I'm re-reading the Discworld series for reasons, and honestly the most relatable part of reading these as an adult is how many of the protagonists start out being tired, used to their little routine and vaguely disgruntled by the interruption of the Plot. Sam Vimes wants to lie drunk in a gutter and absolutely doesn't want to be arresting dragons. Rincewind is yanked into every situation he's ever encountered, though he'd much rather be lying in a gutter too. (Minus the alcohol. Plus regretting everything he's ever done said witnessed or even heard about fourth-hand in his whole life.) Granny Weatherwax is deeply suspicious of foreign parts and that includes the next town over; Nanny has leaned into the armor of "nothing ever happens to jolly grannies who terrorize their daughters-in-law and make Saucy Jokes"

Only the young people don't seem to have picked up on this---and that's fortunate, because someone has to run around making things happen, if only so Vimes and Granny and Rincewind have a reason to get up (complaining bitterly the whole time) and put it all to rights. Without Carrot, Margrat, Eric, etc. these characters don't have that reason; they're likely to stay in the metaphorical gutter and keep wondering where it all went wrong or why anything has to change.

............well, that's not quite true. You get the sense that Vetinari knows how much certain people hate the Plot. And as the person sitting behind the metaphorical lighting board of Ankh-Morpork, he takes no small pleasure in forcing the Plot-haters specifically to stand up, and say some lines.

when i was brainstorming this fundraiser my absolute most optimistic, pie-in-the-sky dream was to break a thousand dollars raised. i thought probably i'd manage to raise five or six hundred bucks. but i just donated almost TWO THOUSAND dollars to trans continental pipeline!!! i honestly can't believe it! thank you ALL for the sticker purchases, likes, and reblogs - this is all YOU GUYS!!! i know the future is uncertain and scary, but hopefully we've just helped to make it a little less scary and a little less difficult for someone (or many someones) who need the help that TCP offers.

who's in a love triangle with a character he has a genuine connection with and who shares his passions

and a character who doesn't really understand him and has feelings for him that he can't return

and during summer break becomes too preoccupied with character B due to societal pressures

causing him to act unlike himself

and neglect character A

I'm finally watching the Game Informer video for Veilguard and John Epler just fucking casually dropped the biggest bomb on my DA-pilled brain.

So uh random Kirkwall guy saying there's more mages now than when he was a kid was right. There really is more mages and magic. And part of that is Solas doing his shit. Holy shit Epler you can't just say that in a marketing video without preparing me

I feel like people don't often fully appreciate how hard dating can be for demisexuals.

It just hit me the other day when I found out that most people are kissing by the first date and having sex by the third and to me that is just wild. And apparently, some people wait up to three months before having sex and that's seen as like a really long time and I'm sorry but is everyone okay???

After three dates a person is still a stranger and after three months they're at most an acquaintance - and people are not willing to wait longer and you'll be seen as unreasonable if you want to wait for a year or more??

One of my favorite jokes is L muttering random percentages unprompted whenever Light does anything to indicate that it's affected his likelihood of being Kira. The more absurd, the better.

Light ate breakfast and had a glass of orange juice? 6 percent. He wore his black loafers today instead of his brown ones? 13 percent. He took a shower with cold water at night? 27 percent. Didn't say bless you when someone sneezed? He's slipping - 78 percent. Fully confessed to being Kira? He's being too obvious, 7 percent.
