so y'all know the sick man from lady k and the sick man? well, i've only read that thing one time, and im not afraid to admit how unhealthily infatuated i am with lady k's man. he's literlaly my favorite flavor of man: older, kind of a deadbeat with a good heart, can and literally wil fuck you from sun up to sun down, built like a greek god, he. is. PACKIN, looks half dead, a genuine sweetheart with his lover's best interest in mind. i think his name is tostumoto yuushi, and lemme just say that i would gladly, GLADLY, take lady k's place if it means i get to breathe that man's air for even a second.
just imagine you've known tostumoto yuushi since maybe high school, having even dated him at one point. you two experimented with your bodies, tested the waters of intimacy because who better to do that with than someone you love. adversely though, life managed to drift you two apart for a few years. when you two reconnect it's a dingy casino. by that time, he's already jumped from job to job, left a recent custodian gig, and gambled most of his savings. he's on the verge of eviction and feels like he's at his lowest. the only thing he truly feels is his undying sex drive, which isn't much in the face of everything. the flame between you two rekindles as quickly as it did all those years ago, and before you know it, you're back at your apartment with his tired face nestled between your thighs.
"forgot how good you tasted, baby, fuck.." he rasps, his tongue dragging hastily over your clit, making your legs quiver and close around his head. your fingers yank at his dark hair, incoherent babbles falling from your moist lips. "yuushi," you mewl helplessly, your sensitive core constantly leaking your essence into his greedy mouth. "'m gonna cum again, s-slow down, nghhn.." he leers up at you, his eyes dark pools of lust burning holes into you. "do it, cum in my fuckin mouth."
and you do. the pressure in your gut is far more intense than what it usually is, and as you achieve your third orgasm of the night, you squirt onto yuushi's face, leaving him glistening with your release. he licks whatever landed on his lip and rises so that his large body is hovering over where yours lays sprawled on the couch, the look in his eyes makes your core pulse. "c'mon, be a good girl and clean me up."
i'm probably gonna write something abt him one of these days :')

Hello beloved bitches! How do you cope with the anticipation of job news? I’m waiting to find out if I got into the phd program of my dreams, and before that to be invited to the recruitment weekend at said program. The invitation could come any day and it’s making me extremely unhealthily obsessed with checking my email!! How do I put the anticipation down??
You say to yourself, "Well that was a fun opportunity. Too bad I didn't get it" and then move on with your life.
Convince yourself that you've already been turned down so you can focus on other things and not hyperfocus on the uncertainty. That way when you DO get accepted to the PhD program, it'll come as a lovely surprise while you're busy doing something else.
I used to do this during high school theater auditions. Now I do it for job applications. Works like a charm!
I Just Applied for a Job. How (And When) Should I Follow Up?
Did we just help you out? Tip us!

If you could relive any of your memories, which would it be?
Sorry for the late reply, school happened, lol, but thank you for the ask @fabulousnomatterwhat! it's a good one
It would have to be something fairly recent because I just finished high school and I'm feeling pretty nostalgic. I would say the night of my final IGCSE exams though 'cause this was when all my friends were still around, aside from the ones that had gone home the same afternoon. I schooled at a boarding school so we spent our potentially last night together watching movies and eating a sickening amount of noodles together
there's more below the cut if you want a story, lol
I remember leaving the auditorium after the final multiple choice paper. I don't remember what subject it was, but I do remember the lightheaded feeling of just finishing my exams and realising that some people were leaving. The afternoon was spent returning textbooks, spending some final moments with people that wouldn't be returning or weren't sure if they would, and just trying to come to terms with the fact that I had just finished my first ever big boy exams.
But all that didn't really matter when the night came around.
My friends and I had made plans to leave school the next day so that we could spend one more night together before going home for our longest holiday yet. We collected mattresses from our friends who had already left and stacked them all in one room until we couldn't see the floor and falling off a pile became a safety hazard.
Now, this is probably gonna sound gross, but at school there's an almost ritual of making what we call "spin" weekly or on special occasions. The spin consists of an ungodly amount of 2 minute noodles, a plethora of sauces and whatever cans of meat we can get our hands on, even better if we can carry out some chicken from the dining hall and add it to the mix. With the amount of spin I've had over the years I've definitely decreased my lifespan by at least a quarter, but the experience of prepping the food together with my friends; cracking jokes, mixing everything together and praying the noodles don't spill out as we drain them, I would gladly lose another quarter of my lifespan with them.
Having made the noodles with beef from dines, canned beef, a sickening amount of noodles stuffed into a food warmer kept from the sports and speech day a week or so ago, we were ready for the movie. We watched Ponyo and another movie that I passed out in half way through because of all the food and they still tease me about this.
It was such a good night. At the time it was cold season, but I had never felt warmer in that room of mattresses, leftover food (because we had grossly overestimated ourselves, lol), and the good vibes from friends that had been together for 5 years. I haven't seen one of them for 2 years now, and being able to go back to that particular time where we eat unhealthily, joke and watch movies together would make me so happy
All this to say, I really want those noodles again, lol. Thanks again for the ask!

Alina and the Darkling’s interactions, pt. 10
Chapter 21- The rest.
Tumblr media
The fact Alina has troubles to recognize emotions on his face doesn’t really surprise me.
It’s kinda sad she’s (unknowingly) promising him eternity for one measly mortal life. If only things were that simple. You can almost see him picturing it all.
The last sentence makes it sound like she’s in love with the amplifier in him. Since I already know the author’s gonna spend next two books trying to persuade us Morozova’s amplifiers are “corrupting” the heroine, we could conclude:
a.) All amplifiers make Grisha want more power. Even if they already have one, and can’t get another. Which could lead to unnecessary slaughter and spoilage of amplifiers killed by already amplified Grisha.
b.) Alina is powerhungry by nature. She has the collar, yet subconsciously wants Aleksander’s bones too.
c.) The Darkling is Morozova’s amplifier. That’s why he affects Alina, when she already has the Stag. Like calls to like.
Tumblr media
The Darkling’s not dumb, he can put two and two together, and Malina’s relationship is obviously unhealthily codependent (She keeps asking only about Maaal during her imprisonment.) and Malyen’s anti-Grisha attitude is just oozing out of him.  He’s a traitor, unworthy opponent in love (or lust or whatever), lousy prejudiced otkazat’sya.
I’m not sure how much is Darkles aware of the personal layer, since getting rid of Malyen works for his Cause too. He’ll make the Sun Summoner stronger AND he’ll have Alina for himself. Eventually. Since both of these align so nicely...
He keeps (gently) touching her. I’d say it’s an interesting course of action considering his fucked up relationship with physical touch. He’s an amplifier, he’s spent most of his life avoiding it. He’s still wearing gloves, even though he probably won’t be killed for his bones anymore. He has to be horribly touch-starved. Humans are social creatures thriving on physical contact, he couldn’t have any all of his childhood (Baghra doesn’t strike me as a hugging kind of person, pun intended.), there were no loved ones in his life for Saints-know-how many years/decades... Alina won’t seek out his touch in the foreseeable future, he can as well take it. She hates him anyway, plus it throws her off even more.
We could also compare this part to the show. Show!Aleksander doesn’t really threaten Malyen. Not too vividly. I’d say what makes the difference is Luda.
In show he lost someone he cared deeply about. He has feelings for Alina, and hope she’ll understand him. He doesn’t want her to suffer, he’s willing to shield her, be it from anger of the mob or death of her friends.
Book!Darkling on the other hand, knows the world sucks, loss in inevitable and believes that sooner Alina lives through all of that nonsense, sooner she can grow up  and join him as his true equal. Killing the guy, who’s holding her back, right in front of  her is a sort of a shock therapy. This Darkling is efficient, not mindful.
Tumblr media
The Darkling feels betrayed, so he hurts in return. Strictly speaking, he still treats Alina better than any other superior would. Malina would never get their meeting, or a whole NIGHT before execution!
Food for thoughts: How many times in his long, long life has he been betrayed? How many “friends” and allies stabbed him in the back? How many soldiers, who should’ve fought alongside him, defected? Can you imagine the amount of aversion he probably has towards traitors of any kind?
Tumblr media
There are phrases that just don’t work. “Something broke loose inside me”? With your constant anger issues? Isn’t this the same person, who was snapping at people, who accidentally crashed into them? Or at their (cowardly) superiors in front of high-ranking officers and a tent full of other soldiers? Sorry, Alina, but you never struck me as a meek individual.
Tumblr media
Aleksander is a very self-aware person. He knows what both the world and his choices made him, he knows it’s not pretty, but it’s already done, so no point whining about the spilled milk. He doesn’t disrespect his “innocent victims” by indecisiveness or empty regret. He knows what he is, and why and doesn’t deny it.
I think show merely put into words, what was already in between the lines:
Our enemies are threatened by your mere existence. But Ravka can only stand up to them if we present a united front. And there is talk of uprising in the West, led by our esteemed First Army General. Our own people, turning their backs on us. I have been fighting this war alone for so long. I have buried so many good soldiers. Friends. The coffers are running dry, the noose tightens and our own people are turning against Grisha, just as their kin once did.
This is the situation, where the Darkling finally finds the Sun Summoner, but instead of dealing with war, he has to deal with her.
She’s immature, doesn’t care about anything but one specific otkazat’sya, can’t even act like a half decent soldier, if she can’t offer understanding and/or support. There’s no time to baby her. The Darkling needs a working asset like yesterday, he catches feelings instead. Who wouldn’t be tired?
pt. 1, pt. 2, pt. 3, pt. 4,  pt. 5,  pt. 6, pt. 7, pt. 8, pt. 9, pt. 11, pt. 12

I feel I have to clarify a tiny something, for informative purposes. You've said before that Juvia using '-sama' on Gray makes him uncomfortable because it's like referring to a god-- I'm sorry, that's a little inaccurate. It does make him uncomfortable, I'm talking about the 'like a god' thing! Sorry if I come off as rude, it kinda bothered me :( Don't worry, your point still stands I just wanna explain more about 'sama'.
"-sama" is indeed used to address god, ("Kami-sama"). But it depends on the context for the level of superiority you're talking about here. It's kind of like the word 'dear' in English, depending on the context, it can be 'Dear Father god', or it can be a formal 'dear' for letters, or it can be a sweet 'dear' like a loving old aunt. (Of course, that is just an example, I'm not saying sama is equivalent to dear, I'm just saying that similarly, context matters.)
It is definitely a high form of respect, you also use it for your Master/Boss in a formal/more historical setting, eg you're a servant or a worker in a mansion, you refer to the Master of the House as 'Lord'. Lucy is also referred to as '-sama' by her maids in the mansion. It is very respectful, but not something as dramatic as divine/worshipping. Juvia using it is displaying a sort of idolisation. Think of it like this-- someone in Japan who is unhealthily fanatical about their favourite Kpop star/Idol/Singer would refer to them as '-sama'. Doesn't the behaviour of a fanatical Kpop stan, who gathers posters and merch of their idol, kind of resemble Juvia's ridiculously creepy room? Of course, Juvia takes things a step further by stalking Gray, and, everything else I will not mention, but at least in part, that is what her '-sama' usage is based on.
Intense idolation and adoration. Which is still not healthy or good, especially since Gray is very uncomfortable about this. He did not sign up to be one, and Juvia, must like toxic Kpop fans, projects her idea of Gray onto him, restricting his freedom in various ways.
Thank you for trying to clarify things for me! And aww don't worry, my friend, you don’t seem rude at all!
I think you might’ve misunderstood me though. I’m sorry if I wasn't clear enough in that post, but let me clarify myself now.
(If people are curious which post Anon is referring to, it's this one, the Ichiya and juvia comparison post.)
I already know that the -sama suffix isn't only used when addressing or referring to God. (I hear it a lot in anime used in many contexts). I'd tried to make that clear in my post too.
Here is the quote from my post that you're referring to in your ask: "I know they use that term when speaking to someone of muuuuch higher status than the speaker, like when they're referring to God, they say "kami-sama". Here, I said like when referring to God, as in kami-sama is merely one example of -sama's usage. I think it's a great example to show how much respect accompanies the use of this suffix, but I wasn't equivocating using it with calling someone God.
That's why I also mentioned: ""If you think about it, it's about the equivalent of this person who's unhealthily obsessed with you bowing down to you and calling you "your royal highness" or "your lordship" or "my queen/king"". I think this shows that I didn't equivocate -sama with Godhood. This is what you sort of say in your ask too, that you would "use it for your Master/Boss in a formal/more historical setting", so we're really agreeing here. Anyway, I used these examples because English doesn't really have a perfect equivalent. The closest thing to it in terms of how it's used grammatically is "sir", I guess, because we don't use suffixes like the Japanese language does. However, -sama is much more respectful than just sir or ma'am, which is why I didn’t mention it.
But I am totally with you that juvia uses -sama to express her “intense idolization and adoration”! That was basically my point when I brought it up in my post, especially that all of those feelings are unwanted by Gray, and yet she forces them onto him regardless. I’m glad you agree that what juvia is doing is wrong and that he didn’t sign up for this. I also agree with you completely, that juvia “projects her idea of Gray onto him, restricting his freedom in various ways”! I couldn’t have said it better myself!
I really appreciate you clarifying everything, especially for those who don't know that much about -sama, but I just wanted to make sure you knew what I meant in that post. Thank you again for taking your time to inform everyone!

『Sakusa Will Not Confess』
Tumblr media
A/n: this was really fun to write for me, hope this turned out fine
pairing: Sakusa x reader
wc: 1.3 k
➪ he doesn’t know since when, all he knows is that from the bottom of his heart, he sincerely liked you
➪ and maybe you like him too, with the smiles reserved for him to see and the way you usually approach him first before anyone else after practice
➪ the problem is, there’s no way in hell he was going to tell you
➪ so you better figure it out yourself, alright?
“That was cool!” You say proudly with so much excitement as you make your way over to the boys. “Thanks y/n,” Bokuto beams but frowns immediately when he realized you weren’t talking to him.
You’ve held up your hands to high-five Oomi, and the others cringed, knowing your enthusiasm was bound to be rejected. Oomi doing high-fives? Never.
“You think so?” He muses, and to everyone’s surprise, he places his hands against yours. All their jaws drop simultaneously as they watched the two of you. Yeah, Atsumu knew Oomi liked you, but the palm to palm contact and he’s not even cringing away from you yet???
➪ needless to say, ever since that day, everyone but you knew how Sakusa liked you ➪ and Atsumu’s the most frustrated, are you really so blind?
“Y/n, I’m telling ya, he likes ya a lot,” Atsumu says, both hands on your shoulders to have you listen to what you thought was nonsense. “Oomi? He’s just really nice, don’t make it a big deal Tsum.”
“Oh really? Perfect! He’s here, now watch,” he grins, inhaling a big breath before shouting, “Y/n! Yer too funny! Let me hug ya!”
“Wha-” you yelp when you’re pulled by your wrist gently away from the said blonde. His grin grows wider as he looks back at Sakusa who managed to march by your side in an instant. “See ya,” he winks at you before walking away.
Confused, you decided that it was simply best to just give up on trying to understand Atsumu and his antics.
“Ohayo Oomi!” You beam at the curly-haired player who still had his mask on. “Ohayo,” he smiles behind his mask, and after chasing away that said smile, he takes his mask off.
“Did you eat breakfast?” He asks, reaching down his bag as he looked for something. “Uh no, not yet, I’m about to though,” you say while stepping away to leave a fair enough space for him.
He raises a brow at your actions. “You took off your mask,” you explain, and he nods. “Here,” he holds out his sanitizer, and you look at him unsurely.
