when I kissed the teacher 💋
Tumblr media
Pairing: Aaron Hotchner/Fem!Reader
Word Count: 3338
A/N: fits into the touch tank ‘verse! All characters are consenting adults (and not to spoil it, but Hotch isn’t really a professor so it’s especially okay <3), Smut! Office sex. MDNI
Also I feel like I didn’t describe the sex position super well, so here’s a visual (link image is N S F W!, it’s drawn so it’s not pure porn but. It’s sexual)

There’s a rush of excitement in your veins as you smooth your hands over your outfit, walking down the hallway to the onsite lecture theatre at Quantico. Dr. Hotchner is guest lecturing today, and you’ll be damned if he doesn’t notice you.
The bottom hem of your skirt sits well above your knees. You’re wearing your favourite blouse, holding some books in your arms, which are folded across your chest. Your tote holds a handful of pens and a notebook. The lipstick on your lips is your favourite shade. A diamond tennis bracelet adorns one of your wrists. In short, you feel like a million dollars, and you look like a billion.
You can tell that you’re late by the fact that the hallway leading up to the door is completely empty. When you walk in, and take a seat in the back row, your suspicion is confirmed. Professor Hotchner doesn’t look up at you, caught up in the concept he’s explaining. You take a minute to set up your notebook and take the cap off your pen. It’s one of the ones with a feathery doodad on top, and you can’t stifle a smile when you watch it bobbing in the air above the page as you write the date.
“So, based on those traits, we were able to determine that the unknown subject was disorganized, driven by passion, and prone to making mistakes. Each of those assumptions was correct, but which aspect of the wider profile was an error? Someone who isn’t familiar with the case, please.”
A tall young adult with blonde hair raised his hand, and Professor Hotchner called on him.
“The assumption that they must have been part of a wider criminal network?” He offered.
“Yes,” Professor Hotchner replied. “Can you tell me why that was a significant error we made?”
“Well, there wasn’t much evidence for that part of the profile, aside from the fact that there were a lot of crime scenes for a single individual.”
“And what is the lesson there? Someone else, please.”
Someone you couldn’t quite make out in the front row raised their hand, and the professor nodded in their direction.
“Don’t assume the worst?”
“Well,” Hotchner paused. “Sometimes it’s helpful to assume the worst, because it forces you to confront a minimal loss scenario, rather than a completely effective solution. Has anyone ever heard the expression ‘when you hear hoofbeats, think horses, not zebras’?”
There was some scattered nodding throughout the room.
“Right. So in the field, statistics matter. For instance, the vast majority of arsonists are young males. Knowing that information can help you narrow down the suspect pool quickly, which is key when response time is important.”
He clicked over to the next slide, and you grimaced, seeing the gutted remains of what had once been a lecture hall.
“However,” Professor Hotchner said, taking a dramatic pause as the students considered the image. “It’s important that you don’t make a habit of ruling out zebras, because every now and again, you’ll see an unsub who doesn’t fit the stereotypical profile for their crime, method, location...”
Something pink caught his eye, and he glanced up at the back row, where he saw you, dutifully taking notes with a completely ridiculous pen. You looked up when you realized that the room had fallen silent, making eye contact with him. You gave him a dreamy wave, resting your chin on your hand.
He looked away quickly. “As I was saying...”
The rest of the lecture continued fairly successfully. At one point, the professor was stumped by a question from a student, who had asked how a profiler was supposed to know the difference between a horse and a zebra when the hoofbeats are all you have to go on. He’d paced the room for a minute or so, considering his response.
“I would say that it takes practice. The main takeaway is that you shouldn’t jump straight to zebra, but you shouldn’t rule it out either, until you have a strong reason to do so.” He looked at the student who’d asked the question, a small smile causing his lips to turn upward. “But I wouldn’t know. I’m not a biologist.”
Scattered laughter broke out in the auditorium, and he pulled back the sleeve of his suit jacket to check the time.
“Alright, I’m sure you all have places to be, but if there’s one piece of advice I would give you all, it’s that there are no perfect answers, which, honestly, makes lecturing on this topic a little difficult. You’ll make mistakes, no profile is ever flawless. But, most of all, remember that the profile doesn’t need to be perfect to work. A lot of the time, research, police work, autopsies, all come together, and it’s the details from those, combined with the profile, that enables us to limit harm.”
He cleared his throat and glanced up at you again, pressing his lips together tightly before looking somewhere else in the room.
“Thank you everybody, have a good weekend. I have a few minutes for questions-”
The end of his sentence was overtaken by the sound of students chatting, packing their bags, and clearing the aisles. You stayed put, watching a line form between his lectern and up the stairs, almost stretching to the back of the lecture hall.
You sighed lightly, waiting for the line to abate before you joined it. The other students were lucky that the professor was being so generous with his time. It had been half an hour, and the last three students were still waiting patiently for their turns. Most of the interactions had just been handshakes, futile attempts at networking. Even with the best intentions, he’d never remember their names, and besides, it would be unprofessional to give any of them a leg up. The BAU was a selective group, and for good reason. Very few of the students who had an interest in profiling would actually be good candidates for the unit.
At long last, the professor was finishing up with the last student. You made eye contact with Hotchner, shooting him a small smile before pushing the tip of your pointer finger between your lips, under the guise of soothing a papercut. You made sure to drag your finger out of your mouth torturously slowly, emphasizing the way your lips parted. He’d know exactly what you were getting at.
He cleared his throat and tore his eyes from yours. “I’m very sorry Patrick, but I really need to get back to work. Besides, I think you’ll be able to find most of the answers on the FBI website, if the hostage negotiation stream is something you’re interested in.”
Patrick stuttered, nodding and quickly leaving the room. Professor Hotchner had perhaps been a little curt, but you could tell he was tiring of the schmoozing from the look he shot you, eyebrows raised.
He said your last name affectionately. “Would you mind if we take this to my office? I think another class is scheduled in this room in a few minutes.”
“Of course,” You said, gesturing for him to go up the stairs before you.
“No, after you,” He insisted. You crossed your arms.
“I’m sorry, Professor, but I have a rule not to let men walk behind me.”
Your comment clearly flustered him, and he cleared his throat, a blush coming over his cheeks. He confined his eyeline tightly to the ground.
A few minutes later, you were seated in his office, the professor in his leather armchair and you sitting on the edge of the desk.
“Sorry there are no other seats,” He apologized, still struggling to make eye contact with you.
“It’s no problem,” You said sweetly, letting your legs swing.
“What did you want to talk about?” He finally looked up at you, his eyelashes framing his dark eyes beautifully.
“I was wondering if you could help me revise the notes from today? I missed the first few minutes and I hate leaving them incomplete,” You explained sheepishly.
You leaned all the way back on his desk, letting your back rest flat against it as you reached to the floor for your notebook. You heard him take a sharp exhale at the way he was suddenly in the right place to look directly up your skirt. He pressed his lips together tightly, looking away as you popped back up, spine upright again.
Opening the book to today’s page, you held the book open with one hand, propping it up on your lap, pointing to the notes you’d made. Sure enough, he walked you through each of the notes you’d taken, telling you where you’d missed a key point. As you did so, he pulled his chair in closer to the desk, one of his hands coming to your thigh, where he rested it casually. If you put the book down, he would have been face to face with your barely-covered pelvis, given how much your skirt was riding up.
You played with your hair for a moment, nodding as he explained the principle of minimal loss. In a breathy voice, you asked, “And that’s where the trickle, flow, gush strategy comes into play?”
He noticed your emphasis on those three words, and swallowed. “Well, yes. Sometimes the minimal loss principle is used outside of hostage situations, but trickle, flow, gush is only ever used in hostage scenarios.”
Undoing the top few buttons on your blouse, you leaned forward, emphasizing your breasts. “That’s so... interesting.”
His hand, the one on your thigh, started to move incrementally towards your hip, taking the skirt with it as he went. You set the notebook aside, finally, and waited for his reaction.
“Professor?”
“Yes?”
“Would you care for a practical experiment in profiling?”
He sighed and leaned back in his armchair, drinking in the sight of you on his desk, skirt bunched up around your hips, blouse no longer modestly buttoned.
“We tend to make a rule of not profiling profilers,” He explained, but in all honesty, you were watching his hands slip from the arms of the chair to his lap, where he folded them over his crotch.
