Yandere S.T.A.R.S Team (Resident Evil) platonic headcanons

Note- I am back (It's been years), this has been in my drafts so I said fuck it/this is so messy and the timeline/canon may not be accurate but enjoy! This is mainly platonic, but w/some characters it could be interpreted romantically

Characters; Albert Wesker, Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Rebecca Chambers, Barry Burton, Joseph Forest, Brad Vickers, Forest Speyer, Richard Aiken, Enrico Marini, Kenneth Sullivan, Edward Dewey

The first person you perhaps meet is Albert; he is the leader of the S.T.A.R.S Team. Not only do all the recruiters get approved by him, but he also overlooks all your tests. He greets you like any other, but gradually something takes a hold of him. He's in denial at first, even seeming harsh. You may initially believe he didn't like you; oblivious to the countless files and cameras hidden everywhere.

Having the rest of the team be just as enamored was not on the table. You are immediately welcomed by the team and Rebecca is the first to befriend you since you two are the youngest of the team. Like how Richard was tasked with watching over Rebecca, he’s tasked with the same responsibility over you (even if Wesker preferred to do it himself).

Chris can't help but grow quickly fond of you. He positions himself in the role of your protector; feeling the utmost responsibility for your happiness and safety. So if you have any problems - whether it's with Chief Irons or getting in trouble for say, breaking a rule; trust he'll be quick to intervene and 'save' the day.

You're all Chris ever talks about to Claire and before long, the two of you cross paths. Claire, like her brother assumes herself in the role of being your friend right away. She occasionally pays you visits and you can be sure that you will receive calls from times when she's unable to visit. Claire expects Chris to keep her informed of you at all times.

Barry, Enrico, and Kenneth all take fatherly roles; they look at you and already placed adopted papers on the table ready for you to sign. It makes it all the harder for Wesker to have any absolute control as they all put their foot down.

Barry adores you and it’s not taken lightly when it’s said he treats you as his child, probably cause he views you as actually one of his own. He invites you to a family dinner, introducing you to his family who all naturally take a liking to you. Barry insists on his house always being open if you need a place to stay or run into trouble. 

Since Barry sees you as his own, there is a never-end to his dad jokes. Even when you comment on how terrible it is, he likes seeing the smile on your face. Trust you'll be invited to every birthday, barbecue, or any family Burton event.

Enrico while he adopted a fatherly role, he was a bit reluctant to get so attached to you. He’s the few in the team who's fully aware and doesn't hesitate to call out the others when he thinks they are going too far. He worries a lot about your safety, and most times it's Enrico who comes out on top of arguments on who gets to drive you home. 

Kenneth as the oldest of the team, feels the most responsible for you. He is aware just like Enrico and doesn't wish for you to be scared of him or the team. He wants you to come to him whenever you need anything, even for small tasks such as finding a specific file. Like Enrico, Kenneth has no problem telling the others to back off if you need space.

More trouble comes along when Forest and Joseph come along. They develop their tendencies the quickest and tend to be the most clingy out of the team. They (along with Chris) become your partners in crime.

Joseph is someone you can always count on to make you smile even in the most serious of situations; he doesn’t care when others lecture him for it. You're not safe from his teasing. Granted you're not the target of his pranks but he likes to poke fun at you from time to time. It's why no alarms are ringing in your head when he says something questionable, assuming he’s just being Joseph.

You're not safe from Forest's playful teasings either. He can be a little annoying, poking your cheek or trying to tickle you when wanting your attention. Like Joseph, he's very affectionate, putting his arm around your shoulder and resting his head on your lap if you allow it. The others lecture him for doing it so publicly but Joseph knows it's jealousy talking more than anything.

As said, a squad of its own is formed; Chris, Joseph, Forest, and you. While they tend to be jealous, the three are okay with sharing when it comes to each other. Forest and Chris enjoy competing in shoot training and showing off who can do it better, inviting you to place bets. They're happy to show you all the gun's tricks and let you choose your weapon's signature.

Joseph, being a mechanic, can't always spend as much time with you. But he'll eagerly drag you into teaching you the ropes, whisking you away from the other two. He beams with pride when you grasp something from his impromptu lessons. Even if he's not exactly teaching you anything, he's happy to chat about anything as he works. 

Jill becomes someone you’re close to, someone whom Chris and Barry trust to leave you alone with. She’s not afraid to whisk you away from the others when she wants to and won’t hesitate to call out anyone selfishly taking your time (Uhm Joseph). 

Most of all, Jill loves having girl time with you. She's there for any fashion advice, gladly taking you shopping to revamp your wardrobe. If you're unsure how to do your makeup, she's eager to help, though Jill never wants to teach you so you can keep coming to her.

Jill is also willing to use any excuse to have you stay over at her place anytime even suggesting sharing an apartment to ‘save money”. And if you think Wesker’s the only one with a bunch of files, Jill has a hidden drawer filled with everything she has on you. 

Brad becomes incredibly attached but is a bit shy about approaching you. He'll do little things to make your day better, like bringing your favorite coffee (watching you do it too many times) or organizing your desk just the way you like it.

Brad tries to agree with everything you do, supporting any ideas you bring forth in, team meetings and hesitates to snitch on you, always trying to talk to you first to prevent trouble (aka punishments). Similar to Kenneth, he's aware of his tendencies and doesn't want you to fear him.

Richard is the softest guy on the team as said, was tasked with watching over you and quickly grew fond of you, He has made it well known that if you ever need help you can seek him out even when you get in trouble, he’ll gladly keep it hidden from the others to avoid you being in trouble even taking the brunt of it.

If you find yourself spending time with Richard, trust that Rebecca is there, too, being the sweetest in the group as well. Initially, she might not fully grasp her tendencies, but once she does, her sole concern is your safety and happiness. She frowns upon hearing Jill and Chris discussing ways to keep you confined and is the one who tries to reassure the others not to be too 'harsh' on you.

Edward may appear intimidating, but he's actually a softie at heart. While he might not warm up to you as quickly as Forest and Joseph did, given some time, he grows fond of you and eventually places him as your trusted friend. He's aware that his demeanor can be intimidating and desires nothing more than for you to feel comfortable opening up to him, always offering a smile whenever he sees you around the RPD.

Chief Irons has learned that you're the one person he can't even dare to go near. You might be a troublemaker, breaking every rule in the book, but Albert will put his foot down to ensure nothing comes of it. It's enough that the rest of the team has a dislike towards Irons, and he, along with everyone in the RPD, knows that crossing you means crossing the Stars team.

Wesker also keeps the extent of his monitoring and knowledge of you a closely guarded secret. He's aware that Kenneth, Enrico, Richie, Edward, and Barry all vocally dislike the idea of 'stalking' you in such ways (they all do but try to keep it as ‘morally right’). In his grand plan, he hopes to lure you away, but he must do it in a way that won't raise suspicion.

You have the most protective people watching over you. Even a simple accident like someone spilling a cup on you puts everyone on high alert.

Your favoritism doesn’t go unnoticed by the rest of the RPD, sparking rumors around the station that Edward and Barry quickly shut down whenever they hear someone bad-mouthing you.

Chris and Forest, on the other hand, can be incredibly impulsive, leading to all sorts of issues that Wesker and Enrico have to deal with. Jill and Joseph even got in trouble once for punching someone.

That means going on no dangerous missions; the one thing they all agree on. Wesker ensures that all your missions are carefully managed, eliminating any risks of you being in danger, and he pretends not to know what you mean if you ask. The other members are willing to gaslight you, suggesting that you just happen to get the easy ones, even Rebecca and Brad.

They're all eager to fight each other to train you, each claiming they're better at teaching you self-defense. Chris and Forest are the ones who usually end up teaching you since they're often the first ones to arrive. But everyone knows that if Wesker insists on training you, they can't object. And it's probably for the best, as some (Uhm Richard, and Edward) will pretend to lose or go easy on you because they don't want to "hurt" you.

The team normally doesn’t go out, but they all want to spend time with you. Usually, all of you go to diners (except for Wesker, wonder why). There's a little argument over who should order you to prove who knows you the best.

Your seat is chosen to please everyone, sometimes between Jill and Chris, other times between Richard and Rebecca. Another silent argument happens when they debate on who should pay for you; Enrico succeeds by slipping the payment to the waiter when the others aren’t looking.

