I don't support elves especially when they are noldor especially when they are feanor or his sons HOWEVER this is very lovely and aestetically pleasing and I believe that Illuvatar wanted elven and human relationships to be as nice as in this art

for the make an oc ask: Eleanor Tomlinson + Tolkienverse?? -🍂
Thank you so much for this, Alvita!! Also gonna tag my Tolkienverse lovers @xoteajays, @endless-oc-creations, @auxiliarydetective, and @reyofluke-ocs because I think they’d like this. <3 <3
NAME: Odelia Baggins.
LOVE INTEREST: Fíli Durin.
SUMMARY: Having been taken in by her aunt Belladonna and uncle Bungo after her parents had died of a fever that had nearly killed her four-year-old self as well, Odelia has been living as a Baggins of Bag End, along with her dear cousin Bilbo, for as long as she can remember. Though her near-death experience as a toddler had left her weak and often sickly, her aunt and uncle had always taken care of her, and Bilbo, though he was almost a decade older than she, had been content to find quieter ways to play with her when she could not go running around and spend hours playing games - Odelia had grown up loved, even if she did not have her birth parents, and she and Bilbo had spent so much time together as children that even now, fully grown, they were scarcely apart, living together in the same hobbit hole where they had grown up. But there has always been a difference in their personalities - while Bilbo is content to shun his adventurous Took heritage and live the typical quiet, respectable hobbit life, Odelia has always longed to venture away from the Shire and go on some grand quest, despite the fact that her own body limited her from doing many things that were typically done on noble adventures. So when the legendary wizard Gandalf comes to the Shire and convinces Bilbo to join a dwarf party set to reclaim their stolen gold from a dragon, of all things, there is no question in Odelia’s mind that she will follow along with him despite his protests - after all, this is the very thing she has been dreaming about almost her whole life, and she and Bilbo can hardly be separated when they are the truest family either of them has left. And as the journey goes on and Odelia finds herself forging genuine bonds with the other members of the party, particularly a certain nephew of the party’s leader who is just as devoted to his family as she is to hers… well, she can certainly say that this voyage is turning out to be even more than she had dreamed.
OTHER INFO:
Behold! A cinnamon roll!
As stated above, she does have some legitimate physical limitations going into the quest because she’s always been a bit weak and prone to injuries and illness due to almost dying so young, but Gandalf allows her to come along with the party (which Thorin isn’t very happy about at first) because she and Bilbo absolutely will not leave each other, and he does use his magic to help her out in situations where they have to do a lot of climbing or walking (and leaves a charm on her when he fucks off to investigate the necromancer so she can still go long distances without getting too weak).
This absolutely doesn’t mean she’s fragile, though! She’s very quick-witted and resourceful, and Dwalin even teaches her how to use a dagger so she won’t be defenceless if they get attacked, and she winds up being very good with it.
She and Fíli have the cutest relationship ever - they both basically get insta-crushes on each other and remain very blushy and shy around each other for much of the time on the road, which Kíli of course teases his brother relentlessly about.
We’re assuming a happy ending here where everybody lives - and Thorin and Bilbo get together, so he and Odelia stay in Erebor, and Odelia convinces Bilbo to surrender the One Ring to Gandalf so it can be destroyed - and eventually she and Fíli get married and have some very cute half-hobbit-half-dwarf children. Which is great for Odelia, because she’s always wanted to have children of her own and she’s a great mama! So happy endings all around. <3
send me a fandom and a faceclaim/love interest and i’ll make an oc!!

