A reminder for myself and other writers in the form of a Q&A style response:
My writing sucks
No it doesn't. Perhaps it is untrained, but it is never worthy of being degraded. The words you weave are a gift that you can cultivate. Never forget that.
What if people don't like my work?
Some people won't like it, and that is the way of things. But that is no reason to be afraid to make the lovely things you have in that marvelous brain of yours. No one else thinks like you do, and no one will ever make the thing you want the same way you could. There is no harm in making something, even if it is not received well. Perhaps someday someone will find themselves changed because of what you have brought into being.
Is it even worth it?
You decide if it has worth or not. Does it bring you joy? Does it increase your skill? Does it challenge you? Does it make you see the world in different ways? Are there people who are touched by it? You decide what makes your work worthwhile. Your life is your own, and no one can choose what should matter most to you. But with that said, every word you write is one step closer to mastery. Never give up because of a lack of engagement.
Are my ideas too crazy/niche?
You'll find your audience, regardless of what you create. There is a place for everyone, and while it is quite likely that farther thrown concepts won't find much ground in bigger fandoms or audiences, there will always be a few who appreciate it. Cherish those people.
I'm worried about my writing style/formatting.
Everyone has their own unique way of going about things. No two writers will ever be the same and that's fine. So long as your work fits into the grammar rules of whatever language you are writing in and doesn't look like a huge text block or otherwise makes no sense paragraph wise, it's probably fine. Most of the smaller issues can be hashed out through a quick chat with a beta reader or even a google search or two. Your style though? That's something you shouldn't stress. It will change as you do and readers will love or hate you for it. Tolkien and C.S Lewis had totally different ways of going about their work and both are beloved. Remember that you can be different too.
I should be writing an original work, not fanfic.
Writing an original work is a draining and monumental effort. Folks make it sound easy, but it isn't. Not usually. And you know what? That's perfectly fine. You don't have to get into writing and instantly whip up the next Harry Potter. In fact, most young writers who do get into things and try to go nuts end up burning out because they lose interest or are not quite skilled enough to bring their vision to life. Fanfiction is a brilliant training ground, a place to test new things, explore your interests through the use of premade templates and worlds, and otherwise begin to develop your style. There is no shame in learning through templates and prompt lists. Besides, if you get good enough at what you do, all your fanfic writing may bear fruit later down the line.
Have some faith in yourself writers. And do be sure to hydrate and take care of yourselves.

Patrick secretly fingerfucks you during the flight
Tumblr media
𝐏𝐀𝐈𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐆: Patrick Bateman x Fem!Reader
𝐖𝐀𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆𝐒: Fingering, teasing, nipple play, pet names, dirty talk, praise kink.
𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐊𝐒: [MASTERLIST]; [MY IMAGINES AND SHORT REQUESTS].
Tumblr media
How did you ever end up like this?
Trembling and fidgeting in your seat, you could barely breathe as Patrick pinched your hard nipple, his hand tucked under your soft sweater, and thank God you decided to ask a stewardess to bring you a blanket before the man started touching you here and there. Even though you were flying first class, it was hard to say that you had any privacy to do such things, but Bateman was relentless when it came to doing something obscene. Especially now, when you accidentally mentioned that you were afraid of flying.
With one hand around your shoulder, the man whispered sweet nonsense into your ear while his skilled fingers slowly unfastened your pants. "Next time we'll have a private jet to visit your family," he murmured, twirling your little peak between his fingers, causing you to bite your lower lip as you closed your eyes. "What would you say, sweetheart?"
But instead of saying anything, you just let out a muffled whimper that sent a jolt of pleasure right to his core and somehow the image of the two of you fucking in front of everyone in first class only fueled his carnal desire to own you right then and there. As soon as he managed to slip two fingers into your wet panties, you had to grab the armrest of your seat to regain some control, but when he started to rub your clit, spreading your wetness and teasing you in the most agonizing way, you were so close to collapsing, not sure if you would be able to stop yourself from moaning loudly.
Bateman sensed your tension almost immediately, and before you could make any provocative sounds, he covered your mouth with his own, drinking up any lewd sounds that threatened to escape. The people around you were oblivious to the debauchery going on right next to them, but it only added to the thrill.
"Can't really talk, huh?" Patrick crooned into your lips, his fingers slowly massaging your sensitive bundle of nerves in circular motions before switching to rubbing your oozing folds. "Do you know what I'd do to you if we were on a private jet right now?"
Panting, you opened your eyes and looked up at him—his predatory stare was stunning, to say the least. "What... what would you do?"
Your shaky voice elicited a low rumble from his rapidly rising chest. "First, I would spread you open for me so I could have a taste of every little inch of your body," Bateman rasped, watching you closely as his digits leisurely worked you up more and more, and though he didn't want to hurry, you were already too wet for him to stop himself. So when he shoved his fingers into your heat, they met with no resistance at all. "I'd give your pussy the attention it deserves."
"Oh God," you exhaled and frowned, your hands wrapped around his arm under the blanket as his movements became more and more demanding. Patrick literally wanted to make sure that you were focused only on the pleasure he was giving you and not worrying about the flight. "If you don't s-stop...mhmm-I'm going to cum..."
"You like to feel my fingers deep inside you, babygirl?" Patrick pecked your temple, using his other hand to squeeze the soft mound of your breast, then rolling your swollen nipple between his fingers with precise accuracy. "Imagine if we were alone now...think about that, darling," his voice was so gruff and hypnotic. "Think of my mouth all over your little...wet cunt...so fucking wet that my face is nothing but a mess."
The intensity of his fingers slipping in and out of your soaking slit was overwhelming in every possible and impossible way, for Bateman knew exactly how to make the friction feel so delicious as he curled his digits inside you, twisting them slowly at first, then more energetically as he felt your inner walls clench around him.
"Please," you begged suddenly, breathing so heavily that you were sure the people sitting behind you could hear it. "I can't...I can't take it anymore."
No matter how hard you tried to restrain yourself, that tingling sensation in your gut was something you couldn't control and Patrick knew how easy it would be for him to push you over the edge if he just thrust his fingers a little deeper until only the knuckles could be seen.
"Mhmm...look at you, taking my fingers so well," the man licked your earlobe before taking it in his mouth and grazing it just a little. "Let it go sweetheart, do it for me."
You wanted to scream. But that was not an option, so you had to cover your mouth with your palm as a white, blinding shock rippled through your system and Bateman wouldn't stop fingering you even if you were caught right now—he would let people watch you come undone. Just because no one could take that moment away from him—the moment when he brought you to the pinnacle of pure bliss..
And that was just the prelude to the main course.

Son-in-law Bonding
Jaune: So... Red Hood...?
Red Hood: Athena is just fine, Love.
Tumblr media
Jaune: So, Athena... Why... Why did you invite me out here?
Athena: Why? Well, because I wanted to test your blade.
Jaune: My blade? You were testing my potential as a Huntsmen?
Athena: Yeah. Pyrrha is a hell of a Huntress-in-training, she'll probably become more famous than myself when she become a full blown, Huntress.
Athena: I've had lots of people both after myself, and my daughter, trying to use our fame, or the power of our family supposedly has. I've started filtering out all the trash to keep their slimy little hands off of myself, and my daughter.
Jaune: Oh, thank you.
Athena: 'THank you?' For what?
Jaune: For looking after, Pyrrha such as you did.
Athena: Oh... Well, I just love my family... After losing my sister, and her husband, Pyrrha is all that I have left... So I'm going to do whatever I can to protect her.
Jaune: I understand, if someone hurt my family... Well as the saying goes: 'Demons run when a good man goes to war.'
Athena: I have certainly made my fair shar of demons run. IT's quite fun watching them run! Several of the poor bastards pissed themselves when I went after them~!
