squid game characters in a relationship with you
saebyeok, thanos, namgyu, daeho, hyunju, semi, the recruiter
description: how squid game characters would be as partners (au; no mention of the games)
18+ minors dni
warnings: nsfw in parts!!
︵‿︵‿୨♡୧‿︵‿︵
saebyeok:
♡ you were the one to ask her out and she quite literally didn't believe it
♡ like she didn't even answer you at first because she didn't think you were being serious
♡ she has a hard time expressing her emotions. you definitely said "i love you" first and it took her a while to feel comfortable saying it back
♡ despite this, she was the one who fell in love first. she just kept that shit to herself lmao
♡ rather than being outwardly affectionate with her words, she expresses her love through quality time. she loves planning dates for you or just cooking for you at home
♡ she's not big on pda, but she'll wrap a protective arm around you while you're out together
♡ if someone hits on you, she'll get even more protective. partly out of jealousy, but mostly because she hates the thought of someone making you uncomfortable
♡ she's a generous lover. def more of a giver if you know what i mean
ₓ˚. ୭ ˚○◦˚.˚◦○˚ ୧ .˚ₓ
thanos:
♡ he was the one to approach you, and he was bold about it too
♡ you aren't his first partner by any means, but you're his first real love
♡ he looooves to show you off. "look at my baby. look how lucky i got."
♡ naturally, this means he's into pda. the more eyes on the two of you, the better. he wants the whole world to know you're his
♡ especially if someone shows interest in you... then he gets even more touchy, so he can rub it in their face that you're his, all his
♡ if anyone wrongs you, he'll vow to make their life a living hell. you can't even gossip about your work drama to him without him getting angry on your behalf and threatening to kill them
♡ even though he talks a big game he knows he's lowk a loser and he doesn't take it for granted that you choose to stay by his side
♡ that being said he makes you his bitch in bed. he's for sure heavily on the dominant side
♡ he also has an exhibitionism kink i just feel that in my bones
ₓ˚. ୭ ˚○◦˚.˚◦○˚ ୧ .˚ₓ
namgyu:
♡ he was the one to make a move on you, but he said it in a joking manner so that if you said no, he could play it off as not being serious
♡ this man's love language is physical touch there's no doubt about it
♡ his words don't match his actions.. like he'll make fun of you for crying during a movie while simultaneously cuddling you and rubbing your back
♡ he doesn't have any cute pet names for you, just insults said in a loving manner ("stinky" etc). he just can't take himself seriously enough to be sappy
♡ you've unlocked his secret second love language, which is sending you memes
♡ he wants to be seen as tough so he pretends to hate it when you call him cute (he does not, in fact, hate it) (it actually melts him)
♡ he gives the evil eye to anyone who dares to look at you for a second too long
♡ you are for his eyes only
♡ he's dominant in bed but he likes you bratty. he wants to work for it
ₓ˚. ୭ ˚○◦˚.˚◦○˚ ୧ .˚ₓ
daeho:
♡ you had known him for a while, and you had to be the one to ask him out because he was oblivious to all the hints you were dropping
♡ he was too much of a gentleman to risk overstepping your boundaries by asking you on a date
♡ however, once he had the confirmation that you actually liked him, he was all in
♡ he was absolutely the first one to say "i love you". that man fell head over heels
♡ he is patient as fuck and will put up with whatever bullshit you throw at him. like when you tested the orange peel theory on him and he passed with flying colors
♡ you literally have a pet boyfriend. he'll go anywhere with you and do anything to make you happy. your fav himbo <3
♡ he's prone to jealousy but tries not to show it so as not to make a scene in front of you. if someone hurts you, though, all etiquette goes out the window and he's ready to start SWINGING
♡ your pleasure is his priority in bed and he's up for whatever you're into, but when it comes to his preferences, he'd much rather be dominated by you
♡ call him a good boy and his brain will go haywire
ₓ˚. ୭ ˚○◦˚.˚◦○˚ ୧ .˚ₓ
hyunju:
♡ you definitely had to make the first move. this mf was way too stoic to express her feelings for you
♡ she got anxious and cancelled on you before your first date, so you had to be persistent and reschedule
♡ she was surprised by your strong interest in her, and she still doesn't know how she got so lucky
♡ it took her a bit to open up, but she ended up saying "i love you" first
♡ she's extremely protective of you. her introversion is forgotten as soon as someone upsets you, and she's giving them a piece of her mind within seconds
♡ she doesn't really get jealous, she just gets sad :(
♡ she's an acts of service girly. she'll vacuum your floor, change a flat tire for you, anything to feel useful to you
♡ she gives stone top energy (this one is more for an f!reader as it's a wlw term)
ₓ˚. ୭ ˚○◦˚.˚◦○˚ ୧ .˚ₓ
semi:
♡ she was the one to ask you out, and she said it so casually that you almost missed it
♡ her first "i love you" was also casual, said as she was leaving your house one morning. "bye, love you."