here's a list of shows and series that i feel are really cool and have really cool fandoms but i haven't fully gotten into yet:
my qualification is i felt this exact way for many years about both tolkienverse and dimension20 and here i am an official lotr/bagginshield fancreator and also currently watching Fantasy High season 2 (ASO is my favourite IH campaign so far)
Jojo's Bizarre Adventures - one of my closest friends in college have been talking about this series for years. i trust her tastes with my entire being
The Magnus Archives - someone made a fanart with the audio recording of Jon and Martin saying the whole "it's rotten work" "not to me, not if it's you" and this has been on my radar ever since. i have listened to the first like 20 episodes many moons ago but from what i've read it'll pick up gradually. also i rarely read/watch scary stuff ok
Epic the Musical - one of my all-time favourite artists has done an animatic for one of the songs and "Warrior of the MInd" was on my musical playlist rotation at some point
Revolutionary Girl Utena - the shoujo girlies who consistently tell people that this show is not a romcom and to read the TWs and CWs for this series? so much respect for them. i'd trust them with my ao3 history and that is saying something!!

WIP GAME
(once again I can't see my own reblog so I'm reposting this)
❤️ OooOOOOOooooh Thank you so very much @winds-of-zephyr416 for tagging me!!! <3 ❤️
I'm following your lead and rambling a bit about my writing for once 😍 (which I'm usually too shy for) but UNDER A CUT so you don't have to read it! iI do not expect anyone to express any interest in these but here are my current fanfic WIPs anyways 😏

Now, here comes the rambling:
I also don't have a classical WIP folder. All my writing is handwritten so my whole appartement, every room, bag or book is my WIP folder 😂 Once I find time to work on a story which usually takes me weeks I spend the first 12 or so hours of these searching frantically and with increasing desperation for all the little snippets and notes and slips of paper scattered throughout the chaos that is my life (including my appartment) which usually involves a few tantrums and fits of weeping.
(Writing the story afterwrds is a complete mess itself: imagine hundreds of slips of papers strewn across my table covered with writing pads and coloring pencils. I tend to write and rewrite many parts and have different versions of many, many sentences.)
But of course I have to typewrite them eventually (which involves a lot of more rewriting) so the folders on my writing noteboook ARE sorted into fandoms. (My notebooks may be the only space of my life that isn't COMPLETE pandemonium! 😅😅😅)
God, I'm so chaotic it's a miracle they still allow me to be a teacher... unleashed onto kids... 😌

Valian Years vs. Solar Years in regards to Galadriel's Age:
Valian Years get a little tricky in Tolkienverse sometimes because J.R.R. devised some different methods for telling them. Tolkien Gateway points out the differences between the two, and the inherent problems with one of the published versions we have as well:
In the 1930s and 1940s, Tolkien handled a length of the Valian year fluctuated slightly around a round number of 10 solar years. In the notes to The Annals of Aman, Tolkien stated a single Valian year lasts 1,000 Valian days, defined as the duration of a complete flowering of the Two Trees of Valinor. Each of these Valian days is divided into 12 Valian hours, with each Valian hour having a duration equivalent to 7 solar hours. Thus, a single Valian year would last 84,000 solar hours. As a single solar year is approximately 8,766 hours, it was easy to calculate the equivalence of 9.582 solar years for each Valian year. However, in the 1950s, J.R.R. Tolkien decided to use a much larger measurement, 144 solar years for each Valian year, and included this concept in his Appendices to The Lord of the Rings as the duration of yén, or Elvish "great year". If this new duration were applied to the earlier works, they would extend the time line dramatically: the duration of the Flight of the Noldor, which was 5 Valian Years, went from signifying around 50 solar years to being converted in about 700 solar years. So the new definition should be understood as belonging to a new conception that is completely different from the previous one, and therefore not applicable to the dates noted in previous drafts of Tolkien's writings.
source (x)
If we accept the first draft as true with what he wrote in The Annals of Aman, it would make Galadriel approximately 138 Valian years, or 1,322 solar years old, by the end of the Years of the Trees. This is a sensibly young age for an Elf, as she was still considered young at the time, and works well within the Legendarium. Which makes each Valian year approximately 9.582 solar years. So, 1 Valian year = a little under 10 solar years.
Now, if we apply what he published in Appendix D of The Lord of the Rings decades later from what he originally wrote, Galadriel's age changes massively from a mere 1,322 solar years to 19,872 solar years by the end of the Years of the Trees, meaning she goes into the First Age nearly 20,000 years old. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense, so I also consider the later draft from the 1950s (so time-wise, if not publication-wise) to be a new conception from an unreliable narrator that perhaps was devised by someone who wasn't an Elf.
Its conception of time just does not work well with the dates offered in Tolkien's earlier writings. I can't imagine it took the Elves 700 solar years to cross over to Middle-earth (those would be some lazy travel buddies, I can't even fathom it). 50 solar years just makes a lot more sense.
If Galadriel is then 1,322 by the end of the Years of the Trees, then she is 1,912 by the end of the First Age, which was 590 years long. The rings of power were forged in S.A. 1500, so we can then assume through the show that Galadriel is approximately somewhere around 3,412 years old in The Rings of Power. If we keep following that path of time, Galadriel is approximately 8,372 years old by the time the Fellowship reaches Lothlórien in the Third Age.

