Ohhhh can we get into it? That post about Louis San Fran bender. Going after people who look like lestat. Maybe Louis doesn’t sleep with all of them, maybe a few but he feeds on the rest and drains them. Lestat realizing he’s made his own little magnus in a way…
San Francisco era Louis being an utter and total freak is something that is so important to me, I really cannot stop talking about it. The psychosexual aspect of the gay serial killer phenomenon as it relates to Louis is something I've discussed a lot (on here and in my fic about that) because I think it explains so much about how he looks at sex and desire. Sex and violence can't really be separated in his head (Catholic freak), especially when he's at a serious low point, so when he engages with them they are often enacted together.
When he's alone in San Francisco, he seems to be in a weird place mentally where he's in a state of obvious apathy, but also more prone to gratuitous violence. I think it does make sense, even though it seems contradictory. Vampirism is inherently violent, so those outbursts are coming from a lack of will to restrain his nature rather than real passion and the release of built up pressure the way they did before. It's exceptionally chilling and predatory. There's something very human about losing control, but the way Louis seems to approach killing in the pre-TVL era is distinctly monstrous and inhuman.
I think it's in QotD that we find out Louis initially chose Daniel as a potential victim because of his resemblance to Lestat, so this is canonically where his mind is at the time of the interview. It also shows that he's was probably cognizant of what was going on even at the time and it doesn't even seem like it bothered him that much that he was doing it. That's what makes San Francisco Louis so scary imo, just that small acknowledgment shows us that his violence is honing in on something and the obsession is either setting in or already there.
The implication in the book (AND the original short story) that the place Louis met Daniel was a gay bar adds a layer to it as well in a very human and sexual sense. Not only did he choose a Lestat lookalike, but it seems like he chose to hunt in a (homo)sexually charged environment on purpose. His whole vibe reminds me of an addict who's been using for so long that there's no dopamine rush anymore and is getting more extreme in chasing a very particular high. The allegory of addiction is always very strong in Louis, but the way it presents during this period is kind of a continuation of that narrative.
I think if Lestat hadn't woken up, Louis could have easily devolved into what Magnus became. He has that incredibly addictive personality and he's prone to obsession and pathological rumination anyway. By 1973, we can see how detached he was from humanity already. Imagine him in 300 or 500 years, after so much death and isolation. Nothing in there except hunger and memories that he's clung to for so long that they're horrifically distorted, maybe unrecognizable except for blue eyes and blonde hair.
@nasnyys is the beautiful mind behind the Lestat POV aspect of this so I can't speak on that a ton, but I love it SO much. A huge part of Lestat's story is how he can't seem to break out of existing cycles and he's often the catalyst for that continuation against his will. It seems to disturb him the most when he sees those cycles repeating in Louis (to the point where I would say he imagines them at times), so I think this would absolutely not be lost on him. Maybe he would perceive it as Magnus "tainting" him to the point where whatever Lestat creates has some essence of his maker/abuser, like it's intrinsically a part of him somehow. It's very sad, I would love to think on it more and come back with something better to say!

I usually keep my silence with all the debates about Orlok and Ellen's relationship, whether or not it's coerced etc— But I desperately wanted to add some context from a pov that doesn't really get enough light on it.
Yes, I agree that their relationship is parasitic, but that's just the tip of the iceberg.
Get ready, we're gonna rant.
Ellen has openly admitted that she has been shunned throughout her life based on her behavior and supernatural aspects, and how her own father willingly shunned her aside because she was "strange." So naturally, she seeks comfort and acceptance from someone— A being of any kind, as long as she is accepted. And as someone who suffers from a very stigmatized illness, I can relate to her longing for companionship, especially since her mother seemed to be the only one who loved her for who and what she was; and since her mother died, she lost the only person who saw her for what she was: A human.. Or, well, a special kind of human.
Cue in Orlok, who Ellen awakes with her call at the beginning of the movie; he's slept for centuries, yet the call of a childlike teenager disturbs his sleep and sends him on a frenzy to find her. And for once in Ellen's life, someone wants her company despite her peculiarity. However, the whole part of whether or not he raped her is very blurred— She does confess that her father found her naked outside, and I admit how... Distressing that sounds to anyone who is a SA survivor; But the unknown blur of context is extremely important. So, maybe she was assaulted by Orlok, and maybe she wasn't.
But just imagine being like Ellen; You're so peculiar that no one wants you or loves you, and suddenly when you're at your wits end, this man— Though he is a beast— this man takes an interest in you just because of your strange and otherworldly afflictions? Naturally, you would willingly seek him out, maybe even love him— But then, finally, a human man comes along and loves you, even though there is a beast who treasures you as though you were made of gold, you want to be seen as normal for once in your melancholic life... And you choose the human.
That's how I saw the dynamic between Orlok and Ellen, as I am someone who has been in a similar predicament (except there were no vampire's,lol).. Any debate is welcome!

These excerpts from Van Richten's Guide to Vampires seem particularly intriguing in the context of Astarion’s “good” ending, as I’ve always been skeptical of the very idea of “fixing” a vampire. Even without considering the early concept of Astarion’s backstory, where he was already pursuing eternal life and acting immorally as a corrupt magistrate long before becoming a vampire.
In D&D lore, vampires are inherently evil creatures by default. Their alignment undergoes a drastic shift upon their transformation: emotions and feelings become distorted, moral principles (if they weren’t already corrupt before the transformation) are warped, and the thirst for power and control grows significantly. However, this aspect is often overlooked when it comes to Astarion’s spawn route, while all "vampiric" traits are attributed exclusively to his Ascended version. This, in reality, is a selective application of the lore.
Stephen Rooney: "It's important to have that… and also… he's a vampire, he's all about blood and he's all about darker sides of humanity. So, it's important that that's represented in the game."
Given these facts, the idea of shifting Astarion's alignment to good or even neutral seems highly unlikely. Considering the nature of vampirism, keeping him away from dark desires would be a significant challenge for Tav. It might even require rolling Charisma checks every few years to prevent him from succumbing to temptation. The only real way to move him toward a stable "redemption" would be to cure him of vampirism, which, as far as I know, is possible within D&D. However, the game itself never addresses this possibility. Instead, the spawn-ending merely offers the chance to seek a way to remain in the sun without sacrifices or deals with dark powers, as Ascended Astarion does.