♡ you honestly don't know if she's prone to jealousy because no one has fucked around and found out. everyone around you two respects her quiet confidence and doesn't even bother trying anything with you
♡ she has strong opinions, but she expresses them calmly. because of this, the two of you never fight, though you do occasionally have respectful debates. you tend to walk away feeling like she was in the right after all
♡ she's not huge on pda unless it's something cute and lowkey like holding hands, or some stupid shit like licking you
♡ you def have a secret handshake
♡ she's a soft dom and she's not shy about wanting to receive. she wants you on your knees in front of her
♡ with that said, she also gives great head. that lip piercing..... iykyk
ₓ˚. ୭ ˚○◦˚.˚◦○˚ ୧ .˚ₓ
the recruiter:
♡ he asked you out at a bar, making a bet that if you lost at pool, you'd go on a date with him
♡ you lost on purpose so his fine ass would take you on a date, and the rest was history
♡ he said he loved you first, and he said it fast. it's not often that he feels love for someone, so he had to act on it
♡ he would do anything for you. anything. if you asked him for help burying a body, he'd tell you not to get your pretty hands dirty; he'd do it himself
♡ not that that would happen... but he's thought about it. he knows that's how dedicated he is to you
♡ this freaky little fuck doesn't feel an iota of jealousy when others flirt with you. he just smiles, knowing know matter how much they fight for your attention, it'll be his name you're screaming at the end of the night
♡ he likes to be in control in life, and that translates to the bedroom too
♡ he has big sadist energy, but if he ever actually crosses a line he'll drop everything to comfort you (and beat himself up about it)

I like to say that I absolutely adore how you design your feline characters and make them very unique. You’re my favorite warrior cat artist because of it! How do you go about designing your characters?
halloo... thank you! this ones a bit harder for me to explain, but i'll try! i'm going to specifically talk about cats, but these could be used for other types of characters, mostly furries. note: um, guess who talks too much! i had to split this post into four. so check the reblogs! 1. placing markings with PURPOSE (this is the big one!!!) it was only recently i finally managed to find a way to word this. to create a good design, you need to understand how to place markings with purpose. to me, there are two components to this: spacing/size and body wrapping. body wrapping first. this is how the markings on a cat's pelt wrap and contort around their body. bodies are not flat surfaces, they have plenty of curves, ridges, etc, which will alter the shape of markings placed on top of them. the markings on your character both needs to contort to the shape of the body part AND how it would look from the viewer's perspective. here's some examples;
in the first picture, you can see how i wrap the markings around the cylindrical shape of the leg. in the second picture, you can see both that i've wrapped the markings around the shape of the arm and belly, but likely also that the marking i've specifically highlighted on the arm is being smushed because of the bending of the arm. this leads to a better design, as when you look at it, i feels more natural than if you were to plaster markings over the cat in a straight line. here's a real-life example.
you can see how the markings curve around the body, though i find it's sometimes less pronounced as i would portray it in art. but it's there. sizing and spacing are second. these are less realistic aspects, as cat markings tend to be very random, however it art it leads to a cleaner, more readable & desirable design. sizing and spacing also have a lot to do with consistency. it's also... a little hard to show. i don't find myself messing it up in old pieces, and the designs i do know of which do this are... from strangers. who i would feel bad throwing under the bus for having designs i don't like LMFAO. but i can do my best to describe them. the size of your markings should stay relatively consistent throughout your design. what i mean by this is if you have large, thick stripes along your whole character's body, i wouldn't recommended adding one random thin, pinstripe-y stripe on your characters body. if you want to give them thin and thick stripes, then you need to have BOTH consistently throughout the body. or, give it a balance. thick stripes on the body, neck and tail, and thinner stripes on the face and legs, for example. very, very small markings are GOING to go unseen by you or others drawing the design, i absolutely guarantee it. similarly, the spacing of your markings should stay relatively consistent. for me this mostly occurs in tabby cats. if i draw, for example, the character's body stripes a certain distance apart, i'm not going to suddenly change that distance on another part of their body, such as their legs. the main issues i find with sizing and spacing is when people have issues with BOTH of them at the same time. random markings everywhere with all sorts of sizes and shapes and spacing will make your design cluttered, unreadable and unappealing. even on characters you'd think would be exceptions to this, such as randomly spotted characters/tortoiseshells, i still think about. how can i place these spots or patches in a way that will properly define the markings, making it easy to understand? how can i place spots to not make them too cluttered in certain area? etc. it's definitely a bit hard to explain, especially without visuals, but i tried lol (SOBS) (see reblogs for CONT.)

I'm not against violence in tabletop rpgs, obviously, and I'm also not of the opinion that every game has to be Drakengard, sometimes brutal simple violence is viscerally satisfying in a way, but I do think its important to think about those things critically, especially when your enemies are other people And in the case of other people its literally just more interesting writing wise to ponder on the implications of said violence, yk?
But yeah non-combat encounters tend to be a lot more interesting in a way because there's no obvious solution usually, in... I think No Room for a Wallflower (to avoid spoilers i won't name any specifics) there's a moment where your characters are ordered to mow down multiple civilians, its meant to be a sort of "what the fuck do you do now?" moment and its really a highlight of that bit of the campaign
btw this isn't saying lancer's depiction of violence is any good either its a game about commiting a lot of violence very fast, the critiques of violence are at a setting level mostly, and even then its. not great at that, this is coming from someone who loves lancer and thinks a lot of the critiques it gets are real dumb
i try to not get too deep about ttrpg setting design and fundamental bigotries many well meaning people fall into but every time i mention people’s elf games being a lil racist i get dissed about it so i’ll just say this
a big issue with ttrpg design is that many game designers, including very well meaning ones, seem to believe that there exists any sort of sentient life that is “OK” to kill without remorse

I have a lot of feelings about The Story of Minglan (which I finally watched!) and its themes about patriarchy and class and intergenerational trauma and striving for survival under an oppressive system that demands fealty and will never just let you live by your own choices. We saw in every major storyline that these characters were granted no peace to live the way they wanted. Tingye had to fight for years to recover his reputation and attain status to give himself the freedom to build the family he wanted. Minglan had to battle through several unwanted attachments and couldn’t live a day in peace without someone trying to foist concubines on her or demand she use her status to buoy them. Heng was forced into marriages he didn’t want and had to give up the only wife he actually desired for the sake of soothing powerful egos, because the cost of not meeting those demands was actual life or death for his clan. In this story even the eventual emperor was not the emperor by choice—he was forced into the position as a matter of survival. There’s so much to unpack in this drama and it is far more than a romance.
