mess. The lair of the vampires. And you were only a weak human. Recently raped. With a baby under your heart.
As soon as the man stepped down from the platform, you were unable to take your eyes off him. His posture, the way he spoke, his demeanour, it all made you feel incredible respect for him. You’ve never felt this secure and calm in your entire life.
“I love a happy ending,” the man said, while he took Edwards’ hand into his. “They’re so rare.”
You were wondering why this man took Edward’s hand in the first place. You did not have to wait long for an explanation.
“Aro can read every thought that I’ve ever had. With one touch” Edward explained to Bella but you were listening too. Very carefully listening. You’ve finally managed to know the name of the vampire. Aro. It suited him well. Although his eyes were a little scary, you were delighted with his charisma and approach to guests. You realised that indeed, they are called the royal family for a reason.
Aro smiled to Edward.
“Her blood appears to you so much,” he whispered, and you had a hard time hearing his words well. Aro’s gaze rested on Bella. “It makes me thirsty. How can you stand to be so close to her?” he asked Edward, who was feeling more and more uncomfortable. You could tell by the fact that he was practically standing like a statue.
“It is not without difficulty,” muttered Edward from behind his clenched teeth.
You swallowed hard, as Aro turned his gaze to Bella again but he smiled.
“Ah, I can see that” he said pleased, moving away from Edward and focusing all his attention on Bella.
“Although you’re a quite soul-reader yourself, Edward, you cannot read Bella’s thoughts” he made a rather dramatic pause, still staring stubbornly at your best friend. “Fascinating” he said, not hiding his curiosity.
You managed to look elsewhere, than at Aro. The man on the throne to your left seemed unusually agitated. He fixed his gaze on you, as if his life depended on it, yet you did not feel uncomfortable. You were surprised to discover that an invisible force was also drawing you towards him. You almost took a step forward. You tried to remember the man from a few minutes ago. He looked as if he had died in that chair a few centuries ago. And now he seemed genuinely moved.
“Brother” the man spoke to Aro, as he got up from his throne. Indeed, there seemed to be an urgency to the matter, for Aro turned around in surprise. You had the impression that the man from the throne had not risen from it for a long time.
“You knew about this, and you brought her anyway?” you heard Edward's quiet whisper, directed at Alice.
Alice looked at her brother, then at you and finally at a curious Aro.
"It would have happened anyway. Better sooner than later" Alice murmured mysteriously. You still didn't know what it was even about. The third man, the one on your right, did not share his brothers' patience.
"Aro, let's hurry this up, Heidi will be here soon, and we don't want to frighten our guests" he said ominously, grinning like a madman. You were far from solving this riddle, but as soon as you looked at him, you felt the same attraction and enigmatic pulling as towards the other two.
Aro took his brother's hand in his own and you could see that his eyes would have lit up with happiness if they could.
“Ah, my dear Marcus! What an exceptional news!” intoned Aro cheerfully, heading towards you. He was slow in his movements, exactly so that you would not be frightened by him. All his movements were framed by an incredible grace.
“My dear, if I may, what is your name?” he asked, coming closer to you. You were unable to take your eyes off him. It was exactly, as if he had hypnotised you, only the feeling was more addictive. You didn't have to have a gift or to be a vampire to know that. For a split second, you ran out of breath and just stared into his red irises.
“My name is [Y/N]” you said, with your voice trembling, as your throat tightened hard under the intense emotions. You couldn't believe it was really happening. Maybe it was just a dream? Maybe these three beautiful men are just a figment of your imagination? You didn't even want to think about the fact that it might not be true.
Aro smiled encouragingly, while looking at you with all the attention that he’d possibly give you. You felt like nothing more was more important than you to him at that exact moment.
"It is an incredible pleasure to meet you, [Y/N]. I am Aro, but you already know that.”
The smile never left his face and during this brief exchange of words, neither of you took your eyes off the other. You felt that the atmosphere in the room had changed. Aro extended his alabaster hand in an inviting gesture.
“May I, my dear?” he asked you politely.
You gulped. Of course, you wanted to show him that you didn't want to give away their secret. You wanted to show him the strange bond you felt towards him and his brothers. However, there were things you didn't want him to see. You felt deep down inside that this attraction had an explanation and you didn't want him to see... Not that. You’d felt exposed and extremely embarrassed. There was also another issue. His hand. You'd hugged Bella twice since it happened and just now you were holding Alice's hand. You didn't know if, when you touched him, you'd start screaming or crying because you were so afraid of someone else's touch.
Yet, his hand looked so inviting, almost familiar, as if you'd already had the chance to touch it before. Aro himself showed no impatience. He waited, still gazing into your blue irises with his crimson eyes. You extended your hand towards him, at first cautiously, and then with a little more confidence. You took a deep breath, before your fingers made contact. When it happened, you felt as if you had come home after many years of wandering. He closed your hand in his, just as he had done with Edward's. His skin was cold, but he handled you extremely gently. You stared into his eyes as he looked at your thoughts and memories of your whole life. You knew instantly when he was done because he smiled sadly at you. He squeezed your hand gently in his.
"Never again, my love. Never again," he assured passionately, and then he leaned down to place a kiss on your hand. It was so light and as gentle as a breeze on a summer day. You couldn't help but smile.
Aro clapped his hands. He was clearly pleased with what had just happened between you.
"Aro, will you explain to me what's going on? I'm sick of waiting," said the nervous brother, who was the only one with blond hair. Aro smiled widely and turned towards him.
"Ah, Caius, you'll never guess. Finally, after so many years, our mate has honoured us with her presence" he said overjoyed and Caius frowned in awe. You were already able to tell that this did not happen often. Marcus, on the other hand, was sitting on his throne, smiling, still looking in your direction. You didn't miss the glances of the other vampires either. Was it some sort of celebration when Marcus was smiling?
“What does that mean?” it was Bella who snapped that question. Aro immediately appeared by her side. He gently stroked her hair, pulling an unruly strand behind her ear. You felt the sting of jealousy, when he touched her face. You should be the one asking that question and not her.
“Ah, and dear Isabella. What to do with you,” he wondered aloud, as if asking others for advice. “As I have far more important matters to deal with....” he began, looking directly at you. “I’d love to see if you’re an exception to my gift as well,” he whispered to Bella, extending his hand towards her. She didn't have much choice, did she? She took his hand, a little hesitantly, but after a short while Aro moved away.
“Interesting” he muttered. “I see nothing.”
“You already know what you’ll do with her, Aro” said Marcus, his eyes never leaving your person. “Just do it, as we want to know our little angel a bit more.”
You looked at Bella for a moment. She was terrified, not only with her own case, but also with yours. You have already guessed that you are not going anywhere. They would never let you out of their hands. Aro knew perfectly well that you didn't even have anything to go back to. Of course, you had plenty of questions, but you were sure it wasn't about your case now. Just about Bella's situation and what the Cullens had done, or rather what they hadn't done. However, you guessed it, Bella was afraid you wouldn't get out of here alive, and at the same time, you were worried about the exact same thing but about her.
Aro was smiling continuously.
“I have an idea” he said, after a long while. He approached Alice this time. “Would you be so kind, dear, and show me if you saw Bella's transformation in your vision?”
You were smart enough to know that it wasn’t a request. Alice undid her glove and boldly gave Aro her hand. He was absent for a moment and then smiled again. You were impressed by the aura he spread around himself. When he smiled, you felt like smiling too. You still had the impression that it was only a dream, and simultaneously you were sure that it was really happening. Aro's touch was definitely real, you couldn’t forget his cool hands embracing your own.
“Ah, lovely. I know everything now,” he declared. You and Bella probably looked similarly confused, but you weren't the least bit concerned and she was as pale as a sheet.
Aro turned directly to Edward.
“As I have seen Isabella's transformation in Alice's vision, I can let you go with peace of mind, my dear young friends. I trust that a date will be set sooner, rather than later and that I will be able to see for myself, what your mate will be capable of, Edward. As for you, Isabella, you are promising immortal material and I hope your potential will not go to waste," he said, this time speaking directly to Bella.
She was still brave enough to look him in the eye.
“And what with [Y/N]? You never mentioned what will happen to her” she noticed, looking in your direction. You smiled gently to her.
“I’m staying here, Bella” you said calmly, trying to reassure her with your tone of voice that all shall be all right.
You saw pure admiration and joyousness on Aro’s face as you said that.
“Isn’t she remarkable, brothers?” he asked Marcus and Caius, who looked as if they had just received the most beautiful Christmas present.
Bella seemed to be thoroughly outrageous.
“You can’t be serious [Y/N]! You cannot stay here, please, come back with us. You cannot be here while you’re pregnant” she cried, holding your hand and looking at you with disbelief.
What she said made you very uncomfortable and extremely upset.
"Bella, I have nothing to go back to. My parents are dead. You knew that if Alice told me everything, it would have to be resolved somehow," you stated matter-of-factly, squeezing her hand in yours. "I can't go back there, Bells." Your throat tightened with despair as memories of recent events flooded inside your mind. You tried to hold back tears.
"I am a shadow of my former self. I'm afraid to leave the house alone to go shopping or to work. This paranoia is overwhelming me, Bella. I keep turning behind me to see if anyone is following me on the street. I cry at night, knowing that it doesn't change anything. And then there's this unfortunate baby," you sighed helplessly, trying not to burst with tears. "Even if I keep it, I don't want it to have a mother who's afraid to leave the house. I can't live like this, we both know that" you whispered, squeezing her hands in yours again.
“But you cannot possibly be mated with all three of them” Bella whispered with despair in her eyes. You only smiled, sensing that this sentence got on Kings’ nerves, especially Caius’s.
“I think it’s predestined, Bella. Just as you are destined to be with Edward, I do belong here, with my mates” you said cautiously, glancing at Aro and looking for approval in his eyes. He was only looking at you with delight, as he said nothing.
You saw that Bella had hard time processing such information, whilst Edward and Alice said nothing at all. You knew that Alice knew prior about this, and Edward could see the vision in her thoughts. You pulled Bella into a comfortable hug.
“Hey, sister, we don’t see each other the very last time. We’ll meet again. Probably in a different…condition but still.”
Bella looked devastated.
“You promise me that?” she asked warily, her tone full of hope. You smiled at her.
“Of course I do.” You kissed her cheek and caressed her long, brown hair. “We can call each other, you know. It’s not like I’m moving to the Moon,” you joked, to release the tension a bit. To your astonishment, everybody in the room laughed at that. It made you blush, just a little tiny bit.
After another farewell, in which this time you also included Alice and Edward (barely, because you were still mad at him) and an official farewell from Aro, who told them to give his friend kind regards from him, the guests left the chamber.
They left, and Aro was immediately by your side. He gently stroked your long blonde hair, but didn't touch a single piece of a skin. After the display of your memories, he probably knew very well that you did not wish any touch for the time being.
You still couldn't free yourself from under his spell and if you were to be honest, you didn't want to at all. Aro offered you his arm.
"I believe, we have much to discuss, my love."
You took his arm gratefully.
"I have a ton of questions," you admitted as you walked out of the chamber with Marcus and Caius slowly following you. You didn't need to look back, the strange bonds that drew you together informed you of their presence in a yet unknown way.
Aro, as usual, smiled magnificently.
"My dear, one thing at a time," he said in a gentle tone, as he patted your forearm with tenderness. When you entered the study with the round table, Aro immediately pushed back a chair for you.
"No one is to disturb us" you heard Caius' sharp tone as he closed the door behind you. You tried to feel comfortable and at ease. After all, this was your home from now on.

Twilight characters as random animals that I think are oddly fitting
(Also yes, I am roasting the animals as well)
Tumblr media
Edward: He would be a Cheetah. Now I know, seems like a cop out just because of his speed but hear me out. Cheetahs are, at face value, pretty cool. They used to be my favorite animal as a child, but then I grew up.
Cheetahs, through no fault of their own, are severely inbred. Now thats mainly because of poaching, but the cheetas anxiety also comes into play. In captivity, cheetahs are usually given emotional support dogs. I will admit it is cute but it negatively affects the population. Excluding one in the wild, cheetas can be to anxious to breed and thats not good for conservation efforts.
Cheetahs can hit up to 80 miles per hour in a couple of seconds. They are designed for fast running and agility. Their claws are similar to that of a dogs for better traction and they have elongated spines for longer strides. They have a thin build, long legs and a long tail for balance.
This has downsides though. Many times after making a kill, it will get stolen for them by larger predators. Thats right, they get absolutely bodied by the other animals. I should probably make these shorter but I'm on a rant now, so I guess this will be semi educational.
Throughout the series, we see Edward over estimated his abilities and value, constantly getting bodied by others. He's essentially a perfect mormon, though thats on S'meyers. He constantly judges others, dehumanizing them to their baser flaws, without doing any self reflecting. Him viewing himself as a monster doesn't really count to me. While he definitely hates himself, the only thing he is truly demonizing is being a vampire.
Tumblr media
Bella: Picking up from Edwards, Bella is a Chocolate Labrador. Yes, she is his therapy dog. I feel like this is really fitting for her. I know Golden retriever would make more sense, as thats the most common breed for service animals. However, I kind of focused on her appearance. Only at first though! I just know that Edward raved about her human qualities and that would pass over as animals as well. Her chocolate eyes and brown fur, very average and boring. Thats essentially Bella. Even Edward wasn't into her until he got a wiff. Labradors a very loyal dogs and while they have more personality than Bella, I just couldn't shake it. Their also very stupid. Ok that's kind of mean, they're not stupid but when it comes to love, then yeah they are stupid.
I used to have a lab, loved him to death, but god he was something else. Very much danger prone, from their own stupidity or their lack of survival instincts. I know that labs are almost aquatic. They love water, swimming, all that jazz. We can just say that bella has a few screws loose in her dna and is just "not like other labs."
Tumblr media
Rosalie: Now she was hard. There are quite a few animals that I think would fit for her. I'll list the other ones, but that one I went with is the Swan. Like Edward, seems a little on the nose, but I have my reasoning.
I was going to pick a predator for her, as she is shown to be very vengeful and viscous. I would have pick some type of cat, most likely a purebred, from a rich family. It could still work, but the swan just speaks to me on this one.
Swan's are known for being beautiful, graceful, and are pictured as the symbol of love. They are also very vain. Edward constantly brings up Rosalies vanity. She was constantly valued for her beauty as a human, so of course that crossed over in the transformation. She was raised to be married into wealth, she was used as a bargaining chip to increase the family's standing.
Rose has a very strong character and makes her opinions known. She's assertive and aggressive at times. She's not afraid to get dirty.
Swans mate for life and like geese, are known for being great parents. I was also going to choose geese as an option for the maternal instincts. I was wary at first because swans can be really aggressive. Like actually, you think geece are bad? Yikes bestie...
I was conflicted because swans are known for drowning dogs and sometimes people. However, I can actually see Rose drowning Bella. It's not that unbelievable lmao.
Tumblr media
Emmett: Now this one is just ironic. I only associate him with bears. Its inevitable, but picking a Grizzly or Black bear is too obvious. So I went a slightly different route...
So I was going to pick the Sun bear just because of looks alone. Like, I'm not exaggerating, it looks like someone wearing a bear costume. I don't think it fits him but I know for a fact that he would dress up as a sun bear and sneak into a zoo to see if anyone would notice. I'll put a pic of it here
Tumblr media
Like look at this thing. I have no words...
Anyway, what I picked was a Sloth Bear. Now Sloth bears are mostly nocturnal, which either way works consider vamps don't sleep. Their diet is also odd but honestly so is the cullens. They're native to the Indian subcontinent, and are known for being aggressive towards humans. Its said that for the most part they're pretty calm, so I think its just fear of humans that make them act aggressively. Honestly, that's a good thing because they are listed as vulnerable on the IUCN Red list.