Everyone always makes sure you come home safe. You expect numerous calls from everyone checking up on you. They all secretly know you're fine, as they're in cahoots with each other, but they just want to hear your voice.

There's also a chance that if Richard, Forest, or Jill are the ones bringing you home, they'll make some excuse about needing to stay overnight because they're tired or the weather is bad.

 If you need someone to drive you to the station or pick you up, perhaps because you can’t drive, they're all willing to fight each other once again to do so. They've left important meetings or appointments countless times just to rush to your aid. It's almost always Wesker, Richard, Enrico (and sometimes Chris) who beat the others in picking you up.

Once again, you're always taken to events that the teammates have. Brad is getting takeout, he's on his way to pick you up since he assumes you're also hungry. Forest wants to go out for a drink, prepare for him to be at your door, and when you attend together, he’s protecting your drink with his life and will even pretend to be your boyfriend. Barry has a baseball game he wants to attend, so why not come with him and his family. 

Jill needs to pick up a new outfit or something in the way, she decides to take you as well. Rebecca comes along, and sometimes the three of you have spa days in the process. Rebecca also loves going on road trips with you; there needs to be a person or two with you to ensure nothing bad happens. Rebecca once brought you to her favorite team's basketball game and the two of you shared those nachos and fries. It was Rebecca's happiest memory.

Movie nights are a must. Brad and Edward agree with anything you wish to watch, while Jill and Joseph are fighting over which ones to watch. Chris and Forest are trying to get your attention more than actually watching a movie. Meanwhile, Rebecca is actually enjoying the movie and wants to talk to you about it later on. She and Richard ensure you have your popcorn, and Richard brings your favorite bakery treats.

Expect to be always praised when you're around the team. Wesker himself praises you for a job well done whenever you find a clue or bring him the right file. Richard, Edward, and Rebecca are the most vocal. Also expect Chris and Barry to give you a pat on the back, while Forest and Joseph jokingly pat your head.

Wesker has you as his right-hand assistant, even when it’s not officially confirmed as such. You're tasked to help and stay by him whenever he needs assistance. He pretends not to see everyone side-eyeing him when he places your desk right next to his, but then again, they all ignore his stare when they come to your desk for whatever excuse they need.

The best people to comfort you are Barry, Enrico, Kenneth, and Richard. These men hate seeing you in tears. Brad will try to make you laugh while hugging you, while also finding the right words to comfort you. You can lie to Enrico, and he'll still know; he's memorized your body language, pulling you into an immediate hug before the tears even come. 

Kenneth's ability to comfort shines in giving the best advice and solving any issues you have. Richard will sit next to you and listen; it could be the middle of the night, and he'll gladly answer any call or stay up to do any activities that will cheer you up.

Something everyone has huge arguments about is punishments; it gets heated at times. These discussions are, of course, not done in your presence.

Wesker is open to punishments, Chris and Jill agree with precautions, and Barry may reluctantly agree but claim he wants nothing to do with it. Brad and Rebecca voice their disagreement but can’t really intervene. Edward and Richie, like Barry, say they want nothing to do with it. Forest and Joseph don’t like it but will let the others make the decisions. Enrico and Kenneth are the most vocal against such decisions.

Everything is going well in the team until the mansion incident.

You had to be with the Alpha team, unaware of the fate that fell upon the Bravo team, as there was no way Wesker would have let you out of his sight.

You had to witness Joseph get mauled by the zombie dogs, and if it weren’t for Wesker shooting the one coming at you and Chris pulling you along, you may have been a victim of it. Getting into the mansion has them immediately checking for injuries, only to realize you are just shaken up.

If you try to suggest coming along with Chris to check on what’s happening, Wesker immediately disapproves, even pulling rank to have you stay by him, and Jill agrees. Chris assures you he'll be just fine.

Things happen and it may lead you to be separated from Wesker and Jill. It makes all of them panic and look for you. Chris is nervous but assumes you must be with either Wesker or Jill. Jill and Wesker are trying to remain calm as they search. There is a chance you will meet Rebecca, who informs you of Edward's death, and this leads to you reuniting with Chris. 

Alternatively, you may come across Barry, who refuses to leave your side, leading you to reunite with Jill. Both scenarios will have you meeting Richard, who immediately embraces you upon seeing you safe. You may also encounter Enrico, who seems hesitant to inform you of who he believes is responsible for the situation.

Forbid you get injured at any moment in the mansion, everyone will be in panic. Barry will try to reassure you, holding your wound while Jill rushes to get any herbs. Or Rebecca will try to tend to you while Chris silently panics in the background, refusing to leave your side. Richard will insist you stay in a room for your safety while he tries to find Rebecca or first aid. Enrico tries to remain calm, bringing you along with him as he rids the area of any zombies, fearing the risk of leaving you alone.

Soon enough, you will find out about Wesker's involvement, and his first act is to keep you as a hostage, even knocking you out. He’s merely bluffing but needs to keep the others away. If he encounters Enrico, he is well aware the man knows he’s a traitor and will kill him in front of you. After all, you will know the truth either way.

It all ends with Wesker believed to be 'dead,' killed by the tyrant, and the mansion about to blow up. You and everyone mourn all those who you have lost, and you are surrounded by the remaining survivors as they try to comfort you and tend to any injuries you may have gained. 

You are too lost in your grief and all you have experienced that you don’t realize the eyes all watching you, as they all make a silent vow to themselves to forever keep you safe. And most of all, you don’t know that Wesker has been reborn, getting out of the mansion as he plots his revenge.

genuine question because youre one of my favorite writers, you seem to really have a thorough grasp of the characters: what do you see in rafayel that makes him appealing? i try to get past his entitled brattiness because i really want to enjoy all of the guys, but i cant see anything else. please help me understand 🥲

About Rafayel:

Rafayel is a brat, yes. But that means he wears his heart on his sleeve, outright when he needs your attention or sulking when something is bothering him or faking a dramatic accident to get your attention. There's no silent guessing or fake "I'm fine's," just his overdramatic, raw emotion that's easy to read. He's has anxious attachment stemming from hundreds of years of betrayal and loss.

Rafayel is a romantic, a yearner. And yes, while I also agree his attitude was annoying at first I am very unfortunately into people who get on my nerves, especially when they are flirty and funny as well. I folded during his hospital scene.

Entitled? He is a god. He has been trying and failing to save his entire civilization for over 800 years and still simply can't because he refuses to hurt the one he loves. While all the boys have been through pain there's something about Rafayel's story that really gets me. I think it’s because if I— as mc— knew the sacrifice he was making, I would give myself up. So to have someone selfish enough to place me first is heartbreaking, devoted, and cruel. 

Also there are plenty of scenes where Rafayel is serious, especially if you read between the lines. The brattiness and sass is a playful cover to someone who's been through pain and understands it. Someone who chooses to still see joy and happiness in his life while fully understanding how cruel the world is.

Simply, I'm a sucker for doomed character archetypes. There is no version of Rafayel's and mc's story where they both end happy. Millions of people will die or if mc kills herself Rafayel will live forever as a husk of his former self. Using a sassy, filirty, bratty attitude to cover up such a genuinely depressing story is so juicy to me.

Rafayel is for the eldest daughters who needs their inner child to be free, who needs a little bit of ridiculousness and impulsiveness in their lives.

Rafayel is for those who never got praised for their effort or strength, for those who success was the only option, who had to be perfect, reliable and serious all the time. He makes it so clear how much simply being with you means to him, constantly complimenting, flirting, and reassuring you just how much he needs you. Showing you how obsessed with you he is.

Rafayel is for those who didn't think love had a place in their lives due to shit family or life circumstances. He proves time and time again that you're the only one he loves. Even though he's lived forever, you were worth the wait and that he would wait again for you, no matter how long it takes. He proves you can be loved, and that it comes easy.

Rafayel is for those who always placed others first. He's more than willing to show you again and again you will always be first in his mind. He needs you more than he does water. Sure, you can take care of him, but he wants to be with you and take care of you, too.

Rafayel is for those who need someone else to drag them out of work/school/spiralling even when they don't want to admit it, bringing in laughter, color, and a little bit of dramatics.

Rafayel is for creators who dedicate themselves to their craft, who are scared of losing this "spark," who want to get better but constantly feel that what they create isn't enough or must be more. 