“One sentence, just tell me if I’m telling the truth,” You begged, spreading your legs slightly. He couldn’t help the way his jaw slackened as he realized what you were revealing. This whole time, his whole lecture... you had nothing underneath that tiny, tiny skirt.
Suddenly, he was standing over you, disrupting the height difference that had left you, for once, looking down at him. He placed the tip of his index finger on the beginning of the inside of your thigh, just by your knee.
“Go ahead,” He breathed, close enough that you could feel it on your neck. He pressed a soft, chaste kiss there, trailing down your neck at an excruciating pace. Once you were moaning softly, he started tracing his finger up the inside of your thigh. You had the distinct feeling that once his finger and mouth crossed paths, you might burst into flames. Such light, delicate touches that they were almost ticklish.
You grabbed his tie tightly in your fist, pulling it so he had no choice but to face you.
“I want you to fuck me, more than I want anything else in the world.”
From the immediate reddening of his face, you could tell he knew you meant every letter of what you’d said. It must have been almost intimidating to know that you were being completely earnest, almost frightening to be wanted so badly.
“So, Professor...” You sighed, before pulling him in by the tie and licking a stripe up his stubbled cheek, “True or false?“
“True,” He said, his baritone cutting right through you. It was his straightforward, factual tone. There was no room for argument or misinterpretation.
You let go of his tie and laid back on the desk, leaving your legs dangling over the edge, your hips at the perfect height, resting securely on the desk.
You heard the sound of a zipper being undone, and looked up to see him draping his blazer over the back of his chair. He was standing between your legs, taking you in like a painting at a gallery, cocking his head from side to side.
“You’re ethereal,” He said plainly.
“Fuck me then,” You replied.
It was bold, but you knew that after the lecture, and the way you’d been teasing each other in the office, you’d be able to take him. You were soaked, leaving your core dripping, feeling hypersensitive to the slight coldness of the room.
He pumped his hand up and down his cock, and on any other day, you’d be happy to watch him pleasuring himself: the pure masculinity of his huge hands fisting his length... But today, you needed it.
“Please,” You whimpered.
“Just putting on a condom,” He murmured quietly. In the hush that came over the room as you admired each other, you heard the wrapper landing in the plastic-lined bin under his desk.
He gave your hip a squeeze, and you nodded. He nodded back, and nudged your legs wider apart. There was already a delicious stretch in your inner thighs from how you had to open your hips to create space for his strong frame. Once he was satisfied with your position, he started to ease into you, guided with one of his hands.
Your breathing immediately became shallower, and you felt yourself clench tightly around the very very tip of him. He moved his hand away and guided your legs into the air, letting your ankles rest against the front of his shoulders. He gripped your thighs for leverage.
He pushed in further, and you moaned loudly. You both knew the office floor would be empty, so neither of you made any attempts to stay quiet.
“You’re so big,” You said, grinding your hips towards his and whining softly at how it pushed his length even further into you. He gave a short thrust, and it knocked the wind out of you.
He moaned your name softly and whispered, “I don’t think I can keep up the act. What do you need, baby?”
“Please just fuck me, don’t worry about taking it slow,” You breathed. “Please, just give it to me hard.”
He huffed a short laugh, breaking character temporarily to cup your cheek affectionately.
“I love you,” He said tenderly, his mouth setting into a firm line as he leaned into the second part of his sentence, “But I’m going to fuck you like I want to break you.”
And with that, he pressed the rest of the way inside, his mouth dropping into an ‘O’. His sigh was almost pornographic, and he looked up at the ceiling. You weren’t sure if he was praying or just trying to become accustomed to the feeling.
“You’re so tight,” He hissed. “Gonna fuck you open.”
True to his word, he set a brutal pace; slow but deep, slamming his hips into yours, pulling out halfway, slamming in again. It left your brain in a tailspin, with stars behind your eyes. He’d switch it up by pulling almost all the way out, leaving you begging and writhing, grinding your hips towards his, and then he’d push back in slowly, watching your reaction to every inch, your brows pinched, eyes screwing shut.
“Touch your breasts,” He said. “Wish I could, but I’m a little,” He breathed, fucking into you hard. “Preoccupied.”
With each thrust, shit was tumbling from the desk. You couldn’t bring yourself to care, the crashes to the floor only a small part of the soundtrack of his thrusts and your shared sounds. When his groans gave way to something more akin to whines, you knew he was getting close. The desk was scooting across the floor with the force of it all.
“Can you finish like this?”
You knew it was a question without judgement, so you weren’t ashamed to shake your head.
He stroked one of your legs affectionately. “I’m going to drop this one so I have some room to work,” He said under his breath.
You nodded, and he gently eased your leg down, making sure it was slow enough that you wouldn’t cramp or stretch too far in this strange position. With one of your legs in the air, and the other wrapped around his hip, he lowered his free hand to your labia. He pressed his cock almost all of the way into you, and traced his thumb around your stretched opening, making you aware of how much of him you were taking.
“So deep,” He groaned softly. “Feel how well you take me?”
He brought his thumb around to the top of your slit, tracing it in wide circles, gathering some of your wetness and using it to lubricate your clit as he made his circles narrower and faster.
“Like that?” He breathed.
“Up and down,” You whined breathily. “I’m so close, Aaron.”
He moved his thumb up and down, flicking your clit under his thumb. Your reaction was immediate, your legs shaking around him, held in place by his steadying hand on your upright leg.
“Aaron, Aaron, Aaron,” You chanted, eyes rolling back.
He moaned, the ragged sound getting caught in his throat. You heard your name echoed back to you in his deep baritone, and the sound, and his continued attention to your clit, sent you deeper into your orgasm. Whether this was still the first, or the second, you were unsure. Your legs shook against him, and he pressed kisses to your calf as he spilled himself into the condom, muffling the sound into your skin. You were starting to come down just as he came, so you watched as his face crumpled, almost as if he was about to cry. He panted heavily and opened his eyes, looking directly at you.
It was cliche, but you really felt that he was staring straight into your soul. His face broke out into a wide grin, and he eased out of you quickly, before you became too sensitive. With the utmost care, he helped you bring your other leg back down, rubbing your thigh gently to discourage any aches from setting in. His warm hands felt wonderful on your skin, and you moaned softly. Once your body felt like it was back on the right planet again, you grinned and he smiled right back at you, leaning down to press kisses all over your face.
“I love you,” He murmured.
You hummed affirmatively, running your hands over his back, still clothed in his button up and tie. “I love you too.”
He disappeared from your eyeline for a second, and when he helped you to your feet, you saw that he had laid out his suit jacket and pants on the floor of the office.
“It’s not a bed, but...” He blushed slightly, hand coming to the back of his neck. You kissed his cheek and lay down as he took off the condom and pulled on his briefs. He loosened his tie and lay down beside you. The ground was undeniably hard, but for now, the warmth of his clothing beneath you was enough. He pulled you into his arms, wrapping them around you so you were snug against his chest. Happy, you nuzzled into him, feeling his comforting natural scent fill your nose.
“If I doze off, you have to wake me up,” You craned your neck so you could look at his face. He gave you an affectionate squeeze, but he was already almost lost to the sandman. He hummed softly, his breath evening out.
You snuggled into him. You’d both wake up soon enough, since he was right, this wasn’t much of a bed, but for now, you couldn’t imagine doing anything other than resting your head back down on his chest and letting yourself be held, but more importantly than that, completely and utterly loved.

Instead of facing the real threat, everyone "shuddered at spy stories, discussed irrelevant problems, argued endlessly about scapegoats and minorities.” ~ The Rape of the Mind
Karen Hunt aka KH Mezek
Sep 16, 2024
I had to share this video of Kamala Harris joking with Ellen DeGeneres about killing Donald Trump back in 2018.
And then there’s that demonic laugh that we’ve all come to know so well, with DeGeneres and the audience laughing along with her. This is where we are as a nation—the vice president and presidential candidate laughing about killing her rival.
It sure isn’t 1963 anymore. No, it’s a continuation because we still don’t know what happened back then, do we. Will we ever know the truth of the first assassination attempt on Trump, not to mention the second? What can we expect tomorrow or the next day?
As we hurtle ever closer to the presidential elections keep in mind that we are being conditioned to turn “the other” into the enemy and we are laughing about it. I think many people have a sense of unease about the laughter which shows all is not lost, we still have some remnant of morality.
