Little Kazansky -stories
Request by @julessworldd: Hey Darling! Idk if you accept cannon ideas but I have a few and you’re my only top gun mutual I talk to 🩵 it’s a mix of icemav and lil Kazansky :)) -> Requests are open!
Hi! Here it is! Hopefully you like it, I wrote little stories for each of your ideas :)) (loved them by the way!)
Top Gun Taglist: @bisexual-watermelons (open)
Main Taglist: @avada-kedavra-bitch-187, @nyx2021, @thestarspangledcaptain, @kmc1989 (open for every fandom)
Lil kazansky is extremely close to Tom, she considers him a best friend in some ways. But she loves Mav very much, she gives him a ‘What the hell was that for’ look 80% of the time. Especially when he does something that acquires Ice digging him out.
Ice and his daughter had always been close, since she was a little baby snuggling inside of his arms or when she would hold on to his finger when she slept. He was scared, a whole lot, that it would change when she would grow up, thinking that she didn’t need her father anymore. But his daughter proved to be much more like him then he ever thought and proved him wrong. She continued to come to him, for cuddles in the early morning after a scary dream, for a gossip session that Mav always tried to listen to outside of his office or just to spend some time together.
She was all of him but in the best way he could’ve ever imagined. The thing that warmed his heart the most was her bond with Mav, the way she immediately decided that he was also going to be her father, no question asked. She had picked up a few traits from the danger himself, but she always seemed to go back to her ‘little Kazansky’ ways. The first time she had everyone laughing their asses off was when Maverick was telling them about what happened with the brass that day and how he hadn’t listened to them telling him he couldn’t do a fly by.
“But I still did it.”, you can hear Maverick say on the tape, and Slider knowing his best friend and his usual ‘what the hell was that for’ expression got ready to film it.
Only to come across two identical faces doing it towards Mav, one thirty-three-year-old and the other one a three-year-old, looking both equally unimpressed at the story.
lil Kazansky has Tom’s smile, even his bitchy eye roll and his ‘bitch really’ face. (When Mav is telling Charlie about the mig. And before ice coughs bullshit)
When she grew up, she started having some more of his traits, Mav always said she had Ice’s smile even when Ice tried to deny it. But the one thing she had definitely gotten from Tom was the bitchy eye roll and his infamous bitch face that made the youngest recruits scared.
The lady at the daycare had tried to tell them in kind and simple words how she seemed to have a bitch face sometimes, but Ice and Maverick had thought it was nothing serious. That was until they had to take her to work and in lectures with them.
Maverick had been telling the class about his adventures and when he finally came to the mig one he already knew that Ice, in the back of the class would be rolling his eyes and looking at him with a bitch face that he still had after all of these years.
The one thing he hadn’t expected was for his daughter to be rolling her eyes and, unlike her father say a loud ‘bullshit’ through the room.
There had been a long silence between the whole room of Lieutenants trying not to laugh at the unimpressed four-year-old and a red-faced Ice. Until Ice broke it by letting out a big snort and starting to laugh so hard tears were streaming down his face. Maverick could only pout at the four-year-old who looked incredibly proud to have made her Pops laugh.
“Slider will love that. Good girl.”, he hears Ice say between his laughter and after a few minutes Maverick manages to start talking again, with Ice still shaking with laughter behind him.
- lil kaz wasn’t only a daddy’s girl, she was an uncle slider girl. She loved staying the night with him and his wife, she practically owned Slider. Making him play dress up, Barbies, watch her favorite childhood movies. 6’4 man being dragged by a 4’0 little girl 😂 Ice telling her to stop climbing on him to put lip gloss on him. And slider tells him to leave her alone, she’s a baby.
Don’t tell anyone, and certainly not Ice, but Slider had always been her favorite when she was five, it had probably been due to her small crush on her uncle Slider but that quickly went away as she realized he was married. Even when she was just a baby, she had her godfather wrapped around her little finger, asking him for ice cream after dinner even when she had heard her pops tell him that she shouldn’t have and receiving it with a large scoop of whipped cream.
She had dragged him around her playroom more often than not for hours at end, asking him to play dress up and making him play with her dolls. The number of times her godfather played catwalk with her Barbies with her was too many to count.
Maverick always seemed to find it hilarious and had convinced her to ask her godfather to wear a tiara and a boa to dinner one night and just like every time she had managed to convince him, dragging him through the hallway. The room had been silent for a minute at their arrival before Maverick started laughing so hard, he fell out of his chair, followed by the rest of the Flyboys except for your pops who seemed to try and keep his laughter out of sympathy for his WSO. But just a moment later your pops had helped you convince everyone to also wear a tiara and a boa.
“Here Mav, you can have the little tiara as you are smaller.”, you say with a ‘bitchy’ smile that at only five years old rivaled Ice’s smirk. Meanwhile Slider started laughing with Ice managing to hold his laughter for just a second until Maverick turned around with an unimpressed look, a tiara, and a boa on.
Her favorite memories had been with her godfather and the moment they sat down together to watch the Barbie movie, it felt like they were back in that playroom playing dress up and putting on lip-gloss.
- at first lil kaz was shy of baby roo, she hadn’t really interacted with kids her age. Bradley was a few years older and bigger, she hid behind ice’s leg the first time Mav brought him over. Mav had found her a stuffed penguin and had Bradley give to her. She still has that penguin at ices in a safe place.
She hadn’t always been close to Rooster; the older boy had scared her for a while due to being older than her. The first time she had met him she had clinged to her Pops legs and hid behind them as they were so long, as Maverick would say it ‘he had legs for days’.
Bradley had seemed shy at the beginning too, holding onto Carole’s hand and looking at her with big brown eyes. They had spent the afternoon not talking to each other, each clinging to their parent like it was their lifeline.
The day they started interacting was when he had given her a small pinguin, it was super fluffy, and she had looked at it for a long moment before her Pops softly pushed her forward.
“Go on.”, Ice softly whispered at his daughter, and she let go of his leg only to grab one of his fingers with her small hand, the other hand reaching for the pinguin.
“For you.”, Bradley says, a shy smile on his lips and his daughter looks at the pinguin with a doubtful gaze before taking it.
“Thank you.”, she whispers softly before looking at Ice with big blue eyes, looking reassured when she saw his reassuring smile.
“If you want, I have a lion and a tiger, we could play zoo?”, she says after a second and Bradley seems to beam at the words, a large smile appearing at the words.
“I have a monkey and an elephant!”, Bradley exclaims, and his daughter suddenly jumps excitedly.
“I have always wanted an elephant! Let’s go to the playroom.”, she says before dragging Bradley to the playroom.
“So, elephant to the list of gifts?”, Maverick teases and Ice sighs while shaking his head in amusement.
“And a monkey.”
That had been the beginning of a strong sibling relation between Bradley and you, the both of you always there for each other. The little pinguin was always in your bag during deployments, never losing his softness.
- lil Kaz definitely punched a kid for teasing her about having two dads. She got scolded by ice but Mav told her that night before bed. He was proud of her for being open minded and so protective of her parents.
It wasn’t fair, that you had to be in the principal office with Tommy sitting next to you, he had started it and you only had finished what he had started.
The only happiness you felt in that moment was when you looked at his bloody nose, being held by a pack of ice. You had gotten him well as the principal had said, but you had learned from the best, your uncle Slider.
“So sorry for my tardiness there was traffic.”, you hear and suddenly you feel scared, seeing your pops there, he had his ‘Ice’ mask on as Maverick would call it.
“No problem, why don’t you sit down, and I’ll explain the situation.”, her father sat down next to her, a quick worried look towards her before turning back to the principal.
The principal started recounting the story of how Tommy had been taunting her before she punched him in the nose.
“Do you know what Tommy said before?”, your father asks, and the principal looks uncomfortable for a moment.
“Well, you see-”, the man stutters at the words while your father looks unimpressed.
“He was teasing me about having two dads.”, you say and there is a long silence that follows your words.
“I think we listened to this long enough, what happens now?”, there is that unfamiliar coldness in your pops voice that you haven’t heard before, but it makes you shiver.
“She will be suspended tomorrow.”, the silence that follows is deafening before your father nods in agreement.
“And what about Tommy and what he said?”, the principal looks uncomfortable before clearing his throat.
“He will have detention through the week.”, your pops doesn’t looks pleased before nodding and ending the meeting, taking your hand in his.
There is a long silence in the car, as he looks thoughtful, not even starting the car.
“You can’t punch other children sweetheart.”, the words are hard, no response awaited from you, but you still answer.
“What he said was mean.”, you tell him, but your father shakes his head.
“Violence is never the answer, you hear me. You are letting them win by reacting.”, he says as he looks at you and you let out a frustrated sigh.
“We aren’t going to the zoo this weekend.”, this makes you look up in dismay, but your father seems decided.
“But-”
“There is no but, you punched a kid, so we aren’t going to the zoo. Hopefully that will make you think about the consequences of your actions.”, he says before turning back towards the wheel and starting the car. You feel tears burning on your eyes and you try to contain them but ultimately fail as you arrive back home, barely saying hello to Maverick.
“Little duck? Can I come in?”, you hear Mav say but he enters before you can answer.
“I probably shouldn’t say this, but I would’ve punched him too.”, the words bring a small smile on your lips.
“Your pops, he is just worried about you. He doesn’t want anything to happen to you so don’t be mad at him. We are both proud of you defending us, it was just the way you did it that scared him.”, you turn to look at him before going into his arms for a hug.
“We are proud of you sweetheart, for already being so open minded but it isn’t your job to defend us, alright?”, you nod in answer and hold him tighter.
“From what I’ve heard you punched him quite good.”, you can hear the smirk in his voice and can’t help but smile.
“That’s our girl.”, he whispers in your hair while holding you close.
she got taught by both of them on how to drive, ice would teach her and then Mav would too. Mav would come home from deployments and would want to see how she was doing. He would tell her speed up some where ice told her to watch her speed. They all went to the store once, they were telling two different things at the same time. She pulled over and made Bradley drive home. Home girl was not dealing with both of them anymore 😂
Learning to drive with your parents was always chaotic, your friends had nearly killed their parents when they did and it was no exception for you. As much as you loved both of your dads they were the most chaotic duo when put together in a car.
Maverick was coming back from deployment and as you saw his car at the frontdoor you couldn’t help but run inside, ignoring your pops comment about taking your shoes off and immidiatly bringing your dad in a hug.
“Missed you too little duck.”, Maverick says softly before you turn towards your pops who was smiling lovingly at the both of you.
“Your shoes missy.”, he says but you simply roll your eyes before bringing him into a hug too, enjoying the smell of cinnamon and cologne.
“We need to go to the store so no need to take them off pops.”, you tell him and he huffs before taking his shoes and joining Maverick and you in the car.
“Hey, wait for me!”, you hear Bradley yell before he gets into the passenger seat next to Maverick.
“Alright, lets do this.”, you say before starting the car, feeling a little nervous but your pops smiles at you reassuringly.
“You can go a bit faster here.”, Maverick says as you get into a larger street but your pops rolls his eyes.
“She is at the right limit, don’t hesitate to go a bit slower.”, you know by habit that Maverick is rolling his eyes in response.
“Now you can speed up.”
“No, she can’t.”
“Why not?”, Maverick asks, and your pops turns around to start bickering with his husband.
“Now you need to turn right.”
“No, left.”, your pops say, and you feel exhausted at the two of them bickering before pulling up on a parking spot and turning towards Bradley.
“You are riding.”, you tell him, and he groans in answer.
“Common, if you had given up just a minute sooner you would’ve broken my record time with the both of them in the car.”, he says before leaving the car and taking your place, ignoring the two pilots looking at you with open mouths.
“Sucks to be you Bradshaw.”, you tell him before settling down, ignoring both of your fathers while Bradley puts the music louder.
-Bradley is protective of her but lil Kaz don’t play about him. She has cussed Hangman out a couple of times or punched his bicep. Hangman has asked rooster has she always been this mean. Bradley told him yeah kinda.
Bradley and you had been close ever since the moment you turned five and had kept that bond through the years. Although you had both grown up, he still sax you as his little sister and he wanted to protect you from stupid boys and other things no matter how many times you told him it wasn’t necessary.
He had tried once when Hangman was playing dumb, but you had stopped him immediately, instead taking it over.
“So sweetheart, when are you letting me take you on a date?”, the blond pilot asks you.
“How about when my father turns straight?”, the blond pilot seems kind of lost at what to respond and you can see Phoenix trying not to laugh.
“That would be impossible darling.”
“Well then use what little of brain you have and figure out that it will never happen dickhead.”, you tell him with a sarcastic smile and the blond pilot huffs before a smile appears.
“Always fun to talk with you little Kazansky.”
“Wish I could say the same Bagman.”, you tell him before punching his arm and leaving the cocky pilot behind.
“Has she always been this mean and strong?”, Hangman asks Rooster while rubbing his arm.
“Oh yeah she once punched a kid when she was seven, the kid had to get his nose fixed.”, Rooster says with a smirk while Hangman looked paler than before.
“So be careful.”, Rooster says with a smirk before leaving to join his sister.
Lil kaz went to the navy balls and formals since she was little. That’s how she came well known with Cyclone and Warlock. She was 16-17 spilling tea with them about anything or anyone. Cyclone told her what the good whiskey is. Warlock taught her side eye and how to communicate by just looking at people.
The Navy Balls had always been a huge thing, your pops looking stressed when they were approaching. He had climbed the ranks throughout the years, and he felt like he needed to be perfect.
You had always enjoyed joining him, more than Maverick so now you were his official companion to all of them. It was a night were the two of you could spend some time together, enjoying the glamour of the ball before ending the night at the small dinner around the corner eating greasy burgers.
That was where you had gotten to know Cyclone and Warlock, who quickly became one of your favorite people, much to Maverick’s dismay. Cyclone had quickly liked you and had been teaching you how to recognize good alcohol, especially whiskey. While Warlock thought you how to read people and how to know what they were thinking just by their body language.
“I have heard that Cain’s wife is filling for divorce.”, you tell them while looking over your shoulder to make sure your pops wasn’t there anymore.
“Was about time, poor woman had to stay with that man.”, Cyclone says and Warlock snorts.
“Apparently she had an affair with a Lieutenant.”, this makes you drop your mouth in shock.
“I mean good for her.”, you say while Cyclone snorts. He offers you his glass of whiskey and you take a small sip from it after making sure no one was watching.
“1999?”, you ask him, and a proud smile appears.
“Correct.”, you smile widely at his answer before taking back your orange juice and looking around.
“Am I the only one thinking that Admiral Abrams is looking kind off annoyed to be here?”, you ask them and Warlock laughs.
“You aren’t the others don’t see it but he is. Apparently, he thought he was going to get the Vice-Admiral position your father got.”, that makes you snort in answer.
“Please, he could never be as good as my pops.”, you tell them, and they nod in agreement.
“Rumors are that they want to promote him to Commander of the Pacific Fleet.”, this makes you look at Cyclone with wide eyes, this could be huge.
“Really? Does he know?”, you ask him, and Cyclone seems to think for a moment before nodding slowly.
“The President has asked him to come by his office this week so that probably means he will get it.”, you don’t know how to feel at the news, you knew that your pops would be successful, but he hadn’t told you about that.