However, according to Neil Newbon, Astarion is in harmony with his vampirism.
"Astarion’s challenge wasn't directly related to him being a vampire. It was that he was a spawn, and that he wasn't free. He is technically free now. [...] He's okay with being a vampire."
The prospect of being cured of vampirism does not even appeal to Astarion.
Tumblr media
The first classification includes those who became vampires because of “deadly desire,” like Strahd Von Zarovich (see Chapter XIII, “The Who’s Doomed of Ravenloft,” in the Ravenloft boxed set).
The second comprises those who became vampires as the result of a curse, whether laid by a mortal or by an evil deity.
The third and final category is the most numerous: those unfortunates who became vampires as a result of the attack of another vampire.
The first two categories have one major factor in common: in almost all cases, these vampires were evil while they were alive. The transition to undeath never affects this, except, in some cases, to intensify their evil.
The final category is a completely different case. Victims of vampires have no commonality with regard to ethos, moral strictures, philosophy of life, care toward others, or any other factor. A victim of a vampire could be a saint or a sinner, a paladin or an assassin, a compassionate healer or a ruthless alley-basher.
The fact is that the vast majority of vampires are chaotic and extremely evil. How does this come about? In most cases, it seems that the transition to undeath itself brings about this grim change in the victim’s mentality; the Fledgling’s previous worldview is largely irrelevant.
There are, however, some fascinating exceptions—documented cases of Fledgling vampires that managed to retain some of the attitudes and beliefs they had while alive, at least for a time. What sets these exceptions apart? Was it, as some sages suggest, a characteristic of the vampire that created them? Or was it something inherent within the victim?
My own theory is this: the victim must possess immense strength of will, and the vampire that killed them must be prevented, in some way, from implementing the innate control such creatures have over “secondary” vampires. (This can happen if the creating vampire leaves the area or is destroyed between the time of the victim’s death and the night the victim first rises as a vampire.)
Some of the most fascinating examples of this sort of "carryover" were recorded by a sage whose name has been tragically lost in a treatise whose title I have borrowed (with thanks) for this chapter: The Mind of the Vampire. Two examples follow:
A young, naive man, raised in a sheltered and privileged family, was slain by a vampire passing through the neighborhood. At first, he was unaware of his true nature (or unwilling to accept it), believing that his "death" had been nothing more than a profound illness and that his "premature" burial was merely a mistake by his overzealous family. However, evidence of his vampiric nature soon became apparent. The poor wretch was unable to fully renounce the life he had left behind and took to "haunting" his old home, watching from the shadows and pretending he was still, at least peripherally, part of mortal life. He might have seemed a wholly pathetic figure were it not for his vicious attacks on anyone who dared to take away the semblance of his former life.
An intrepid vampire hunter was slain by one of the creatures she so tenaciously hunted; the monster that killed her was immediately destroyed by her colleagues. For reasons unknown, these colleagues neglected to take the necessary precautions to prevent the woman from rising as a vampire. The trauma she experienced upon realizing her vampiric condition was almost—but not quite—enough to drive her mad. She had taken up her life's work as a moral duty, committed to ridding the world of the scourge of vampirism, and now she had become the very thing she had always hated! Despite the shock, she resolved to make the best of the hand Fate had dealt her. She dedicated her unlife to continuing her mortal mission, using her newfound powers to track down and destroy others of her kind. Tragically, her sense of duty soon became corrupted by a quest for power, and she was ultimately destroyed by Strahd Von Zarovich.
Van Richten's Guide to Vampires. TSR, 1991, Chapter XII: "The Mind of the Vampire: The Psychology of Immortality."
But this thesis raises a fascinating question: if we set aside the matter of feeding habits, could a vampire exhibit other behavior patterns that might be described as “good”? The answer is “theoretically yes,” and I can even cite one short-lived example.
A man of good alignment was killed by a vampire and subsequently became a vampire himself, initially under the control of his dark master. When the master vampire was destroyed, the “minion” vampire became free-willed. Despite his undead condition, he still held the beliefs and attitudes that had, during his life, categorized him as Good. In secret, he resolved to use his powers to at least partially amend the damage caused by both himself and his master. For several decades, he acted as a secret benefactor to his hometown.
Unfortunately, this situation changed over time. At first, the undead benefactor sought no recognition, keeping his identity and nature completely secret. He lived in a cave on the outskirts of town and had no contact with the living. However, after a decade, it seems he began to resent the lack of gratitude shown by the townsfolk for his generosity. He started leaving behind notes requesting some form of “concrete appreciation,” generally in the form of money, in exchange for his efforts. (Of course, he had no need for money; the coins were purely symbolic of the thanks he felt he deserved.) His demands grew increasingly steep until the townsfolk decided his requests were excessive and stopped paying.
At this point, the vampire’s feelings toward the townsfolk turned to hatred. In his rage, he fell upon them like a scourge, terrorizing them until he was eventually destroyed by a group of intrepid adventurers.
I have a theory that explains this transformation. Eternity is a long time, and as the years passed, the vampire’s feelings began to change. Gradually, he lost his sense of kinship with the living and started prioritizing his own desires—even when those desires were irrational—over theirs. Eventually, he came to view their very lives as insignificant and unworthy of his consideration.
I strongly believe that this shift in attitude happens, inevitably, to all vampires. For some, it occurs almost immediately; for others, it may take decades. Although I lack concrete evidence to support this conjecture, I suspect that no vampire can maintain a nature other than Chaotic Evil beyond the Fledgling age category.

Random Ghoulposting: A Gay Ghoul?!? Followup, part I
Tumblr media
So, my little "No gay ghouls? hold my coffee" joke post seems to have gone a bit viral, which I was not at all expecting; anyway, I just wanted to post a little followup with some of my personal thoughts and theories apropos of Tokyo Ghoul and the lgbt community. I wouldn't consider myself to be queer, but I do know a bunch of people in that community, so, idk, hopefully this is insightful.
Obviously you are welcome to disagree with me, this is just my specific interpretation.