The laughter hides our feelings of fear and foreboding:
“Hitler's psychological artillery was composed primarily of the weapon of fear. He had, for example, a network of fifth columnists whose main job was to sow rumors and suspicions among the citizens of the countries against which he eventually planned to fight... [an example of such a rumor/slogan was:] "Why should France die for England?" Fear began to direct people's actions. Instead of facing the real threat of German invasion, instead of preparing for it, all of Europe shuddered at spy stories, discussed irrelevant problems, argued endlessly about scapegoats and minorities.” ~ Joost A.M. Meerloo, The Rape of the Mind: The Psychology of Thought Control, Menticide, and Brainwashing
I continually go back to my essay, Utopian Madness, written in Sept 2021 (before anyone else was writing or doing podcasts about mass psychosis), where I wrote about how the “rape of the mind” is achieved through menticide:
“Menticide is… an organized system of psychological intervention and judicial perversion through which a [ruling class] can imprint [their] own opportunistic thoughts upon the minds of those [they] plan to use and destroy.”
“Each wave of terrorizing . . . creates its effects more easily – after a breathing spell – than the one that preceded it because people are still disturbed by their previous experience. Morality becomes lower and lower, and the psychological effects of each new propaganda campaign become stronger; it reaches a public already softened up.”
I encourage people to actively counter this assault. I train most days in the gym; I have a friend that I box with. I run. I hike. I pray. I read fiction. Yes, I read nonfiction for my research. But for the benefit of my mind and my soul, I read fiction.

A Texas bankruptcy court judge brought Infowars back from the brink of death on Friday, a surprising ruling which conspiracy kingpin Alex Jones attempted to use to—naturally—make more money. This time, Jones is promoting a supplement company owned by his father.
Judge Christopher M. Lopez issued a split ruling last week, saying that Jones can follow through with a plan his attorneys had requested and liquidate most of his assets to pay the nearly $1.5 billion judgment he owes to the families of children and staff members killed at Sandy Hook after repeatedly calling the mass shooting a “hoax.”
Though Jones lost by default in defamation cases brought by Sandy Hook families in both Connecticut and Texas, the families have yet to see a dime of the money owed to them; Friday’s hearing was one piece of a long-awaited day of reckoning for the man they said was the single biggest driver of lies about their dead children and hatred, threats, and harassment directed toward their families.
But the judge rejected a bankruptcy plan that would have also liquidated Free Speech Systems, the parent company of Infowars, the 25-year-old media empire that made Jones into the foremost face of conspiracism in America. The network will live for now, although it remains unclear how long. Jones responded to the crisis in his usual way: by shilling supplements, albeit this time with a curious twist.
As the bankruptcy proceedings have dragged on—and on and on—Jones has used his one true talent to powerful effect, urging his viewers to send money to an entity not directly owned by him, and thus not answerable to the Sandy Hook families and his other creditors.
In recent weeks, Jones has been promoting a new supplements site, Dr. Jones Naturals, on air. He says it’s owned by his father, David Jones, a dentist. Alex Jones has been urging people to spend their money there in addition to, or instead of, at Infowars' in-house store. “My dad is a sponsor, and he has a warehouse that’s not under their control, full of products ready to ship to you,” Jones said on-air last week. A representative for Free Speech Systems also testified in court that Infowars had stopped ordering supplements for its in-house store several weeks ago, expecting an imminent shutdown.
The things on offer from Dr. Jones Naturals don’t differ greatly from the things Infowars sells itself; there’s the usual bouquet of colloidal silver products, a longtime faux cure-all in the natural health world, along with something oxymoronically called Rocket Rest, a product called Top Brain, and, for the completist, a set of products called the Patriot Pack. There’s also a pack of “super silver lozenges,” where the product photo shows an expiration date of 2022.
“It’s an obvious fraud on the bankruptcy court,” Chris Mattei, an attorney for the Connecticut families, tells WIRED, referring to Jones' directing people on-air to his father’s supplements website. “He’s not supposed to divert assets.”
This isn’t the first time the families have credibly accused Jones of diverting Infowars’ assets to businesses owned by family members. When the company first filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2022, lawyers for the Texas families accused Jones of “conspir[ing] to divert his assets to shell companies owned by insiders like his parents, his children, and himself.” One of those companies was an entity called PQPR Holdings, an alleged Infowars vendor that claims to supply virtually everything in its online store. Other shell companies, the lawyers alleged, were holding companies that the lawyers said were “directly or indirectly” owned by Jones, his parents, or his children, and which in some cases bore their initials. (The fight over PQPR continues in bankruptcy court.)
For both sets of families, the concern about Jones allegedly looting the company on his way out the door remains very real. Lawyers for the families made clear during the hearing that they were ultimately looking to preserve the value of the company to create an equitable distribution of Jones’ assets to his many, many creditors, and, of course, prevent him from carrying out what they allege is the latest fraudulent scheme he’s using to keep money hidden.
In the hearing, Jones’ assets were ordered dissolved. Though he will be allowed to keep his house, other personal assets, like his gun collection, could also be up for auction. But since the court rejected a bankruptcy plan for Free Speech Systems, the families can now try to collect the judgments they won in state court. The Connecticut plaintiffs had asked the judge to pave the way for an “orderly wind down” of Jones’ business affairs, as several lawyers put it, while the Texas families favored a plan to keep the company operational for now, with their lawyers arguing that they could better pursue claims for their clients that way.
Besides hawking his dad’s business, in the leadup to the hearing, Jones also milked every bit of content and attention from Infowars’ possible imminent nonexistence that he could. He sat down for laudatory interviews with both Tucker Carlson and Russell Brand that aired on Infowars and loudly ruminated on what he called “the twilight” of the network and “the countdown to the end of this place.”
Jones’ last week of broadcasts was a greatest-hits of weird characters from across the conspiracy-verse. Besides Brand and Carlson, Mikki Willis, the filmmaker behind the viral faux-documentary Plandemic, also showed up with friends to promote a new project, as did Stew Peters, an antisemitic far-right broadcaster who has recently been named the communications director of an armed national militia. Proud Boys founder Gavin McInnes also hosted a segment where he ranted about Black Lives Matter.
On Friday morning, Jones posted a video on X of himself driving down a Texas highway toward the courthouse, declaring that “the Democratic party and the Deep State” were trying to take control of his assets and social media accounts.
“This is real tyranny,” he declared, adding that if Trump is reelected, “he’s going to put them all in prison.”
Jones also claimed on-air last week that an Infowars shutdown would only make him more powerful. “You make it bigger by shutting it down, dumbos,” he declared. After the verdict, in an “emergency broadcast” over the weekend, Jones called the hearing “absolutely epic” and denounced allegations that he was “stealing money” as “fake.”
The verdicts against Jones, Mattei told WIRED last week, were “a cathartic moment of validation. And Friday if the judge rules that the company needs to be liquidated will be another moment where they feel like they’ve done everything they could do to protect others. They didn’t lay down.”
But that is, of course, not what happened. “It’s just Biblical,” Jones exalted over the weekend, speaking to one of his frequently replaced junior hosts. “It’s almost like God is really just being entertained by all this and is just wanting to see the fight continue.”
While the families have clearly fought hard, Friday’s split ruling is, instead, a signal that their fight is, for now, not even close to over. And as Jones and Infowars keep covering their own unlikely survival, they’re still hawking both their in-house store and Dr. Jones’ Naturals.
“We’re selling it for $12 and change,” Jones said at one point during the “emergency broadcast,” extolling the virtues of a certain supplement. He paused for a moment. “My dad is.”

Get Strategic!
TLDR: We want to figure out how to analyze the world around us (past, present, and future) so that we can create the futures that we want. We do this so that we can understand why the world isn’t what we want it to be, and to get ideas for how to change that. It also allows those ideas to be experimental in nature, where we can review the results and assess them. More spontaneous actions that exist in a vacuum (as in substantive strategic thinking isn’t present in the movement) are great but can have wildly varying effects that are hard to discern and make useful long-term. Creating strategies that are flexible allows us to have our cake and eat it too, where multiple tactics are employed to service liberation in ways that are symbiotic and reinforcing, rather than parasitic and counterproductive.
Continuing my conversations around creating social change (including how to get started, how to organize, and the importance of worldbuilding), I want to talk about the importance of strategy. I’ve made a couple of posts about this, with some broad notes on changing the world, and some more specific notes on the importance of anti-authoritarian, distributed resistance. I want to come at it from a different angle. Let’s discuss why strategy is important, and how to create strategy.
