when fandom doesn't resonate
So like, i know a lot of people are Rings of Power fans and don't know anything about book canon. That is fine, we accept all folks, and its awesome to see perspectives of new fans. But like, I loved haladriel in season 1, and I realized in season 2 the majority of the fans saw the ship COMPLETELY differently than I did. Like they were expecting more from the dynamic than we got. And I see them all being disappointed in how it turned out when this is like the best it was ever gonna be and exceeded what I expected. Galadriel isn't getting with a devil who lied and manipulated her. The most they will have is a metaphorical stabbing scene.
Like is this just not understanding who Sauron is, or projecting a different romance trope I'm unaware of onto this ship? Like i love a lot of dark enemy relationship tropes but this was never gonna be enemies to lovers. Because its *Sauron*. Like even if you never read the books he is an evil eye that is the representation of the devil in the movies. Surely that amount of cultural knowledge permeated popular culture?
Sauron ships are about how close you can get to evil without being corrupted. (well, except for angbang, that is the opposite of that) The sexiness is the evil and the violence, the gaslighting, the delusion and the what might be but won't be. It's the promise of getting everything you could ever want and getting absolutely none of it. That is the promise of the Ring and ultimately of Sauron, because that is who he is. To me, Haladriel is attractive because it is a tangible look into what it is to be tempted by the ring. Because the vague "you can conquer middle earth" "you can save your friends" "you can become king" don't mean anything. But I can relate to being mansplained and passed over despite my merit, and have someone be a perfect coworker/mentor/partner that will help you achieve everything you want. Someone that is a shortcut for that respect. Someone who lets you say *i told you so* to everyone. Someone who lets you get revenge and be bad without *being bad*. That is sexy but it's a lie.
But that part is also sexy. The being picked by someone supremely evil and powerful, of being special. And if you are masochistic, the pain and the powerplay is also sexy. The metaphors of fighting and penetration and whatnot, that is interesting. Not to mention the sheer hubris he displays, and self-delusion. But like, I knew Halbrand was Sauron like from the second scene we saw him. It was like "oh yep, that is what is going on". There was never any illusion to me that Galadriel can make him good. Or that he'd want to fix himself for her . He can definitely *see himself* in her or or *see things he wants of her*, and that is a thrill, but he is never gonna want that sweet life he is promising to her. That is so transparently a lie but it is amusing to see him have the absolute NERVE to be that shameless. Dunno, do dark ships need to be "enemies to *lovers*" or have promise of redemption to be attractive? Sometimes it's just dark sexy manipulation and violence. Also, Galadriel is still *good*. She is tempted because temptation is a theme of Tolkien. But the whole point is she resisted the darkness. She isn't gonna overpower Sauron's either, and keep him on a leash. That is literally what Morgoth did. (Sauron would be into that, though, but he'd be a brat about it). Anyway. Is it just because I knew who Sauron was all along? If you want a ship where you get to keep Sauron as a pet, maybe Angbang is for you? Maybe that is why I'm so glad for silvergifting in Season 2, we all seemed to be in the same page as to what is going on. This was gonna be so tragic and kinky we were all here for it. I just seem to keep getting burned by straight ship fandoms having a wildly different vibe than I expect from them.

WHY???? DID WE NEED TO KNOW SO MUCH ABOUT HIM???? WHY??? DID HE GET THIS ↑↑↑ MANY EXPRESSIONS?? WHY ARE THEY SO SUBTLE???????#ARE WE SUPPOSED TO CARE ABOUT HIM AND LOOK INTO WHAT HIS DEAL IS OR NOT????#WAS IT ALL A MISDIRECTION OR WERE PARTS OF IT ACTUALLY A SET UP FOR NEW GAME PLUS??????#idk. but i do know that i love that little prick#i should just write an actual post about him instead of screaming in the tags sgsjgdjd#oh and btw I don't actually think the pippins hate him lol. i think everyone is indifferent towards him until he makes himself known#then it turns to annoyance#anyways if you're reading this i hope youre doing well 🩷🩷 take it easy :]]