Rafayel is for hopeless romantics, those that go out of their way to surprise their friends during their birthdays, those who plan platonic dates for those they care about, those who put out so much love into the world and suddenly break when they get that love back.

Rafayel is for those used to having little siblings or those to take care of in our lives. Only while Rafayel relishes in the attention, he's also ready to give it back five-fold.

Rafayel is a switch for switch (brat for brat) lmao. He's for those who like to start on top, teasing and pushing his buttons to get all those cute reactions out of him, just until he breaks. Then he can take control and finish us up. We love vocal men.

Maybe projecting, but Rafayel is the perfect bi-girl's boyfriend. He's a classic pretty boy, unafraid to be in touch with his feminine side, a little dramatic, a little artsy. But he's also super romantic, sensitive, loving, and intense. And gosh, who could say no to those big puppy eyes?

I could probably continue to talk about Rafayel for hours, but ya, hopefully this helps answer why I and others love this man. Just continue on with the main story and read between the lines with his dialogue and I'm sure you'll pick up on it too~

Ugh I explained this to Nat before but that was a vm and now I have to try to put it into text lol. Bear with me. Spoilers for Sonic 3 below...

So like Okay, original game Robotnik has that "machines are better than people and I love them and I hate people" thing going on. And movie universe Jimbotnik does the same thing right. Except his reasons for preferring machines are a little weird? To say the least.

When most people aspire to the perfection of the blessed machine they tend to focus on how machines are perfect because they aren't saddled with those pathetic human emotions, and how they're stronger and smarter and more perfect and all that. And like. There are elements of that with movie Robotnik don't get me wrong, he bullies Sonic for loving his friends, but we all know that's bullshit because his actual personality complex trauma thing stems entirely from being hurt that people don't like him? and nobody's ever genuinely cared about him enough to not betray/leave him, as we learned in movie 3. Daddy issues, et cetera.

The actual first reason he gives for why he prefers his robots, in movie 1, is that they do what they're told and they never need time off to go do stuff other than what they're told. What's worse is that he outright ignores the part about machines that don't line up with what he is. Machines are cold unfeeling things right? And Robotnik is a madman, just complete ditz entirely controlled by his emotions. He's all over the place. So obviously that isn't why he actually likes them. Nor does it seem to be because they're smarter or stronger.

Now all this wouldn't quite have clicked in my head and started forming a pattern, if I hadn't spent half a day getting ahold of reading the movie novelizations lol, they're not good exactly but they aren't bad either (not exactly) and they have this really interesting. Detail. Take. Choice, even, that stood out to me. In the novels we get exactly zero scenes written from Agent Stone's perspective. So he's entirely filtered through Robotnik as we see him. And, like. Robotnik ascribes? Robotic traits to him? That he straight up doesn't have?

This being the most infamous example... But it happens again at least once, which is a lot for the novels cus they're short as hell, where (from Botnik's pov) Stone takes on this more mechanical tone when talking to him or being around him, that he seems to like or prefer/speak positively of. Okay. Weird, homoerotic, but not entirely out of character.

It did make me think though. If Robotnik is kind of loose about why he actually likes machines. But is still adamant that they're good and humans are bad... And what he actually likes about them seems to be that they're... Loyal? I think. And they do what they're told. And they don't need time off to see their families and get laid and leave him alone I'm so sorry then. Well.

Those are traits a human being could very well have. For example, his actual human assistant, who's standing right fucking there as he says it. Right? Stone is still all that, he's loyal and he actually likes + is nice to him and he does what he's told and that's why he actually likes him, as we find out in movie 3, right? So.

What I'm saying is when. In the third movie when he says you were the only person who ever blah blah right. And, like, of course he was. Who would want to be loyal to? This dickhead who mostly wants to achieve world domination? Why would you want to do what a villain says? But Robotnik doesn't care about that, he likes being a villain and above that he's just hurt, right, by it all, and doesn't gaf if his own actions affect others so.

So he ascribes robotic traits to Stone not because they're actually there (Stone is professional when talking to others, but far from emotionless, and it is in fact his emotional connection to the dear doctor that makes him as loyal as he is) but. Rather because in his mind, Stone is on the same level as a robot, because he has the same traits that Robotnik actually. Likes about his robots. That mainly being loyalty, I think.

And, well. In the third movie granpappy Geralt hacks those robots of his and makes them stop obeying him, doesn't he. Not even they were entirely loyal by the end, much like Geralt himself, right?

You can't hack a human being, though.

Anyway. Keep your heads up, okay? I'm like. 99% sure Robotnik is fine (fight me in the comments I guess) and I tend to be good at predicting this stuff so he'll be back one way or another. Jim Carrey officially un-retired, the space station time travel thing is still an active theory, and they can't just fucking kill Eggman guys, come on. Cheers!🥂

Three of Wands, Strength, Marigold - Positivity

The first thing I'm seeing for this pile is tanned skin and defined muscles. Your person looks like they spend the whole day under the sun. I'm literally seeing them wet as if they had just come out of water. An interesting detail I just got is that they have body hair, especially for the men they seem to have hair on their chest and tights. I feel like for most of you this person has really dark eyes, the lightest color I can see here is a darker shade of hazel eyes. No matter what they have warm and very expressive eyes. It's the type of eyes that you feel safe just looking at them, honestly.

Speaking of warmth and safety I think that your person just radiates those vibes, especially if they're a man. They seem/are someone who's reliable and handy, basically someone who you can call at any time of day or night and you know that they'll find some way to help you. They also seem the type of person who really cares about the safety of your friends, not just yours. This is very specific to some of you, it doesn't really apply to everyone, but your person also has a bit of a himbo energy. Like they have a really good heart, very good looking and strong looking too, but not much going on in their pretty head. But, again, this is just for some of you! One of the main things I'm seeing is that your person is very hopeful and definitely an optimist. This person has a bleeding heart and they're always trying to help whenever they can. They might do volunteer work or community work of some kind, but this is someone who really cares about their community and the world around them. A bit random, but your person might cry very easily, just like watching a commercial or something like that. It seems that they are very emotional. A bit like pile 1 in that sense, but I also feel that your person has been through a lot and that's exactly what made them kinder and made them worry more about the people around them. Very, very specific but I think that hunger and poverty is something that really "hurts" them if that makes sense. It would be the thing that they would just erase if they could.

Okay, the first thing I'm seeing is that your person loves eating and cooking and feeding people to be honest. They see meals almost as a sacred ritual that helps to create stronger bonds with other people. I feel like they're really good cooks, especially because they have a good palate. Your person also seems like the type of person that is really close to their family, like calling/texting them every day, sharing a meal together every weekend, that kind of stuff.

This person might have OCD or something like that, but their daily rituals seem very important to them. When they laugh it makes other people want to laugh as well. You may get an instinct to protect them at times, because it seems that they are too innocent for this harsh world. They're definitely dreamers and they think that even the smallest action can change the world. They have strong beliefs about what they think is wrong with the world and what should be changed.

When it comes to appearance I'm seeing blonde or light brown hair, maybe even some ginger here too or maybe a brass tone. In general, I'm seeing really long hair, especially for the women, and mostly wavy or curly. Although I think that the shorter your person's hair is the curlier it is. For their eyes I also lighter eyes here, even the brown eyes are more of a honey shade. The most striking thing though is that your person - no matter what they look like - is very beautiful. They get other people's attention precisely because of how physically striking they are. I feel like they tend to be very symmetrical and their bodies are very good looking too. It seems that they tend to be taller and curvier, both men and women.

While doing the reading for this pile "Ocean Eyes" suddenly came up so I really feel like your person is probably going to have blue or green eyes, maybe even hazel too. I also feel like their eyes have this very emotional quality to them, it's like you could get lost them in them because they're so expressive. Honestly, I get a very big Ian Somerhalder vibe here like with the dark hair and very light eyes and that contrast. I think that in general your person is a person of contrasts, of light and dark and even contradictions.

Do you know that Walt Whitman's poem "Do I contradict myself? / Very well then I contradict myself / (I am large I contain multitudes)"? I think that they really embody these lines. Your person is very, very poetic pile 4. Maybe they're into literature (especially the classics) or they really love reading/writing poetry. This person is very deep, but again, filled with contradictions. They are hard to understand because they seem to be many things all at once. It's a very Gemini energy to be honest.