Let’s start with defining strategy. If you imagine social change work as fractal, where the vision (as in the idea of what you want the world to be) is the fractal, zoomed out to the largest scale, and specific actions as zoomed into the smallest scale, strategy sits at the middle scale. Said otherwise, strategies are the culmination of bundles of actions (also known as tactics), and/or pieces of visions. So, a vision would be akin to a snowflake, an action would be a specific triangle on that snowflake, and the strategy is one of the “arms” of the snowflake. Strategy is how we get from disparate actions to our world-building vision. Strategy builds on and creates the spaces for spontaneity to be effective, towards the end of improving the conditions of dispossessed folks. It’s an additive element to those ruptures that happen in society. We can protest, occupy squares, and do direct action… but if those are not in the context of some wider orientation, those folks just get singled out, and at best become martyrs. Again, I am not against spontaneity. It’s going to happen. The more strategic elements should cultivate a space to maximize the effectiveness of spontaneity, and strategically figure out ways to create change, understanding the different elements that exist. There should be efforts made to work around and network disparate parts of a movement, even if it’s for the sake of being aware of the landscape.
To create an effective strategy, it’s important to have three things: a vision, a method of analysis, and a matrix of tactics. We’re focusing on the method of analysis, including how that informs strategy and creates a bridge to our tactics.
What is analysis? For our purposes, it is three things. One, is an understanding of the world in the past (history). Two, an understanding of what the current situation is (current events + intelligence). Three, a theory of change, as in, a theory of how the world can be different in the future, along with the broad things that need to happen to get there.
We should understand the past, to create a mosaic of how we got to the present, contextualizing it, from current events to intelligence gathered. As we study popular and revised history, we should gather accounts from many perspectives, to shore up our knowledge for effective action.
We should understand the present, reading the current events using a similar methodology to our exploration of the past. Gather a variety of perspectives, discern discrepancies and understand why they occur, and acknowledge the different perspectives of your sources. We should also gather intelligence, through OSINT, rumor and gossip networks, and whatever else we need do for information on what’s really happening. Again, this is not the space for conspiracy. We gotta be able to back up our information.
We should understand the future, through a theory of change. This could be a broad theory made up of more specific theories, or a very specific way of how to make change. I tend to be against a purely universalist (there is a universal answer to complex issues) approach. I am also not very excited by the ephemerality of some poststructuralist critiques, which can sometimes devolve into non-answers. I’m interested in a dialectically structuralist, meta-structuralist, or meta-modernist approach, where we oscillate between more ephemeral and more rigid forms of understanding as necessary. Theories of change are necessarily and beneficially broad. It allows us to prepare for an uncertain future while giving us something to look back at. We can see how far we got by knowing where we started.
To create a theory of change, we can use this framework: If⇒ Then⇒ Because.
If we do this thing/action/tactic/strategy/campaign (this can be at any scale of our fractal)
Then we’ll get this result (what we’re expecting to happen)
Because of these reasons (our hypothesis going into the pending work).
Some interesting elements for a theory of change, from the Resource manual for a living revolution, are:
The nature of human beings (be careful exploring this—people tend to be very universalist with this)
The nature and sources of power (how does power-over [power as most people think of it] work and operate)
The nature and sources of truth and authority
The analysis of the causes of social problems (returning to our analysis phase, along with the perspectives we bring)
The role of individuals and institutions in social change
The vision of the way it can or should be (I’ve also referred to this as worldbuilding)
The mechanisms of change, existing or potential (how people make the changes)
These elements will color and shape your If⇒ Then⇒ Because statements. We can think of these as implicit elements to that statement. It could be useful to make those explicit, so that you and the folks we’re working with have more clarity on our built in assumptions, and challenge them if needed.
Focusing in on that last point, the different mechanisms of change here are some of the ones that the manual mentioned cover:
Becoming the decision makers/powers that be (I am hyper skeptical of this…undemocratic decision-making is the issue)
Influencing the powers that be to make better decisions (a lot of opportunity here, in the interim between undemocracy and democracy)
Confronting the powers that be and forcing them to do what you want (very effective from a speed perspective, can quickly lead to repression of not done deftly)
Education (of decision makers and/or everyday people)
Care Taking (meeting the immediate needs of the crisis)
Social change through personal change (not in the liberal [individual choices sense], this is an acknowledgement that you should make sure that you’re working on yourself while working to change the world)
Building alternatives (this is where alternative institutions come in.
I have a special affinity for confronting power, education, caretaking, and building alternatives. These feel like the things that are, when possible, some of the best ways to ensure change occurs. This is not to say we shouldn’t do the other things. But again, we should move away from the interest in finding one massive fix to change the world, and look for how an ecosystems of changes creates that world that we want.
Once we have our If⇒ Then⇒ Because statement, we can start zooming in on our fractal. We can get into tactics. Ideally, we are constantly changing the shape of our fractal as necessary. If tactics aren’t working, we should understand why and adjust, referring to our analysis and revising. It is always worthwhile to make sure that our models are as aligned with reality as we can manage at that moment.

Hey, you believed Hamas-sourced Palestinian casualty numbers in Gaza?
You are not immune to propaganda.
source: https://www.wsj.com/articles/hamass-numbers-games-civilian-death-counts-casualty-data-b99140eb
Hamas’s Casualty Numbers Games
By David Adesnik
As Israeli troops batter Hamas and drive its surviving forces to the southern edge of the Gaza Strip, the Gaza Health Ministry has etched in the public mind a statistic that casts Israel’s war of self-defense as a bloodbath: 70% of the dead in Gaza are women and children, the Hamas-run ministry says, and more than 30,000 lives in total have been lost. Is it true?
President Biden, who pledged in October that Israel would never stand alone, has recently talked about “red lines” to prevent the Jewish state from eliminating Hamas’s final stronghold—because, as Mr. Biden put it, “they cannot have another 30,000 Palestinians dead.”
Mr. Biden isn’t alone in taking Hamas’s numbers at face value. The United Nations also relies on the Health Ministry’s data. The U.S. news media include the ministry’s latest numbers in its daily updates on the war. In October the Washington Post’s Adam Taylor vouched for Hamas, writing: “Many experts consider figures provided by the ministry reliable, given its access, sources and accuracy in past statements.”
Yet in a series of lengthy reports, the ministry admits that the figures the media treat as authoritative rely in part on reporting from . . . the media. The ministry says its casualty counts include two types of fatalities: those recorded by medical facilities and those reported by “reliable media sources.” In its March 31 report, the ministry attributes 15,070 of the dead, or 45.9%, to news reports. From which outlets? The ministry never says.
Its choices are limited, since Gaza has no independent media. It has networks like al-Aqsa that are extensions of Hamas and other armed factions. It has Al Jazeera, the Qatari state network that describes the atrocities of Oct. 7 as an “incursion” and denies that any “widespread and systematic” sexual assault took place. Western outlets report from Gaza, but they rely on the ministry for their casualty data.
Initially, the ministry’s data earned the confidence of foreign journalists because Gaza health officials had direct access to information from local medical facilities. Yet the ministry’s reports concede there has been an “interruption of communication” with many hospitals in the strip—meaning those from which Hamas withdrew amid the Israeli offensive. At present the ministry receives fresh data from only two facilities, both in southern Gaza.
While acknowledging the issues with its data, the ministry hasn’t made much effort to educate those who rely on its numbers. It distributes its statistical reports via Telegram, a social-media app, and only in Arabic. The ministry’s daily updates don’t disclose underlying issues with the data.
All the same, an enterprising correspondent with a willingness to question the dominant narrative could easily have found and translated the reports. Gabriel Epstein, an analyst at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, did this soon after the ministry published its first statistical report in December. He found that the deaths attributed to “reliable media sources” consisted almost entirely of women and children. Of the 6,629 fatalities attributed to media, 1,941 were women, 4,678 children and only 10 men.
Over time, media reports have accounted for an ever larger share of the ministry’s data. Of nearly 11,000 fatalities reported between Jan. 1 and March 31, the ministry derived 77.7% from media reports. Adult males account for only 9% of fatalities attributed to the news, even though Gaza’s sex ratio is close to even and more than half its residents are adults.