That said, one of the most interesting things it did from a romance perspective is give us a smart, competent battle couple that spent nearly half of the drama married to each other despite being on the slowest of slow burn arcs to arrive at mutual love and affection. Ostensibly, you could call them a battle couple right from the jump in that they were a united front against enemies, backed each other up without fail, and talked together about (most of) their plans and schemes. But even as all of that was true, they were not on the same emotional wavelength, and they struggled to understand each other.
This is a couple that first connected and established some baseline trust in each other as children and always believed in each other’s intelligence and good character, and yet when they married as adults, they wanted completely different things from their marriage. Tingye wanted to be in love with his wife, and was, and couldn’t understand why it didn’t feel mutual. Minglan wanted to live up to the ideal image for a respectful and competent wife of that era, and did, and couldn’t understand why her husband was so discontent. As @dangermousie pointed out here, these are both trauma responses that make perfect sense given each of their backgrounds. And while the drama milked a lot of comedy out of their inability to understand each other on this impasse, I also found it so sad that their past trauma made it hard for them to communicate past this divide, and for Minglan to open herself to the vulnerability of loving someone.
I’ve seen a lot of complaints from viewers who were mostly here for the romance about how long it took for them to get on the same page. While there were definitely moments when I was ready to bang their heads together out of frustration, the fact that it took several years in story time for Tingye to effectively communicate that he genuinely wanted the real Minglan, and for Minglan to believe that and trust him enough to let her emotional guard down, is what makes it feel so well-earned and rewarding when they finally get there. It’s rare to get the luxury of sitting in a fictional world for this long to watch traumatized people slowly heal via their love for each other and build the family they want with each other. And it’s because we got to see that whole process that I feel confident their happy ending will stick.

Is there anything more about that blue fox from the Die Young amv that became the furry awakening for so many?
I should still have lots of JayJay art to post, but you can check her tag for what I already have if you're interested! If you're looking for more of a basic info overview, keep reading.
JayJay was originally named JiJi and she was a source of controversy for Viv because Viv didn't actually create JayJay. JayJay was a sparkle dog adopt that DollCreep purchased then redesigned. (I can't recall the original artist off the top of my head, unfortunately, and, if I'm remembering right, JiJi was purchased from someone who purchased her from the original artist before she even reached DollCreep.)
DollCreep, a friend of Viv's at the time, then sold JiJi to Viv who went on to use her in the infamous Die Young video. But there were disputes between the two about characters given or sold to Viv and where ownership laid. I'm not gonna get too into it, but in my personal opinion, this was just a case of not communicating the terms of sale well between friends. In the end, Viv renamed JiJi to JayJay and altered her design very slightly.
In terms of her purpose in Viv's Zoophbobia, she was supposed to show up in Book Two of the webcomic. Zoophobia didn't make it that far, though, so what we do know of her is mostly gleaned from Viv's art and posts about her.
She was part of a group of werewolf and canine characters Viv dubbed Party Dawgz in some posts and was close to the Queen of Werewolves. She's known for being a party animal, obviously, but cares about her packmates and friends deeply and just wants to have fun.
DollCreep also portrayed her as a party animal, but leaned into a more comedic and sexualized depiction of her. Viv tried to tone that part of her personality down a lot which was something she stated directly once.
I believe some more specific details of JayJay's story (such as her being a farm girl who got stuck as a werewolf) were changed along the way. But, in general, being a party animal is what has stuck with her the longest as her primary trait.
Fitting for a sparkle dog adopt.
Queen Bee from Helluva Boss is a big blaring neon throw back to JayJay and is probably near-identical in personality if you strip away the world-building specific aspects of both. Viv even referenced JayJay's original colors during Cotton Candy and obtained Kesha as her voice actress. So, in the end, this is where JayJay ended up in spirit.
Disclaimer: I was not around to witness the controversy of her ownership of JayJay in real time, but I have researched it for myself to reach my own conclusions about the situation. For me, it comes across as a messy falling out between friends, and I have sympathy for both sides.
As an archivist, I never want to shy away from the more controversial things that happened in Viv's history. But I also don't want a lot of discourse on this post about it, so I may block if I feel people are veering into overly aggressive and nonconstructive anti territory. Just try to be civil with any discussion if you want to avoid being blocked.

Is Desire a "friend" of Charles
Got another NGL. Apologies for the delay. This one is only partially my fault. The app didn't initially tell me I had this message, so I didn't see it for 3 days. The other 2-3 days are cause I'm slow. Anyhow, here's the prompt:
And my long rambling 1 am response is below the read more. (No editing, no reviewing, we sending this like the Night Nurse sent herself. Enjoy!
It seem taken for granted that Charles is a friend of Desire's. Why?