Apart from this your person is also very successful. They may come from money or they worked really hard until they got to where they are. No matter what though they dedicate a lot of their time to their work, to the point that they can't even rest properly because they can't take their mind off work. I feel like the little devil sometimes really wants them to cause some mischief or chaos and they try to control this. Honestly, what I'm getting from this is that they may annoy you on purpose, for their own amusement. I don't think that this is toxic, it's more meaningless stuff that will make you laugh rather than really annoy you.

What I can tell you pile 4 is that your person is very, very unique. I think you'll know it's them as soon as you meet them because you'll think that you've never met someone like this.

My Rings of Power re-watch is continuing slowly now that I have more time (though not always more attention span for anything except games, thanks dissertation -> my mother nearly dying -> getting COVID). But one of the things I'm really enjoying about Galadriel in ROP is that it doesn't always frame her as the wisest and most insightful person in every interaction she has, and in fact it is clear that she's fucking up in very significant ways because of how hard and relentless she's become through her eons of suffering and her determination to exact a price for it. She is not well!

However, she is nevertheless right about some very important matters that most people don't want to see, and she's being condescended to by men of her people who are much younger, less experienced, and less correct than she is, and it's continually emphasized that she is the most individually powerful and competent Elf around regardless of any of this and that her fuck-ups, while disastrous, are cool and sexy of her also.

So many male action heroes are troubled men haunted by whatever their particular tragic pasts are, but these men are also super impressive and badass (often to a degree far beyond all probability) in a harsh, capable way founded on never giving up ever, so while they are permitted to make major errors, it's in a cool and sexy way that just makes them more appealing.

This isn't a condemnation of that; there's a place for that kind of action hero and I tend to enjoy them when it's not copaganda or something. But I like women, and I like women to benefit from a full package of tropes that are often watered down when female characters get any part of them at all, so I enjoy a female character in something that historically has been such a dudefest getting full unhinged brooding hypercompetent action hero treatment.

I even fully support the show prioritizing Galadriel getting the good wig. Her hair flowing dramatically in the wind is actually more important than someone like Celebrimbor getting dramatic impractical action hair (with love, he's an arts and crafts nerd hung up on his academia celebrity grandfather, nothing about this demands good hair).

But I also like it not only in general and not only for a female character, but also for Galadriel specifically. I was just re-reading the description of her in the Shibboleth of Fëanor, and (Teleporno aside) it tracks pretty well. The whole thing about young Galadriel's burning determination to pursue Fëanor to the ends of the earth and thwart him in whatever ways she could seems exactly the sort of thing ROP Galadriel would do, and while ROP is set much later, the Shibboleth suggests that Galadriel was still recognizably that person for long afterwards:

"Pride still moved her when, at the end of the Elder Days after the final overthrow of Morgoth, she refused the pardon of the Valar ... It was not until two long ages more had passed, when at last all that she had desired in her youth came to her hand, the Ring of Power and the dominion of Middle-earth of which she had dreamed, that her wisdom was full grown."

There's a lot of Galadriel material that Tolkien wrote and he continually overhauled, revised, discarded, and amended the Galadriel backstory to such an extent that her history is one of the most chaotic, tangled, and irreconcilable zones of Tolkien lore. I don't think anyone is obligated to prioritize Shibboleth Galadriel if they have a different preferred version. But I really love that version of Galadriel and it does make her seem like probably the best canon female character option of this era for Action Hero Disaster Area (In A Cool and Sexy Way).

Arcane Daemon AU:

Character: Sevika Dæmon’s name: Rustam / 'Rust' Dæmon’s form: Spotted hyena (Crocuta crocuta)

As a consequence of being so vertical (and so dangerous a place to live), Zaunite daemons tend to be nimble and agile, if only so they can keep up with their humans as they parkour across the rooftops. If your daemon can't do that, then when backed into a corner you've got no choice but to fight. A Zaunite with a daemon who can't fly, climb, or hide, therefore, is clearly not someone to be fucked with.

And with a bite force of over 1100 psi, spotted hyenas are one of the most not-to-be-fucked-with critters around. In fact, the only animal in their environment that's arguable even more not-to-be-fucked-with is the African lion, which makes it all the more tragic that Ambessa and Sevika never got to interact in season 2.

Hyenas are social animals, but compared to other animals that live in groups, their dynamics are more competitive than cooperative. Likewise, Sevika, though a team player rather than a lone wolf, generally prefers to assert her dominance rather than seek consensus.

Speaking of dominance, hyena clans are matriarchal, with females being larger and more dominant than males, which seems fitting for Sevika being the bossest-ass bitch in Zaun.

In fact, due to their larger size, aggressive behavior, and some unconventional sexual anatomy, female hyenas have often been mistaken for males, and the species in general has long been associated with hermaphroditism and gender deviance (as well as just deviance in general). And while she isn't exactly butch, cigar-chomping, hard-drinking, hard-brawling, whiskey-drinking, brothel-patronizing, Clint-Eastwood-ass poncho-wearing Sevika is (in my opinion) the most masc-coded female character in the show.

That said, Rust is a male hyena, which are less dominant than the females; and while she can (and eventually does) have the skills to be a leader, we see over and over that Sevika would rather follow a strong leader than have to be one herself: first with Vander, then with Silco. She only steps up into a leadership position in season 2 because there's literally no one else who wants the job.

Despite her serious demeanor, Sevika has bit of a wild streak, as displayed by her fondness for gambling and the savage joy with which she fights. If a person's daemon represents their true self, an expression of the parts of themselves they usually keep under wraps, then it makes sense to me that Sevika's daemon should be one associated with chaos, violence, and wild, hysterical laughter.

(That said, hyenas are not nearly as vicious or scary as their reputation might lead one to think, and I believe that's true of Sevika as well.)

Though the fur of wild hyenas is quite short and sparse, hyenas taken to live in colder climates do grow thicker coats. Since Zaun is a lot more temperate than the Serengeti, I decided Rust is likewise a bit of a fluffy boi.

Although their fur is normally short, spotted hyenas still sport their distinctive mohawk ridge along their spine, which seemed fitting considering Sevika's punk-rock glow-up in season 2.

Like Sevika, Rust also has some scars from the hextech explosion (although he was able to keep all his limbs). Also, like Sevika, his eyes glow whenever she injects Shimmer.

Although they resemble canines, hyenas are actually more closely related to cats than to dogs--and as it turns out, they're even more closely related to mongooses. Since I consider Sevika to be a pretty clear narrative foil for Vi (especially in season 1) you can imagine how this realization delighted me, since I had already decided long ago what Vi's daemon was.

Rust's name is also tied in with Vi's daemon, whose name is Setanta, i.e. the childhood name of Cu Chulainn, the Irish folk hero. Rustam, or Rostam, is the name of a Persian folk hero whose legend shares several features with Cu Chulainn's. Coincidence? Quite possibly! But I thought it was neat anyway. And I wanted to continue the trend I'd established of Zaunite daemons having names that could be shortened to one-syllable, thematically-appropriate words (Set, Rig, Sin, Rust).

I am partway through Ace Attorney Dual Destinies and I have...mixed feelings, to say the least.

First what I like. I really like Athena! I think she's a cool character with a bright personality that contrasts nicely with Phoenix and Apollo, who are more deadpan and sarcastic. Her specialization in psychology is interesting (although I wish it was used more organically, more on that later). She's also "not too skilled", in that while she is talented and well-meaning, she still makes blunders and doesn't always think things through.

The interactions between the three lawyers (Phoenix, Apollo and Athena) are really fun. All of them play off each other nicely and their discussions are fun and engaging. Phoenix seems to have come into his role as a mentor now that his name has been cleared but he still tends to be rather hands-off and lets Apollo and Athena figure things out by themselves, which is understandable and which I prefer to him constantly looking over their shoulders. The decision to alternate between the three as to who is the defense leader and the co-counsel is genius ! I suppose it is controversial in the fanbase, but I like seeing the different thought processes and energies brought by each character.

Simon Blackquill is fun! He took a little getting used to, but after a few trials I am starting to like him. Putting aside the whatthefuckitism that Japanifornia apparently allows convicted prisoners to serve as prosecutors (there's so many things wrong with it I don't know where to start...), he's a good opponent, not too unreasonable, I love his pet bird, and his interactions with the judge are fun! He's so obviously done with Fullbright which is absolutely hilarious (I can relate buddy).