If one removes the questionable data from the ministry’s numbers, it becomes clearer that Israel has made considerable efforts to minimize the war’s effect on civilians, while Hamas continues to use hospitals as fortresses. Instead of drawing so-called red lines for a U.S. ally, as if it were a threat to American values and interests, Mr. Biden should encourage Israel to dispatch Hamas swiftly, since the terror group has brought nothing but misery to Gazans and Israelis alike.
Mr. Adesnik is director of research at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies.

Love Live! Sunshine!! Season 1: EP 1-7 Watchthrough
Tumblr media
i dunno why i decided 2023 to be my idol year, but anyway, we're on Sunshine!!
#1: "I Want to Shine!!"
okay, so unlike the original, sunshine wants to throw all these characters at us at once, and honestly, nice? i feel like these characters are even more immediately gripping and distinct. also, the show looks even better i think? i am liking.
these two share one braincell
Tumblr media
#2: "Catch the Transfer Student!"
sunshine is so good, man
Tumblr media
best girl
Tumblr media
i'm like way more into this than the original love live already and i'm not quite sure why cause nothing it dramatically better, i just think everything is slightly better and that builds up. it's slightly prettier, it has slightly more interesting characters and dynamics, etc.
also, chika is straight up reading the love live wiki right there
Tumblr media
the love live songs i have on my spotify so far btw
Tumblr media
i love how when i started the franchise i kept reiterating how the idol style and its songs isn't really for me, and look at me now
i mean, still not an idol fan, but bangers are bangers
#3: "First Step!"
oh my god i love how sunshine subverted it!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
the original love live's corresponding scene always stood out to me as its most emotionally effective one, but I think sunshine did almost just as good here, having chika tear up a bit but then bringing the crescendo back with, an all time favourite trope, THE POWER OF COMMUNITY
there's a  definite weird sense when watching this show, cause you're aware that it's a franchise very specifically hand-crafted to appeal to its otaku audience that makes it feel a bit grossly commercialized, but that doesn't mean there's only commercial value and no artistic.
artists still make these shows, and i think they emanate a lot of genuine warmth. i think it's telling that they could've continued milking μ's but instead they allowed them to retire and took the risk of focusing on a new set of girls.
#4: "Two Girls' Feelings"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i love how sunshine!! is using μ's as a direct inspiration for our characters here, and how we've tied very specific characters and why they motivate our new cast specifically (the rin one was especially sweet, cause it was one of the cutest scenes in the OG series)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
sunshine!! has just done such a great job. i don't think the original ever really shone when focusing on its side cast they way this episode did, so i'm glad to see this new iteration just improving on the franchise's core strengths
#5: "Yohane Descends"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It is very nice for Yohane to be self aware of her chuunibyo stage and her struggle being trying to grow out of it. It makes for a lot of layered comedy, those two clashing sides, but also makes it even more sweet when the others accept her anyway.
Honestly, you don't need to grow out of it. My advice? Channel that creative spirit into something that fits it the best, where you get the most positive feedback from it and the least negative. You can always put the persona on, but it'll impact your ability to make friends. If your IDOL persona is your outlet instead, then that’s the best of both worlds, right?
#6: "Let's Make a PV"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
That's it, right there. Community. What makes your town special is not the town itself nor its locations, it is the people. The relationships you forge with those around you, the support networks you can rely on in need, the way everyone cleans the beach together. That's special.
Also, yes, Sunshine!! is kinda bound by the shackles of its predecessor. I think it's fine so far, cause Sunshine is basically the original concept executed to perfection, but any future series is gonna have to do something a bit different.
#7: "Tokyo"
doesn't say word. does a spinning flip over them to assert dominance. queen.
Tumblr media
i love how in the meantime there's this tragic shakespearean drama brewing with the seniors lol
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
late night talks? they are so in love.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love You's outfits lol. She went through a dozen this episode, but even just her regular hat has her name on it. Like, imagine if mine just said "Theodor." Granted, her name is You, so it's probably easier to find a hat with that already on.
Tumblr media
yohane just casually practicing dark chants in the background always cracks me up
Tumblr media
i said it before (or maybe i didn't actually) but i went into sunshine!! with expectations of it surpassing the original love live cause from what i've peeked sunshine!! seems to have the best character designs. so far, i am being proven right.
I'd like for our "antagonists" maybe to sometime also be a full on team, and not just two or three people. i understand why they don't do it, cause it's not a show about the rivalry, but if we ever wanted to do that variation, it'd be down.
ALSO IF WE DON'T GET A MUSE CAMEO IN THE SUNSHINE MOVIE I WILL RIOT
EP 8-13 watchthrough: https://www.tumblr.com/tharizdun-03/721261502412324864/love-live-sunshine-season-1-ep-8-13?source=share

Game pioneer Will Wright wants to make games ‘as personal as our dreams’ [July 10, 2012]
Tumblr media
GamesBeat 2012: In Will Wright's vision of the future, the player is the game.
After more than 30 years of steady evolution, gaming has reached its own version of the Cambrian Explosion, SimCity creator and Stupid Fun Club founder Will Wright argued today during his GamesBeat 2012 keynote speech in San Francisco.
“Lately, it feels as if the industry has exploded in a million directions at once,” Wright said, “and I think that’s very healthy.”
Wright is one of the most legendary names in gaming. He’s the creator of the SimCity and The Sims franchises, two of gaming’s cornerstones.
This explosion includes mobile and social platforms, but Wright believes gaming can go still further. “[Video games] should be as personal to us as our dreams,” Wright said.
To illustrate his point, Wright went on a whirlwind tour across 30 years of technology, beginning with how the military uses wargames to map out war plans and continuing through the evolution of writing, the explosion of personal data, and the ways in which technology alters our personal perceptions.
One trend Wright highlighted was the rise of augmented reality through smartphones and other devices, which he argued is conditioning us to a new worldview that effectively blurs the real with the digital. This new perception opens us to possibilities that might have been invisible before, such as “illuminating” something like a gathering of car collectors around the corner that we otherwise would not have known about.
Gaming technology can be a matchmaking device for the world around me versus very particular things, like what mood I’m in,” Wright said. “I think it could potentially make my life far more interesting.”
Wright also believes in the power of metrics to make experiences more personal, which he highlighted by showing how data from The Sims could be used to uncover roadblocks and other issues, with mechanics being modified to match. Going forward, this data will only get more comprehensive, he said. What Wright described as “little islands of data” are breaking down as we move into the cloud, with the result a growing “wake” of information on social networks. Already, such data influence the design of social games like Farmville, allowing developers to determine what is “sticky” with gamers and what isn’t.
Based on this, Wright believes that the one overriding trend in gaming is personalization. In essence, reality will begin to replace consoles as the platform. “We don’t have these little islands. We are building experiences that are accessible at any time. They will be more like biological experiences.”
The rapid proliferation of sensors such as those in Google Maps and increasingly granular metric analysis will enable such experiences, Wright said. Already, Wright’s Stupid Fun Club has launched a new venture with Warner Digital to explore some of these possibilities, using personal metrics to bring new experiences.
“I believe this is the direction that games are going,” Wright said with confidence. “We want games to be more relevant to the individual. We want them to be more personal to our lives.”

Maximizing Podcast Revenue: Tips and Techniques
Podcasting has evolved from a niche hobby into a lucrative industry. For many, the question isn’t just about creating engaging content but also about making a living from it. This article explores various strategies to monetize your podcast effectively, helping you turn your passion into a profitable venture. Whether you’re a seasoned podcaster or just starting out, these methods can provide a sustainable income while you continue to produce the content you love.
1. Sponsorships and Advertisements
How to Attract Sponsors: To attract sponsors, your podcast needs a substantial and engaged audience. Start by identifying potential sponsors whose products or services align with your podcast’s theme. Create a media kit that includes your listener demographics, download statistics, and engagement metrics. This will help potential sponsors see the value in partnering with you.
Types of Sponsorship Deals:
Pre-Roll Ads: These are short advertisements that play at the beginning of your podcast. They are usually around 15–30 seconds long.
Mid-Roll Ads: These ads are inserted in the middle of your podcast and can be slightly longer, often 30–60 seconds.
Post-Roll Ads: These play at the end of your podcast and are usually the shortest.
Tips for Integrating Ads Naturally:
Make sure the ads are relevant to your audience.
Use a conversational tone to maintain the flow of your podcast.
Personalize the ads by sharing your experiences with the product or service.