I actually don't know. I don't think he is a friend of Desire. I can see the narrative play here. Desire and Despair in the Sandman universe are twins and its regularly mentioned that Desire and Despair are connected, one leading to the other. We taste despair when we desire things we cannot have or things we lose. At the same time, despair can make us desire things - things that would spare us from that despair. So Despair and Desire are very tightly linked and often seen together. And since the boys are inseparable, I think people are drawn to the fun narrative options there. A lot of what I've seen when Charles is tied to Desire is actually Desire seeking Charles out. I haven't read all the Sandman comics in a long while, so I am rusty on things. Still, I do know that Desire is pretty involved in humans lives. Not for the human's benefit but for Desire's entertainment. So I've seen a few fics and headcanons that are essentially, Desire sees that Despair has a plaything in Edwin and so decides to claim the other one in the pair for themself. Which I think can be pretty fitting for Desire's character. I don't really find that as much fun to explore for Charles's character though - for me personally.
I think one reason I struggle to tie Desire to Charles is because so much of the discourse I see is around intimate desire (romantic or sexual) - mostly the idea that Charles is in love with Edwin and desires Edwin but is consciously or subconsciously denying that desire. And I admit, I personally struggle with reading romantic/sexual coding outside very formulaic tropes. I do love payneland as a ship and think that it's endgame for the show. I love the friendship and partnership the boys have. I agree they have "married for 30 years" vibes. I think Charles needs to have his own arc before he realizes that and he needs to learn what love is, given his own abuse history and how that would impact his perception of what love means and if he's capable or willing to give it in that way. At the same time, a LOT of the scenes the fandom points at as proof of Charles's romantic feelings towards Edwin, I don't see that way. I don't read them that way. This might be due to my being very ace/aro or my particular brand of neurodivergent, as I struggle in real life to read a lot of social cues around romantic/intimate relationships. That "they were roommates" joke...yeah, I've done that...to friends who were dating prior to moving in together and only realized they were dating when they announced they were engaged. Not kidding or exaggerating. So yeah, I struggle with reading Charles as madly in love with Edwin romantically in season 1. And I don't associate him with Desire in that regard.
But I do think there's a fun (for me) way to explore Charles being associated with Desire from how I view the season's events. I don't think its as a "friend" though, even in the way that Despair claims Edwin as a friend. First of all, I don't think Charles is as much fun to play with. Charles does have a lot of desire, and there's the obvious relationship with Edwin, be it romantic/platonic/whatever. But for the most part, Charles sets his own desires aside for others. He is the people pleaser and will put his own desires down to put others first. So I think he'd be hard to hold in Desire's realm/power. Not because he doesn't have wants and desires but because he is someone who has gotten very good at setting them aside. He's essentially built up a little resistance, I think. But there is one major desire I think would draw Desire's attention that Charles couldn't protect against.
One desire that Charles held throughout his life that even carried over into his afterlife - to be enough.
Charles wants to be enough. His breakdown at the cliff is all about that. His breakdown in episode 5 is an extension of that. Even in episode 1, we see his reaction to being called out as not appearing to be the brawn. Its played for laughs, yeah, but he gets defensive. He doesn't brush it off or ignore it or even laugh it off. The brawn is his job and he needs to do it, to be good enough at it to protect Edwin and this afterlife they've made together. In ep 3, he starts to touch on the abuse he experienced. "No matter how good I was". Because however good he was at whatever he did, it wasn't good enough. No strong enough. Not fast enough. Not good enough at sports. Not good enough in school. Not good enough when he was alive. In ep 4, he says he's not good enough to help Edwin or Crystal, to save the Devlin girls. Even in death, even as a ghost helping so many others, he's not good enough. He helped save Crystal and Niko. He helped the WW1 ghost move on. He's helped dozens probably hundreds over the years, but its not enough. He's not enough. Not enough to stop his dad hurting him. Not enough for his friends to care for. Not enough for his school to tell the truth. Not enough for Edwin to admit what's going on with the Cat King. Not enough.
Charles just wants to be enough. He has always wanted to be enough. Its the one desire he never sets aside. Its the one desire he holds so tightly to himself that its the first true desire we see burst out of him when he lets the mask of a smile slip away.
And I think this would be an interesting angle to have Desire come in from. Because Charles doesn't know he desires Edwin. He says he doesn't know how he feels but he, they, have forever to figure it out. Imagine Desire showing up and Charles having that confusion - because he hasn't been running from his love of Edwin, he just doesn't know what it looks like yet. But then Desire points out that "desire" isn't just intimacy or sex or pleasure. "Desire" can be a lot of things, like wanted to be enough.
I know I'm a bit biased, as I don't often connect with romantic/intimate plotlines. I love found family and yeah, payneland is a ship I really get behind because its foundation isn't just romantic/intimate like many ships I've seen in tv/media. But I would love to see Desire come in in a different way and explore the different desires characters can have, not just for an intimate relationship, but other things (also not for things like greed or wealth or power as that's already been played out). I think Charles's desire "to be enough" is such an amazing thing to explore as so many viewers would relate to it as well.

Fandom Problem #7390:
I believe someone else has said something like this before, but oh my god, does it suck how much more people care about fictional bisexual men over real life bisexual men. As seen on Tumblr, a lot.
I don't care if someone says it's just a joke when they say they support bi men because [insert fictional man here] exists, the fact almost every post about bi men is full of fans that make it about fictional characters is infuriating. And then you do some research, and most of those same characters are actually headcanons instead of canon characters, fuelled mostly by stereotypes that many of those same fans wouldn't think twice about hating if those same stereotypes were directed at them. There's barely any bi men posts to begin with, and now the number lowers because of this.
