The Ty Sisters Situation

I find Ty Lee's sibling situation kind of frustrating. For multiple reasons.

I find her sister's designs, both in appearance and personality, incredibly boring and basic. And they're just outright lazy.

I mean their whole thing is that they're seven identical sisters who all want to be as different and distinct as possible...

But they all wear their hair the same, and wear the same outfit just in different colors, and primarily differentiate themselves by a single specific Thing that they do that the other sisters don't.

And they're all pissed at Ty Lee because she decided to claim acrobatics as her Thing, when they all did and enjoyed acrobatics.

Except all of them doing acrobatics doesn't even make any sense because they're a bunch of fire nation noble ladies.

It made since that Ty Lee was an acrobat in spite of her being a Fire Nation noble, because she ran away and joined the circus.

Like I could accept it if all of the Ty sisters knew Chi blocking, and Ty Lee claimed it as her Thing, and the other girls were upset about that.

That's something Ty Lee 100% learned in the Fire Nation. The country is at war, lots of people both men and women get trained in combat. So it'd make sense for the other Ty sisters to also be taught it.

Why would Ty Lee claim acrobatics as her Thing if it's something all of her sisters also know how to do? Why would all seven of a set of daughters of a noble house know acrobatics in the first place?

Her whole thing is craving individuality due to being born part of a matching set.

Expanding on that. Why do all of her sisters have her exact same hair style?

Like down to their bangs curling identically and having a part on the same side.

Haircut/hairstyle and outfit is like the easiest way to differentiate characters (and real people) who're supposed to be identical siblings.

How is it all seven girls have the exact same hair style, and one of them has been completely separated from the rest for at least a year by the time they see each other again?

Not a single one of them have hair that's longer or shorter than Ty Lee's, or bangs that are shorter than Ty Lee's, or with no bangs at all. Or hair in a low braid instead of a high braid, or with bangs parting on the right instead of the left, or hair in two braids, or in a bun, or any other potential hair style.

Nothing. All completely identical hair styles, even if it's totally illogical, and antithetical to Ty Lee's character drive.

I wouldn't even care as much if they had the same hairstyle, if it wasn't the same hairstyle as Ty Lee's.

Then they're all wearing what are recolors of the same outfit, and two different sets of sisters are wearing basically the same color:

Ty Lin and Ty Lao are both in shades of light blue, Ty Lat and Ty Woo are both in shades of light orange/yellow.

Not a single one wears make up, not a single one has dyed their hair (natural dyes do exist, henna dye for example), not a single one has any kind of piercing, there's no unique accessory of any kind for any of them.

This is dumb writing and it's just bad character design, and sometimes the fact that these comics are canon fill me with rage.

Someone should redesign the Ty Sisters, and actually make them individuals instead of Ty Lee clones.

Also Ty Woo should totally have a tattoo, even if it's just something small like an anklet style tattoo.

to all the trans guys out there who want to bind but can't, whether it be because of sensory issues or breathing problems or any other reason:

you're not any less of a man for it. it doesn't mean you're okay with them or want to have them there, and if people try to imply that you are because you don't bind, then they're in the wrong for that and you have my permission to not listen to a word out of their mouth. there are people out there who'll believe you about your experience even if you can't do the "typical trans guy things" like binding. i hope that one day you'll be able to access top surgery, if that's a possibility for you <3

Introducing (some of) Darkwick's Tabletop Club

I really wanted to take a stab at making some gen admission students to be in a tabletop club at Darkwick and these three crawled out of my brain. I have a hc that Kaito is also in the club (he's super into it but also way ashamed of it) but I didn't include him because I was lazy TT-TT I do want to draw all of them playing a game together someday though!

Anyways here's way more information on them than I need to share:

All three of them are super into ttrpgs, but also dabble in LARP. Hana is usually the one who likes running games, but they do swap turns with Nakamura being a close second frequent DM.

Very unlikely friends given house rivalries and their own personalities, but somehow it works well?

Actually the house choices are funny because originally I was going to make Hana a Mortkranken student because she's studious. But then I was like "haha wouldn't it be funny if she was actually a mechanical engineer in Vagastrom" so I moved her. Also I don't think there are any women shown in Vagastrom in game??? Which sucks because I would love to see some. Also, the little writing and designs on her skirt are inspired by sukeban skirts!

Punzie is in Hotarubi because she's an aspiring tattoo artist. She's super dedicated to it actually, and she has a particular interest in pulling influence from traditional works for tattoos. The tattoos on her thighs were supposed to reference a specific kabuki play but they sort of devolved into doodles. She looks way more intimidating than she actually is. Her favorite class to play is Cleric.

Nakamura is in Sinostra. I don't have a particular reason- he's sort of cunning? He does well working as a dealer in the casino because he has a sort of baby face that seems to make people trust him (or the opposite- people swing one way or the other with nearly no in between). He's pretty self-interested when it comes to work, but he can be surprisingly supportive of those he's fond of. Kaito usually avoids going to Nakamura's tables like the plague, but on the rare instance they do end up in a game together Nakamura has enough mercy to slip him a couple small wins. He likes playing rogues and/or barbarians.

You know, I think what i fear most about all these soulless Disney remakes is that one day they'll take Hunchback of Notre Dame, one of the strongest and most daring Disney movies ever in its depiction of showing the dark sides of religion without demonizing faith as a whole, and that they'll take Judge Claude Frollo and either make him "sympathetic" or way less extreme than in the original, since Disney is nowhere near as ballsy to do something like directly criticize religious extremists anymore, I think, and that would just DESTROY the great impact that movie's messaging had.

That's not to say I have anything against sympathetic villains, but Frollo is one that was so strong BECAUSE of how awful he was and the position he held, and that fierce kind of villainy should NEVER be changed in his case imo. Very strong teaching moments in there for kids.

Do you all ever think that Book saw pencil and matches friendship and just saw toxic grabage(THAT ONE IDFB SCENE AS A EXAMPLE) and she couldn't belive Match would stay as Pencil's lap dog for so long. And she saw her in a way as pathetic (Match acting as if she has the same power as Pencil dose). But then she meets pillow and realises the shit toxic yuri dose to you. I ADORE the fact Book's character acitvley showcases how Freesmarts and the toxictiy within it affected her future relationships. From her whole Taco thing, to Pillow

Like do you think the reason she hasn't left pillow is because she isn't ready to admit she yet again feel into the hands of a horrible person, even if she herself didn't realise how horrible that person. She isn't ready to say she did the same mistake again, because it's not logical to repeat the same mistake(FROM HER POV)

I love the fact her part in freesmarts left a affect on her, she may act all "girlboss" in Bfb 1 leaving, but the way she see's her relationships and the role she takes in them is still so simallar. Mabye her taking the role of Pencil(Towards taco) and Match(Towards Book) is some poetic irony(most likley not done on purpose but still). Mabye the reason she keeps linger on is because she isn't ready to say she did the same exact mistake as she did all those years ago by joining freesmarts, mabye she isn't ready to say she's more simallar to Match then she wants to be. She thinks she's rational and would standup for herself but she dosen't. She's not ready to admit she's just a more snarky Lap dog.

Mabye her next role will be Bubble and mabye finally she'll break out and end the cycle