They have some similarities with sloths, which is where they get the name. They have long claws and unusual teeth. They are known to hang upside down from tree branches, and is described as having a messy appearance. Honestly, Emmitt has a messy personality. Sorry bestie but you're a lot of work.
Now heres the biggest reason for choosing this bear. Aside from Baloo from the jungle book being a sloth bear, they are known to run fades with Tigers. Honestly, how fucking badass is that!? Now I don't think there are recorded instances of a Sloth bear killing a Tiger, but when push comes to shove, they can hold their own and I find that incredibly impressive.
Tumblr media
Carlisle: This one was somehow the easiest as well as the toughest. I know Owl seems like the obvious choice, and I can see it. However, I believe Carlisle values emotional intelligence as much or if not more than academic intelligence. He is so charismatic and values other's above himself. He might not be as Saint like as Edward thinks, but he does try and I think he genuinely cares about others. For that reason alone, I choose a Elephant.
Elephant's are very social animals and are extremely intelligent. I could rave about them for ages, I love them so much.
Now elephants live in a familial unit and are usually matriarchal. Bulls usually are on the outer edges of the herd or form little groups with other males. Honestly, they're not that bad aside from when their in musk.
In the group of males, the elder ones will teach the younger where to get the best food, water, how to use things as tools, and every other thing that will increase their odds of survival. This is really cute to me tbh, they do this because the females usually choose the older males because they've proved that they are intelligent and strong, that they have survived and will continue to for awhile. Teaching the younger males these things are to make the odds of them getting chosen to mate more likely. The whole unit just reminds me of a father that has to deal with rowdy teens.
Carlisle likes to take in strays, he might not have a herd but he will make one and teach them to thrive. That's how he envisions it anyway. He just has a found family and is trying his best.
Tumblr media
Esme: Now this might seem like an insult, but I promise it's not! This is in no way misogynistic. I love cattle and ever since I took animal science in highschool, I have appreciated these grass puppies like they deserve. Call me Castro because I love cows.
Yup! I chose a Cow for her. Specifically a beef cow. That might sound weird but its because beef cows have higher maternal instinct than dairy cows. I'm thinking Scottish Highland based on vibes alone.
They are nicknamed the Gentle Giants of Scotland. Super maternal and sweet and ugh look how cute they are!
Esme came from a abusive marriage and had just lost her child, she was depressed and desperate. Her changing was, in a way, salvation. She just fits in. She adopts all these strays along with him and will protect them to the death. She might be gentle by nature, but don't fuck with her family. She lost her first one and she isn't going to lose this one.
Tumblr media
Alice: She's an odd one. There are so many possibilities and maybe I'm biased, but I feel like she would be a Crow.
Ok listen, I'm definitely biased but it just feels right. Crows get a bad rap, they are so cool! They are so intelligent and have the ability to actually sit and think about the past, prest, and future. I forget what its called, but this was only seem in humans! Maybe other apes, I can't remember exactly, but either way its awesome. They do live in groups, or murders, and remember people and faces. They remember locations and are able to pass down information through generations. They essentially have their own language! They are able to use tools too!
Alice's story is really sad. When we first meets her, it revolves around the death of her mother and her institutionalized. She was essentially tortured and forgot everything from her past. All she had was the future and even that wasn't constant. Crows a often viewed as omens, they are associated with death. I personally believe that instead of being the cause, they just know something is going to happen. They are very inquisitive and can be creative.
If you befriend a murder of crows, sometimes, depends or the group, they will bring gifts. Its can range from food to shiny metals and colorful plastic. Hell, I think I've seen a post of one stealing things from people just to gift it to their human.
Alice's love language is gifts. Even if they are focused around fashion, she still goes out of her way to get something that will look good and at least be a little comfortable. By that I mean she tends to forget peoples comfort zones, but she means well.
Tumblr media
Jasper: Honestly not to sure what to put for him. I know a predator would be more fitting, but for some reason I can see a donkey working. I know, seems like I'm clowning on the confederate. Fair, but I'm serious about the donkey thing. Honestly, it would be perfect if it wasn't a herbivore. Porcupine would also work.
Being a predator would make more sense. Given his backstory and his characterization, it wouldn't make sense for him to be a prey animal. Usually I wouldn't count this, but given his gore filled past and trouble with the diet, it seemed fitting.
I see him as a Big Cat. Honestly, vamps in general just give cat vibes. Jasper though especially have some cat like qualities, which originates from hunting and being a soldier.
I specifically see him as a Mountain Lion. Aside from him being blonde, he just has the predatory stealth to him. In midnight sun, we see him use his gift to make the nomads overlook him. He's honestly really powerful.
Mountain lions are known for being stealthy with an air of grace and power to them. They are stong animals. And I mean strong. They can jump 40-45 feet.
They're very elusive and quite. They stalk their prey and tend to attack from behind but don't think they won't hold their ground if need be.
Jasper was changed during the Civil War and forced to fight in the Newborn wars. He was a soldier as a human and as a vampire. He's able to feel and manipulate others emotions. He's covered in scars and is very intimidating.
He still struggles with the diet and honestly I hate how the others handle it. Like they have no room to talk. I don't want to defend the confederate but it just pisses me off. He has to deal with his hunger on top of everyone else's. Like damn, besties always on edge! Everyone doubts him which I don't think helps any.
Also, Mountain lions and Cheetahs can purr!
@aquanova99 I'll do a Volturi one too. That one will be fun lmao

“bella amelia, cosa ho fatto per meritarmi questa telefonata?” (beautiful amelia, what did i do to deserve this phone call?) Jorginho spoke his second-native tongue down the line to the British girl, calling him way past her self-appointed bedtime of 9pm.
“Jorgi, ho bisogno del consiglio di un amico” (Jorgi, i need the advice of a friend). Amelia, almost desperately, pleaded down the line to the boy who became her therapist.
It had been a few days since Amelia & Jack’s facetime where they sat and listened to the countless offers the successful girl had waiting in her voice message inbox. Being the person that she is, Amelia needed to distract herself from obsessing over the messages so she threw herself into her job. Spending too many hours over her paid allocation at Juventus training ground, getting administrative work done for the season ahead.
Was this her way of nesting? Or empty-nesting? Was she subconsciously preparing the club and her boys for life without her? Getting them ready with a season's worth of set pieces and tactical plays that would secure them an outstanding 37th victory? On the flip side, was she preparing for her new role in England which she had yet to accept. There was no harm in her taking her intellectual property back over to the motherland. The two clubs did not compete in the same tournaments, perhaps only the Champions league - but who's to say that whatever club she does pick will make the Champions League? There was no doubt Juve would be there - all of her preparation would ensure they would be. Whoever took over her role simply just had to show up and keep the boys in line.
“ok tesoro, parlami.” (Ok darling, speak to me). The Italian settled onto his couch, espresso in hand, waiting to hear the younger girl's problem.
“So I've spoken with Kyle & Jack now, and have told them of my predicament. They both are very heavily favouring one side - but I need a voice of reason. If you happen to express the same sentiments that they both did, then maybe that's all of the reassurance I need to make this final decision.” Amelia switched back to her native tongue.
After spending the better part of an hour discussing in great depth the offers that she was receiving from the 5 english clubs, Amelia felt just as confused as she did before calling the Chelsea boy. No surprise that Jorgi was team Come to the Prem & Join Chelsea, but the italian midfield maestro had also brought her back down to earth from cloud nine and reminded her of what, or who, she was leaving behind.
“Now I don't like telling you what to do, but you need to discuss this with Fede, Amelia. He doesn’t deserve a lot of things, but this is something he does.”
So that's where Amelia found herself the next morning. Sunday’s in Italy were reserved for espresso and long walks in the sun. This particular Sunday must have been reflective of the internal turmoil she was facing, uncommon for the season, the sky above her was overcast and a light drizzle had started to set in on her walk to the charming Italian’s townhouse.
______________________________________________________________
“pensavo fosse un mito che gli inglesi portino con sé il tempo the” (i thought it was a myth that british people bring the weather with them) Fede said as he opened the door, and his arms, while looking down the two steps at me.
“Very funny” I said as I gave him a hug. He always was so good at hugs. I’m going to miss them. Snap out of it Amelia - you don’t even know if you’re going to go yet. Oh she knows she's going. She also knows what club she's going to. No she doesn't, you be quiet. I’m here rooting for her Italian romance. If I had an angel and devil on each shoulder, their conversation would speak my internal monologue as such.
Walking through to his kitchen, putting on a coffee and saying hello to his dogs, Fede stood in the doorway and watched me move around his kitchen as though it was my own.
“I’m convinced you got British bulldogs because you just can’t help but love the English” I cheekily smiled up at him from my crouched position in the middle of his kitchen, giving the two bullys the best head rubs.
“Sure, you keep thinking that Amelia” Oh, the way he says your name Amelia, so foreign, so romantic. He says it the same way any other Italian would say it, he’s nothing special. Be quiet, let them have their moment.
“Lets go and enjoy these out in the courtyard, is your sun shade still up? It should hold out the rain right?” Amelia spoke rushedly as she poured two espresso cups and walked towards his back door.
“Tesoro, why are you so unsteady today? Is something troubling you?” Fede spoke worriedly, noticing my little nervous habits coming out to play and speaking faster than my mind could comprehend. Better to just get this over with i think, for once we agree on something.
“Ok i need to tell you something, and i need you to let me get it all out before interrupting me. Can you do that? This is something i’ve been working up the courage to speak out loud, let alone speak it to you”
Fede took a sip of his espresso, holding my eye contact, before putting his cup back on its saucer and leaning forward, elbows on his knees. He thought he was ready for what i was about to say, expecting it to be yet another long winded speech as to why i want to put a label on our situationship. Oh boy, how wrong he was.
“After the success of the european tournament, i have received a lot of praise and recognition for my skills”
“And you deserve every bit of it amore, every bit and even more” Oh dear, could my heart hurt anymore?
“Fede, I asked you not to interrupt me…”
“Ok ok, sorry, continue”
“So, I have received a lot of recognition both here in Italy as well as from my home country of England. In saying that, I have received a few offers from clubs in the premier league that want me to bring my approach, the italian approach, to the english game. It's a real step up in my career and it's something I am seriously considering. I’ve spoken with some of the boys back home and also Jorgi, they all think that this is the next step for me. I’m far too comfortable here, I can't grow in my comfort zone. I think I'm ready for a new challenge.”
I held eye contact with the 27 year old, I wasn’t about to let him know just how vulnerable I was feeling here in front of him. Something Fede could always do was read me, and read my emotions. If he knew how exposed I felt, how easily I could be swayed over this decision, then he would make it his life's mission to do so. I had made my mind up that I was going, but there was also a part of me that decided if he was to give me what I was after I would be open to the possibility of staying.
“So it seems that you have asked for the opinion of everyone else in your life, and made your decision, before even considering mine.” He slumped back in his chair, and rubbed two fingers over his lips while looking off into the small courtyard garden.
“Fede, I have made my decision. But I wanted to talk to you about it, I owe that to you. You have made my time here so memorable, so fantastic, so filled with love that I wouldn't even consider not including you in this.”
“Is there anything I can do to make you stay? Do you want me to ask you to be my girlfriend? To tell you I love you? To move in with me? Let me know what you need from me to reconsider this decision” He began to get frustrated with me, pulling the cap off of his head and running his fingers through his hair.
“That’s exactly it Fede! I don’t want to ask you to do that, you should ask me to be your girlfriend on your own! I don't want you to tell me you love me if you think that's what I want to hear - I want you to feel like you love me! I don’t need anyone to tell me what I want to hear, what I want to hear is what you truly feel. And if there is something i have learnt about you in the last few years is that you can’t hold back your feelings with anything! If you were in love with me it would have burst from you a long time ago. I think that you do love me Fede, but as someone to come home to instead of no one at all.”
“You know Fede, i don’t have any regrets over this. You mean just as much to me now as you did the very first time we crossed that boundary and blurred the lines. You’re just my type, you only call me late at night, you can’t decide if you’ll be your own man or mine. I hate to say it, but you really are just my type. This decision has nothing to do with you, it’s something i have come to make all on my own.”
I had stood up now, looking down at the 27 year old. I needed him to understand exactly what I was saying, how serious I was. This was the moment I could get it all off my chest, instead of just letting the relationship play out on his terms.
“I leave on Friday, I let the club know this morning. There's nothing that can be done now Fede, this is my decision. Please respect it, and me”
He stood up, his almost 6’1” frame towering over me. Looking down, face of steel, I could see everything I needed behind his eyes.
“hai ragione ti amo Solo non nel modo in cui meriti di essere amato” (you're right, i do love you. Just not in the way you deserve to be loved). He pulled me into his chest, both arms wrapping around the back of my shoulders, left hand holding my head in the crook of his neck. My arms wrapped around his back from below his arms, holding him tight enough that they crossed over and I could grab the sides of his rib cage. This was the closure I needed.
“I’ll give Jorginho a call and make sure he looks out for you”
“How do you know what club I'm going to?”
“I saw the way your eyes sparkled when you mentioned its name, it was the same sparkle that used to come out when you said mine…”

The City of Romance
Summary: On Spencer’s mandatory leave, he plans a trip to Paris, France where he meets an unforgettable face.
A/N: I got this idea during my language class. Please excuse my terrible French, I am still learning. This might be 2 parts? Maybe 3? I’ll figure it out. Anyways if you have any ideas for this or other requests let me know!
Italics: Translation French to English.
This is more of an introduction <3
Part 2, Part 3
Check out my masterlist here!
Tumblr media
For as long as you remembered, you had stayed with your mom in France during summers and worked at her café. Specifically her café in Paris. It was a dream. She made lots of business and your family was already pretty well off. You met lots of people working this job, however one seemed to stick out to you.
“Bienvenue! Que puis-ie vous offrir aujourd’hui?”  “Welcome! What can I offer you today?”
“Sorry, I don’t speak French.” You smiled at the tall man in front of you. He was handsome and seemed kind but nervous.
“No worries. Welcome, what can I get you today?” He seemed relived at the fact you spoke English. You would’ve too.
“Can I get a coffee, 2 boxes of macarons, and 3 chocolate croissants?” You smiled and typed in the order on the computer on the counter.
“Of course. Will that be all?” He smiled and nodded. “Great. Your total is 24.50.” He handed you the foreign currency and you started to make his coffee and box his treats. “Here you are. Have a great day...”
“Spencer. You too,” He looked at your name tag, “Y/N. I should be on my way, I have a flight. Bye!” You smiled and waved.
The rest of the day you couldn’t get that boy out of your head. You were a little disappointed that he would have already left France but the thought of visiting your uncle made it better. You stayed with your mom in the summer and your dad the rest of the year. After he passed, your uncle had promised to take care of you while you were in America. You were a grown adult but that didn’t stop him. Even 3 weeks later, as you boarded the flight, you couldn’t stop thinking about Spencer. What did he need 3 chocolate croissants for? You need the delectable treats you brought for your uncle. He was going to meet you at his work and asked you to bring something for him. You couldn’t bring something just for him though, so you brought something for all of his team. You had never met his team but that didn’t stop you. They were his family, so they would be yours too.
He met you downstairs on the ground floor after you got through security.
“Bella!” You smiled and basically ran to hug him.
“Uncle David!” He squeezed you tight.
“How was Paris? And your flight?” You giggled a little.
“It was beautiful as always. You have to come visit me and mom some time. My flight was weird. Not in a bad way, I just met someone I guess and, never mind. How are you?”
“I’m good. I think coming out of retirement was definitely a good idea.” You both talked all the way up and all the way to his office.
“Oh, I totally forgot. I brought you guys some stuff from the café. Mom started working with a local bakery and their macarons are just perfect. And don’t even get me started on the croissants.” You pulled out the boxes from your bag and placed them on his desk.
“I know just the person who would love some of these. Come on, I will introduce you to her first.” You smiled and followed him to a dark room with a wall covered with monitors.