The Fandom
As I've deep-dove into the TG fandom in the last few months, I've discovered this really interesting paradox in that Sui Ishida, the author, has a really unfortunate tendency to rely on negative stereotypes and tropes for his characterization of queer characters. And yet, at the same time, TG seems to deeply resonate with (some) members of the lgbtq community because its themes of being an outsider in greater society and the importance of learning to accept those who are different from you. Like I don't think I've ever seen a work be both so riddled with homophobic/transphobic stereotypes and also so beloved by people in the queer community (at least so far as I can tell on Tumblr, which is, admittedly, a microcosm).
A couple of reasons for this, I think. For one, I've noticed a lot of queer people really resonate with horror and fantasy. And not just queer people -- people of any minority/marginalized identity, really. But it is a pretty pronounced trend among queer folks as far as I've seen. Fantasy and horror are this really great venue for exploring feelings of alienation and "otherness" in ways that can honestly feel more authentic expressed with "unreal" elements than in a more strictly realist fashion. Like instead of it being like, "ok, here's this gay/black/disabled/autistic/whatever character, you're supposed to relate to them because you share an identity," it's more like, all right, this character is a werewolf/vampire/ghoul/whatever, and this story shows viscerally how it FEELS to be "other," and THAT is what makes it relatable.
So, even though TG does have some homophobic aspects to it, the premise, of a group of people who are marginalized by society for something that isn't even their choice, but who are still shown to be complex *people* just as much as the human characters, would really resonate with anyone from any marginalized background, queer people included.
(I mean, I'm an Autistic somewhat-acespec Christian girl with anxiety and a certain amount of religious trauma who has a special interest in dark fantasy and classic literature, and TG hits me RIGHT in the identity-specific feels, so I can see how it would for others too).
The other thing is that, even though Ishida relies pretty heavily on problematic queer villainy tropes, I think he does just good enough of a job of giving all of his characters some shred of humanity or relatability, that ... well, I won't say that it's *okay*, because it's still not, but I think readers like myself are a bit more willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.
Like yes, Nico is kind of a walking toxic gay stereotype. But let's also not forget that he stood up to an *extremely* physically and emotionally abusive partner to try to protect Kaneki and two other innocent victims, just because he thought it was the right thing to do. Tsukiyama also falls into the predatory gay man stereotype, at least at first, but he was just so enjoyable and fun (and, despite all his weird cannibal obsessiveness, he did seem to genuinely *like* Kaneki as a person) that he became a fan-favorite even when he was still the stereotypical queer villain of the week. Ishida also gave him something of a series-long redemption arc, turning him into a complex and lovable character who is, still, a fan favorite. Uta is a legitimately cool and nice guy, even if he does do some *very* morally questionable things with the Clown Masks later on. Even Jason is a monster plain and simple, but he became that way because he himself was abused, and his reminisces about his mother remind us that even the worst people still have someone they love.
I haven't read all the way through :re yet, and the negative queer tropes apparently get even worse there ... Mutsuki's descent into mental illness and jealous rage plays into a number of uncomfortable transphobic and misogynistic tropes, but I guess it sort of makes sense in the context of their past and struggles with mental illness, and the themes of the story with the relationship between trauma and moral decay. And prior to that really unfortunate arc, Mutsuki was genuinely a super cool character. Matsuri Washuu's profession of love to Urie was ... real weird, and the way he did it was gratuitous ... but you do kind of feel bad for the guy for being basically forced into marrying a woman he isn't attracted to for the family honor.
Then, of course, you have all the characters who aren't canonically queer, but are so relatable in more positive ways for queer folks that many fans headcanon them to be queer. Hide's unconditional love and devotion for Kaneki comes to mind. Or Hsiao and Saiko coming across as being queer but in a good/cool way. Or Juuzo's ambiguous gender expression, and Juuzo being completely unhinged but also one of the most well-loved characters in the series.
So I guess what I'm saying is ... yeah, the portrayal of queer characters in TG is problematic, and I don't mean to be defending it, exactly, but I guess what I'm saying is that even when the author is being awful with the tropes, he's still somehow able to write characters who feel human enough to occasionally transcend those tropey boxes he pushes them into.
I will also note that most of the queer or queer-ish characters are still alive in the final chapter. So, of all of the terrible tropes TG engages in with its queer characters, at least "bury your gays" isn't one of them.
IDK just my thoughts. I'll be posting another follow-up with some of my in-universe headcanons later on, I think.

what is it about crowferi that you personally don’t like?
Oookaaaay first I want to preface this by saying that if you or anyone reading this ships it, I don't really care and all my hating is kept to myself and this blog so go enjoy your doomed toxic yaoi👍 I just enjoy being a whiny little hater (also I'm very hyped up about miku expo and that leads to questionable decsisions aslfkfnen)
The short answer: my personal interpretation of both characters seperately and their relationship doesn't make for any healthy relationship, let alone a romantic one. I know that that's the appeal for many but I preffer my ships to be mostly healthy
Longer answer (yapper mode activated):
As I said, I like my ships mostly healthy.
From the moment Ferid and Crowley met, Ferid was manipulative and abusive. He tormented Crowley, picked off everyone important to him one by one and made sure the only 'human' thing about Crowley later is his desire for revenge, which fizzles out by the time they meet up again, essentially turning Crowley into the prefect guard dog for Ferid. Call me a puritan or whatever but that's horrific abuse and torment, isn't it?
Now does Crowley mind? From what we're told he's only mildly annoyed with Ferid sometimes and otherwise even enjoys Ferids insane little schemes.
Still, this is very much an abuser x abused situation, which I don't vibe with. I get it's ficiton tho so I just don't engage and block, maybe whine in private about it.
It's not just any toxic yaoi, it's toxic from only one side. For me, the appeal of toxic yaoi/yuri is that both sides are equally horrible to eachother. For crowferi, Ferid is basically the only toxic one (or yk, abusive) from the start and Crowley just takes it. That's not a fun dynamic (for me)!!!!
Another thing is the massive mischaracterization of both of them? Now don't get me wrong, headcanons are perfectly fine (lord knows I have a fuck ton), but some of the crowferi content I've seen completley misses the mark? Granted most of the art doing that is older but I still see it circulated on pinterest a lot (maybe twitter too but I'm not active on there).