“Oomi offering his sanitizer?! That’s like a proposal already!” Hinata dramatically exclaims, suddenly appearing between the two of you; the orange was quick to walk away though upon receiving Sakusa’s death glare.
“Oomi don’t be so mean early in the morning,” you scold, looking back at him as you realized he was still holding out his sanitizer. He only clicks his tongue before taking a step towards you, “hands,” he shortly says and you automatically hold them up.
“Now you could hold my hand,” he mumbles more to himself as he watched you rub your hands together. “What?” You ask, but he shakes his head.
“Let’s go,” he starts to walk ahead of you. “Where?” You follow him anyway.
“To eat breakfast,” he says, starting to put on a new mask as you both near the door leading outside. He already ate, he just felt like accompanying you.
“I know you eat at home, why do you have to come with me?” You raise a brow at him as you both walk side by side; you were quite in the ‘Sakusa’s personal space’ zone, he simply doesn’t mind.
“You’ll probably eat fast food again if I’m not around,” he rolls his eyes.
➪ at this point, you can’t help but wonder maybe Atsumu was making sense, maybe even a little
➪ why would he, the germaphobe of the century, care so much to accompany you eat simply because he doesn’t want you to eat so unhealthily?
➪ would he rather not stay inside the gym to avoid more exposure to crowds?
“Why are you still here?” You ask in surprise, having just come out of the storage room to find Sakusa leaning on the wall. “Are you finally finished?” He asks, making his way towards you.
“Yes, but that’s not the point. You guys have a match tomorrow,” you narrow your eyes at him. You scoff when he ignores you and turns away, walking towards the exit.
“Sakusa Kiyoomi were you waiting for me?” You ask and he stops on his tracks. “Why else would I be here?” He sarcastically says.
“You were supposed to rest,” you scold, now standing in front of him with your hands on your hips. He narrows his eyes at you, “I could rest earlier if you don’t keep me here longer, let’s just go home,” he says.
“You are my personal headache Oomi, I just don’t get you sometimes,” you lightheartedly say, recalling how he’s been giving you so much exceptions and special treatment; it was kind of frustrating because you can’t help but assume things.
Your breath hitches when he gently pats your head, you swear it was the least thing you’d expect from him. Sure, you were used to how he had no problem with how your skin would come in contact sometimes but this was on a whole other level for you.
“What are you doing?” You ask him, his hand still resting on your head. He doesn’t answer. “My hair has all kinds of dust and germs Oomi, why are you-”
“I know,” he cuts you off, taking his hand away. You click your tongue when he reaches for his sanitizer at the side of his bag. “What’s the point of touching my hair?”
“I wanted to give you a pat on the head, is that a problem?” He asks. “Yes, it is. It really is. What’s that even supposed to mean? Do you like me?” You ask him and he holds no reaction at all.
“I do, it’s clear as day,” he shrugs before walking ahead once more. “Now hurry up so I can get you home, it’s past my bedtime,” he glares at you who stood petrified to the spot.
“Did you just confess?” You ask in disbelief. “I did not.” He grumpily replies before he finally walks away again. “Tsk, bedtime? What are you, a child?” You catch up with him, and he thankfully slows down his strides to match yours.
“I shouldn’t have waited,” he mutters under his breath and you only laugh at him.
➪ it was quick to be noted by the media and the fans how you both had chemistry
➪ between matches, fancams are directed to the both of you as Oomi wordlessly grabs the water bottle in your hand
➪ he’s just never been that way with his past managers because he could get his own safe and clean water by himself thank you very much
➪ also, pictures and videos of the two of you high-fiving each other during their breaks are all over the internet
The match is over, they won, and the exhausted Oomi sits beside you on the bench. “You were great Oomi,” you say and he nods in thanks.
“Can I pat your head too?” Your question caught him off guard as he looks at you in surprise, his hand stopping mid-action as he was about to drink water again.
“I’m sweaty,” he recovers, looking away from you. He freezes when he feels your hand on top of his head, but relaxes after a second when he realized how nice it felt.
“Happy?” He asks you after you pull your hand away and you grin. “Ecstatic.”
“Good,” he says, and without warning, he leans his head on your shoulder. “Uhm, Oomi, this could be all over the net already,” you stutter as your heart rapidly beats against your ribcage.
“Saves me the trouble from telling the others I won you over then.”

there’s only one bed” - illumi zoldyck x reader
a/n: a very stereotypical cliche for fanfics, but, yk what? cringe makes the world go round. so here, have my drabbling of what would happen if you were to spend an unwanted night in the same hotel bed as the adultrio. i feel like i may have made this way too long again, but who cares?? this time it’s with illumi! aka loml ...
summary: after a lengthy car trip, you arrive at the hotel with illumi, but to your horror (wink wink), there’s only one bed. including: you dreaming abt him when he’s literally right in front of you (embarrassing). this is part two of a three-part series, with the adultrio. hisoka is already written and chrollo will be coming soon!
warnings: no particular trigger warnings, lowercase intended, a lot of fluff! and cuddling! only on your part though, since illumi is basically awkwardness personified... no nsfw <3
Tumblr media
illumi zoldyck:
- the trip to the hotel had taken 6 hours. 6 hours in which you had fallen asleep multiple times, cramped your legs, somehow made every sleeping position dangerously uncomfortable, cracked your neck and twisted your back, possibly to the point of no return.
- for mr zoldyck, or rather, “illumi”, as he had instructed you to call him, the trip was no problem. his upbringing, which consisted of mainly torture, included staying awake for as long as a fortnight at a time. 6 hours may as well have been a few minutes.
- “the silent son of the zoldycks” was his reputational nickname, or, rather, “lifeless koi fish”, as your friend, hisoka, enjoyed calling him. either way, illumi was not going to let a car ride tire him.
- when you had first met him, he had scared you. a lot. the entire “trained dangerous traumatised assassin” storyline was one that felt like a threat. you were undoubtedly taking a risk by working with him, but it was one you were willing to; it may have been twisted, but murder was your forte, and you were searching for a partner.
- over time, you had grown to be less intimidated by him.
- you were now colleagues with him, working on a new assassination.
- shockingly, planning murder took time, and who better to plan it with than the assassin himself? you had spent the past day on a “business trip”, paid for by illumi’s grandfather, where you sized up the area and familiarised yourself with yorknew.
- all for the big night.
- tonight was the day before the murder of the ten dons.
- illumi and kalluto would carry out the murder, while you made sure everything went smoothly, via a small mic attached to his clothes. the entire operation was based on trust, and would therefore be executed like clockwork.
- you had taken the necessary mental images and kept the targets in mind; all that was left was a night at a pre-booked hotel and then it would be go-time.
- you had assumed that the hotel would be high-class, with doormen, perhaps some marble flooring and pillars - it was the zoldycks who were paying, after all, and you knew they had money to spare.
- “we’re here.” illumi stated blankly, face reflecting in the window. admittedly, he did look a little bit like a koi fish.
- you nudged past him to look out of the window, leaning over to get a good view.
- oh.
- it seemed you had made quite the overestimation. it was a simple, plain building with a few stories. no doormen or extravagance could be sighted.
- you supposed keeping a low profile was important, but the depressing accommodation was somehow making you wearier.
- the two of you didn’t exchange any conversation on the way up to your room, but you were used to that.
- you and illumi had met around 5 months ago, and most of it had been comfortable silence. you hadn’t expected it to be like that - in all honesty, you had expected him to kill you - but illumi seemed... calm around you.
- it was probably because you shared such an odd passion with him; the logistics of murder. you assumed it gave him a chance to loosen his harsh demeanour and enjoy himself. the both of you had worked on multiple murders together, focusing on theory and planning, but this was a huge assassination. nevertheless, you knew he could pull it off; illumi was smart, you had to give him that.
- finally, you arrived at your hotel room, sighing from the lengthy stairway winding up to your unnecessarily high room. you assumed it was for safety purposes, but for god’s sake; why did safety have to be so enervating?
- illumi pushed the door open, and you walked in with him. finally, you could catch some rest.
- except, you couldn’t.
- a singular bed placed in the middle of the room.
- “why.” you thought to yourself tiredly.
- you stood there silently, waiting for him to say something.
- then, you remembered that he was illumi. he obviously wouldn’t see anything wrong with the situation.
- the bastard.
- it didn’t help that he gave you no visible reaction when you stared at him with your face scrunched up expectantly, as if to ask what his plan was.
- “is there a problem, y/n?” illumi asked, his tone flat as usual.
- you took a deep, worn out breath, clearing your throat.
- after a bit, you shook your head. this was strictly professional. illumi wouldn’t do anything, because he was illumi. nothing would happen.this was an important night, where rest and a clear mind were essential. blame it on the fatigue, and nothing else. you were just exhausted. there was nothing else to it. nothing.
- “no. i’m just a little tired.” you dismissed.
- a silence skimmed past.
- “my grandfather... he often tends to be absentminded. occasionally, he forgets to do certain things, or plan them correctly, i suppose. you could say this is a prime example of such.”
- “zeno forgot another goddamn bed, hm?” you laughed nervously.
- illumi stared at you once again, blinking a few times, in a methodical manner, face neutral and robotic. you smiled awkwardly and remembered that he was not one to laugh at jokes. or anything, for that matter.
- you wondered if he laughed at bloodshed. or maybe hisoka.
- “i’m going to... go to set up my stuff now.”
- turning your back to illumi, you winced at the uncomfortable air. even after all your time with him, you never learnt to stop trying to lighten the mood. the mood was literally just always unnatural, in some way. that was another one of illumi’s specialties.
- after some time, in which you had finalized tomorrow's plan and each changed into comfortable clothes, you watched illumi tie his hair up from across the room.
- his hair had always fascinated you.
- you had always wanted to touch it. honestly, even when you had first met him, apart from his magnetic eyes, you had been drawn to his hair. you imagined it felt like silk sheets, caressing over one’s hands as smoothly as honey. you were glad he grew it out; in fact, upon seeing his teenage photos, you had laughed so hard you ended up getting a nosebleed from hitting your face. illumi had been left in confusion for a while.
- you realized how random you sounded. why were you reminiscing so much?
- shaking yourself back to your senses, you admired as he artfully twisted his hair into a loose bun, strands of hair cupping his elegant, pale face.
- what a beautiful koi fish.
- most people couldn’t compute that illumi had true, human feelings. after all, it would be hard to believe a man like him felt anything. but, of course, he did, unhealthily so. he channeled all his trauma and hurt into his villainy, and received happiness from his villainy, anger from his villainy and occasionally fear from his villainy.  however, there was one emotion he could never grasp. he hated himself for it, but soon realised he could manipulate his hatred into villainy, too.
- illumi was a man who could manipulate anyone or anything he wished.
- except himself.
- internally, he had always felt at a loss whenever he confronted his emotions. but, after he had met you, something had changed. as he caught you staring at his hair through the hotel mirror, he couldn’t help but feel something small stir inside of his stomach. not evil, not happiness, not hatred, not anger. perhaps, friendship?
- this tinge of new emotion inside of him initially made him feel uneasy, but that worry morphed into giddiness, a childish high buzzing somewhere in his core.
- eventually, he stood up to face you and suggested going to sleep. you checked the time on the wall clock. 8 in the evening. well, illumi had always been particular. you agreed that rest was essential for tomorrow.
- you hesitantly took the left side, and, upon seeing your choice, illumi followed to lie on the right.
- after a few minutes, you looked back at him, noticing illumi fell asleep abnormally quickly. you furrowed your brow quizzically at the rock-like manner he was in. frankly, he looked like a plank when he slept. you almost laughed, but held it in for his sake.
- he had a very specific sleep schedule, as did the other zoldycks. he could go to sleep immediately at his own command, and stayed perfectly still as he did so. he woke up at 5 in the morning every single day, without fail, almost like he had some sort of alarm clock planted in his body.
- looking at him lying there like a block, you smiled softly. illumi was quite the conundrum to you. you often speculated whether he ever got what he deserved; love, affection, anything really. you knew about his past from when he had told you nonchalantly, within a few weeks of your acquaintance. you always hoped he’d find someone to love him, but doubted whether people would bother looking beyond his bleak surface, and into his excellent mind. lost in thought, you found yourself getting drowsier. you also fell asleep generally quickly, limbs aching from the stupid car ride.
- the night passed.
- illumi was the first to wake up at 5am, stoic and in the same place he had fallen asleep in. no surprise there.
- but you.
- that was the first thing he saw when his eyes opened.
- he did not expect you to be lying on him lazily, snuggling into his body, arm and leg comfortably wrapped around his side. you were breathing lightly, face burrowing onto the ridge of his chest.
- i suppose you didn’t expect to be there either, which he realized, but the point still remained.
- why were on you his chest.
- “y/n.”
- no answer.
- illumi could have pushed you away; in fact, he could have blown you 983 metres away (his personal record).
- but he didn’t.
- it wasn’t the thought of disturbing your comfort that stopped illumi from hurling you into oblivion. it wasn’t the fact that he explicitly enjoyed it, either. he remembered that the mission was today; if he were to wake you, and you hadn’t slept enough, you wouldn’t be at your upmost performance.
- the murder of the ten dons was his priority, right? yes. it was. there was no doubt about it. that was the only and final reason he wouldn’t wake you. end of discussion.
- so, illumi stayed there, waiting for you to wake up and get off of him. 30 minutes passed, and he watched you for every single one.
- hard as it was to admit, watching you rise and fall in sync with his chest made the spark of emotion in his core grow fervently. what had that foreign feeling been? yesterday, he had settled at friendship, but now he wasn’t so sure.
- you looked so peaceful while you slept. less confusing. he remembered the time you had accidentally complimented his hair when the two of you had first met. he had found that amusing. he remembered the time you got a nosebleed from hitting your face too hard - it was after laughing at his teenage pictures, which perplexed him greatly. he remembered the times you two had sat together, working and theorizing on missions, accidentally meeting eyes or brushing hands. one time, you had dipped one of his pins in ink and scratched his name on some paper “for fun”. you had handed it to him and, for some unknown reason, the scrap was still tucked safely in his wallet. your unrivaled intelligence, your idiotic sense of humour, your smile, your lack of common sense, your twinkling eyes that so ironically contrasted his, everything. everything crossed his mind while he lay there.
- illumi found it strange how people remembered the oddest things at the oddest times.
- why did he think of that now, as you were sleeping? even worse, on the day of a meticulously planned assassination. why couldn’t he manipulate his emotions to stop fluctuating around you so much?
- it all frustrated him.
- why had he let you call him by “illumi” so quickly? mr zoldyck would have been fine. and why had he been so lenient with your antics? no one else got to touch his pins. why did he feel like keeping you on his chest forever, and keeping you safe? most importantly, why was he thinking about you so much?
- his contemplation came to a halt when he heard you stir a little in your sleep.
-  finally, you’d wake up and he could forget about this entire problem.
- he watched you, expecting you to get up soon.
- you began shuffling around, brushing against his chest, and soon your eyes fluttered open, hazy and glazed over. it almost seemed like you were still in a dream, in some sort of half-sleep.
- “huh?” you whispered quietly, still lying on illumi. you looked up lazily, meeting eyes with him.
- “oh... i get it...” you hummed quietly, falling back onto his chest.
- he furrowed his brows.
- “why are you here?” you hugged him from the side, softly laughing at your ridiculous dream. he tensed up at you embracing him, but soon relaxed after realizing what was going on.
- illumi looked at you, one eyebrow raised. did you... think you were dreaming?
