I can’t get over Kageyama Ritsu…everyone says he’s the more popular, more attractive and cool Kageyama Brother but literally every scene of him at school ever is him avoiding anything that’s not School Council and not talking to anyone or so much as SMILING at anyone. Like honestly Mob and Ritsu are the SAME amount of socially awkward but the issue is that Mob is just more blunt and WILL say he’s not enjoying your company and leave (he’ll try to be polite but it’ll fall flat) but Ritsu is Bound By This Mortal Concept of Social Politeness and wouldn’t just say that to people’s faces so everyone thinks he’s the nicest guy when in fact he’s been hoping to spontaneously learn invisibility for the last half hour

Ritsu acts like he’s completely chill but is in fact a pathetic loser (affectionate). He calls his brother Nii-San. He hates Reigen with all the hate in his heart. He found the kid that kicked his ass when he was kidnapped and then let him into his home. He let that guy burn his house down for kicks. He became best friends with that kid. He keeps a spoon in his pocket. He can and will kill people if he feels like it. He got psychic powers and immediately became a villain about it for like 3 whole minutes before getting his ass humbled. He’s literally 13 and it makes everything about him 300% better.

someone doing a desktop simulator horror game throwback to the early 2000s needs to stop using Windows 98 or XP or whatever and pull out the real horror and use this baby as the OS as the basis for their digital horror game

the real ones out there who suffered the Millennium Edition know full well, you'll spend half your time trying to figure out if it's a demon possessing your computer of if it's just Windows ME being period accurate with its jank.

*This* is the OS you need to use for your Desktop Simulator Horror Game. It was already setup for a Desktop Horror Simulation out of the box. Please trust me, all aspiring game developers working on an early 2000s Digital Horror Game. Put Windows Millennium Edition in there. It was *made* for this.

Because it was definitely *not* made to run computers, that's for damned sure.

i LOVE mania, i genuinely think they’re a band that does not have a flop album, and it’s always so crazy to me how much hate it always got (and i still see it get) because it’s genuinely so! and it was such an interesting shift because it was so very very much fall out boy but there’s an exploration there and while stardust is definitely the album and era of healing and the boys™️ there’s such a love in the lyricism of mania that is just unlike anything else in fall out boy’s discography that i just think is fascinating and beautiful and just genuinely love the album so much

the crazy thing about working with a lot of neurodivergent kids while my coworkers are neurotypical is that my coworkers dont understand why these kids behave a certain way beyond "they are autistic"

yesterday we were outside and one girl (who has autism and has a lot of needs associated w that) asked me to blow some bubbles for her. some other counselors did earlier, and i heard them tell her over and over not to try eating the bubbles. i agree but warn her not to eat the bubbles, and when she does, i warn her again. she tries again, so i ask her if she knows why im telling her not to do that, and she says no. so i explain that bubbles have soap and water and chemicals, and that theyre okay to touch, but if you put a bunch in your mouth you can get sick. she nods and she stops trying to eat bubbles

like i just. i assumed these ppl who have been here for years had explained the reasoning to this kid, especially since she obviously benefits from that explanation. so i was so shocked when she said no, she doesnt know why she shouldnt eat the bubbles. youre for real telling me none of u tried actually talking to her beyond just saying "no"?

it was just a moment where i realized how little nt adults try to actually understand nd kids (or kids in general or nd people in general). yall really gave me the methods u use to calm her down but not the methods to keep her from having a meltdown bc u cant fathon why someone would act that way. and like yeah sometimes its inevitable, but sometimes its not and its easy to prevrnt and easy to keep these kids comfortable and u just dont know why they cant listen to ur instructions without question

some important calvin and hobbes facts in case you haven't read the original comic strip in a long time or only absorbed stuff on it from memes and out of context bits on here:

Calvin's last name has never been given, and neither has any of his parent's names. This was actually why his uncle Max only showed up for a brief storyline; the creator of the comic, Bill Watterson, ultimately felt that while it was fine to have him as someone for his parents to talk to, it felt far too awkward to never have Max refer to them by name and he never made a return appearance.

The general tone of the comic is fairly light-hearted, with a big emphasis on goofy slapstick comedy contrasted by clever wordplay and often surprising adult-centered jokes that'll hit you like a slap. A big part of the comedy is, as Watterson put it (paraphrased) "It's really funny to me when people express deeply stupid ideas with really fancy terminology." One notable example you might have seen is that one bit where Calvin asks his mom for money to buy a Satan-worshiping rock album and his mom replies that there's nothing genuine about them and they're just putting on the attitude for shock value, and comisserates with Calvin as he deplores that mainstream nihilism can't be trusted. He concludes that childhood is disillusioning.

There is a LOT of criticism of the extreme materialism and selfish mentality of the late 80s, when the comic was initially written. This may go a long way to explain how its aged so well; much of what it criticizes resonates well with people today.

Bill Watterson views comic strips a legitimate form of artwork, and repeatedly fought to have more space to draw more beautiful and artistic backgrounds, which was a very hard fight and unpopular even with other comic strip artists. He eventually did win some compromises and a lot of Calvin And Hobbes' artwork shows it, with the use of space to indicate time as well as a sharp contrast between the often plain environments of mundane life contrasted by the wildly beautiful imagery of Calvin's imagination (which often sports realistic depictions in an art shift of sorts).

Hobbes is explicitly not an imaginary friend, by word of Watterson himself. We don't know WHAT he is exactly, and Hobbes is apparently unaware of the strange nature of his reality; people look at him and only see an ordinary stuffed tiger plushie, but he has a tangible effect on the world that would be physically impossible for Calvin to do on his own. He's apparently been around for a while, and was apparently around when Calvin was a young baby.

On that note; Hobbes has implicitly killed (notably treated as both a gag and also with the vibe of 'he's a tiger, duh') and while he doesn't do it again on-screen, he doesn't have any moral issues about it. Calvin claims that he's never had trouble bringing Hobbes to school because the last time he did, Hobbes killed and ate a bully named Tommy Chestnut and simply comments that it was gross and he needed a bath. Calvin's tried to repeat this again, but Hobbes was grossed out at the thought having to eat a kid raw and not being allowed to use an oven first, or complaining that children are too fattening.

Hobbes became gradually less human-like in body language and more like an actual cat in both body language and behavior; this was due to Watterson drawing more inspiration from his cat, who also inspired a lot of Hobbes' running gags, such as pouncing on Calvin when he got home. Several years into the syndication of the strip, Watterson's cat passed away, and he did a tribute to her with a comic strip of the two of them agreeing to try to dream together so they can keep playing when they have to sleep; Watterson's commentary (if I recall right), remarks on his cat: "We can see each other again in dreams."

which is really just a fancy way of describing the cycle of abuse and therefore worked very well, generally going into effect before the kid in question turned 21

so my matrilineal family tree winds up a fractured, miserable mess, lots of young marriages and parents falling apart generation after generation, serial toxic marriages with generations of kids scattered across the whole state in foster homes - very nasty stuff

until it gets to me (firstborn in my generation of cousins) and by the time im twenty one i am 1. both daughter and son and neither 2. extremely aspec and queer

which apparently this neighbor did not conceive of when casting her eye and seems to have simply error messaged the curse into oblivion. no one born after me has had this problem. all their romantic relationships are loving (though i would never claim them perfect) and their children adored. fairytale loopholed so hard the damn thing disintegrated. its the funniest magic story i have lmao