Also, the fact is that it shuts down so many potential conversations with actual bi men because apparently bi men are soo privileged for being told at almost every corner that being erased is actually a good thing, the erasure and silence means they don't face bigotry, and to "stop making everything about men" like they don't deserve a space to talk.
Yet a canon bisexual male character either being erased or badly written or hated by audiences earns much more anger than all of this and a lot more posts making it about fiction.
I wish bisexual men posts would stay about real life bisexual men.

C3 is a look on colonialism fans died out when imgn proposed the mortals plan. Because suddenly it was all about godlings, uwu cute babies and which characters could raise who either in revenge (Kiki & the Matron) or love (BY and Stormlord). As soon as that option got put on the table I never heard anyone else talking about colonialism. How can you when your blorbo's plan is allowing the "colonist power" to physically occupy the land and become more entrenched in political society.
That is definitely also part of it. Essentially, the problem is when people assign a show's political leanings on this basis of whether they like the blorbos or the ships. It's particularly bad in C3, where the general vibe among its most vocal fans was "anything my blorbo does is okay actually because if you don't like them you are attacking me personally," and where the people yelling about the clear themes of anticolonialism were mostly the descendants of the colonizers talking over if not outright disparaging the colonized. And the even bigger problem and what that original post was about is, of course, whether they do anything political outside posting and fandom, or if they just pretend that they do; not to mention whether they do anything one might consider radical (I know a lot of people who make no claims to be anything but a middle of the road registered democrat liberal who are almost certainly more active in community gardening and buy nothing groups and mutual aid and protecting the vulnerable in their community than the people who incorrectly decided that over-identifying with Ashton Greymoore was a substitute for having empathy for real living human beings who don't agree with you on fandom bullshit).
It is however not unique to C3. Since that recent question about C2 vs C3 criticism I've been thinking of people who suddenly started having massive problems with how Marisha played Beau as a woman of color after it became clear Beau and Yasha were going to get together, despite that being something that would not have changed in the slightest had Beau and Jester gotten together. It's not just "if a character is racist that means the author is racist which means the work is racist which means the fans are racist"; it's also that whether a work is racist or not is entirely determined on whether they liked what was happening in it.
I don't want to entirely decouple what one reads and enjoys from your politics altogether - obviously, someone who hates works on the basis of them including complex women or nonwhite characters or queer characters is going to be a bigot - but there really is a problem of people conflating what is explored in a work with the author of the work with the readers of that work, or people conflating (for example) not liking a specific queer ship or female or nonwhite character with homophobia, misogyny, or racism while themselves not abiding by that same rule, or generally just doing more arguing on behalf of fictional characters in fandom than living out any of their values in the real world. Like, really, am I supposed to believe the people who were assholes to Jewish people flagging how the anti-god arguments sounded uncomfortably close to real world anti-semitic rhetoric (and those people also deciding to put the word 'degenerate' in our mouths for *checks notes* thinking Laudna and Imogen are adults who are in control of their choices and actions and are not owed universal adoration) and who have, according to multiple conversations and some WILD confessions people have had in my tags, spent this entire campaign disparaging the colonized experiences of multiple people of color, particularly those of native/First Nations or Asian descent, are like...doing things in the real world that require interacting with people who aren't like them?
#anyway you know that weirdo who constantly vagues in the main tag who violently hates essek#but also tries to argue ludinus is a white supremacist for hating the dynasty...which indicates essek would have to be nonwhite#we should not use the tools of the enemy and call them racist but we should note that under their own metrics they are in fact very racist.#and obviously The One Who Claims To Be Nauseated About Pretend Guys Working Together is like. actually pretty racist.#(that is also the person who threw a fit about like. genuine historian pushback on the statement of history being written by victors)#(who then claimed disliking imogen or laudna is akin to calling them degenerate)#and we should. you know. take their statements in that context.#cr tag#anonymous#answered

put my fursona into dog man and then realized they actually work weirdly well in it
It’s interesting because Dro doesn’t really have much of a set character. The two main things with them are that
A. They’re not a rabbit, they’re a rabbit-shaped creature. nobody’s really sure what’s up with them.
B. Its personality is just whatever I feel is most amusing at the time, which usually tends to be kind of smug and sarcastic, but can really be whatever.
I mostly like imagining moments of them doing things that are Not How Rabbits Should Be, and other people being vaguely confused by it and he just does not give any real answers about it, but that got the gears in my brain turning
I didn’t think I would be thinking this much about dog man Dro, but here we are. I dunno how much I could actually see them interacting with other characters, but thinking abt them with these three is fun.
I think the main thing with him in this universe is that it is very used to being seen as kind of weird or offputting for not really being a “real” rabbit and have mostly kind of just resorted to deflection and vague apathy in response to it because after a certain point, it just gets really exhausting to deal with. But then, once Dog Man comes around with the whole half n half thing and is praised as a hero, Dro ends up really attaching to that and Dog Man ends up becoming a huge inspiration for him.