“So, Commander of the Pacific Fleet, huh?”, you ask him later as he gets ready to take a bite of his burger, but he puts it back on his plate after a moment.
“Cyclone?”, he asks softly, and you nod slowly.
“I didn’t want to jinx it, plus I wasn’t sure that they were really considering me until last week. I was going to tell you after the meeting with the President.”, you nod in response, looking at your fries, feeling lost.
“What is going through your mind?”, he asks after a moment.
“Just feeling proud of you and how far you have gotten. But I am worried that you work too many pops.”, you tell him quietly and he smiles lovingly at you.
“don’t worry about me, I have Mav dragging me out of my office to make sure I get food and some time away from work.”, this makes you smile as you look at him with the same blue eyes.
“So, more balls then?”, you ask, feeling excited at the prospect and he laughs.
“More balls, where you can pretend, I don’t see you gossiping and trying out whiskey.”, he says with a smirk, and you glare in response feeling a blush come up.
-She asked Mav once why does he get in trouble so much to where Ice has to save him. She is low key kinda scared to mess up because whose kid she is and he’s probably digging her papa out of a fire
“How come you get into so much trouble.”, she asks her dad once, he is busy tinkering on his motorcycle, but he stops at her words.
“What do you mean?”, he asks before putting down his things and sitting next to her.
“You always seem to get into trouble in the Navy and pops saves you. Why?”, there is a silence after your words, making you feel nervous.
“Well, I always liked to push the boundaries, try new things but the Navy doesn’t really like that. So, I often get into trouble, sometimes because I cause it with a flyby but sometimes because I just wanted to try something new that could improve the Navy.”, he tells you and you nod in agreement.
“How come pops saves you all the time?”, you ask him and Maverick sighs for a moment a sweet smile appearing.
“Because we are wingmen and he seems to think that I’m the best pilot in the Navy and that I still have my place even when the whole Navy is against me.”, he tells you and you can’t help but smile at his words.
“I’m scared to mess up. Pops was so great that there is an expectation that I’m scared not to reach.”, you tell him quietly, for once telling him what you were really telling him directly.
“Oh, little duck, you should never feel pressure to perform. Your pops is so proud of you, no matter what you do. And as to the Navy, you shouldn’t care what they think, don’t let their opinion define you, you hear me?”, you nod slowly, still feeling unsure.
“You think pops would help me out if I had an issue?”, you ask him softly and Maverick snorts at your words, making you look up.
“Please, your pops would raise hellfire if anything happened to you. Never hesitate to ask him for help, he would do anything for you.”, his words make you smile before he brings you into a hug.
“I miss pops.”, you tell him and your dad sighs in response.
“Me too little duck, but only two more days and then he will be back from Washington.”, the two of you stay there, holding each other until Bradley barges in asking when the food will be ready.

A/N: Welcome to Your highnes's epilogue, I hope you like it. It's going to be short.
T/W: Grishaverse spoilers.
Your highness (Epilogue)
"Please, I don't want to know. It was enough trauma for me when, at the riot, he listed all the places he'd done it with Zoya."
"But it worked, we managed to save ourselves."
Matthias sighed, and Zoya followed him. The two couldn't avoid the look between disgust and surprise.
"Nazyalensky..."
"Helvar..."
Their hate, during those years, hadn't disappeared. Although it had been reduced; they no longer wanted to kill each other for he being a drüskelle and she a grisha, but only for being themselves. It would be strange if the fjerdan, after marrying a grisha as powerful as Nina and having with her a daughter as blond as himself, continued to hate those the fjerdans called drüsje. Sometimes with Zoya Nazyalensky he was tempted; but just that.
"We've had a great number of meetings without you going down to each other's throats, let's keep it like that." Nina commented, trying to lead the conversation back to less swampy grounds and taking the cup of tea in her hands carefully. "The Wandering Isle is very good."
"People are too happy."
"Matthias upset?" Zoya asked, with a clear smile on her face. "Even I would move there just to annoy him more."
"How about life as Sturmhond and Zyoma?" Genya asked, trying to help Nina in her attempt so that they wouldn't have to be separated this year.
"That..." Matthias commented with a tone of voice that was too strange for him. "How is the life of pirates?"
"Privateers." Zoya and Nikolai said at the same time, unable to avoid directing a frazzled look at him.
"What is the difference?'
"We have a license."
"Our license." Alina and Mal added at the same time, smiling as they looked at each other.
"If I have to see these two cuddling again... I'll throw them into the air." Genya rolled her eyes, in an overly theatrical copy of the blue-eyed girl's actions. "What?"
"They only have one child, Dubrov. But you have the twins; Dominik and Isaak, Liliyana and, besides, you are expecting another." Zoya brushed her hand over her belly, and Nikolai fixed his gaze on it with a smile. "I don't know who's cuddling up the most."
"Genya!" Zoya said, staring at her.
"I'm just saying facts."
"Clearly us." They all turned their heads towards Nina, who had set her cup down on the table. "Even if we only have Roëd..."
"Nina!" Now Matthias was the one looking at someone; at the heartrender
"I'm just saying facts." She answered him with a smile that the fjerdan avoided with his eyes.
"How is the life of king and queen?" Helvar asked Alina and Mal, clearly wanting to talk about anything as long as Nina didn't keep opening her mouth.
And they were going to answer him, but the flutter of a crow distracted them. The bird landed gently on the table to Zoya's right, and she watched that it had a note tied to one leg. "What?" She carefully reached it out, taking the piece of paper from the animal to open it up and begin to read it aloud. " 'Wylan and Jesper are very happy with the goat. Inej continues to hunt slavers on her own ship, and now accepts the rewards. Me? I won't be alone now. Ketterdam is not just a city, but a lot of people. Watch your little ones when they go to play. My revenge has begun Zoya Nazyalensky, now I will educate your children, and while the others too, to be the best criminals. Think twice before; eight years ago, eight months, two weeks and three days, make me jump into a boat with your Little Science. Signed: Kaz Brekker, founder of the future ruling gang of The Barrel.' " The squaller crumpled the paper in her hands and threw it furiously to the ground. Damn Dirty Hands. "Breeker!"

gib me kid meme for kaz & mel please lov u k thx bai
send me a pair name and I’ll tell you what I think it would be like if they had a child . accepting
Name: Olivia Hope Drysdell-Miller (Kazuhira insisted that Melissa's name was included; he didn't want to be the only parental reference on Olivia's documents). Gender: Female. General appearance: Much to Kazuhira's delight, she looks like a younger version of Melissa - fair skin, the same honey color of the eyes, full hair (here is where one might notice that Kazuhira's dirty blonde and Melissa's dark chestnut colors mixed, since Olivia's hair is a lighter shade of brown that pairs in a lovely way with her eyes). She grows to be of average height (just a little taller than her mother), not overly curvaceous or owning a voluptuous figure but staying rather on the slender side like a ballerina. Personality: Sweet, innocent and really befitting of her names associated to peace and hope for better, brighter years. Kazuhira did his best to shield Olivia from his own anger and hatred; having a daughter somehow worked beautifully to have him get in touch with his softest side, and the protective and caring nature of his youthful years clearly left a lasting impact in Olivia. She also shows a lot of the nurturing and cheerful disposition of her mother, making her incredibly gentle and compassionate. There is never anyone in the room who doesn't want to hug the girl - she is really too precious. Special talents: A very good listener and supportive individual for as long as both her parents can remember; in a direct opposition to many kids who are often able to talk non-stop, Olivia was always very happy to lend an ear and to counsel others, from her dolls who faced imaginary problems to her own friends and even Kazuhira and Melissa (if she sensed they were struggling with something). Her selfless nature is a weakness that can be exploited, what concerns the former soldier - but he's more focused on protecting her from external threats than forcing her to change. The world needs good people - Kazuhira is honored he was given the chance to contribute to that goal despite everything; it feels like he has been given a second chance by karma. Who they like better: Both! Olivia feels very lucky in relation to her parents - some of her friends have crappy families, but she is just delighted to have been born to a such a loving couple. The way her mother and dad found one another and overcame obstacles by being each other's source of strength (even if it came in the form of a rather forceful push sometimes) fascinates Olivia, and she makes no secret of the fact she wishes to find someone just as nice for herself one day. Who they take after more: Melissa - she is physically and emotionally a small clone of her mother, being very open about her affections, assisting others through their endeavors and finding meaning in not only holding someone close but to do acts of service for them as well. They share many hobbies and similar approaches (with Olivia having inherited Melissa's famous 'hand on the hips' gesture which means that Kazuhira is in trouble when she pulls that one) and if the two ladies of his life join efforts... He is absolutely doomed. He means this fondly, of course. Personal Headcanon: Olivia really likes birds - watching them, hearing them sing, feeding the little ones who come to her. It is an adorable hobby and one that makes the frequent Disney princess allusions even stronger, but the girl really is dedicated to them and has always asked to be gifted with themed books or to be taken on strolls where she could try and spot them. Olivia is very against holding them captive in cages - but she likes to offer fresh fruit and water at their home garden to see them voluntarily come for the food and keep her company. Faceclaim: Nicole Gale Anderson.
#mencnfire#v: Nightingale#if they had a kid#replied#I kept this to our original AU#but I imagine it could be adapted to the other#in any case#congrats - it's a Disney princess!

Easy target {Kaz Brekker x reader}
Summary: The crows plan to rob a Barrel Boss and approach him over his daughter. Kaz starts to feel something towards her.
Warnings: Mentions of death through a gun.
Requested by @mindofasupernova <3
She was a simple task. Nothing more, nothing less. When Y/n first walked into the Crow Club, she got drunk and told everybody who her father was. That's when the plan was made. It only needed one exchanged look between Kaz and the Crows for them to know, that Kaz planned a heist.
Y/n was surprisingly carefree, especially given to the fact that the Dregs surely weren't the only ones that had found interest in her.
She giggled, talked, drank and repeated the circle all the time. The plan was simple.
Gain her trust, make her fall for someone, get close. Make her believe the Dregs meant safety.
Now the question was, who she should fall for.
First joice was between Jesper and Nina, depending on her preference. But Jesper backed out quickly after Wylan showed his disapproval. He would've accepted it, but Kaz didn't want to be the reason of a crisis in their relationship, even though he wouldn't want to admit it. Matthias didn't want to do it.
He said it even before he was considered. Nina agreed, not because she was jealous, but because she knew Matthias would suck at approaching the girl.
Now, the issue was that they were running out of males. Kaz wanted a Crow for the job. So last but not least, they decided that Kaz would do it.
On the first evening they started the plan, Nina and Kaz both approached Y/n. She was openly joking with Nina, when Kaz asked if she wanted a drink. She agreed, excusing herself to Nina. The grin she had on her lips and the soft blush made clear that she was interested in Kaz. So he did buy her a drink, letting slip that the place was his. It was an awkward interaction at first, because Kaz struggled with things like this. He kept his distance, to keep himself safe. But Y/n did most of the talking.
She was actually a nice girl, but Kaz wouldn't admit that. She didn't seem to be spoiled either. She liked rum and pancakes. She also liked to take walks in the rain. She preferred the rain over the sun. Dirtyhands liked her.
They met seven times before he started admitting it to himself. She also integrated greatly into the Dregs. Nina and her went out for waffles and she sucked even more at gambling than Jesper, so he could finally win against someone. Y/n actually wasn't helpless either. She always had a punchline when she joked with the Dregs and one time, when Inej showed her how to throw a knife, she told them about her talent in shooting. Two days later she won in it against Jesper.
She started trusting the Dregs much sooner than Kaz had thought.
She now needed to fall or him too. Love made girls blind, that would be the last straw to get what they were looking for.
It was Friday, a few hours before Y/n would visit him, when Specht knocked on the door of Kaz' office. It was odd, since Specht almost never did. He looked a bit nervous, tapping from one feet to another, taking his time to talk. He only started when Kaz began to tap on the table.
"I don't think we should go on with the plan."
He finally said, looking Kaz in the eyes. The Bastard of the Barrel raised his eyebrows.
"Excuse me?"
"Y/n is a nice girl, she tries her best to get to know everyone and to fit in. She doesn't deserve to be used like this." Specht leaned onto the table, Kaz looked at him for a brief moment before he sighed.
"You're supposed to follow the commands, not question them." Specht stood up straight again.
"But-" "Get out." Dirtyhands finally snapped at him, without giving him any attention.
But Kaz considered it, for a brief moment. That it was unfair. That Y/n didn't deserve it.
But that's not how things worked for them.
Specht was the first one. Rotty and all of the Crows, one by one, followed.
When Y/n came over that day, Kaz was already putting on his coat. "So, where are you taking me?" Dirtyhands asked. The young woman grinned. "My favourite place in all of Ketterdam."
Against Kaz' believes, her favourite place wasn't fancy or expensive. Her favourite place were the docks, including a tiny pancake stand.
Kaz paid, even though she insisted that she could do it.
It was a really calm moment, the first one they shared. She didn't giggle and talk, she just simply sat on the bench next to him and ate her pancakes. She surprisingly sensed that Kaz didn't like to be touched and she respected his boundaries. It was a pure moment and not awkward at all.
"It's my mommy's favourite place."
Mommy. Kaz held back a scoff.
"I came here everyday since she died."
Oh. What was he supposed to say about that?
Kaz opened his mouth but closed it again. He never talked about the people he lost. But she started, so maybe he...
"You know that you don't need to ignore it."
Y/n suddenly chuckled softly.
So Kaz opened his mouth again.
"When? How?"
"Five months ago, before I started coming to the Crow Club. I needed to get out from home. Dad stopped talking to me. He's devastated, still. It's weird. He's that though guy on the outside, but he wouldn't only have died but also killed for mommy. She was shot."
Shot? Well, all Barrel like. Money couldn't save you from everything after all.
"I'm sorry." He finally said, even before he processed the meaning of his words.
"Don't be. We all make our sacrifices. We all lost someone. We all will loose someone. But we also find knew people, that's why I'm glad I came into the Crow Club."
You won't be much longer, Kaz thought.
So when the day of the heist arrived, Kaz decided to back out. It wasn't fair. Her father had money, he was a Barrel Boss, but he only did his job. It was a sudden decision, it wasn't planned. He just saw the red dot and his calendar and walked down the stairs in a rush, forgetting his cane and almost tripping, to tell the Dregs. They looked surprised, all of them, including his Crows.
"The heist is called off." He exclaimed loudly, looking towards a clearly proud Specht.
"We leave Y/n's family alone. We won't mention this to her and y'all will still treat her the same." "What heist?" Y/n's soft voice from the door suddenly called. The spines inside her head clearly began to turn. "You meant to rob my father." She then realised. Nina was the first to stand up and walk towards her, trying to grab her arms softly. Y/n immediately moved a step back. "What did I even expect." She said, as Jesper tried to walk up to her too. Then she left the Slat.
Kaz muttered some curses under his breath.
It was almost midnight when Kaz came back into his room. He walked to the docks. He thought she would be there. He hoped.
She wasn't.
But when he turned the light switch on, she sat leaning against his bed. She didn't look up, hugging her legs tightly.
"Why would you do that?" She asked genuinely. Kaz sighed.
"Because you were there. Because you seemed like an easy target, willing to spill information. Because it's my job." She scoffed, for the first time since they had met.
"I know it is. My dad teached me how to kill guys when I was nine. Because it's his job. But it still hurts, you know? I've trusted you."