“Wow.” In such a dark space sat a bright colored blonde. Her outfit had lots of fun colors and her hair was curled. Her makeup and earrings were fun and exciting. Everything about her radiated good energy.
“Rossi what’s- And who is this beauty next to you? Hoping she’s not wife number 4.” You laughed.
“This is my niece Y/N. Y/N this is Penelope Garcia our technical analyst.” You held out your hand.
“It’s great to meet you Penelope. I heard you like pastries?” You held out a box and her face lit up.
“I love them! Ok wow, these look amazing, where are they from?” Her smile was huge as she looked at the croissants.
“Actually they’re from Paris.” Her jaw dropped. “My mom owns a café and bakery in Paris France. I’m just here during the year for school.” She is still stunned.
“Well wow. I don’t know what else to say. Wait yes I do. Thank for these!” You smiled.
“Of course. If you ever need some just tell David and they will be sent to your front door.” She held her arms out for a hug which you gave her.
“Alright, well I am going to take Y/N to meet the rest of the team. Bye Garcia!” She waved as you two walked out.
“I like her. She’s very fun. Not boring like you.” You joked. You saw a group of people standing over by a counter and that’s when you saw him. The man from the café. “Long time no see.” He was a little confused when he heard you, but when he saw you he understood.
“Oh hey Y/N. What are you doing here?”
“I’m just visiting my uncle. So this is where you were rushing off to then?”
“Yeah.” You saw a small smile creep on his face. It wasn’t a lot but you noticed it.
“Woah let’s slow down here pretty boy. Rossi, who is this?” You stared over at the man next to him. He was tall with a strong build and holding a cup of coffee.
“This is my niece Y/N. Y/N this is Derek Morgan, Emily Prentiss, and I guess you already know Spencer.” You nodded.
“Yeah, yeah I do.” They all stared at you both positively bewildered. “Oh, uh he came by the café I work at. He got a bunch of macarons.”
“Wait, you work where those came from?” The lady who was apparently known as Emily.
“Yeah, my mom owns it and I work there during the summer. Speaking of.” You pulled out a smaller box filled with cookies and macarons. “These are for you guys.
“Thank you gorgeous. I guess we may have to thank Spencer then for introducing us to these.” You giggled softly.
“I guess you will.” Your phone rang and you noticed the caller ID to be your mom. “Sorry. I have to answer this real quick.” You walked a few feet away before answering. “Salut maman!” “Hey mom!”
“Salut bebe! Avez-vous atterri?” “Hi baby! Have you landed?”
“Quais. Je parle en fait aux collegues de David. Puis-ie vous appeler un peu?” “Yeah. I’m actually talking to David’s colleagues. Can I call you in a bit?”
“Bien sûr. Je t'aime.” “Of course. I love you.”
“Je t'aime aussi. Au revoir.“ “I love you too. Bye.” You hung up the phone and headed back over to them.
“Well genius what did she say?” You laughed as you walked back.
“He wouldn’t know.” They all gave you an odd and ashamed look for asking him.
“She’s right. I don’t know French.”
“Spencer Reid. You have an eidetic memory and went to a new country and didn’t learn French?”
“Well I learned a little but I didn’t really need to learn any. A lot of the natives knew English.” You nodded.
“He’s right. And it was my mom, she was asking if I landed.” Suddenly another blonde woman popped over. JJ. You had met her before by accident. Last time you came to visit you had a late flight in and so when you came by David’s house he was having a dinner party but everyone had left except her. She wanted to get to know you and you got coffee. “JJ!”
“Oh my goodness Y/N! What’re you doing here?” She pulled you into a quick hug.
“I’m staying with David now for school because of what happened.” She gave a sympathetic smile.
Your father had passed away from a house fire. He was a bit older and already had health issues so the smoke inhalation was too much and he sadly passed.
“That’s great. How’s school been going?”
“Pretty well. I take some extra courses during the summer so I am looking for a job currently because I have everything I need done.”
“What career are you going into?” Derek questioned.
“Teaching. Specifically elementary because I can’t stand teenagers. They do not hold back, and as great as some of them are, I want my kids to be able and come see there first or kindergarten teacher years from now. I think I may have found a school around here but they haven’t gotten back to me yet.” They all nodded. “Well I was going to get some coffee if anyone wants to come along.”
“Reid why don’t you go?” Derek was patting him on the break to try and convince him to.
“Uh sure. If that’s okay with you of course.” You smiled.
“Of course. Let’s go I guess.” You walked with Spencer out to your uncles car that he so kindly lent you for the time being. He kept your car at his mansion so you wouldn’t have to worry about it. “Where should we go? I don’t normally come down here with David so I don’t really know a ton.” You asked as you got into the drivers side.
“There’s a little coffee shop not to far from here.” He gave you the directions as you drove. When you got there you ordered a coffee and a sandwich. Truth be told you were starved.
“So what degrees do you have?” He sipped his coffee before answering.
“I have a PhD in math, physics, and engineering as well as 3 BAs.” You jaw was 6 feet under. You assumed he was smart but damn.
“Wow. That’s... Impressive.” You laughed softly.
“Yeah. What about you? You said you wanted to be a teacher.”
“I have a bachelors in elementary education and one in special education. That is more so I can be more inclusive in the classroom. Honestly it’s pretty smart to get one because all children learn in very different ways. Like me, I loved reading when I was a child but I learned better by listening and looking at pictures. Some children think noise is distracting or that bright fun colored pictures are so we have to think about all of them and not just the majority. So far I have found a lot of different teaching methods to cater to all students. It’s really interesting. Sorry I’m rambling aren’t I? I do that when I get excited.” He chuckles and shakes his head.
“Don’t worry about it. One time I told a detective that it’s safer to kiss instead of shake hands.”
“Ooh. Yikes. Don’t tell that to kids though, they will run around kissing each other and get some kind of disease I swear.” Conversation flowed easily between you both. You both took turns rambling while the other listened. It was comforting to have someone who actually listened and could understand you when you spoke a mile a minute.
He couldn’t help but think the same. Most of his friends had teased him over his facts. You listened and asked questions. You didn’t cut him off or laugh. You were actually interested as was he when you spoke. You talked pretty fast but he managed to keep up. Before you realized it was no longer 1:30. It was 4:15. You had talked with him for hours and it only felt like minutes. You texted your uncle that you would just wait in the car for him but when Spencer got out you felt like you had to do it.
“Wait! Spencer!” He stopped and spun to see you running towards him. “Would you like to go out for dinner sometime? Maybe this weekend if you’re not on a case?” His smile was blinding.
“I love that.” You exchanged phone numbers.
“Perfect. Hopefully see you this weekend.” You placed a quick kiss on his cheek before running back to the car. He felt weak in the knees and thought he might collapse right then and there. Luckily he kept himself up until he got to the office. He was so excited and while he may not be religious, he prayed there wouldn’t be a case.

Don Giorno fluff alphabet
An A-Z fluff breakdown of how it would be to love and be loved by this golden dreamboat. I may or may not have gotten carried away... *sigh* 🥺💭❤️
Cut for length
Tumblr media
Activities - What do they like to do with their s/o? How do they spend their free time with them?
Giorno doesn’t have much free time, so the little he has available will be divided between going out to places where you both can enjoy the outdoors and feel the sunshine on your skin. He would also take you to art galleries and museums to indulge in the culture. Every so often, you guys will stay in and just bask in each other’s company.
Beauty - What do they admire about their s/o? What do they think is beautiful about them?
Naturally he’ll love you overall, inner beauty, outside beauty, everything. However, he’s especially drawn to your eyes. They are the windows to the soul, he loves that he can always see your true feelings by observing your eyes.
Comfort - How would they help their s/o when they feel down/have a panic attack etc.?
The situation would determine Giorno’s actions. If you’re feeling a bit low he will make himself available to talk to you and help you work through your feelings. If you just need a cuddle and words of reassurance he will provide those too. If you’re being consumed by anxiety and panic he will try and calm your breathing to a more even pace and he will talk you down in a calming tone and reassure you that whatever it might be, he will always be there for you.
Dreams - How do they picture their future with their s/o?
Growing up, Giorno didn’t have the happiest childhood. I feel he would yearn for a family of his own. Even though the thought of having children might make him anxious, he would be determined to give them the life he didn’t get to have.
Equal - Are they the dominant one in the relationship, or rather passive?
Giorno would be the dominant one, but very gentle in his treatment of you. His natural charisma will have you submitting without you being aware of it, a perfect combination of Johnathan and Dio.
Fight - Would they easily forgive their s/o? How are they fighting?
Giorno would not want to fight with you. Conflicts will be handled by trying to come to a compromise. If emotions are running really high he would remove himself from the situation until he’s calm enough to discuss everything. If you were the one at fault and you apologized to him, he would forgive you, he can’t stay upset at you.
Gratitude - How grateful are they in general? Are they aware of what their s/o is doing for them?
Giorno appreciates everything you do for him. Regardless of how big or small the gesture is, it means a lot that you’re being thoughtful of him.
Honesty - Do they have secrets they hide from their s/o? Or do they share everything?
Given the nature of what he does, there will be a lot that he would want to keep away from you for your own safety. He will keep the mafia business as separate from his home life as possible.
Inspiration - Did their s/o change them somehow, or the other way around? Like trying out new things or helped them overcome personal problems?
Giorno would learn how to be more outwardly affectionate and more expressive in general from his s/o. Not having formed secure attachments in his childhood, his s/o would be instrumental in him learning how to trust and reach that level of intimacy with someone.
Jealousy - Do they get jealous easily? How do they deal with it?
He’s not someone who easily gets jealous, he trusts you completely. However if a situation does arise where someone is being a bit too familiar with you, he will come to you and casually rest his arm around your waist and draw you against himself. A simple, but clear message.
Kiss - Are they a good kisser? What was the first kiss like?
The first kiss was sweet, albeit a bit awkward seeing as you were both young and inexperienced, as you both become more confident the kisses are passionate and leave you both yearning for more.
Love Confession - How would they confess to their s/o?
He would confess in a quiet setting, perhaps during a candlelit dinner, or on a long walk along the coastline, initially being a bit nervous, but generally he would hide his nerves well. He would be forthright but still very sweet and respectful, perhaps using GE to create a single rose for you. He wouldn’t pressure you for an immediate response either, rather giving you some time to consider everything.
Marriage - Do they want to get married? How do they propose? What would the marriage be like?
Giorno would want to get married when the time is right. The proposal would be very intimate, just the two of you. He would have your ring made to your tastes which he has already discerned from how well he knows you. He would list all the reasons he’s thankful for you and end off with the big question as he slowly takes out the ring box from his pocket. The wedding would be everything you want it to be, he gives you free reign, offering his input when you solicit it. In the marriage, he wants you both to have a peaceful, happy life together, free from conflicts and drama, you’re his safe haven, he will protect that at all costs.
Nicknames - What do they call their s/o?
Mostly terms of endearment in his native Italian dialect. His favorites would be Tesoro, Amore, bella/Bello.
On Cloud Nine - What are they like when they are in love? Is it obvious for others? How do they express their feelings?
People very close to him would be able to tell he’s in love by the softness in his eyes when your name comes up in conversation. Thinking about you instantly puts him in a better mood. When it’s just you two, Giorno in love is like the first sunshine after a storm, it quietly illuminates everything with a warm glow, making you ever so thankful for its existence.
PDA - Are they upfront about their relationship? Do they brag with their s/o in front of others? Or are they rather shy to kiss etc. when others are watching?
While everyone who needs to know about your relationship does know, he’s not big on PDA or flaunting the relationship in front of others. Any PDA would be chaste, holding your hand every now and then, or putting his arm around your waist. Aside from keeping you safe from potential enemies, he just feels more comfortable being overtly affectionate with you in private. He has to maintain his image as a Don.
Quirk - Some random ability they have that’s beneficial in a relationship.
Over and above his stand abilities, Giorno has an uncanny ability to read people, so he will always be able to sense when you’re not okay.
Romance - How romantic are they? What would they do to make their s/o happy? Cliché or rather creative?
He can be very romantic when it comes to showing you how much he loves you. He’s the type of lover to surprise you with something you’ve wanted but have long since forgotten about. He would arrange small, anonymous escapes for the two of you to the countryside. He knows that as much as he can give you material gifts, what you want most from him is his time, so he would think of creative ways in which you & him can escape.
Support - Are they helping their s/o achieve their goals? Do they believe in them?
Giorno is supportive of your dreams and goals, having realised dreams of his own, he understands how important it is to have the people closest to you believe in those dreams. So whether your goals are academically inclined, a charitable venture or any other goal, he will support you in any way he can.
Thrill - Do they need to try out new things to spice out your relationship? Or do they prefer a certain routine?
Giorno wouldn’t mind trying out different things if you wanted him to, the busy nature of his work keeps things spontaneous though.
Understanding - How well do they know their partner? Are they empathetic?
Giorno can read you like an open book, he’s very in tune with your feelings and emotions, as mentioned earlier, he is a pro at reading people.
Value - How important is the relationship to them?
He places a large degree of importance on you and the relationship in general. You keep him grounded and he is able to be the truest version of himself around you.
Wild Card - A random Fluff Headcanon.
One of Giorno’s guilty pleasures is baking with you. He has quite an affinity for chocolate, and he lives for warm domestic moments with you, so he can indulge in both by doing this.
XOXO - Are they very affectionate? Do they love to kiss and cuddle?
In the beginning his attempts at physical displays of affection would be slightly awkward, but as he grows more comfortable, he grows to adore receiving as well as giving kisses and cuddles, in private of course.
Yearning - How will they cope when they’re missing their partner?
He understands that his job will most likely keep him away from you for periods of time. He will always check in on you even if just by text, to make sure that you’re okay, and to let you know how much you mean to him. He knows that he’s returning home to you, which encourages him during particularly difficult times.
Zeal - Are they willing to go to great lengths for the relationship? If so, what kind?
Giorno’s no stranger to being placed in dangerous situations. He will do everything in his power to keep you safe, if anything threatens your wellbeing, he will do everything he can to make sure you remain unharmed.

New girl (Twilight au Witch x Edward) Part 5
WARNING: One more part after this and this story is done. hope you like it till the end !
Hope you enjoy!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When I went over the next day I was surprised to find out that Edward was gone to hang out with Bella. At least I’m sure they are a nice couple I thought. I spent the day with Asher as he finished up an assignment that we have. No sooner did he finish than I decided to head home. He walked me to the door and hugged me before I left.
After I ate with my dad I made sure that I had all of my homework done for school, and was satisfied to know I had everything done. With that out of my mind, I headed out the door to explore the forest more.
Grabbing my sweater I put it on as I yelled to my dad that I would be back later. I closed the door as a big gust of wind blew past me, ignoring the cold I walked into the woods, hearing the leaves crunch underneath my feet as I walked.
I listened to the wind and the sound of the forest creatures running around in the trees, I even got a glimpse of a deer before it took off. “How cute” I made it to a stream that separated where I was standing. Hmm, looks interesting. I wonder what was on the other side. The instant I went to turn back I heard a loud whimper from the other side, and without thinking, I easily jumped over the gap, rushing to where I sensed the hurt animal, only when I got there did I realize it wasn’t a small animal that I first thought.
It was a wolf.
I thought wolves were big but this one was bigger still. I froze in front of this sandy-colored wolf until I saw that it was hurt, its paw was stuck in a bear trap. “Hey, it’s ok,” I whispered, as I inched closer to it. The wolf lifted its head at me, it seemed calmer than I would have thought from a wild wolf, aside from the whimper it would let out every so often. As I got close enough to be right next to it I gently ran my hand through its fur. “Good boy,” I said, gently grabbing the bear trap and started to push the sides down to open it.
Hearing the wolf started to growl a little, I stopped to look at it for a moment. “I’m trying to help please don’t be mad.” Getting back to my tack I got it opened and it yanked its paw out, backing up a bit from me to nurse it.