- to be honest, he found it kind of entertaining, the way you were fawning over him. if he let you stay there, he could figure out a lot of things about his newly found emotion. it could be worth it. just not today.
- illumi came back to his senses fairly quickly; you were obviously awake now, so why couldn’t you get off of him already?
- “y/n.”
- “mmm? what? so serious all the damn timeee, illum-”
- “you aren’t dreaming. get off.”
- SHIT
- SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT
- you jolted off him immediately, staring down at illumi zoldyck.
- the real illumi zoldyck.
- oh my god what. what. what. what.
- every nerve in your body began to panic, and, in the stress of trying to find the correct words to say, you just ended up making some sort of incomputable “aaaahhh” noise and jumping off the bed.
-  illumi had finally gotten up and was now staring concernedly at you.
- an awkward pause.
- “let me just start by saying i did not-”
- “y/n. we have more pressing priorities for today. i don’t care.”
- illumi zoldyck had lied. even to himself. he did care. and so what if he ignored it until it festered so intensely inside of him he couldn’t do anything but tell you? he cared about you. and he knew it.
- “ok. you’re right. you’re right! illumi. one question. was i like that the whole night?”
- “i don’t know. i woke up at 5 and you were there.”
- you looked at the clock. it was 6am? what had he been doing for an hour? you opened your mouth to ask but closed it soon after. you recalled your thoughts about illumi growing up void of affection, or love, or appreciation.
- some questions were best left unanswered.
- “how long was i... mumbling like that?”
- “a few minutes.”
- you gulped. there were a few things you had to come to terms with. shutting your eyes firmly, you apologised profusely, annoyed at yourself.
- “y/n. i don’t care.” he lied once again.
- “you’re right!” you rambled - “the ten dons are today! it doesn’t matter what i said... none of it matters, we can both just forget it!”
- you sounded like you were trying to convince yourself more than anyone.
- “so all we need to do is go over the plan one last time, get kalluto, and then we’ll carry it out, and soon enou-”
- “stop it. you’re wasting time. just go and get ready.”
- you sighed and smiled weakly. on the inside, you were sure your soul had died a little.
- while you left to change, overcome by embarrassment, illumi lingered by the bed for a few seconds. he tried to push down whatever he was currently feeling, but it was no use. the feeling in his core had risen up to his throat, a burst of something waiting to leave his lips.
- for the first time in a while, illumi zoldyck smiled. not at murder, or at power, or fulfillment, or achievement, or even villainy.
- illumi zoldyck had smiled at the thought of you.
- let’s just say illumi had trouble focusing on his mission.

Fighting someone in that enlightened edelgard comment and they really pulled the "edelgard's war was necessary because crests bad!!" Bruh
Alright so like... why does Edelgard think Crests bad? What is she willing to propose to society as an alternative to Crests that won't similarly be abused by those with money and power? If Hanneman is able to conduct Crest research and is allowed to build his machines that gets rid of the need for Crests on all routes, even on SS and even if Rhea comes back as archbishop, then why did Edelgard need to start the war if that was her real goal? What problems do Crests specifically and uniquely bring to society?
Because Sylvain, Ingrid, Lorenz, anyone else who feels that they're only good for their Crest or need to marry due to their Crest? They'd literally be in the same position without them, because they're still high-end nobles with pretty titles and nice power that commoners would want a piece of or that their families would marry off to others families for more money and power (or any, in Ingrid's case). Crests change nothing, save for Sylvain getting the nice heir title from this unfair inheritance system over Miklan were it the usual "lol I popped outta Mom first" inheritance system.
Mercedes? Ah yes, because incest would never occur in noble families were it not for Crests, think I read that in my history class before.
Dorothea? Her having a Crest would have actually saved her and her mother (or at least her) from a life of poverty, so oops.
Hanneman's sister? Ah yes, right after the section where my history books told me that incest don't real, it says that women were never ever forced to unhealthily bear multiple children until their husband gets one he wants.
The only ones I can think of that were fucked over specifically and only by specifically and only Crests are Edelgard, Lysithea, and Marianne. The first two are so unbelievably unlikely to happen to anyone in the general Crest-bearing populace as to damn near be laughable - fun as Two Crests AU's are, this shit only happens the twice, once for the setup and once with the refinements from the first. This isn't something most, many, some, a few, or really fuckin' anyone has to deal with, this is something extremely specific to Edelgard and Lysithea. And similarly, Marianne, while facing most of her trauma because of uniquely Crests, only does so because she literally just so happens to be born with the literal one Crest in all of Fodlan that is feared and hated.
Like, Crests could have easily actually been a big deal in Fodlan, but like... damn near anything that could rise from specifically Crests gets taken care of pretty easy lol?? Like, Marianne just needs to beat the shit out of Maurice and she's fine(r). Edelgard and Lysithea's shit is reversible and is able to have its the biggest side effect of having two Crests be erased (for Lysithea, cuz as I've said I don't think Edelgard has any problems with the two Crest shit). Balthus' shit where "Ohhh, people will really fuck over Kupala if they find out it has Chevalier Crest bearers!!" gets solved by the Church itself stepping in and keeping it hush hush for Kupala's safety and that making it to where Balthus' more qualified Crest-less brother gets the inheritance (so much for wanting no one but Crest bearers to rule over Fodlan!). Some bitches literally are completely unaffected by Crests (Hilda, Linhardt, Yuri <- as far as I know, I'm sure there are others).
Hilariously enough, very few people in the cast actually benefit from Crests specifically due to Crests - the only ones I can think of off the top of my head are maybe Lambert (if you wanna count him) and Claude (let him prove his right to inheritance).
Like. Before adopting Marianne, Edmund was able to rise to Margrave through good financial and oratory skills - that's a higher position than Count. Y'know. Like Count Gloucester? Ordelia for all we can surmise has no Crest and bears the same title as Gloucester regardless. Count Rowe in the Kingdom is higher than Baron Dominic - Baron's, like, the lowest fuckin' noble title! Even the Empire, shitty as it is, doesn't have this problem! Bergliez, no Crest, House of Military Affairs for an Empire.
People hear Crests and see them packaged as a unique evil specific to Fodlan by the characters who were born and raised in this society and who have little to no reference to the world outside of Fodlan and so wouldn't know that most of this shit literally happens everywhere and they just, fuckin', forget!! That this shit ain't new!! Crests are just First-Born-Noble Syndrome wrapped in pretty shiny wrapping paper. Petra, a royal from Brigid, literally never mentions Crests, and Claude only does so out of curiosity over them - almost like, as nobility outside of Fodlan, Crests are just weird to them and nothing else! They likely know the same shit would happen to these nobles with or without Crests because they know a world without Crests, unlike those of Fodlan!
Getting rid of Crests seems like it will change a lot of Fodlan... until you remember that they're dying out anyway so Fodlan is already in a transition period where they'd become relics of the past, until you remember that, again, most of the shit wrong that comes with Crests actually comes with nobility in general, until you remember that a majority of the characters either don't care about Crests or are otherwise unaffected by them.
And like, we know that Edelgard doesn't actually give a shit about Crests lmao that is damn sure not a major reason why she started the war, she started the war because she wanted to wear the big girl pants and rule over all of Fodlan and also kill the Nabateans. That's it. No shit about Crests, much as she initially posits as much - notice how that shit falls to the wayside soon as the war's actually in action, it's literally said over and over and over again that Edelgard wants to reunite Fodlan, she wants to conquer the Alliance and Kingdom, she wants to boot the Church, she wants to kill Rhea and the Children of the Goddess; Crests are a footnote in her oh so grand plans. Edelgard didn't start war cuz Crests Bad, she did it because Me Want Be Dictator

Chapter 5: 3-day free trial Day 1
[prev] [next]
Tumblr media
[masterlist]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day 1
A very rare day off. Usually, Sakusa would spend it cleaning his whole house, but this time Kia is around. Does he ask her to help? What does a 30-month old know about cleaning?
The night before, it was chill. Kia slept immediately after eating dinner and bathing, probably because she was tired from the flight. Plus, his parents were there to help him. He starts to think not to let the toddler nap so she’ll sleep immediately.
You are still in Tokyo, processing some papers for work and will arrive 3 days after. Which means, Sakusa has to take care of Kia alone for 3 days. He really has no idea on what to do. You gave him a schedule of Kia’s routines, but he thinks it’s systematically ridiculous. He has no free time at all.
6:30 AM: wake up (don’t let her stay in bed for a long time or you’ll suffer tonight)
7:30 AM: breakfast (she eats solid food and isn’t allergic to anything. she also isn’t picky. just make sure you cut her food into small pieces)
8:00 AM: bath (she loves playing with water. watch her carefully. she might slip and hit her head.)
8:30 AM: household chores (she likes helping with the chores, especially folding clothes and hanging the laundry)
11:30 AM: lunch
1:00 PM: nap time (give her milk. make sure you let her help you with the chores or she’ll not sleep. she has a lot of energy. also, this is your alone time. spend it wisely.)
3:00 PM: wake up. (give her snacks)
7:00 PM: wash.
8:00 PM: dinner.
10:00 PM: sleep.
She’s not as messy as other kids, but she’s still a child, she can’t help it but make mess. Go easy on her.
“Is this how she spends her time?” Sakusa stares at the piece of paper disappointedly. He checks the clock on the wall it’s almost time for Kia to wake up. “Right. Her mom said she’ll call any minute now.”
Sakusa goes to the room and opens the blinds, waking Kia up. She sits up, looking around the unfamiliar room. She sees Sakusa and raises her hands, a sign to lift her up, but he doesn’t understand. “What?”
Kia starts crying, confusing the hell out of Sakusa. He gives her a bottle of milk but she rejects it. She continues to raise her arms, her cries getting louder. Sakusa wants to throw her out of the window, but that would be murder and you will definitely kill him for it.
Kia stops crying then stares at him with teary eyes. They look at each other as if they are competing on a staring contest. And he wins, Kia says what she wants. “Carry.”
“We have to change your diaper first. Then, I’ll carry you.”
“Okay.”
Kia jumps out of bed and runs to the bathroom, Sakusa following behind her in a safe distance. He puts her on the changing station, lying her on her back. He changes the diaper in horror, but Kia is just enjoying the lights in the bathroom.
Not long after having changed her diapers, you call Sakusa. He puts Kia on the high chair, then answers your call. He takes a phone stand and leans his phone on it, so you can talk to your daughter properly. “Mama!” Kia cheers upon seeing your face.
“Baby!” You coo on the other line. “How are you? I miss you!”
‘Already? Pfft. It hasn’t even been 24 hours since you last saw her.’
Sakusa continues to make rice balls. First he makes his, since he is unsure of how much Kia can eat. He puts his finished onigiris aside, then stands behind Kia’s chair to see ask you.
The moment you see him on screen, a blush creeps on your cheeks. He is wearing a loose maroon shirt that shaped his shoulder way too good for your liking. You stare at him without realizing. ‘Has his shoulders always been that broad?’
“Hey, I’m asking you something.” He calls and you snap out of your thoughts. You clear your throat and answer with a hum. He rolls his eyes and repeats his question. “Is this enough rice for Kia?” He tilts the plate of rice, showing it to you.
You act as if you are examining the plate but you are actually too busy staring at his toned and veiny forearms. You nod at him and he leaves the screen again. You pout and forget about Kia who is staring at you. After a while of assessing your face, Kia finally concludes on why you look upset.
“Kyo, go back here. Mama’s sad. She wants to see you, too.”
The room falls silent, and your apartment that is hundreds of kilometers away from them does too. Sakusa, to save you from embarrassment, pretends not to hear Kia’s statement. Then, he hears you speak, “Kia, baby. I have to go to work now. Bye!”
You end the call immediately. Sakusa on the other hand still looks unbothered, but deep down he is smiling like an idiot. But Kia saddens upon seeing the black screen on the device.
“What’s that?” Kia asks out of curiosity and boredom, pointing at Sakusa’s hands that are molding the rice into tiny balls she won’t choke on.
“Your food.”
“What food?”
“Onigiri.”
“Why?”
“What do you mean why?”
“Why Onigiri?”
“What do you want to eat?”
“Onigiri.”
“Then, shut up. You won’t get to eat if you don’t keep quiet.”
“Why should I?”
Sakusa groans, then puts the plate of rice balls down on the counter rather agreesively. Kia’s lower lip quivers, staring at him in guilt. He takes a deep breath in before continuing to shape the ham and cheese as he prays for more patience.
Sakusa places the finished food on her tray, then lifts Kia up of her chair to bring her to the sink. He helps her wash and dry her hands before returning her back to the table. She bows her head, mumbling a soft ‘itadakimasu’ before holding onto her spoon. She attempts to put a piece of carrot on her spoon, but fails miserably.
“Feed me!” Kia announces in which Sakusa responds with a sigh. He leaves his food to feed her. He takes the spoon from her hand and attempts to feed her. He honestly wants to shove it in her mouth, but he doesn’t want a child to die in his house because of choking.
“Don’t make a mess,” Sakusa warns, and she nods. He continues to feed her and she is calm to his surprise. On her last rice ball, Kia looks at Sakusa in anticipation but only to be rewarded by a stare.
Sakusa puts Kia down before he cleans her seat and wash her plate. He continues to eat his and tells her to go to her room. She runs to her room and start playing with whatever toy there is in there. She spots a marker and takes the lid off. She runs to the wall and starts scribbling on it in delight. Sakusa finishes eating and washing with the dishes so he checks up on Kia.
“What are you doing?!” He shouts, seeing the markings on the wall. Kia looks at him in shock, dropping the pen to the ground. She starts crying as Sakusa marches towards her. “Why did you draw on the wall?!”
“I’m sorry!” Kia cries, feeling guilty of what she has done.
“You better be because you just made a mess on my wall!” Sakusa scolds, picking up the pen she just used. He takes the other pens on the table and throws them forcefully in the trashcan. Kia cries even harder which irritates Sakusa. “Shut up!”
Kia stops crying because of his words. “Do you not like Kia?” She asks innocently.
“I don’t like messy children like you,” he answers in a stern manner before he aggressively wipes the ink off the wall with wipes. He looks at Kia, expecting her to cry but she is only staring at the wall.
“I thought papa loves me...” Kia mumbles before sitting down on the floor. Sakusa didn’t hear her words due to the stress that is filling him in. Preoccupied with cleaning, he doesn’t realize Kia staring at the wall unhealthily.
Sakusa finishes and grabs clothes from her drawer and the baby bag you prepared in case they go out. He changes Kia then leaves the room. He places Kia in the highchair again so he can change into his practice clothes.
“I won’t be able to survive being alone with you for anymore time.”
-------
The two enter the gym, Kia garnering everyone’s attention. He instructs her to sit at the bench and not to move unless it’s necessary. Everyone is quiet, confused as hell, and cannot believe what they are seeing. Sakusa Kiyoomi with a child, a child that resembles him way too much.
“Is that your daughter?” Bokuto excitedly asks, the other members are so thankful and ashamed of him for asking the question they all want to ask. “She’s taller than I thought!”
“Did you think she was 1 foot tall or something?” Atsumu remarks, walking closer to the child with Hinata. Kia’s eyes glimmers as she sees them.
She stands on the bench, looking up to them. The volleyball players put their hands on their knees, crouching, to level with Kia’s height. “You’re very tall!” Kia exclaims excitedly.
Hinata blushes at her statement, “I am?” He giggles, lifting Kia up. “You’re so cute!”
Atsumu examines her features silently, glancing at Sakusa to do some comparisons. She smiles at the faux blonde and captures his heart immediately. He clutches on his chest exaggeratedly, making Kia giggle.