#dog man#dogman#oc#original character#dogman oc#dog man oc#dro#petey the cat#lil petey#dro uses it/they/he pronouns btw I feel like I should make that clear#I’m like. half tempted to polyship him with dm and petey. just for shits n gigs yk#idk anything could happen depending on how insane I get about this freak#we’ll see

the day has finally come when i tell yall about my current hyperfixation with majima as an intertextual character. the rant is gonna be quite long so better prepare yourselves
it all started with my uni lecture about cinematography and my teacher telling us something about Wild at Heart. the moment i saw nick cage as sailor the chemistry in my brain changed forever. THEN i found out about The Fugitive Kind aka the very first movie where snakeskin jacket makes appareance as the symbol of freedom. watching both of these movies and connecting all the dots made me loose my mind BECAUSE
my fixation with majima and the way he is portrayed was (so far) mostly centered around his psychology and looking at him as a person. the fact that his design is a tribute to a thing going on in cinematography for +60 years made me look at him clearly as a character, not a potential human being. and when i tell you it goes so deep!! because we can look at it from two very different perspectives: the creators of RGG and majima himself.
the story of snakeskin jacket characters always have certain points that turns them into a topos (a repetitive motive used in different artworks) and not fully independent characters. because all of their stories respond to one another. freedom, violence, the cage/leash thing, important role of a woman, the list could go on. and even if the characters have different personalities, even if the stories are made in very different styles we see the exact same motive created with different tools. and the story of majima fits perfectly into the crossing points of these stories. in y0 we learn about the reasoning behind his fixation with freedom, about the mental prison, about the twisted fetishization he meets from his oppresors ends (the way everyone sees him as a tool/pawn, the way his worth depends on his obedience etc.). it all is a massive buildup for the scene when we see him wearing the jacket for the first time. it mightve been the creators decision to use the same symbol used by Lumet and Lynch as a tribute to their work, as taking the snakeskin jacket further than cinematography and western culture and making it just as iconic and symbolic in their very own vision.
but majimas case is what makes it all so much more special. because we all know the ongoing dehumanization and his need to put on an act, never letting others see his true self. here i am pointing out that the snakeskin jacket mightve been a concious choice of majima as another act for dehumanization, just as much as it was a choice of the RGG creators. turning himself not only into mixture of figures/people that had great influence on him but also styling his visual to imitate fictional characters who are embodient of certain values might be the opposite of real independence symbolised by the snakeskin jacket. and yes i know, i know that Wild at Heart is from 1990 but in yakuzaverse i truly beilieve some David Lynx exists the same way Stephen Spinning does and he mightve as well make Wild at Heart two years earlier.
just. something. something about majima using symbol of independence and freedom as another illusion, as another role and not who he really is. something about snakeskin jacket symbol being another label he puts on himself so people know what to expect even if its not true.
anyways rant about this thing gave me an A for my uni so i guess nerdism at its finest also i truly recommend both of the movies (The Fugitive Kind 1960, Wild at Heart 1990). theyre very different (and specific) but very important in understanding the whole snakeskin jacket thing and its roots
#sorry for any language mistakes im not thinking very clearly lol#majima took me to nerdism levels i wouldnt go with a gun#majima goro proving once again hes my beloved muse#majima goro#yakuza#rgg

"Hotel Couches & Other Hail Marys" Fic Notes
These aren't the traditional format but I have enough Hidden Little Things I wanna do very loose an informal fics notes
The "Hotel Couch" was Catra's Hail Mary, but the shared bed was Catradora's, and Catradora's reunion was the fans' Hail Mary.
The way I do tweets was invented back in DITM and "perfected" in SaD, when I also invented how I do Instagram posts/stories/reels/DMs. I wasn’t reinventing shit for the changes Twitter has made, it’s ~historically accurate~ to when Dashcon happened. The one change I made was not using the block quote indent for all the digital posts I usually do, but that entire fic was digital, so I only ended up using it for indented reply chains on Twitter (which worked out better tbh) and on the Instagram chapter to distinguish the posts and the descriptions of the images/videos.
Fake tumblr posts/alternate reality dashboard simulators are already a popular format on Tumblr so there really was very little for me to do there. I made some tweaks by adding in the comment/share/like icons I use for Twitter, but overall that part was easy. The hardest part was getting the follow button blue. On Tumblr that's easy, colored text is a built-in option, but for AO3 I had to use a work skin to include some CSS for the color code. I ended up modifying the Reddit skin I had made using this tutorial because I was planning to capstone with a Reddit post anyway so I could just add on the blue on. Normally I don’t consider using colored text for many reasons (hard to read, might look great on my site skin and be invisible on others, etc), but in the case of the follow buttons they could just as easily not be there and contribute nothing but realism, so I wanted to have them in their standard blue.
Normally I don’t even consider using Tumblr when doing social media posts in a fic but considering this was inspired by Dashcon which was literally a Tumblr convention, I had to for this one. As such, the first chapter is mostly set-dressing for the disaster the convention is itself so when people complain in future chapters it makes sense. The rough outline was: Tumblr (convention background) Twitter (reconnect and beef background) Instagram (bond) DMs/texts (get together) Reddit (retrospective epilogue wrapping up the story)
Most of the usernames are just like. Random shit I could come up with. The ones on Tumblr are supposed to be random stuff on the site and the ones on Twitter lean more towards fandom-associated stuff for the She-ra fandom since it’s transitioning from the pool of All Con Attendees to the microcosm of their fans affected. Most of these can be found in previous fics such as DITM. That said, here are the name(s) with inspo behind them:
🍕nnlftbf: none pizza left beef. And no vowels. I have always desperately wanted to eat the none pizza
🦉pewpew4gloria: Star Siblings fan (reference to Starla’s bird)
🐍nagashed: this is a reference to both the plethora of (human animal hybrid)(bodypart) tumblr usernames (ex: dragongirlsnort) and a manga that my friend is reading.