So these aformentioned pieces turn Ferid into an uwu soft boy who's daddy issues make him break down and sob at the mention of Rigr and Crowley into an chad alpha 𝖎 𝖜𝖎𝖑𝖑 𝖕𝖗𝖔𝖙𝖊𝖈𝖙 𝖞𝖔𝖚 typa thing (I'm exegareting but you get my point) and it's just... ;-;
Other things idk how to spin into a whole paragraph:
Those aren't a "it's not 100% canon compliant" thing, those are a "he would not fucking say that"(/ref) situation.
As a few have pointed out, Ferid treats Krul better than he ever did Crowley
Ferid never opened up to Crowley beyond a few cryptic remarks, and Crowley never bothered to look into it further. Some people like to pretend they have a deep relationship but that doesn't seem like a deep relationship to me
So, lange Rede kurzer Sinn, the way I see them doesn't make for any romantic relationship, and the toxic aspect isn't even fun (unless you like abuser x abused ig)
Now a reason that actually isn't why I dislike it:
The most common critisism about the ship is that it's technically incest. While I hate incest, ons is hilariously vague when it comes to vampire genetics and the word 'family' is used so often it could be turned into a lethal drinking game.
Like, as humans, Ferid and Crowley aren't related in the slightest and vampire family dynamics are so whack we can dissmiss them calling eachother 'brothers' as banter. If we take the whole incest argument to it's logical extreme, you could say that fucking Mikayuu qualifies as incest because they are adoptive siblings and regularly call eachother family.
This doesn't have anything to do with the ask, I just wanted an excuse to say it lol

As a black viewer (in response to the other anon) , I have to say that the lack of understanding in (seemingly sparse) conversations surrounding the importance of race and blackness/anti blackness is extremely frustrating in the fandom. Blogs on here who are so tied to/fans of the book never seem to want to have these conversations. They are so hung up on the book the book the book and the facts of the book and ignore that this show isn’t directly pulling from the book. It’s inspired by, with the same storylines just told differently, with the same characters played by an array of actors. People on twitter (most of them because i have seen a few people bring of this up and get blacklisted by fandom) never want to talk about this. A lot of journalists as well. I wish the podcasts were still a thing because the host, a black woman, discussed race in relation to the story and how it impacts Louis/Claudia. Instead we got - in addition to articles/etc- interviews with mostly or all white fans on YouTube with the cast. No shade to them because they seem fine but to can a podcast that discussed important topics like antiblackness/racism, being black in that time period to instead give space for these fans to ask the cast questions that never cut into the meat of it all or dive into those topics whatsoever is… a choice. An insulting and disappointing choice. About the depiction of that in the show especially season two, it did make me uncomfortable. It was hard to stomach. Without the intent to normalize the storytelling choices at all, I can’t say I’m surprised they decided to depict that the way they did. The showrunner is white and who knows how many of the writers are as well or simply not black so there’s a very serious lack of understanding the impact this has on a black audience. Claudia was always going to die in the show no matter what because the writer for the book series this was based on had a daughter who was the inspiration for creating claudia who died young. Having said that, it could have been handled differently in the show knowing that they’re in Europe in the 1900s with two black characters. Rollin (the showrunner) casted a black actor to play one of his main characters so he was already aware that Louis would be treated differently than say if he was a white Louis. Thus, he was already aware of how Louis would be treated if/when Louis went to Europe because he and Claudia are black. He plans out storylines and I wish that could have been handled with more care and less triggering. I am aware that if Louis and Claudia freely traveled around Europe during war times and racism with no one - not a single vampire or human trying to attack or bother them- that there would be fans saying well you are just brushing over the reality of how Louis and Claudia would be treated. And yeah they would have. So all of this to say I understand where that anon is coming from.
Can I say that it bothers me to no end that - although I can grasp why- the consequences of some people’s actions specifically Armand - are not treated with the weight as it should. I do not know how this will be dealt with next season, but it has been said (about this story/characters) that since vampires live to eternity/for centuries, they learn to forgive heinous and the most traumatizing of situations for the sake of moving forward and healing. You can choose to forgive if you want if it serves you in healing because that is a person (or vampire’s) right but Armand killed and orchestrated the death of two peoples daughter. I don’t want to see two or even three seasons from now Armand becoming ‘buddies’ with Louis or Lestat. The writer of these characters said that if Louis and Lestat did have an actual wedding, Armand would be there and have a role in it ? Why would the man who killed their daughter have a role in their wedding? I don’t want to see something like that in the show. Fans excuse it because these are vampires with a non human experience but we are humans watching and will find it hard to forget something like that. If this was real life, a person or duo would not think twice about cutting someone off who killed their daughter. I will say to Louis staying with Armand after Claudia’s death, he doesn’t know that Armand planned and did that. He thinks it was all or mostly Lestat’s fault, which it wasn’t. Lestat we will learn was weak from Armand holding him captive so he couldn’t save Claudia- going back to the reality that Claudia was never going to be saved because the writer/creator of the book series had her die because she was inspired by her daughter’s death. Despite knowing that, it was troubling seeing these events unfold as they did nonetheless. All of this to say, I am aware that life for Louis and Claudia was never going to be rainbows and sunshine everyday with no racism or hardships. If the show attempted to portray their lives that way, it would be problematic. So I understand that Louis and Claudia will be faced with racism and hard times, but it’s how the portrayal unfolds. As for Lestat’s treatment of them, I’m glad there’s some semblance of remorse and apology that we never get from Armand ever. This is NOT me excusing Lestat’s actions whatsoever just to say that is the bare minimum lol especially for a white character because we know if he was lacking remorse and didn’t care, it wouldn’t go over well. At least we might see his consequences from his actions next season since it appears to be half focused on him and the rest still on Louis. There are limited number of episodes in a season so I am aware that there is only so much ground that can be covered in terms of consequences and fallout from these events. It is difficult having a lack of a black persons perspective in the making of the show because even if Claudia was always going to die and Louis was going to interpret the events wrong to end up with her killer, there is a way that could’ve been handled that didn’t cause as much triggering and distaste for black viewers