"I called it off." Kaz meant it as an apology. She knew, but she wouldn't accept it like that. Y/n didn't say a word. Kaz sat down beside her.
"I wanted to get through with it. I always do it. I didn't know you, you only were a target for me. It's not that I planned to fall for you. But don't blame the Crows, they wanted to talk me out of the plan weeks ago." She finally looked at him, with big eyes. "What?"
"I said to not bla-" She shook her head. "No, no. You said you fell for me!" Kaz raised his eyebrows in surprise. "No." He simply said.
"I didn't."
"Kaz Brekker, if you meant what you said don't be a coward now. Because I fell for you too."
And suddenly they both faced their greatest fear. The fear of letting people in and the fear of falling for a man like her dad. But it wasn't a plan. It couldn't be planned.

I LOVE YOUR WRITING SM AND I DONT THINK ANYONE WOULD BE ABLE TO DO THE JOB BETTER. SOOOOO…..
Can you please do either a fic or head cannon (the bullet point ones) where the reader is kaz and inejs daughter and she comes out to the crows. She can do her parents first or all the crows together or all the couples separate like that’s completely up to you!
Thank you -🐚
hello honey!!!!! thank u so fucking much i appreciate you 🥺 heres a quick list of my thoughts on this,, it’s my first time writing the reader as not a romantic partner ??? so bare w me
coming out is scary and i want to remind u all that there’s no timeline for coming out, i love all of you so much <3
the crows are basically their own tiny little lgbtq+ community
and saints, would they be supportive of you
there was never a fear that you wouldn’t be lover for cared for by your parents and aunts and uncles
nonetheless, coming out is scary regardless
it takes a lot of vulnerability to do so, and you know, your parents being two of the deadliest gang members in all of ketterdam
heart to heart talks weren’t exactly what you would call, casual
but you wanted them to know, kaz and inej were your parents after all
so you sat them down in your family room one day
“i have something to tell you two”
kaz leaning on his cane, observing you intently
inej would have her hands clasped in front of her and wear a comforting smile because she could tell that you were nervous
and then you’d stutter and ramble and finally get the words out
and kaz would just out a sight of relief
“saints, sweetheart. i thought you were going to tell us something bad.” he’d try his best to give you a smile.
inej would roll her eyes and grab your hands in that mom way of hers
“what your dad means is, we love you regardless. thank you for telling us, we know that couldn’t have been easy”
and kaz would nod his head along at his wife’s words
and the next day he’d wear a little pin on his coat
a little rainbow pin to be more exact
and your heart would burst inside your chest
because your dad wasn’t the type of person to show their love through words, rather through actions
coming out to your uncle jesper and uncle wylan was a little less nerve racking and a little more fun
since you were little your uncles had made it clear you’d be accepted in their house no matter what
one time uncle jesper had told you that if you ever needed help hiding a body and/or coming out, he’d be there for you
they weren’t all that surprised when you talked with them
wylan just shrugged and gave you a quick hug
but that was uncle wylan for you
jesper only grinned like a giant idiot and squeezed the life out of you
he promised to take you to pride parades
wylan told you that if you ever needed to talk he was there to listen
you couldn’t tell your aunt nina for a while
she’d been in ravka for a long time
but when she came to visit with your uncle matthias you were jumping in anticipation
she was so excited of course
she wanted all the gossip of course
the whole story
she’d ask matthias to make waffles for the two of you
and matthias would add the food coloring into the whipped cream the colors of your flag
growing up around a gang had its odd moments
but coming out to your slightly dysfunctional family definitely wasn’t one of them

At last, here she is...best girl Olivia!
As usual, all of her info is under the cut c:
Olivia
Age: 18
Hair color: White (with pink/purple streaks)
Eye color: Green
Element: Fire
After a lot of debating I decided that Olivia is actually Jasper and Mouna’s daughter--if you don’t know them they’re two older OCs that I’ve had for a while! (I figured I might as well give her parents already existing within the ATS-verse anyway, and I planned on Jasper and Mouna getting together and having a child somewhere down the line so it fits.)
When she was born, Olivia was very weak, and most healers feared that she would not make it—similar to how weak and frail Jasper was when he was born. Because of this, Jasper and Mouna are both fiercely overprotective of her (Jasper more intensely) so she was sort of suffocated by their attention. She grew up within the Spinelrose Guild and was treated more delicately by the rest of the guild members, especially because of how slow her development was and how often she was ill as a child. She originally had a difficult time making friends because Jasper was so afraid she’d get into trouble and get hurt, and the other kids didn’t want to accidentally put her in danger. Olivia was pretty isolated from her peers as a kid, and that frustrated her, because she didn’t want to be treated differently from everybody else just because of her fragility. Unfortunately she was never really strong enough to make her point, and just ended up being coddled by the guild as a result.
As she developed into a teenager, Olivia eventually outgrew her sickly physique and started to become stronger, both mentally and physically. She started to speak up about her parents’ treatment of her more—she knows that they just want to keep her safe, but she feels smothered by their hovering tendencies. Mouna eventually realizes how important this is to her and starts to back off, realizing how strong her daughter has become. Jasper, however...it’s harder for him to let go lol because she’s his only child and he knows how difficult it was to grow up as the weak link, the one who got ostracized because of their general health and well-being. It doesn’t help that Olivia is very clumsy and gets into little accidents all the time, which just makes his stress skyrocket.
Even worse, Olivia is a fire elemental, which is considered to be one of the most dangerous simply because of how destructive it is without proper control. When Olivia was a kid Jasper forbade her from practicing any of her magic, too worried that she’d end up hurting herself. Of course, Olivia has a bit of a rebellious streak, so she tried it once by herself and inevitably ended up burning the side of her face with her magic. (By now the scar is almost faded, but you can still see it.) Both of her parents flipped their lids, and Olivia was so terrified that she decided to never use her magic again, viewing it as a curse. Mouna tries to tell her that her magic is a blessing, something that encompasses life, and that she just wasn’t ready to use it so freely without any training. But Olivia is insistent—scarred both in the literal and metaphorical sense, she refuses to use her magic, scared that she’s going to hurt herself again, or worse, somebody else.
As the years pass Olivia starts to feel more and more unsatisfied with her current life—she likes the guild, likes her friends and her family, but she feels as if there’s more she could be doing with her life. Since she’s refrained from using her magic all these years, and because of how much of a klutz she is normally, she’s not really a strong fighter, and is pretty useless on guild missions. Seeing the rest of her guildmates put their all into what they do, and being able to succeed in it, drives her to eventually seek escape and try to start off with a clean slate. When she turns 14, Olivia decides that she’s going to leave the guild and travel to someplace new in an attempt to be more independent and maybe find a purpose for herself.
Of course she realizes that if she tells her parents this they’ll probably refuse her, so she corners her uncle Terrence instead. Seeing her drive, Terrence decides he’s going to escort her to make sure she arrives safely. Olivia initially refuses because this is something she wants to do on her own, but Terrence warns her that the world is a dangerous place, and since she doesn’t know how to fight or use her magic the trip would be near suicidal if she went on her own. Terrence tells her the best option is going to stay with Spinelrose’s sister guild, Amethystus, and receive proper training in order to hone her magic and her fighting skills. That way she’d still have a direct line with Spinelrose in case something goes wrong, but she’d be far enough away to be independent.
Olivia prepares to sneak out in the middle of the night, but she gets caught by both Jasper and Mouna (because Terrence is a good uncle and he told them lmao). Fearing that they’re going to stop her, Olivia stands up for herself and makes it clear that this is something she needs to do. Much to her shock, Jasper and Mouna encourage her to follow her dreams and come home a new woman. It’s a very soft moment when they all hug each other goodbye, and there’s lots of tears :’) Olivia leaves home knowing that her parents are worried, but they’ll support her decisions because they love her.
After their crazy trip (where Olivia second guesses herself a million times and wonders if she can really survive out in a world this chaotic), they finally arrive at the Amethystus Guild! Olivia literally bumps into Ginni and from there, they form an instant close friendship. Ginni respects Olivia’s desire to be independent and is somewhat envious she made the decision to leave her guild in order to become stronger. Olivia admires Ginni’s confident personality and her fearlessness. Together they get into LOTS of trouble lol, mostly led by Ginni who is a notorious troublemaker within the guild, with Olivia just along for the ride.
During all this, Olivia meets the guild’s official blacksmith and, upon seeing the incredible things he can create by using fire magic, starts to rethink her opinions about her own “cursed” fire magic. The blacksmith, normally a very closed off, grumpy, and rude person, notices Olivia’s conflict about fire, and decides he’s going to train her in order to help her overcome her fear. Through a lot of practice and very intense sessions, Olivia is finally able to confront her trauma and move past it—leading to her discovery that she’s a talented natural at using elemental magic, finding that it comes very easy to her and is something she can control without thinking too much. This is a rare skill, for normally it takes an elemental years of practice and training to have perfect control over their magic. On top of that, her fire is very pretty and beautiful to look at, a reflection of her soul. Her master berates her from hiding something so beautiful and pure for so long lol
Olivia finds passion in blacksmithing, and trains under her master in order to create beautiful and powerful weapons. She does get burned a few more times during this, leading to some relapses, but her master tells her it’s part of the job and something that every elemental will come across: they aren’t always the perfect masters of their magic, and sometimes can hurt themselves without meaning to. But being able to understand what went wrong and how to fix it will make her stronger. Within a couple years Olivia flourishes and evolves into one of the guild’s most fiercest fighters, with an excellent handle on her abilities!
Olivia and Ginni grow up together in Amethystus, and are pretty much inseparable. When Ginni gets kidnapped by the Forces and is missing for several weeks, Olivia is beside herself with worry. After Ginni returns with Kaz in tow, Olivia is one of the first people to accept him and trust him fully, because she believes in Ginni more than anybody else. (Kaz develops a soft spot towards Olivia because of this, and is forever grateful for her support.) Over time Olivia starts to realize just how awful Kaz’s life at the Forces was, and grows very sympathetic towards his situation. She understands wanting to start over somewhere new with a clean slate, though Kaz’s circumstances are much worse than hers, because she still has a loving family and home to return to someday. Olivia becomes determined to make Amethystus a home like that for Kaz, as well as Hiro, who they discuss recruiting to their side from the Forces. As Kaz continues to reveal more of his past, as well as Hiro’s, Olivia and Ginni both get very gung ho about going to fetch Hiro LOL because they both want him to be safe (though Kaz assures them Hiro isn’t in any sort of danger, being the colonel, as well as too intelligent to put himself in trouble).
Kaz meets with Hiro, who was actually sent out on a mission to fetch him, and they negotiate Hiro acting as a double agent for Amethystus to spy on the Forces. Hiro had already been planning on leaving the Forces at some point, so he sees this as a perfect opportunity to get back at them for years of mistreatment. Over the course of the next several months, Hiro routinely reports back to Amethystus of the Forces’ plans, their current hideouts, and everything he knows about the higher ups. During all this he and Olivia meet, and at this point Olivia has started to refer to the colonel as ‘Hiro’ in her head, because it’s too confusing for her to call him the colonel, and she reasons that since Ginni gave Kaz his name she might as well give Hiro his. (Also because she believes that he’s a true ‘hero’ for enduring all of that suffering for so long, so it fits ;D) She calls him Hiro by sheer accident, but luckily he takes to the name well haha and they start to grow closer >:’) Hiro comments on how close Kaz and Ginni have become and the two start betting on when they’ll get together lol
Eventually Hiro’s position as a double agent is discovered by Mallary and so he finally breaks away from the Forces (and Mallary’s manipulation) and starts living permanently at the guild. Olivia’s pretty happy about this. She can’t explain why but she feels very safe and at ease around him, and she’s the person he’s the gentlest and softest around—unbeknownst to her, this is because he’s fallen in love with her, but she’s completely oblivious to his feelings. She’s pretty dense when it comes to romantic stuff like this whoops. Olivia finds Hiro’s intelligence incredible and likes that he’s such a skilled fighter despite not being that strong physically. Hiro likes watching her do her blacksmithing duties and always has expert things to say on her craftsmanship. They get along very well! Olivia’s never felt more at home than with Ginni, Kaz, and Hiro, and likes the tight knit little group they’ve formed. She becomes very fond and protective of them and, upon realizing how important they are to her and how much she’s changed because of them and because of her decision to join Amethystus, she decides to cut her hair as another sign of her growth as a person, and as a sign of change! She finally discovers what she wants to do: become a master blacksmith, and work alongside her friends to protect everything they can, including taking down the Forces to set free all of the people forced to work for them, and bring peace to the land.
When the time comes to finally take down the Forces, Olivia starts to develop feelings for Hiro as well, though it takes her a while to figure out because she’s never really been in love before, and mistakes a lot of her attraction for simple admiration. As Hiro continues to put his life on the line for their group and do anything he can to protect them, Olivia starts to discover that maybe she wouldn’t mind spending the rest of her life with him. There’s a point where Hiro gets injured so badly in battle he’s certainly going to bleed out, so he pleads for her to use her fire magic to cauterize his wound. Olivia’s trauma comes crashing back in and her worst fears are confirmed: her magic will end up hurting the people most important to her. Hiro tells her that by doing this, she’s going to save him, that her magic is life itself. Encouraged by his words, Olivia burns Hiro to save him, though it’s an extremely painful thing for her to do :’( But it’s at this moment she realizes that she definitely is in love with him, and would sacrifice anything for him.
Not long after that, Mallary attacks, enraged, and accuses Olivia of stealing everything important away from her. It’s a really emotional battle;; Mallary basically vents out about being the one left behind, the only one who couldn’t find a happy ending, and who had the only people she cared about taken. She says some really nasty things to Olivia about Hiro lol and this really makes Olivia mad, so they basically duke it out over Mallary’s twisted feelings for Kaz and her perceived ownership of Hiro. And Olivia’s just like. Bitch you don’t own him!! He’s not an object or a toy for you to play with!! Yeah. It’s nuts
After the grand battle with the Forces comes to an end and everything is resolved, Olivia decides to confess her feelings to Hiro, but it doesn’t...really go as planned. Hiro gently rejects her, but Olivia takes it the wrong way, still not realizing how head over heels for her he is. Shortly after this, Hiro and Kaz part ways with the guild, deciding to go on their own personal journeys of self discovery. During the year they’re gone, Olivia laments over her feelings for Hiro, miserable that she didn’t realize how she felt until it was too late, and miserable because she might never see him again. Eventually she tries to move on from that, but Ginni repeatedly tells her that Hiro is literally holding a torch for her lmao and that she shouldn’t let it go so quickly. Olivia protests constantly and strives to work harder to become a better blacksmith and stronger guild member, trying to put her feelings aside and ignore them.
Of course, when she and Ginni eventually reunite with Kaz and Hiro, Olivia realizes that shit I’m still in love with him and my feelings haven’t gone away, they’ve just grown stronger during the year we were apart;; luckily for her Hiro’s gone through a lot of self reflection and feels ready to be in a relationship with her, so, after a rocky road of awkward confessions and pouring out their feelings, they FINALLY get together.