What other media do you like/used to enjoy aside from IE, SPOP, Hannibal and german Poets?
Funny you should ask, quite a lot really. I'll tell you just the very things that come to me off the top of my head. First off, I'm surprised but all things considered, probably shouldn't be, that you didn't bring up Durarara!! because it's there alongside the media that made a very big impact on my life. The anime is cool and all but I honestly enjoy the novels a whole lot more, they provide a more nuanced view of the inherent twistedness of every character. They're all so very dear to me. Then we have Camp Here And There, the Homebound comic, Bungo Stray Dogs, Tolkienverse, Ace Attorney, the Picnic At Hanging Rock miniseries (very important too), I would count the Snow prequel novel of The Hunger Games too, the Bartimaeus books by Jonathan Stroud, Pokémon (actually huge comfort game of mine), Monster Hunters, the Riordanverse, Arcane, Nimona, Shaman King, Detective Conan, Naruto, Dance Academy (also very important), Pirates Of The Carribean... I think that's all you'll get for now but I've been reading a lot all throughout life, though probably not what one would recognize, always just what fell into my hands out of a library shelf, I was never quite aware there were books famous by internet standards before relatively recently

Trying to organize my ask notebook better since I've run out of space under general fandom asks and I would like to know what fandoms you are in so I can ask the correct people about the correct fandoms.
I think my main ones are Bagginshield/The Hobbit, Sherlock/Johnlock, Dragon Age Inquisition, {Pippin/Faramir Merry/Eowyn}/The Lord of the Rings and I dip my toes in a few that I currently can't remember but ones I don't engage in canon at all are Good Omens but only for Crowley/Azirapheal ship, Stranger Things but only for Steve/Eddie ship, The Witcher but only for Geralt/Jaskier things and Ladybug and Cat Noir but only for Adrinette .
Also do you like getting asks that are or include story ideas or snippets?
*Asks are sent for fun, no pressure to answer within a certain amount of time or at all.
Heyaaaa!
I’m pretty multifandom tbh - I like a lot of movies and shows and books. I guess my main ones at the moment would be Doctor Who, Buffy, Tolkienverse (Bagginshield is a top pairing for me there, definitely), Good Omens (our ineffables own my whole ass heart), ATLA, Heartstopper, RWRB, Sense8, Black Sails, Bones, Leverage, a little bit of HP (I read a lot of Drarry fic), B99, Johnlock (I was deep in the Sherlock fandom for a long time, it used to be my main one, then fandom drama and s04 killed that pretty hard BUT I still love fic), BBC Merlin, Marvel stuff (more og Avengers, Daredevil, etc not really newer stuff), Rupaul’s Drag Race (I’ve seen all the US seasons, all the Allstars seasons and a solid half of all the international seasons), Jane Austen productions, period dramas in general, anything David Tennant has done, uhhhhh yeah you get the point lol. Going by my A03 bookmarks my top fic pairings are Aziracrow, Merthur, Johnlock, Bagginshield, Drarry, Elliot/Parker/Hardison from Leverage, Matt/Foggy from Daredevil, Stucky, Zutara, Doctor/Rose, Nine/Jack/Rose, Narlie, and Firstprince. I don’t really play video games or computer games or watch anime or kdramas, so those fandoms are not really on my radar.
Thanks for the ask!