2. Crowdfunding
Platforms Like Patreon and Kickstarter: Crowdfunding platforms allow your listeners to support your podcast financially. Patreon is a popular choice for podcasters, as it offers a subscription model where listeners can contribute a set amount each month. Kickstarter is more suited for one-time funding campaigns, ideal for launching a new project or season.
Engaging with Your Audience to Support Your Podcast: Regularly engage with your audience to build a loyal community. Use social media, email newsletters, and direct interactions during your podcast to inform your listeners about your crowdfunding efforts. Transparency about how funds will be used can also increase support.
Creating Exclusive Content for Supporters: Offer incentives such as bonus episodes, early access to content, behind-the-scenes footage, or exclusive merchandise. This not only encourages support but also makes your supporters feel valued and appreciated.
3. Merchandise
Designing and Selling Branded Merchandise: Merchandise can be a significant revenue stream. Create designs that resonate with your audience, such as T-shirts, mugs, and stickers featuring your podcast’s logo or popular catchphrases. Use platforms like Teespring or Printful for print-on-demand services, which handle production and shipping for you.
Partnering with Print-on-Demand Services: Print-on-demand services allow you to sell merchandise without upfront costs. You can create and list products, and these services will only produce items when an order is placed, reducing financial risk and inventory management.
Marketing Your Merchandise Effectively: Promote your merchandise during your podcast episodes, on your website, and across your social media channels. Offer limited-time discounts or bundles to encourage purchases. Share photos and testimonials from listeners who have bought your merchandise to create social proof.
4. Affiliate Marketing
Finding Relevant Affiliate Programs: Join affiliate programs that align with your podcast’s niche. Amazon Associates, ShareASale, and Commission Junction are popular networks offering a wide range of products and services to promote.
Promoting Products that Align with Your Podcast’s Niche: Choose products or services that your audience would find useful and relevant. For example, a tech podcast could promote gadgets and software, while a health podcast might focus on fitness equipment and supplements.
Tracking Affiliate Links and Maximizing Earnings: Use unique affiliate links provided by the affiliate programs to track your referrals. Regularly check your performance reports to see which promotions are most effective. Adjust your strategies based on what resonates most with your audience.
5. Premium Content
Offering Bonus Episodes or Early Access: Create exclusive content for premium subscribers. This can include additional episodes, extended interviews, or early access to regular episodes. Platforms like Apple Podcasts and Patreon make it easy to offer subscription-based content.
Subscription Models on Platforms Like Apple Podcasts: Apple Podcasts now allows creators to offer paid subscriptions directly through their app. This makes it easy for listeners to support your podcast and access premium content within the same platform they use to listen.
Ensuring Value for Premium Subscribers: To retain subscribers, ensure that your premium content is high-quality and provides value. Regularly update and engage with your premium subscribers, offering them a sense of community and exclusive benefits.
Conclusion: Monetizing a podcast requires a blend of creativity, strategy, and engagement. By exploring these methods — sponsorships, crowdfunding, merchandise, affiliate marketing, and premium content — podcasters can turn their passion into a profitable venture. Each strategy requires effort and dedication, but with persistence, you can create a sustainable income stream from your podcast.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
Introduction Ever wondered what sets successful people apart from the rest? What is their secret weapon that unlocks their potential and propels them to greatness? This article delves deep into the habits, mindsets, and strategies that successful people employ to achieve their dreams. Let's embark on this journey of discovery and unlock your potential. The Mindset of Successful People Growth vs. Fixed Mindset Successful individuals often possess a growth mindset. Coined by psychologist Carol Dweck, a growth mindset is the belief that abilities and intelligence can be developed through dedication and hard work. In contrast, a fixed mindset sees talents as innate gifts. Embracing a growth mindset encourages resilience and persistence, essential traits for achieving success. The Power of Positive Thinking Positive thinking isn't just a buzzword; it's a powerful tool. Successful people harness the power of positive thinking to overcome obstacles and maintain a forward-looking attitude. This mindset fosters creativity and reduces stress, creating a fertile ground for success. The Role of Discipline and Consistency Building Daily Routines Discipline and consistency are the bedrock of success. Successful people often stick to daily routines that align with their goals. These routines provide structure and ensure that essential tasks are completed, leading to cumulative progress over time. The Importance of Habits Habits form the backbone of daily routines. Good habits, once established, run on autopilot, reducing the need for constant willpower. Whether it's exercising regularly, reading daily, or maintaining a healthy diet, these habits contribute significantly to long-term success. Setting Clear and Achievable Goals SMART Goals Explained Setting goals is crucial, but they must be SMART: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. This framework ensures that goals are clear and attainable, providing a roadmap for success. Long-term vs. Short-term Goals Both long-term and short-term goals are essential. Long-term goals provide direction, while short-term goals offer immediate milestones that keep motivation high. Balancing both types ensures steady progress and sustained focus. Time Management Techniques Prioritization Methods Effective time management starts with prioritization. Techniques like the Eisenhower Matrix help identify tasks that are urgent and important, allowing successful people to focus on what truly matters. The Pomodoro Technique The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method that breaks work into intervals, usually 25 minutes, separated by short breaks. This technique enhances focus and productivity, making it a favorite among successful individuals. Embracing Failure as a Learning Tool The Growth Mindset Approach to Failure Failure is inevitable, but how we respond to it makes all the difference. Successful people view failure as a learning opportunity. By analyzing what went wrong, they gain valuable insights and avoid repeating mistakes. Real-life Examples of Learning from Failure History is replete with examples of successful people who failed before they succeeded. From Thomas Edison’s numerous failed attempts to invent the lightbulb to J.K. Rowling’s early rejections, these stories highlight the importance of perseverance and learning from failure. The Importance of Networking Building Meaningful Connections Networking is about more than just collecting business cards. It's about building meaningful connections that can provide support, advice, and opportunities. Successful people understand the value of a robust network. Leveraging Your Network for Success A strong network can open doors that might otherwise remain closed. Whether it's finding mentors, collaborators, or job opportunities, leveraging your network is a critical component of success. Continuous Learning and Skill Development Lifelong Learning: The Key to Staying Relevant In a rapidly changing world, continuous learning is essential. Successful people commit to lifelong learning to stay relevant and competitive. This includes formal education, professional development, and self-directed learning. Resources for Continuous Education There are myriad resources available for continuous education. From online courses and webinars to books and podcasts, successful individuals take advantage of these tools to expand their knowledge and skills. Maintaining Physical and Mental Health The Connection Between Health and Success Health is wealth, as the saying goes. Maintaining physical and mental health is crucial for sustained success. A healthy body supports a sharp mind, leading to better performance in all areas of life. Tips for a Healthy Lifestyle Successful people prioritize their health by eating balanced diets, exercising regularly, and getting enough sleep. Additionally, they practice mindfulness and stress-relief techniques to maintain mental well-being. Finding Balance and Avoiding Burnout The Importance of Work-Life Balance Achieving success shouldn’t come at the cost of personal well-being. Work-life balance is essential to prevent burnout and maintain long-term productivity. Successful people find ways to balance their professional and personal lives. Strategies for Preventing Burnout Preventing burnout involves setting boundaries, taking regular breaks, and engaging in hobbies and activities that rejuvenate the mind and body. Successful people understand the importance of downtime to recharge. The Role of Mentorship
Tumblr media
How Mentors Can Guide You Mentors provide invaluable guidance and support. Successful people often credit their mentors for helping them navigate challenges and seize opportunities. A mentor’s experience and insights can accelerate your path to success. Finding and Approaching a Mentor Finding a mentor involves identifying someone whose career path you admire and respectfully reaching out to them. Building a mentorship relationship requires mutual respect and a willingness to learn and grow. Utilizing Technology for Productivity Productivity Apps and Tools Technology can be a powerful ally in boosting productivity. Successful people utilize productivity apps and tools like task managers, calendars, and time trackers to stay organized and efficient. Managing Digital Distractions While technology aids productivity, it can also be a source of distraction. Successful individuals implement strategies to manage digital distractions, such as setting specific times for checking emails and using apps that block distracting websites. Financial Literacy and Management Basic Principles of Financial Literacy Financial literacy is crucial for managing personal and professional finances effectively. Understanding basic financial principles like budgeting, saving, investing, and managing debt is essential for long-term success. Managing Personal Finances for Success Successful people prioritize financial management, ensuring they live within their means and plan for the future. This includes building an emergency fund, investing wisely, and planning for retirement. Giving Back and Social Responsibility The Benefits of Philanthropy Giving back to the community is a common trait among successful individuals. Philanthropy not only helps those in need but also provides a sense of fulfillment and purpose. It fosters a sense of social responsibility and contributes to a positive reputation. Ways to Give Back to Your Community There are numerous ways to give back, from volunteering time and skills to donating money or resources. Successful people find causes they are passionate about and contribute in meaningful ways. Conclusion Unlocking your potential involves a combination of mindset, discipline, continuous learning, and a commitment to health and balance. Why enterprises are going hybrid and returning to colo! - CyberTalk

Why enterprises are going hybrid and returning to colo! - CyberTalk
Tumblr media Tumblr media
By Ervin Suarez, Security Engineer for Cable and Colocation Accounts, Check Point Software Technologies.