The four of them go on a journey together! There’s some problems when Hiro runs into his childhood friend and first love, Lorelai, but in the end he shows he’s pretty damn dedicated to Olivia and it’s super soft. I just. I just love them so m u c h //shakes fists
AND THAT IS ALL FOLKS!! Most of it anyway lol
Extra personality traits:
-Very compassionate and caring about others—she’s a very motherly type. She’s able to get people to open up to her easily because of how friendly she is. She also settles disputes within the guild often, being the mediator between arguments
-A social butterfly. Probably the most social one out of the group, and the one most used to conversing with other people
-She’s got a lot of self-esteem issues because of her upbringing (and really, I promise Jasper is not a bad parent!! He’s just concerned), but she’s learned how to handle it better. She’s definitely way more confident than she was before!
-Tends to be very indecisive when it comes to big decisions, and is hesitant about fighting—though she will put her all into it if the stakes are high. She CAN whoop your ass
-Super passionate about blacksmithing! It’s her true calling, and something she throws herself into fully. She’s very artful with her work and makes gorgeous pieces, and tends to ramble on about the specifics even when nobody understands lol
-A bit oblivious and airheaded sometimes. She’s completely unaware of several of the guild members’ feelings for her, including Hiro’s.
-VERY affectionate. Because she was isolated from other kids as a child, she’s very touchy feely and loves expressing her affection through casual touches. And lots of hugs!
-Since she’s the sweetest and nicest person in the group, she is terrifying when she’s angry. She’s super protective of her friends and won’t hesitate to leap into action to keep them safe, often getting very fierce when she does so
-She hates being alone. Being raised in an atmosphere with so many people around, she isn’t used to being by herself, and her instant source of comfort is being near others
-Isn’t afraid to tease her friends or state her opinion when it really counts

Mizeloph's Tale Chapter 8
Pairing - It is still General Kirigan x OC Sun Summoner and will eventually shift to Kaz Brekker x Reader
Summary - First the little group from Ketterdam has to make it through the Fold before they can get to Eastern Ravka. As they travel through the Fold a past that Kaz does not like to talk about haunts his thoughts. A promise that he never intended on breaking brings more to Kaz than he cared to admit.
Word Count - 2550
-
“They want you to believe the Sun Summoner has been found to finally tear down the wall that divides us. But how many times have we been fed a story like that?! And how many times have we in the West been told to send our sons and daughters through the Fold for another year? It is time to accept that we need to break away from the old country! Now is the time to form our own country, to keep what we make and what we earn instead of sending it to the East! For the true Ravka!” Zlatan finished his speech and walked off towards the entrance of his tent where he shook hands with Arken who had an interesting proposition
Out in the open Kaz Brekker watched their exchange, he had not been too thrilled about this, but knew that they needed Arken to get them across the Fold. He would be able to come up with a plan to deal with Arken later. Kaz spotted Inej looking at the stones with names of people from the West who had gone through the Fold and died or never come back.
Inej noticed Kaz walk up to her with the tiny goat “he’s adorable”
“Don’t get too attached” he looked between her and the stones “I didn’t think I’d have to specify no detours for you”
“Even if just a few minutes could end a lifetime of questions?” Inej asked
Kaz sighed “I have looked at these stones for answers, when I couldn’t find her name these stones felt useless, just another reminder of an unknown”
“Maybe because she was able to survive the Fold, she is now the Sun Summoner, you cannot continue to deny it forever, there is hope you two will see each other again” Inej knew that they both were trying to find a name to have some closure, but it was not always that easy
“Hope is dangerous, it can cloud anyones judgement, including our own. Just like your mind has been clouded by your questions of my past with Anna Mizeloph, I told you I wanted your complete focus on this job” Kaz said adjusting the goat he was holding in his arm
“I will, this will be the last time I promise” Inej could tell that she was pushing on Kaz berries with talking about Anna
“Don’t forget Inej, we all have debts to pay” Kaz walked off to meet head towards the meeting point with Inej walking behind him
Once it got darker everyone had met at the disclosed location near the edge of town so they could start their journey, but there was one person missing, Jesper. They still made their way towards where the train would be when Inej stopped to read the sign.
“Wait, there are landmines here..” Inej said looking to Arken
“I put those signs up there to keep people away” Akren informed them
Kaz looked behind “where the hell is Jesper?” he did not want to be delayed
They walked over to where the machinery was hidden that would get them through the Fold “It’s one thing to hear about it, but.. This is..” Inej looked at the looming darkness as they got closer
“Nothing compared to what lies within” Arken went through the thick shadow and pulled the train out “there, so the goat, jurad.. Thank you. Now we are just waiting on the coal..”
“Wait for me!” Jesper yelled as he ran, followed by gunshots
Arken began to panic as he saw Jesper running towards their location with people following behind “they can’t see the train!”
“Leave the lantern!” Inej yelled
“Landmines!” Jesper looked at the sign
“Come on!” Kaz knew it was going to be close
Jesper tossed the lantern onto the ground and ran to the train in the dark making sure to watch his step. Once he got in he felt a slight sigh of relief wash over him, he had gotten coal and not been blown up.
“Please tell me you have 20 pounds of alabaster coal” Arken pleaded
Jesper gave him the bag “slight snap in the plan, turns out the kid who was helping me buy the coal didn’t exactly know how to, um, buy coal”
“We know you gambled it away” Kaz knew Jesper too well
“I lost a bit of the money.. Well, I lost all of the money, but! I was able to steal 20 pounds of alabaster coal” Jesper smiled a little
“No no.. there’s only 16 pounds” Arken was slightly panicking
Jespers smile faltered “16 pounds of alabaster coal”
“Can we do it on 16?” Kaz asked
“Never been done before, now I need you three to sit down and never shift your weight” Arken started to set everything up to get the train to start moving, then they suddenly heard the sound of an explosion and men screaming
Jesper shook a little “Landmines..”
Kaz looked up a Arken from his spot “I thought you said they weren’t real”
“I said no such thing, I just said I put the sign up” Arken began to put coal in and the train started, they entered the Fold.
It was quiet in the train so far, everyone was thinking about anything else than being inside the Fold. As the train chugged on Kaz knew that right now he should be thinking about what they will do to get into the Little Palace, but his thoughts drifted to Anna Mizeloph. He knew better, but Kaz could not help it, the little girl with white hair that he remembered was now the Sun Summoner. He remembered when they were younger, imagining their lives and how everything would work out.
-
Little 8 year old Kaz and Anna were holding hands as they ran down an alley holding a few items of food. Once they got to their safe spot they sat down and started to nibble at the food, Anna looked over at Kaz.
“What do you think our lives will be like once we are older Kazie?” Anna asked
“Honestly, I’m not sure, I want to get back at Pekka for putting me and Jordie in our current situation” Kaz was angry, he and his brother had the chance to start a new life when their father had died, they should not be in this situation
“But you met me.. You mean a lot to me Kazie” Anna said looking at the small amount of food she had left, this was all she knew, living on the streets
Kaz sighed “the future also involves me and Jordie becoming rich and you will be a part of that Anna, we will stick together” he smiled a little at her and pulled Anna close
“Good” she rested her head on his shoulder “but if you become rich can we travel the world? Maybe see Ravka? I’ve only heard of it from others travelers, but it sounds beautiful”
“Anything you want Anna” Kaz adjusted Anna and began to run his fingers through her hair to try and get a few tangles out “when we are older you will get whatever you want, I promise”
Anna smiled and closed her eyes feeling Kaz run his fingers through her hair. While she hated that Kaz and Jordie were cheated out of their money to survive, Anna was thanking every saint that she had known for meeting Kaz. She felt beyond lucky to have a best friend like Kaz and wished that they had met under different circumstances.
“Hey Kazie?” Anna said softly
“Yes Anna?” He continued to run his fingers through her hair now for comfort
“Can you make me another promise? This one is more important..” Anna could not imagine her future without Kaz
“Anything you want Anna” Kaz smiled a little finishing his combe through of her hair and pulled her close into a hug
“Promise me that we will never be separated, that we will grow up together and never leave each other, please promise me this” she pleased
“Yes, I promise” Kaz said, not knowing what the future held and that in a year he would break that promise. However, he didn’t know that, so with his ignorant bliss he made the promise
“Can we pinkie promise?” Anna asked looking at Kaz
Kaz smiled and nodded holding his pinky out “I promise”
Anna held her hand out and linked their pinkles “I promise” she continued to stay close to Kaz as he kissed the top of her head, their promise.
-
Kaz thought about that promise more than he would like to admit, he was the first one to break it. Even though it wasn’t really his choice because the people who collected him and his brother thought they were dead. However, that was still the moment of separation and Kaz wished that things could have been different. Anna was and still is an important girl to him and it made him think about what would happen when they were finally face to face. It would eventually happen since Anna is the key to the million kruge mission. Kaz wondered if she would recognize him or not, if she did how would she react? There was a lot running through his mind about Anna that was suddenly jossled when the train jerked.
With the sudden motion of the train came a strange noise snapping Kaz out of his thoughts “what was that?”
“Bits of metal hun on the poles, when they collide with the one on the train it markes where we are in our journey, right now we are on time” Arken said while looking at his watch
“How did you know where to put the poles?” Kaz asked
“Physics and engineering are a part of.. Most of my success” Akren continued to focus on his watch, he would glance at the coal then back at his watch
“And the rest?” Kaz glanced up at Arken
“What we might call divine intervention” Akren checked the coal against
“What other might call luck” Kaz never enjoyed relying on luck in anything
“And after all, the Fold is thick with volcra, and the tracks are not complete. Coal please” Arken said, Kaz threw some coal in
“I’m sorry, did you say the tracks weren’t complete?” Jesper asked starting to feel a little bit nervous and began to move
“Ah, ah! No moving” Arken said “it seems like we are falling behind, by my calculations we are now a tad late, more coal” Kaz put some more coal into the flames, fueling the train to continue going
“Back to the real issue, we are on tracks that don’t connect to other tracks” the amount of panic in Jesper was beginning to rise
“There is a gap, but..” Arken was going to continue but Kaz cut him off
“You said you could get us through, how much of a gap?” Kaz asked
Arken sighed, continuing to watch the coal and the watch to see if they could get back to being on time. “I built slats on the car, they roll into place under the wheels and the turbine generated enough wind to push all the way to the eastern tracks. This only works if we did not shift our weight, now we are about to go past a nest, the noise may attract volcra but it is the only way across”
As they continued through the sound of growling volcra echoed “now we have a problem, but we should be fine if they haven’t attacked us by..” the flapping wings of volcra got closer
Kaz looked at how Arken reacted “if need be how do you fight them off?”
“There is no way to fight them off, I can only outrun them to give a fighting chance. Open the throttle and toss all of the coal in, if we had 20 pounds this would work” as the coal was tossed in the train was gossled, Arken looked out to see what had happened “Damn! One of them impaid itself onto a spike”
The blood from the Volcra seeped through the ceiling and into the train “we need to get it off or else the other will stand on it” Kaz said
“More coal!” Arken commanded
Kaz threw the rest of the coal in and the bag it came in “we are down on fumes!”
Everything was beginning to unfold against them, they were behind, volcra were now attacking their only means of transportation through the Fold. A true nightmare, it almost had seemed too good to be true in the beginning when everything was running smoothly. Kaz could tell that they would be cutting it close, if they could even make it through.
Arken nodded “we won’t make it with this extra weight” he continued to try and get the dead volcra off the spike
“This is how we die” Jesper said
“Jesper grab the goat” Arken looked down at his watch to see if they were any close to the other side of the Fold
“I’m not throwing out the goat!” Jesper yelled
“Damit it Jesper, grab the damn goat! It’s not bait, it is for you now I need you to calm down and hug the goat!” Arken yelled back at Jesper
The sound of metal meeting metal rattled through the train “no no.. we should have hit that mark 20 seconds ago”
This caught Kaz's attention “20 seconds? Meaning..”
“My timing is precise in order to get us through, even 20 seconds behind means the train could stop inside the Fold which means.. Death for all of us” Akren looked down at the flames keeping the train going, but his attention was pulled away by the sound of volcra “there are more coming.. You may want to make your peace..”
Kaz never hoped for anything, until now he was hoping to make it through the Fold to see Anna. He had never been afraid of death, every mission in Ketterdam was a risk. However, this was different, he could die right here and never see Anna again. Within his thoughts he realised that there was so much more to this mission. Once her name left that man's lips the night of the job, that night he knew that this would be his chance to see her again. He needed to stay alive in order to see her and that would not be possible if he died in the Fold.
Arken looked up as the contraption that had taken him across the Fold too many times to count, it was now being torn apart by a few volcra. Jesper knew what he had to do, he had the guns, with his skills in hand he approached where the volcra were tearing through the top. The monsters screamed and with collection Jesper began to fire off shots at the swarming volcra killing all of them. It was a moment of silence before another metal ping rang, the sun shone through the hole made by the dead volcra. A sigh of relief left everyone in the train, they had made it through the Fold, alive. Now they had to figure out what the next plan was in order to get them into the Little Palace and get Anna Mizeloph.
-
Author Note - I am so sorry this chapter came later than I had hoped! These seem to only get longer and longer XD However I hope everyone enjoys this chapter! I originally did not plan on adding this chapter, but I thought it would be good to see more of Kaz and the past he has with Anna Mizeloph. Like always feel free to pm me if you would like to or leave a comment, I love reading what everyone has to say!

Welllp These Are Books: the April 2021 Edition
I did not read Romeo and Juliet this month. I read a bunch of other books. Like, a bunch. More than one series. Because Big Bang burnout is real and grown adults missing their deadlines is a real good way to stress me out. So, I read a bunch. Good books, very bad books, books that caused limbs to flail. For positive and not-so-positive reasons. Naturally, all those reasons must be shared. Under the cut with occasionally long and rant-prone reviews, as well as spoilers. Beware of spoilers under the cut. Please keep telling me what to read, internet. My library wish list is almost comically long now.
GIVE ME ALL THE WORLD BUILDING AND SNARK AND FIGHTING! WITH MAGIC! AND SWORDS! IT’S MY FAVORITE THING IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD!
Shades of Magic Series by V.E. Schwab
Kell is one of the last Antari—magicians with a rare, coveted ability to travel between parallel Londons; Red, Grey, White, and, once upon a time, Black. After an exchange goes awry, Kell escapes to Grey London and runs into Delilah Bard, a cut-purse with lofty aspirations. Now perilous magic is afoot, and treachery lurks at every turn. To save all of the worlds, they'll first need to stay alive.
— Picture it, approximately twelve forty-seven am. My husband is asleep. I am reading. The second book in this series ends. And I say, right out loud, at what might now be twelve forty-eight am, HOLY SHIT IT JUST ENDED. Justin thought we were under attack. No man has ever snapped awake quicker. He was not pleased. At least not in the same way that I was about these books. Which I goddamn LOVED. Loved. The world building. The magic. The banter. Rhy and Kell’s relationship. Once more. RHY AND KELL’S RELATIONSHIP. Which I might have cared about more than the romance??? Maybe??? I cannot get over how good this world building was. I know people have quips with it, and that’s fair. I saw the “twist” coming in the first book, and I think trying to preserve that left some plot holes that are understandably frustrating. Because Lilah definitely needed depth perception to fight as well as she did. Also did Schwab really refer to her as a cross dresser in her author’s note? Yikes. She wore a dude’s jacket, like—c’mon V.E. Other than that though. I loved it. Also shout out to @peglegsjones for suggesting this one in my 2020 post and call out to me for taking so long to read it.