🕯️💥🌿 for the fic writer asks! (also i hope your writers block eases up soon! <3)
thank you for the ask (and the good wishes! I'm hoping it eases up very soon -- I signed up for trsb again this year, and I need to clear out some prompts/shorter fics before it's time to get started!)
🕯️was there a fic that was really hard on you to write, or took you to a place you didn't think it would take you?
In general, anything that's firmly in the dark or tragic realm is much harder for me to write than other types of fic, and I gave myself a lot of those over the last year. The Last of All Suns is probably the Tolkienverse fic that exemplifies that the most, although I knew it would be like that going in. The one that surprised me was my Day 8 prompt for Barduil month! I wasn't expecting it to go in that direction at all.
💥find your least kudos'd fic - say something wonderful about it.
My least kudos'd fic is In Spirit, which is a gen fic about Thorin and his siblings during the first winter after the fall of Erebor! I feel like I did a good job capturing the mix of pride and terror Thorin feels at being responsible for his siblings (and eventually for his people as a whole)!
🌿how does creating make you feel?
Amazing, when it's going well! Having a good writing hour can turn around an entire bad day, and writing something that I know I'll enjoy rereading is one of the most fun things for me. When it's not going well, like it hasn't been lately, it's demoralizing. But I'm hoping things will turn around soon!

Beren and Lúthien is Tolkien making The Fairytale(TM) of his universe.
Lúthien kept in a tower and growing her hair? Rapunzel.
The weaving and sleeping spell? Fully Sleeping Beauty.
Also she literally calls herself princess of fairies.
The cats? Incredibly Alice in Wonderland coded.
The whole wolf & bat transformation feels very witchy/ mythology esque.
Also the whole verse-version of the tale was the most "i want Shakespeare and Homer to be proud" i've ever read.
I mean this can't be an original take, cause even though I expected it to be fairytale coded from the rest of the tolkienverse, I did not expect to have the whole story scream "AND HERE'S ANOTHER FAIRYTALE. AND ANOTHER" at me.
#although i've never seen cats i would believe it was inspired by the cats from beren & luthien#the timelines don't add up probably but sshhhh#silveraura's thought corner#tolkien legendarium#tolkienverse#don't get me wrong i quite enjoyed it. especially the verse version

