when fandom doesn't resonate
So like, i know a lot of people are Rings of Power fans and don't know anything about book canon. That is fine, we accept all folks, and its awesome to see perspectives of new fans. But like, I loved haladriel in season 1, and I realized in season 2 the majority of the fans saw the ship COMPLETELY differently than I did. Like they were expecting more from the dynamic than we got. And I see them all being disappointed in how it turned out when this is like the best it was ever gonna be and exceeded what I expected. Galadriel isn't getting with a devil who lied and manipulated her. The most they will have is a metaphorical stabbing scene.
Like is this just not understanding who Sauron is, or projecting a different romance trope I'm unaware of onto this ship? Like i love a lot of dark enemy relationship tropes but this was never gonna be enemies to lovers. Because its *Sauron*. Like even if you never read the books he is an evil eye that is the representation of the devil in the movies. Surely that amount of cultural knowledge permeated popular culture?
Sauron ships are about how close you can get to evil without being corrupted. (well, except for angbang, that is the opposite of that) The sexiness is the evil and the violence, the gaslighting, the delusion and the what might be but won't be. It's the promise of getting everything you could ever want and getting absolutely none of it. That is the promise of the Ring and ultimately of Sauron, because that is who he is. To me, Haladriel is attractive because it is a tangible look into what it is to be tempted by the ring. Because the vague "you can conquer middle earth" "you can save your friends" "you can become king" don't mean anything. But I can relate to being mansplained and passed over despite my merit, and have someone be a perfect coworker/mentor/partner that will help you achieve everything you want. Someone that is a shortcut for that respect. Someone who lets you say *i told you so* to everyone. Someone who lets you get revenge and be bad without *being bad*. That is sexy but it's a lie.
But that part is also sexy. The being picked by someone supremely evil and powerful, of being special. And if you are masochistic, the pain and the powerplay is also sexy. The metaphors of fighting and penetration and whatnot, that is interesting. Not to mention the sheer hubris he displays, and self-delusion. But like, I knew Halbrand was Sauron like from the second scene we saw him. It was like "oh yep, that is what is going on". There was never any illusion to me that Galadriel can make him good. Or that he'd want to fix himself for her . He can definitely *see himself* in her or or *see things he wants of her*, and that is a thrill, but he is never gonna want that sweet life he is promising to her. That is so transparently a lie but it is amusing to see him have the absolute NERVE to be that shameless. Dunno, do dark ships need to be "enemies to *lovers*" or have promise of redemption to be attractive? Sometimes it's just dark sexy manipulation and violence. Also, Galadriel is still *good*. She is tempted because temptation is a theme of Tolkien. But the whole point is she resisted the darkness. She isn't gonna overpower Sauron's either, and keep him on a leash. That is literally what Morgoth did. (Sauron would be into that, though, but he'd be a brat about it). Anyway. Is it just because I knew who Sauron was all along? If you want a ship where you get to keep Sauron as a pet, maybe Angbang is for you? Maybe that is why I'm so glad for silvergifting in Season 2, we all seemed to be in the same page as to what is going on. This was gonna be so tragic and kinky we were all here for it. I just seem to keep getting burned by straight ship fandoms having a wildly different vibe than I expect from them.

So I had another idea come at me while making lunch (I'm starting to sense a pattern with myself, lmao)
What if when Jazz sends out letters to the colleges she wants to get into, she gets sent rejection letters from every single one... except the local community college. She's absolutely devastated about it. She thought that she did everything she could to be chosen. How could every single one reject her?
Danny, of course, hears about it and asks Tucker to check and see if something happened digitally. Surely, Technus or Vlad or someone messed with something to sabotage her. But when Tucker checks, there's absolutely nothing wrong. She still has her perfect grades and attendance record all set with no marks. Her community service hours are all there. It's only when he looks at the letters themselves that he finds the problem...
After looking online to see what the letters look like, he comes to a puzzling realization... the letters were fake. It's a good fake, but it's not the real thing. The signatures were off, and the writing had been changed.
This is what leads him down the rabbit hole.
He tries to ask about it online to ask others who've also been rejected. Except nobody is answering him.
Sam tries to call the numbers listed on the websites of the colleges... but the person who answers is strangely unknowledgeable about the college they represent.
The only college that seems normal about it was the nearby community college. And that somehow feels the least normal about everything.
It was only when he heard his mom complaining that they never heard from family anymore after they moved to Amity that he figured it out.
Containment. Nothing is leaving Amity. No emails, texts, letters, or posts online. Everything was being blocked.
Of course, this sends him on a mission as to why and how. He spends weeks on it. Sam and Danny actually began to become concerned for him. No, this isn't a pride thing, Sam. And yes, he is taking care of himself, Danny.
Technus is the one who gives him the answer. It was just a passing comment about how he needed to funnel through the GIW in order to infect the world. It didn't make sense to any of them because surely that's the last place you would want to do that. But then it dawned on Tucker. That's who has the power needed to do it! That's where he needed to look!
So he hacks into the GIW and is astonished by what he finds.
The anti ecto acts aren't real. There's no laws even acknowledging ghosts.
There's a file on Phantom, marked as 'candidate for X'.
And all he can find on the containment is a name he's seen described as the creator of the GIW and the main supplier of funds.
Amanda Waller.