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
Ketterdam: a bustling hub of international trade where anything can be had for the right price—and no one knows that better than criminal prodigy Kaz Brekker. Kaz is offered a chance at a deadly heist that could make him rich beyond his wildest dreams. But he can't pull it off alone. . . . A convict with a thirst for revenge. A sharpshooter who can't walk away from a wager. A runaway with a privileged past. A spy known as the Wraith. A Heartrender using her magic to survive the slums. A thief with a gift for unlikely escapes. Six dangerous outcasts. One impossible heist. Kaz's crew is the only thing that might stand between the world and destruction—if they don't kill each other first.
— I’ve talked about how little I cared about anything that happened in Shadow and Bone before, but I kept seeing gifs of the Crows in the Netflix show and my brain was like: huh, I could like them. So, after some help from the very helpful internet, I’m happy to report I do in fact like them. At one point, I slunk into the couch. Like that’s how overcome with emotion I was. Kaz ripped a dude’s eye out! For Inej! Matthias loved Nina’s laugh! I would like to hug Jesper. Seriously, this hit all my high points and world building and banter and I lol’ed at “scheming face.” I would like my hold to come through faster on the sequel.
THEY DID NOT CALL INTERMISSION HALFTIME AND MY COLLEGE EXPERIENCE WAS WAY DIFFERENT THAN THESE KIDS
The Off Campus Series by Elle Kennedy
Hannah Wells has finally found someone who turns her on. But while she might be confident in every other area of her life, she’s carting around a full set of baggage when it comes to sex and seduction. If she wants to get her crush’s attention, she’ll have to step out of her comfort zone and make him take notice…even if it means tutoring the annoying, childish, cocky captain of the hockey team in exchange for a pretend date. All Garrett Graham has ever wanted is to play professional hockey after graduation, but his plummeting GPA is threatening everything he’s worked so hard for. If helping a sarcastic brunette make another guy jealous will help him secure his position on the team, he’s all for it. But when one unexpected kiss leads to the wildest sex of both their lives, it doesn’t take long for Garrett to realize that pretend isn’t going to cut it. Now he just has to convince Hannah that the man she wants looks a lot like him.
— The first book in this series was free on Amazon. So, I read it. And really liked it??? It was so chock full of cliches and badly written tropes and Garrett probably should have accepted that Hannah didn’t want to go out at the start, but like—he was cute? And as we all know I am TRASH™ for stories set in the same verse, so, like, I just kept reading these trashy college hockey books. Trashy is a compliment here. God, these kids had so much sex. So much. An incredible amount, really. I once had a guy tell me he was physically attracted to me, but not emotionally attracted to me in college. Like, that was my college experience. The first and second books were the best, I think. I didn’t really like Dean that much.
MAYBE IT WAS BECAUSE HE WAS A RABBI???
The Intimacy Experiement by Rosie Danan
Naomi Grant has built her life around going against the grain. After the sex-positive start-up she cofounded becomes an international sensation, she wants to extend her educational platform to live lecturing. Unfortunately, despite her long list of qualifications, higher ed won't hire her. Ethan Cohen has recently received two honors: LA Mag nominated him as one of the city's hottest bachelors and he became rabbi of his own synagogue. Low on both funds and congregants, the executive board of Ethan's new shul hired him with the hopes that his nontraditional background will attract more millennials to the faith. They've given him three months to turn things around or else they'll close the doors of his synagogue for good. Naomi and Ethan join forces to host a buzzy seminar series on Modern Intimacy, the perfect solution to their problems--until they discover a new one--their growing attraction to each other. They've built the syllabus for love's latest experiment, but neither of them expected they'd be the ones putting it to the test.
— Ok, I know that sounds bad. Again, I’m a creature of predictable habit and this was the sequel to The Roommate, which I absolutely LOVED last year. But where as the relationship in that one was kind of swoony, this one was...I don’t know, really. Everyone was a well-rounded character and the plot was good, but there was this semi-invisible something that made it difficult for me to get fully on board with the whole story. Honestly, it might be because he was a religious figure?? Also, they got together real quick. Like zero to sixty in twenty-six seconds flat.
I KNOW IT’S BAD, IT WAS BAD AND YET—I CANNOT STOP READING IT???
Too Wild to Tame by Tessa Bailey
Sometimes you just can't resist playing with fire . . . By day, Aaron Clarkson suits up, shakes hands, and acts the perfect gentleman. But at night, behind bedroom doors, the tie comes off and the real Aaron comes out to play. Mixing business with pleasure got him fired, so Aaron knows that if he wants to work for the country's most powerful senator, he'll have to keep his eye on the prize. That's easier said than done when he meets the senator's daughter, who's wild, gorgeous, and 100 percent trouble. Grace Pendleton is the black sheep of her conservative family. Yet while Aaron's presence reminds her of a past she'd rather forget, something in his eyes keeps drawing her in. Maybe it's the way his voice turns her molten. Or maybe it's because deep down inside, the ultra-smooth, polished Aaron Clarkson might be more than even Grace can handle . . .
— Last month I read the first book in this series and it was absolutely ridiculous. This one even more so. The Clarksons are still on the road trip (sans one sibling because she fell in love in a week in the first book) and Aaron was, like, not a root’able character? Very Edward Cullen I’M A BAD GUY, BELLA vibes and his relationship with Grace was so strange. Super rushed again, obvs. Meeting in the woods is weird enough. Professing love forty-eight hours later is decidedly unbelievable. Also there was a kidnapping involved? I totally put a hold on the next book in the series.
COME UP WITH DIFFERENT TRAUMA, I DARE YOU! OR NO TRAUMA. WHAT A CONCEPT!!
The Trouble With Hating You by Sajni Patel
Liya Thakkar is a successful biochemical engineer, takeout enthusiast, and happily single woman. The moment she realizes her parents' latest dinner party is a setup with the man they want her to marry, she's out the back door in a flash. Imagine her surprise when the same guy shows up at her office a week later -- the new lawyer hired to save her struggling company. What's not surprising: he's not too thrilled to see her either after that humiliating fiasco.
Jay Shah looks good on paper...and off. Especially if you like that whole gorgeous, charming lawyer-in-a-good-suit thing. He's also infuriating. As their witty office banter turns into late-night chats, Liya starts to think he might be the one man who truly accepts her. But falling for each other means exposing their painful pasts. Will Liya keep running, or will she finally give love a real chance?
— I had such high hopes for this one. Which is on me, I guess. Because I didn’t hate this one, but it was...not great. Maybe I’m just getting old and crotchety but I am BEGGING romance writers to come up with different trauma for their female protagonists. Not every woman has to have been assaulted to rationalize their current personality. Doesn’t have to happen. Like, ok, yes it does happen. Far more than it should. But that’s an entirely different story, and I am so tired of female characters getting absolutely destroyed by their past only to have that be their defining characteristic for so much of the book. Until a nice man they were initially mean to shows up and he’s UNDERSTANDING and he CARES and it’s just, bleh. It’s bleh. Tired and predictable and I’m over it.
IN WHICH I SHOULD HAVE LOOKED AT THE COVER
Much Ado About You by Samantha Young
At thirty-three-years old Evangeline Starling’s life in Chicago is missing that special something. And when she’s passed over for promotion at work, Evie realizes she needs to make a change. Some time away to regain perspective might be just the thing. In a burst of impulsivity, she plans a holiday in a quaint English village. The holiday package comes with a temporary position at Much Ado About Books, the bookstore located beneath her rental apartment. There’s no better dream vacation for the bookish Evie, a life-long Shakespeare lover. Not only is Evie swept up in running the delightful store as soon as she arrives, she’s drawn into the lives, loves and drama of the friendly villagers. Including Roane Robson, the charismatic and sexy farmer who tempts Evie every day with his friendly flirtations. Evie is determined to keep him at bay because a holiday romance can only end in heartbreak, right? But Evie can’t deny their connection and longs to trust in her handsome farmer that their whirlwind romance could turn in to the forever kind of love.
— Ok, so I had had this book on hold for so long that I genuinely forgot about it and forgot who it was written by. Samantha Young wrote that one book that I called the worst book I had ever read. Only I did not realize that when I started reading this one. So, you see how this sets us up for disaster. Because this book was a disaster. Everyone was goddamn annoying. And whiny. Shit, everyone whined. About everything. Also, the actual writing was atrocious. I am not usually one to be like “men can’t write,” but at one point I told both @shireness-says and @optomisticgirl that this book must have been secretly written by a man because no woman writing it would be so obsessed with pointing out where her cellulite was. Like, what??? Also the first sex scene? Oh my God, I laughed. Guffawed. The so-called love interest literally asked: “Are we going to have sex now?” And then they just did. It was so bad. Also there was a dog? Who went everywhere with the so-called love interest. And they just never explained that? I thought it was going to be part of some crushing and depressing backstory. Nah, he was just there.
HOLY SHIT THIS WAS SO DUMB I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS WAS A BOOK! A BOOK MEANT FOR YOUNG ADULTS! WHAT IS YOUNG ADULT???
The Queen’s Secret by Melissa de la Cruz
Lilac's birthright makes her the Queen of Renovia, and a forced marriage made her the Queen of Montrice. But being a ruler does not mean making the rules. For Lilac, taking the throne means giving up the opportunity to be with love of her life, the kingdom's assassin, Caledon Holt. Worse, Cale is forced to leave the castle when a horrific set of magical attacks threatens Lilac's sovereignty. Now Cal eand Lilac will have to battle dark forces separately, even though being together is the only thing that's ever saved them.
— Remember last month when I was like: can’t wait for my hold to come through on this sequel so I know what happens? What an idiot. THIS BOOK WAS SO DUMB I CANNOT BELIEVE IT WAS A BOOK. As always in my rage-induced rants, no apologies for spoilers because seriously do NOT read this, but Lilac (legit, that was her name) married some other dude but just kept fucking Cale??? Like she had a secret door? So he could come in and they could fuck?? I just—oh my God. So, all these things kept happening. Magic and bad stuff and horses were killed. Lilac’s mother was the absolute WORST. Honestly the most worthless character who at one point was like “well, my story is over, guess it’s time to leave,” and then just left?? Forced Lilac into a marriage of alliance and no love and then everything evil was defeated in point two four seconds. It happened so fast I wasn’t even sure it happened. So, then I’m like, ok, how are Lilac and Cale going to end up together? Because this is YA and that’s how it’s supposed to work. Only her being married and that marriage requiring an heir is something of a rather large hurdle. Don’t worry! Remember when Lilac and Cale were fucking? Everyone totally knew. Including the king Lilac is married to. Who is somehow like...ok with this? And tells Cale that Lilac is pregnant. ISN’T THAT WONDERFUL! Sure, because now they can lie and claim its the king’s heir. ONLY IT’S CALE’S KID! AND CALE IS COOL WITH THIS! His entire internal monologue during this is about how he realizes he might not ever be able to tell his kid he’s their father, but he’ll be around and that’s good. Wait, what??? But there’s more! Not only is Lilac having Cale’s kid, but the king she’s married to is in love with one of Cale’s spy associates. So the king and the spy are going to go hang out (and presumably have their own kids) at one castle and Lilac and Cale are going to go to another. Lilac and the king never get divorced or annulled or whatever. Everyone stays as is and married as is and—they all live happily ever after? This was presented as a good ending, I swear. What the shit, guys, seriously.

New Resistance Headcanons
So, I made a few posts of headcanons for Star Wars Resistance characters. However, I made those before the series ended and before TROS came out. Now that the both series are over, and we got to know the characters better, I thought of new ones!
Kazuda Xiono:
CB-23 helped Kaz through the loss of Hosnian Prime and PTSD. He didn’t want to give the FO the satisfaction of being broken emotionally, which is why he’s his normal, cheerful self in seaosn 2 (and TROS, apparently)!
When he was little, he wanted to be like his father, that is, until he attended a sky race. Since then, he has wanted to be a racer.
His squadmates from the premiere (Hugh Sion and Mia Gabon) had been his best friends since childhood.
He had every hologame ever created
He never wanted to go to military school. In fact, he did everything he could to get himself expelled. But, when he found out his father was pulling strings to keep him there, he gave in and started behaving better.
He was in his first year of military school when the napkin bombing (In the Bloodline novel) happened. When he heard about it, he freaked out and was really worried about his parents. When he heard that Leia saved all the senators, that’s when he began to admire her. That admiration didn’t fade when he found out she is the daughter of Darth Vader. Of course, his father didn’t agree with him, in fact, they got into a shouting match, which ended with Senator Xiono smacking Kaz across the face and grounding him for an entire season.
Wedge Antilles was Kaz’s flight instructor. He told Kaz stories of the Rebellion, which got Kaz interested in joining the Resistance.
He has gone on a few dates, but the girls he dated were only with him because he was rich or because they felt sorry for him.
He’s actually pretty smart when it comes to academics. He got the scar on the side of his head from a training accident. He tripped and fell onto a sharp ledge and had to have surgery. The injury affected his mobility, which is why he’s so clumsy.
He is (was?) close to his mother, who loves him and supports him in everything he does.
He had a nanny droid who was like a second mother to him.
His mother would take him to the Hanging Gardens and lunch at the cafe there, and Kaz secretly loved it.
He thought about starting a family when he was good and ready, and vows never to treat his children the same way his father treated him.
He has only been drunk once. He stumbled around town and broke into a store and made out with a mannequin. Since then, he vowed never to drink more than one glass per week.
He hated attending Senate dinners and banquets, but, in order to please his father, he kept still and hid his emotions behind a smile.
His only other language is binary, but he picked up a few languages after being on the Colossus.
He often imagined telling Tam, Neeku, and Torra the truth about why he was on the Colossus. Deep down, he knew that Neeku probably would have told the entire station within the hour, and Tam would have turned him in the first chance she got.
After Torra told him she knew he was in the Navy, he was secretly relieved that at least one person besides Yeager knows some truth about who he is. He would tell Torra stories about the Navy and Hosnian Prime. He promised her he would take her there someday.
He started to develop a crush on Torra, but instantly shook off those feelings when he found out how old (well, young) she is. If he pursued her, then Doza would kill him slowly and painfully.
He had nightmares about the Hosnian Cataclysm. Every time he’d close his eyes, he saw Hosnian Prime being destroyed.
He hid his grief for his home and his family and friends from everyone. In private he would sob his eyes out while clutching his lucky trophy like a lifeline, but otherwise, he’d put on a smile. Yeager and Torra know he’s lying, but decided to let him grieve his own way.
He bears no ill will towards the Resistance for not coming to their aid or failing to save the Hosnian System. Instead, he’s grateful they saved his life by recruiting him.
He feels bad about doubting Captain Doza, and even worse when he found out his wife is in the Resistance.
On their way to their missions, Poe would tell Kaz of his adventures throughout his life. Kaz loved hearing those stories, and was surprised to learn that Poe was from Yavin 4.
Deep down, he cannot understand why Tam is so intolerant towards him, but is okay with Neeku.
Initially did not like Yeager that much, but over time, he became like a father to him.
Kaz found a big brother in Poe, a little brother in Kel, and little sisters in Torra and Eila.
When he meets Rey, he is in awe. He’s never met a Jedi before. They instantly hit it off, bonding over mechanic-ing, piloting, and having an evil family member (If Hamato is with the FO).