Should I help them?
Standing up I walked over to them slowly. Which got them to stop to watch me. I held my hands out in front of me to show I meant no harm. “Would you mind if I look at your paw?” I asked as I kneeled in front of it. It stared at me with kind brown eyes that got me confused. “C...Can you understand me?” It nodded its head. “Cool.” I smiled at it before reaching for its paw. “Can I look at it, to see if it needs to be wrapped?” It nodded again and I gently took hold of its paw, seeing that there was no more blood or wound.
That’s odd, usually, there would be a wound still, but there’s nothing. Did it heal itself? Sneaking a glance at the wolf I glimpsed into its mind to see that it was a person! I listened to how his thoughts mixed with others. Those others saying that they are on their way to them. So the wolf is a person named Seth? That’s a nice name I thought as I let go of his paw.
“The wound seems to have closed so that’s good.” Patting his paw, me and he both stood up, and I gently brushed my hand against his fur. He dipped his head as I must have got a good spot on him. “You sure are cute,” I commented as I sensed the others coming our way. Well, better go before I get in trouble.
With one last scratch, I backed up. “I better be going but it was nice to meet you mister werewolf!” I smiled, noting that it froze, I waved and walked away, hearing the sound of it slowly following me. Sensing their pack behind them as well, I stopped and turned to see nothing but I knew where they were.
I heard some branches break and turned to glance that way before walking over to where I knew Seth would be. “Can I help you?” I asked, peeking behind the tree to see him freeze a second time.
He came out with his head down, aw he looks cute if a wolf that towers over you can be called ‘cute’. I’m not going to hurt you. I smiled at him and patted his head. “I would like to ask why you are following me, but I don’t think you would want to talk.” He just stared at me, looking more confused. A second later another wolf came into view. This one was bigger than the one I was currently patting on the head still.
“Hello.” I greeted the black wolf with a wave. It eyed me for a moment then looked at the wolf I had stopped petting. I wonder what they could be talking about. Something must have been said, cause then Seth went behind the tree and all I heard was the sound of bones popping and cracking.
That has to hurt, I thought as I waited, for him to come back out from behind the tree. I was not expecting a tall person to come out, thank goodness in shorts, I don’t know how I would handle it if he came out naked. He towered over me as he sheepishly came back over to me. “Hello.” I waved which he reciprocated. “Hi.” He seems to look older but he seems like a younger person, we stood in silence for a bit before I tilted my head.
I wonder what he is scared about. His pack? Or maybe he just doesn’t want others to find out about him. Either way, I want to be friends with him, in the little bit I was in his head I liked how his mind was kind. I held out my hand with a smile. “Nice to meet you, I’m Luna.” His hesitation wasn’t unexpected, but I was glad when he took my hand with a grin.
“Seth.”
“Nice to meet you, Seth.”
Looking into his eyes, I glanced through his memories before staying in the present to see him still gazing at me. “So why were you following me?” I took a step back. “Was it to get rid of me?” We both looked horrified before I chuckled, turning my head away. “I’m sorry. It seemed quite tense so I thought to try to make you laugh.” He seemed to relax a bit. “But I guess my joke didn’t go well.” Shaking his head at me, he smiled. “I was told to ask how you knew I was a werewolf.” Pointing to my head I answered. “By your mind, and the fact that your wound was healed by the time I looked at it, that’s not normal.”
He nodded, as he reached up to rub the back of his neck, shifting to one foot and then the next. “And are you going to tell anyone? It’s something that people aren’t supposed to know.” Seeing him getting more nervous, I shook my head. “No, I wasn’t going to tell anyone. I just thought it was nice to see another supernatural being.” I finished with a grin. “Supernatural being?” I felt all eyes turn to me.
With a dip of my head I pointed to Seth, “Yup, you’re a werewolf.” turning my hand to point to myself. “And I’m a witch.” As if to prove it I made a couple of balls of light to swirl alive in my hand before making them disappear by closing my hand.
Seeing his eyes light up in wonder I held back a laugh “Can you do that again?” He asked, standing close to me now, eyeing my hand. “Sure.” Balls of light started to appear surrounding us and started to slowly spin until with a wave of my hand they too disappeared. “Cool huh?” I asked, getting a little excited by how much he was.
The guy is tall but he acts like a child a bit. Holding back another laugh I pinched his cheek. “I have to get going now that it is getting late but would it be ok if I come back tomorrow to chat?” I asked, with a step back to not crowd him.
His eyes went wide before he started to laugh as others started to come up behind him. “You are a weird witch.” One tall guy said, wrapping his arm around Seth’s shoulder to lean on him. Soon I realized just how short I was, even the other woman was taller than me.
“Well, aren’t I a dwarf,” I murmured to myself starting to stare at the ground. That seemed to be funny to them cause they started to laugh but then went silent. With a peek at them, they were all staring at the oldest-looking one but you would still call him a young man.
His stare made me think he was debating on if he can trust me or try to kill me. I am hoping not the latter. I don’t want to cause trouble for people. Keeping my heart calm I simply stared back until he looked away as if he finally decided what he wanted to do.
“That’s fine with me I’m sure Emily would like to have another girl to talk to.” He then glanced at the woman who just stiffened and then walked away. “Stepped on a land mine huh?” A boy joked which got him elbowed, hard. “Ow!” He rubbed his ribs before coming forward and ruffling my head. “You are so short.”
I felt my eyes go hard at the comment, I knew I was maybe shorter than others but I didn’t want to be picked on for it. Without looking at him I looked at the big guy who I assumed to be the leader. “Can I flip him?” I asked, casually, pointing at the guy who soon backed up in defense.
“If you can.”
“Sure” I grinned.
Next thing they knew I rushed at him and quickly grabbed his arm before turning and flipping him over onto his back, knocking the wind out of him.
He laid on the ground in stun silence as the others cracked up over him, before helping him up. It looked like he was going to glare at me but then he started to laugh as well. “I take it, I shouldn’t call you short.” At that, the corner of my mouth lifted a bit. “I would like it if you didn’t . . . Unless you want to go flying again.” I ended with a grin but by his slight nervous look, he knew I wasn’t bluffing.
It was getting darker, so I better be getting home. “I should be going but I’ll see you tomorrow!” I grinned, waving at them, before turning and heading to the stream. Shortly after jumping it, I headed home to go get some rest for school tomorrow. Excited knowing that I maybe have made a few more friends.
Thus began the time I spent with The Cullens and The Wolf Pack. It was fun to learn about them and I also answered questions they had for me. It was nice, Seth was a sweetheart to hang out with. His excitement made me more excited by default. I was eating muffins at Emily’s house. A beautiful native woman who had a scar running down her face. Her reaction to me saying she was beautiful when I first met her made her look flabbergasted.
The others just laughed and went straight for the food she prepared. I munched on the chocolate muffin as the other argued and Seth and I chatted by the counter. “Do witches fly on brooms?” He asked, with a mouth full. I grabbed a napkin and handed it to him, making him blush. “Some do. Others can just fly.” I demonstrated by floating a little off the ground and landing back on the wooded floor.
“But I have met a witch that would need to use a broom to fly,” I added, taking another bite of my muffin, enjoying its chocolate goodness. “Then do witches have mates?” That had me tilting my head. “Like your imprinting thing?” When he nodded, I thought about it. “Well, yeah you can say we do. They are called Chosen.” This time it was him who tilted his head. “Chosen?” I gave a nod as I started to explain. “Yup. They are called Chosen, cause out of all of the universes they were chosen just for you. But some witches chosen aren’t happy to be with a witch, so they reject them.” I added, looking down at the ground.
Seth wrapped his arm around me. “Did you find your Chosen?” He is sweet, I wonder how old he is at times. “No, I knew a witch who found her chosen but they rejected her. I was just remembering how she kind of withered away because of it. But want to know a cool thing about being a witch?” Nodding his eyes widened with excitement again. I held up my finger as I pointed to myself. “If a witch chooses to also reject their chosen, then they can break their bond, and in turn that bond will go to another.” Taking note of the others I was surprised to find them mostly looking at me.
“Then how would a witch find their chosen?” Paul asked, seeming interested in witches’ things as well. “Some find them through touch, others through looking into their eyes, like you guys. And some can even just sense their chosen around.” I explained, throwing my trash away and going back to stand next to Seth, who looked like he wanted to ask more. “Does that mean you might find your chosen then too?”
I shook my head with a small smile. “My case is different since my mother put a spell on me preventing me from finding mine. Cause when a witch finds their chosen, they, in turn, get stronger or gain more power.” But she only put that spell on me cause she didn’t want to get stronger than her.
Got to love mother, quite a cruel woman to her own family but not her lovers. I remembered one time when I was little, she saw me cast a little spell only for it to be stronger than I had intended. Her eyes full of hate only greeted me when I went to tell her about it.
Ignoring those memories I looked up to see them looking worried but I just smiled and waved it off. “I’m gonna go so talk to you later!” I called, already out the door, going home. They shouted their goodbyes and then I easily opened a portal to take me to where the stream was. The moment I went through it the portal closed right behind me. I strolled through the forest on my way home, softly humming to myself. I made it past a downed tree when Edward suddenly appeared right in front of me. Jumping in surprise I quickly learned to calm down my heart fast.
I went to open my mouth to greet him but he picked me up and started walking in the opposite direction I was heading. “I need to talk to you.” Was all he said, as he continued to walk, before hoisting me up higher, so I wrapped my arms around his shoulders to hold on as he ran somewhere.
As he ran I thought if I made him mad or something and nothing was coming to mind. Was it something I said? But I hardly spoke with him, since he started to hang out with Bella. Feeling a shiver go down my spine due to the cold wind, I leaned more into him, burying my face into his neck.
Did something happen and he just wanted to talk? My mind kept racing as he ran until we made it to a clearing. No sooner did we make it there than I leaned away to see him staring at me. “Are you ok?” I asked, starting to get worried the more he continued to stare at me.
My heart started to speed up as I debated on flipping out of his arms and walking away since he won’t say anything. His arms tightened on me, pressing me more against him. That got my heartbeat to skyrocket, trying to hide the blush on my face, by turning it away from him. “Mind putting me down? You said you needed to talk to me?” I questioned, slowly kicking my feet in hopes that he does.
He sighed before finally putting me down. “Ok, what is it that you wanted to talk about?” It was quiet then he just started to pace in front of me. “I wanted to talk to you about something but I didn’t want anyone else to hear. Sorry for scaring you.” He apologized as he continued to pace, this time with a smile. Glad he seems to be back to himself.
Watching him pace I waited patiently as he seemed to try to get his thoughts in order. I hid a smile as I thought he looked cute when he is concentrating so much. He looked anxious about whatever he wanted to talk about and didn’t look like he could calm down, his smile went away as well.
What could he be worried about? Melancholy started to fill my heart the more I watched him pace. I wonder if there is anything I can do to help. Taking a breath I got in front of him and softly cupped his cool face, tilting it down to face me. “I don’t know what is causing you to get this scared or something. But I am here if you need someone to listen.” I tried to comfort him, slowly brushing my thumb against his face as our eyes never left the other, even though my bangs covered my eyes.
I waited, contemplating if I did something wrong as he just stared at me, his eyes softening the longer he looked at me. He then placed a hand against my cheek, softly petting my cheek. “I…” He started, looking hopeful and scared.
Nodding my head for him to continue, he looked like he was about to when he jerked his head to the side and glared. I followed his gaze to see Emmett and Jasper, both poking their heads around a tree staring at us. “Never mind,” Edward whispered, backing up from me, turning to leave.
Emmet and Jasper walked over sheepishly, “Sorry about that.” Emmett apologized, eyeing the way Edward had ran. “Didn’t mean to interrupt you guys just wanted to see if he had the guts.” He added, I went to ask what he meant but then Jasper elbowed him.
“Don’t mind Edward. I'm sure he will be back to normal by tomorrow.” They both avoided my eyes when I tried to make eye contact with them. “Ok,” I mumbled in defeat. Without another word from them I waved and teleported back to my house, heading to my bed and flopping on it.
Trying to think if I did do something wrong or not. And why did Emmett and Jasper want to come to see? Was it a prank? I felt a knife in my heart at the thought of it being a joke but shook it away, knowing Edward isn’t like that.
“I’ll just ask him tomorrow,” I whispered to myself.
The next day was a weekend so I walked over to their house, fully ready to ask Edward what happened in the clearing only to find that he wasn’t home. Well, I’ll have to ask him another time. I headed up to Asher’s room and knocked before entering to sit on the bed. “Hey, Luna. What’s up?” He asked, staring as I silently took off my shoes and just laid on his bed, staring at the ceiling.
Not wanting to lie to him, I tilted my head to face him. “Nothing much, just wondering about something.” “And what’s that?” He posed, coming to sit on the edge of his bed. That Edward seems to hate me and wants me to leave him alone. “Wondering why caring for someone has to be hard.” A weight on the bed had me rolling into the middle to lean against Asher.
We were silent, pondering what can be said. “It does suck huh?” That had me jerking to face him. His sad smile made me want to hug him. “Knowing that you might not be the right person for them, and not wanting to ask them about their feelings in fear that they might reject you.” Yes, it does suck. I reached over and poked his cheek. “Maybe all you need is a little push. And you never know what someone is feeling for you unless you ask them.” I consoled him, continuing to poke his cheek trying to get him to smile.
It worked after a bit. “Maybe. But how would you even get around to talk to them about that?” I shrugged as I sat upon his bed to lean against his wall. “Go right up to them, tell them how you feel, and know that at least you told them!” He jolted up to gawk at me. “Really?” he asked, in disbelief.
Seeing his expression full of hope I let a small smile grace my lips. “Who knows. But I’m sure if you talk to them about it then they will answer you.” I said, confidently knowing that anyone that Asher will like, will be a nice person.
His face turned red as he looked away, burying his face in his knees. “Easy for you to say.” His voice muffled by his knees. Reaching over, I messed with his hair, getting him to look up to glare at me. “It will be ok,” I assured him, to which he nodded, and then our stomachs growled.
We took the moment to look at our stomachs than at each other before bursting into laughter. “Come on let’s get some food.” He rolled out of his bed, while I stood up and walked over to the edge before hopping off. “How did you do on that test we had?” I heard him ask as we headed to the kitchen.
“I got 100 on it. But I told the teacher to take off a point cause I didn’t want to be a top student, cause then I would have to give a speech at graduation and-” I shuddered at the thought “-I would rather not do that.”
Hearing someone laughing as we reached the kitchen I saw that Emmett was still laughing as he sat on the couch. Esme was in the kitchen and went to hand us each a plate that had a sandwich on it.
“Thank you, Esme.”
“Thanks, Mom.”
I took a bite of my sandwich, enjoying the taste as I noticed that Alice was standing by the window, looking outside with a sad expression, and would glance at me every so often. That made me look down at my clothes to see if I passed for her choice of clothing. No, I looked fine, in my jeans and a long-sleeved shirt, with my sweater over it. Tucking a strand of hair behind my ear, I faintly heard the sound of a car's engine stop.
Wonder who it is? Turning back to Asher, I caught a glimpse of Alice looking pained before she walked over to where Jasper was and sat by him. I would have asked who it was only for that to be answered by Edward coming up the stairs with Bella in tow.
She wrapped her arm around his when they reached the top. She giggled as she leaned her head against him. I tried to ignore the feeling of someone grabbing my heart and squeezing it. Asher must have seen my expression but didn’t say anything, he seemed to try to get my mind off of the newest couple and I was thankful for it.
He was able to distract me from looking at them and we got to discussing how the latest movie we watched. How the main character could control people with their minds and that in turn made them want to try to help people.
We talked about the end of the movie where the main character dies to protect the woman he loves. Asher started to tear up remembering it, which got me to pat him on the back. I took out plates away and washed them before putting them on the dish rack. Turning back just in time to see Edward jerk his head to face the tv. I wanted to ask him if he was ok but seeing how Bella seemed glued to him I refrained from it. Don’t want to bother him with his girlfriend.