“You look like your papa but cuter!” Atsumu coos at her, pinching her cheek.
Kia’s eyes widen in excitement upon hearing the word ‘papa.’ She jumps to Atsumu’s arms, which he luckily catches her. “You know my papa?”
Everyone in the room becomes silent with Kia’s question. Atsumu tilts her head to the side, then looks at Sakusa. He is looking at the court, obviously not paying attention to Kia or what she is saying. “Isn’t he your papa?” Atsumu asks, pointing a finger at Sakusa.
“My mama said papa is tall and handsome with curly hair. He also has black hair and black eyes and fair skin! He is also very tall!” Kia rambles.
Isn’t she describing Sakusa? Everyone in the room thinks.
“But Kyo!” She points at Sakusa who is now staring at her. “He’s a monster!”
Sakusa grabs a volleyball and the team members stop him from hitting Kia with it. He shouts in frustration, leaving the gym. Kia starts crying in fear again and the boys help her quiet down. Atsumu hands her to Hinata before chasing after Sakusa.
Atsumu spots Sakusa at the lockers, sitting quietly on his spot. The blonde sits a bench away from him, giving him enough space. Sakusa looks at him and sighs. “I can’t believe you’re the one I’m talking to.”
“If you prefer to talk with Hinata or Bokuto, I’ll go call them.”
“Please, no. You’re the most sane out of the three.”
“Thanks?” Atsumu chuckles, then waits for Sakusa to say something again. He’s aware of how blunt Sakusa is with his words, but Kia just seem to shut him up. He can’t say anything to her.
“What seems to be the problem?” Atsumu starts, knowing Sakusa won’t say anything if he doesn’t.
Atsumu is seen as asshole by everybody, but he is definitely not a bad friend. Sakusa may not consider him as one, but he does. And he’s more than willing to listen and talk to him.
“Kia. I just don’t really like children.”
Atsumu takes a deep breath in before asking Sakusa a question that can get him killed by the ace. “So why are you trying?”
Sakusa processes his question then laughs. Atsumu is getting scared. He has always seen Sakusa as a psychopath and he is showing signs right now. He is about to flee the room but Sakusa answers him.
“Because I want her mom back.”
But he doesn’t want Kia.
--
After their practice, Sakusa, Bokuto, Atsumu and Hinata decide to eat dinner together. Atsumu lowkey scared for Kia. What if he doesn’t feed her dinner? He’s even thinking of bringing her home until you arrive.
They arrive in Miya Onigiri, the only place Sakusa trusts to dine in. They get seated in the private room, Osamu well-aware of Sakusa’s hate towards crowds. He got surprised about seeing Kia, too, but he didn’t say anything. He gives her a highchair and she thanks him gleefully. He ruffles her hair before helping her up in the chair. After taking their orders, he goes to the kitchen to make it.
Kia sits between Sakusa and Atsumu, while Bokuto and Hinata sit across them. Kia is busy chatting with the boys when Sakusa’s phone starts to ring so he checks it and see that you’re calling. He answers it and hands the phone to Kia.
“Mama!” Kia cheers. “Look! I’ve got new friends!” She shows Hinata and Bokuto on the screen, and your eyes widen. Bokuto quiets down and stares at you in shock as well.
“Akaashi’s cousin!” Bokuto says. “Kia is your daughter too? She’s Omi-kun’s daughter as well!” You chuckle awkwardly until they grey hair boy hits realization. “You said Kia’s father is dead!”
“I never said that!” You reply in defense. Upon hearing your exchange with Bokuto, Sakusa gets bothered. Did you really say he was dead to other people?
“Bokuto don’t shout at my mama like that!” Kia pouts. You call her and tells her to use polite terms with the three since they’re her uncles.
Atsumu laughs at your statement and his deep laugh catches you off guard. Kia shows herself in the camera again and Atsumu is seen too. “We’re at the age that we’re considered as uncles already, huh?”
“Yes, you are.” You clarify and Atsumu scoffs.
“I’m Miya Atsumu by the way,” he introduces and you introduce yourself back. The three of you, with Kia, continue to call as they wait for their food. Atsumu asks questions about you which is annoying Sakusa every time you answer it with ethusiasm. The food arrives so they say their goodbyes, then you end the call as soon as Atsumu says bye, not giving Sakusa the chance to talk to you.
“You can’t use spoon well yet?” Atsumu coos, taking Kia’s spoon. He feeds her as he eats as well, the irritation in Sakusa’s body growing even more.
After eating, it is time to say good bye. And Kia isn’t letting go of Atsumu.
“I wanna stay with you!” Kia cries, clinging onto Atsumu’s neck. Having enough of Kia being way too attached to Atsumu, Sakusa grabs Kia out of the blonde’s grasps, leaving her to cry. She throws punches on his chest which obviously has no effect, but she’s trying okay?
“He’s my papa! Not you!”

BUFFY REWATCH - S04E22 - Restless
Tara: “I think it’s strange. I mean, I think I should worry that we haven’t found her name.”
Willow: “Who, Miss Kitty?”
*shot of their kitten, playing with a ball of red yarn in slow-motion*
Tara: “You’d think she’d let us know her name by now.”
Willow: “She will.
*looking down at Tara*
She’s not all grown yet.”
Tara: “You’re not worried?”
Willow: “I never worry here. I’m safe here.”
Tara: “You don’t know everything about me.”
Willow: “Have you told me your real name?”
Tara: “Oh, you know that.
*Willow smiles, reaches for something. Shot of a paintbrush dipping into ink jars*
They will find out, you know. About you.”
Willow: “Don’t have time to think about that. You know I have all this homework to finish.”
*the camera pulls back so we can see Tara is lying face-down on her bed, naked, and Willow is painting on her back*
Tara: “Are you gonna finish in time for class?”
Willow: “I can be late.”
Tara: “But you’ve never taken drama before.
*shot of Willow dipping the paintbrush again, moving it across to Tara’s back, which is covered with Greek symbols*
Might miss something important.”
Willow: “I don’t wanna leave here.”
*Tara twists back to look at her*
Tara: “Why not?”
*Willow stands up, looking down at Tara. She turns away toward a dark red curtain. Walks over to it*
Willow: “It’s so bright.
*pulls back the curtain to reveal a brightly sunlit desert. The light falls on Tara, who looks over. Looking back at Tara, still holding the curtain open*
And there’s something out there.”
*shot of the desert, straggly plants, rocks. We briefly see something (someone?) moving, then it’s gone. Shot of the kitten stalking forward toward the camera, in slow-motion*
I have been so anxious to get to this episode and write my meta. For all the time I’ve brought up Willow’s insecurities, this is the one and only episode that lays them all bare for everybody to see, if - and this is important -, you are clever enough to decipher the code of visual symbolism and possess the ability of interpretation. Pretty much all of the episode ‘Restless’ requires you to interpret what you see. You’re not told straight-forwardly what the dreams, each of the core 4 Scooby members have, are about and that’s precisely what I love about it and why it is probably my most favourite episode of the whole show.
Now, obviously, I’m only going to be talking about Willow’s dream in the episode because if I were to do an analysis of every character’s dream, I’d be here all day and this recap would be incredibly long. I would suggest watching YouTuber Passion Of The Nerd’s analysis for it to get the whole picture. Much of what I will write here will draw from that as I agree with quite a lot of it and think it makes a lot of sense in understanding each character. Every character has fears, worries and insecurities, and that’s what these dreams are specifically about, but Willow’s go much deeper than can be witnessed in all of the show due to her “hiding” them under a “thinly-veiled” persona of who she wants to be. For the most part, you only get to see who she wants you to see. It is not until this episode that all of Willow’s real thoughts and feelings take center-stage - quite literally. There’s a reason why both her dreams in ‘Nightmares’ and ‘Restless’ have her performing on stage. The former, being more about stage fright and about wanting to go unnoticed. The latter, about acting like something she’s not and “putting on a show” of confidence and security to the other characters, who she fears knows about “the real her”, and the audience watching her. Now, “the real her” is as ambiguous as this entire dream sequence is - meaning: it depends on your point of view who Willow is. And this is why I clash with @confusedguytoo about Willow often regarding my views and opinions on Willow. They see something different to me. However, I’ll let them better explain that if they so wish to. I’ll only explain what I see - in Willow - and in this episode.
I relate Willow’s insecurities to her accumulation of power and need for control. For me, much of what I interpret in ‘Restless’ ties in and very much foreshadows Willow’s magic addiction and ‘Dark Willow’ storyline in Season 6 because, to me, Dark Willow is less about the Magicks and more about power and rage, (Anya interjects here: “and vengeance, don’t forget vengeance”). So I will go through the meaning of Willow’s dream in ‘Restless’ from the way I interpret it and in my own words:
Starting off, we have Willow sat on Tara’s bed with Tara (well, actually Tara is laying down on it and Willow is sat on it.) Tara is turned away from Willow as Willow paints some writing on her bare back (see Passion Of The Nerd’s analysis to know what is being written because it’s very significant to the scene.) This part of Willow’s dream has more to do with Tara than Willow, but it’s important to remember that it’s all from Willow’s perspective. Willow worries that there’s something about Tara that Tara isn’t telling her. Something she’s not “facing her” with and letting her know bothers her. But other than that - she has no worries. She feels safest with Tara and, as I’ve previously mentioned in another recap, is much more invested in the relationship they share than Tara is at this point in it. And the scales don’t actually equal in that because Willow becomes uncomfortably and unhealthily invested in that she starts to abuse Tara in such a way where she wants to make sure Tara pays the most attention to her. And magic has always been the best way for Willow to have “her will be done” well before Tara entered the picture of her life. And so, she knows it’s her bread and butter to getting her way.
Moving on, we now see Willow walking the halls of Sunnydale high school and Xander and Oz are in the dream. No Tara. Meaning this part of the dream is something passed in her life but still very present in her mind. Although this is of the past, the dialogue between all 3 characters is about Willow’s then-future. There is mention of Tara and of the drama class they will take in college. I interpret this to mean that Willow can’t entirely let go of what was to focus on what is or what will be. Hence why Oz is in the scene and why he says “Oh, I’ve been here forever” when Willow asks him if he’s ever took the drama course - at which point we see Willow trying to take something out of her locker but can’t seem to get it open. I interpret this to mean she’s locked out and cannot access that part of her life anymore despite still thinking about it, and specifically Oz, in it. You see, Oz may have followed Willow to college, but he never stayed. Their relationship was only one that existed in high school and Willow has regretfully moved on from Oz and entered a new relationship that exists in college and will last beyond that. She cannot access her high school life anymore. She cannot access Oz anymore. Thus, their love affair was tied to their high school life and Willow no longer goes there.
At this point we see Willow walk out of the frame, leaving Xander and Oz behind, to stand backstage of a production in their drama class - of which Willow has never even rehearsed for and hasn’t even had her first drama class yet. And the characters of Harmony, Riley and Buffy are dressed up in costume ready to perform the play and tell Willow that she’s late but she’s “already” dressed in “costume” and “already” in “character”. Giles then enters the scene as the stage director and his dialogue in rallying his actors to get ready to perform reveals that this play is all about Willow. In fact - she’s the main character in it (go figure) and everybody in the audience, including the cast, is there to watch her perform.
“Acting is not about behaving, it’s about hiding. The audience wants to find you, strip you naked, and eat you alive, so hide.” - Giles.
Next Willow goes behind the stage curtains (which are red to represent a vagina, apparently, according to Whedon in the commentary track for ‘Restless’) and finds Tara among them with her who tells her that things aren’t going very well. Willow says that drama class is not being done in the “proper” way, she doesn’t know what to do, and the play’s starting soon. Tara then tells her that the play’s already started and that’s not the point anyway. Willow doesn’t understand. As the play happens without Willow, Tara disappears, and what was following Willow attacks her.
Buffy saves her and we go back to Sunnydale high school. This time we’re in a classroom. It isn’t clear which class but it’s presumably English as Willow reads out a book report on ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’. Before she does that though, Buffy tells Willow that the play is long over and asks her why she’s still in “costume”. Willow responds that it’s not a costume, she’s just in her outfit of the day. Buffy tells her that everybody already knows about her and to take her “costume” off, to which Willow panics and refuses. Buffy rips her “costume” off of her to reveal her wearing the clothes she was wearing on the very first episode of the show. Now, Willow stands in front of a full classroom of her peers (both from high school, college, and the Scooby Gang) mocking her for her appearance and her reaction to being totally exposed to what she believes everybody perceives of her as the truth of who she really is. Still a shy loser. The dream sequence ends with what was following Willow and attacked her throughout; the first Slayer sucking out her soul and leaving the real Willow paralyzed in her sleeping state. Unable to escape from her personal Hell.
So what does it all mean? Well, it really all depends on the way you interpret her dream. Some things about Willow and what she thinks and feels are clear, some are not. But how I’ve interpreted her dream in ‘Restless’ is that Willow, despite appearing a much more confident, secure and assertive person, doesn’t have any belief in herself when it comes to her value and requirement of her from her peers, friends and lovers… Or everyone that’s not her. Her need for validation in who she is and what she can do from everyone. Her worthiness in her work. Her ability and capacity to love. Her appearance to whoever perceives her. Especially the ones she loves. And her insecurities run so deep in this that even she doesn’t recognize them. She’s not aware to how much she’s acting like someone she’s not in order to please, in order to have attention, in order to feel of use to people. Now, it is not that she is still the loser. She’s definetly evolved into a much more worldly and well-rounded person since her high school days. Stronger, smarter, wiser, and more confident. It’s just she doesn’t believe in it and she absolutely fears no one else does either. In her mind she’s still the lonely nerd and she’s doing the most to make sure people don’t see that. Even though she has the belief that they do and always will. So her need for power and control all stems from these deep unconscious insecurities. Magic just happens to be the most effective tool for her to accumulate this. And she only becomes addicted to it in Season 6 because she relies on it to make her special. Even though she’s special as she is - with or without magic - to which Tara does her damnedest to make her aware of and believe. And she’s about the only person in the show that achieves it - until, of course, her death… Which, of course, triggers Dark Willow.
Willow's need for power and control as Dark Willow is channelled through rage and pain and so no amount of it is enough. Willow isn’t enough without Tara. None of these fears, worries and insecurities are the truth of Willow. But getting her to believe in and trust in that is next to impossible. Tara is only capable of it because she’s the one thing in the show that Willow truly loves. Is truly committed to. Is truly invested in. And she feels like she means and is nothing without her, without her love, without her attention, without her validation, without her light. She abuses her the most because she’s the one person in all of the show that she covets the most. That she doesn’t want to be without, that she feels the safest and is the happiest with. That she won’t let leave her life. Yes, it’s unhealthy. But true love can be when there’s so much inner turmoil. When there’s such a storm inside threatening to be unleashed with every bad day. Every screw up. Every "spaz" feeling. That's what it stems from. A loser mentality.
That is Willow’s entire predicament throughout the whole show and why her character representation, development and evolution is the greatest, the most profound, the most detailed, the most poignant. This is a character that you absolutely fall in love with very early on. To see them go from that gentle-natured, quirky, inspiring and endearing person to one of the most abusive, frustrating, corruptive and destructive people is hard. Fortunately, they’re given the endgame they deserve and become the hero. They learn to balance both sides to who they are - the dark and the light - and they become exactly who they want to be. Someone of great power and control. Someone that is valued and loved. Someone that matters. Whether she believes it or not is up to you. 😉

What was the last song you listened to? Definitely a BTS song but I can’t tell you which. I was listening on my work laptop which I’ve since shut down and I am not opening that shit back up just to answer this hahahaha.