(context)
(posting this as it is for a fan vent)
Part 2 also:
"Black anon here who sent an agreeing response to the other ask talking about their reaction to the lynching/racism- the book purists willingly ignore the reality that this book was written by a white woman who was racist and is now in the hands of a white man who does not understand what it is like to be a black person- black American man specifically - living and existing especially in the time period the first two seasons are set in, the early 1900s to present day or close to present day. The book purists focus more on ‘yes this is the Louis and Lestat (as endgame) show if you don’t like it then don’t watch’ and do not even try to give it the same amount of attention or understanding. They do not want to talk about the lynching and how traumatizing that is. It’s not like the showrunner doesn’t care but it doesn’t seem as if he’s as invested in telling that with as much intent as he is at portraying Lestat as interesting and memorable as this new version separate from Lestat’s of the past in media. Yes he cares about this new version of Louis portrayed by Jacob but to what extent because it feels as if the writing for Louis could have been handled with more care in numerous circumstances/situations. It’s not all bad/in distaste I do see instances where the portrayal of Louis is reflected with nuance and I don’t know if that’s Jacob it could be but he only acts to what he is given on the page. He does understand Louis more- not only as a black person but in terms of things he has discussed before like mental health struggles- I understand that this show is about vampires and complexity and a range of other themes but this can’t be ignored and should be handled with the same weight and intention as Lestat being developed as he has and will be for next season. It must be easier for the showrunner to see Lestat because he is also white, so there is a level of understanding. But Louis who is black in the show- he will never understand that experience of being a black American or a gay black American man at that- and yes he can research or consult with people if he hasn’t already- but I’m noticing discrepancies and that can only do so much when he doesn’t understand/live in that experience himself. This is not to say that Louis is unlikable or uninteresting because I find Louis to be very interesting and I very much enjoy him as a character however what he endures and experience feels like never ending pain. Yes he is guilt ridden and traumatized and depressed but that’s not all he is. Yes, this is his life story entangled with moments that bring out these feelings but I want to see more. I hope to see a shift to something else moving forward next season and beyond since the showrunner intends to do 8-10 seasons allegedly"

Tumblr media
Wild: a promising vampire hunter that was left alone in the wilderness when he was a baby.
A/N: He can date Zelda or Sidon. I don't mind Zelink or SidLink. I love those pairings with all my heart. They can be together if you want. Don't accept Yoona slander in this house

If Sidon is dating Link, Zelda is with Yoona.
About romantic relationship:
He is dating someone. Nobody knows whose he or she is. Well, he is deeply in love with that person.
About his pup:
Firstly, he didn't know why Flora´s cousin chose him as a mentor for a young dhampir.
Wild sees himself in Twilight. He clearly cares about the dhampir like a big brother.
He knows the teenager looks up to him so much.
The vampire hunter uses his own blood to help Twilight with hunger problems without him knowing.
About specific co-worker:
He doesn't like the idea of Time stealing his mentee. Despite knowing those two are related by blood.
Time already got a mentee to care for. He doesn't need another one to his repertoire.

— how does your muse feel about vampires "coming out of the coffin" ? additionally how has it affected your muse ?
with utmost honesty and all due respect , bill hates this development. the push for public notoriety posed an insane risk for him and all other vampires. humans are some of the most unforgiving creatures to live and the fear they harbor makes his existence a struggle. of course he can defend himself , but he doesn't want to have to. he just wants a normal life , and that ideal was much easier to procure when his kind wasn't exposed for who they are.
— what was your muse up to prior to the news ?
trying to find home. which was initially why he came to mystic falls , his origins still remain in bon tempts which he tried to settle in his little home town but something was missing. a little too simple for his tastes. it lacked the feeling of home , with a handful of skeletons lingering in his closet it settled as more of a reminder of the pain he's suffered.
— what goals / aspirations does your muse currently hold ?
bill's goal with mainstreaming is just to live a simple life , a little while in the 1938 - when he left lorena - he'd visited mystic falls on business and something about the scenery and the people seemed to captivate him. this is where he plans to make his home and live a ( hopefully ) peaceful & comfortable life.
— what important canonic alterations have you made for your muse ?
the biggest change as of right now is that bill is a bit of a ripper. this makes him extremely cautious of his relations with humans and witches alike. dear lord , and we will see what happens with fae.
— what are some plotlines you would like to see for your muse ? what connections are on your wishlist for them ?
literally give this man all the drama and angst. thrust him into it. it's none of his business ? make it his business.
i really want him to have a connection with a witch that he is extremely gracious too and holds a good relationship with. perhaps they help him with a daylight ring so he can feel the sun on his skin after years of being ensnared by the darkness of night time. this relationship would be probably pretty wholesome.
vampires that knew bill when he was a reckless orgie having , human killing machine. holding his history over his head and sorta just coming around to annoy the hell out of bill.
someone to suck into the avl drama tbh. mayhaps he's tasked with keeping an eye over mystic falls.
— do you have a playlist you associate with your muse -- please share if you do.
red right hand - nick cave & the bad seeds , blinding faith - knocked loose , bite the hand - boygenius , causality - linkin park , im your man - mitski , black hole - architects , it will come back - hozier , just another day - oingo boingo.
— what is one of your favorite qualities of your muse ? on the other side of things , is there anything about your muse that irks you ?
bill seems simple but he's not. he struggles with his true nature and controlling his urges to the point where it hurts. he hates true blood , he hates animal blood , he wants his meals from the vein. but he forces himself take what he needs. he craves normalcy so much that he aches because of it. he's passionate and compassionate and cares so deeply. but he's not afraid to use force where needed. bill likes to think of himself as a pacifist. his overall good nature is admirable especially with his struggles - on the other hand that can be mind numbing.