I’ve been closely observing a fascinating shift in the IT landscape and wanted to share some insights with all of you, especially given how these changes could impact our industry.
Lately, there’s been a noticeable shift among enterprises back towards colocation (colo) services, while they’ve simultaneously embraced hybrid cloud models. This trend is intriguing and speaks volumes about the evolving needs and strategies of businesses when it comes to managing IT infrastructure.
Why the shift, you might ask?
Cost efficiency: The reality is, while cloud services offer unmatched scalability, they can also escalate costs for specific workloads or data-intensive operations. Colocation offers a more predictable expense model, which is especially appealing for operations with stable demand.
Enhanced control and security: With colocation, businesses gain direct control over their physical servers, a non-negotiable for industries under tight regulatory scrutiny. This control translates into superior compliance and security, aligned with stringent industry standards.
Optimized performance: By strategically choosing colo sites, enterprises can drastically reduce latency for critical applications, ensuring high-performance outputs that cloud environments can sometimes struggle to match.
Flexibility and scalability: The hybrid model shines by offering the best of both worlds – colo for critical, stable workloads and cloud services for scalable, flexible needs. This balance is crucial for businesses that aim to maintain agility without compromising on reliability.
Robust business continuity: Distributing resources between colo and cloud environments enhances disaster recovery strategies, leveraging colo’s inherent infrastructure resilience and reliability.
Compliance with data sovereignty: In an era where data privacy reigns supreme, colocation facilities offer a strategic advantage by allowing businesses to physically host data within required jurisdictions, meeting stringent regulatory demands head-on.
What does this mean for us?
The resurgence in colocation interest, alongside a robust adoption of hybrid cloud strategies, indicates a balanced, pragmatic approach to digital infrastructure management. Businesses are seeking to optimize costs without sacrificing control, performance, or compliance.
We’re also seeing increasing collaborations between cloud and colo providers, simplifying the transition to hybrid models for enterprises. This partnership ecosystem paves the way for innovative solutions, making hybrid strategies more accessible and effective.
Innovations in networking and connectivity continue to blur the lines between colo and cloud, enabling more seamless management of distributed IT resources.
As we navigate these changes, it’s clear that flexibility, strategic planning, and an eye for optimization are key to leveraging the best of both colo and cloud worlds. The move towards hybrid infrastructures isn’t just a trend; it’s a strategic realignment of IT resources to better meet the demands of modern business operations.
This shift is supported by several trends and developments in the industry:
1. Resurgence of colocation: Colocation is becoming crucial again as companies become increasingly dependent on robust IT infrastructure to manage the growing volume of data. Traditional colocation provides reliable and secure options for IT infrastructure, which is critical given the rising importance of data privacy and security. Colocation solutions offer businesses a way to protect their data, ensure high availability, and achieve resilience while saving on capital expenditure and operational costs. This is because colocation allows businesses to leverage existing, well-maintained infrastructures which would otherwise require significant upfront investment (Datacenters).
2. Hybrid cloud flexibility: Hybrid cloud models are being recognized for their ability to provide agility and flexibility in the technology stack. This model allows enterprises to not only meet their current technological needs but also prepare for future demands. The hybrid cloud’s capacity to integrate edge computing with cloud architectures enables more businesses to adopt this technology. It effectively lowers latency, reduces bandwidth requirements, and enhances resiliency against network outages. This adoption is visible across various sectors, including telecommunications, retail, manufacturing, and energy, indicating a broad-based validation of the hybrid cloud’s value (The Enterprisers Project).
3. Multi-cloud and vendor-neutral environments: Enterprises are also moving towards a more vendor-neutral approach in their cloud and colocation strategies. This shift is partly due to the need to avoid vendor lock-in, which can limit flexibility and control. The hybrid and multi-cloud architectures, comprised of combinations of public clouds, private clouds, and colocation data centers, allow enterprises to tailor their IT infrastructure to meet specific needs while ensuring that they can manage and integrate various cloud services effectively (PacketFabric).
In summary, the trends towards colocation and hybrid cloud are driven by a need for cost efficiency, control, security, flexibility, and strategic deployment of IT resources. These models not only help with optimizing current operations, but also assist with scaling future technologies and infrastructure needs. Enterprises are increasingly aware of these benefits and are adjusting their IT strategies to leverage colocation and hybrid cloud solutions as part of their broader digital transformation initiatives.
I’m keen to hear your thoughts and experiences on this shift. How do you see the hybrid model shaping the future of IT infrastructure in your field?

In the ornate world of architecture where every detail matters and each line speaks volumes, success stems not only from impeccable craftsmanship but also from a robust online marketing strategy. Today, we delve into the cornerstone of architectural success: Effective online marketing. The transition from drafting tables to digital interfaces has catapulted architects into an era where their artistic prowess is only as good as their online presence. In this digitally-centralized world, the construction isn't merely physical; it's also digital. Just as an architect carefully designs a structure— considering the materials, surroundings, and eventual human interactions, he should similarly craft his online marketing strategy. When tailored to resonate deeply with its intended audience, a strong online strategy can transform a small architectural firm into an industry leader. Ahead, we explore why online marketing has become the cornerstone of architectural success. Developing an architectural practice isn't solely about creating awe-inspiring structures but also about showcasing this ability. Here, effective online marketing steps in, casting a spotlight on a firm's strengths while eliciting interest and patronage from the target demographic. With 80% of clients commencing their architectural hunt online, constructing a formidable online presence can no longer be regarded as optional. Undoubtedly, a website serves as the first point of contact for potential clients. A well-optimized site that subtly embeds relevant keywords aids in higher ranking on search engines, increasing visibility and ensuring a steady stream of potential leads. Similarly, lean into social media's influence. Platforms such as Pinterest and Instagram, garnished with high-quality photos and engaging short clips, can serve as a portfolio showcasing the architectural genius of your firm. Equally vital is nurturing a robust professional network on LinkedIn, a veritable hotbed for fruitful collaborations and a source of potential clients. However, online marketing isn't just about drawing attention- it's about keeping it. This is where content marketing strolls in, engendering interest and connection between architects and their audience. By sharing blogs, articles, infographics, and case studies, architects can inform and engage their audience. Simultaneously, these narratives, imbued with carefully researched SEO keywords, ensure that their content continues to attract and retain a wide audience. Moreover, online marketing offers architects a unique window into their clients' minds thanks to analytics. Such insights equip architects not only to shape their marketing efforts but also to impact their architectural work, delivering designs that directly respond to their clientele's evolving needs. Lastly, email marketing, arguably the most direct form of online marketing, allows architects to maintain a one-to-one communicative link with their clientele. By offering a steady stream of updates, insights, and reminders, architects can establish ongoing relationships, necessary for sustainable business growth. In conclusion, the world of architecture is no longer cordoned off on the construction site. Instead, it has extended into the digital realm, with online marketing as its cornerstone. With meticulous design and strategic implementation, this powerful marketing asset can lead architectural practices into a vibrant era of success. Engaging your clients, showcasing your work, lighting up your presence online and offline, architects now have the power to design not just structures, but also their path to success. Case Study: How Max Smith Architecture Leveled Up its Online Presence Max Smith Architecture is a modest firm located in Portland, Oregon. They understood that their website was their digital storefront and therefore, it had to showcase their projects and services to make a compelling impression on potential clients. Action: Have a professionally designed and user-friendly website. Make sure it is responsive for use on all devices (desktop, mobile), and that it showcases your work and services effectively. Step 3: Leverage SEO and Content Marketing Max Smith Architecture didn't just stop at developing an interactive website: they adopted SEO (Search Engine Optimization) techniques and content marketing to drive traffic. They began by creating valuable blog posts on topics such as ‘Modern Home Design Trends’, and ’How to Plan for an Office Space Renovation’. These posts not only provided useful information but also helped to improve their Search Engine Ranking. Action: Regularly publish valuable, original content that resonates with your target audience. Utilize SEO techniques to improve your website's ranking in search engine results. Step 4: Engage on Social Media Platforms Max Smith Architecture also recognized the power of social media in marketing. They made use of platforms such as Instagram, LinkedIn, and Pinterest to showcase their creativity and projects. Action: Have a strong social media presence. Engage with your audience, publish posts regularly, and showcase your work. Step 5: Utilize Email Marketing Last but not least, they implemented an email marketing strategy where they sent out a bi-monthly newsletter featuring their latest projects, blog posts, and any company news. Startup Sizzle or Fizzle? Avoiding Common Pitfalls for Entrepreneurial Success