Are you one of those lucky people with 20/20 vision? Ah, not at all. My eyesight went to shit when I was 9 and it only worsens every year. I can’t even read anything from my laptop if I take off my glasses.
Do you share your birthday with a celebrity? The Queen, if she counts. And that X-Men dude - James McAvoy is his name, I think.
Have you ever made a complete fool of yourself in public, on purpose? Probably. Nothing recent but I’m fairly sure this has happened.
Is there a magazine you get monthly? No, I was never subscribed to magazines.
What is the last thing you read? A work email. Is fashion one of your interests? Never really was. I like learning what styles - that I can afford, lol - are trending but it’s never reached a point wherein I feel the need to follow high fashion shows and such.
Describe your current outfit: It’s loungewear and nothing remarkable at all. I stayed home the whole day.
Are you currently pleased or annoyed with your hair? I’m fine with it. My mom is so unnecessarily annoyed with how my roots have gotten a lot longer and she keeps nagging at me to dye it a different color already haha but I honestly don’t see a problem with it.
Have you ever wanted to be famous? Uh, not Hollywood-levels of famous at least. It’d be cool to get a following for something I do - like the idea of starting a vlogging channel and having actual people subscribe to it and want to follow my videos would be kind of cool? - so I guess what I’m saying is if I were to become a famous I’d like for it to happen in a very subtle, lowkey way. I don’t feel the desire to be any bigger than that.
If you were to move out right now, do you think you would be successful? Not at all. I’d ask for my parents in an instant ha.
Are you overwhelmed with the thought of the future? No. I’m happy to go with the flow and see where the wind takes me.
Do you prefer to pay in cash or credit cards? Neither. I do cashless, so I have this e-wallet account and just pay with the QR code thingies that are in nearly every shop/restaurant at this point. I do keep a stash of cash at all times though just because there are still a handful of places out there that don’t do online payments.
When was the last time you hung with your friends and what did you do? Two Saturdays ago I had dinner with Sofie and Angela as one last hurrah before Sofie moves to Brighton. Then after that, Angela, Hans, and I hit Pop-Up for a few drinks.
When was the last time you spoke to the last person you kissed? Sometime in December two years ago I think? Can’t even remember.
Your opinion on people who live every day like it’s their last? It’s great that they have the privilege to.
Where was the last place you went out to eat and what did you have? Just Starbucks lol. I had a ham and cheese croissant.
Is watching TV a big thing for you? It’s not, and I never really was a movie/series kind of person. I do have a couple of variety shows that I like to follow, but I never watch full episodes and just go for snippets on YouTube. Have you ever heard the belief that all Canadians live in igloos? No. Where do you download your music from? I don’t download music; I just have everything streamed on Spotify.
Do you ever use the aid of Google Translate? I mean yeah, if I come across something in an unfamiliar language then that’s really the default way to go for me. For Korean though I use Papago since it’s far far faaaaar more accurate than Google.
Is there anyone in your life who is unhealthily addicted to something? I mean I can say this about me with BTS and all my friends who are into BTS...
What’s that one song they constantly play on the radio that you hate? I haven’t played the radio in a while and have no clue what the top mainstream songs (besides BTS’ lol) now are.
Do you know someone who is creepily possessive? Used to. But I’ve cut ties with them.
Have you ever been your friend’s shoulder to cry on? Sure.
Are your teeth perfectly straight? No, my front teeth aren’t. Do you think you’ll eventually find that special someone? I don’t know. But I’ve also come to terms with the fact that I will be okay even if I ultimately don’t get to find whoever that is. I don’t think I’ll ever want to be in another relationship anyway.
Grab your keys and tell me what each one is for. One is for my car and the other one is for our main door.
Do you have any money on you right now? I don’t think so. I used my last couple of P20 bills to pay the tricycle that I took yesterday. I MEAN I probably have coins????? but I wouldn’t know how much they would be in total.
Have you ever written a fictional story? Yeahbutdon’tremindme.
What is your wine of choice, if any? I don’t know shit about wine to know which one I prefer. I don’t even like wine hahaha but sometimes I’ll drink it in social settings.
Is your shower big enough to fit two people into? Ever done that? Yep and yep.

Now that it's canon and I've talked it through with @redshift-corridor I think I'm gonna share my Robbie's eating problem headcanon.
Big big big TW for eating disorders (in detail), throwing up, passing out, being unhealthily thin and having near death experience
Smaller TW for drug and alcohol use
All of this will be under the cut!
Robbie Canonically having a problem with food kinda got me back into the HC that I made a good while ago. Because it was such a small HC that I was thought was very unlikely in the long term, I didn't put much thought into it.
I have now put some thought into it
After doing research into Eating Disorders, there is one by the name of ARFID, which stands for ‘Avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder’. It’s pretty much an umbrella term for a lot of unspecified EDs so has a lot of signs (not all of them will apply to the person). The traits I took note of were
Missing meals completely, especially when busy with something else.
Finding it difficult to recognise when hungry.
Feeling full after only a few mouthfuls and struggling to eat more.
Taking a long time over mealtimes/finding eating a ‘chore’.
Weight loss
This was definitely what I associated with Robbie.
This is a headcanon for a different post but It’s vital to know mental health is not taken seriously in my version Hyrule, It’s not taken at all. There are no therapists, no doctors, nothing.
It starts in his early childhood. He was never much on an eater as a kid, only getting through a bit of breakfast and lunch before saying he wasn't hungry for dinner. That was more or less fine though. He had a few snacks throughout the day and was a small boy anyway, his parents never really caught on.
It was moving out that became a problem. Now he didn’t have his parents to remind him to eat, he didn’t. He would have a meal here and there but it was a smaller amount than a grown man needed. His body adjusted to it, his stomach shrinking in size to regulate the lack of food. Then he meets Purah and it all goes down hill. There is a thing, that while isn’t a symptom of ARFID, I do associate with Robbie. He doesn’t like to eat around others. It takes him a long time to be able to feel comfortable enough to do that. Him and Purah move in together straight away, and he does end up getting comfortable, but straight after they are thrown into a war, which is where the big problem starts.
Onto the bulk of it.
No one at work really notices that this is an issue because no one knows him all to well, they all just assume he doesn’t have Lunch. Purah obviously knows and she already concerned. Not a huge amount but enough to give him gentle reminders to eat, his answer to that is ‘thanks doll, but I ain’t too hungry’.
Another HC that is kind of important is my Robbie both drinks alcohol and smokes herb religiously. If he’s not working he’s drunk or high or still working. He has a very high alcohol tolerance, so it takes him a lot to get drunk, but because he’s drinking on an empty stomach, the alcohol comes back up after every couple of drinks. And with smoking, Herb (here's some info on herb) makes you really hungry which is great! He’s eating! Then Purah realises its the only time he’s eating, which is a bit of an issue.
This is when he starts to pass out and throw up. He passes out from hunger every couple of days but recovers from in really quick. He’s back up in an hour. It becomes so frequent however that employees (that aren’t Purah) just move him to the closest wall and carry on working. He throws up literally every time he eats when he’s sober because his body is reacting badly to the sudden intake of food.
Purah then bans him from fieldwork due to sickness. If he faints on the field, whatever he’s doing isn’t going to stop for him, and she is not letting her best friend die, especially on her hands. So he was tied to his desk. That means he’s getting very little exercise as field work was his only form of it. And due to field work he was a very built person. When that stopped, he lost muscle mass and Purah saw how bad he looked. He was gaunt in the face, his arms and legs looked like they could snap at any moment. He looked old and skinny and it was a ungodly sight.
Then the big thing happened. The final battle was taking place as they spoke which meant they had been slumped under with work. They had no time off, which meant no recreational drugs like herb, which meant no eating. Robbie hadn’t eaten for about 2 weeks. Purah thought he was doing well, every time she asked him, ‘did you eat?’, he’d lie and say yes just to get her off his back. And he had been so high of off adrenaline from work, he hadn’t passed out. From an outsider’s perspective, he was improving. Then he passed out again. Then he didn’t wake up after the hour. Many workers believed he was in a Coma, as he was clearly still alive but unresponsive. After 2 days he finally woke up, and Purah had had enough. She was ready to snap, he had lied to her face multiple times and could’ve nearly died.
She finally makes him visit Mipha (who becomes a doctor after the calamity) , who sends him to Gerudo town who harbours the only family of mental health professionals in Hyrule (who are very underground as they aren't trained). They keep him with them for a few days to start him off. He gets a food diary and is told to try and maintain a diet of two small snacks a day. Just to get his stomach used to food again. From that they plan to build up his diet. He never gets to 3 meals a day. The most he has is a morning snack (which is clearly breakfast but he refuses to call it that) and an evening meal. It takes him about 40 minutes to eat his morning snack (two slices of toast) and an hour and a half to two to eat his evening meal.
He never gets back to where he was. To as strong as he used to be. After his body gets used to food, he takes training back up. He begins to train with Impa but she's pushy and demanding and he's stubborn and weak so they butt heads a lot. Instead Impa changes places with Link, who is kind, patient and motivating. Robbie slowly starts to build up his strength (and in turn back up his battle skills). His body is still thin but he's getting better, and the steps count, no matter how big they are
I know that was incredibly dark but a lot of the best headcanons are in my opinion. I made sure to do my research on the topic but if I got anything wrong please correct me!

when all your heroes get tired (i’ll be something better yet)
She realizes Jake and Amy have never gotten to keep anything about their relationship secret; not their pining, not becoming a couple, not getting engaged, or even trying for a baby. She supposes they deserve to keep something to themselves for once, even if they’re worthless at it.
Or, Rosa has always been strangely involved in Jake and Amy's relationship, and the two of them becoming parents doesn't appear to change this.
read on ao3 ✨
...
“You’re really not going to drink that?”
Amy gives the glass of Shaw’s finest - and only - charbonnay a look like she's worried it will bite her.
They’re having a celebration, Holt has announced, to one month without Madeline Wuntch. Then he’d seemed teary by those words, telling the squad it was also to honor her memory. No one’s certain what's going on, but no one minds the free alcohol either.
Except, it seems, Amy.
 “I’m driving.”
“Don't you and Jake always take an Uber home?”
“We’re trying to save money.”
“For what?”
“Fertility treatments are expensive,” she says, too quickly and too comfortably. “I don't want to talk about it, Rosa.”
Rosa knows she’s being rude, but she can't help it. She had to be sure. She’s both a detective and a master of secret-keeping, skilled enough to sense from fifty feet away when someone else is guarding them, and she's had a feeling about this particular secret for weeks.
She’d give herself credit, but it’s not like it’s been difficult to figure out. Amy literally told Rosa the day after she and Jake decided to start trying, whispering the words to her with a giddy smile as soon as they were alone in the break room. It became public knowledge rather quickly, and it’s not like the couple was working hard on keeping it a secret when they got wasted during Hitchcock’s wedding, high-fived after Amy’s drunken toast, and proceeded to try and fuck in the guinea pig-closet.
(Honestly? Rosa was impressed.)
They took a break from it shortly after that. Then, Amy started eating some kind of hormonal stimulation medication and morphed into one of the most emotional, irritable Amy-s Rosa had ever seen. Then she got weird.
It started with her and Jake avoiding Shaw’s. Sometimes Jake would show up to have a drink or two with Charles, but he'd never stay longer than half an hour. Terry asked about it once, joking that he wondered whether Amy just didn't like the squad anymore, at which point Jake laughed nervously and changed the topic.
Now, Rosa’s noticed that Amy’s coffee intake has gone down from three or four cups a day to one and a half at max. She makes a point of sitting as far away from Boyle and his lunches as possible. She’s begun to seem distant, always slightly distracted in conversation, and she gravitates towards Jake even more than usual. Several times now, Rosa’s found them in a corner of the corridor, whispering together and stopping the moment they notice her.
So yeah, she’s figured their secret out alright, and no, she doesn’t believe they’re planning to adopt a monitor lizard and that’s why Jake was searching baby names on his computer the other day.
What Rosa doesn’t understand is why Amy doesn’t tell her. She can keep a secret. She was the one who bought every kind of pregnancy test she could find in the bodega when Amy was freaking out at the manhunt, and the one who listened when she finally admitted that trying to conceive was starting to stress her out. If Amy can share something so personal with her, venting her little heart out over a drink in a lone corner of Shaw’s late one evening, Rosa doesn't get why she can't share this.
“So you're doing the treatments, then?”
“I just said I don't want to talk about it,” Amy snaps, then sighs and leans her head in one hand. “Sorry. Tired.”
“You’ve taken a bunch of days off recently, haven't you?”
“I had a family emergency,” she says, and Rosa knows she's lying through her teeth. No one ever uses that line when they're really having a family emergency. “Hey, why are you interrogating me?”
“Just making conversation,” Rosa shrugs. If Amy can lie, so can she. “You want a soda or something instead?”
“I’m good. Thanks for the gesture, though.” She lifts the wine glass in her hand, still looking at it warily. “I’ll just... give this to Jake. Talk to you later?”
“Sure. Later.”
Amy gives her a careful smile, sliding off the barstool and heading towards the table where Jake has joined Terry, Sharon, and the Captain. Rosa watches as Jake makes space for her, his whole demeanor lighting up when he sees her. She places the glass next to his beer, whispering something underneath her breath, and Jake nods before taking it from her and swallowing half of it in quick sips. It’s not even subtle, Rosa thinks.
She's just about to wonder where Charles is and why he isn’t in that same booth asking overly invasive questions when he joins her on the same barstool Amy just left.
“Hey, Ro-ro.” He must’ve had a few drinks already, she deduces from the nickname.
“I’ve told you never to call me that unless you want your tires slashed.”
Charles ignores her. “You're noticing it too, right? With Amy?”
“You mean her acting even weirder than normal? Yep. Pretty sure everyone’s noticed.”
An elated grin appears on Charles’ face, so wide it shows his teeth. Rosa scrunches her nose. “I think I know why.”
“It’s really not hard to guess.”
“That's not why I know!” The shrill, drunken voice earns them a confused glance from Jake, and Rosa shoots Charles a warning glare to make him lower his volume. “Sorry,” he whispers. “It's just - I woke up one night, and I knew.”
“That you're unhealthily obsessed with your best friend's marriage and it's creepy?”
“Pfft. No. I already knew that. I woke up, and I could feel it. Amy’s -”
“Pregnant, yeah. We all figured it out.”
“I can sense it, Rosa.” He gives her a serious nod, the eye contact almost unnerving. “This is not about some groundless guess, some circumstantial evidence… this is real.”
“... yeah. So?”
“So? So! We have to tell them we know! I don't understand why they're keeping this to themselves!”
Rosa bites her lip. She knows where Charles is coming from. She was thinking it too, watching her best friend get nervous just from holding a glass of wine and scrambling to come up with a fake excuse to avoid it. She doesn't get why this has to be a secret. Everybody knows they've been trying, and it's so obvious something is up that even Hitchcock and Scully seem to be taking notice at this point. She could walk over to that table right now and tell Jake and Amy she knows, everyone knows, and they don’t have to pretend or keep this a secret when everyone is happy for their sake.
And yet Rosa stays where she is, because while she laughs at their futile attempts of keeping it on the down-low, she knows why.
It feels like it’s never going to happen at this point, Amy had whispered to her just two months ago. Like it’s not meant to be.
That’s bullshit, Rosa replied, but Amy shook her head.