🎃pumpkakitty: reference to a really cute hat in Pokemon Go 🥺 (okay it’s supposed to be a pikachu but it looks like a kitty tbh)
🌈edgeofgloria: another Star Siblings fan
He-Ro in the Freak Zone @frightzest: He-Ro is an actual MOTU character, frightzest is from DITM
Aside: the “looki loo” thing is a reference to Razz’s good ol pal Looki, hence the fandom in-joke
praying mantis wife @nineten02: nineten is a reference to my Stardew Valley chickens <3
Katastrophe @viviviolence: Vi’s shoulders you mean so much to me
Oh yeah Zeni is Zine just. Flipped. Also the original She-ra artist was one of the two sponsors who pulled out and the entire reason they were there. I mean what?
When Adora called Catra aggravating on camera she was doing it in a horny way but with Real Beef between them it didn’t come across that way. She also said they wouldn’t work together as a factual thing rather than spiteful. There was no way the studio OR Catra would let them.
When Catra said she’s “finally suing” she’s referring to the long-standing rumor that the previous showrunner “stepped back” because Catra was threatening to sue for the wage/credit theft, or the discrimination, or the abusive work environment, or the-
The dates Adora reached out to Catra via DMs were all significant ones for the real series — season 1 debut for when they were nominated, prompting the thank you story, season 2 debut for when they won the award (I didn’t look up and don’t care when the actual GLAADs are lol), and season 3 debut when ZeniCon is actually taking place. Almost three years have passed since Catra’s ousting from the show back between seasons 3 and 4, tho.
Given the NDA and general threat-level from the studio, Adora didn’t think she could mention Catra on her main page without getting a talking to even with Weaver officially departed, so she tried to do it on her story, but Catra did NOT want the heat that could bring.
The foam She-ra crown from the Instagram reel is the same one they gave out at cons in 2018 and 2019.
Adora calling it the “season 5” rather than “season 4” wrap part led to fan speculation that season 5 really was written by Catra except for the weakest parts — some stuff needing to be condensed, the insertion of a new storyline — which like. Well they are right. But she said season 5 rather 4 (which was wholly Catra’s) because it’s the part she’s most proud of even after they took it from her. It’s what she was building to the whole time.
Catra and Adora lasted like ten minutes lying next to each other in bed before they ended up kissing and when it started progressing they snuck into the bathroom. It was obvious Bow was asleep and they were just hoping Glimmer was too. Glimmer, too, wishes she was asleep.
Glimmer refers to Catra being “at her worst” because she got really aggressive and disparaging of her old cast out of bitterness after they wouldn’t back her up in the press (to keep their jobs). They all understand why, but it is still frustrating.
Melendy is from my fic lore, she’s a magicat character I use sometimes who is named after Catra’s VA in the 80s. She plays a recurring character on the show, though on the minor side.
I linked the Ohio con video because 1) that video is the ONLY time I’ve heard of it and I love the drama 2) to hammer home all the shit I say in this isn’t just from Dashcon, I am not here to libel people and 3) because I like my secret little links, BUT if you want to see a good video on Dashcon, watch this one and literally never watch Internet Historian he’s a POS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZAqy-KDJAUM
The behind the scenes shitshow for She-Ra itself was inspired by the TV show Lost (though Catra keeping her storylines secret was inspired by Real She-ra and ND Stevenson)
Like I said, I had been wanting to do a fic that was “just digital” for a while. The massive problem with that is getting across the shit people don’t post online because there is not a single trace of Catra and Adora potentially being a couple until after ZeniCon. Catra and Adora were basically wildly attracted to each other from the moment they met on the show but wouldn’t cross that barrier because they worked together (especially because of where they worked together). They ended up hooking up during some high-stress times for the show just to deal with how much they wanted each other. Catra felt really betrayed when the cast wouldn’t stick their necks out for her when she was ousted. Privately they were all on her side and told the studio so, but to publicly side with her was to lose their jobs, and the show was their entire life. They ultimately picked their passion & livelihood over showing public support they didn’t think would make a difference anyway and she cut all ties with them. They did what they felt they could, which was mostly never denying her version of events and deflecting questions when they had no other choice, but they all felt bad about it and tried to reach out to her privately. She didn’t want to hear it, but fans were right that the real beef was with the studio. She fell back into their arms eventually because she could see they were doing what they could while keeping their jobs, and she knew just how much being unemployed sucked. Adora was also telling the truth when she said they were fighting for her version of the story by staying on the show and no matter how much Catra calls it theft, that is what she wants for her characters. Being forced into the same room let them all remember what it was like to be friends, and that’s what led them to eventually giving their apologies.
I have no idea why, when presented with “lol dashcon au” my brain goes “rampant wage theft, behind the scenes abuse, disgrace and scandal, show extension hell a la supernatural, brrrrrrrrrr” but there we go

Kamen Rider Gavv ep 1 thoughts
Just going to watch one episode right now because I need to finish Kabuto and I need to Know what Kabuto has up its sleeve. But, the tl;dr of Gavv: Cute show, I can see how traumatized this poor kid will get by the end
Gavv ep 1
okay so I’m already reminded of W. Wonder if there will be a mentor figure that dies like Soukichi does in the first fucking five minutes of W
oh neat doors. I’ve seen Labyrinth too.
jfc how old is this kid he looks baby
yeet out of a plane and the tinkly “oh this is the world mom is from” music lmao
lbr considering the environment you just escaped from and the way you were happy to be freefalling because you were where your mom is from, I think needing some food is understating it.