Jaune: Pfft! Now that must have been a sight to see.
Athena: Yeah after I threw one out of my house... from the second story window. They finally back off. Mostly. None of those bastards are worth me, or my daughter.
Jaune: And, what about me; Am I worth anything?
Athena: ...
Athena: When my daughter first mentioned you, I thought you were another sweet talker trying to steal my girl away from me. But, you never even knew who she was when you two first met. And, even after you got to know her you just treated her as your friend. And, when you started dating you were more concerned about her well being instead of your own. I always hopped she would find a friend like you, even more so now since she found a lover like you. You're worth your weight in gold, Jaune. I am honoured, and proud to have my daughter date a man such as yourself.
Jaune: O-Oh... Thank you... That means a lot to hear. Thank you, Athena.
Athena: My pleasure love.
Jaune: But, how am I as a Huntsman?
Athena: Well, Pyrrha told me how you cheated your way into, Beacon Academy.
Jaune: Ahh yeah... that happened...
Athena: Pretty ballsy of you kid. I admire that! You are still a bit green, but I can see you become one hell of a, Huntsman one day!
Jaune: Oh, thank you, Athena! That mean's a lot to hear from my childhood hero
Athena: I'll happily give you some training if your interested?
Jaune: I would love that!
Athena: Alright! Now it's time for some fun!
Jaune: F-Fun?
Athena: Yeah, you think me testing your skills as a Huntsman-in-training was the only reason why I asked you out here?
Jaune: Well... Yeah?
Athena: Well you're wrong! I asked you out here, because I wanted to test you out. Only this time without, Pyrrha around.
Jaune: Another training bout?
Athena: Something like that...
'Click.'
Jaune: Uhh... what are you...?!
'Boing~!'
Jaune: ...?!
Athena: Alright, Jaune ready for me to test out your 'blade~?'
Jaune: ...
Jaune: Aura don't fail me now.
Athena: Haha~!
Athena: Bring it on, Love~!
///
Here's another one, @lar-mx
Question: I'm callings this pairing of, Red Hood, and Jaune: Yellowhood. Does that sound good?

That comment about webcomics at the end was like an isekai truck in an open wound. But for real though everything about zines here is plain to see if you pay attention to the culture surrounding this topic, and similar patterns happening in other similar mediums.
Webcomics used to (and still technically do) have zero barrier to entry to draw one at any level of artistry, but you did have to code your own simple site which took some basic coding skills. But eventually you could upload them to an online artist community like dA, or free comics platforms like Smackjeeves or Comic fury or etc.
But deviantArt got sold and redesigned and fell out of wider relevancy, and the social media platforms we all migrated to were divided and not designed to actually get your comics onto relevant eyeballs.
Meanwhile Smackjeeves and other free comics platforms were driven out of the cultural consciousness by heavily commercialized platforms like Tapastic and Webtoons. (There are still some older ones around like Comic Fury!! Please go give their patreon your support!)
Now you can still put your webcomics on these newer sites for free, but smaller comics will be completely overshadowed by commercially-driven and standardized-formatted comics with relatively high quality with fast release schedules. Obviously they're all still "webcomics" but since the takeover by webtoons and tapas in the webcomics sphere of influence, I keep seeing/hearing artists say they don't know if they want to make webcomics cause they can't compete in the attention economy and subsequently can't make a living off of their works. (Also a personal gripe about these newer platforms, the artists are incentivized to make their comics formatted to be legible on phones??? because the phone apps are fostering an audience of readers that want to read comics on their phones?? The smartphone economy is wack.) The creativity of artists is stifled and molded to fit these new standards that make them more digestible for a very specific style of marketing.
And arguably even the people reading the comics suffer, because the artist is being pressured by these sites to work themselves to the bone to produce comics at a high rate, the quality of the webcomics ALWAYS begins to suffer as time goes on, and some webcomics even start to gate off access to later updates behind a paywall. This is how commercialization works.
Everybody suffers from the medium leaning more and more into becoming a commodified "product with the highest quality" and subsequently higher price point.
Smaller niche mediums always came into existence out of necessity and desire to exist in any way they can. The more we slip away from those roots that made it a desirable concept in the first place (affordable and accessible and easy-to-make) the more the term itself is diluted and the faster it drives itself to irrelevancy, until the concept itself vanishes from everybody's mind and subsequently we ALL lose access to a medium that used to be widely available.
Don't do that to zines, don't forget it's roots. Something like those simple instructions to make an 8 page zine out of a sheet of paper is how you keep a medium alive and well for all future generations of inspired youths. Not by gatekeeping OR diluting the term with semantics, but by never forgetting the word and it's roots and history.
It's the same for ttrpgs that can be played with pencil and paper, it's the same for passion-driven indie games on itch.io, and it's the same for ao3 fanfictions and the like, and you can go on and on with the examples. Don't get it twisted.
the whole point of a zine is that it's cheap to produce, amateur and homemade. if you're being asked to apply to participate in a print project, it is not a zine. if the final product is being printed and bound professionally, it is not a zine. if you are being asked to enter into any kind of licensing agreement more complex than "my work can be reproduced as part of this publication" it is not a zine. nine times put of ten if the final product costs more than $5 you have left zine country. im so serious about this.

Yap session about Sasha & Grime no one asked for: I really don't think Grime fully understood how young Sasha was until after he asked her to be his lieutenant. Frog and human development is REALLY different and he had no reference. He probably saw that Sasha had legs and a full head of hair and was taller than all the toads, and assumed she was at least older than a tadpole/young frog. Secondly, Sasha's behavior developmentally isn't normal. Like at all. The average 13 year old shouldn't be able to lie and manipulate people so easily and be GOOD at it. She was able to talk numerous guards into leaving and being on her side. Most teenagers do not have that ability unless they had to develop it out of necessity. Lastly, Sasha was so scared and guarded when she was in the prison cell in toad tower. She wasn't volunteering unnecessary information. And even the information from earth she did mention, Grime didn't understand it, like when she mentioned cheerleading (a sport associated with middle/high school girls on earth) and he didn't know what it was. I don't think he saw a child and wanted to take advantage of her manipulation skills and drive to find her friends. I think he legitimately saw her as a valuable asset and the perfect addition to his army he needed to squash the rebellion and get his soldiers into shape (something she was able to do before she was even allowed to leave). Obviously he did grow to legitimately care about her and learn more about her later on, but in the beginning of their allyship, he solely wanted to utilize her interpersonal skills and strength for his military. If I had to pinpoint the general time he realized she was actually a child, I would say he started to realize it during reunion when he watched things go down between her and Anne and she chose to fall, and then sometime after reunion but before toadcatcher, they had a genuine (well, as genuine as S2 Sasha can manage) conversation and he was like "well shit she's barely older than a tadpole". There is a noticeable shift in the way he treats her before and after reunion. During reunion, he coaches her like you would a soldier. In toadcatcher, he coaches her like you would a younger friend or family member you're worried about. Obviously, it was a piss poor idea to see this strange and insanely unhinged creature and immediately make her your lieutenant without asking any follow up questions, but I don't think he knew that she wasn't a full grown adult until at least post reunion and I don't think he used that to manipulate her to form an allyship with him.

thought dump about the mh wilds beta below the cut. I am playing in japanese with english subtitles on PS5; I play solo; I am, to nobody's surprise, maining the lance. Thought and opinions are in no particular order and kind of not fully coherent:
Settings stuff:
Even the largest HUD and text sizes are too small. Not everybody has a huge honkin screen. That being said, the accessibility settings that DO exist, I am very happy with. I was pleasantly surprised to see an option for dark background behind captions, which goes to show just how goddamn low the bar is LMAO
Slightly related: Sunbreak spoiled me rotten by letting me have total control over which HUD elements are on the screen at all.