She knows this has been a long journey for Jake and Amy. She also knows the fear that comes with gaining something you’ve spent a long time fighting for, then worrying that the universe is messing with you, and you’ll wake up tomorrow finding it was all a dream. There’s a reason Rosa’s kept nearly all her relationships secret until her partners have been begging to meet the squad, and it goes beyond her just being a private person.
She realizes Jake and Amy have never gotten to keep anything about their relationship secret; not their pining, not becoming a couple, not getting engaged, or even trying for a baby. She supposes they deserve to keep something to themselves for once, even if they’re worthless at it.
“We can’t tell them we know,” she decides. Charles opens his mouth to protest, but Rosa hushes him.
“But -”
“Nope, Boyle. Look, I get that it's obvious, but it's their choice. Just because you told everyone the moment you decided to adopt doesn't mean Jake has to tell every perp he arrests that he's going to be a dad.”
Charles looks down at his shoes and swallows the last of his free wine. “I just want to celebrate with them. Seven years I’ve waited for this - ”
“You’ll get to celebrate with them. They can't keep it a secret forever. Maybe they're just waiting until the twelve-week mark or something.” Rosa takes a swig of her whiskey. “It can't be that much longer anyway. She's going to start showing at some point, right? Makes no sense to hide it from us after that. I mean, what’s she going to do? Wear a hazmat suit?”
Charles sighs. “Yeah, yeah. You're right.”
He gives Jake and Amy a longing look. Jake has his arm around Amy now, and she’s resting her head on his shoulder, eyes closed like she’s moments from falling asleep. Jake whispers something to her, lips brushing against her forehead, and she blinks before mumbling something back. Small, tender gestures of affection, the kind that would drive Rosa crazy if it was anyone else, but ones she’s gotten used to with them. After the stress and lack of romance Amy described to her during the months they were trying, it even makes her happy to see.
It must be making Charles happy, too, because he’s tearing up.
“Anyway,” he says before Rosa can tell him to stop crying. “I’m going to go vent about this over the phone to Genevieve so I don’t go crazy. Good talk, Ro-ro.”
“Don’t”, she warns him, but he’s already halfway out the door.
Jake and Amy stand up only a minute after, grabbing their jackets and saying their goodbyes. Amy meets eyes with Rosa for a second, mouthing a quick bye, and Rosa nods in return. She watches them as they make their way out of the bar, arms still around each other, and hides a smile when she sees Jake’s hand rest softly against Amy’s stomach through her sweater. It's only a second before Amy moves it away, looking around in fear that someone will have noticed, but it’s enough for Rosa to know.
She might be a good detective, but Jake and Amy also happen to be the world’s worst secret-keepers.
          ...
There was more than one reason as to why Rosa Diaz dropped out of medical school, but right now, as she’s flipping through the pages of the very detailed and very graphic book she found on Jake’s desk, she can only remember the one.
It was the second day on her final rotation in third year - obstetrics and gynecology - and for some reason, her supervisor thought it’d be a useful and educational experience for her to be part of a birth. She wouldn't have to do anything, just observe and learn. Not one to complain, Rosa had accepted, put on her gloves, and entered the delivery room with a forced upbeat smile on her face.
At the end of the day, that smile had since long been wiped off, as had what felt like a bucket of blood, goo, and other equally gross, slimy stuff. Also, Rosa had dropped out of medical school.
She’d observed during surgeries, been puked on by sick and screaming children, and once met a patient with a broken arm where the bone was sticking out, but childbirth had been the final straw. Three years of medical school and thousands of dollars in student debt went down the drain. She applied to business school in hopes of making up the money and told herself she hadn’t been that crazy about med school in the end. Having to put on a smile and be polite to needy patients wasn’t her thing anyway, and at least in business school, people were upfront about being jerks.
Sixteen years had passed since the day Rosa almost threw up from watching the so-called miracle of life. Tonight, it seemed she was about to unwillingly witness it again.
A drawn-out, pained moan brings Rosa back to reality, where Amy has since long given up all attempts of hiding her contractions. She glances at her watch, grimacing as she realizes it's the third contraction in five minutes coming to an end. Amy's started leaning with her elbows on the pool table for the duration of them, muttering a creative string of curses in mixed English and Spanish, and it might have looked funny if it wasn't seeming like this baby was about to be born in the break room.
“Fuck this shit,” Amy mumbles, and Rosa can only agree. “Fuck everything about this. This wasn't how it was supposed to - fuck.” She goes down on her elbows again, swaying from side to side. “Fuck, fuck, fuck.”
“Well worded.”
“Shut up.”
“They're getting worse?”
“Mm-hmm.”
All traces of the confident sergeant that insisted she didn’t need to go to the hospital, who’s spent the blackout answering every offer to help with a razor-sharp remark about how they could help her best by following her orders, seem to have disappeared. When Amy exhales, Rosa can see tears in her eyes, a reserved expression of panic amid the frustration.
“This wasn’t how it was supposed to be,” she repeats as she sits down on the well-stained couch. “Look. I wasn’t even that picky, okay? I didn’t need a super wholesome and peaceful dream experience or anything. As long as everything went well, the baby was okay and I was okay. But I wanted a hospital,” she sniffles. “And I wanted Jake there. I didn’t think that was too much to a-aa…”
She leans against the side of the couch this time, closing her eyes and gritting her teeth through another contraction. Rosa feels helpless. It’s not a feeling she has often, and it’s not one she's a fan of. She reaches out to gently pat Amy’s back, but it feels awkward, so she stops.
“It wasn’t too much to ask,” she says. “But you’re not going to make it to the hospital. So we're going to need another plan.”
“The firefighters.” Amy blushes. “I know we hate them, but…”
“They’re basically a bunch of glorified EMTs who sleep in bunk beds. Meaning, they can deliver a baby in an emergency.”
Amy nods, drawing a shaky breath and rubbing her hand against the top of her stomach. “I don’t want to do this to him, Rosa.”
“What do you mean?”
“What if this doesn’t go well? What if he won’t be okay? What if something happens and it’s my fault because I couldn’t go to the hospital? What if this makes me a terrible mom?”
Amy’s eyes are wide and she’s chewing on her lip, and Rosa thinks she would start braiding her hair if it wasn't already in a messy ponytail. Most of her worries sound like straight-up insanity to Rosa’s ears, but she supposes that wouldn’t be the right thing to tell Amy at this moment.
“You think you’re the first woman ever to give birth outside of a hospital?” She asks instead. “Because you’re not. That baby’s going to be fine. He’ll probably plop right out onto the floor -”
“Oh my god, don't let him touch the floor!”
“Fine. No floor. Whatever. But you can do this.” She stares right back at Amy and channels all the persuasion she has inside of her. “Okay?”
Amy hiccups. “I don’t like it.”
“Yeah, well, neither do I.”
Amy groans and stands up to lean against the pool table again, doing the same rhythmic swaying with her hips. A uniformed officer gives her a curious look as he walks past.
“It’s what we’re doing, though. So get it together.” Rosa regrets it the moment she says it and Amy freezes. For a split second, Rosa wonders if she’s going to punch her, or at the very least yell something, but Amy just looks surprised before letting out a noise sounding vaguely like a cackle.
“Did you just tell me to get it together?”
“No. Yes. Maybe.” Rosa shakes her head. “Just - stay here while I go get a firefighter. Try not to give birth while I’m gone.”
Three firefighters are still hanging around the bullpen, drinking coffee from paper cups and laughing at some anecdote. Rosa scrunches her nose at them from a distance. She wonders why she didn't force Amy into a car to the hospital hours ago, but it's too late now. No matter how much she hates the fire department and how humiliating she finds it to have to ask for their help twice in one day, she loves her friend just that little bit more. Marginally, but still more.
In an ideal world, Rosa would have wished a luxurious birthing suite with a wide range of pain relief, some nerdy relaxing music like the Harry Potter soundtrack, skillful doctors, and Jake there for her best friend to go through something as terrible as labor with - but since none of that seems to be in the realm of possibility anymore, the least she can do is make sure there’s some kind of a medical professional there. She owes Amy that much.
Rosa grabs the arm of the firefighter standing closest to her. He’s short but muscular with a beard that reminds her of a childhood best friend’s stay-at-home dad, giving out a caring and reliable energy in the midst of the precinct’s inferno. He feels safe, and although Rosa’s never given birth herself, she imagines that’s a valuable trait for the situation.
“Need any help?” Even his smile is like taken out of a pamphlet for parent cooperatives and terrace-houses with collective barbeques.
“I do. Have you ever delivered a baby before?”
“Oh, that's a funny story!” He chuckles. “I’ve actually delivered three. They're great stories, you should hear -”
“Cool, cool, cool, don't have time, don't care. Wanna deliver a fourth? Like, tonight? Right now?”
Without waiting for a reply, she drags him to the break room.
Judging from the strained expression and eyes clenched shut, Amy’s in the middle of a contraction when they return.
“I found a firefighter.” Rosa points to their new companion. “This is, uhm -”
“Curt.”
“Huh. Anyway, he's delivered three babies before, and they're all fine. Well, I think. He can help. Right?”
“Absolutely!” Curt nods. “You’re Amy, right? Tell me where we're at.”
“Contractions at one to one and a half minute apart, lasting about thirty to forty seconds,” Rosa fills in for her friend, pointing to her watch.
“Can you talk through them?” Curt looks to Amy, who shakes her head with her lips pressed together before exhaling.
“Not anymore. There's -” She screws up her face. “Ouf. Pressure.”
“Pressure like you need to push?” Curt’s voice is calm, even though Rosa can't for the life of her understand how. Amy nods shortly.
Rosa stares at her. “Are you sure?”
Amy stares back with a death glare, and Rosa holds up her hands in retreat.
“Okay, not going to question you on that. Cool.”
“Well, that answers my question,” says Curt, the most cheerful one in the room by far. “I’ll get my emergency kit and we'll make some space on the couch. Let's do this!”
“I'm scared,” Amy whispers once they're alone again. Her timid voice is a sharp contrast to her earlier groans and screams. Rosa looks at her and sees the same Amy she comforted during long nights when Jake was in Florida, the Amy that shines through every time her husband's in danger again, no matter how hard she tries to suppress it. Rosa's never been great at comforting, but she could never leave her best friend like this. That instinct is just enough to overpower some of her hate for the situation.
“I know,” she says, stroking away a few pearls of sweat from Amy’s forehead. “But you’re going to be okay.”
“You really think so?”
She nods, and it seems to be a relief to Amy, who manages a tentative smile in return. “Okay. Let’s do this.”
In the end, it’s probably Hitchcock and Scully - and maybe Lieutenant Peanut Butter - who end up being the most unlikely heroes of the day, but when the ambulance finally arrives to relieve her of her duties, Rosa’s still pretty damn proud of herself.
If only Dr. Mervin could have seen me now, she thinks as she burns the afterbirth-covered outfit, remembering the snarky supervisor who had simply nodded and shut the office door in her face when Rosa told her she would be dropping out.
She’s never, ever, delivering a baby again, though.
        ...
Rosa’s not crazy, so she waits a few days after Jake and Amy come home from the hospital before she asks to visit.
Even then, she’s careful. She remembers how militant Gina was with her minimal-visitors policy after Iggy was born, how she demanded everyone who came brought food and offered to clean up because she ‘sure as hell wasn’t doing any of that crap five days after pushing a living human out of her vagina’, and the last thing she wants is to be a nuisance to two new parents who are probably exhausted as is.
Mac is a week old the day Rosa texts Jake and Amy to ask if she can come over. She assures them that it's okay if they're too tired, that she can bring food if they want, but it's only ten minutes before Amy's replied Not necessary, you're always welcome and Jake's added Mac misses his auntie Ro-Ro. The nickname makes her touched, and she wonders briefly who she's become.
She brings food anyway, a hearty chicken stew made from a family recipe, plus a batch of oatmeal cookies; she’s got manners, and, well, she's not an animal.
It's Jake who opens. He looks surprised to see her, even though they were just texting hours ago.
“Hey, Diaz.” He can't have washed his hair in a while. It looks crazy, curls and tufts sticking up in random patterns, it doesn't look like he's shaved and his outfit seems taken from the days when they worked that apartment murder that drove them both insane. At least he’s wearing pants this time. Sweatpants, but Rosa supposes he's got an excuse.
“Amy's in the bedroom with Mac,” he explains before she can ask. “They were napping, but I just heard him start crying and instantly go quiet again, so now I’m guessing they’re nursing. They’ll be out soon.”
“It’s fine,” she assures him. “I came to see you, too.”
She’d expected their apartment to be way messier, but it looks surprisingly neat. The dining table has been taken over by flowers and greeting cards, there are bottles drying next to the sink and a baby swing next to the armchair, but the space is still tidy. Rosa’s impressed, and a little worried about Amy.
“I brought food,” she says, putting the first container on the kitchen counter.
“Oh my god, you did? I’m sure it's even edible!” Jake lights up. “Charles has given us loads too, but, y’know. I love him, but he's Charles, and anything he cooks is also… Charles.”
“I know what you mean.”
“Yeah.” He gives the chicken stew a closer look, poking at the plastic lid. “This looks great. Thanks, Rosa.”
“You're welcome.”
He smiles, a yawn following suit that he makes no effort to hide. Rosa feels bad for him, but it looks pretty funny, like his mouth is about to stretch into an abyss before he's done.
“Tired?”
“I’ll be real with you, I have not slept in a while. You want coffee?”
“Dude, it's 8 p.m.”
“Excellent observation, Diaz. Would you mind explaining that to my son?” Something in his expression changes when he says the word son. There’s a pride in his voice as he pronounces it, weighing the syllable like he can’t get enough. “I love him more than anything, but wow, he’s a shit sleeper. You want tea instead?” Jake's already digging in a cabinet. “We have, uhm… Earl Grey, lemon, and something called lactation tea. Maybe you don’t want that.” He sniffs the jar. “Smells pretty good, though. Don’t knock it ‘til you try it?”
“Lemon’s fine. Oh, and I’ve got cookies, too.”
“Who are you?”
“I gotta say, I thought your place would be chaos.” They’ve brought their cups to the couch, where Jake is already on his third cookie and getting crumbs all over the blue flannel. “I’m impressed.”
“Well, my wife is a superhero.” Rosa raises a brow, and he quickly adds, “fine, I’ve done most of this, just so she doesn’t have to stress over it. And my mom was here yesterday. The first thing still stands, though.”
“Yeah.”
“Thanks for being there with her,” he says, and the gravity in his tone takes her by surprise.
“I did nothing,” she mumbles. “You would have done a much better job. Maybe she would have even listened to you if you’d told her to go to the hospital.”
“I wouldn’t be so certain about that. She can be pretty…”
“Obstinate?”
“I was going to say determined, but sure. Sometimes.” Jake shakes his head. “I say that with love. Anyway, I’m glad it was you. Can you imagine if it had been Charles? She might have killed the man, which would have put such a damper on the whole night, don’t you think? Nah. You were great.”
He meets her eyes again as he says it, and Rosa looks away. She’s rarely one to appreciate flattery, but after the intensity of the situation and the slight guilt she felt afterward over not being the source of calm medical school taught her she should be - some of it’s welcomed.
“Sorry your son had to be delivered by a firefighter.”
“Yeah, that’s tragic, isn’t it?” Jake laughs. “But you helped, too. That’s a pretty cool story to tell Mac about his aunt Rosa one day. I know you hated it, but thank you for staying with her.”
“I wouldn’t have left her.”
“I know.”