Still going through it emotionally btw. I've seen a lot of character death in anime but it's been a WHILE since I've seen one as brutal as Ace's, especially bc of Luffy's reaction to it. Character death isn't unusual but the trauma and PTSD that comes after it isn't really shown that often so Oda actually showing Luffy going through it is. Oof. That shit HURTS bro. And the fact that Luffy's immediate reaction is to just. Self destruct. To hurt himself and risk his own life?? Like it was never explicitly said but I could see the suicidal intent there and jesus CHRIST. Just sitting there watching him refuse to accept it and then mourn and grieve was absolutely brutal;; Not to mention the fact that like. We can see him having PTSD flashbacks. It was just written very well (too well bc I'm still a goddamn mess) and I gotta commend Oda even tho he's putting me through the fucking wringer

kudos to evan for giving almost every one of his characters an accent (even if it's subtle) like he definitely could've gotten away with just using his regular voice for warren or peter but he doesn't! even jay has a certain cadence of speech that's not a part of the typical canadian accent. i really appreciate it bc i'm big on immersion in media and little stuff like this helps separate the character from the actor playing them (and makes the character feel more authentic too). so when you're watching it makes it a bit easier to not think "oh that's just evan peters in a silver wig" like no that's peter maximoff.

I've seen people say this is proof that EA is at fault for all of this nonsense surrounding Veilguard, and honestly, I'm willing to believe it is, because EA sucks ass and I hate them, and I believe BioWare can very much produce better writing when freed from corporate meddling*.
But I also don't think this should be used to protect the writing from criticism? Cuz like ... so you agree? You agree the writing was bad, in this product you sold people, for money? And you're shifting the blame onto the publisher? You agree it's bad writing that has your name on it but it's none of your faults specifically?
Even if I believe that, it's still ... You agree, right? You agree that the stuff people are saying is bad is bad? But you're saying it sucks so bad that they complain about it because it's not your fault?
Do y'all understand my dilemma here? Obviously don't harrass the writers personally or send them death threats, but that's just basic human decency to me. If you as the writer realize that something with your name on it is bad through no fault of your own, surely the solution isn't to complain that people are pointing out the bad thing you're aware of is bad? Surely you should go "Yeah that was bad. I agree with you all. I wanted to fix it but couldn't."
And you might say "well they're probably under NDAs so they can't say anything negative" but they ARE?? This right here is them implying the bad shit isn't their fault but the result of them "losing that fight" (with the execs)?
Do you get it? They agree that it's bad, but also saying it's not their fault it's bad, so stop complaining because it's very difficult for them. Broskis people paid for the game. And they are critiquing the shit you agree is bad. No need to get all wounded animal on the audience.
*Though I should note that indie devs still have a profit incentive, particularly the bigger ones, so even if we lived in a world without EA but with capitalism it's very likely BioWare itself would try to be more and more commercial with each new game, EA just sped up the process exponentially. El problema es el capitalismo etc.

thinking about be cool scooby doo fred on this delightful evening. he's afraid of widths. he gets emotional over a drumkit. he knows how to apply eyeliner perfectly. he's a sleep deprived, paranoid, manic danger to himself and others. he becomes enemies with a goat. his shoulders are so tense that they can break a chair. he goes to jail twice. where on earth did he get the funds to give the mystery machine all those high-tech upgrades. he hired a guy to make his epiphanies look more dramatic. the exterior of his house is an affront to god. he cannot take care of himself to save his life. he is a middle aged dad stuck in the body of an eighteen year old. he has childhood trauma related to halloween. he accidentally parked his van on a space shuttle. he is consistently aggravated by daphne’s commitment to the bit. he really needs to let go of those tiny red shorts. he's a court jester. he represents the order to his criminal father's chaos. he has control issues stemming from this but tries to overcome them for the sake of the gang and always apologises when he goes too far and knows that even when they wind him up it isn't a threat because he loves and trusts them so much and they care about him in turn even before he fully opens up to them about his childhood and—

hey. sooooooooooo I haven't seen anyone else make any posts or videos about it but has anyone else noticed that as the acts progress, the text of Siffrin's dialogue options that have been chosen already become increasingly distorted? At first it's hardly noticable, like a few pixels of a letter missing then it gets increasingly fucked up? Like, multiple ENTIRE letters distorted or straight up missing.
IT HAPPENS IN THE CHARACTER BIOS IN THE MENU TOO, BUT ONLY TO SIFFRIN SO WHEN YOU LOOK AT A DIFFERENT BIO THEN BACK TO HIS IT GOES BACK TO NORMAL i fuckin' felt like i was being gaslit or some shit it's SO BRILLIANT!!
(i believe it also happens to the souvenirs/items?)
I was so scared and full of dread there'd be something horrifying and different waiting for me when I Looked Back but I DID IT EVERYTIME ANYWAYS
AUUUUUU77GHHHGWG and the way it reflects both Siffrin AND the player's mental states through multiple different interpretations SO GOOD WAAAAUAGGhHh
Noticed this for the first time when I played the demo! I thought it was some sort of weird game engine rending glitch and ignored it!