He tries not to show it, but he is beyond sick of people doubting him and teasing him about his clumsiness and shrieking every five minutes.
It took every ounce of his willpower not to attack Hux at the Titan.
Jumped at the chance to join Lando’s fleet at Exegol.
“Hit those underbelly cannons. Every one we knock out is a world saved.” Kaz knocked out eight: five for the Hosnian system, one for Tehar, one for Aeos, and one for Castilon.
He was shocked that Poe used to be a spice runner, but accepted it and moved on.
He helped the Resistance rebuild and redeem the New Republic.
Yeager:
Yeager was born on Batuu during the end of the Clone Wars. Marcus was born ten years later.
Yeager joined the Rebellion a few months before the destruction of Alderaan.
His parents were killed by the Empire before the Battle of Endor.
He was in Green Squadron with Shara Bey (Poe’s mom).
He met Leia, Han, Luke, Cassian, Mon, Ackbar, Wedge, Norra, Shara, Kes, and Hera. He actually had a little crush on Leia until he heard she was taken.
He met Doza during the Battle of Jakku.
He and his squadron took down the main star destroyer. That destroyer had all the main computers and weapons for the battle.
He met his late wife after he was injured at the Battle of Jakku. She was a doctor.
He looked after Marcus after their parents died.
He and his wife tried for many years to conceive a child, finally succeeding nine years after the Battle of Jakku.
His ship was named after his late wife, Ayala.
He babysat Poe a few times.
He was there for Poe and Kes after Shara died.
After the death of his family, he punched Marcus, told him he never wanted to see him again, then disappeared.
Like Kaz, Yeager grieved in private. He became emotionally detached. When he hugged Marcus after the Platform Classic, that was the very first time he hugged someone since his family died.
Each night, he’d take his family photo to bed and talk to it about his day.
When Tam applied for a job at his shop, Yeager was instantly reminded of his late daughter (as well as Marcus). He accidentally called Tam by his daughter’s name once. They never spoke of the incident again. Tam was everything Yeager imagined his daughter would be like.
Over the years, he came across attractive women, but he never acted on them because he felt he’d be betraying his family.
The destruction of the Hosnian System reminded Yeager of Alderaan and his own family’s deaths. He hugged Kaz, but it was uncomfortable for both of them.
He was initially glad that Poe didn’t recruit him for the spy mission, but as he grew to care about Kaz, he kind of wished he agreed to do it in the first place.
Tam:
Tam was born on Kuat. Her mother died when she was a baby.
Once she was old enough, her father dragged her along to all of his races.
She heard stories about the Empire and the Rebellion from her father, who watered it down.
Her grandfather was actually forced to work at that Imperial factory. Sort of a reversed Jyn and Galen thing. Jyn thought Galen worked for the Empire because he loved it and hated him for it, but realized he was forced to work for the Empire. Tam actually loved her grandfather for working for the Empire, and thought he worked at that factory because he loved it.
Tam’s father died of bloodburn when she was eighteen.
Tam was angry after losing her ship and that race. Yeager calmed her down and talked to her a few times about it. He became like a father to her.
Hype was her first real friend. When he forgot all about their friendship, Tam took it really hard.
She was hesitant upon making friends with Neeku, but over time they became really good friends.
After Kaz joined Team Fireball, and everything that’s happened afterwards, she felt like her world was collapsing at an alarming rate. Kaz took her friends, her ship, and her father figure. She even envisioned smothering Kaz in his sleep.
She was surprised when Supreme Leader Ren wanted to meet with her. They bonded over joining the FO because they were lied to and deceived.
She gave the Fireball to Kaz, feeling that she doesn’t deserve it after everything that happened.
Neeku:
Neeku grew up on Tatooine (he came from a long line of bantha herders, and his species prefer desert climates).
He is the anti-Anakin: loves sand, was born and raised free, and did not like racing; but loved watching races.
He is either autistic or he has Asperger's.
He spent some time at Mos Eisley, which is where he’s seen bounty hunters.
When he arrived at the Colossus, he wandered around trying to make friends.
He and Rey would instantly bond over growing up on desert planets and being mechanics.

Hi! Will you write fanfiction about the wedding of Nina and Matthias?
Hi Anon, here we are! I didn’t find much about weddings in Grishaverse, so I improvised, hope you’ll like it! A UNIQUE WEDDING Matthias was challenging all the resistance skills he trained during his teenage years. His mind and soul were a burning mix of confusion, anxiety and happiness, each of them constantly trying to overwhelm the others, but with little success. How was he supposed to think straight, with Nina by his side, his beloved Nina, his little red bird, wrapped in a beautiful, gold wedding dress? She was going to become his wife, he was going to become her husband, and all of this in front of a frightening number of people. Even though they were marrying in Ravka, they tried to make their wedding unique mixing traditional elements from both of their cultures. At her left side there was Inej, at his right his best friend Helèna, the young doctor who saved his life three years before, when he was shot. Nina slightly turned her head, giving him a little smile who made his legs trembling. Finally, the officiant asked for the wedding rings and everyone let a softened giggle out, seeing Trassel carrying a beautifully decorated little box, with Aenya by his side. Matthias' heart melted: their beautiful daughter was only one year old, she barely walked and had to grab Trass' fur with her little hand, to keep her balance, but she had a proud expression on her cute face, that made her look like a small, plump warrior princess. He and Nina knelt, caressing Trass and kissing the toddler's full, rosy cheeks, then, after they took the wooden box with the rings, they softly told her to go to Granny Astrid. Once the little girl sat quietly on Matthias' grandma’s lap, the officer made them pronounce their vows and exchange the rings. “I declare you husband and wife. You may kiss.” Those words sounded like an overwhelming music to the Fjerdan's ears. During the days before the wedding, he was sure he would have told Nina to share a moderate kiss, but, in that moment, all his rational thoughts vanished and he only focused on the warmth of Nina's soft body pressed against his, her arms around his neck, his large hands rubbing her back and their lips engaged in a passionate meeting. When he was a child, the last thing Matthias could imagine was his wedding party would have taken place in the garden of the Ravkan royal palace. He felt still a little dizzy due to the intense emotions he was feeling that day, but his soul was filled with joy and warmth every once he looked at Nina, who was laughing with Inej and gladly eating all the delicious dishes that had been served. Not to mention the overwhelming tenderness he felt when Aenya climbed on his lap, sitting and grabbing a piece of soft, white bread. Helèna was sitting next to him, on his left, and she probably noticed he looked a bit dazed, since she gently touched his hand: “Are you okay?” The Fjerdan nodded: “Yes, I'm... I'm just overwhelmed by my emotions...” “Hope they're positive” she said. “I mean... your emotions...” Matthias smiled, kissing Aenya's cheek: “Yes. The best emotions I have ever felt.” Once the dishes were cleaned, Nikolai reached the middle of the room, making a brief speech to give the spouses his best wishes. “And we all hope our gifts will be appreciated” he finally added. “I am just sad to inform you I couldn't buy you a ship. I really, really wanted to do it, but Zoya said NO! Yes, with this evil tone.” Zoya smiled, raising her eyes to the sky, while the guests laughed. “Not to mention,” Nikolai continued. “That the groom's stomach isn't a fan of sea voyages. So, I had to buy you something else.” Other speeches followed. The heartwarming words of Inej, the sweet ones of Granny Astrid and, as a conclusion, the delightful mix of wisdom and fun Jesper gave them. After Wylan sang a typical Fjerdan song for them, dances started, following the rhythm of traditional Ravkan wedding music. “How are you, my mighty barbarian?” They were slowly swaying, the Grisha's head rested on her Fjerdan husband's shoulder. Music had gone sweeter, leading many couples to share some tenderness on the dance floor. Matthias kissed Nina's head, taking a look all around: “I couldn't feel better, my love.” Jesper and Wylan were dancing face to face, their foreheads touching; there was something both cute and funny in the weird position Jesper took to look Wylan into his eyes. Not far from them, there were Kaz and Inej. The Demjin had accepted to leave his cane and join the dances only when the girl invited him. In that moment, Inej's back was leaning against the criminal's stomach, his arms around her tiny body. He placed a gentle kiss on her dark hair and on her cheekbone and, much to his surprise, Inej suddenly turned around, surrounding his neck with her arms. After a first moment of hesitation, Kaz leaned down and his lips shared a brief touch with hers. “Aeny seems to enjoy the party” Nina noticed, nodding at the little girl who was playing with Uncle Kuwei: the boy hid a hazelnut in one of his hands and Aenya had to guess where it was and, on the following turn, they exchanged their roles. “She's amazing” Matthias said, smiling and placing his lips on his wife's neck. “And so are you. The most important women of my life. I love you so much.” Nina let a delighted moan out, then, she cupped her husband's cheeks, caressing his blonde beard, and she gently bit his lower lip. “I love you too, my brave, wonderful barbarian.” “I should remind you we're in front of... many people” he giggled. “But... I'll do this, instead.” He kissed her passionately, like the garden all around them was empty, like they were alone in a sweet, enchanted reality. The joy that filled his chest was strong, intense, loud, like a firework. He thought he experienced it only once before, when he saw their little Aenya for the first time. Everything was perfect. Everything was beautiful. He didn't know how much time had passed, once they slowly parted their lips. But he gladly lost in Nina's green eyes, until they widened, enlightened by a joyful glance. “The cake!” she said. “The cake is coming!”

Prompt: “It’s not your fault.”
Fic-a-day February, day 5 -- unpolished, unedited, unmerciful. I looked at this prompt and thought, “Maybe Jesper and Wylan were playing around and broke an antique,” and then I went with entirely not that. This one draws on view of Grisha in the Wander Isle, according to TGT, but is entirely SoC-based.
Trigger Warning: Murder (not graphic but very much present), grieving a lost parent
----------------
Jesper told himself things just worked out that way. Things just worked out that way – he needed to be sure Wylan was settled. (Never mind that Wylan had been saying, “I’m all right, Jes, you should visit Colm,” for months. Like the merchling knew anything about anything!) Things just worked out that way – Inej had stayed with them, briefly, then come home from her first voyage on her new ship. Of course he knew she saw Kaz first, but at the end of the day, even the Wraith liked a good meal and a soft bed. (“I’m so proud of you,” they had chorused, Jesper to the righteous pirate, Inej to the months-sober sharpshooter.) Things just worked out that way…
He let himself into the house, surprised by how different it felt. Wasn’t he returning home? Somehow Jesper was surprised to find it wholly unchanged. He felt like he had stepped back into his memories, the same place but the wrong time. It had only been two and a half years, but all that had changed was Jesper. He no longer fit the shape of the space he left behind. Jesper shook his head. What was that nonsense? Banishing the inexplicable melancholy, he set down his bag and left the little clapboard house. Briefly, Jesper glanced at the cherry tree. Then he headed out to the western field. His da would’ve spotted him, if he had looked. If he had known to look. As it was, Colm was so engaged in his work he only noticed when Jesper was nearly beside him. Then Colm about leapt a foot off the ground. “Jes!” He grinned and, like he had in the Boeksplein, hugged his son tightly. This time, there was no relief in his eyes. He was happy, surprised, but he hadn’t been worried. This time, Jesper didn’t mind having the breath hugged out of him. “I missed you, too, Da.” Jesper hadn’t been in Ketterdam a month before his sensible, well-patched farmboy clothing was long forgotten. He hadn’t worn drab colors voluntarily ever since. When he clarified precisely what he expected he’d be doing, Wylan had asked, “Are you going to get new clothes for the trip?” He did that sometimes. He said something that reminded Jesper what a privileged life he had led. Times like that, it was tough not to tease him. So Jesper had teased him. They worked together until the sun dipped low to the horizon. Jesper hadn’t done this sort of work in years, but his body remembered even as his mind began to wander. Hard work wasn’t the same is interesting work—but he was needed here. Useful. And he was better, he reminded himself. It was worth it when they stopped for the evening. The smile Colm gave Jesper was worth everything. For the best part of a week, they worked together. They didn’t talk much. Colm would offer the occasional, “All right, Jes?” or “It’s good to have you here.” Sometimes, Jesper’s attention wandered back to the cherry tree, but there was work to be done. And that was that. One morning, Jesper’s eyes drifted open, his mind scratching at the reality surrounding them. It was late—not so late at home with Wylan, but by farm standards, they were wasting daylight. Why had Colm let him sleep? Then Jesper realized it must be Sunday. Colm had gone to church. More, he had left Jesper behind. Colm Fahey was a religious man whose previous attitude was that when you lived under his roof, you showed respect to the Saints, and that didn’t just mean swearing by them. Jesper stretched, wriggled his toes, and decided he might as well get up. Might as well make himself useful—maybe he didn’t live here, but he wasn’t a guest, either. He made the bed. There was a trick he had learned, one his ma used to do. He pulled the dirt away from clothes with his gift. Everything still needed a wash, but not so desperately, enough for Jesper to have everything clean and hung out to dry in under an hour. He made biscuits without burning them. After making a few twitchy rounds of the house, resettling things, struggling to busy himself, Jesper swallowed. He left the house. It was an almost cruelly beautiful day, a breeze slicing through the blistering heat, the sky unfathomable. Laundry hung on the line, half-dry already. The fields were swiftly becoming bare. Jesper took pride in that. He took pride in how much work they had done together. Though he had no desire to stay on the farm, knew he was destined for grander things, but this place would always hold his heart. There had been a time this was all the world he thought there was to know. His childhood had been here. His da was here. Jesper stopped under the cherry tree. It was a healthy tree, its leaves glossy-green. He couldn’t remember precisely the right spot and shuffled back. He didn’t want to stand on… on the wrong place. He stuffed his hands in his pockets. Then took one out to rub his neck, then his nose was itchy. He ran a hand over his hair. Bounced a Kerch penny across his knuckles. He squatted close to the ground like somehow being five feet closer would answer all his questions. Or at least tell him which ones to ask. Jesper was standing once more, staring at the ground in something like confusion, when Colm joined him. They stood together quietly for a few moments. “She’d’ve been proud.” “That’s why Wy says.” Jesper hadn’t made much mention of his boyfriend on this trip, but it was true. Whenever Jesper couldn’t help saying a word about his ma, that was what Wylan said. She would be proud. Really? She would be proud her only son went a whole six weeks without a slip-up visit to the tables? She would be proud he was so confused about his gift that he spent years hiding it, even after he became sick with the effort? Colm nodded. “Jes, I… what happened that night…” Jesper remembered the words he had sobbed out too many times. I should have known. I should have saved her. And every time, Wylan held him, stroked his hair, rubbed his back, promised that this wasn’t Jesper’s fault. Wasn’t it? Ma used her gift to save someone’s life. Jesper could barely manage the wash. His tiny spark of magic wasn’t much, but it would have been enough. If he had been trained, it would have been. Colm cleared his throat but couldn’t find the words. So Jesper found his. “I know,” he said. “I know it was my fault, Da.” “Your fault?” Colm asked, genuinely surprised. “Ma… Ma was training me. I didn’t know what it meant. She didn’t want to worry you with it, but if I had understood, if I had been more serious and not just wanted to shoot because it was fun—” “You were a child,” Colm interrupted. He sounded almost angry. “I was… you know what I was.” He nodded. “Grisha.” Jesper turned to his father in surprise. It had been Colm who banished those words from the house, Colm who insisted the only way Jesper could be safe was to be not that. Jesper remembered the day Leoni’s father offered to take him to train somewhere else. He had decided to stay to be with his father, even knowing… The words were out before Jesper could stop them: “I didn’t think I could be Grisha and still be your son.” Not resentful, just a fact. Colm’s head snapped up. “Jesper!” “I know you changed your mind since then, but you didn’t want me to be that way.” “I wanted you safe. I—” He cut himself off. Ran a hand through his graying hair. “I made mistakes, but you will always be my son. What happened to your mother was not your fault.” Jesper nodded. He wanted to say it wasn’t