Neither of them says anything else in response. She can tell what he means anyway, and knows he can do the same with her. She forgets, sometimes, how long she’s known him; longer than she’s known anyone else at the precinct. She still remembers the goofy student who was restless in a classroom but always sharp as a knife during practical training, the guy she met her first day at the Academy and immediately took a liking to; not just because he seemed like the type who didn’t care about her past or personal life, but also because he was passionate. About Die Hard, taking down bad guys, and about making the people around him feel better, not that he would have confessed the last part.
She still remembers one morning during their second month of the Academy, when she’d arrived at training red-eyed after a bad fight with her boyfriend at the time. Without asking what had happened, Jake spent the entire day pointing out every detail he thought had a chance of making her snicker, and by the end of the day, she’d forgotten about the fight. He’s still the same, she thinks. A few years older, more emotionally mature, and less insistent on dying a heroic death while saving the city from a terrorist attack - but the thoughtfulness and the need to make sure the people he loves are safe and taken care of remains the same.
Rosa hears steps in the hallway, accompanied by what sounds like the shy whining Arlo does when he’s hiding after doing something naughty, and looks up to see Amy. She’s holding Mac against her chest and stroking his back through the baby pink blanket, but he’s still fussing a little. Jake jumps up faster than Rosa knew the man could move, and she watches as the couple exchanges the infant between their arms with so much carefulness. They look practiced, but in a way where they don’t trust it about themselves, where the confidence doesn’t yet match the skill.
“Diaper change?” Jake asks, and Amy nods. “Amazing. Dad duty calls,” he grins, disappearing with Mac to the nursery.
“You make him do all the diaper changes?” Rosa asks as Amy joins her on the couch.
“Almost. I did the hard work, he’s gotta catch up.” She reaches for Jake’s cup, swallowing the last of the lukewarm coffee. “And he offers.”
Amy looks far more exhausted now than when Rosa last saw her in the hospital, the bags under her eyes not even hidden by makeup and her ponytail frizzy. She's wearing sweatpants again and the same flannel and shirt-combo as Jake, only hers is pink and not blue. Rosa wonders if their coordination is intentional or simple habit.
“So… how are you doing?”
It's not a question she asks often, but this time, she cares about the answer.
“I’m so tired,” Amy fires back the second Rosa finishes her sentence, like she's been bursting to complain over it. “Sore. Crying at everything. We’re just trying to figure it out.” She sighs, and then she gets a smile on her lips. “But it’s good. He's objectively the best, most wonderful baby ever.”
“Worth it?”
“Yeah, but that was never a question.”
Jake returns from the diaper change with Mac, who still doesn't quite seem content where he squirms in his father's arms, instantly gaining Amy's attention.
“Clean baby, still not happy,” Jake reports. “Maybe he didn't finish eating?”
“Could be,” Amy says, stretching out her arms to take him. “I’ll see if he's still hungry. You can go take a shower if you want. I’ve got Rosa.”
“Do I need to shower?”
“Yes, babe, you do.”
Jake grimaces, but he's off to the bathroom as soon as Amy returns her focus to the baby in her arms. Mac’s turning his whole body against her chest like it couldn't be clearer what he's after, and Amy sighs as she starts unbuttoning the flannel.
“You don't mind, right?”
“Why would I mind? You're feeding your baby,” Rosa shrugs. “I’ve seen a lot worse, if you remember. I think I can handle accidentally catching a glimpse of your boob.”
Amy blushes. “Guess you’ve got a point.”
It takes them a minute, Amy talking to her son in a low, soothing voice as he keeps tensing and fussing before he catches on. Rosa looks away, wanting to give them some privacy, but she can hear the moment Mac starts suckling and the sigh of relief that follows from Amy.
“There you go,” she says. “We just need to relax, and we’re good.”
There’s a tenderness even to the way she speaks to him, like love is packed into each word. Rosa thinks of the way Amy hid her pregnancy for months in fear that something would go wrong, and how scared she was that giving birth under less than ideal circumstances would somehow make her a bad mom. She doesn’t seem as scared anymore. Rather, there’s an air of quiet confidence over her when she’s holding him, and it’s moving to see.
“Slow down, McClane,” she whispers, thumb stroking over his cheek. “I know you’re hungry, but if you keep going like that, you’re going to puke, okay? We’ve been through this.”
“I’m proud of you,” the words spill out of Rosa, and Amy blinks.
“You’re proud of me?”
“Yeah, I’m proud of you.” A shy smile flutters across Amy’s lips. “But if you ever have another kid, I’m not going near you a month before you’re due, okay? I’ll transfer precincts or something. Never again.”
Amy laughs, but Rosa just stares at her, and she goes silent. “Got it. Cool. That’s fair.”
“Do you want to hold him?” The question takes Rosa by surprise. Mac has finished eating and burped Amy in the face - babies are charming - and seems content again with his head on Amy’s shoulder. “He’s clean and wearing clothes.”
“Uhm, yeah.” Rosa tries to remember when she last held a baby. It was probably Iggy, but Gina’s daughter is three years old now, and she hasn’t wanted to cuddle with Rosa for at least two. “Okay.”
Her heart is beating fast as she holds out her arms and Amy gently transfers him to them, but then he’s there, and it’s not as scary. Mac looks up at her with his big, brown eyes, like he's trying to figure out who this new person is that's holding him, but he doesn't seem too bothered by the change.
“Hi,” says Rosa, tracing one of the rainbows on his onesie. “We’ve met before.”
The fact that she saw this baby be born is something she most of all wants to forget. She won't for a second pretend he looked cute then, all purple and slimy and half-Cuban Jimmy Neutron-like, but now she can actually distinguish some of his features. Dark hair that won’t quite lie flat, a pointy little nose, the sweetest round cheeks, and a curious expression when she meets his eyes with equal focus. There’s some resemblance to both of his parents, something she imagines Charles has probably talked their ears off about already, but he looks like himself, too.
Mac opens his mouth like he’s trying to communicate, and Rosa makes the same face back at him. He closes it, pursing his lips, and she mimics him again. He’s pretty cool, she decides, as long as she doesn’t think about how fragile he is or how soft his head is. He’s this unscarred and innocent, brand new little person with his whole life ahead of him to be filled with successes and mistakes, heartbreaks and dreams, and now that he’s not seconds-out of a womb anymore, Rosa can’t deny that he’s adorable.
“He’s perfect, right?” Amy’s voice is just above a whisper.
“He’s so cute, it’s fucked up.”
Amy laughs. “It is fucked up,” she nods, and then she gets a far more serious look in her eyes. “Thanks again for being there. I know you hated it, but... I don’t know what I would have done without you.”
“It wasn’t a big deal,” Rosa finds herself lying, but Amy shakes her head.
“No, it was. I’m happy it was you.”
She thinks of Jake’s comment earlier, that Amy might have killed Charles if he’d been the one to try and coach her through contractions, and smirks. “It was worth it.”
Amy smiles. “Auntie Ro-Ro.”
“I get to say that. You don’t get to say that. It’s different.”
“Fine. Can I take a picture of you two? Just to have for him? I won’t ever show it to anyone else, I promise.”
“Sure.” Mac’s started moving a little in her arms again, scrunching his face and looking worried, but he’s not crying, so Rosa raises him slightly anyway and angles him so Amy can get a better picture.
“Adorable,” she says, about to snap the first shot, and right then Mac squirms and spits up. Right over Rosa’s leather jacket. Then he smiles, like everything just became so much better.
“Oh no!” Amy peeps, reaching for a washcloth. “Oh my god, I’m so sorry, I’ll take him off your hands if you want -”
“It’s fine,” she hurries to say. “It wipes off.”
“Are you -”
“I said it’s fine.” Rosa gives her a look, as if to say don’t you dare take this baby from me.
Amy looks nervous, but she takes a couple of pictures anyway. Rosa thinks that they’re probably from her bad side, but she doesn’t care to protest. It’s for Mac, anyway, and maybe a little bit for Amy and Jake. She can look ugly in a couple of iPhone pictures if it means she gets to hold this perfect baby for a few minutes more.
“So cute.” Amy sounds teary as she looks at the pictures before putting her phone away, and then it's as if she's been reading Rosa’s mind, because she asks,
“Are you okay to hold him for five minutes? Just while I go to the bathroom?”
“Yeah, I’ve got this.”
Rosa has got this, at first. Mac has gripped her index finger and is holding on tight to it while she tickles his chin, boops his nose, and even sticks out her tongue to entertain him. He seems happy, watching her with the same wide eyes and intense eye contact, but then, something suddenly comes over him. He scrunches his forehead, making a face like a sad kitten, and the next second he’s crying.
It takes Rosa by surprise. She's got no idea what to do with a crying baby - she's always just given them back to the parents - but Jake’s nowhere to be seen and breaking into the bathroom to place a screaming baby in Amy’s arms seems rude, although she definitely considers it. Rosa stands up instead, swaying from side to side while bouncing on the heels of her feet.
“Shh, shh,” she tries, to no effect. “It's okay.”
Mac lets out another wail like something is making him well and truly heartbroken, and the sound tugs at her heartstrings.
“Where are your parents?” She asks him then, like he's not wondering the same thing. “I’m sorry, Mac, I don’t know what to do -”
An idea hits her. Babies like music, right? She could sing to him. Babies probably don’t like aggressive German rap, but that’s fine, Rosa knows other songs, somewhere down deep -
“The itsy bitsy spider, went up the water spout,” she sings the first song that pops into her head. “Down came the rain and washed the spider out…”
She's not prepared for it to work, but then, as suddenly as the screaming started, Mac calms down again. He lets out the sweetest snuffling noise, and then he goes quiet.
“Out came the sun, and washed up all the rain, and the itsy bitsy spider went up the spout again…”
Rosa doesn't dare stop. She keeps rocking and singing, rocking and singing, all the while staring at this baby who has such a grip on her somehow. When did a baby last make her sing? He's still staring at her with wide eyes, and she doesn’t want him to start crying again, so she sings the song from the top.
“The itsy bitsy spider went up the water spout..”
When she finishes the song for the second time, Mac’s closed his eyes and is slowly waving a tiny fist, so she holds it in her hand and lets his grip close around her thumb.
“If you ever get an enemy in the future,” she whispers, “you text me, okay? I’ll beat them up for you.”
“Aww.” Rosa flinches, noticing Jake a few feet away. “You guys are adorable. How are things going?”
“He started crying, so I, uh, sang to him? He's fine now. I think.”
“Yeah, I heard the singing.” Jake steps closer to her so she can slide Mac over to his arms. “Truly beautiful.”
“Never tell anyone about this.”
He winks. “Our secret.”
Mac lets out another whimper, and Rosa tenses, but Jake just lifts him so he's resting against his chest, like a little frog with his head resting on Jake’s shoulder. Then he pops the pacifier he was holding into Mac’s mouth, and as if through a stroke of magic, the baby relaxes. Jake buries his nose in Mac’s hair and kisses the top of his head, and Rosa can't hide a smile.
He looks so grown up like this, so in love as he holds his son. She’s proud of him.
Amy returns from the bathroom with a stressed-out look in her eyes, but once she sees Mac with Jake, it melts right off her. She stands on the tip of her toes, kissing Mac’s cheeks first and then Jake’s.
Rosa feels like she’s lurking, spying on this intimate family moment, but then she remembers she literally saw this kid be born. This family has nestled its way into her life from the very beginning. She’s earned the right to be here.
She still excuses herself after a moment, but she doesn’t leave before she’s stolen a final dose of baby snuggles. How this baby has got her so wrapped around his tiny little finger already is a mystery, but at the same time, it makes all the sense in the world.
“Be nice to your parents,” she whispers to Mac as he gets a final turn in her arms. “They’re a little crazy, I know, but they really love you a lot. So do I,” she adds, under her breath, “but don’t tell anyone I said that.”
Mac blinks, like he understands.

Some dream smp mbtis and enneagrams bc I love it!!!
@dreamsclock here it is!!
Characters:
Wilbur
Ghostbur
Tommy
Dream
Tubbo
Quackity
Karl
Under the cut bc they’re kinda long. Keep in mind this is the characters and not the content creators :]
WILBUR
Personally for me I’d type c!wilbur as ENFJ which is interesting for a villainous character. When he spirals into madness, you can see his dominant function (Fe) become more unhealthy, leading to him being very manipulative. He shows Ti-grip when his Fe is left to burn out, becoming critical of others and their methods, preferring he do it instead (seen with tommy during their exile). Ni auxiliary is shown in his ambition and drive for his goal of L’manburg.
For his enneagram, i know wilbur said he based c!wilbur off of the song eight by sleeping at last, but hear me out,,, I was thinking maybe a 3w4. The 8 characteristics could be seen in a tritype of 368. Type three is named the achiever which in itself stands for his vision and ambition of L’manburg. 3w4s are often working towards personal growth and professional success. When unhealthy, 3s can get extremely competitive and prone to one-upping others. May reject their sense of self and develop intense mood swings. At worst they can backstab ruthlessly (tommy and the whole of L’manburg and pogtopia) and destroy others reputations solely for their benefit (“if i can’t have this no one can”). The tritype Im a bit if-y on but I’ll say 368 because it focuses on working hard, achieving personal best and developing a winning image. They will want to protect others from those they perceive as a target (dream, Schlatt), they will warn and caution others and seek “worthy” authorities they can respect.
GHOSTBUR His Si is incredibly high so imma say ISFJ. His main motive (id say) is wanting to collect stories of his past and the history of the nation he built, his “unfinished symphony”. Fe auxiliary is very strong as well as he shows a lot of compassion to others, offering them some blue in times of need and also not wanting anyone to feel sadness like he feels it. Ghostbur ignores his own feelings in order for others to feel safe. His Ti is shown through his need for gathering knowledge to understand alivebur and i could also see it through his internalised logic that the blue will help people. Not sure on inferior Ne, maybe through not wanting to see other possibilities in regards to his resurrection, however he was under a lot of stress since his home just got blown up, and friend died, so I can’t blame him.
He clearly doesn’t want conflict so I’ll say type 9. Needs peace and harmony (he gives out blue to help people). Soothing voice, and collected (except when Phil blew up L’manburg but that’s reasonable). He’s complacent, and humble, and will go the extra mile so long as to not rock the boat. Appreciative of the small things in life and enjoy simple pleasures.
TOMMY For Tommy I think ESFP which is probably one of the ones I’m up for more opinions on bc I’m not completely sure of his type. Se as dominant as he thrives on living in the moment but in an unhealthy way (unnecessary conflicts) He’s got a strong Fi auxiliary and you can see that through his personal morals and the way he usually makes decisions based off of emotions rather than objective facts and logical reasoning. He’s good at planning, but not at thinking out the longevity of it. Eg when heady exile and found technos house and lived under there, thinking techno would find him, this all shows Se-Te loop. He gradually develops an unhealthy Fi which leads to him disregarding external relationships (his friendship with tubbo) and commitments to maintain his internal love of the discs.
Enneagram wise, I’m definitely leaning towards 7w6. 7s are usually jumping from one thing to another and are constantly getting bored. The wing 6 brings loyalty and protectiveness. When unhealthy, sevens become narcissistic in their actions and presentation (see his confrontation with tubbo after tubbo thought he was dead, and the “the discs are worth more than you ever were” granted he quickly realises what he said but the mentality was still there).