Round 3 - Catholic Character Tournament
Tumblr media
Propaganda below ⬇️
Angel
I don’t remember if he was Catholic as a human (he was Irish like a few hundred years ago so probably) but his guilt complex as a vampire is so fucking massive it has to be Catholic lbr
well he's from 1700s ireland so. theres that. he's (for most of the series) the only vampire with a soul and he uses that soul to feel really guilty for everything all the time. he moves to LA and starts saving people from demons to try and atone for everything he did while he was a soulless vampire
he makes exactly one facial expression and its |:<
Kurt Wagner/Nightcrawler Propaganda:
good lord where do i start. in the animated series he converts logan to catholisism and then fucks off basically thats the main thing he did there. i think one time they tried to make him a demon to explain how he looked but everyone hated that. he sold his soul one time to help his friends out after he died. he and logan have a weird little gay thing. he was a priest one time but he was made a priest by a fake bishop from a religion that hates mutants iirc so he just wasnt a priest. like 3 people have written him in a way i like and one of those is my friend just talking about how they view him.
wow marvel loves making catholic characters dress/look like demons
Kurt is a mutant who was born to mystique who looks a LOT like a devil (technically is half one but that cannon truth isn’t real go back to bed), his mother dropped him off a cliff when he was born and he was picked up by a Romani group/circus (fuck old comics man) however he then narrowly escaped being sold to a freak show and found himself in a small German town. There he met a kind priest, who showed him God, and he quickly grew attached to the idea- However, it wasn’t long before people began labeling him a demon and soon the whole town was against him with pitchforks and fire. Cornered and injured, Kurt thought this might be the end for him- maybe he would see heaven so long after finding it- but he was then saved by Charles Xavier who invited him to the X-Men. AND ITS BEEN SO MANY YEARS AND HE HAS BEEN THROUGH SO MUCH THERE. SO MUCH. SO GOD DAMN MUCH. BUT THE MOST AAAA THING TO ME CONCERNING HIS FAITH HE WHEN HE LITERALLY DIED AND WENT TO HEAVEN BUT THEN BECAUSE OF DRAMA WITH HIS FATHER HAD TO BRING HIS FRIENDS IN WITH HIM FROM THE BEYOND. THEN WITH ALOT OF TROUBLE THEY FOUGHT HIS FATHER AND THE ONLY WAY KURT SAW TO STOP HIM WAS IN A MOVE THAT STRIPPED THEM BOTH OF THEIR SOULS AND PUT THEM BACK ON EARTH. SO KURT CANONICALLY HAS NOW LOST HIS ABILITY FOR ETERNAL PEACE, LOST HIS VERY SOUL, TO SAVE PEOPLE- AND ALSO TOLD NO ONE NOT EVEN HIS GAY LOVER WOLVERINE.
Nightcrawler is a mutant vigilante who looks like a classical demon. He can’t even go to church without people panicking and trying to exorcize him. Despite it all, he’s so full of faith and hope and compassion, and he wants to believe the best of everyone. Also, he’s bffs with an extremely angry Jewish sword lesbian. That has nothing to do with anything, but it’s important to me that you all know that.
What if you were a devout christian and literally looked like the devil? He nearly became the pope, which was a plot by some supervillains that also involved faking a rapture? There is nothing like comics I swear to god.
A catholic who is half demon I don’t think I can better explain a struggle than that. But his character is so relatable to people who feel unwelcome with their congregation because of something that is a part of them but still feeling a connection to the faith. Kurt actively engaged in his faith and shares how his faith helps him through all the things he has faced in life and how he found a home with those of the church who leave the judging to God.
so they made kurt a priest briefly before deciding to retcon it, resulting in nightcrawler actually being part of a plan by villains to promote him to pope then reveal to the world that the pope is a demon. wild.
I have a side blog and a tattoo about him and i really really want him to win
Wisecracking devil-appearing devout Catholic with the Best superpower (teleportation)? HECK YES
German Catholic circus acrobat who looks like a demon & can teleport through a hellish alternate dimension with a puff of sulfur. Character of all time.
hes catholic and his dad is the devil. what could be funnier than that. also hes my silly little guy.
Nightcrawler is the world’s most fun catholic priest. I first was introduced to this kindhearted teleporting acrobat while he saved a boat full of stowaway refugees from inter dimensional pirates with swashbuckling gusto!

Day 13: Double feature and rewatch, Blood Relatives and Hellraiser
Tumblr media
This was a fun watch! Definitely on the less spoopy side of things... Honestly, if the Hallmark channel was alright with a series of casual murders, it would fit right on.
Scary: 1 out of 3. Not that kind of movie. Almost, as I noted above, not a horror movie... Aside from the casual murder.
Gross: 1 out of 3. There's a couple of things, as you would expect from a story about vampires, but nothing you wouldn't see on any mainstream show these days.
Disturbing: 1 out of 3. Blood Relatives isn't trying to be disturbing really.
Funny: 2 out of 3. Some great, as Noah would say, schtick in the movie. A couple of lines, a couple of situations. Maybe it's my own inner Dad of a daughter showing, but it's weird how relatable some of the scenes were.
Thoughtful: 2 out of 3. Not thoughtful in the way TV Glows was, by any stretch. But there was a fun world created along the way. I could even see this is a great jumping off concept for a very wholesome game of World of Darkness or the beginning of a Monsterhearts campaign.
Total score: 7 out of 15. If you want a movie that waves a Spooptober flag, but really is just a touching story about family and identity, you might like it.
I also sort of accidentally rewatched the original Hellraiser, so I thought I might as well throw it up here.
Tumblr media
I'm a fan of Clive Barker's writing, or I was a long time ago. I enjoyed his style of building dark fantasy worlds through mysterious exposition sometimes not explained at all, or only between the lines.
The original Hellraiser (ignoring the franchise here to take this movie as it is) illustrates that pretty well, and no wonder since they let him direct and write it.
Scary: 1 out of 3. Granted, I've seen this one a time or two before, so it's not as though I wouldn't see scares coming, but I don't think the movie leans that way regardless.
Gross: 2 out of 3. The body horror, the practical effects, drive home the visceral nature of the 'monster' in Hellraiser. What sights, indeed. Some of the effects are now extremely dated and almost silly. There's a particular creature from... Let's call it Hell that is disturbing and weird, but almost laughable in today's era for some reason. Still, they did a great job on the really important parts.
