It will forever be hilarious to me that Disney wanted so fucking bad to make a Wicked movie — but couldn't get the rights from Universal — that they literally spent billions upon billions of dollars making SEVEN different films (and a whole season of television; not even including their sequels and spinoffs) more than one of which they even got Idina and Kristen to be in based on the stripped-down premise of "what if the Stock Female Antagonist™ was secretly the Misunderstood Angsty Girlboss Heroine™ all along?" (because Disney execs don't actually care about Wicked, they just saw Green, said "hey! if we can't get the real thing, why not use Our Own (and/or Public Domain) characters?" and simply followed the Marketing Department Road all the way to the bank).
Less funny is the fact they were so successful at it — regardless of the merits (or lack thereof) of any of those projects — that it ended up getting the production of the actual Wicked movie delayed by more than a decade (because it would ironically have looked like a copycat and probably faded into the background if it had come out back when Disney was pumping out knockoffs every fucking year).
#seriously though#wicked lived in bob iger's head rent free#like its insane the lengths they went to just to ride its coat tails#they made so much content that nobody thinks of them as brazen attempts to emulate wicked anymore#frozen / into the woods / oz the great and powerful / maleficent / cruella / descendants / once upon a time / etc.#and this isnt even speculation#the production teams have been open about this from the beginning#disney couldn't acquire wicked so they just used its keywords as a template for mass producing “original” projects#some of which went on to become among the most successful films ever made#like they really said “okay what if we just got idina menzel and hired a Broadway composer to give her a Defying Gravity” AND IT WORKED#wicked#wicked movie#disney#gelphie#elphaba x glinda#elphaba thropp#glinda upland#glinda x elphaba#elphaba#glinda#wizard of oz#the wizard of oz

ho-ly shit, this actually got finished. this was so much work for something that is so incredibly niche, but im so happy with it. this was SO MUCH FUN to come up with, to think of songs for each card, to slip in silly references and make my little border designs... thank you so much everyone else who has been enjoying these posts!

I have some unfortunate news.
While it's not confirmed either way yet, it is likely that Season 2 will be Earthspark's final season.
Recent information has shown that he show has been, to put it quite frankly, a flop. By their own fault, Hasbro has only lost money from it. Earthspark was badly marketed, had mediocre toys accompanying it, and was hardly ever advertised-- not to mention the major review-bombing done by transphobes online after their discovery of its queer representation. All of this makes it highly unlikely that Hasbro will even attempt to continue the show after Season 2. (Edit: Check reblogs for clarification.)
I'll keep you updated on any further information.

#yes#i know hes like#famous#or whatever#but i didnt think famous = being brought up in an assembly at my catholic school#it was a video of him talking about mental health and about having conversations about it#so it fit the subject matter#but it was still so weird#i mean she was a guest speaker#and also a pretty good one too???#like i will admit i went into it with low expectations#because my school doesn't have a great history with how they treat mental health#but the information she was giving was actually good and she didn't sugarcoat or gloss over things#and she didnt treat depression like its just “being sad” or like depression is the only thing that can affect a person's mental health#she also had support resources and one of them was the trevor project??#which was very very pleasantly surprising to see#i dont know if our school admin knew she was going to include that#either way it made me happy to see#but overall i'm still baffled at hearing the words “have any of you ever heard of markiplier before” at my school#markiplier#i don't really know what else to tag this as tbh

#ugh. fuck me im so tired. im getting sucked back into that workaholic mindset and now my body hurts and my nerves are fying. but it feels#good to b productive. if only i didnt have to teach and could just work with data :-(#anyway. the last 2 weeks have been good in that i feel like im actually hitting my stride a bit#bc we're seeing cool things in our genomes and its gonna b really fun to explore. and i met with the terrifying#prof who is on my committee to pitch a project for a final in her class and it seems it went over well. it was kinda funny bc we were#meeting and she was like: so how would u tell which gene was lost 1st? the phytochrome or the genes that r triggered by activation? and i#was like: uhhhhh idk. and then my advisor walked by and she grabbed him and asked him the same question and he was like: idk we'll have to#figure it out. which made me feel way better abt not knowing lol. then my superior lab mate asked me a question abt taking confocal images#and i was actually able to figure out what her issue was. and my old advisor was asking me if i knew anyone to ask for using a pam on cyanos#and i was like: here is what i think my advisor would say and linked her a paper. then i asked my advisor and he said what i expected and#linked the paper that id already sent. so im like. ok. ok. maybe i actually sometimes do kno what im doing. sorta.#and then my old advisor said she was so proud of me. and i was like aw. its so funny bc my relationship is so different with my new advisor#hes great but its all very professional. with my old advisor i would text her after hours bc she was a workaholic like me and went on long#car rides and handed out Halloween candy with her. she was more hands on and doesnt have kids so work is her life. its just interesting#so things have been going well. but there arent enough hours in the day. and my committee meeting is in like 16 days. and i am afraid for#that but not as afraid as i was in april when i had a full on breakdown and canceled it the day before it was set to happen lol#itll b fine. i just have to work thru the weekend so i can get my preproposal done. and prey that the fucking splitstree download site will#start working bc i want to do gene networks dammit#unrelated

this is such a good video PERFECTLY encapsulating why exactly so much of the hellaverse fandom is outrageously vitriolic. great analysis of the release structure and how that impacts fandom expectations. valid critiques but also an acknowledgement that hazbin/helluva are uniquely torn to SHREDS for things that they did not cause/are not the sole perpetrators of. highly recommend everyone check out this video as we get closer to hazbin's release