PLEASE for the love of all that is good in this world, PLEASE LET US GET RID OF THE RADIAL MENU in the full game. I am the #1 radial menu hater of all time and I do NOT want it hijacking my camera movement.
Thank you capcom for letting me use O=confirm in a world where playstation stubbornly adheres to its pretentious little X button <3
General gameplay stuff:
Where are the ridiculous hairstyles. These people all look too Normal. TEETH OPTIONS????
NO MORE GENDER LOCKED BULL SHITT YEEEEHAAAAW
The story and characters are boring as dirt which is par for the course for MH, but man is it a teensy bit embarrassing how hard they're trying to push it.
THE WORLD FEELS SO ALIVE!! I love seeing packs of both small AND large monsters living in their environments. Everything is so detailed and the map is immense, but not so huge that it's completely overwhelming.
Giving the hunter and palicos voice lines is an affront to gog.
Slinger. eeeugh. It's fine I guess, I just would rather not have it at all. I am a cultured hunter who prefers to fling hot dung with my bare hands
Oh Sweet Lord They're Making Me Pick Dialogue Options In A Monster Hunter Game
WHYYYYY with the always online thing? what is the obsession with this from triple-a devs???? "Online single player" should not be a thing, let alone the last option on the list. What happened to just single player. NO I DO NOT WANT TO USE AN SOS FLARE. Hello can anyone hear me
They did confirm that there will be a pause button in the full game. Right? God I hope so
HOOO BOY I hope they do some major adjustments to the Seikret movement in the full release. Even with the discrete analog stick movement setting on, it's so uncooperative at times. HATE how hard the game tries to make automatic movement happen. I want manual control at all times, and auto-running is not the convenience they think it is. Frustrating enough that I found myself avoiding riding the Seikret on some hunts.
I understand wanting to have a seamless open world experience but man... the lack of any strong distinction between hub and quest, and the fact that you don't just automatically return to the hub after the hunt, is really screwing with my head. It feels wrong and not in a "just give it some time you'll get used to it" kind of way.
LANCE:
Lance feels pretty good in this game!! The shield is very reliable even without any relevant armor skills. I love the finishers they added to the end of the classic 3-poke combos. Gives it just the right amount of extra zest without going overboard.
i won't lie though. i miss sunbreak lance's stupid overpowered shield hop -> leaping thrust combo. even if it's probably for the best that it's gone :(
Counterattacking feels off?? Like it's hard to tell when an attack just connected with my shield, there isn't a strong enough punch to it. Is this the "floatiness" that people were complaining about in the last beta test? Because I totally get it.
Also I have never had any trouble in any prior MH game with cancelling out of the dash attack. Why is it suddenly SO difficult to stop dashing. Petty whiny add-on: let me do the shield dash instead pleeeease pretty please
Combat in general feels kind of weird... I think it's because of the emphasis on realism? I'm perfectly fine with sluggishness in my monhun weapons, but this just feels bogged down. Thought I was going crazy until I tried the hunting horn (another main of mine from GU and Sunbreak) and sheathe->normal running was significantly faster than self-improvement's running speed, which is.... yikes............
side note: gypceros is just as obnoxious as he has always been! A+

What is this man!? Or: Me Overthinking Reigen's Fighting Ability, lol
Reigen Arataka. 28 years old. Used to be a normal salaryman. Runs Spirits and Such Consultations and is the self-proclaimed "Greatest Psychic of the Twenty-First Century.
Where did he learn to dropkick a bitch?
No, seriously. Where did he learn half the shit he does. Sure, you can explain his punches as something he can learn with his green belt, but not the fact that not only did he dropkick someone, he rebounded and landed on his feet. That is almost some Dimple level acrobatics for someone without any supernatural abilities or enhancements.
Sure, we can chalk it up to anime logic all we want, but that's not as fun, so I'm going to ramble and overthink instead. (As I do.)
Disclaimer: Some spoilers for later events in the show.
Okay, so. Reigen has a surprisingly large repertoire of skills. Some of this I can chalk up to his family life.
His father is apparently a local politician/civil servant, his mother a housewife, and his sister a bank employee.
Clearly Reigen gets his speech skills from his father, and maybe some of his other tricks, like using rice as glue, may even be from his mother. Granted I'm probably stretching that a bit. He could have just as easily learned that from trying to save money, lol.
We also know he didn't fit in while in school, which, as we all know, can lead to instances of bullying. Whether that bullying is physical or not, who knows. All I've seen looking around is that he apparently got skipped over when it came to games and stuff, but there could have been more to it.
Where am I going with this? You'll see.
So, the green belt. We know from season one that Reigen specifically says he has a green belt in shorinji kenpo. Now, I will be the first to admit I don't know much of anything about martial arts on a deep level. I can, however, do some quick research *cough* google *cough* (Do you think Reigen would be proud of me, lol).
According to what I've found, a green belt in a number of martial arts can be anywhere from beginner to a beginner-intermediate or even intermediate level. It depends on the martial art of course, but I think also the school. The same seems to apply to what I could find on shorinji kenpo. Or Kempo, because that's what I keep finding, someone please correct me if need be. I think people have also called it Xiaolin Martial Arts, which I also took a brief look at, but the concept appears similar there as well. Now, let's give Reigen the benefit of the doubt considering what we've seen him actually do, and assume the man went to a pretty decent school. A green belt is clearly not a master level or even a high level belt. If anything, though, this means the man can handle a regular petty thug just fine, and we've seen that. The seance scene in season 1 by itself proves that easily.
However, it's the other stuff that makes me wonder.
Again, this man drop kicked a dude, an esper that was currently using his power by the way, then rebounded off him to land on his feet. Beyond the dropkick itself, which from what I understand is impractical in a fight, he also rebounded. Rebounding can be hard to do off a stationary object, let alone a person. Yet here Reigen is, doing it causally off an esper that controls gravity.
Tumblr media
His punches are also pretty damn devastating. Again, he can knock people out. He did this during the seance, but then tried it on Muraki. While he didn't knock him out, he definitely did some damage.
Tumblr media
Not only would he need to be strong to do this, he'd also need to be fast. He's also fast enough that someone like Suzuki had to make a clone of himself to dodge Reigen's fist, rather than block or just dodge it normally. Either Suzuki was feeling extra that day (much to Sho's chagrin) or Reigen caught him off guard enough he actually had to use his powers.
Tumblr media
This brings me to the next point.
Reigen knows how to hold a gun.
No, no. Wait, hear me out. Yes, I know it's a toy gun, but it is still a toy gun supped up on psychic energy. Not only does Reigen hold it nice and steady, he's got some damn good aim. That shot went for Suzuki's face or at least his throat.
Tumblr media
Now, granted, I hear airsoft is a popular past time in Japan, so maybe that's where some of it comes from, which is still pretty neat.
He also didn't hesitate to shoot. One look at Mob and he pulled the trigger. Suzuki got one warning before that, and he didn't even get the chance to defy it before Reigen shot. Now, Reigen is a smart man, he probably figured the gun wouldn't work, but damn if he didn't try. Honestly, he was probably panicking and kicking himself on the inside, but he certainly didn't show it.
There's also the fact that, when you look, Reigen almost always instinctively knows to protect his head and neck when he gets thrown around. It's probably the most obvious in the Mogami fight when he gets picked up and slammed, but you can see it in the final episode as well when getting flung around by ???'s tornado.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This man has either gotten enough sparring that he knows to do this on instinct, or he's been in enough scraps that he's had no choice but to learn or get concussed. Also, in the Mogami arc, Reigen tries to stop Mogami (in Minor's body) by kicking him in the head. Mogami was moving very fast, but Reigen's kick did land.