I really enjoy the quality of life improvements, like the investigation part being more linear so that I don't have to go back and forth between settings and present all the evidence in the court record to every damn character to get hints as to what I have to do next (to be honest, aside from a few exceptions I don't enjoy these parts that much and largely prefer the trial part). The checklist is also a nice addition (although with the investigations being more linear it is mostly useless, but still a good addition).

The transition to 3D is... mweh. The new characters modeled in 3D are great, but the old ones... tend to go between "okay I guess" and fucking bad! The models for Klavier and Trucy are atrocious to see! The new models for the settings are gorgeous though, especially the court setting.

Now for what I don't like. This game feels very anime-esque. Ace Attorney has always been unhinged in terms of characters, murders, reactions, etc and I love it, but this game has brought some of anime's worst trend, like the "overtalking", where characters talk without giving any new information and without the dialogue being very interesting or even funny. Like for example, "She would never do that!", "But she did it! And I have evidence!", "Your evidence is bullshit! You're being mean to my friend! She would not do that!" and it makes the cases drag so much! The first case took me a while to get through simply because of that! They also brought more insistence on the "power of friendship" especially in the third case and it completely took me out of the game. The first trilogy also had friendship moments but they were more subdued and more organic. When it comes to character relationships, I am a big supporter of the "less is more" and "actions speak louder than words". If you need your characters to loudly and repeatedly proclaim the existence of their friendship for the audience to believe it, chances are you messed up somewhere. It was especially egregious when Professor Means crushed Athena's spirits in the trial and when practically every character involved in the case had to cheer her up. That was such an awkwardly brought moment. I also felt that it devalued Athena as a character to have her so easily crushed by the words of a witness, words that weren't even so bad in context. If she had been shown struggling all throughout the trial, losing confidence, slipping up, getting flashbacks and all, then yes it might have made sense, but as it was done it was more like

Athena: I have finally found the real muderer! He's slippery and clever but I know I can prove that he did it! He and his philosophy are going down! 😤😤😾😾💪💪 Pr. Means: You suck lady! You can't defend your friend and you also almost got her friend accused of murder! You can't protect anyone! Athena: OMG it's true 😭😭😢😢😩😩I suck and I am going to fail!

I am making allowance for Athena clearly having trauma and it being her first trial, but it could have been written better is what I'm saying.

Finally, the mood matrix is... a thing. I like it in theory but it is so awkwardly introduced. It feels so obviously tacked on for it to be Athena's "thing". Compare that to the Magatama, that reacts when people are hiding things, and the "Perceive" mechanic that allows Apollo to see when people lie. Yes these are obviously outlandish and brought it to add a game mechanic, but they feel more organic that Athena just pulling out a holographic computer and reading people's emotions.

I am not discounting the possibility of me being a tad too harsh on the game. I do have to say however that it is the first one that feels like a chore to get through to get to "the good stuff" (meaning the last trial because I know it will have Phoenix and Edgeworth facing each other in court and Athena and Simon's backstory). So far, I am afraid to say it is my least favorite of the bunch....

fine. i'll scream into a pillow periodically and get through this...

obviously, i don't actually find the concept of harmony sincerely upsetting - people shipping things is never that deep, and because, as i've said before, i subscribe to the principle that any pairing is possible if you just have enough nerve. i've been recommended some harmony fics by people who are fonder of the ship, and while i've not found them immediately compelling, i do appreciate that there are plenty of people who disagree.

but my feelings are basically the same for harmony as they are for dramione: that it's never done interestingly.

harmony is - like all hermione pairings except [broadly] romione - a breeding ground for fanon!hermione, who is perfect and flawless and so clever she can solve millennia-old mysteries in afternoon. i hate this version of the character because i find her boring - it's just standard self-insert stuff, which is fine but not something i have any interest in reading. i similarly dislike the version of harry who appears in these stories, who ends up - like all men in hermione pairings except [broadly] ron - being either this impossibly sophisticated and suave intellectual with the body of a greek god or a doormat who's happy to shut the fuck up forever and do whatever she says.

[i also hate - obviously, since he's my king - the way harmony stories are often even more egregious than dramione ones in writing ron as a cruel and violent misogynist who is ontologically indistinct from your average death eater. and i think it somewhat proves my point that neither of these ships work particularly well that this character assassination has to take place in order to make them plausible...]

and i think the flattening of harry and hermione's personalities within most harmony is the main thing which keeps the ship from being interesting. because - while i certainly don't go in for the common anti-harmony argument that harry actively dislikes hermione - it's undeniable that there is a lot about the two of them which wouldn't be conducive to a harmonious [lol] relationship.

their communication styles - hermione works through problems by debating them, harry prefers not to be challenged - are the obvious one. their ways of expressing affection - hermione shows people she cares about them by nagging them and meddling in their lives, harry very much does not - are another. they have extremely different views about authority, they decompress in different ways [harry is someone who clearly needs to keep physically active to clear his head, hermione is much more of a homebody], and harry's impulsiveness is a poor match for hermione's fondness for planning.

they are also similar in ways which would cause them to butt heads. both have a tendency towards obsessiveness, which they rely in canon on ron pulling them out of. both have a significant capacity for cruelty and extremely black-and-white moral codes - harry has a tendency towards forming judgements on people and situations based on whether they are people he likes or things he benefits from [i.e. how he's appalled by dobby's treatment because his masters are the malfoys, but doesn't give a shit about kreacher's because his abusive master is sirius], while hermione tends to regard any rule-breaking she does as justified even if she'd regard it as outrageous from anyone else [i.e. her fury over harry appearing to use felix felicis to improve's ron's performance at quidditch when she herself confunded cormac mclaggen to get him onto the team...]. both have a tendency towards giving people the silent treatment when they're angry. both are incredibly stubborn...

and so on.

obviously, they also have positive qualities in common too - a shared loyalty, for one - but it always seems to me that the standard move in harmony is for authors to completely ignore these conflicting traits, either really over-egging what makes harry and hermione compatible platonically in the books or just inventing similarities [especially intellectual ones] to justify the pairing. whereas i would much prefer to see just how difficult it would be for harry and hermione to fall and sustain being in love with each other, and i've never seen that done compellingly.

but the conflict i'd love to see explored in harmony fics most of all, but which never seems to be acknowledged by fans of the pairing, is that [despite the fanon slander that ron is the person who behaves poorly towards her] harry is often horrible to hermione and hermione is often scared of harry.

this is at its most profound after ron leaves the horcrux hunt in deathly hallows, but we see several times throughout canon that - if ron isn't there to mediate between them - harry often treats hermione in a way which can be considered downright cruel. if she criticises him in a way he considers unjustifiable, he tends to side with other people against her [ron in prisoner of azkaban over the firebolt; ginny in half-blood prince over snape's textbook]. if she tries to reason with him he often beats her down with the force of his emotions [i.e. when she tries to get him to think about whether his vision of sirius in the department of mysteries might be a trick] or his convictions [i.e. when he lures her into near-death by being certain that nagini is really bathilda bagshot], and she often ends up having to soothe or appease him when he's the one who's screamed at her.

hermione is also scared more generally of harry's experiences - she's by far the least amenable of the trio to talking about voldemort [even though she says his name earlier than ron does] - and mission, which puts up a barrier between them which will be difficult to bring down post-war. i think there's something which could be really interesting there - the most interesting dynamic in hinny, after all, is when harry and ginny's tendency to not actually be honest with each other is explored - but unfortunately at the minute that sort of character work is drowning in a sea of "ron is so stupid and harry and i just love talking about classic literature, come darling, put on your leather trousers and let us solve world hunger; i look like emma watson" nonsense.

The Date…or Style’s version of it

Style arrives at the cozy bar-restaurant to meet Fadel. The warm lighting and soft background music create an inviting atmosphere. Before long, he spots Fadel sitting alone at a table, looking rather passive. Style stops and takes in the sight. Fadel's face is undeniably striking. Style saunters over, and when Fadel sees him approaching, he stands to greet him.

“Hi,” Style boisterously greets, receiving a ghost of a smile from Fadel, who mutters an almost inaudible response.