The feeling of a knife in my heart came back but this time when I looked at them, it twisted as if saying that it will never work out and to give up. I quickly tried to disregard the pain and went to talk to Asher more but noticed the sky getting darker. “I’m gonna get going,” I announced, wanting to leave before the pain got worse.
“See you later!” I called to Asher, heading for the door.
Only I didn’t make it to the door before someone grabbed my hand. Pivoting on the spot to see Asher, staring at me with a blank expression before grinning.
“Go on a date with me!”
Hello, amigo. Thank you so so much for agreeing to doing this.
My name is Gabriela, but my friends call me Luna, Raven and Bella. I'm 16 years old girl from Slovakia 🇸🇰, Libra ♎, 5'9 ft tall and my HP faculty is Ravenclaw.
I have brown-green eyes, dirty blond hair to my shoulders, black glasses and cute gap in my teeth. I am tall and slim cause I am very active and I work out daily. I curse and I love to wear headbands, buns T-shirts and pants. I hate skirts.
I am half Spanish, Russian, and Slovak. These languages are my native languages and I have Spanish and Russian accent since childhood. My family members are from these wonderful countries and I am so proud of it.
If you ask me what I am the most I will say : SPANISH. I am spaniard girl 🤓😝
My personality : I am quiet, shy and introvert but mostly I am optimistic and I enjoy every minute of my life. My bro says that I am the real sunshine in this world. I always smile and I can lift somebody's mood if they feel down. But though, I have quite temper and I am fiesty. I'm stubborn and impulsive.
Likes : As every Spaniard I love dancing and singing but also I love paiting and drawing, inventing and repairing things. I love knitting and meditation and I enjoy play video games. I love to play on my electric/acoustic guitars and piano.
Music: mostly I love Russian and Latino music, I love rap, hip-hop, pop and rock too. AC/DC, Ozuna, Rosalia, Anita, Alvaro Soler, TINI, Kiss, Queen, Depeche mode are my favorite artists.
I have the great fear from rats, clowns and spiders.
I am literally a VAMPIRE. I have white skin, little sharper teeth-fangs and I am allergic to sunlight. Yeah, everybody are afraid of me and they call me freak and monster and I am really sorry for that. But that doesn't stop me from being Happy and myself.
I have one adoptive brother Casey. He's 16 but he's younger. We share the same bedroom. We have separate bedrooms tho. We always speak Spanish.
My grandfather died three years ago and it's so painful for me because we had a special relationship.
Okay, that's everything. Thank you so much for doing this ♥️♥️♥️.
No problem. Hopefully result is at least interesting.
I pair you with: RAPHAEL
- First he notices how tall you are. Cool. He doesn't come across many tall girls. More than that, you are slim but have some built in your body. Not just a stick.
- Raph can tell just with looking at you that you work out. He wants to know your routine and is ready to give tips if you are open for them.
- You have beautiful white skin. Like Snow White.... He won't say it out loud but he loves it. When confessing his feelings he will totally say you have Snow White's fair skin....he will say it better than I do now
- Your cute cap between your teeth? How he has not noticed how cute those are?! Raph will make sure to make you smile and show more of that cuteness.
- Vampire teeth-fangs? Now that is being unfair, you look so badass. How the same person can look so cute and badass? Sometimes just stares at you mouth if you eat something just to get to see them teeth. Raph wants you to bite him when dating.
- Half spanish, russian and Slovak. Your native languages, family roots, and your accent makes you super interesting to him. Exotic. All those languages and speaking English too? You get respect from him. Raph knows bits of Spanish but thats about it.
- He wants you to talk in your natives even if he doesn't understand. Sing, tell story, anything in your natives and your accents.
- Raph will ask tons of questions about the languages, your background and about your family. Will be careful when topic goes around your grandfather. Wants to know about him but won't push you to tell.
- Will totally ask you to taught him some cuss words in your native languages.
- First when you met he thought you are only shy and quiet but oh boy he was wrong! He better not pick up another fight with you too soon again....Yet he would love to fight with you soon. That temper and fire you have makes him smile. Also using your native languages along with english in fight is challenge he accepts.
- Your shyness, quietness is well balanced with your temper and fierceness in his opinion. You both can talk and just listen to each other. No need to fill every space with talk.
- He is kind of pessimistic and grumpy but your positive attitude wonders him. It's like you are the sun that shines and just makes people smile. At least him. Raph wants to spend more and more time with the sun ;)
- Wants to call you and get sunshine come thru a phone. It will make him feel better and makes him see things differently, about himself too.
- After hearing you fear of rats and spiders, Raph will make sure you don't see any of them when you come to the lair. Of course there is his own dad but the rat dad's welcoming and gentle character soothes you soon.
- Raph wants to help you beat clown fear but not to push it. Will do anything in his power to protect you from clown content, for example, avoids horror movies that has clowns when he is with you.
- Someone calls you freak for being who you are? They don't know anything! Bring the morons here and Raph will beat sense into them, literally! You are his beautiful vampire queen and no one messes with you! Will very often call you queen to remind you how special you are.
That's about it! This was my own opinion but I hope you found this at least interesting. Have a wonderful time @nightsoulsworld
Fic Writer Questions
I was tagged by @haztobegood and @becomeawendybird to answer these questions. Thanks, y’all. I am so uncomfortable because I am so bad about talking about my writing.
1) How many works do you have on AO3? 45 - 43 in the 1D fandom.
2) What’s your total AO3 word count?  359,791 (holy shit how did that happen?)
3) How many fandoms have you written for and what are they? 2 fandoms for posted works, - 1D and Twilight. I also have three started Drarry fics and a few original pieces.
4) What are your top 5 fics by kudos? Well - my very top fic isn’t technically my fic, which actually makes me kind of sad that it’s not something that’s wholly mine, to be honest. However, for fics that are solely my writing, my top five are -
Take Your Time (11556 words) Kudos: 688
Day 24: Trust In Me (6737 words) Kudos: 301
As The World Falls Down (1352 words) Kudos: 285
This Fragile Heart (WIP- 4771 words) Kudos: 265
Before It Gets Beautiful (15700 words) Kudos: 245
5) What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending? I would have to say the two fics in the Before it Gets Beautiful ‘verse - only because they’re both open-ended.
6) What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending? LOL Everything else, I suppose. No, Honestly? I’d have to say For Evermore - it is a fairytale, after all.
7) Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you’ve written? Does writing a remake of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast count as a crossover?
8) Do you write smut? If so what kind? I do - but I’m unsure what is meant by ‘what kind’. I write what I like, and what fits the scene/story/characters.
9) Do you respond to comments, why or why not? For the most part, yes. Not always right away, though I am trying to be better about responding sooner. As for why - I honestly would just like to spark conversations with the people who read my stories - I would love it if people would send me asks about my stories, or just talk to me about my writing in general. It’s not as much fun to throw things into a void and pray someone likes it.
10) Have you ever received hate on a fic? Unfortunately yes - several times, both on AO3 and in my asks.
11) Have you ever had a fic stolen? I did when I was still writing Twilight fic.
12) Have you ever had a fic translated? Not to my knowledge, and I don’t allow translations, either.
13) Have you ever co-written a fic before? I have! The aforementioned top kudos fic in my AO3 stats - it was a round robin collaboration with nearly two dozen other writers as a gift for @louandhazaf as a birthday gift. I only knew like 4 of them before that collab, and I’m now honored to call all of them friends.
14) What’s your all time favorite ship? I have two - Ziam and Drarry.
15) What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will? This Fragile Heart. The first chapter is posted on AO3 because I can’t bear the thought of taking it down, but the fandom and circumstances are so much different now than they were when I started writing it, and I don’t think I’ll ever be able to recapture how I felt when I was first inspired to start it.
16) What are your writing strengths? UGGGGGGHHHHH this is the part I hate to talk about... as I’m probably my own worst critic. Based on the comments I receive, I would have to say its believability, dialogue, and descriptions. I do so much research for fics - even short ones - because I want the details right. I love writing dialogue and using it as a means to move the story. And finally, I love writing descriptions that help make the story immersive.
17) What are your writing weaknesses? Probably over-fixating on the details. I also have a tendency to self-edit the shit out of what I write, so it takes me forever to finish things. I legitimately spent over two hours editing one small 1K  scene today because I kept reworking the sentences over and over. Of course, it’s now nearly a 1700 word scene *facepalm*
18) What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic? If you are capable of doing it, I say go for it! I’ve used phrases from other languages in my writing- and made sure to have a native speaker check them for accuracy.  I have a fic I’m working on now where the main character is English, living in New Orleans, and speaking to a Creole co-worker with patois scattered throughout their conversation.
19) What was the first fandom you wrote for? Twilight - I started off writing Jasper/Bella fics, then moved on to Jasper/Edward, Edward/Carlisle, Jacob/Emmett, etc.
20) What’s your favorite fic you’ve written? NONONONONONO!! Don’t do this to me!! It definitely has to be one of my Ziam fics - because I feel like I put so much more into writing them. I’d have to say I have three favorites, honestly - Live a Thousand Lifetimes - because I poured a lot into that fic emotionally, For Evermore - because I had the opportunity to reimagine my favorite fairytale, and my current WIP Shadow Dancing - it’s the longest thing I’ve ever written, and while there is a love story in it, it’s more a story about acceptance, believing in yourself, and knowing your truth.
I’m not sure who has and has not done this, so I’m going to tag a few people - @lightwoodsmagic @so-why-let-your-voice-be-tamed @disgruntledkittenface @a-brighter-yellow
Also you see this, and you want to do it - please consider yourself tagged - and let me know so I can reblog your post!
Ok I'm embarrassed to admit this, but I'm just now copying your Norwegian Bella AU into a text translator, and if you don't already have 50 people in your inbox demanding a translation then shame on ALL OF US because this is glorious! And while Google Translate does have a certain charm (it translated "piper hun ut" as "she beeps") I'm curious to see how you'd put it in English.
Troquantary is referring to this post. In which Bella doesn't speak English.
Fun fact, you're the only one who's gone into my inbox to request this. I was so sad, had the translation half-written and everything, but I was too proud to beg. So thank you, Troquantary, for popping this ask.
As for the dictionary fuckups, sounds about right. I made a few typos, too, that made Google Translate suffer even more. (Such as managing to mix up "henne" (her) and "hendene" (hands), resulting in Aro patting Bella instead of clapping his hands. Poor Google.)
Also, there are a few cultural references and language things that would be lost in the translation, in an attempt to keep them I included notes clarifying things.
Some things, like Aro and Carlisle's very old man way of speaking, are easier said than done to translate, you'll have to bear with me there.
Additional notes are that I added a few things to this version, many of them because translating is hard, but a few because while translating I thought "oh you know what would be much funnier-" and then wrote that.
Alright, without further ado:
When Renée left Charlie she did not go to Florida, she went to Oslo. And she went all in to make her daughter a true Norwegian, hiring Norwegian nannies and making sure never to speak English around the child. Since transatlantic flights are expensive, little Bella Swan rarely got to visit her father, and as such she never did learn what should have been her native language.
She quickly forgot what English she did have in favor of Norwegian, with the exception of words like “Yes”, “No”, and “I’m Bella”.
The few trips she took to visit her father were all the more awkward than in canon since she couldn’t play with the Black kids. Let not the blame fall upon Charlie: he took Norwegian classes and speaks conversational Norwegian. He can’t speak to Renée, because her Norwenglish is incomprehensible even to Norwegians, but he can communicate with Bella.
Not that he’s had a lot of chances to do so.
Bella makes it to seventeen years old, she’s in second grade at Handels* and is a major outsider among the preps there, and then Renée marries a handsome skier**. Together they shall travel the continent all winter to participate in as many skiing races as they can, and in the summer they’ll take gigs at Hurtigruta to see the coast.
*“Handels” is the nickname for an Oslo high school infamous for its pupils being rich and beautiful blonds who are going to be CEOs when they grow up.
**Skiing as a sport is huge in Norway
***Hurtigruta is a famous ferry that travels across the Norwegian West coast
Bella, who sucks at skiing and is too young to work at Hurtigruten, takes the hint.
With dread in her stomach and dictionary in hand she goes to her father in America.
Where she doesn’t speak the language.
Faen.
Charlie gives her a car, and I wish this meta was set in the present because I could have joked about electric cars and the automat only driver’s license*, but Twilight is set in 2005 so I can’t. The car part proceeds without drama.
*An increasing number of Norwegian youth take the driver’s license for automatic cars only, and we’re the country in the world with the highest percentage of electric car purchases.
School is worse than in canon, because she is now a thousand times more sensational than if she was merely the new student. She is from another country! All of Forks keels over with excitement.
To make matters even worse, our girl doesn’t understand a word of what people are saying.
She is too awkward to let them know she doesn’t know English. It’d become a thing, and they might think she’s dumb. To be fair, it’s not good that she’s been through primary, secondary, and now a year and a half of high school and still sucks at English.
So she nods, smiles, mumbles “Hi, I’m Bella” to the new faces, and blushes heavily when anybody says anything.
People assume she’s shy. That’s a bit boring, but oh well.
She has her biology class with the redhead hottie she noticed during lunch. She watched him and his family, they were fascinatingly pretty, but she doesn’t know anything more about them. Sure would have been great if she could have asked the tiny girl (was it Jess?) about them.
Biology proceeds as in canon - Edward badly wants to eat the delicious girl, but fortunately doesn’t.
She runs into him in the office when he tries to switch to another biology lesson, but she has no idea what he’s saying so she only has the suspicion that this somehow concerns her. Which is still uncomfortable, but Bella is probably the problem here. The hottie surely can’t be.
He’s missing from school for a week, Bella finds that weird.
He returns, and to her great horror he starts talking to her.
“Hello”, he says.
Bella dies inside. He’s too handsome!
"I'm Edward Cullen," he continues, and ok, she got that. The hottie is called Edward, that’s good to know. She’s not sure she caught that last name, though, Köln?
He says something else, it’s gibberish to Bella even though she’s concentrating, and at the end there he says “Bella Swan”.
She gulps.
"I'm Bella Swan," she confirms and nods. That should be correct. God, she hopes it’s correct.
He smiles a crooked, boyish smile. She’s awed. She didn’t think it was possible to be so beautiful.
He says something else.
Bella didn’t catch it.
She blushes even harder, she hasn’t been more embarrassed in her life. Here he is, the most handsome guy in all the world, and she has nothing to say to him. Literally, they don’t speak the same language.
She should tell him.
It’s one thing to chicken out of telling the town she doesn’t speak English, but there’s something different about Edward Cullen. He deserves the truth.
But...
He’s the most beautiful person she has seen in her life. He is American, too, so the odds of him knowing Norwegian are microscopical. If he finds out she doesn’t understand a word he says he’ll stop talking to her, and selfish as she is she doesn’t want that.
So with a slightly guilty conscience (but not enough to fess up) she contributes to the conversation with enough words and smiles to pull through. "Yes", "No", "Thank you", and "That's nice".
He is surprised by several of these answers, but instead of giving her odd looks and losing interest he grows more invested in the conversation.
Class ends.
The next day the near accident happens, and he saves her. She is stunned - dear god, did he just pick up a whole car? After teleporting across the parking lot..?
Soon she’s in the ER, and more than a little bit stressed about that fact since she knows the Americans have a terrible healthcare system.
She hopes Charlie has an insurance.
An insanely beautiful man walks into the ER, and Bella is shocked. He is just as handsome as Edward and Edward’s lunch friends!
He introduces himself as Carlisle Cullen, and Bella can only assume this is someone’s older brother. Possibly related to the blonde girl.
He smiles at her, says something, and she answers, "I'm Bella Swan."
He frowns.
That must have been the wrong answer, then.