Tumblr media
Too bad it was Mogami and not any one else because it might have worked.
He also knows a couple knee strikes, which again was used on a moving target.
Now, let's step back and bring up Reigen's family again. There's always the possibility that Reigen got his green belt young due to his father's occupation. Now, that might only apply if his father was a rather important one, but still something to consider. It could have also been in self-defense if the bullying he faced in school got physical. I personally think Reigen got his green belt at an older age, earliest highschool, but obviously there's nothing to back that up. It also makes me wonder just how many of his clients have gotten violent, because while he did flinch at the knife during the seance, he also didn't hesitate to deck the dude.
This doesn't even bring up the fact that Reigen knows all kinds of massage techniques (I heard that his family wanted him to be a massage therapist, but I don't know if it was said where that information came from), psychology, his ability to cold read people, and everything else this man does.
Granted, a lot of his effectiveness comes from him being smart and charismatic. This man is a manipulator and thank god he's got morals because holy hell the damage he could do being able to manipulate Mob.
Or the damage Mob could do if anything serious happened to Reigen. >.>;
All in all, I think Reigen has gotten into way more scraps than is suggested. I feel as if he might have had a rougher life at school than what little hints we've gotten. That whole thing with the Separation Arc felt kind of like him projecting onto Mob, but I could be wrong. Personally, I headcanon Reigen as being something of a truant and/or delinquent (or at least a gremlin) when he was younger, but that's just me, lol. I do think he's had a rougher go of it than he likes to tell, though.
I know I didn't cover absolutely everything here, like Shimazaki, and that there's probably more context or something in the manga, but this post was already long enough and I haven't read the manga in full yet so apologies if there is missing context.. If you made it to the end of this post, I want to both thank you, but also apologize for my long winded rambling, lol. I just - Have no idea what to make of Reigen and all that he does. It doesn't help that a lot of his backstory is fairly non-existent. We only know tidbits about this conman, but I guess that's part of what makes him interesting.
Well, hopefully you had fun reading this post as much as I had making it. I know most of this can probably be just anime logic, but I had looking into it at least! If this wasn't a world of espers, Reigen would probably fairly formidable in a fight, on a physical level anyway. He's already like that on several others already, lol. This sweaty rat just always seems to grab my attention. . .

So I'm a gay man from a completely different part of the world from any of you, and so I don't have much insight into the dating culture of the US because I've never participated in it - or dating culture at all, really. Nonetheless, I'm gonna leave my two cents on this under the cut. Feel free to ignore them if you'd prefer to.
what's essential is understanding that other people including women are full humans just like you, who matter just as much as you.
I'm mostly sure OP already understands that. There's no indication that he doesn't, at least. In either case, this is by your own admission the bare minimum. We both know that the bare minimum isn't gonna cut it here.
there are so many women who are out there who want a guy who is caring and on top of his shit. like the bar is so low for some women, it's not hard to clear it.
See, showing other people that you're caring is hard, especially when you're showing it with the intention of pursuing them romantically - which, let's not kid ourselves, is the intention here. Even if you do mange to convey that - again, it's still only the bare minimum. It's good, sure, but not enough.
less dating apps, more befriending all sorts of people through hobbies and volunteer work.
"Befriend" is the key word here. Dating people you were friends with befrehand is complicated to say the least, we could have an entire separate thread about it, but to summarize my outlook I think it's half a matter of luck and half one of finesse. If you don't do everything exactly, perfectly right, it can easily end with both of you sad, angry and potentially traumatized - and it will be your fault, not in the sense you'll be blamed for it, but in that it'll be objectiely your fault.
figure out what you have to offer to the world, offer it, people will take notice.
Sure, they might. If they do though, will anyone want it? If they want it, why would they not seek it from someone else? Someone who's been doing it for longer, who's more skilled at it, or who's just got more to offer besides it? Just "having something to offer" isn't good enough, it's the bare minimum.
There's nothing you can offer that can't be easily found somewhere else. It doesn't matter who you are, there's always gonna be a billion other people exactly like you except better. And what, you want somebody else to settle for you when it'd be easier, less risky and more gratifying to just look for somoene better instead? That's selfish. I'm not being coy here, it is objectively, undeniably selfish to want that. I do need this to be clear: I'm not blaming anyone other than OP/the hypothetical man this advice is aimed at in this scenario.
it also really really sucks for straight women, my god does it suck ass. you need to understand the ways it sucks for women before you can improve your game, btw.
I mean, I think the ways it sucks are fairly obvious. A lot of people do it but at least for me it's kind of hard to ignore the murders, rapes and domestic abuse. By all means seek to understand them and work to not perpetrate them, but "Don't be a piece of shit" really doesn't paint a very clear picture of what, specifically, you're supposed to do beyond that point.
so many people want out of the box and are out of the box. go befriend and dare them.
If you pardon me being cynical (it's sort of my gimmick, if you couldn't tell), what reason do the people out of the box have to give some dumbass newcomer who just crawled out of the box the time of day? Just thinking "out of the box" isn't enough. It's the bare minimum. It's still just objectively not good enough.
you've set up an equation that means that you must always lose, and it's the type of equation that is primed to make you hate women.
I mean yes and no? From what I understood, one of the equation's components is "if a man fails to find a relationship, the failure is all his". If you interpret this as a false preconception that the world around you holds then yeah I can see how it'll lead down that path, but if you interpret it as true then at worse it'll just lead to hating oneself. Not ideal no, but at least no women are impacted as a result.
this equation is false, and based on false premises, that you and a ton of men and women think is gospel.
It depends on how you define false, really. If we go by objective, observable reality then actually both the presented equations are false and all human interaction is nothing but the absurd acts of chemicals (this is what I believe, to put all my cards on the table).
If you wanna be less Reddit-ey about it though, one could easily argue that - because "the equation" is, consciously or otherwise, upheld by the majority of the population (at least the ones involved in the straight dating scene anyway), then it's true in the sense that it is the social norm that you're expected to abide by. You can say it's morally wrong, sure, but it's still just as "true" as things like dining etiquette and formal grammar.
Feel free to ignore dining etiquette all you like, but you're gonna get a lot of mean looks from relatives and restaurant staff.
one of your falsities is that straight and bi women don't like feminine men. this is patently false. have you met a goth woman? have you met a woman who is in fandom? they are jerking it to the most pathetic and wet sissy rat men.
Fictional men and real men are radically different. For starters, fictional men are just plainly easier to grow emotionally attached to because they come with none of the... "Baggage", for the lack of a better word, and just because someone thinks baby-faced white twinks (because make no mistake, that is what 99.5% of fandom, regardless of gender, imagines when they hear the words "feminine man") look hot on TV doesn't mean they'd ever want to actually date one. Hell, even baby-faced white twinks are becoming kinda passé. Himbos are all the rage right now and I'm sorry but the average guy just isn't himbo material.
Another reason you shouldn't use people's attractin to fictional characters as a baromater is because fictional characters are just kind of... Innately superior to real people, in the sense that it's much easier to glance over all the less palatable aspects of their characters and focus exclusively on the aspects that appeal to you. You can't really do that with a real person.
This is of course not even taking cultural differences into account. I am gay myself and even I'm afraid of presenting as femininely as I'd like to beause (body image issues nonwithstanding) I live in rural Brazil and that's just not socially accepted here, be it by women or men. If I were a straight guy and I did try being A Little Gender and Gay I'd get rightfully told to go fuck myself.
So for my conclusion, I definitely don't know enough about the topic to say whether or not you're right about it, but the advice offered is only a basic foundation that only really helps if you've already got okay to good social skills - which let's be honest, just doesn't describe most men, straight or otherwise.