Style tips his chin down a bit to look above the rim of his glasses at Fadel. The guy is dressed in all black—T-shirt and jeans—just like in the picture Style saw. Style finds it both stunning and refreshing that Fadel is striking in how plain he is. Sure, his face is gorgeous, but apart from that and how tall and fit he is, there is nothing else to say about him.

His hair is barely styled, and his outfit is plain and simple. It’s hard to tell if he made any effort for this date. If not, Style feels a little offended but also impressed that someone can look this great on an effortless day.

There’s a mild scowl on Fadel's face that seems permanent, and this, coupled with his imposing demeanor, gives him an unwelcoming vibe. He’s like one of those mysterious loners who prefer to be left alone.

Trust Kant’s scheming ass and his seemingly sweet but actually psycho boyfriend to set Style up with a fucking creep.

But at least Fadel is handsome. In this life, if you’re going to be a creep, at least look good doing it.

Style’s gaze holds Fadel’s with intensity, and he notices the way Fadel’s eyes drop momentarily to check him out. The lingering gaze and the subtle yet unmistakable appraisal suggest an attraction that is both unexpected and welcome. Style can feel the buzz of possibility in the air—perhaps it signifies hope, a spark of something more, or maybe it’s just a fleeting appreciation of his undeniable appeal.

Style is aware that his allure tends to draw people in, but this feels different, more personal. Maybe Fadel is just enjoying the view, or maybe, just maybe, there's potential for a deeper connection. Whatever it means, Style finds himself eager to discover where it might lead.

They sit and order some beer.

Style waits for Fadel to comment on his outfit but surprisingly he doesn’t. When Style walked in, Fadel’s what-the-fuck-is-gong-on-here facial expression was obvious to him; and so it’s odd that there is no comment at all whether good or bad.

“You’re much hotter in real life than in the pictures I saw,” Style blurts out, unable to contain his thoughts.

Fadel doesn’t reply, his silence hanging in the air like a question mark. In an effort to break the ice, Style launches into a stream of small talk, filling the space with his words. He’s used to being the talker, the one who keeps the conversation afloat, but Fadel’s reaction is different from what he’s accustomed to.

Style has grown used to seeing people’s eyes glaze over, their expressions turning burdened and appalled by his nonstop chatter. He’s had dates frown at him, complain about his talking, or even flat-out ditch him mid-conversation. But Fadel is a different story. He just stares at Style with a neutral expression, sipping his beer with an air of calm detachment.

Fadel is harder to read than anyone Style has encountered before, and it piques his curiosity. Is Fadel merely unbothered by the yapping, or does he genuinely not care about anything that’s happening here? The uncertainty makes Style even more eager to crack the enigma that is Fadel.

“Do you always wear black clothes? You had on black clothes in the pictures I saw, and you’re in black tonight,” Style continues talking. Before Fadel can answer, he goes on, “The look gives you a mysterious vibe. It also goes with your tan skin.”

Silence.

Style lifts an eyebrow at Fadel as if expectantly, and Fadel answers by lifting his as well in an asking manner.

“So, is black your thing?” Style insists, wondering why Fadel hasn’t answered the question.

Fadel fixes Style with another one of his unreadable looks before finally answering, “I’m more inclined towards darker colors.”

Style wonders if it’s a thing for Fadel to make his audience wait forever before giving an answer. It’s kind of irritating, but Fadel is really beautiful to look at, so Style is trying to practice tolerance with him.

“I’m the opposite. If I could wear all colors and prints at once, I would.” Style shares

“I can tell.” Fadel mutters

“The body should be a canvas.”

“No one really says that.”

“I say it.”

“Do you also always wear sunglasses indoors at night?”

“There’s no reason not to.”

“Is it sensible?”

“Fuck sense.”

Right about now Style expects Fadel to comment on his outlandish outfit as well or ask questions at least since the subject is at the table.

Style even stops his talking to give Fadel a second chance to hopefully speak his mind about it.

A good number of minutes tick by and Fadel doesn’t say anything. Style wonders whether this means Fadel doesn’t care about Style’s fashion sense or he would just rather keep his opinion to himself.

Either one is Style’s opinion is a show of respect for someone else’s choices. Style likes that Fadel is demonstrating the kind of attitude.

“Life is an adventure.” Style goes on to say. “Overthinking things is a thief of joy.” At this point, Style stops and waits to see what Fadel says. His approach to life tends to be controversial for some people, and so he’s eager to hear the thoughts of someone as mysterious as Fadel.

The last thing Style expects to hear Fadel say is, “I used to be a hit man.”

The statement literally comes out of nowhere and it is as alarming as it gets. Nothing on earth could possibly prepare Style for a reveal like that.

Silence. Again.

Style’s jaw drops, and he lowers his glasses in obvious shock. He feels the hair at the nape of his neck stand in sheer horror because… what the fuck? Who,,,? what…? huh…?

“Are you kidding?” he asks in a small voice, hoping that this is just Fadel’s weird brand of humor. That wouldn’t be surprising for a dark, broody guy like him.

But then Fadel shakes his head, his expression dead serious. Style swallows thickly, trying to process the information while searching Fadel’s eyes for traces of humor, mockery… something. There is nothing but seriousness.

“So you… killed people—” Style starts to probe, but Fadel cuts him off.

“-For money, yes.” Fadel’s tone is flat and matter-of-fact.

Style continues studying Fadel, analyzing every subtle cue. Maybe Fadel is great at concealing his emotions and thoughts, but not his body language. And Style can read body language like a children’s storybook.

There is an almost undetectable ghost of a smile on Fadel’s lips. His shoulders are relaxed, and the fingers of his left hand, which are wrapped around his beer, are lightly tapping on the glass every few seconds.

Suddenly, everything clicks into place for Style. Fadel is far too calm for someone who just dropped such a horrendous detail about their past. Fadel must have said this deliberately to frighten Style. Style thinks that this truth is too serious to be a lie, so it must be true. But they are practically strangers, and Fadel has no reason to share this about himself, save for the intention to scare Style away.

Fadel doesn’t want to be here on this date. He could have used his straightforwardness to simply tell Style that he’s not feeling it. But instead, Fadel went this hard to get rid of Style. Probably for good.

Style’s thoughts shift from shock to admiration. He thinks it’s badass that Fadel is so used to permanently ending things. It’s sexy that he is willing to the extra mile to have his way.

Style will be damned, but if anything, Fadel just stole his heart.

Finally, Style has met someone as crazy as him.

Fadel doesn’t show his crazy like Style does, but he’s crazy alright.  

This way, Style’s initial horror melts away, and his face transforms completely as he laughs lightly and says, “Cool.”

It is Fadel’s turn to be shocked, “What do you mean cool?”

Style nonchalantly shrugs a shoulder, thinking two can play this game. Fadel thinks he’s wild? He’s just met his match. “What do you want me to say?” He asks Fadel with a maliciously clueless expression on his face. He almost cracks and grins at how flustered Fadel looks. So Fadel does have emotions after all when the right buttons are pushed. Fadel’s reaction to all this is like a high for Style, and now he kinda wants to see what other things get a reaction out of his stoic demeanor.

“Isn’t that a red flag for you?” Fadel asks, cutting off Style’s train of thought.

“Do you spit on the street?”

Fadel looks momentarily confused, then seems to catch himself, “That’s disgusting.”

“Do you cut in line when you go to places where you have to queue up?”

“No. That’s rude.”

“Do you gamble?”

“No.”

“Are you impolite to elders?”

“I try to avoid drawing negative attention to myself.”

“Then you’re a catch,” Style concludes with finality because, in his book, Fadel truly is a catch. The questions Style just asked pertain to the things he genuinely can’t stand. The fact that Fadel has killed for money is not that off-putting. Style would choose a killer any day over an ill-mannered jerk.

Fadel still looks surprised. “You’re okay with the fact that I’ve killed people as long as I don’t spit on the ground in public?”

“It’s a nasty habit, that.”

Fadel stares intently at Style, visibly pensive.

“How do you feel about heavy metal music?” Fadel asks after a moment, and Style could be wrong, but Fadel wouldn’t ask the question if the purpose were not to invite him to a heavy metal concert or something.

So, “I fucking hate it,” he admits, but then he also wants to spend more time with Fadel, so he adds, “but we can go to that.”

“You just said that you hate it.”