Disturbing: 2 out of 3. A lot of what disturbs me, and I think it's intended, about Hellraiser isn't the supernatural elements, but the behavior of the characters that are supposedly material people. I find myself thinking "no one would act like that, do that, be motivated by that" in one breath, and then remembering history, distance and near, and then suddering. I'm afraid to think that, ultimately, Pinhead and company really have no hope of competing with humanity's capacity for bullshit.
Funny: 1 out of 3. I don't think I laughed once during the movie. Well, not at the movie. My daughter was the initiator (I just sort of came in and sat down to watch with her) and we had some commentary that amused me.
Thoughtful: 2 out of 3. The world of Hellraiser, and the novella it sprang from are interesting, if not complete and coherent. I would be shocked if the watchers of the original film, back in the day, didn't leave the theater with a few questions about the Cenobites, about the puzzle box, the place they 'connect to', etc. etc. I understand that in other media, a sort of expanded universe, attempts are made to answer these questions and more. I haven't touched those much, because I prefer the mystery, but maybe I'll get around it to next Spooptober.
Total Score: 8 out of 15. Do you enjoy supernatural horror where the 'bad guys' aren't always what you anticipate? Hellraiser is a classic, and if you can get past the dated effects you might enjoy the story and some classic spooky gore.

Has Grian or Scar ever accidentally done a courting ritual on the other/Mumbo? Then try to play it off as nothing as the others are confused on what they did? Because they all don’t know all of each others courting ritual and it would be funny if they did before any of them got together.
Not sure if Mumbo would have some or just not remember if vampires have their own. Would also be funny if Mumbo did know some avian rituals and it just slips his kind before remembering later on.
Oh absolutely. Mumbo doesn't really know Vampire courting but he knows human courting from his time period. He never participated ofc, he was engaged from a young age so he didn't exactly have to go through courting, but yeah.
Gift giving is definitely a courting ritual for Avians (obviously between unrelated adults; relatives can give gifts all day long and it's just your relative giving you something), so every time Mumbo or Scar gave Grian something there was that split moment in his head where he went "Gift? :o" before remembering they're not Avian. (Gives a little more weight to Mr. Moo. Mr. Moo my beloved where have you gone) Of course, the opposite also happens- an Avian giving a feather to their intended partner is an extremely important courting ritual where accepting the feather basically seals the deal, but Scar definitely doesn't know that and has completely accidentally "rejected" it by handing his feather back- even though Grian didn't even actually give it to him and he acquired it by complete accident, there's this instinctive "o-oh" moment before Grian remembers "right I didn't even GIVE it to him if I had he wouldn't be handing it back ofc" so there's that.
As for Scar, courting for Fae- Fae courting is a bit... particular. Fae courting is generally initiated after gaining acceptance/approval from the families and presenting the hairpiece- meaning court with intent to marry. Of course acceptance isn't a requirement unless you happen to be courting a member of the High Court (haha... :) ) in which you have to have the Monarch themself's approval (since marrying a member of the High Court grants you legal/social status as part of the High Court), but having their acceptance is just a LOT easier and more comfortable in the long run. After that there are specific dances shared between courting couples (using couples here bc I can't think of a better word but just know here "couples" include poly relationships, too), specific types of gifts at specific times during the courting (which generally relate to what is worn for an Elven wedding; jewelry, the gowns, you know, given in increasingly important order)- it's a very proper courting ritual for them, not one that Grian and Mumbo are likely to accidentally stumble into but may have actually already have without any of them, even Scar, realizing it-

Canon divergence(s) + a few important details❗️
Tumblr media
⚔️ I have been writing Rozália since 2021 (way before the official Hazbin Hotel came out)
Tumblr media
as the General in charge of the defense-offense against the yearly exterminations with her army since her death in 1849, for 175 years. I have no intentions of changing that in any form. I know canonly such force doesn't exist and this is quite a large difference, but it has been an integral part of her character, of who she is. And yes, she and her army have killed exorcists before, have been doing it since 1849, at first with Hellfire infused weapons & Hellfire itself; then angelic weaponry crept into the always evolving arsenal.
🔥 Her mother made a deal with Lucifer/Charlie or even Satan; she will be able to get pregnant, but the child will serve Hell after his/her death. This is how the Hellfire rooted within her even as a human, and she never had the chance to go to Heaven after death, no matter what she would've done. Rozália is not aware of this even centuries later, still searching for answers, unable to make peace with this, as she never had the freedom to choose whenever she wants this. (Spoiler: she doesn't.) I would love to plot out dynamics related to this with Lucifer, Charlie and Satan muns, if you're open to this idea!
⚔️ She isn't a Sinner, had proved it on numerous occasions (your muse is free to assume she is!), besides crossing Rings without trouble, she can survive wounds deadly even to a Goetia. (Such as a blessed headshot) However the price of this feat is literally a part of her soul, that's what the Hellfire uses to heal her. Once her soul is fully consumed, so will be she too.
🔥 As Wielder of the Hellfire, Commander of the Phoenix Legion, Rozália legally cannot work for Overlords, make or sign a soul contract and forbidden from initiating violence against Overlords after her death toll piled way too high. Same goes for members of the Ars Goetia (unless commanded opposite by a Sin). However she has the Right of Retaliation if an attempt on her or on any members of her legion' life was made.
⚔️ I slightly combined Van Helsing (you know, the movie for bisexuals with Hugh Jackman, Kate Beckinsale & unfairly attractive sassy vampires) lore with Hazbin/Helluva's, meaning: Rozália was a Vatican assassin in her human life under the Viper alias. This serves one of the foundations of her martial art skills, weapon proficiency, fluency in Latin & the ability to bless weapons herself. Which is a rarity to do so, since it clashes violently with the Hellfire. Past Vatican Assassins are also present in the Exorcist army after their death. She is still waiting for her father.
🔥 Rozália...sort of has been taking care of Pride's affairs and not only military ones. Rebuilding, new projects aiming for prosperity, a few unauthorized and very much illegal surprises, settling disputes between civilians, meetings with other legion commanders. Since Lucifer's (canon❗️) great depression, her impact has became even more noticeable.