Even if a guy does every single thing you've advised here though, all he'll have accomplished is... Being a sort of okay guy, maybe. That's a good start for sure but even then you're still gonna fall short. You're still not gonna be interesting, or special, or exciting... Or good enough. And in my experience, if you aren't these things already, you'll probably never be.
TL;DR, here's my point: I think your advice is ultimately harmless, but commits the usual error of only providing a semi-real sense of hope. I'm willing to bet a lung that you and your casanove friends all have much, much more to offer to potential partners than anyone in this thread has or ever will have... And that's kinda the problem. The harsh reality you're avoiding is that some people aren't meant to find love - and if you haven't already found it, that probably includes you.
For what it's worth, I do at least have a boyfriend. We'll probably never meet IRL, but it's good enough for me. Maybe the real lesson OP and other guys should learn is how to acept the cards you've been dealt.
I looked at this thread
Tumblr media
and it's another signal from the world of something like "sociosexual realism". Which is like, feminism or whatever told us that men and women were equally agentic, but unfortunately it was lying, and actually it's men's responsibility to be seductive, and if they fail at that then TFR goes down and the Amish win.
It's not just the thread, a lot of relationships and dates make me feel this way.
I'm stuck believing this unpleasant belief. What am I missing? Is the world not like that?

ok so originally i tacked this on as a rb to this post abt shawn spencers true calling as a stay at home girldad but then i decided its my blog i can do what i want so im making it its own post. obligatory disclaimer, i love the movies, this is not a dig at their choices, etc etc. anyway. i need to lay out my Vision to the people in a formal capacity
shawn needs a baby because psych was his baby
hear me out
i wont get into like, the thematic/narrative reasons why shawn and jules should have a kid to subvert their mutual Fear of Becoming Their Parents growth, bc that's a whole other dimension that requires its own post. i wont even mention how many times shawn talks about wanting kids in general. but purely based on the narrative role that psych as an agency played in shawn & gus's lives:
psych starts out as shawn and gus embarking on this big adventure that's an actualization of their childhood dreams. from the get go, gus has a day job; psych is an initially just fun, then great and meaningful thing he does in addition to that day job. on the other hand, psych is shawn's main Thing. it's his only real outlet (if we don't count the random 2-day long jobs he does for the bit) and full concentration point for all his energy, creativity, caring, and altruistic impulses. its the first time in his life he's ever committed to a job -- responsibility, long-haul endeavor, whatever -- that uses his skills, intelligence, and compassion in any kind of lasting way.
over the course of the show, shawn and gus's relationship to psych shifts and changes, and it becomes increasingly evident that shawn's personal relationship to psych is a representation of selfless versus selfish motivation within him. as he matures, he's less inclined to use it as a way to prove himself or show off or mask his personal insecurities/arrogance. he becomes more overtly reliant on it as what it was meant to be along: a way for him to help others.
obviously, the boys' evolving relationship with each other, shawns evolving relationship with juliet, and, critically, shawns evolving relationship with his dad are all key mediating variables in his maturation and subsequently his relationship with the business. parallel themes of commitment and responsibility -- shawn proving to his dad that he can be genuinely responsible for something as big as other peoples' well being and shawn proving to juliet that he's capable of committing to her long term -- run and grow here. imo a point where u really see all this exemplified is his willingness to give psych up to earn back juliet's trust in s7.
through all of this, gus still has a day job. that's not to say psych isn't also a hugely important part of his life and key factor in his own growth and maturation, but it's not the focus of his whole life, because gus has always operated with relative (relative ...) moderation. the peak of gus's growth is realizing that what was most important to him all along was being able to live life with the people he loves (shawn) at his side, even if it meant everything was chaotic and messy and imbalanced all the time. his last act of maturation was leaving behind stale security to bravely dive into the sincerity-filled unknown.
shawn on the other hand is fundamentally an obsessive person who will latch onto something and put 112% effort into that thing for as long as it holds his attention, and the show demonstrates to us that very very few things have been able to hold his attention for very long -- except psych. and despite the fact that this tendency changes in his personal relationships, it never really demonstrably changes in his ... employment habits.
we arrive at the end of the show. shawn gives psych up to move to san francisco to be with juliet (again; the selflessness). gus moves with him (again; the growth). so what now?
once again, their detective work does not pay many bills, so gus has his day job. but even with all of his growth, shawn spencer is not a day job kind of guy. juliet is extremely employed, of course (no one even slightly less employed than her could be with shawn long term, employment being not necessarily literal but a spiritual state that gus, too, possesses in spades). it's here that i posit that shawn's psych replacement has to be a baby.
thematically, he's left psych behind. whether or not he does still do detective consulting work is immaterial; psych in its original form has been irrefutably outgrown. he's in a different phase of life now, one that is explicitly marked by his commitment to juliet (who incidentally is the way she is because she never had a father who put her first). if we're going to continue the story, shawn and gus need another big adventure: one that will help them grow in this phase of life just like psych helped them in the last one. given how significant shawn's healing relationship with his dad & realizing how much of who is is comes from his dad was over the course of the series, AND given how raising a child is probably one of the biggest and scariest responsibilities an adult can take on (plus see jules note above), what better great adventure for shawn and gus to embark on than fatherhood?
as with before, gus will be a pharmaceutical salesman on the side, while the more interesting, exciting, meaningful work he does is Being Dad. gus has his baby first, because unlike before, he's comfortable tackling the scary and unpredictable without reservation from the outset.
and, as with before, shawn's kid will be his whole world.
like i said: narratively, shawn does not need a another job. he needs a baby. he needs to be a part time p.i., full time stay at home dad, who is totally, delightfully, chaotically, sincerely obsessed with that kid.
do all these points lead us to believe he'll have a "balanced" approach to parenthood? no way. is this a "healthy" dynamic to have with one's child? unclear. will there be multiple catastrophes along this great journey? undoubtedly. no one ever said he doesn't still need to go to therapy. BUT. 1) shawn's always been intense. we know this. we love this! we wouldn't want to change this about him. 1b) he loves the way his dad loves, and i'd personally be really interested to see a version of that love that's been tempered by shawn's growth and has (correctly) improved on henry's parenting style while retaining the obvious love and devotion. and 2) gus and juliet are right there with him! henry did not have a gus and juliet! everything will be fine!
finally, psych is a story about learning to be brave. all of the characters are forced to learn this, in a multitude of different ways. for shawn, a lot of his fears do stem from his relationship with his dad. having a kid would be his final boss battle! and i for one believe that he can win!
idk. i just think it fits so well. shawn as a dad would be imperfect, messy, sometimes disastrous, and full of love and sincerity -- just like psych was.
has to be a girl tho. amen

"Oh yeah, they love you."
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(REQUESTS OPEN) Heyy :) I've had a little idea in my head for a while now about Jinx; so I thought I should write about it. Let's say the reader and Jinx met when she snuck onto one of the blimps, going to Ionia. Anyway, reader is from Ionia and worked making deliveries to Piltover, Noxus, etc, etc. She knew of Jinx through small mentions of the people in small town, though instead of wanting to imprison her, like most of the people in Piltover would've wanted... she welcomed her, gave her a place to stay, and with that, the small community near reader's home, helped her heal. I don't know how accurate this is to League lore ig? But bare with me okay I've never touched the game once in my life 😭
Tumblr media
Jinx wasn't the easiest person to love, but that didn't make it impossible. There were moments of distance, where Jinx would push you away, needed time to herself to think, and to process. But it was never very long until you'd find her, sat beside a gentle stream of water, her bare feet dipped under the crystal liquid.