"what do you have? Do you eat it?" has the same energy as my "what is gender? do you eat it?" joke
WHAT IS YOUR BODY MADE OF
Karakida I want your jacket. Give
Ah you have no communication skills. Understood
"This isn't a monster case" "So what is it?" "Woman fucking killed her own husband and shh keep your fucking voice down"
"today's harvest" and it looks like bloody organs. Hey I've seen 12 Hour Shift too.
oh you've never been allowed actual food have you
oh goddamn it I can hear Apollo aiming the dodgeball already
my dude. you got a tummy ache then gave birth to something. human women would kill for that to be their normal gestation cycle.
mm, cgi is kinda……………………
"hey now I've been fed actual food and have real energy I can make minions" yeah I mean that makes sense. People get all kinds of bodily processes back once they've been properly fed. Usually takes a while for their body to recover but hey you ain't human so I get it
this kid is so sweet and kind giving obvious main character (yeah I know it's shouma) a place to stay and some sweets to eat.
oh right the street drugs WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT HENTAI ASS THING
oh it's just a mouth. Wicked teeth.
Shouma is such a sweetheart
Also ye, I can see why Shouma is enchanted by sweets if his mom never let him have any of the family drugs.
excuse me I need to figure out a way to get into this world and beat down this addict before he hurts this kid
Shouma I would like a full rundown of what you can do because was that super speed and running perpendicular on a vertical surface? My dude? Answers?
Mm, sick monster design
Yeah, the monster and the kid both being like "hey what the fuck" to Shouma is fucking hilarious.
oh fucking ow
your mom turned into a bloody organ thing. Are we sure this isn't just a horror movie?
I feel like these minion things showing up saying "eat gummy!" shouldn't feel as threatening as they do.
OH GOD THE CRYING EYES. I'M HOWLING
"oh with the other one" lmao
I wonder what this show is like on edibles because the bright colours are fun and I had a blast watching Ex-Aid baked. Tho I'd consider that a little too on the nose considering the street drug metaphor of those dark candies
little dudes go somewhere safe that isn't under the fighting feet!
oh interesting so if he gets a lot of battle damage he can repair it by using another minion. Very neat. Wish more "battle damage" was repairable that easily. Looking at you, 3rd Birthday.
oh calling both of them monsters and Shouma just taking it is heartbreaking.
I'm definitely feeling the difference between Takaiwa and whoever the suit actor for Gavv is, but it's more "huh, that's a different way of doing the stunts" than anything bad. I do miss Takaiwa but that's mostly because he's a fucking legend. This guy's doing great, tho.
did… they repurpose the build driver for this?
takaiwa usually stood upright, even for meek characters like Ryotaro, while it seems like this guy's default stance is hunched over. iiiiiiiiiiiiiinteresting. Says a lot about Shouma in this form
okay I was about to say this Rider Kick is lame, but nah, it's pretty good.
Shouma you are sunshine and joy wrapped in ptsd. That's not even a joke I know you're fucking riddled with ptsd from just your memories of your mother alone
Shouma you are not Eiji stop being a hobo
Cute show.

Any writing tips?
I’m actually surprised to be asked because I’m not so sure of my writing haha! But what did help me was reading a BUNCH and studying literary theory, I mostly like gothic literature so authors like Mary Shelley and Anne Radcliffe inspire me a lot. I swear studying literary theory and media theory doesn’t suck balls when you do it with media you’re really passionate about, there’s some great resources just on google scholar. I recommend Literary theory: The basics by Hans Bertens and Techniques of close reading by Barry Brummett. These are good intro texts that can give you some direction on learning from texts.
Not being afraid to receive criticism is also fundamental. I had some amazing people edit and critique my work to make it more compelling.
Understanding tropes and narrative progression is super helpful as well. Understand the motives for why each character does what they do and what their “archetype” is can help narratives feel linear.
It’s also a bit overused and not always applicable but “write what you know” can be very useful. Obviously I didn’t have Jeff the kills you as a sibling and go crazy, but I tried to ground the work in real and relatable themes; losing touch with reality, people you love being changed due to tragedy, losing things that matter to you, social isolation, death and violence. Using things you’re familiar with as a foundation for a fictional setting can make the emotional impact a lot more real.
But the most important thing is to write, find prompt, jot down ideas, practice mediums you aren’t strong in (occasionally I dabble in poetry and then delete it out of sheer embarrassment), enjoy the process of it.
If there’s any professional writers, hobbyists or even avid readers who want to share some insight and advice please do! Hope this is helpful 🤍

Tell me why I saw someone say this:
Ahem… girl we got beef rn- how the hell do you like the creator- listen I know he has simps for some f*cking reason you don’t need to repeat that.
But I swear if someone EITHER A MUTUAL OR A FOLLOWER likes the creator…
ISTG-
I’m not hating you.
That’s it I proved my point.
[bangs head on desk]
AHHHHHHHHH
WHY DO YOU EVEN LIKE THEM- THIS HAPPENED BEFORE THE NICE CREATOR CAME- I DIDNT THINK PEOPLE WERE SO CRUEL THAT THEY WOULD LIKE A LITTERAL MANIAC-/hj
But seriously I’m not gonna hate you lmao
[read tags]