“You asked the question, so you must like heavy metal. It’s the first thing you shared about yourself tonight without the intent to run me off; I’m hoping that while we’re out doing something you enjoy, you’ll be more forthcoming about yourself.”

Style wants to see what else is hiding behind the seriousness, the good manners, and the plain outfits. Style believes that just as expressive people sometimes do it to distract others from seeing who they really are and what they feel; being impassive is also a way of hiding one self’s true character by silently telling people there-is-nothing-special-to-see-here-please-move-along.

“How do you feel about live music then?” Fadel asks, slicing through Style’s train of thought.

“What happened to running me off?” Style challenges with a raised eyebrow. “What changed your mind? Is it my body? Have you decided you want to sleep with me at least once? You can be honest. I know I’m sexy.” Style uses this opportunity to find out whether Fadel is just another guy attracted to him for his body.

Style works hard on his physique, and of course, he likes that people notice and want him for it. But tonight, he is attracted to Fadel on a level that goes deeper than just the physical. It would be nice if Fadel also feels a connection between them.

“You seem outrageous and shallow, but you’re actually complex. I’m curious about you. Also, you’re a mechanic.” Fadel pauses for a moment, then adds, “That’s hot.”

Style flushes, ducking his head and feeling flustered for the first time tonight. Most people think Style is nothing more than just a mouthy pretty face with close to no brains.

Fadel sees more in him and that’s nice.  

“I like live music,” Style finally answers Fadel’s question.

“Then let’s go to a live music show after we leave this place.”

Style can’t resist flirting with Fadel a little bit, “I thought I’d finally get to kiss you under the moonlight and run my hands across the wide expanse of your chest, but live music is fine too.”

Fadel smiles for the first time that night and says, “Don’t despair. We’ll have plenty of time after the live music show.”

Firstly, Fadel’s smile—wow. Style has never witnessed a mere smile transform someone so completely. In an instant, Fadel is all soft, cute, and warm. Combined with his soulful eyes and fluffy full head of hair, he is almost adorable. It’s the spiciest blend of cute and sexy Style has ever seen. Fadel is giving off this fuck each other’s brains out then cuddle up afterwards energy.

Style could get into that.

Secondly, the fact that Fadel knows Style isn’t kidding about kissing under the moonlight and is okay with his lack of finesse—maybe Style has found the one.

Omg hi! I very recently got REALLY into Strangled Red so finding your writing for it was such a nice surprise, it's feeding my hyperfixation for this man so well. I love how you write and portray him especially since I'm a sucker for character phycology. guess who’s back on tumblr after trying to unalive themselves 😍 i don’t really wanna talk about my absence and go into the depths of the reasoning why, so i’ll just talk about why this account was made - which was for hamzah and slushy noobz. i want to have my own little thinkpiece on the match as well as my place in the slushy community moving forward

i want to say the match and the production is the reason why i love them soo much. they have such an ability of creating cinema with their videos, hence why one of my favourite video from them is the camping video (i tend to watch this video more for comfort rather than for humour though) – and there’s an immense amount of payoff as a viewer watching their content, you can see all the layered inside iokes (i.e having aldo, and nettspend’s producers) and internet jokes culminate in something so carefully crafted (like the way chase’s commentary was genuinely good??). and then the obvious reasons as to why i liked it, hamzah looked so damn good, and he knows it too (i also find martin attractive too, i’d just prefer not to talk about it too much in respect to his relationship). there’s something so beautifully boyish about their content that i can’t find something else (as much as i love them and before anyone says it, no - the dancing gamers cannot replace hamzah and martin and that’s okay!)

however this video kind of cemented why i don’t think i’ll continue regularly engaging with their content. this video kind of felt like a bittersweet ending to one of my favourite eras in my life (watching them). and before i proceed, ik the reddit fans are gonna be annoying - on a side note of the reddit fans i feel like the reddit community is so pedantic over small stuff and because of the few, genuine bad eggs in the community, they over correct and just get so bitter and mad about everything (i.e them being so cruel to fanfic writers) and call everyone chronically online whilst they use the same old “*insert trending braintrot joke* 💜”. i feel so aged out in a fandom even though i’m 18 - i can’t imagine how the slushies who are actually around hamzah and martin’s age feel when their fandom is so reminiscent and full of the same 14 year olds that i’m convinced are the reincarnations of the 2021 14 year old dsmp fans. definitely more sane, i’ll give them that. but community aside, at least reddit community, i want to talk about something another one of my mutuals mentioned recently in their own post and it’s how money hungry they seem. two things can exist at once, let’s get that straight - hamzah and martin don’t get a lot of sponsorships but also being upset that so much of this well awaited come back was heavy promotion for the patreon which, mind you, had a decent amount of members subscribed (i do commend hamzah for encouraging people to unsubscribe over the break!) and also they get money off of ad revenue. i just personally find it egregious that their hoodies, the out of character ones, which are at least unique designs unlike them literally reselling temu shirts like the “find x” shirts, are the same price, in my currency, to the essentials fear of god hoodies.

for any south africans here, it was around like R900 for a hoodie! which is gross im sorry :)

there are also other reasons im distanced from them, and its their associations with chase and claire - i made a, now deleted, post about this before but chase has this annoying tendency i notice in white ‘queer’ (i think he’s queer lmao) men where they speak in blaccents, which was heavily highlighted to me when he was a commentator and he was able to speak in a ‘normal’ white accent, and claire made weird ass comments about black women. as well as having fucking idubzz (who im not sure why was even invited when like sm people are like “who even is he??”) who literally had to make an apology about the fact he created a racist culture with his platform, years after the damage was done. i also have other smaller issues with them that would definitely actually get me cancelled (not even over on the reddit but here). but idfk, what are yalls thoughts?

like you draw her in tiny skirts with her ass hanging out and shit constantly, in every one of your drawings is her body emphasised and on show and i just want to know what your fucking deal is? not only does it feel really mischaracterising for tsumugi, but it’s just really weird and gross. also you’ve literally never drawn a single fat character, all your characters are stick thin with different boob and hip sizes.

your rephrasing of my quotes is misleading though. ive re-emphasized the point more clearly before, but my points are based on societal standards and expectations, not my own personal preferences. big boobs small waist is the body type that gets ogled at the most, stereotypically speaking, so it makes it fun for her to have that body as her personality and the way she carries herself isnt whats commonly associated with it. with my depictions i try to take context into question. i dont just give the character a body or appearance that i like, i try to think how i can translate their character along with changing their figure (if at all). of course, i am not perfect, my stuff will not appeal to everyone and my takes might be disagreeable, and thats ok.

as for my tsumugi depiction; i dont know what you want me to say. tsumugi wears a button-up shirt with pants and a belt in canon. in my femstars version i simply change the pants into a pencil skirt. the belt is synched around the waist. its gonna make her waist look smaller than it is, as the belt is highlighting that area and creating contrast. this is a common way to dress and i honestly dont think i draw her in revealing clothes too often? like yea it happens. duh. and ive drawn some horny and suggestive art with her to add. but i do not think i go out of my way to flaunt her body or have her wear as little as humanly possible (which i dont even think would be an issue. an artist having fun is not the end of the world). i mainly do it when its, again, a suggestive drawing, or when its been for a joke. its not really meant to be anything deep sure, maybe she has her cleavage out every once in a while, but thats just. Her having boobs. i give natsume revealing clothes just as, if not more often than i do tsumugi, but people dont seem to care/notice as shes rather curveless. and idol clothes are separate from personal clothes that theyd casually wear because its what they enjoy, and its the idol clothes that tend to have that more "attractive" tinge to them her body isnt the focal point of my art very often either?? like if ur just staring at her boobs in every single one of my drawings atp thats on u

13. What makes you lose interest in a thread? generally it's an inability to focus that makes me lose interest or 'it's been six months and it'd be awkward if I replied now'.

also if people start nagging for replies. if I feel like I'm being pressured to reply (which doesn't tend to happen on here, but used to happen a lot on the forum sites I used to be on), the little bit of my brain that demands I do things because someone said not to just yeets the thread and goes, 'nag me now, bitch.' I cannot pick the thread back up because of that 'nag me now, bitch' mentality, too.

people on Tumblr are too damn busy to nag, though, so we vibing.