His hands return to investigating her scalp, and to her great surprise he switches to perfect Norwegian, "kjenner De* noe ubehag når jeg holder her?" Do you feel any discomfort when I touch here?
*De is the Norwegian polite pronoun for “you”. Du = thou = the French tu, and De = you = the French vous. These polite pronouns went out of use in the 1980’s, save for when addressing royal persons, and would be considered antiquated in 2005.
He hurries to add, "Norsk lærte jeg i... fjor sommer. Det var et nettkurs." I learned Norwegian… last year. Online class.
"Hvilket da?" Which one? Bella asks, because Charlie needs to hear about this. The doctor has beautiful, if slightly outdated, pronunciation.
The doctor’s smile turns uncertain. She gets the feeling there’s something he doesn’t want to say. "Husker ikke," I don’t remember, sier han etter en litt vel lang pause.
That’s a shame. And weird.
"De hadde hellet med Dem i dag, som ikke ble truffet av den bilen." You were lucky today, not getting hit by that car. he then says, noticeably changing the subject.
"Det var ikke hell, det var Edward," It wasn’t luck, it was Edward, she replies sharply.
The doctor definitely looks uncomfortable.
She continues, "Han krysset skolegården på et blunk, og plukket opp hele bilen. Jeg så det," He crossed the schoolyard in a moment, and picked up the whole car. I saw it,
The doctor laughs. "Om han kunne det hadde nok gymkarakteren hans vært meget bedre. Nei, frøken Swan*, jeg beklager å si at det høres ut som at De er litt omtåket. Det er helt normalt ved hjernerystelse." If he could do that, his PE grade would be a lot better. No, Miss Swan, I’m sorry to say you seem confused. That’s normal with concussions.
*Addressing a young woman as “frøken” is even more outdated than using polite pronouns.
Why does Bella get the feeling he’s lying?
She’s discharged.
We’ll jump ahead to her trip to La Push - that trip uneventful, since Jacob knows she doesn’t speak English. They stick their hands in their pockets and stare at the sea.
The next day she’s shanghaied to Port Angeles, because apparently she said “Yes” at the wrong time when talking to Jessica (Turns out Jess’s name was Jessica!) and accidentally said yes to a day trip to Port Angeles.
Like in canon she wanders away from the others, and as in canon she is nearly gang raped. And again as in canon she is saved at the last moment by Edward.
He buys her dinner, and she can’t believe her own luck- and misfortune. A date with the most handsome guy on the planet (hence the luck) and she can’t say a word to him (hence the misfortune)!
He says things to her, lends her his jacket, and really this is it for Bella, she’s peaked, life can’t get better than this.
(That’s a lie, it would be better if she spoke English.)
He’s so amazing.
She’s gotten pretty good at navigating conversations with him, so she nods and aha’s her way through.
In his car on the way home the tone takes a more serious turn.
He asks her about something, and it’s a serious question, that much she’s gathered. She answers in the confirmative.
He is silent.
Did she say anything wrong?
(Edward, on his end, just asked if she knows what he is. She said yes, so calmly, not even a trace of fear in her.)
A few days later he takes her out on a walk in the woods.
He shows her a meadow in the woods, and when he steps into it he lights up in the sunlight.
Bella is in shock.
She knew there was something different about him, but- holy cow. This guy isn’t human.
Is she dating a god?
She stumbles into the clearing after him, and they spend a day together where he says things, and she can barely hear any of it (nevermind understand it) because she’s so distracted by how pretty he is.
The next day he takes her to a house in the middle of nowhere. She doesn’t want to guess that this can be where he lives. Surely gods don’t live in houses?
He shows her inside the house, and introduces her for Dr. Cullen and a lady with a name she doesn’t catch.
Bit weird that these two are acting like a couple of parents, they’re far too young and divine for that.
Edward shows her around in an old-fashioned office, and she doesn’t know what to make of i when she sees a painting of Carlisle. Edward launches into a long story when he sees her watching it, unfortunately she doesn’t catch any dates or artist names. At one point she heard the word “suicide”, though, and that’s not good.
She doesn’t get much out of the story.
The baseball game doesn’t happen because Bella didn’t pick up on what Edward wanted and didn’t realize she was being invited to a thing. They spend the afternoon watching a movie instead.
The relationship continues, impeded slightly by communication problems, but she’s mostly able to cover those up.
Until her birthday comes around.
She gets a papercut.
Jasper lunges at her. Edward throws her into a glass table, and then everyone is leaving.
Carlisle is kind enough to switch to Norwegian when he’s stitching up her arm, perhaps remembering the last time she was his patient. "Jasper har ikke vært på dietten vår så veldig lenge." Jasper hasn’t been on our diet for very long.
"Diett?"she asks. She’s never seen Edward eat anything. She wasn’t clear on what the Cullens ate, honestly she thought they were above such things. She was thinking maybe photosynthesis. The knowledge that they apparently eat food astounds her, but diets?
"Dyreblod istedenfor menneskeblod," Animal blood in stead of human blood, Carlisle clarifies.
Whachasay?
Carlisle gives a slight smile. “Jaspers liv som vampyr fikk en brutal start." Jasper’s life as a vampire got off to a brutal start.
...
Vampire?!
Bella’s missed something here.
Oh dear lord, oh fy faen, she has missed something.
“Åja”, uh huh, is all she can say, and suddenly she’s very aware of the fact that she’s sitting there with a bleeding arm.
And Carlisle.
Who is a vampire.
Over the course of the following conversation Bella makes a host of discoveries.
Edward has been a vampire this whole time, and he’s a telepathic vampire. Whether Bella should be a vampire too or not has been a matter of hot debate, but due to religious reasons Edward doesn’t want that.
Carlisle also brings up how Edward died of the Spanish flu.
"Jeg var under den oppfatning at Edward fortalte deg bakhistorien min?" I was under the impression Edward told you my back story? Carlisle asks at one point, and Bella just has to ask very nicely if he’d be so kind as to repeat it.
Turns out the guy is nearly four hundred years old.
Jaha.
Jahahaha jaa ha.
That’s… a lot.
She wanders out of the house in shock, and hardly notices Edward’s strange behavior over the next couple of days.
One day he picks her up at school, and takes her behind the house.
That works out.
He’s a vampire, but he never hurt her. He is endlessly beautiful, perhaps easier to love now that she knows he’s not a god. He’s her Edward, and that’s suddenly easier now that she knows.
They can still be together.
But now that she knows this about him, it’s about time he knows something about her as well.
It’s time to finally be honest with him.
So when he opens his mouth, she opens her mouth as well, but she doesn’t get any further than to “Edward-” before he launches into a monologue.
She’ll have to wait until he’s done before saying her piece. It’s a bit embarrassing, but it doesn’t seem like he intends to stop talking anyway.
And what he’s saying seems to be serious, so it’s probably best to let him finish.
Edward concludes his monologue by kissing her forehead. Then he disappears.
Where did he go?
A big unsure, Bella goes back to the house. She’ll just have to wait until he gets back.
She doesn’t know what to think when Charlie returns from work and tells her the Cullens have all left.
Oh, god.
Edward must have found out she doesn’t speak English.
She made a mockery of him.
He has every right to leave.
Knowing this doesn’t make it any easier to live with.
Bella sinks into a depression.
The hallucinations begin, as in canon, though Hallusinward speaks Norwegian. Thank god for small mercies.
The friendship with Jacob (dictionary in hand) blooms, as someone has to help her see those hallucinations.
The cliff diving happens, and Alice shows up. Bella’s not sure what this is about, but she has gotten good enough at English to know that something bad happened, and Alice wants them to do something.
She’s a bit surprised to find herself on a plane to Italy, though.
Alice tells her to “Run to Edward” and ok, she got that, actually.
So she saves Edward.
After that she’s taken into the sewer, which turns out to house dozens of vampires.
Bella, Edward, and Alice are received in some kind of hall, where an unusual vampire has quite a bit to say. She understands some of what he’s saying, at least the part about “la tua cantante”. She knows a bit about Italian, see, so she knows that he’s talking about a song now.
She wishes she knew the context.
At one point he takes her hand, and appears fascinated by it. She wonders if he’s a palmreader. Not very vampirey, but what does she know.
He asks her a question.
"Yes," she says.
Saying yes has gotten her this far, after all.
But when he lights up and claps his hands together, and Edward and Alice stare at her in shock and betrayal, she knows she must have said the wrong thing.
The two are dismissed from the room before Bella can do or say anything, she’s just listening to Edward make a racket outside in the hallway.
Not good.
The unusual vampire brings her further down in his sewer palace to a basement, and she is given comfortable clothes to wear.
This is getting terrifying.
The vampire leans towards her - and she chickens out.
"Jeg snakker ikke engelsk!" she squeaks. "Non habla ingles!" I don’t speak English.
Han stanser, og ser forvirret ut. "Que- Hva behager*?" I beg your pardon? spør han etter et øyeblikk.
*A very formal, and slightly outdated (you can use it, but people will think you’re putting on airs. And they will be right) way of saying “excuse me?”
Sobbing, Bella tells him the whole story, from how she didn’t want to be the weird kid in school to how she’s now somehow in Italy without knowing why nor what she just agreed to.
When she’s done the vampire starts laughing.
"Dette forklarer jo en hel del," This explains quite a bit, ler han. "Men, kjære Bella, jeg er redd det ikke endrer noe." But, my dear Bella, I’m afraid it changes nothing.
He tells her that she has agreed to serve him and his army of undead warriors into eternity.
Well fuck.
"Du skal få slippe det, når du ikke visste hva du samtykket til - men skjebnen din forblir den samme. Loven er loven." You’re released from that promise, as you didn’t know what you agreed to - but your fate remains the same. The law is the law.
After a moment of silence, during which she looks terrified, he hurries to add, "Vi har en lov. Du må bli en av oss." We have a law. You must become one of us.
A law that Bella Swan has to become a vampire?
People are finally speaking Norwegian, and Bella is still lost. And it’s too embarrassing to keep pestering this poor, polite man with questions.
So she nods.
He gives her a glittering smile, and bites her.
When she wakes, Aro offers her an English course. A language course that, naturally, leads to her staying in Volterra. Why not learn a few more languages while we’re at it, dearest Bella?
Some time later Edward breaks into Volterra to save his Rapunzel, only to barely recognize her now that she’s a vampire who says things. Lots of things, she talks all the time now. WHAT DID ARO DO TO HER.
Too mortified to admit that she never spoke English, Bella claims she’s been brainwashed.
Aro is having too much fun to correct her, and the whole sad affair sets off a regrettable flood of rumors.
Sometimes people ask a thing like “how did it get so big?” This is almost like any meme in the internet and sometimes even whatever is in the Top 10 bestselling books of any list. Due to being a historian of economic thought, I’m study the ascension of the idea of the entrepreneur as a hero, how it happened and its consequences, both good and bad. Therefore, I couldn’t avoid Ayn Rand and Atlas Shrugged. It wasn’t a good experience and I’ll talk more about it under the cut.
I think we all know how much of a controversial person Ayn Rand was. But it worked. She’s one of the most influential writers of the 20th century whether we like it or not. Like, a lot of people say she hates the poor and minorities. It’s even a meme, like there’s a joke SCP that makes everything it comes into contact unnecessarily verbose and one of the incidents was a sticky note written “I hate poor people” that becomes a copy of Atlas Shrugged.
After reading her work, I can safely say these are traps she set up in her own work. Not only that, these traps hide the true problems of her work.
In first place, we need to consider her demographic target. That wasn’t me, if I wasn’t researching, I wouldn’t even bother reading it. Like, I remember I saw in the internet a game called “The Jihad to Destroy Barney” and someone commenting: “because 20-years old thinking they’re funny were obviously the demographic target of Barney the Dinosaur”. Rand knew what her demographic target was, after working in Hollywood for so many years.
One might think that her demographic target was people like her, but it’s wider than that. Through all her book, producers (she doesn’t use the word ‘entrepreneur’, but it’s obviously the same) are the protagonists. Dagny shows her dedication to her railway, always looking for ways to improve it, to hire the best people to work with her, to deliver the best product she can, always treating others with respect. All the producers are people full of passion for what they do. They do not just for the money, they do it to express themselves (but still want/should be paid).
Meanwhile their enemies are the government organs that want to curb them, by introducing legislation to make everything equal, like people are forbidden to be fired, prices are controlled and so on. And they are evil, they are hypocrites who don’t really believe in the altruistic values they spouse or they are too dumb to realize they’re being hypocrites. They are always men in position of power, evil bureaucrats, quisling industrialists, hypocrite union leaders (though the union leader, Fred Kinnan, interestingly is the most sympathetic of the villains, and actually gets away scot free, to the point some think he’s a Galt agent undercover).
Rand aimed for the real life entrepreneur identify with the “heroes”. All the companies have names of their founders in their titles, Taggart Terminal, d’Anconia Copper, and so on. Their enemies show their true faces by naming themselves with abstract titles, like National Union and so on. She aimed the person who ever had to deal with the Health Department, with the Labor Department, who has to fills forms and more forms and say “Wouldn’t the world be a terrible place if it wasn’t for you? Wouldn’t it be wonderful if you didn’t have to do all of this? If you just had the opportunity to truly express yourself? Free from the prying eyes of government inspectors? Rejoice, because I have the answer!”
Rand answers this with the Galt’s Gulch – a utopia of freedom, where the word “give” is taboo, while leaving the outside world of looters and moochers to destroy itself. All the producers are gathered to escape the terrible collectivist world around her. Everyone has money and, since they’re all enlightened by the principles of greed and selfishness, the prices are small, even symbolic. Monopolies are good and rivals are always being taken down, and they rejoice with it, both winner and loser, because they contributed to the expansion of human spirit.
When John Galt says “I swear – by my life and my love of it – that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine”, he’s implying all men who belong to this valley. They are not ashamed of taking low jobs, because they know their true power is what they do with their minds and hands. Francisco is shown to be perfect in everything he does, makes one think he’s a Gary Stu, but it’s because, according to the book’s philosophy, if you’re a true man, anything you do you become the best. For this reason, Galt’s Gulch is quite diverse, because it has not only industrialists, but also factory workers and small businessmen who share their ideals. And not only workers, but also artists, intellectuals and others.
This is why I think the argument “this books hates poor people” might not be accurate. The low worker whom Eddie Willers meets in the beginning is actually John Galt in disguise. This I think it’s the most important part to understand why Atlas Shrugged was so influential with small businessmen when published: John Galt is where the Übermensch and the Everyman meet. “Who is John Galt?” Anyone can be John Galt – the same way anyone can be Bella Swan, anyone can be Ritsuka Fujimaru (at least before the 5th singularity), anyone can be Kirito Kirigaya – the idealized self of the entrepreneur.
Thus, one is not born a “man”, but becomes one. Dagny and Hank’s entire character development is to become “men”, to learn to love themselves more than what they create, no matter how passionate they are. This contrasts with Eddie Willers, Dagny’s right hand man, probably the most tragic character of the tale.
Eddie loved the railway just as Dagny. He’s been her friend for so long, and even developed feelings for her. But the book constantly observes that Eddy doesn’t have the capacity to lead something as important as a railway. But he does it nevertheless, dedicating all his resources and passion for the railway. But, unlike Dagny, he doesn’t learn to look for greater things. Thus, he ends the novel stuck in a railway, defeated and probably left to die.
This is controversial, so much everyone still discusses his fate. In the movie adaptation, they deviate from the novel by having the heroes making a point to rescue him from his fate. In Jennifer Burns’s biography, she mentions a letter Ayn Rand received asking about Eddie and she replies that in a collectivist society, Eddie would’ve perished, while in a free one he’d be living okay. Nevertheless, this reveals a truth about that world: not everyone will become a “man”. Eddie would never become a “man”.