So I had another idea come at me while making lunch (I'm starting to sense a pattern with myself, lmao)
What if when Jazz sends out letters to the colleges she wants to get into, she gets sent rejection letters from every single one... except the local community college. She's absolutely devastated about it. She thought that she did everything she could to be chosen. How could every single one reject her?
Danny, of course, hears about it and asks Tucker to check and see if something happened digitally. Surely, Technus or Vlad or someone messed with something to sabotage her. But when Tucker checks, there's absolutely nothing wrong. She still has her perfect grades and attendance record all set with no marks. Her community service hours are all there. It's only when he looks at the letters themselves that he finds the problem...
After looking online to see what the letters look like, he comes to a puzzling realization... the letters were fake. It's a good fake, but it's not the real thing. The signatures were off, and the writing had been changed.
This is what leads him down the rabbit hole.
He tries to ask about it online to ask others who've also been rejected. Except nobody is answering him.
Sam tries to call the numbers listed on the websites of the colleges... but the person who answers is strangely unknowledgeable about the college they represent.
The only college that seems normal about it was the nearby community college. And that somehow feels the least normal about everything.
It was only when he heard his mom complaining that they never heard from family anymore after they moved to Amity that he figured it out.
Containment. Nothing is leaving Amity. No emails, texts, letters, or posts online. Everything was being blocked.
Of course, this sends him on a mission as to why and how. He spends weeks on it. Sam and Danny actually began to become concerned for him. No, this isn't a pride thing, Sam. And yes, he is taking care of himself, Danny.
Technus is the one who gives him the answer. It was just a passing comment about how he needed to funnel through the GIW in order to infect the world. It didn't make sense to any of them because surely that's the last place you would want to do that. But then it dawned on Tucker. That's who has the power needed to do it! That's where he needed to look!
So he hacks into the GIW and is astonished by what he finds.
The anti ecto acts aren't real. There's no laws even acknowledging ghosts.
There's a file on Phantom, marked as 'candidate for X'.
And all he can find on the containment is a name he's seen described as the creator of the GIW and the main supplier of funds.
Amanda Waller.

I am so tired of the lack of emotional intelligence in the Discourse. People really thinking Galinda assuring Elphie that it was the milk flowers' fault instead of outright saying it was govenor douchdickmcgoo's fault was her being spineless/being afraid to outright call him out bc he's an authority figure...like???? How is THAT the conclusion y'all came to???? This is why we need to value english lit and humanities courses more istfg...
They were alone and there was literally no one around for her to virtue signal bc she knows by now elphie sees right through her when she does that. Elphaba's secret was something she had internalized her whole life and had never told anyone. Mind you, elphie explicitly tells her FREXPAR FORCED HIS WIFE TO CHEW THE DAMN FLOWERS and said flowers being consumed led to nessa being premature and disabled and their mother dying. This conversation is the first empathetic moment we see that is truly selfless and not an attempt to be universally liked. She also displays remarkable emotional intelligence here. Saying it was the milk flowers' fault IS saying it was frexpar's fault, just in a tactful way. She knows this is a vulnerable moment for someone whose hackles are raised 24/7 out of self preservation. It's a lot to unpack for elphie in one night. It's also obvious that elphie does want her father's love and approval and does love him in spite of pretending it doesn't bother her. You gotta ease into unpacking that kind of shit, especially when this secret is something that has literally altered her brain chemistry and sense of self since she was a SMALL CHILD.

yk initially i was with everybody picketing about hikaru's confession not being translated as 'i'm crazy for you'
but after reviewing the episode i actually don't mind it at all. the direction was perfect. it honestly reframed the scene for me in a way that i... for some reason, didn't pick up on while reading or even re-reading the manga.
the way yoshiki rushes to get out "do you like me?", like he has to spit it out before he gets too scared to ask. it's basically his litmus test. he already knows 'hikaru' isn't hikaru, but this will really cement it for him. because the real hikaru would never take that question seriously. he would never answer it sincerely, not the way yoshiki wants him to. he would never even pretend to reciprocate.
and of course, 'hikaru' takes it seriously. he's known yoshiki for 6 months at this point. the feelings he has towards yoshiki aren't just based on how the real hikaru felt about his best friend anymore. so he tells him honestly. and that's basically how yoshiki knows. he's crying because he knows hikaru would never say that, and he's mourning that loss in this moment, and when he says "never leave me again", he's not talking to an imitation of his best friend - he's talking to 'hikaru', the thing that came down the mountain.
this is The Scene. this is where yoshiki stops superimposing hikaru over 'hikaru' in his mind. from this point forward 'hikaru' is fully and truly his own person in yoshiki's mind.