oh, and, there was one time (vaguely mentioned here) where someone's character: 1) broke into the Romanian safe house Bucky was in, 2) tried to force him into going with her by outright stating that he had no choice and she would physically force him if necessary (yes, the plot involved him going with her, but willingly, like after a conversation, which I'm pretty sure I mentioned), 4) threatened to grab him if he tried to run in a 'I will grab you and there's nothing you can do about it :)' way, and when he reacted badly (suspicious and unhappy, nothing physical), the mun got into my IMs to talk about how they didn't want him to distrust their character because they didn't like IC drama.

that is also going to make me lose interest in a thread because what the fuck is any of this. I'm still not fuckin over it and it was like 2-3 years ago. and at least one person I'm mutuals with knows this mun (as an ex-rp partner) and like. Idk his story with this person but my fuckin god. they tried to re-follow me at some point and I was like 'absolutely fucking not' and softblocked them. 16. What is a plot idea or otherwise character angle you want to explore more with your muse? (Bucky) haha related to that last bit.

so there's a plot with Bucky, specifically, that I've wanted for actual fuckin years. like, since before this blog was started kind of years. it's the start of my 'default but canon divergent' verse, where Bucky's found at the safe house in Romania and someone (shield agent, avenger, steve, whoever) turns up to talk him into coming back with them after the events of AoU. like, a lead came in and since they were in Eastern Europe anyway, they decided to check it out.

however, I've tried with two different fucking people to make this plot happen and the first didn't get past the starter (to be fair, it was a long starter from me) and the second was the above story, so I've given up. it's not happening. I'd love it, but it's just not going to happen. it's been tried and doesn't work so I'm taking it as a sign from the universe that it's just not a good idea.

otherwise, I think I've explored the vast majority of things related to him except the things mentioned in the master wishlist about Dmitri and HYDRA characters. the good thing about playing Bucky since 2016 is that Bucky's a very popular character. the bad thing is that he's the only character anyone is interested in so finding something new and interesting to explore is... difficult.

never had a character who was related to one of his victims meet him, though. like, I've had maybe one (very short) thread with a Tony that one of us stopped replying to and every other Tony muse I've ever seen just seem to be very chill with the killer of his parents. this one isn't happening either. no one wants the IC drama of Tony being a mouthy and Bucky just staring him down like 'why are we here? just to suffer? just to fucking suffer?! what's the point of any of this?!' Anyway, to be a little more... let's say tactful, I think Elise has a pleasant design that was simply let down by '06's in-game cutscene models. Shahra has a pretty design too, but I've never seen anyone mock hers compared to Elise. If we're counting NPCs as well, I like Hualin's design too.

In general, I think a lot of the game character designs manage to be very aesthetically pleasing... with some exceptions like Silver. Whether they're going for awesome or cute, they're usually nice. :> This is why I get really annoyed when people go "nah, these designs suck, let's make Sonic a real hedgehog and give Rouge a realistic bat face", as if they learned nothing from the original Sonic movie design.

Already answered this, but I've got another one: Mario.

It's not as common nowadays, but for a long time, Mario got demonized up the ass and was constantly painted as the true villain. This would usually come in the form of being an abusive brother to Luigi (despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary), or oppressing poor innocent Bowser (ignore all the things he's done pls).

"He's not so bad deep down" No he isn't.

"He wants to avenge Gerald" No he doesn't.

"He likes Sonic" Respects him as an opponent, hates the shit out of him as a person and would still gladly kill him without regret. Game Eggman is not Boom/X Eggman.

"He doesn't want the world to be destroyed" Because he can't conquer it if it's not there, and as shown with the Bad Futures in CD, he doesn't care what potential dire state the environments and their inhabitants are in as long as they serve him, with the only exception being his own personal quarters (ie: Metropolis in Forces). Not exactly signs of an altruistic person with good intentions at heart.

"He hasn't done anything seriously terrible like the other villains" Sure, if you ignore the time he fired a missile in a populated city. Or the time he enslaved an innocent alien race. Or the time he showed absolutely no moral grievances over Infinite's sadistic antics and only punished him for being a fuck up. Or the time he broke the planet into pieces... twice. I'm sure his repeated attempts to kill children as young as Cream can also be handwaved away.

Eggman is every bit as messed up as Black Doom, Erazor Djinn, etc. Him acting goofy and some (key word: some) of his actions being presented in a semi-comedic light should not invalidate that, especially when Surge - the so-called Forces game changer according to Evan Stanley - lost to a Motobug and tripped over some bolts.

"All of them" might as well be my catchphrase with how many times I've said it.

I'm serious though, it really does seem that I'm destined to be at odds with the rest of the fandom on virtually everything now. I absolutely hate it. It is not fun in the slightest. You wanna know why I was so happy to join in on all the Vivian gushing when the TTYD remake came out, aside from already loving Vivian as a character anyway? Because I was starting to forget what it was like to actually be on the same wavelength as the majority of a fandom on anything. That's how monumentally unlucky I am with my Sonic preferences.

The characters who are super popular tend to be the ones I'm either indifferent to or straight up dislike, while the ones I vibe towards tend to be largely ignored (Ariem) or criticised for *checks notes* not being reptilian enough (Trip). The most recent games (and comic) that prove We Are So Back are the ones I can't stand, while the ones that actually had my investment are either ignored or placed alongside Colours and Forces as the new Worst Sonic Game of All Time for the heinous crime of having some flaws, by people who unironically white knight '06. There's also the neverending fandom push for Sonamy and all the attention it receives, whereas I remain unconvinced by its alleged chemistry more than ever. And of course, you can compare how I see Eggman VS how the rest of the fandom sees him.

Which Sonic characters would you say are the hottest preds?

Tails is always sort of my default when it comes to preds among the Sonic cast, for a lot of reasons. Personal bias for one. Foxy bias. That also means he's a species that is much higher up on the food chain than basically everyone else in the cast aside from Vector. So he always feels very naturally befitting for that role, to me.

But honestly I can imagine effectively every single member of the Sonic cast as either pred or prey, given the scenario. I could even imagine a scenario with Charmy Bee guzzling down the preys lol. They could all eat or be eaten by one another, in my mind. Though I do tend to prefer imagining that it's a different universe or setting depending on who's filling what role, since I'm personally not very inclined to free vore all everybody can eat or be eaten by anybody type settings.

In terms of characters that I think lend to being preds the best in terms of personality, I'd say Eggman is probably the top since he's already got so many canonical quotes which you can easily slap over a vore pic and it would fit that context without needing to change a single word. I mean, they'd have to be fatal vore pics, which I personally do not enjoy, but I mean still come on.

Oh a pretty common scenario I tend to go back to is Knuckles as the guardian swallowing up folks who arrive on Angel Island. Like an alternate version of Sonic 3 where when Sonic andor Tails show up, Knuckles the pent up tribal island stud just seduces and swallows the interloping boy(s) right up, patting his bulging ab toned belly and belching as he sauntering back to the shrine gut sloshing with every step<3

Rouge I think would also be inclined to being pred, maybe swallowing up security guards when she's sneaking into a place. Or gulping folks down for the sake of holding them for ransom. Or just being a general vamp and teasing or taunting folks she's trying to sweet talk with mawshots and stuff like that. Imagine this whole scene but Rouge is licking her lips and patting her growling belly while talking to Tails. She's got the chops for it, I think.

Vector and Big as well feel like natural preds, given their body types. I guess I don't personally tend to think of them in the front of my mind very often, they're not incredibly high on my list of characters that hook my interest. But given their size and species and with the right scenario their personalities can be very inclined for eating folks up too. Vector maybe swallowing up a client who welshes him on a job payment for example. And maybe Big having a dry spell when it comes to fishing so he swallows someone up to keep him fueled for the long hours of sitting by the lake, maybe falling asleep at some point and forgetting they're in there even after he does start catching fish, so they end up spending more than a few days churning in Big's belly along with some fried salmon piling in ontop of them.

Those are the ones that come to the top of my head when trying to think of which ones out of the cast seem to fit the best as natural preds in terms of personality. But like I said I can imagine every member of the cast as a pred lol. Sonic swallowing someone up while out on a morning job. Silver using his telekinesis to lift someone up and dunk them down his throat. Blaze having snackrifices brought to her to be a royal meal while she's doing paperwork at her desk. Ect.