Since pity is against Galt’s doctrine, Eddie cannot be pitied. He has to live under the mercy of his Galtian overlords. He has only two options: either worship the feet that trample him, expecting his breadcrumbs fall from their banquet table, or to question his place in the world, thus denying that A is A, and be trampled harder. It really doesn’t matter his kindness, his dedication, he’s not a “man”, and thus has more in common with the looters and moochers than the heroes. Thus, if Eddie ever becomes an obstacle to the productive forces, even if unintentionally, he has to be trampled.
While one might think that I’m being unfair, it should be reminded that Ayn Rand openly advocated the people who were killing Natives during the American expansion to the West were doing nothing wrong. The Natives were actually privileged for being trampled by the productive forces, thus creating the great nation. The same argument can be made for the colonized people and even to the “essential workers” of this pandemic – since apparently people who take this book seriously are one of the most resistant forces to lockdowns and mask mandates, you can guess why.
And this is why Rand hated the environmental movement, because it puts an obstacle to the productive process. Nature can only react with deaf indifference to Galt’s speech. For Rand, this is unforgivable. Would it be surprising if oil tycoons were fans of Rand’s work?
In the end, the producers execute their revenge against the world that rejected them. Galt’s speech caused a lot of disturbance and the last chapters deal with its consequences, with more villains being evil for no reason and more showing how awesome their heroes are. Galt becomes more and more like Jesus, even with a gnostic Judas in Dagny helping him. In fact, in the funniest part of the book, where it comes THIS close from being self-aware, he says to his tormenters, when they asked to cooperate with him: “It took me three hours on the radio to tell me why”. It gave me angry laughter.
In the end of the day, what matters? This is a work of fiction, where caricatures of men and women fight each other. The entrepreneurial process works nothing like described in the book. It takes a naïve view of selfishness, upon saying that if everyone was selfish the world would be a better place, when in reality, if you expect selfishness, it’s what you’ll get.
It’s never explained how they invented their inventions, only that they did it and it’s awesome. The One-Man Industrial Revolution trope is one that I loathe a lot, because it misrepresents the innovation process. It requires so many factors, including government funding – scratch that, it REQUIRES government funding because technologies like touch-screen used to be so risky that no private company would take seriously and government can fund because it doesn’t go bankrupt the same way. Even if we take it as a metaphor, it doesn’t work when you stop to think.
Rand belongs to the same class of writers as Stephenie Meyer and Christian Weston Chandler. But she wanted to influence the world, she wanted it to be more than entertainement, much more. Thanks to her publishing network and appeal to real problems, she did it. This is why the problems of her work require critique. And I hope anyone reading this try to understand better what “relatability” means, this is what relatability can do. Stop trying to look for relatability everywhere, let it just come naturally and if it doesn’t come enjoy the story!
How to Parent Your Children to Be Multilingual
As a German native speaker who speaks English all day long, I find the prospect of bilingual parenting both daunting and fascinating.
I have been contacted by so many different parents over the years for advice on how to raise your children to be multilingual.
First of all, I am so happy to hear that parents are interested in teaching languages to their kids early on. I hear from so many of my students that they wished they would have begun to learn languages earlier in life, so this will make a huge difference in their life.
One thing’s for sure: Raising multilingual children is as challenging as it is rewarding.
After consulting many bilingual parents (full list below) and learning from dozens of professionals in bilingual parenting, I have collected 6 tips for you to help you start parenting your children to be multilingual.
Tip #1: Don’t Expect Them to Be Good Right Away
Your young child does not need to be good at speaking a language, if it is clear they are doing it. Taking away this pressure is what will keep language learning fun for them and keep the curiosity brewing.
Rather than correcting them and making them repeat words and phrases over and over, keep encouraging them to step out of their comfort zone. Making them aware that there are other languages out there in the world will be a huge step.
Tip #2: Exposure Matters More Than Perfection
Exposure really matters, much more than hitting some perfect system or having them “perform” languages beautifully. (The same goes for adults too, by the way.)
Exposing your child to your target language means you can get far with accessible practices like multilingual music, TV/YouTube, and storybooks.
Several generations of learners have told me that Muzzy was their first spark of love for languages. You might start with their favourite TV show in another language (Peppa Pig is a big hit apparently), or read a bilingual story together (try Tim Tim Tom for example).
There are so many different avenues and resources out there to expose your child to other languages in a playful way that they are going to enjoy.
Tip #3: Get Involved Within the Community
Could you get your kids involved in communities where other languages are spoken within the neighbourhood? Chances are, you aren’t the only person in your neighborhood or community who is trying to learn a new language, and there is hidden linguistic diversity everywhere.
You can reach out to other families you know by searching in Facebook groups or connect with your local community. Connect your child with other children who are learning to be multilingual and set up play dates where they can read books, have playtime, or watch their favorite TV shows together in the target language.
Everything is better with a buddy!
Tip #4: Have Language Time
Having specific language time is very helpful for adults, and the same goes for children. This means setting up a dedicated time of the day or of the week where you are only speaking the target language.
This could be 30 minutes after school where your child is telling you about your day, during bath time or at the dinner table.
Tip #5: Try the “One Person, One Language” Strategy
The one person, one language approach is where one person in the family speaks solely one language within the family. It’s very common when parents have two native languages, meaning each parent only speaks their first language with the child.
But even if you are NOT a native speaker of the language you want to share with your child,
Doing this strategy consistently gives the child the expectation that all of their interactions with this person is to be in a specific language, so there are no surprises and they start to develop confidence. This also helps to make sure that your children are receiving continuous exposure and interactions in different languages.
Tip #6: You Aren’t Going to Do It Wrong
No matter what, know that you aren’t doing this wrong! You know your child best and what will work most efficiently for them to learn and interact.
While some parenting experts swear by “OPOL” above all other strategies, it’s important to remember that there are plenty of right ways to do something.
The very fact that you are taking your time and energy to teach and expose your child to a new language is a beautiful thing and something they will be thankful for later in life.
Thank you for sharing the world of languages with your children! 🙏
Hang ‘Em High {Arthur Morgan x FemOC} Chapter 6
Tumblr media
Pairing: Arthur Morgan x FemOC Summery: Belle Hawthorne is high society looking to escape her mean husband. A robbery by the Van Der Linde gang could be her chance. Can she escape his cluches and possibly discover what love should feel like?
Warnings: Animal death, mentions of domestic assault and abortion.
AN: This is a long one, hope you enjoy :)
. . . . .  A few days had passed in the camp, many were busy either around camp or out on jobs to bring in money. Mary-Beth and Tilly explained to me what the jobs would entail, most of the time putting themselves in serious danger. Having enough to get by wasn't enough, especially for Dutch, occasionally giving smooth worded speeches to everyone like he was the Mayor of a grand town. He wanted more money, a lot of it for everyone to live a life of luxury. Arthur had recently returned from Strawberry to rescue a member of the gang i had not yet met, but had been warned about. Apparently the rescue mission didn't go as smoothly as planned. Arthur aimed to get him out of jail and out of Strawberry with minimum confrontation. The other guy had different plans. As I sat on my bedrole in my small tent stitching one of his shirts, the very man I'd been warned about approached.“I’m almost done with your shirt Micah.” i smiled politely at him, not wanting to get on his bad side from the get go but hoping to stay cautious while around him.He leaned against the tree beside my tent, lighting a cigarette as he did so.“So where did they pick you up from?” He looked towards me and it was then I realised everything he might say would be laced with venom. “Saint Denis. More of a rescue than a pick up.” I returned my attention to the task in hand. He blew out a cloud of smoke in my direction, the smell of cheap tobacco filling my nose. It was his way to invade my space without being too forward. I wouldn't let it bother me, what with the many social gatherings that involved being in rooms filled with smoke and smoking myself on those occasions. He let out a breath, a sigh, before pushing himself off the tree and walking away, but not before muttering words he still made sure I could hear. “Another deadweight to feed.”  All I could do was chuckle to myself, cutting the thread in my hand with a knife. Deciding that he didn't deserve my effort to achieve perfection. By late evening I joined the others around the campfire, sitting next to Charles and Karen, the former handed me a freshly opened beer bottle. I was so used to expensive French wine, chilled in an ice bucket. I've gotten used to so much these last few weeks, living in the wild. The thought before would scare me half to death but I soon found it was different with a sense of family around you. Growing up i was taught the life of a gang of outlaws was a brutal one, the men being fueled and finding joy in murder, rape and theift, nothing more than monsters that have no care for anything other than themselves. I was never told that sometimes they could be people out of luck, born and raised without security and certainty, needing to do what they could to get by with the hope that they could one day, live without worrying when their next meal could be. These people around me all have terrible backstories and that's what brought them together, with the hopes of a better future as long as they fight for it together, even if that meant doing bad things.
I was the opposite, my life was paved out for me from the day I was born. To learn to be a loving and doting wife and mother. We never had to worry about our next meal, always knowing it would be fresh and grand. I was also lucky that my father wanted to teach me some of what he would teach my two older brothers, mainly hunting and how to care for our horses. I was so lucky, I was privileged. Javier brought out his guitar and started singing in his native tongue, some of us swaying to the tune. I heard of Charles and Arthur going out to hunt tomorrow, this was my chase to ask to join with them.I turned my attention to Charles, tapping him lightly on the arm for his attention to turn to me. “Everything okay Bella?” “I heard you and Arthur are going on a hunt tomorrow.” “We are. At first light. You wanting anything in particular?” “Is it possible that I join you both? I know how to use a bow, father taught me and it’s...it’s been a while...i’d love to hunt again.” I looked at him with pleading eyes as he took a swig from his bottle before turning to me with a soft smile. “Of course, always happy to have someone else along that knows what they are doing.” I couldn't play down my happiness, grinning from ear to ear and professing my thanks to Charles. I sipped the rest of my warm beer before saying my goodnights to the ones remaining around the fire and to Charles that I'll see him at first light. I tried my best to prevent a skip in my step as I made my way to my bedroll, excited for sleep and the day ahead. ….. The sun was barely making an appearance when I woke, stretching out my limbs before readying myself for the day, thankful to Sadie for offering me a pair of her pants she didn't want. Not only was I able to get out and do something I enjoyed, being amongst nature, but I was able to do something to help the camp other than repairing clothes and washing dishes.   Making my way over to the coffee pot I saw Arthur was already there, sitting on a log near the now burnt out fire, coffee in hand.  “Morning” He jumped slightly and turned to me, watching as I poured myself a hot cup.  “You're up earlier than usual.” He turned his attention back to his cup as I sat beside him. “I’m coming hunting with you...and what do you mean earlier than usual? You been watching me Mr Morgan?” I took a sip, Arthur spluttered his, seemingly trying not to choke on the burning liquid. “What?...no...just...i'm usually first awake is all.” I smiled in my cup, hopefully hiding my slight giggle. A man of his size and how intimidating he can seem, he sure can get flustered easily, his cheeks turning a muted shade of pink. It was fun. We finished our coffee and made our way over to Charles and the horses, getting them saddled up. “You feel well enough to ride yourself Bella?” Charles asked, tightening the saddles girth so it fit snugly but comfortably around the horse.  “I'm sure I'll be fine…” I looked over to Arthur, grinning “...I won't be falling off anytime soon.” “Take Johns horse, he won't be needing her today.” Arthur pointed over to the horse mentioned and I made my way over to sadde her. .….. The ride out into the heartlands towards Cumberland Forest was pleasant, the morning sun warming the earth and birds filling the air with their song. It was peaceful,the most peaceful I've felt in a long while. Still nothing of the attempted robbery or information about my disappearance had been read or heard of. Maybe Arthur was right, maybe Frank didn't care that i was gone, maybe he thought i was dead. I hope he did. We made it to the spot at Cumberland Forest and hitched the horses within the outskirts, hidden from view. Arthur let me use his bow, saying he was better with a rifle anyway. The three of us walked further into the forest, making sure to keep an eye and ear out for bears that roam the area. “Why don't we split up?” Charles suggested in a hushed toned as to not to disturb the surrounding wildlife. “Sure. Bella can come with me, might not need to use the rifle if she don't miss.” Arthur smirked. My expression one of mock disgust and punching him lightly in the arm. Granted I might be a bit rusty, it had been a couple of years since I hunted or even held a bow, but I'm sure once I get my mind focused it will be like second nature. Another thing I hope for.  Charles moved further into the forest, me and Arthur moving closer to the Dakota river. The forest was tranquil and busy at the same time, the smell of pine and aspen filling my nose, the intense gaze of the sun being softened by the green blanket above, lighting everything in an orange hue. Any light that broke through the leaves lighting up in patches on the ground, able to see the suns daily path across the dirt from the sections of thick grass and various plants. Songbirds and sparrows weaving through the labyrinth of branches, hunting for bugs and seeds as they sang their love songs. For a moment it felt like we were the only people in existence as we walked in a comfortable silence. As we neared the river Arthur lifted his hand for attention then pointed ahead. Two whitetail deers drinking from the river. We crouched down, keeping out steps slow and light as we neared them. Once we stopped Aarthur looked to me, giving a nod for me to take my aim. I nocked the arrow, drawing it till the string resisted, keeping my chin low and feet steady, Arthur giving a soft whistle to get their attention. Two breaths and releasing on the exhale, the arrow flew to the mark, hitting the deer through its right eye, killing it instantly. I breathed in a huff of triumph as Arthur smiled at my glee. We made our way over, Arthur pulling on the animal readying to lift it. “Maybe i didn't need the rifle.” “Didn't trust me?” we smirked at each other, both pleased that we got a kill so soon. Arthur whistled for his horse as I gazed out at the river, hoping to see another distracted deer. He wrapped the animal in rope and secured it onto the back of his horse but we soon realised we were not paying proper attention to our surroundings as we should have. A guttural roar came from the thick forest behind us, too close for comfort. Before we had any time to react a mass of fur and teeth was bounding out of the treeline towards us, its black eyes trained on me. Fight or flight instincts kicked in, my legs pushing my back into a run, tripping over a river rock as I turned, planting straight into the river. I knew I couldn't get up quick enough, legs still pushing me backwards but failing to get traction, arms stretching out in front of my face like I could stop the beast with my own hands. Just as it was above me, staring down the cavern that was a throat, a crack of thunder rang out in my ears, echoing into the distance. The beast above me ceased and dropped on my legs, red splattered on my pants, shirt and no doubt my face.I looked at the stilled bear with wide eyes and then over to Arthur, rife in hand. My breathing steadying as I came down from the shock of what just happened and pushing the animal off me to stand. “Maybe you did need that rifle.” i giggled, looking towards Arthur, his eyes full of concern but a smile creeping on his face at my attempt to bring humor to the situation. I wasn't just covered in bear blood but soaked from landing in the river. I tried to shake off what I could and wring out the water from my shirt. Arthur walked over holding out a dry shirt for me to take. “I always carry fresh on my horse. Better than being soaked through completely.” I took the shirt and muttered a thanks, making my way out of the river and onto dry land, Arthur making a start on skinning the bear and whistling over Johns horse . The cold breeze hit my wet skin, making me shiver so I wasted no time in removing my drenched shirt, peaking over my shoulder to make sure he was distracted before also removing my camisole, now bare from the waist up. Pain shot up my side due to my hurried pace, letting out a quiet gasp, looking down at the still present bruise on my ribs, less angry, but persistent nonetheless. “There's trees right there y’ know.” My moment of pain must have caught his attention. Embarrassment flushed to my cheeks and I quickly pulled on his shirt and buttoned it up. It buried my small frame, stopping mid thigh, and it smelled like him, the faint hint of tobacco and gunpowder. “Scared.” “Why?” “Bears.” He huffed a laugh, lifting the bear hide and stowing it on johns horse. Both of us mounted up and started making our way to Charles' horse, silently deciding that was enough hunting for us today.Once there we built a campfire and I sat as close to it as comfortably possible, drying off my pants and sharing some fresh bear meat between us. We both were lost in thought, sitting in silence across from each other as we ate. I decided to break the silence with another request.