Tumblr media
Launching your own startup is an exhilarating adventure, brimming with dreams of innovation and success. But the path from passionate idea to thriving business is often fraught with unforeseen hurdles. To navigate these challenges and turn your vision into reality, it's crucial to anticipate and avoid the most common startup mistakes. Let's embark on a journey through the potential potholes you might encounter, equipping you with strategies to steer clear and ensure a smooth ride: Startup Sizzle or Fizzle? Avoiding Common Pitfalls for Entrepreneurial Success 1. Falling in Love with Your Idea, Not Your Customer: It's natural to pour your heart and soul into your startup concept. However, mistaking personal belief for market validation can be perilous. Remember, you're not building something for yourself, but for a specific customer base. Validate your idea meticulously through thorough market research, customer interviews, and feedback loops. Don't be afraid to pivot if the data screams a different direction. 2. Chasing Funding Before Foundation: Securing funding can be tempting, but prioritizing it without a solid foundation is putting the cart before the horse. Focus first on building a strong business model, refining your value proposition, and demonstrating traction. Investors are attracted to promising ventures with a clear path to profitability, not mere ideas begging for cash. 3. Assembling the Wrong Team: Your team is the backbone of your startup. Hiring solely based on skills or friendship can be detrimental. Look for individuals who not only possess relevant expertise but also share your vision, values, and work ethic. Build a diverse team with complementary strengths and a collaborative spirit. Remember, synergy and cultural fit are crucial for long-term success. 4. Neglecting Financial Planning: Financial mismanagement is a major roadblock for many startups. Develop a comprehensive financial plan outlining your funding needs, projected revenue, expenses, and burn rate. Track your finances meticulously, forecast realistically, and be prepared to adjust your course if needed. Don't wait for a financial crisis to hit before seeking expert advice. 5. Ignoring Marketing and Sales: Building a great product isn't enough. You need to tell the world about it and convince them to buy. Develop a robust marketing and sales strategy tailored to your target audience. Don't underestimate the power of storytelling, branding, and building a strong online presence. Remember, marketing is an investment, not an expense. 6. Micromanaging Your Team: While providing guidance is essential, micromanaging stifles creativity and initiative. Trust your team, delegate tasks effectively, and empower them to make decisions. Foster a culture of open communication and feedback, enabling your team to thrive and contribute their best. 7. Failing to Adapt and Evolve: The entrepreneurial landscape is dynamic. Don't get stuck in your original plan if market conditions change, competitor strategies evolve, or customer needs shift. Be agile, gather feedback continuously, and be prepared to adapt your product, strategy, and operations to stay relevant and competitive. 8. Burning Out Before the Breakthrough: Building a startup is a marathon, not a sprint. Pace yourself, take breaks, and prioritize your well-being. Delegate tasks, build a support network, and seek help when needed. Remember, you can't pour from an empty cup. Your physical and mental health are critical to your startup's success. 9. Neglecting Legal and Regulatory Compliance: Ignoring legal and regulatory requirements can land you in hot water. Familiarize yourself with relevant laws, permits, and licensing requirements for your industry. Seek professional legal advice to ensure your business operates within the legal framework and mitigates potential risks. 10. Giving Up Too Soon: Building a successful startup rarely happens overnight. Perseverance is key. Be prepared for setbacks, learn from your mistakes, and don't lose sight of your vision. Celebrate small wins, maintain a positive attitude, and be willing to put in the hard work required to bring your dreams to life. This is not an exhaustive list, but it serves as a starting point for navigating the treacherous waters of the startup world. By learning from the mistakes of others, equipping yourself with knowledge and strategies, and maintaining a spirit of resilience and adaptation, you can increase your chances of steering your startup towards success. Remember, the journey is just as important as the destination. Embrace the challenges, learn from every step, and never stop believing in the power of your idea. Bon voyage! Read the full article

Effects Of Drinking Alcohol On Kidneys - Hiranandani Hospital Kidney
Tumblr media
It’s essential to look closely at how alcohol affects our kidneys. Everyone consuming alcohol should go through the complex topic of kidney health. This article seeks to offer a simple grasp of the clear results of drinking alcohol and how it might affect our kidneys. We dig into the fundamental but crucial elements, shedding light on how alcohol, often present in social situations, can impact the delicate balance in our kidneys. Continue with us as we uncover the consequences, stressing the importance of making well-informed choices to keep our kidneys healthy.
The Detrimental Impact On Kidneys
As we examine how alcohol affects our kidneys, a big worry arises — dehydration. Alcohol, recognised for making us thirsty, can stress our kidneys by upsetting the important water balance they need to work well. The connection between drinking alcohol and dehydration is clear and important.
When our bodies lose too much water, it stresses the kidneys, making it hard for them to clean out waste and keep our electrolytes in balance. It’s crucial to understand that casually enjoying a drink can lead to problems that harm the detailed functions of these important organs.
Recognising this basic link helps us understand how choosing alcohol casually can affect our insides. As we explore kidney health, acknowledging that alcohol makes us dehydrated is a crucial point. Keep following as we continue to uncover the complicated link between alcohol and kidneys, guiding you all to make informed choices for your kidney health.
Direct Effects On Renal Function
Moving beyond dehydration, alcohol affects our kidneys in another crucial way — through blood pressure. Drinking alcohol can make our blood pressure rise, impacting the health of our kidneys significantly, says Hiranandani Hospital Kidney.
Increased blood pressure puts an extra load on our kidneys, acting as essential filters in our bodies. The intricate network of blood vessels in these organs is sensitive to pressure changes. When alcohol comes into play, it can disturb this balance, causing a rise in blood pressure.
This surge in blood pressure isn’t without consequences. Our kidneys, responsible for managing blood pressure, deal with added stress. Prolonged exposure to high blood pressure can lead to damage over time, potentially affecting the efficiency of these vital organs.
Recognising this direct link highlights the need for a careful approach to alcohol consumption. It’s not just about occasional indulgence; it involves acknowledging the potential strain that alcohol puts on our renal system.
Stay tuned for the next part, where we discuss risk factors and the significance of moderation. Knowledge holds power, and our journey toward making informed decisions continues.
Risk Factors And Moderation
As we explore how alcohol affects kidneys, our focus turns to risks and the key idea of moderation. Knowing the possible dangers helps us make smart choices in this journey.
Understanding Safe Limits
As per Hiranandani Hospital Kidney transplant department, Determining what’s considered safe when drinking is crucial. Moderation is key, prompting people to understand the thin line between enjoyment and potential harm. Everyone must realise that moderate for one person might be too much for another.
Moderation isn’t just recommended; it acts as a protective barrier against potential dangers. Taking the initiative to know your limits is a proactive measure in maintaining the delicate balance within our kidneys.
Balancing Act
While we look at factors that may pose risks, the importance of leading a balanced life stands out. If we handle alcohol carefully, it doesn’t have to harm our kidneys. It’s finding a middle ground — having fun socially without risking our inner organs’ health.
Talking about risks, using an active voice highlights how individuals must actively choose wisely. It’s not just accepting possible harm; it’s actively understanding and reducing risks, showing people’s responsibility in making mindful decisions.
Conclusion: Striving for Balance
As we explore how alcohol affects our kidneys, we’ve gained essential knowledge. With insights on dehydration, blood pressure, and moderation, it’s time for action. If you require thorough kidney care, turn to Hiranandani Hospital. Trust the expertise of professionals like Dr. Sujit Chatterjee, Hiranandani Hospital’s CEO Hiranandani Hospital, especially if kidney health matters to you.