true, but he only wanted to say that because he heard pain in his da’s voice. He didn’t want to say it because he believed it. He didn’t believe it. It didn’t mean Jesper loved him any less, but he knew his da made mistakes. They stood for a long, quiet moment, both thinking their weighty thoughts. The truth was, Colm’s response to Grisha power—to Jesper’s and Aditi’s both—had shaped Jesper’s early adult years. It was Colm’s fear that made Jesper fear and hide. Maybe it made him more susceptible not just to the dice and the cards, but to someone like Kaz, who could draw him into a thrilling world where Jesper never truly belonged. He accepted his own responsibility, too. Another gusting breeze blew the worst of the afternoon heat off him, but it couldn’t assuage the gnawing shame. He was fundamentally at his own fault. Jesper accepted that as he stood there, looking at the patch of grass where his ma rested. For all Colm had failed, overall, he hadn’t, not overall. He had loved his son. He forgave him in Ketterdam, had come out here to stand with him beside the cherry tree. “I’m the youngest of the five of us.” Jesper turned to his father in surprise. The youngest? The five of who? “I never counted Meirion, he died too young, but my parents did. You’ve an uncle, my brother Pryderi. Still works the old farm, as far as I know.” Jesper’s eyes might as well have dropped out of his skull. He caught himself gaping and closed his mouth, but… still! He had never thought much of his father’s life Before. Before Ma, Before Novyi Zem, just in all the Before. He all but believed Colm Fahey sprung up a grown man and had no childhood at all. Colm encouraged it by never offering details about his life before. With an almost confused shake of his head, Colm said, “You must’ve known I had a reason to leave the Wandering Isle.” “I thought you killed a guy and were fleeing the authorities,” Jesper replied without thinking. When it doubt, aim for a laugh. Unable to deny his curiosity, he asked, “So one’s dead and one inherited your father’s farm. What do my other uncles do? Do I have cousins?” “Pryderi’s got two sons and a daughter. Gruff was like you. Gruffud, but we called him Gruff.” Colm ran a hand through his hair again. Jesper saw the pain in his father’s face and knew he ought to say he didn’t need to know. But… he did. And he sensed if he didn’t know now, he’d never learn. “Gruff and Glyndwr were twins. Glyn was like the rest of us, but Gruff was a healer. My brother never meant any harm to anyone. He was as kind a soul as ever lived.” Jesper suspected exaggeration, but he had a guess now where this brother was. In case he was right, he did not challenge his father’s claim. Something tingling on the edge of numbness coursed through him. “The Kaelish believe—not me. And he should’ve known better. I was a little younger than you are now. He wasn’t yet twenty. The Kaelish believe people like you are something not human, something fae. It wasn’t out of hate. They… Saints, you don’t need to hear this.” Jesper thought of what he had seen in Fjerda. He never told his da the full truth about that, this time not out of shame, but fear it would give the man a heart attack. He thought of the gruesome banner of red, blue, and purple kefta scraps; the charred corpses, and the one who hadn’t been a corpse yet; he thought of the kherguud, twisted past human. They weren’t memories he liked to carry, but he didn’t know that he could be whole without knowing the truth. “I think I do need to hear it, Da,” he said. “It’s my history.” Colm nodded. “All right. All right, then. They bled him. It’s what they do in the Wandering Isle—what some do. They believe Grisha blood can—they’re old folk with old ways, Jes. He wasn’t even twenty, my brother. Kindest man you could ever meet. Shy. When I saw what you were, I saw him again. I saw you in his place. I thought I was protecting you, you and your ma both. As though she ever needed my protection. I should’ve known the best I could do to protect you was let you be as strong as the Saints made you.” “Da.” In Ketterdam, Jesper had seen his da through different eyes. He had seen him in the Boeksplein and thought he looked like an obvious pigeon. He had seen him look so aged and so, so weary in the Ketterdam Suite. For the first time now, not only did he see his father differently, Jesper saw himself differently. Instead of cracking some dumb joke, he just stepped over and put his arms around Colm. “It’s not your fault, either,” Jesper said. “Not your brother and not Ma.” It was just uncanny, seeing that Colm felt what Jesper did, that they both looked at this tragedy and found some way to make it their own. He didn’t think he could absolve his da without absolving himself. Since he couldn’t let his da hurt, he didn’t see any choice. Anyway. It was what Ma would’ve wanted.

Currently Airing Cartoons to Watch: 2019 Edition Part 1
You may remember my list of upcoming cartoons to look out for last year, but this time around I would like to do something different! I am personally recommending cartoons that are currently airing (or are confirmed to get more seasons) and give my opinions on each of them. There may be other good cartoons out there, but if they are not on the list, it means I was not a huge fan of it, it’s a super popular show like Steven Universe or Star vs. the Forces of Evil, or I have yet to watch it. If you are looking for something to watch, this is the list!
Currently Airing:
The Dragon Prince
Summary: The Dragon Prince is an epic fantasy series by the head writer and director of Avatar: the Last Airbender. In the magical land of Xadia, magic comes from six primal sources. But when human mages create a seventh kind of magic, Dark Magic — they begin capturing and harvesting the unique magical creatures they need as ingredients. This sparks a catastrophic war between Xadia and the Human Kingdoms. Three kids from opposite sides of the conflict — two human princes, and the elven assassin who was sent to kill them — discover a secret that could change everything. They decide to join forces and go on an epic journey that may be their only hope of ending the war, and restoring peace to both their worlds.
Opinion: This is probably my favorite currently airing show right now, mostly since I am a huge fan of fantasy shows. Dragons, extremely hot elves, and magic- what more could you ask for? Every one of the characters is complex and likable (well most, depending on who you ask). But even the antagonists are compelling at there are always shades of gray present. Season 2 truly blew me away with how much the stakes were raised and the number of surprises that occurred. There is even going to be a AAA cross-platform video game coming soon set in the same world! The company that creates The Dragon Prince, is doing a fantastic job on their social media (it’s hilarious, trust me), and I cannot wait to see what else they create. A quick warning, the animation from season 1 will take a little while to get used to, but for the most part, it has been improved for Season 2.
Also, there a lot of memes, so get ready for that.
gen:LOCK
Summary: In gen:LOCK, Earth’s last free society is on the losing side of a global war, and recruits a diverse team of young pilots to control the next generation of mecha—giant, weaponized robot bodies. These daring recruits will find, however, that their newfound abilities come at no small cost. As Julian Chase leaves behind his life as a fighter pilot to become the first candidate for the program, he finds his endurance, as well as his very identity, will be tested beyond anything he ever imagined.
Opinion: For any current/past fans of Voltron: Legendary Defender- WATCH THIS SHOW! If you are a fan of mechas, you will surely enjoy this. But if you were more a fan of the character interactions from VLD, this show also has you covered. It has an amazingly diverse cast and even has a canon genderfluid character. It is a show made for adults, so the stakes are real and dark subjects are treated seriously. Even the romance is done very well with the characters acting like adults instead of arguing over each other like teenagers. Even from the first episode, you can tell that the show is willing to take risks and is sure to become one of the greatest shows of the decade. The animation is also beautiful, and is definitely the best looking show Rooster Teeth has created. The fan base is super small right now since the first season just aired and is RT First exclusive. But trust me, it is worth a watch.
Carmen Sandiego
Summary: Carmen is a modern day Robin Hood traveling the globe and stealing from V.I.L.E. and giving back to its victims. Carmen is publicly perceived as a criminal by most law enforcement agencies – correction, make that a master criminal due to the sheer scale and theatricality of her heists. We will follow her escapades and get to determine not only where but WHO in the world is Carmen Sandiego?
Opinion: This show really caught me by surprise- I was fully expecting a kiddy edutainment show, but what I got was something much more complex and intriguing. Carmen this time around, as the summary suggests, is an anti-hero, and not an antagonist or villain like she was in the past. While some may not want to watch it due to this, I think this take on her is done very well, and once you get past the two-episode backstory, you will find the show is fun with a diverse cast of characters from all over the world. This GIF doesn’t quite do it justice but trust me when I say this show has some one of the best looking art styles I have ever seen. Surprisingly the weakest aspect of the show is the educational factor, which is puzzling as it was very much promoted as a show to teach children geography. In some cases, I have seen posts/tweets pointing out factual errors the show made! Normally it wouldn’t be the biggest deal, but this is a show that prides itself for its educational value. Also, some of the characters have pretty flat personalities or are just straight up incompetent, but hopefully that will change as the show progresses further. The finale was amazing, and I am patiently waiting for the next season!
Tangled: The Series/ Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure
Summary: Set between the events of the feature film and the start of the 2012 CGI short film, Tangled Ever After, the animated series unfolds as Rapunzel acquaints herself with her parents, her kingdom and the people of Corona. Her irrepressible spirit and natural curiosity about the world drives her to the realization that there is so much more she needs to learn before she can truly accept her royal destiny. She boldly puts her crown and impending marriage on hold to seek out epic adventures, much to the dismay of the King who, after missing out on Rapunzel's childhood, must accept that his daughter is now an independent young woman. Accompanying Rapunzel on her journey will be Eugene Fitzherbert; the plucky chameleon sidekick, Pascal; the no-nonsense horse, Maximus; most of The Snuggly Duckling's pub thugs; and newcomer Cassandra, a tough-as-nails handmaiden, who becomes Rapunzel's confidant.
Opinion: This series is truly a delight, and definitely exceeded my expectations for a television series based off a Disney show (I did not expect much as most of those types of shows from my childhood weren’t the best). But I was truly wowed, and this is a must see for any Disney fan.The series does not ignore anything that happened in the movie, far from it. Events that occurred in the movie still impact Rapunzel and are treated seriously. The cartoon mixes comedy, adventure, lore, and mystery quite well. It is also very beautiful, much like Carmen Sandiego (both have similar styles but I like CS’s lighting a bit more). The show can even get quite dark, as is evident with the season 1 finale. This show deserves a much biggest fanbase, so give it a watch!
Hilda
Summary: Hilda follows the journey of a fearless blue-haired girl as she travels from her home in a vast magical wilderness full of elves and giants to the bustling city of Trolberg, where she makes new friends and discovers mysterious creatures who are stranger –and sometimes more dangerous– than she ever expected. Based on graphic novels by Luke Pearson, who storyboarded for Adventure Time.
Opinion: Hilda is definitely a comfort show, and if you liked Gravity Falls there is a good chance you will also like this show! The art style is simply adorable, and Hilda is a delight to get to know. I love the way that the show not only has magical creatures, but it goes in depth into how these creatures live and survive in a modern world. Having read all the comics, I personally enjoyed the addition of Hilda getting some human friends. I know some people did not like this, but she seemed quite lonely once she moved to the city, and I liked seeing her interact with children her age. Season 2 is coming out next year, so there is plenty of time to watch the first season! If you love a feel-good show with mystery and magic, this is the show for you!
Star Wars Resistance
Summary: The series is set between the events of Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi and Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens, in a time when the Resistance is still learning about the growing threat of the First Order. It centers on the character of Kazuda Xiono, a young pilot in General Leia Organa's Resistance who is tasked with spying on the growing threat of the First Order.
Opinion: This show was one I was not expecting anything from at all, but as the show has progressed throughout the first season I have begun to enjoy it more and more. This show, like many on this list, features a very diverse cast (including some aliens, of course). Probably the thing that surprised me the most was the fact that the main character, Kaz, is 20 years old! I feel like that is not something you see with action shows these days, as they usually make the protagonist 16 or 17 years old. I really like the animation style, as I always felt that without the big budget, the Clone Wars style just didn’t look that good in Rebels. Resistance is so... shiny! As for the plot itself, it is sad that most of my favorite aspects of Star Wars are missing, namely the Force, Jedi, and Light Sabers. But since it may eventually tie in more with the sequels, there is hope to see more of that eventually! It’s definitely not at Clone Wars level of good, but I am finding it more enjoyable than Rebels (excluding a few episodes and the season finales). It may never end up being as serious as Rebels, but I am sure it will get darker as time goes on and the stakes get higher.
Young Justice: Outsiders
Summary: Young Justice: Outsiders is the third season of Young Justice. The backdrop for the season is one that will touch on “all corners of the DC universe,” and this time the team is tasked with stopping a metahuman trafficking ring, as well as dealing with the “intergalactic arms race for control of these super-powered youths.” You can also count on new heroes Arrowette, Spoiler, Thirteen, Halo, and many more joining in the fight.
(^I can’t recall if this is the exact line from the show but this whole episode is the best)
Opinion: If you loved the first two seasons of Young Justice, it is easy to say that you should give this one a watch. But now that it is on DC’s streaming platform, DC Universe, IT IS DARK. Seriously, this is no longer a show for children. And that’s pretty great. I truly love that the show can now explore darker themes and have some adult jokes from time to time. However, unlike the first two seasons, I feel constantly confused about new characters or things that have happened to returning characters offscreen. Unless you are very knowledgable about DC characters, there is a good chance you will feel this way. So, it is sadly a bit more unwelcoming to those unfamiliar with the comics. I still love the show’s characters and superhero stuff, in general, is always a lot of fun. There’s also LGBT characters apparently already in the show (and some that were LGBT in the comics have appeared, but nothing in-show is confirmed), so hopefully, there is also that to look forward to in the second half of the season when it airs in June.
Big Hero 6 The Series
Summary: The series continues the adventures of 14-year-old tech genius Hiro and his robot pal Baymax. Joining the pair on their journey is control freak Wasabi, scientist Honey Lemon, fanboy Fred, and no-nonsense Go Go Tomago, whom together form the Big Hero 6 superhero team. As the new prodigy at San Fransokyo Institute of Technology, Hiro faces daunting academic challenges, not to mention the social trials of being the little man on campus. The stakes are also raised for the high-tech heroes when they must protect their city from an array of scientifically enhanced villains.
Opinion: Another very well made series based off a Disney movie. Once again, this show stays faithful to the source material. The art style is very interesting, and while not my favorite gives the show a very cool feel. Once the main villain is introduced, I was glad to report that he became a major threat very fast. And the season 1 finale was pretty great as well. My biggest issue concerning this series so far is that is still really hasn’t developed the side characters at all, despite them being in almost every episode. These are college students, so their families should still be quite important to them. But besides Fred, we have yet to really learn about them, and with that, a potentially important part of who they are as a person is missing. After a movie and a whole season, these characters should not seem as flat as they are, so I hope we learn more about them too. But we also get flashbacks of Tadashi, so for that alone the show may be worth a watch.
Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Summary: Deep in the sewers of New York City, four mutant turtle brothers lurk. Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, and Michaelangelo are in their early teen years, and the brothers go on new and exciting adventures. They tap into their mystic ninja powers to learn to work together as a cohesive unit and become a team of heroes as they navigate the modern world and other hidden realms. The brothers get a whole new look, new weapons, and new powers as they discover the hidden city beneath New York and find time for a slice of their favorite pizza.