DREAM I think he’s a fairly obvious stereotype unhealthy ENTJ. He has a very low Fi. When we see him driven by emotion (usually anger) it’s terrifying and we have no context about it at all except that it’s for a need of control. He knows how to manipulate people through his charisma and power in an ENTJ fashion. He lost attachment to his things very quickly (using Te and Ni to go forward logically while also showcasing his inferior Fi)
Dream is a very painfully obvious 8, probably an 8w7, but he is defined an 8. The eight has fiery passions and is usually stubborn and headstrong, they are serious about control over their environment. They are goal-oriented and self-competent. Eights are direct and aren’t shy when taking the lead and making tough decisions. They are often seen in leadership positions. The eight type is part of the “body based” triad and they often act impulsively. They crave respect and enjoy being likes by the group. When unhealthy, eights can become tyrannical and intimidating, scaring off others at first glance. They become addicted to the pursuit of power and will destroy anything blocking their path. Feelings and emotions become insignificant (spirit :’)) challengers become stone-cold and take an antagonist stand to anyone who questions them or their motives. This is the one I’m most most sure of out of every typing I’ve done bc it seems painfully obvious.
TUBBO I’d say probably an Fe dom so maybe ENFJ/ESFP but I’m leaning more to the ENFJ side. Tubbo realised after he thought tommy had died that, without tommy he was himself. Something Fe doms struggle with the most is self worth and personal identity. They’re caught up in wanting to help others that they don’t tend to their own needs. He’s careless and self sacrificing when it comes to the needs of others (him giving up his life so that tommy could have the discs and be happy) and bc he has such low self esteem he doesn’t realise that that’s not what tommy wants. The reason I’m more leaning to ENFJ is because of his inferior Ti. Though he didn’t want to due to dominant Fe, he was lead to believe exiling tommy was the best possible solution. You can see he regrets it after tommy and dream had left. When he was working under schlatt we saw his remorse and guilt even though he knew it had to be done. We see his dominant Fe during his time as president when others push him to do things and he usually agrees. He was manipulated through guilt by dream which is very unhealthy ENFJ.
(I wrote this before the ghostbur one so sorry for any repetitive language) For enneagram, type nine: the peacemaker. Type 9s are motivated by their need for peace and harmony (tubbo was manipulated into believing that getting rid of tommy would achieve this). They have a calm demeanour and are agreeable. They’re hardworking, friendly, and modest but also more serious and diligent than expected. (I’m not too sure on his enneagram which is why this is so short)
QUACKITY Estj imo. Like dream, he’s unhealthily obsessed with power, (unhealthy dominant Te). He abandoned L’manburg because schlatt wouldn’t let him have any say, and he was shoved to the side, despite it being a coalition government. He is very logical and controls others. He makes sure he comes out as the hero and that his hands are clean, learning it from past experiences (Si). He quickly finds ways to get out of situations through the use of tertiary Ne. Doesnt show a lot of Fi and he usually underestimates his opponents abilities and/or strength due to his overconfidence. He’s willing to kill anyone who goes against what he thinks and is stubborn and argumentative. He doesn’t like it when people are lazy and don’t contribute.
Also, similarly to dream, I’d type his enneagram as 8w7. The same with his obsession of power, and his strong/weak mindset where he thinks the world is made up of protectors and those who need to be protected (see him taking it upon himself to execute technoblade for the better of L’manburg) which is all very textbook 8. The opinions of others don’t have much effect on him. Eights are concerned with justice, combating oppression, and protecting the weak. He takes the lead in making tough decisions (he’s the butcher army leader). He becomes more antagonist and villainous with his actions against technoblade, believing he’s in the right. (I didn’t want to just copy out what I said for dream so this is a shortened version)
KARL Torn between ENFP and ESFP but leaning toward ENFP. He’s time travelling because he believes it’s the right the to do which is more so Fi, but could be Fe wanting to help others at his personal cost. But also the Fi-Te pair keeps him going and he won’t stop until it’s fulfilled (which is pretty Te imo). He is creative and good with imagination and ideas (Ne) (at the masquerade, although it was a comical excuse, he came up with minecraft streamer quickly, he was also able to answer billiams questions pretty quickly).
Even though it’s now canon he doesn’t choose when and where he travels to, which would have been a stronger argument for a type seven, he’s still enthusiastic at the times he travels to. He’s optimistic (with the mentality everything will go right for him because he believes it has to, even though he’s loosing a lot of memories atm). He’s got childlike energy and curious eyes. He wants to bounce from one place to another, he created two towns already, although one technically no one knows about gogtopia except for the founders and tommy who travelled through it. He’s well like and popular, which is often a 7 trait. The type 7 is part of the “heart-based” triad, and we can see him act through this with the way he seeks excitement as a means to distract himself from the darker, and more painful things in life. He ignores his fears in favour of positive experiences. For a wing, probably a 7w6 in favour of 7w8, the same as tommy. He’s loyal and a strong leader over being tough and more career-driven. If he was to turn unhealthy in the future, we might see him loose his groundedness, and start to live in a perpetual fantasy instead of reality.
Sorry for any typos or bad grammar :]

The Burdens of Lordship
Jaune decided he needed to go get out for a night, and by himself.
It had been a long couple of months at Beacon, hard, difficult, and nowhere near-easy for a fake like himself.
But, he had made it so far with Pyrrha and his teams help.
He be dead without them, hells, he’d be dead without Ruby too.
But, with all these new teams coming in today... It felt so damn suffocating, even more than usual. Like they could see through him, see that he didn’t belong here.
So, it brought him here, getting dressed for a knight on the town, heh, he’d made a Yang.
A nice pair of cream slacks, a royal blue dress shirt, a black vest on top of it lined with faux-gold buttons, a pair of nice brown loafers, and fine leather belt to bring the suit together. Contrarily to Yang and Weiss’s opinion, he did know how to dress himself, being raised by his parents plus seven overbearing sisters taught him enough, it’s just, since he came to Beacon he’s actually had the freedom to wear what he wanted.
Tonight though? He want to look better than he felt. So, he brushed his a hair enough to look presentable, and went out into the dorm.
“Well, how did I dooooo-” Jaune didn’t get to finish as Nora barreled pasted into the bathroom, knocking him to the side.
Pyrrha stifled a laugh and Ren gave the barest hint of a apolegtic smile.
Jaune steadied himself, giving a laugh at his own expense. He couldn’t blame Nora for having to go to the bathroom, could he?
“Well, how do I look?” Jaune asked his partner and his friend.
Pyrrha gave him a friendly smile and nodded approvingly. “Quite lovely, Jaune. You look dashing.”
“Ah, thanks Pyr.” Jaune said with a slight blush, it always felt nice to be complimented.
Ren looked on more skeptically, with a hand on his chin. “Turn around.”
Jaune did as asked.
“Ok, do some stretches.”
Jaune complied with his team-mates wishes, surely he would notice if he missed something.
“Alright, you look passable. Here,” Ren approached Jaune squirted a few drops of cologne, and helped straighten out his outfit. “And now you look, as Pyrrha put it, quite dashing.” Ren said with a light smile.
“Thanks, Ren.” Jaune said another light blush on his cheeks. “Well, I guess I should be going then.”
“Wait,” Ren said putting a hand on his shoulder. “You’re forgetting something.” He looked over to Pyrrha and she handed the boys Crocea Mors.
Jaune looked on incredulous. “Why would I need Crocea Mors?”
Ren shook his head. “You’re a huntsman, you must look the part at all times. Plus...”
Jaune frowned, knowing where he was leading. “It’ll make me less likely to be mugged or something.”
Jaune knew he was a still noodly, and looked kinda weak. But he was working really hard on that!
Jaune still took his blade without complaint, admittedly he has gotten so used to wearing it, he started feeling off when not wearing it.
Pyrrha rubbed a hand on his shoulder. “It’s not like that Jaune, it’s not we’re concerned about you getting hurt, far from it, the odds of someone attacking you and them being huntsman trained are one in some hundred. We’re actually more concerned that someone might mug you and...”
Ren chimed in, “Well, you’re not Nora strong, but you’re being trained and have Aura, and that’s more than enough to hospitalize someone without one or both.”
Jaune grimaced at the idea. While he didn’t fancy himself strong or powerful, it as kinda hard to deny he hadn’t been making progress, last week he had managed to take off the head of one of the old drones that General Ironwood had donated to the academy. A regular human probably require much, much less effort.
So he nodded. “I see your point. Better to deter them, before they make a attempt.”
“Also, Ruby would be peeved if you didn’t start taking this.” Then Pyrrha pushed a black hand-canon into his hand. She then looked him in the eyes. “I’d also be rather put out, considering I paid for it.” A sly grin in her eyes.
Jaune sighed and equipped the gun to his waist opposite of Crocea Mors. Ever since he had started training with Pyrrha seriously, she had quite insistent about covering his ranged issues. So his devious partner, had behind his back teamed up with his best friend and local gun-nut, Ruby Rose, to make him a custom-hand canon.
Her evils truly knew no bounds. They had even come up with a name for it the devils! Noctis Mors.
Ruby had been a cruel task-master in teaching him the in’s and outs of shooting Noctis Mors, she had made him assemble and reassemble her until his hands bled gun oil. Suffice to say, while Noctis Mors felt a little strange on his hip, he was getting used to it.
“Thank you, Pyrrha.” He said, and pulled her into a hug, which she reciprocated.
“Better to have it and not need it, then to needed and not have it.”
Jaune smiled and shook his head, his friends were too good to him.
“Tell Nora, I said bye.”
Ren nodded his head. “You should leave before she loads you up with some grenades.”
Jaune shivered at the thought, he might be coming around to using Noctis Mors, but he doubted he’d ever get used to high-caliber explosives, He’d leave that to his crazy ginger bomber.
“Well, bye guys, I’ll see you later tonight.” Jaune said to his friend and Partner.
“Bye, Jaune.”
“Try not to eat to unhealthily!”
“I make no such promises!” Jaune said with a laugh, slipping out of the dorm.
Jaune made his way down the hallways of the dorm toward to the stairs that led outside. Where he encounters a quartet of familiar faces.
Jaune gave a friendly wave to Team RWBY as he walked towards them.
“Jaune!” Ruby said speeding over. “What are you up too? You’re not trying to ask Weiss out again are you?”
Jaune gave a eye-roll. “No, just heading out for the night. Just thought, I be a good friend and say hi.” Jaune said with stress on the word friend.
Ruby gave a laugh. “Sure, you are.”
The rest of her team caught up. Weiss in particular looked at him with suspicion,
“So, VB, whats the occasion for looking so sharp, you got a hot date tonight?” Yang asked giving him a approving nod.
“Hah, no, not tonight. I, uh, just gotta to get out for a night. You know? I just feel so trapped lately, and I want to not really think about things for a night.”
Ruby gave him a sympathetic nod.
While surprisingly Blake, the one he probably never interacted with, looked at him with a surprising level of empathy. “Yeah, I know what you mean. I hope you find what you’re looking for tonight.”
“Yeah me, too.”
Weiss then choose to cut in. “So, you don’t know what you’re looking for then?” Giving him a sharp look.
Jaune almost buckled under her gave, but straighten his back. “Uh, no, but, It’s not like I’m just idling around in Vale all nigh, I’ve got a couple places to hit up, but it’s not like I’m keeping to strict schedule, I either get to them or I don’t, I’m just trying to de-stress is all.”
Weiss huffed in disapproval, but said nothing in return. The Ice Queens love of schedules and appointments was approaching that of legend.
Yang then slung an arm around his shoulders, though she had to lean up to so. “Well, VB, that sounds fun and all, but Team RWBY as places to be and butts to kick, so go have your fun.”
Jaune untangled himself. “That’s the plan, you guys go stop crime or whatever trouble you’ll get up to.”
“We don’t always do that!”
Jaune raised a suspicious brow at that.
“We don’t!”
“Sure.” Then Jaune turned and walked away, feeling as though he had won that conversation.
As he was leaving, he heard Weiss call out. “Arc.” Jaune turned to looked at her. “Try to not make a fool out of yourself, tonight.” The barest hint of what may one day be a smile on her face.
“That’s not on the list, but I’ll add it in anyway.” He said turning around, not bothering to try to find sort of conversation with her. He knew where they stood relationship wise, and if it could improve over time, that sounds good, if not, well all he could hope is keeping thing civil.
-------
Jaune made sure to pop something for his motion-sickness before he bordered the bullhead, so the flight down wasn’t as terrible as it could be, it was still awful, but at least he wasn’t spewing his guts everywhere.
His stomach feeling wobbly made he strike eating off the list for now, so he choose his first destination, and walked through one of Vales, many, many parks. Admiring the well-tended plant-life and occasionally waving at anybody who waved at him.
After his stomach settled, he decided to walk towards the closest bookstore, and just browsed till he founded something interesting. He had less-time with keeping up with comic and whatever came out of Mistral, since coming to Beacon. Still he left the store with couple interesting comics and even a couple books on stuff relating to huntsman actives.
Finally his stomach had decided to let him know, he could refill it. He ended up at a nice steak house, and somehow managed to get to a table in under a hour.
Jaune set at a table looking over a menu, he had already decided on what steak he want, now it was just onto sides.
A waitress then made herself known. “Hello, hello, what can I get you today?”
Jaune recited his order.
“Right, well have it out as soon as possible. Also, from the rest of us here, we’d like to think you for your service.”
Jaune’s face crunched in confusion.
“Huntsmen are a invaluable part of our society, and as such, we’d like you to know that your meal is on the house tonight, if you require anything else, please just call.”
Then his waitress left, somehow managing to make Jaune feel appreciated and also like a complete piece of shit.
----
The meal was delicious, and Jaune had made sure to leave a nice tip anyway before leaving.
Did his dad get free meals like that? Did all huntsmen just get their bill wavered?
Jaune paused for a moment and sat on a bench, thinking.
He stares out into the evening light and all the people out there, living there lives, good or bad, they were still people weren’t they? They were probably didn’t even think about how to they need to get stronger, or how to kill the next grimm they face, were they?
They shouldn’t have to either? Should they, since that was his job kinda. Jaune thought for a second, he might not be a real huntsman, or even a real huntsman in training, but whats to stop him from faking it till he made it for real? What does it matter if the arms that carrys the sword has trained for two years or two months, if it can cut, it can serve.
If people were going to honor him as a huntsman, he was going to honor them by acting like one.
There wasn’t a smile on his face, but there wasn’t a frown either.
He didn’t have time to idle anymore, he needed to get back and work off this meal.
‘KAAAA-BOOOOM!!!’ A sound like none Jaune had heard before tore the air into pieces, it was so loud that it put any sound he heard before into a whimper. It was like the crack of thunder on a scale inconceivable, like lightning striking turned up to twelve.
His hearing was protected by Aura, and it was still ringing.
He turned his head towards the source of the sound, towards Beacon, and towards Patch, towards were he say the source of several more sources of the sound, and a terrible, but wondrous site.
Of what looked like one of those things Weiss summoned before, but bigger, on a scale that could cover entire city blocks!
A pillar of sheer white light stuck Beacon, and in a moment of realization, what must be Signal on Patch.
A light so bright and terrible, Jaune felt it burn against his aura, and could see the fires start around the Emerald Forest. He carefully took his hand off his ear, the sound pound like a hammer into his head, and he could see the bones through his skin. He slapped his hand back across his head.
The pillars kept of their thunderous booming for several minutes, as Jaune covered his ears, watching in utter horror.
It felt almost like a the air was slapping against his bones, and sound was hitting against his bones, rattling and shaking them.
The ground as shaking too he realized.
Silence and darkness.
The pillars suddenly disappeared, and a vacuum of sound was left over.
The city was now dark and silent, as day left night along, as the lights in the city did not turn on, as the only light was that of the fires, there was no sound at first... Then the screams started.
AN: I can’t believe everyone, but, Jaune just got fucking Isekai’d.