Her smoky pink eyes dulled, and for a moment they almost seemed a subtle shade of blue. You caught yourself gazing it her, like a moth to a flame, but at this point, who wouldn't? To see someone who was always on some sort of edge, some sort of high, so... calm. It was a sight to see. She was dressed in a long maxi skirt, it was one you'd given to her to borrow, and yet she'd never given it back; though, you didn't mind. Over it, was a cloak. Slightly ripped, but you'd helped her stitch, and patch it back to a comfortable state. And her hair, over the years had grown a decent amount, now fallen just past her collarbone. "How long are you going to stare for...?" Jinx murmured, her eyes lifting to meet yours. Her expression was unreadable, and yet still the furthest thing from the broken look it used to hold. You felt your face heat up a little, a gentle crimson colour freckling over the tips of your ears, and brushing over the end of your nose. "Ah, sorry." You chuckle, a noticeable tremble in your voice. You sat beside her with a small smile, inviting yourself down onto the soft grass. A couple flowers folding under you. Jinx hummed, her lips tugging upward for a moment as she shrugged, and yet her eyes remained blank and barren. "What's got you in such a go-lucky mood?" Jinx inquired, cupping her hands and scooping up some water from the stream, dipping her head and rinsing it through her side bang.. washing out some old paint. The kids here loved to pester her, which usually ended in them convincing her to do their face paint. And to no surprise, always resulted in mess. "Me? Nothing," You giggle, turning your gaze to the small town in the distance. "Just... happy you're fitting in." You finish, turning to look back at Jinx. Jinx met your glance, her bang falling over her face in a kind of fringe... She ran her slender hand through it, moving the blue locks out of her vision. "You think so...?" Jinx asked; though, in place of her usual teasing manner, was a sincere question. "Oh yeah, the kids love you." You answer without having to think. You didn't hesitate, not even for a second. And it was certainly not a lie. Although Jinx's rough past, she'd made a huge difference here in this side of Ionia. A good difference. Jinx had helped you deliver cargo to Noxus, and stayed back to help harvest whatever was necessary when you'd go to Piltover. She'd use her old skills in tinkering to make toys for the children, little wind up monkeys, or even as far as vibrant face paints for special events. Children practically swarmed around her in the holidays. and despite Jinx's awkwardness around them, she still managed to have a soft spot for their playful tendencies. It was a welcomed change, Jinx was healing. "Oh," Jinx blinked, even after all those little moments of connection with the community here. She'd never considered they actually... liked her. You gave her an affectionate nudge on the shoulder, a shit eating grin on your face. "You're doing good, I'm proud of you." You mutter, your tone was softer now— as if to prove your words held truth. Jinx's brows furrowed, and her eyes remained fixated on the water that lapped over her ankles. Yet, before she could muster the words to respond to the praise; you pressed a kiss to her cheek. A chaste show of your love; something still fresh between you two, but more than obvious by now. Jinx went a little rigid, but quickly relaxed. A soft heat forming over her cheeks. She'd never admit how much these moments meant to her. Her and her sanity.
Tumblr media
I hope this was okay! I really enjoy writing my version of Jinx. And I hope you enjoyed reading about her! Let me know if you have any requests or questions! My inbox is always open <3

@fhfnejd @alwaysstreetsahead thank you for caring 🥺😭😥 here is part 2. Going more in depth.
I think the main reason why I'd struggle to be friends with everyone is because of the timing. The best way I could describe it is if you wanted to make friends with a stranger at a funeral. Like, you know you're never gonna see them ever again, but the timing to make friends is SO BAD.
I'd also like to add that I have like 0 social skills online and irl, so there's that. I overthink, get intimidated easily, and I always wonder if my friends are actually my friends. Like.. lukewarm friends aren't a consept to me. You're either a friend, or not.
First off, Luke:
I feel like he already has such a disconnect with everyone at camp except for Annabeth. He probably saw everyone as a duty or a responsibility. He'd probably be nice to me, as he was nice to pretty much everyone, even Percy. He literally stole stuff just for him. But I feel like I'd wonder if he'd see me as a friend, which probably wouldn't make me think we were. We could bond over parent stuff cuz duh, but then again, I don't think we'd be close so I wouldn't consider him a friend.
Next, Percy. He gives off not the energy I'd vibe with. He's.. mischievous? Trickster-y? Not necessarily a person I'd gravitate toward. I'd probably avoid him. But if I didn't avoid him, again, I'd probably feel bad for trying to comr up to him when he's mourning over the loss of his mom. Then of course after TLT he's like super popular and busy and stressed. I don't think I'd have the courage to walk up to someone like him. He's charismatic and charming. Not a person I'd feel comfortable yapping my interests to.
Annabeth: knowing Athena kids and their fatal flae of pride, I'd probably.. really dislike her? I'd feel threatened and unhappy. But again if I wanted to walk up to her, she's again super intimidating. She's an amazing strategist and fighter even before the og series. Like.. i know for a fact that I'd suck at everything demigodly, (despite the quiz saying im an athena kid, which NO I WANNA BE A HERMES KID, I AM NOT SMART) and i don't think Annabeth would want to be friends with me. She also just seems really cold. I feel like what would happen is that we'd meet at the arts and crafts area or library, and she'd either look very busy, or if I tried to talk to her, she would probably look uninterested and I'd overthing, causing me to ignore her forever (EVEN IF THE QUIZ SAYS SHE'S MY SISTER)
Jason: there are 2 ways we could go about this. Either im a roman camper or a greek camper. Let's start with roman
Roman- if I was a Roman camper, I assume I'd be put in the worst cohort. Perfect since Jason belongs there. BUT! Knowing his reputation, he'd probably really intimidate me. Like yeah, he tried his goddamn best to be down to earth, but I have the strange feeling that he'd be.. like Mai from ATLA? Just, trying his best to be down to earth and normal, but also walking a tightrope to use his power and influence to make things better. He has to be rigid and stiff for people to respect him enough to make changes. Like.. maybe I'd be friends with him, but I try really really hard to be friends with someone. This might cause him to think that I have bad intentions when in reality, im just insecure. He'd probably be friends with me, because I know I'd be like at the very bottom of the rank, but then again, i feel like I'd worry if our friendship was genuine.
Greek- If I was greek, I'd probably just seem him come into camp one day using the roman names of the gods. Which probably would put me off, but i don't think it would stop me from wanting to be friends with him. I just think that with him being all busy with the quest and stuff, that I'd have no time to get to know him and that I'd still probably be intimidated by him. If not by him, then I'd probably be scared of Piper hating me for wanting to be friends with him.
Piper: Knowing me, I'd probably try to make friends with Jason first. This could make her potentially dislike me. But if I didn't, I don't know if I'd have enough in common with her to be friends with her. Just thinking about her character, I don't know if she'd be willing to listen to be ramble about random things. It'd probably be like with Annabeth, where I try to talk to her, then I end up not knowing how to continue the conversation, and then overthink causing me to just completely avoid her.
Leo: I might actually become friends with Leo, assuming he isn't stuck in his cabin? Like.. he seems funny, and I know for a fact that I'd see through his facade cuz I RELATE BRO. Like, I may not know WHY, but I know we'd relate to each other. He seems charming enough for me to want to get to know him, but also not very cold or judgemental, which may make me inclined to talk to him. I just don't know if we'd have much of a friendship cuz duh, main characters have too interesting of lives and basically forget friendships with characters that aren't main characters. :(
Frank: Frank seems to be.. normal and approachable. Like.. he doesn't strike me as a person whp would judge me for being weird. And I feel like we'd relate to not associating with our godly parents. Like i took the quiz and got Athena, but i associate more with hermes. Because strategy n stuff, i suck at, but Luke in TLT described Hermes kids as jacks of all trades and masters of none, which feels perfect for me. Just like how Frank felt like he didn't fit in with the typical child of Mars stuff and preferred to be seen as a child of Apollo.