Opinion: Okay I will admit this is one I haven’t actually seen all of yet. But the art style is just so cool I had to include it and will likely update this entry when I catch up. This show may be a worthy successor to the 2012 series, which I know a lot of people loved.
So that’s the end of my list. If I remember any other good shows airing, I may update it. But, if I got you to watch any, let me know and tell me your thoughts!

This is a little Kanej fic for y’all. Please feel free to give me feedback :)
Pairing: Kaz Brekker x Inej Ghafa
Series: Six of Crows
Inej Ghafa is her own person now. A captain of the rough seas, a notorious spy, a trapped Suli lynx, a promising young acrobat and docile daughter are all personas of her past. Though she will always trust that her Saints allowed her to be those people so she could learn from her experiences, she is happy in her newest life.
Or rather, they are happy.
In the many years following the Ice Court heist, Inej had traveled the sea on the ship Kaz had bought her, returning captured slaves to their home and punishing the slavers as she deemed fit. Sometimes she had mercy, but other times, like when she found a mother and daughter starved to death and naked in the captain’s personal quarters, she let her Saints guide her blades until the decks of those ships were stained crimson.
The nearly 8 years she spent tracking down slavers and destroying their businesses took a heavy toll on her soul. Inej had been full of hope, believing the best in as many as she could, but after seeing girls who didn’t want to leave ships because they were afraid their now-dead captors would punish them, she had lost some part of her faith. Her Saints would always be her guides, but she questioned how they could put so many through such pain.
Regardless of her wavering hope, Inej had returned to Ketterdam as often as she could throughout the years to bring her friends some semblance of hope. Jesper and Wylan always welcomed her with open arms, allowing her to stay with them at the renamed Fahey-Hendricks Manor. There, she would tell them stories of her latest escapades and watch with an ache in her chest at the way they gazed at each other; full of love, trust, and openness.
For the first few years Inej had always stayed in one of their spare rooms, decked out with fluffy pillows and a maid always on hand to attend to her needs. Why would she have ever wanted to leave?
The answer came in the trusting, feather-light touches and heavy glances filled with unspoken words from the coldest, most heartless man in Kerch, that became more frequent every time Inej docked on Ketterdam’s cold harbours. To be closer to him, to break down their barriers and remove their carefully woven armour for each other. Those were the reasons she kept coming back, searching for the glint of a crow’s head cane on the docks that, as the months passed by, more often than not was covered by a set of folded, bare hands and slim pianist-like fingers.
Then, she was no longer at the mansion, she was at the Slat. But not in her old room, Kaz had made that a storage room after discovering how it provided access to Per Haskell’s, now his, office (Inej still suspects that he had known all along). No, she was in the room of the Bastard of the Barrel himself.
The first night was an accident on Inej’s behalf. She had fallen asleep in the chair at the opposite side of his desk, gazing at him as he studied plans and payments for the Dregs. When she woke up, with an awkward crick in her neck, she saw that his arms were crossed on his desk with his face buried into them. She remembers thinking that he guarded himself from the world, even in his sleep.
The next time was not like the first. After sharing a tender moment, which left him without gloves and Inej’s heart racing, he asked her to stay. Way back when he asked her this during the aftermath of the Ice Court heist, she had rejected him and rightfully prioritized herself. She had no qualms about her past choices, but this time she gratefully accepted the progress. Inej stayed, joining him fully-clothed on the bed.
For the next four years, every time she stopped in Ketterdam they made it an unspoken agreement to try to break down another barrier, peel away another piece of armour. But they were warriors, trained by the horrors of their pasts and the violence of their present. So their armour did not simply unbuckle and slip off the way it did for others, it was sewn into their skin and welded around their hearts and souls. Sometimes the stitches came loose and other times they got sewn back up even tighter, but they never stopped fighting for the other to break another bond, destroy another obstacle.
Now she is here, standing outside the Slat, not as Captain Ghafa or the Wraith or any other title that had been bestowed upon her since she had been taken from that little caravan, but as Inej. She finally knows who she is, and more importantly, what she wants.
With her goal in mind, Inej walks into the familiar, battered building that has become her home. On her way to the stairs she nods at some of the older Dregs, like Anica and Pim, and Kaz’s newest spider, a young, dark-skinned girl named Lucille. She receives raised cups and small waves in return. Inej thanks her Saints that the gang is still thriving, ignoring their wrongdoings for the fact that they are her family. Then, she begins her climb to the attic.
Her feet glance soundlessly across the rickety wood as she remembers Kaz’s fight for dominance that had occurred on these very stairs. It was just one of the many close calls they’d both had in their dangerous lives. Her left hand smooths over the wooden banister and she makes a mental note to slide down it later, for old time’s sake.
As she climbs up the flights of stairs, she passes many closed doors that used to hold some of her closest friends. Jesper’s old room still has some garish lime green paint left on it, though most had been chipped away by its new owner, and Roeder’s, one of her fellow spiders that had died on a job a few years after she left, doorknob still appeared to be slightly crooked. These people were and are her family, regardless of all they have done to get here or stay here and she would never forget them. Her impressive memory had done her well as the Wraith and as a captain, but she was most pleased with it in situations like this. The situations when she remembers that Nina’s favourite waffle topping is cinnamon, that Wylan has a secret tattoo on his foot, that Jesper is going to propose soon, and that Kaz has a ticklish spot by the small of his back.
She stops abruptly in front of a black door at the top of the steps. The paint job has no chips and the handle is polished to a shine higher than that of her knives. Her feet had carried her to this familiar spot on muscle memory while she reminisced about all the good in her life, but before she could enter she needed to focus the storm of emotions in her mind.
He won’t be expecting her, she didn’t send a letter ahead this time because she didn’t know what to say, but he will know it’s her as soon as she opens the door. That is one of the constants of their relationship; no matter how quiet she is, he always knows she is there. She doesn’t mind it, in fact she finds the idea of them being so familiar to each other a little romantic.
Inej tucks a loose strand of hair behind her ear, trying to ease some of her nerves. She always knew it would come to this, but now that she is waiting here outside his door she almost can’t bring herself to open it. She sends a quick prayer to her Saints, tapping her correspondingly named knives as she mummers their names, asking for courage.
Saints, she’s being so dramatic. Standing in front of his door like some love struck teen was something Inej had never done, and wasn’t intending to make a habit of. Taking a deep breath, she finalizes what she wants to say in her head and reaches out to grab the knob.
Her shoulders go back and her chin tilts up slightly as she walks into the room. What she’s about to do almost feels like another performance.
“Hello, Kaz.”
Her deep brown eyes flit over the low ceilings and hardwood floors that are similar to the rest of the building, then settle on the oddities that distinguish the room as belonging to Kaz Brekker. A black leather armchair settled in the corner of the room farthest from the window; the desk Inej knows he refurbished himself after finding it by the edge of some rich mercher’s lawn and is covered in a mess of maps and papers; the door to her right that leads to his bedroom that only she has seen; and the aura of the man that faces her from his spot near the window ledge.
As her eyes glance over him, checking for any new injuries, his breath catches. The moonlight streaming through his window backlights him, the shadows obscuring most of his features and darkening the already sharp lines of his face and body.
He steps forward, into the candlelight coming from desk, and moves towards her. Inej watches the way he moves across the small room as quickly as his leg will let him go, and is happily surprised to spot no noticeable injuries or malcontent because of her surprise arrival.
Inej takes another two steps in his direction, then he stops right in front of her, staring down at her with his dark, mystery-filled eyes. His gaze flickers over her, checking for new scars or injuries as she did, but they focus in on the little slippers on her feet.
Since leaving to become The Notorious Captain Ghafa, she hadn’t worn the grippy, Fabricator-made slippers Kaz had gotten her for climbing, unless he specifically told her he needed her on a job. Inej smiles as she sees confusion in Kaz’s face, enjoying the way he squirms as he struggles to find his words.
Finally, looking directly into her eyes for the first time since she arrived, he speaks to her, “You’ve been planning jobs without me?” He nods at the shoes. “You know those are destined to fail.”
Inej laughs, carefree and happy, letting her head tilt back and eyes shut. She misses Kaz’s first full smile of the night and the slight lean of his posture towards her. The grin is gone by the time Inej opens her eyes, replaced with a slight, but still genuine, smirk.
“No, Kaz” She says with a more serious tone, “No more jobs, no more murders, no more tricks. I’ve spent so much time repenting my sins and this is the end of that journey for me. I believe there is another path that I need to take now, the only question is if you will take it with me.”
His smirk vanished when she began to speak, his face a mask of guarded emotions, but none too guarded for her.

This is a playlist of songs that goes along with the six of crows book, pretending that six of crows is a TV show and what songs they’d play to what parts.

Little Crow
Fandom: Six of Crows
Pairing: none? There’s the typical Kanej, Wesper, and Helnick
Request: i don’t know if you do one shots but can you do one where kaz and inej’s daughter comes out to the crows. it can be all the crows at once or like kaz and inej first the jesper and wylan and them nina and matthias or whatever order and stuff. Thanks!
Notes: This was so sweet to write, I chose to make the Reader queer and gender neutral so that you can insert any gender or sexuality into this that was needed since the request wasn’t specific, I hope I wrote this right and that you like it
You had been so nervous for this day. You were the child of two of the most renowned people in Ketterdam, one being the crime overlord of the Barrel and the other being the most famous pirate on the seas. It was a lot to live up to and until now you thought you were doing everything right, but now, realizing that you were attracted to people you weren’t supposed to be, you thought maybe everything would fall apart for you. But, you knew it was time to come clean. You had finally found someone you wanted to be with and you had to at least tell your parents and their best friends. You started with the easiest ones, the people you thought would understand the most.
Jesper and Wylan still lived in Wylan’s family home and you visited often so they weren’t surprised when you knocked on the door. They welcomed you in happily and sat down to a nice dinner.
“So are you here on family business or just because you missed your favorite uncle?” Jesper asked, sitting back in his chair as he sipped his drink. Wylan rolled his eyes.
“I’m the favorite,” he said. Jesper looked affronted.
“Never merchling, I am always the favorite, isn’t that right Y/N?” he said. You just laughed a little, still nervous.
“What’s wrong?” Wylan asked, sensing something was off. You took a deep breath.
“I’m queer,” you blurted, then swallowed hard. You hadn’t meant to just toss it out there but it had slipped out. Jesper and Wylan looked at each other and then looked at you.
“That’s great dear, do you want cake or waffles for dessert?” Jesper asked as if nothing out of the ordinary had happened. You took a breath and smiled.
“You have cake?” you asked. They smiled and nodded. When you left they both gave you an extra big hug and encouraged you to tell your parents, that they would love you just as much. You nodded and headed to find Nina and Matthias in their home in the Lid.
You didn’t visit these two as often as your uncles so Matthias was surprised but pleased, answering the door with a small child sitting on his shoulders. The Fjerda and the Grisha had 5 children and all of them were just as loud and raucous as their mother, which Matthias pretended to hate but really loved. You smiled as their youngest slid down from her father’s shoulders to hug you tight.
“Come in, we were just getting the heathens to bed,” Nina said as she passed by the doorway, herding the four older children up the stairs. “Just take a seat in the main room, we’ll be back. You nodded and sat, waiting patiently. Jesper and Wylan had been alright, these two would probably be the same. But they were normal, or well, they were what was considered normal. A man and a woman, having children and all that. You swallowed hard again, nerves starting to show.
“So Y/N, what’s got you visiting? Nina doesn’t work for Kaz anymore, make sure he remembers that,” Matthias said, folding his arms as Nina shook her head at him.
“But if he needs a favor I will gladly help,” she said, giving her husband a look as they sat down. You smiled and shook your head.
“No, I just…you’re my parents best friends and well, you’ve been like family to me, and I just…I’m…well…” you were struggling and you saw Nina get up, coming over and sitting next to you on the sofa. She took your hand in hers and smiled.
“Remember when you and Morgan were children and you used to pretend to be married all the time?” she said. You looked at her and she nodded. “We knew about you both, and we love you both so much.” You nodded again and leaned into her. She hugged you close and Matthias was soon over there, offering you a handkerchief for the few tears that spilled.
“Have you told your parents?” he asked. You shook your head. “I hear Inej is back in town…”
“I’m going to tell them as soon as I go home,” you said. He nodded and they both offered to come with you. “No, I’m going to do this on my own, I’ll be fine.” They nodded and sent you home with waffles and hugs.
Back at the Slat you knocked on the door to your father’s office. You could hear laughing from inside, your mother, and you smiled. She opened the door and you went in, shaking a little. You shoved your hands in your pockets to hide it. Kaz looked up from his work and smiled at you, reminding you that you were the only other person besides your mother that he actually liked. You were their only child and both were so good to you. Because of your father you knew how to spot a mark and steal nearly everything of value, but you also knew when to treat people well and when you cut them. Your mother had taught you how to spot dolphins in the sea and how sail a ship, how to sneak around rooftops and how to listen to conversations. You had taken over the Wraith name and her job when you were home.
“I heard you’ve been visiting,” Kaz said sitting back and looking at you. You glanced to your mother and she shrugged like it was no big deal, going to sit in Kaz’s lap. He held her hand in his, kissing it softly.
“Did you happen to hear what we were talking about?” you asked, hoping she didn’t know yet. She shook her head.
“You know I only keep an eye on you, what you do in your time is for you, I just like to know where you are in case of trouble,” Inej said. You nodded slowly.
“So mama, papa, um, I already talked to uncle Jesper and Uncle Wylan, Nina and Matthais, um, well, you see,” your throat was suddenly dry and you needed to take a breath. Kaz could see the panic rising in you. He set Inej on his desk gently and walked over, kneeling in front of you. You tried to stop him, his leg was probably hurting him, but he kneeled anyway, taking your face in his hands and helping you breath.
“You are stronger than the panic,” he said softly. You had suffered these attacks before and though he knew you didn’t have a trauma like he did he still blamed himself for somehow passing it down to you. He worked hard still to keep himself in the present, still not able to touch many people without gloves, but you he had never had issues with. It was like you were his miracle, his reprieve from the pain of his youth and he wanted to make sure you knew how strong you were, how very special. “Don’t panic, anything you say here to us will not change anything, you are still my little Crow.” You smiled at him and hugged him tight. Your mother came then, holding you both in her arms. They pulled back and you took a deep breath.
“I’m queer,” you said softly. They both nodded slowly and your mother kissed your head.
“I love you so much,” she said softly. “I love everything about you, I accept everything about you.”
“I love you too,” Kaz said. He rarely said this to anyone in words. He showed his love daily but actually saying it out loud always seemed hard, but this time it was easy, and you appreciated it so much. You hugged them both again and they asked if there was anyone special in your life. You blushed.
“There’s this person…they’re in another gang…” you said. Kaz cocked an eyebrow. “They’re a Black Tip.”
“Hopefully they can convert,” Kaz mumbled going back to his desk. “Bring them by the Crow Club tomorrow, I want to meet them.” You nodded and left the Slat, your mother kissing your head as you went. You felt good, complete, like you finally were able to be fully yourself in the world with the blessing of your family.