 “Teach me to shoot properly?” it came out as both a demand and a question.He just looked at me while he chewed on the meat, the flames dancing over his face.“Father taught me how to handle a pistol, but i want to be sure i can protect myself...against bears...and people.”  “You never went hunting after bein’ married?” I shook my head and sighed, looking down at the unfinished meat in my hands. “No. Frank wouldn't allow it. He would say the only things women are for are cooking, breeding and fucking.”   “The more I learn about him, the more I wish I'd shot the bastard.” The anger in his tone was evident and with no hint of doubt.  We sat in silence, the midday sun now high in the sky. He seemed to be lost in thought for a while before opening his mouth wanting to say something before changing his mind. I looked to him expectedly, wanting him to say what he wanted. His eyes locked with mine, knowing I was giving my permission to speak his thoughts.After a brief moment of silence, he finally broke it. “I...those...those scars ya have. They from him too?”  So he did see. I hummed in response before giving him a proper answer. “My broken ribs weren’t from falling off your horse either. A lesson for flirting with the bastard on the balcony.” “Jesus” “He was so kind when we first met before getting married, always sending me gifts, flowers, jewelry. Written love letters and saying that he was building a stable at our future home, a homecoming gift for his sweetheart…” Arthur didn't speak as I paused, instead standing to retrieve something from his saddlebag before making his way around the fire to sit beside me, handing me a bottle of Bourbon. I smiled as I took it, opening it and taking a few gracious gulps, feeling the burning sensation trickle down my throat. “...He gradually changed after only being married for a few weeks. Dictating what i could wear and what hobbies i could indulge in, preventing me from seeing or talking to my childhood friends. Then the beatings would start getting worse... the assaults...eventually i couldn't sleep out of fear of what was to come when sharing a bed with him.” I took in a shaky breath, willing my tears not to breach. “Couldn't ya have returned to ya parents?” I shook my head before taking another swig and handing the bottle back to him. “I wanted to but...i was married off to him because my parents were struggling with the farmlands after three bad winters. Franks promised financial support in exchange for my hand. He even ceased all contact with them after only a month. I wrote letters to them but I never got one back. I have no idea what happened. Frank knew I wanted to leave so he promised to force a baby into me. That way, I'd have no choice but to stay with him.” I didn't know why i was telling Arthur all this, maybe because i knew it would help to get it off my chest, maybe because i felt like i could trust him. I didn't want pity, I realised, just a listening ear, someone to lend me their comfort for a little while.I hesitated before continuing. Arthur's eyes on me like I was a lost puppy, reaching out my hand for the bottle again he passed it to me without a word. I took another sip for courage, or so I couldn't feel the pain of reliving my horror. “I ended up falling pregnant. When I found out early on, I was more terrified in that moment than I had been in my life. He was elated of course, finally getting what he wanted. I knew he would be a horrible father, knew he wouldn't think twice about lifting his hand to a child. So I decided I couldn't let that happen. Had a doctor visit while he was on an overnight business meeting, some of his practices a known secret amongst many women.” Tears silently flowed as I stared into the growing flames of the fire. A hand placed gently on my knee for comfort and in understanding. “Did...did he find out?” “Told him I lost it. He shot my horse as punishment for being a failure of a woman.” “Bella...I’m sorry” It was barely above a whisper, anything louder and i might shatter like century old glass.He drew circles on my knee with his thumb as I wiped away the fallen tears. I made a silent vow never to cry over that man again, not to let him take up space in my mind. Absentmindedly I leaned into Arthurs touch, his shoulder meeting my temple, breathing in my first steady breath, Arthur wrapping his arm around me.
Young Soul
For Star Wars POC Week 2020
Day 5: Family
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Summary: After 8 years, Ava Lira and Eva Bella Young has reunited with their mother, Kaia Young on Chandrila and learned about their deceased father.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Come on, Lira,” Eva groaned as she knocked on her door, clinching both her dolls. “We don’t want to miss the first bus.”
“Hold your horses, Evie,” Lira talked back. “I’m trying to pack up.”
“Well, you should have done that yesterday when I got back from Mortis.”
“Ugh, stop nagging me. You’re annoying.”
She took a deep breath and crossed her arms as she was about to step inside her room when Lira popped out, with her backpack and her extra slingbag, which carried her gadgets and gizmos that she made out of trash. “Now I’m ready.”
“You took too long,” Eva slapped her arms. “Do you know how long it will take from the Jedi Temple to the cargo bay?”
“It takes twenty minutes, Evie,” Lira rolled her eyes as they both walked on the empty corridor, with no one up early in the morning, except for a few, who were too tired to even care about where the twins were even going in the first place. “I’ve read the map like fifty times.”
“If you read the map fifty times, then why do you have to be super slow in preparing yourself?”
“I prepare myself. I just forgot a couple of things, that’s all.”
“That could have been prevented if you prepared yourself earlier on.”
Lira let out a groan of frustration. “Whatever, you sound just like Obi-Wan sometimes.”
“Well, maybe it’s for the best.”
As they finished their conversations, the identical twins with red hair and almond-shaped eyes stepped outside the Temple, where they were greeted by Commander Tori, who only had her bottom half of her clone commander on, along with her black top. “So, where are you girls heading today?”
“Just take us to the cargo bay,” Lira answered, grabbing the backseat. “We need to fly out of Coruscant as soon as possible.”
“And why is that?” Tori raised her eyebrows. “Are you guys meeting someone important?”
“It’s our mother,” Eva spoke, with a frown. “We haven’t seen her since we were three years old and it is urgent that we have to get to Chandrila.”
Being a clone trooper, Tori doesn’t know about being separated from a parent from a young age, but one thing she understood is family and bonding. Being close to Rex, Cody, Mayyah, and Minnie, who were her siblings, not being able to see them for a long period makes her anxious and depressed, and it is what the twins are currently experiencing right now.
“Of course, girls,” she gave a nod, driving off from the Temple. “But do your masters know about this?”
“They’re at the battlefield, again,” Lira said, glancing at the dark, morning sky, with the sun not rising from the horizon and the cool wind blowing in their surroundings.
Tori sighed. It’s been a year since the Clone Wars had begun and day by day, she noticed that the relationship between the girls and their Jedi Masters had slowly dwindled, without both of them realizing it. Lira and Eva loved their masters, obviously, but most of the time, they found themselves closer to Tori than they thought.
Arriving at the cargo bay, Tori escorted both of them inside and stepped inside the ship, sitting beside them. If the girls had to see their mother, she won’t let them go by themselves, with the danger of the outside world much worse than what they watched on cartoons every Saturday morning.
“So,” Tori breaks the awkward silence between them. “Does your mother know that you both are visiting her today?”
Eva nodded. “Yes, Tori. We managed to find her phone number in the yellow page and commed her immediately. She’s very nervous to see us both.”
“Oh, well, that’s good to hear. Now tell me, what does your mother work as?”
“She worked at The Angel Inn,” Lira informed, showing her the pages that she found the other day. “It only opens at night, so we have ample time for Evie and me to spend time with her.”
She read Kaia Young’s comm and noticed the place was listed down as a brothel on Chandrila, making her cheeks turn hot. Should I tell them the place where her mother worked, or should I just keep quiet and let their mother come clean about her job?
She heard about her brothers and sisters visiting brothels on Coruscant, and getting kicked out of the place when they realize that their service isn’t free at all. Choerry was a fine example of a clone trooper who was banned from a brothel. Tori could only grumble, but at the same time, it amuses her as well.
“Oh, that’s fascinating to hear, girls,” she smiled. “I can’t wait to meet your mother as well, even though I don’t know much about her.”
“She’ll love you, Tori,” Lira cuddled next to her. “Trust me, I told her about you and she’s excited to see you as well.”
A civilian excited to see a clone like me? Well, that’s unexpected. “Oh, I’m sure she’s a kind lady like the both of you.”
“She is.”
After a few hours on board, the ship jumped out of hyperspace and landed on the planet’s surface. The Chandrilan skies were coloured with sapphire, with the golden, glistening sun shining above the white clouds. Despite that, the natives, which was ninety-six per cent of humans, didn’t feel too hot or too cold and were enjoying the weather.
The three of them emerged from the station with their bags when they noticed a woman in her 30s, with jet black hair and almond-shaped, dark honey eyes, along with fair skin and bow-shaped lips, which shared similar facial features as the twins. Eva, who recognized her, ran up to her and wrapped her arms around her torso. “Mama!”
“Evie, is that you?” her mother spoke, recognizing her 11 years old daughter. “Look how big you’ve grown. The last time I remember you, you were so tiny.”
“Mama!” Lira called her, hugging her as well. “We miss you so much.”
“Well, I miss you both as well,” she grinned, kissing their foreheads. She stood up and noticed Tori’s presence, and offered to shake hands with her. “And you must be Tori. The girls have said nothing but good things about you.”
“They always say good things about everyone,” Tori shook her hands. “The girls have told me about you. It’s a pleasure to meet you, Mrs Young.”
Kaia let out a chortle. “Oh, no, Tori. I’m not even married at all. You can call me Kaia or miss, whatever makes you comfortable?”
The first-name basis, eh? Now I know where the girls got it from. “Alright then, Kaia. It’s great to meet you, again. Sorry, it’s quite-”
“Awkward?” Kaia finished her sentence, laughing. “Don’t worry about it, Tori. I don’t bite unless you want me to.”
Her eyes widened as her face flushed. “Actually, Kaia, I’m an ace.”
“Tori, I’m just joking with you.”
Wow, she has a sense of humour, just like Lira.
“Anyways, we should head back to my apartment,” suggested Kaia, holding the twin’s hands. “I made something special for the three of you.”
They arrived at her small but cosy apartment, which was filled with potted plants everywhere and vines growing on the grille of the window. A shoe rack was placed beside the door, with the walls painted in mint green, which gave the whole house a calming effect towards the host and their guests.
Lira, Eva and Tori took off their boots and placed their backpacks on a tiny, wooden bench that Kaia found at the garbage disposal and repainted them to make them presentable. The identical twins sat on the brown couch, along with a few tie-dye pillows.
Tori checked out the bookshelf that was leaning against the wall, and found herself picking a book from its place, titled ‘Tales of Handmaids.’ For Tori, it was surprising that a prostitute like Kaia would have a decent place, not too lavish nor seedy. Chandrila isn’t like Coruscant, where people like her would rot in a dangerous alley. Instead, they fared better, even though there are flaws.
“So,” Kaia walked out of the kitchen, carrying a tray of glasses, which were filled with iced lemonades. “How long did it take you from Coruscant?”
“A few hours,” Lira told her, as she took a sip of her drink.
“Huh, that long, eh?”
“Yup,” Tori nodded. “Do you live alone, Kaia?”
“Yeah, it’s just me and all my plants, in my boxed-sized apartment. No one is there to look after yourself, and that is the harsh reality, unfortunately.”
“Isn’t it lonely?” Eva asked. “Living all by yourself.”
“Sometimes, it does, sweetie,” Kaia sat between them, wrapping her arms around their shoulder. “But at the same time, I enjoy the silence once in a while, you know.”
“Don’t you have any friends, or maybe a lover?”
Her mother let out a snort. “I see you know a lot about love, Evie.”
“They know a lot about love and sex,” Tori spoke. “They heard about them from my troops, and even some Jedi.”
“A Jedi having sex?” her eyes widened. “Why am I not surprised? Who told you about the birds and the bees anyway?”
“A friend told us,” Lira replied. “Eva and I accidentally caught him doing the deed with a Senator, so he had to explain everything about it. It was disgusting.”
“Well, I’m sorry that you girls had to see that," mused Kaia. "But at least it's better for you girls to know, rather than being ignorant and making the same mistake that I did when I was younger."
“Oh?” Tori raised her eyebrows. “What about that?”
“Well, it’s too disturbing for the three of you so consider yourselves warned but when I was 16, I was violated by an adult man, and that adult man was a friend of my parents. Instead of believing me, they denounced me and kicked me out of their home.”
“But they’re your family. Why would a family cast out one another? Don’t you guys share the same blood?”
Kaia shook her head. “Tori, your brothers and sisters aren’t the same as mine. Your siblings care for one another and look out for each other, but my family cares only about two things, which are money and ego. My aunts and uncles, my siblings, my parents, fight like vultures when they see gold. They don’t care about your well-being at all. They only know how to back-stab you, that's all."
"That sounds like the Separatist more than a family."
"Indeed, though the Republic has its flaws as well, especially recruiting kids to lead an entire army."
"If I have to be honest," Eva raised her hands. "I don't even know why we are fighting in the first place."
"We were told by the Kaminoans that it's for peace, but I could hardly believe that statement anymore."
"It seems like the people of the Outer Rim are growing unsatisfied towards the government," Kaia sighed, finishing her drink. "Honestly, I won't be surprised if there is a rebellion against them."
Lira and Eva exchanged glances of surprise before their mother cleared her throat. "So, anyone up for a movie?"
"Yes, please," Lira bobbed her head. "Can we watch Rowling's Castle?"
"Of course, sweetie."
As night came, both Lira and Eva were cuddled next to their mother as Tori slept in the right corner of the bed, laying beside the younger twin. The stars above Chandrila were shining as bright as jewellery as the moon above the sky illuminated. “Kinda rare to see this many stars in the city,” Tori commented, counting each one of them with her fingers. “We never get this much on Coruscant.”
“People here value nature,” Kaia told her. “It’s the basis of life. Without nature, we have nothing. No food, no water, no air, just torture and pain.”
“That explains why you have so many plants around your house.”
“Greenery is good for your mental health. Makes you feel calm, especially for a soldier like you.”
Maybe I should follow Daisy’s advice and get myself a potted plant in my barrack then.
“Hey Mama,” Eva called her. “There’s something I need to ask you about and it’s really important.”
“What is it, baby?”
“The other day, my master and I stumbled upon a planet called Mortis, and when I was there, I saw a man with a Jedi robe and long hair. He spoke to me about how I shouldn’t trust too freely and be more cautious with my surroundings. I told my master about him, and he said that he knew who the man was?”
“Okay, what did your master say?”
 “He told me that he was his mentor, Qui-Gon Jinn. Do you know who Qui-Gon Jinn was, Mama?”
The name that her daughter mentioned made her heart smile and sorrow at the same time. She reached for the drawers beside her bed and grabbed a flimsi of her and Qui-Gon together, holding each other’s hand.
“You know him, mom?” Lira gasped as she saw the flimsi.
“I knew him well,” she gleamed. “He was my lover. I met him while I was exploring the forest, searching for wild berries and mushrooms. He was meditating by the river when he noticed me with a basket and a straw hat. After we got to know each other, he would visit me every weekend and slowly, we fell in love.”
“Is Qui-Gon our father?” Eva guessed.
Kaia curved her lips upwards. “Yeah, he was your father. When I got pregnant with the both of you, he was ecstatic and he couldn’t even wait to meet you both.”
Tori’s smile disappeared. She was told that Kaia lived by herself, and she could tell that something happened to him. “There’s no happy ending, isn’t it?”
Kaia shook her head. “Three months before you girls were born, I saw him in an obituary. I was heartbroken that he was gone so soon. I never get to say goodbye to him.”
“Then what happened?” Lira raised her question. “Why did you give us away to the Jedi?”
“It was difficult for me to raise you and Eva, especially with the Child Protection Service chasing after me. I had to choose between losing my job and losing both of you. I wanted both of you to have a better life than I did, so I decided to let the Jedi adopt you both.”
The twins wanted to yell at her for leaving, but at the same time, she had a point. Had their mother continued to raise them, they would have ended up in a broken, foster home, like all the other children.
“I understand, mom,” Eva nodded, letting out a yawn. “We should head to bed.”
“Alright then,” she kissed both Lira and Eva on the forehead. “Goodnight, my love.”
Tori fell asleep as well, knowing that the twins are safe and sound in their mother’s loving embrace.