Hazel: She also seems like Frank, very sweet and nice and normal. She doesn't seem like she'd judge me. She might scare me a bit because she can be very strong, but hey, that just means that if she saw me feeling insecure about my friendship with her, she'd reassure me strongly.
Grover: I might become friends with Grover? The only thing is that I wonder if I'd feel secure. Because like.. what if he only became friends with me because of his job of being a protector?
Silena: I think I'd become friends with her. She just seems like a sweet person. All she wants to do is make things better. Especially with the Aphrodite rite of passage. She seems to be a good person who will do the right thing when it's needed.
Will: I don't know, because again, he has so many responsibilities. He'd probably intimidate the hell out of me. And the timing too! I could have made friends with him in like.. TTC? But.. I dunno.
Nico: HOW WOULD I MAKE FRIENDS WITH THIS GUY?? HE'D SCARE THE HELL OUT OF ME. Like.. there's a chance that I'd want to be friends with him. He's a loner, im a loner, it makes sense. But also.. i imagine him to just look constantly unhappy. I feel like I'd fear him getting angry at me. I'd probably try to talk to him about.. something? Maybe something nerdy if I snooped enough to know that about him? But I really don't know if he'd be willing to listen to me talk about Superman for 2 hours.
Reyna: Reyna is just like Jason. She's just.. so stiff and rigid. Like.. she just looks so intimidating. Assuming im a roman in this scenario, when she first gets to camp, she's probably already very skilled. I could have tried making friends with her, but then again, she was like Jason. A perfect candidate to be preator. Someone who is seen like that is very responsible, very put together. Aka, the perfect person to scare me away and make me feel self-conscious. I'd probably have a better chance making friends with Jason compared to Reyna.
Rachel: There's just no way. She's like.. a minor celebrity or something? Rich and powerful and an activist. I could very well have become friends with her talking about activism stuff, but she's also rich and well, she just seems like a person who'd make me insecure again.
Thalia: There is literally no time in which a regular camper could talk to Thalia. She gets revived then is sent on a mission to get Nico and Bianca. Then there's the whole quest in TTC then she becomes a hunter. WHERE IN THAT TIME AM I, A REGULAR CAMPER SUPPOSED TO TALK TO HER?? Also she's punk.. I feel like she'd scare me away. Like.. maybe I'd think really hard to talk to her. But then i feel like a convo with her might fizzle out and make me overthink again.
Is there anyone im missing? I really dunno if I should make a part 3 lol

I blurred some text in your message Anon, the parts that are complete nonsense and has nothing to do with what's going on at all. I don't like that on my blog. (no offense to you, I know you were quoting)
I know where this comes from, it are comments on a post of sgiandubh, i know someone in that thread even suggested which pic it was, but it seems they insist on some kind of narrative. (I haven't read all the comments, for a good reason)
First, yes it was a post on FB, I found the post. Recently, well actually already longer, you can see the most idiotic posts on FB. It always amazes me that people seriously comment on these fake accounts. It's a complete mess on FB, countless fake accounts. Not only Sam but his family as well. It's despicable and people should just realize when they comment on it, these fake accounts thrive on it.
Anyway, this is the post that is talked about.
Tumblr media
Indeed a scammer and those comments were there as well. (will not post all the comments on that FB post, as many already wrote in the comments that it was an old pic from last year
Tumblr media
But as you can see the scammer tried to lead the fans to some shop to buy merch, and get an easy $$$
Tumblr media
As for the comments, like I said many already posted it was an older pic, taken in October at Soso's in NYC during OL promo. Even naming the correct people in the pic, John Bell, Sophie, Sam and Sammy (fiancée of RR) (RR took the pic, as he posted it in his stories back then.) See this post
The horrible comments on that FB post, indeed:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not posting all the comments, if you want to see things for yourself, this is the link
Anyway clearly scam, so why on earth the account that left a comment on the post of SD thought she needed to invent a whole story with people who weren't there at all and denying the people that were actually in the picture.... beats me....
What beats me even more, when someone in that thread suggests very politely that this sounds like the picture she describes accurately, she gets no as an answer from SD. Who apparently was way too busy with calling Caitriona's husband the most horrible names, and calling me a liar. (my gosh, talk about obsessed!!!!) instead of taking the time to look things up (as she's so skilled in it, per her own saying (yes this is sarcasm)) and not spreading nonsense on her blog. (and no I will not use yellow highlights)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But yeah, think she might have something to write again in her colorful language painting me black and calling me obsessed and a liar....

"I'm such a failu-u-ure," Nirei whines, looking at his exams papers, red marks scattered all over the sheets, which makes Nirei feel even smaller than he already is.
Sakura turns his head with loud crack and stares at him as if Nirei just said something inherently stupid and blatantly untrue. what a bullshit, hie eyes say. Nirei is, actually, more worried about Sakura's neck — it sounded like his friend just broke his spine and now is refusing to move because of the shock he's fallen into.
they stare at each other for quite some time.
Nirei is sort of curious what will happen next, watching how Sakura's expressions change from furious to calm to embarrassed to confused to lost, eventually freezing in some mixture of all of them. quite a grotesque image, to be honest.
Sakura sharply exhales.
"you," his voice is insanely heavy and firm, and Nirei straightens up in an instant, feeling his shoulders and back protesting against such an abrupt movement. "you are not."
"I am... not?" Nirei echoes. Sakura murmurs something under his breath, which is, well, cute, because he cannot find the right words and tries to juggle his vocabulary and his emotions.
"you're not a failure," Sakura eventually murmurs. "don't call yourself that. it's not true." he doesn't blush nor stutter, but Nirei feels himself melting like a butter under the scorching Sun. yet he chooses to try the fragile patience of his friend and push him further.
"but I barely got D on my papers," he says.
"these damn papers don't describe you!" Sakura claims, raising his voice. it draws Suo's attention to them, and Nirei gestures to stay as he is. "you're more than 'em."
okay, Nirei admits, there's still some space.
"how am I more than them? they will decide my future one day," he says, and it's true. it could decide his future one day, but he doesn't care about it so much, knowing that Makochi will offer them all a place to stay and work.
Sakura struggles to come up with an argument, lips pressed into thin line, and he groans, looking at his own exam papers. Cs mostly, which is an improvement from his first Fs.
"...it only means more time to think what you want to do in the future then," Sakura says. "how to use your great memory for good, what to do with your impressing skills at noticing details, sharp eyes, and caring nature."
Nirei sobs.
Sakura startles and starts talking nonsense just to calm him down, panicking, and Nirei cannot help it but laugh and look at Suo, who has his usual scheming smile. oh, Nirei is about to witness the performance of all times.
"Sakura-kun," Suo comes closer to them and hands Nirei a bottle of cold tea to help him with hiccups, "but what's about me? what's about my future in this case? doesn't it look grim to you?"
Nirei observes exam papers with solid Bs on every sheet. what is he scheming then? it's a good grade.
"what are you yappin' about?" Sakura squints, suspecting Suo as much as Nirei does at the moment, and Suo tilts his head, grinning. "with such grades you're destined to have a decent university ahead of you."
"but decent isn't good enough, don't you think?" oh, Nirei feels shiver down his spine: this conversation isn't just about grades. it's more, and Sakura knows it, too. it's about Suo's inner demons, torturing him at nights.
Nirei cannot even predict the possible answer Sakura should give to satisfy Suo and let him go of his thoughts, focused on flaws. it took a long time for them to help him to appreciate the taste of food, not thinking of his past and guilt, weighing him down.