Those are the extra main ones I felt they deserve a quick mention. Might add to it later. If we are mutuals/would like to write with me, I'd appreciate (but not mandatory) if liked this post as acknowledgment that you like/accept and want to take part in this worldbuilding. I can be extremely flexible (even with who has made the deal with her mother and for what reason, but I have these pillars). If you don't like the concept, doesn't fit into your own views and/or lore; totally alright, no hard feelings.💖

Part 2 of the werewolf AU lore dump because I am cringe but I am free!! This time with a bit more of a focus on lore events and backstory.
TDIM AU werewolf lore part 2
Mark:
-Once had to film on a solar eclipse (In this lore they cause werewolves to turn during the day as if it were a full moon night.) This was back when Charlie and Kate were unaware of Mark being a werewolf or Jamie being a vampire. (This was before Erin.) Fighting against the eclipse only made things worse, and it led to an extremely stressful and painful transformation at a horrible time. In the chaos, Kate was bitten quite badly, and Jamie was forced to reveal herself as she would end up using her strength as well as bat form to deal with Mark. Charlie and Kate were in shock the entire time. Jamie wasn’t great at explaining, Mark even worse, but they got there.
-When Mark first met Kate, he dismissed his feelings towards her, worried that it was just a werewolf/prey thing he was mistaking for love. She was initially the one making advances for this reason, and eventually they did start a relationship.
-Mark hid the fact that he was a werewolf from Kate for a long time, even more so after finding out what happened to Shelby. She would eventually grow suspicious but wouldn’t find out until the solar eclipse. He was also afraid that he would be a danger to her, something that would only worsen after the solar eclipse. He broke up with her partly because of this shame and guilt.
-Before Erin joined and before Kate was turned, for quite a while Mark and Jamie were the only non humans in the crew. They would often help each other conceal their identities around the others. Them usually working together on shots was convenient for this. Of course there was also some mutual banter relating to their differences in traits.
-Charlie took Mark’s reveal as a werewolf surprisingly well. He was shocked for a while and a bit wary of Mark, but eventually adjusted to it, to everyone’s surprise. He was more afraid of Jamie and Kate by that point anyway.
-Small but important: The fact that he was born a werewolf means that at some point puppy werewolf Mark was a thing.
Kate:
-Kate was a complete mess during her first transformation. Things were broken, everyone was panicking. Mark was able to help make things easier on her eventually.
-Her anxiety would often cause her to involuntarily turn. This is one of the reasons she turned to crystals, as they would help calm her down and therefore prevent this.
-Jamie’s usual werewolf/vampire banter she would have had with Mark before was turned up to 100 when it came to Kate.
-Kate, for the longest time, hated the fact that she was a werewolf, due to her dislike of them. This is one of the reasons Jamie can’t stand her. She hates the fact that Kate often seemed to view being non human as a negative thing, while Kate on the other hand couldn’t stand how willing Jamie often was to embrace it. Mark fell somewhere in the middle of these two viewpoints.
-Her rivalry with Jamie also led to Kate having a dislike of vampires. This changed when Erin joined, as Kate quickly warmed up to her.
-Her “curse” ended up saving her from Du’met in the end, and this is what led to her no longer hating it.
That’s it for part 2 ermmm just wanted to post a bit more lore bc I’m a little obsessed with this silly ah au

Happy Storyteller Saturday! This is a free question to talk about any wip, character, story point, worldbuilding bit, etc. that's been in your mind but you haven't had the chance to introduce yet! Please tell me about them :D
I’m gonna take the chance to dual-purpose this answer! @vcaudley wanted to know more about my selkies, and I don’t think I’ve actually gotten a chance to talk about them ever, so here we are! (We’ll actually meet a selkie called Rónan for a brief moment in Into the Storm, but since my writing pace is glacial, we haven’t gotten there yet.)
To start I’ll explain a little bit about selkies in general. In scientific terms, selkies are part of the shapeshifter class of supernatural creatures. This is a very broad class, encompassing a wide variety of creatures. Selkies are rare, and while there are documented selkie populations across the globe, it is extremely uncommon to meet one. They are notoriously rare creatures and prefer to remain with their colonies which are usually composed of both selkies and mundane seals of the same species. Selkies in seal form tend to be slightly larger than their mundane counterparts, and their eyes are described as being ‘too human’ by some.
If you do happen to come across a selkie in human form, it is very easy to tell. For one, selkies in human form have an undeniable air of ‘otherness’ about them. They don’t move like humans, talk like humans, act like humans. Everything they do is almost human, but not quite. Like with some vampires, selkies have a subtle magical aura that draws people to them. It’s faint enough to be almost unnoticeable, leading many who lack a sensitivity to magic to believe selkies capable of enchanting or enthralling people. This isn’t necessarily true. Selkies cannot exert control over this aura. The only exception to this is when a selkie sings. Singing makes the aura stronger, but the selkie still has no ability to direct or shape this aura.
There is a lot of myth and folklore surrounding selkies, as with most supernatural creatures, and very little verifiable fact. Stories of claiming a selkie by stealing their seal-skin have been told with enough frequency and nuance to be reasonably true, though the idea that possessing a selkie’s skin will give the possessor great luck, great wealth, or the ability to become a selkie as well are doubtful. Since so few selkies have ever been recorded living among humans, it is hard to determine whether stories of half-selkie children inheriting their selkie parent’s luck, looks, or ability to turn into a seal are accurate. One can only assume in the case of a half-selkie turning into a seal, they’d need to acquire a seal-skin from somewhere else, since they aren’t born with one of their own.
In parts of the British Isles selkies are said to be of the fairie folk. While the existence of faeries is still debated to this day, there are parts of celtic faerie lore that make sense in relation to selkies. Names seem to be important to selkies, with one’s ‘true name’ being a well-kept secret to all but close family and chosen friends. The ‘otherworldly’ aspects of them could be - and have been - explained as selkies literally belonging to another world and therefore seeming ‘other’ to humans. Selkies are also said to have certain power over water and oceans. But since not even humans can exert magical control over natural phenomena, this is a dubious claim.
And that’s the basics on Shapeshifter selkies! Will I ever learn to write summaries of my magical creatures without turning it into an academic paper or pseudo-wiki article? Who knows! I certainly don’t :P