So during nick kosir's vlog with Enhypen, he asked puppyz what word do they want him to sneak into his weather forecast and they said ENGENE, and he actually did it(T_T)
"All that moisture being sucked up by this area of low pressure. listen, there’s a kpop group named ENHYPEN and their fans are called ENGENES because they’re the fuel, they’re the engine and the fuel that keeps the band going. well, this is the fuel that’s going to continue to keep these showers going"

kudos to evan for giving almost every one of his characters an accent (even if it's subtle) like he definitely could've gotten away with just using his regular voice for warren or peter but he doesn't! even jay has a certain cadence of speech that's not a part of the typical canadian accent. i really appreciate it bc i'm big on immersion in media and little stuff like this helps separate the character from the actor playing them (and makes the character feel more authentic too). so when you're watching it makes it a bit easier to not think "oh that's just evan peters in a silver wig" like no that's peter maximoff.

This could very well be projection on my part (it is), but one key element to Vegas as a character that's been speaking to me lately is how he's so clearly, intrinsically, viscerally disgusted with himself.

There's something so "performative" about the finale, not sure how to articulate it. I mean, it's been like that for a while, but there were still sincere moments every now and then (probably from the cast putting all their actussy into it). It wanted to make a statement so bad, regardless of whether you think they were mocking us or not. "I'm not a normal sitcom, I'm a cool sitcom, like Seinfield. I don't fit in and I don't want to fit in. Have you ever seen my characters evolve? Oh... Oh... No, you haven't! I artificially took that back every single time! That's cool."
They wanted to remove the sense of a plot and a purpose that season 3 and partially season 4 gave it so hard it's like they couldn't think of anything else. It's funny because it's pointless and unsatisfying, even though we have managed to balance raunchy comedy and emotional scenes just fine before. It's easier this way and it get us Reddit praise. But here's the thing, it wasn't even that funny. Season 1 was just sitcom shenanigans and dark comedy and it was hilarious. Like, when was the last time you physically bent over in laughter while watching this show and are you sure it wasn't because the actors were making a funny voice or a funny face that absolutely wasn't scripted?
But I mean, all that aside, I think it's just cringe. It's giving "how you doing, fellow kids?" It's overdone and so eager to be disruptive it ends up being anticlimatic. "That's the point! We were trying to be anticlimatic!" Ok, bro, you're either a shit writer because you couldn't come up with an actual conclusion or because you genuinely thought that'd make good tv.
Comparing wwdits to Seinfield is like when wannabe great American novelist says he's writing the next Great Gatsby. No you're not. And I don't mean this as "wwdits isn't worth shit compared to actual high art sitcoms such as Seinfield" (I actually liked it better when it wasn't trying to become Seinfield); it's just... There's already a Seinfield. And there was already a wwdits that had found its footing and its voice and was doing a near perfect balancing act between comedy and drama, while keeping it humor-focused at all times. Your story is yours but when my book was starting to sound a lot like The Girls by Emma Cline minus the ABSOLUTE LITERATURE of it (arguably the best thing about The Girls), my mom was like "this not you, girl, what are you doing?" And that was MY MOM, not some random people on the Internet who are a small portion of the people who put food on my table (hopefully, heh -pay writers better, bitches >:(-). Like, dude, you're in your 40s, how can you be this petty?
At the end of the day, it was just petty. It read like fanfiction a troll would write. And they can try to gaslight us into buying it was actually such a smart move and amazing writing, but we know the truth. "We've thought about six possible endings for Guillermo's arc and haven't decided on one", "We kind of just come up with things that might be funny and work them into an episode"; things being said about a show one its fourth and fifth season. Absolutely valid, of course, but you can just admit you bit more than you could chew and wanted an easy way out. We get it, it's your job, do whatever you need to get that (far too small) paycheck, but don't put a "subversive" label on it and call it a perfect ending.
And if you're so willing to disrespect your fanbase or convince them they were watching a completely different show mere three years ago, for fuck's sake, commit to the bit and at least make it entertaining. Characters just spelling out things that are going to annoy the fans or prove to them it was silly to care about the shit and fart show for half and hour? THREE TIMES? Dude, you can be more subtle, media litecary's been dead for a while now. It's not unfunny in the sense that it's offensive; rather it was offensive how deeply unfunny it was. How can you manage to be this dishonest while doing everything in your power to make yourself seem even more dishonest??? smh

I don't know why more people don't talk about this when it comes to THE buddie moment, but the moment I thought they might make it canon was actually the crossover episode. Like, sorry: Buck accidentally flirts with TK, TK clocks him, tells him he already has a boyfriend and it's "pretty serious", then walks away only for Eddie to walk into the frame at the exact right moment. For me, no other moment in the show, apart from Eddie undressing in his very first appearance screamed "canon" to me. But then it didn't happen and I returned to my "Buck had a crush but Eddie isn't interested" hill, where I will stay because no, I don't see it happening. (If it ever was considered, it's been dropped long ago for reasons we probably won't ever know for certain.)