"Suo," Sakura starts, "you're already more than enough to us. you're charming people with ease, you tease them as much, you can persuade anyone, and you- you—" Sakura murmurs something so precious that Nirei barely able to stop himself from squeaking and kicking. Suo, who didn't hear Sakura's words due to the distance, looks slightly lost.
"I didn't catch what you've said, Sakura-kun. could you, please repeat?" Suo asks, and Nirei is too close to clapping his hands and giggling like crazy.
Because Sakura jumps on his feet, points his finger on Suo, and literally yells loud enough for everyone in the whole class to notice them having The Conversation.
"you're beautiful, and patient, and caring, and you still think ill of yourself for some reason, and I'm so mad because of that, and you still have no idea how much you've impacted me and others in the class, and!.."
Sakura stops, staring at Suo.
"oh."
Suo's face is slightly pink.
Nirei flops on the floor and screams.
----
Later he writes down in his notebook that Sakura cannot stand his friends refusing to recognize and appreciate their worth. the idea to play games till the very night wasn't his best idea, but the outcome he received? better than he could ever expect.

1) Jack was introduced as an important plot point in Cas' storyline, from the very beginning his story was supposed to be tightly connected to Cas'. But I suppose execs thought that having Misha and Alex in the episodes together was luxury (and we can't even think about making an episode where Jensen and Jared aren't involved) which led to rare interactions between Cas and Jack which is deeply disappointing.
2) The same as 1.
3) They tried to do that in season 5 while making him a parallel to Bobby's disability, but in the end both of them just got better lmao. After that Cas losing his powers and gaining them was used mainly as a crutch to the main storylines.
4) Self-explanatory, I think
5) This is going to be complicated. Most likely it's just a me problem. Yes, there's charm to Cas being a total loser. Yes, trying to accept yourself beyond your usefullness is a theme. Yes, I get it. But. It feels bad. He's an autistic-coded character to whom I relate a lot. Because of my autism many people think that I'm incompetent, that I'm unable to do any job, that I'm too uhh child-like for it. And through Cas it seems to me that show says "yeah, lol, you're a loser, you can't do anything yourself, you should just give up and let others do your job". Like it's totally connected to my personal problems and to how I interpret the character, but if we're talking about lore of the show, shouldn't he be one of the most effective soldiers of Heaven? Why does he lose all his skills? I'm sure not all of them were connected to his angelic powers. And if they were, couldn't writers let him learn new skills? I just want the show to give him a little more dignity.
6) I just want what Dean fans have - lots of boyfriends/girlfriends for Cas.
7) If you're burying gays, don't be pussies about it. The "yeah, he's here in the Heaven" undermined Cas' sacrifice for no good reason.
8) If you can't have Misha in the episode, at least think of the fun explanation for Cas' absence. Like "Yeah, sorry, I wasn't in the last episode because had to fight aliens", idk.
9) I just want more drama. Moriah was good, but I want more.
10) The idea of Godstiel cults existing after season 7 is sexy to me.

"You don't know half of it, Mike. If you did, you wouldn't be so open and brash about your status in the FBI." Addison admitted, taking off his glass and setting them aside. Okay, if he needed to be truthful then, so be it. He pulled out a box of cigarettes and lifted it up, getting permission from Mike to light one with a gesture.
"Let's start by the basics: your organization works for a bigger and more suspicious organization called The Technocratic Union. We just call them the Technocracy." A pause to take a breath, letting each word fall on it's own weight. "A group of individuals who believe that submission and control are the key to keeping Reality in check... and they will use whatever force, —political, propaganda or even military force—, to achieve their goal and whatever gets in their way. As long as the masses remain asleep, they will continue reigning." Addison then turned up to meet Mike's gaze, gouging how far he was going with. One thing was to reveal that his grandpa was not whom he said he was, another one to reveal that he had been working to support the bad guys.
"I'm not saying you specifically, but some in your organization definitely are in cahoots with the Technocracy," Addison admitted. "And some of the people that your organization has captured were to support the fascist agenda of this shadow government." The lawyer then proceeded to pick out, from his own messenger bag, a folder that he extended to the young blonde man. A soft huff left Addison's lips and then continued. "Back in the day, your organization was not as well communicated, coast to coast information was not spread widely, which served well to a man known as The Doctor."
"A doctor by title, yes, but the reality is much worse." A sigh. "He was a doctor who performed a lot of human experiments. He was a mage like me, but a sick individual, a monster, if you will. He performed lobotomy on his patients, and once he did, his victims would become nothing more than a shell, a puppet to do whatever he willed them. He also experimented on the bodies of his victims, trying to see if there was a way to create a superhuman." A huff. Just thinking about it, he felt his stomach turn and twist. "The main problem was that the man belonged to the Technocracy. A well known and respected surgeon who used his position to cover-up his tracks." Addison closed his eyes, wishing to not remember all of the gruesome details as best as he could, but he didn't. They were there, haunting him forverer. "The Doctor was known for creating thralls, enslaved humans, out of his own lobotomized victims. At one point he had a young adult enslaved and then forced to kill his own family in a gruesome mimicking act."
All the evidence collected on such matter had been stored in multiple files and photographies, some of them taken by Joseph himself, which Addison had extended to Mike know in order to prove his point. The photos were violent and gruesome, depicting a group of individuals, all of them having the heart and brains taken out with precise skill. "The lobotomized victim's name was Richard Harrison. And the attack was not random: The Doctor planned every movement because he made sure to leave enough evidence to pin this crime on Robert Harrison, Richard's twin." Mike had the dossier of both brothers in file. One depicted all the chronic maladies that afflicted Richard: depression, anxiety, melancholy and even transvestism, back at a time where dressing up as a woman was a mental deviation. The other file however contained much different information.
"It wasn't a random attack: he made sure that the attack seemed similar to a ritual performed by Egyptian priests back in the day, because Robert Harrison was none other than a member of our council. He belonged to the Euthanatoi, a group of individuals who believe in Death and Reincarnation." A pause, again, Addison wanted to make sure that Mike was indeed following him. "The Doctor had every intention to have Robert take the fall and make us way weaker... and he even enforced it by having your agency aprehend him and jail him." Addison shook his head, the disdain that he had for the institutions back then was still ever present. "Until I took the case to support Robert and thanks to the clever insight of Joseph, I was able to create a defense and prove his innocence." A smile. "I was able to save his life and show the world, the real world, not the one ruled by the Technocracy, the truth. That the man who did it was not him but the Doctor."
There was so much more that could be said, so much more history to unveil, but Addison decided to leave it as it was, for the moment.
"I hope this can give you some clarity, at least," Addison added. "Because if you really want to help, then it's good to know what you are truly fighting against."
‘Yeah? Well, maybe you should.’ Mike cleared his throat, turning to pour himself another drink.
‘Or maybe you can sit down and tell me the truth. Everything.’ He sipped the drink before facing Addison. ‘Everything you have about the original case. Filling in the gaps for your…’ He shook his head, unable to find the words for the supernatural element. ‘And then I’ll see how helpful I can be.’
He took another sip, licking the remnants from his lips before leaning back against the table that faced the couch. ‘So, you can either do that. Or you can leave without fucking with my head. Those are your two choices.’
He held up a finger with the hand that wielded the glass. ‘And before you even think about a third, less pleasant option, I’m a Federal Agent.’ Addison didn’t look like the type of guy to attack him out of nowhere, especially as weak and tearful as he seemed right now. But Mike had seen men like Addison try to take out whole families. People were capable of anything.
‘And I’m not trying to stomp on you, yet. And maybe the FBI won’t, if they have someone in on this case.’
Sure, Mike had lied about how close to law enforcement he was. But if he was going to be any use, he needed Addison on the same page.