(i very much question both beren/luthien and fëanor's naming creativities lol. but one point for the sons of fëanor bc nerdanel, the one we all know to hold all the brain cells in fëanor's family, had some good variety in her sons' mother names. though i do remember seeing this one post somewhere mentioning how if you think hard enough about it all of those mother names have some euphemism in there)
not to get too speculative on what i meant as a rambly post, but i actually think dior's names are veryyyy interesting and also confusing. "dior" is reasonably taken to mean "successor" while "eluchíl" means "heir of elu". also i want to note that eluchíl isn't really a last/middle name like we'd think of it, it seems more like an epithet i.e. finrod felagund. and finrod got that attached to him later in life, not when he was born. as far as i know we aren't given when dior gets his own epithet, so it's possible that his parents actually aren't the ones who gave him that name.
anyway, so dior is emphasized as a successor (name given at birth or close to birth) and thingol's heir. we don't know when or by whom the name "eluchíl" was given to him - it could have even been after he became king of doriath. i have seen some suggestions that people outside of his kingdom didn't know his name was dior, and just referred to him as "eluchíl". it's an interesting notion that "eluchíl" may be more like... his regnal name, almost.
but my question when it comes to the name "dior" is... successor to what? is it also referencing his position as thingol's heir like "eluchíl" obviously is? if so, that strikes me as odd, because nobody expected thingol to die and dior to take up his position as king of doriath. beren and luthien certainly wouldn't have known. they obviously named their son well before thingol's death, so what gives? furthermore, dior grows up in ossiriand, and the place he lives with his family after marriage, lanthir lamath, is also in ossiriand, which seems to imply that while he doesn't necessarily feel unfamiliar with doriath, he maybe doesn't consider it home per se. so, if "dior" is indeed in reference to succeeding thingol, why is he named with such a strong doriath association, as if there's prior knowledge that he'll become its king after thingol? it's weird.
another possibility regarding his name is that it's not referring to thingol but rather to a number of other alternatives:
it could be his maia heritage, as in luthien begins the sole line of eruhini in the lore that have divine blood, and dior is the successor to that.
another idea is that it's talking about him being part human and part elf. the peredhil are treated as a huge deal in-universe -- the choice of the peredhil being an actual established thing in canon which required the valar's active discussion, not to mention it being a key plot point in aragorn and arwen's story; plus eärendil, a peredhel, having a whole prophecy about him centuries and centuries before his birth. a number of the most influential people throughout the tolkienverse's entire history have been peredhil, and the vast majority of them are dior's own descendants. given all this narrative weight, i think the idea of a child between an elf and human is meant to be considered as very strange in-universe, enough to warrant all this hype around it. so dior being emphatically named successor could be him being a successor of elves and men, and a stressing of how that position will be passed down to his own descendants, whom he will also be succeeded by. (an aside, but i feel like dior's maia heritage is given surprisingly little weight compared to him being part human, part elf. he's distinguished as the first of the peredhil, meaning the first of the half-human/half-elf beings. him being a literal minor god's grandson isn't mentioned anywhere in that.)
one more idea, super sappy but not something i'd put past beren and luthien considering how tooth-rottingly sappy they are about each other, is that he's just their successor. they went through gaston celegorm and curufin twice, satan's lieutenant, satan himself, carcharoth, and then death to get where they are. and their son came from all that love, courage, and unhinged "i am prepared to break every single rule in the universe for you" energy.
i feel like all these possibilities make more sense, at least in-universe, than dior being named dior for thingol. because, again... how the hell would beren and luthien know??? how would anyone know?
also regarding eluchíl, if dior did get the name at birth or at least before thingol's death, then... why??? "dior" at least doesn't specify what he's succeeding, but eluchíl explicitly does say he's thingol's heir. beren and luthien giving him that name when he was born makes very little sense to me. i've toyed with the idea that melian is the one who named him that instead, but that implies that she might have known thingol's death was close to unavoidable at that point, which doesn't seem very likely.
otoh, one explanation i have seen for dior being named "eluchíl" before thingol's death that i really like is that it was thingol himself who did so - not because he thought dior would ever actually succeed him as king, but because it came from a place of sentiment for his grandson. maybe it was also a way for him to publicly approve of beren and luthien's marriage, and a gesture of reconciliation with beren. i do think thingol and beren ended with a decent enough relationship; their whole ["the silmaril is in my hand!" / "show it to me!" / *beren holds up his wrist stump*] exchange is stated to soften thingol's mood, after which, realizing how much beren does really love his daughter, he accepts them getting married; beren jumps to thingol's defense against carcharoth which is why he's mortally wounded; and then thingol literally ignores huan and carcharoth's super epic showstopping spectacular never the same totally unique battle to the death happening right in front of him because he's too busy kneeling next to beren in concern. they probably had some level of getting along for luthien's sake, but i definitely don't think thingol continued to disdain and look down on beren.
so errrr anyway. that's my pitch for why those two names of dior's are extremely confusing and raises a lot of questions and theories for me. (i find his other ones, just, like, funny. "ausir" means "the wealthy", "aranel" means "elf king", and then he's also known as "the fair." he's rich, he's got status, and he's hot.)
‘I am the first of the Peredhil (Half-elven), but I am also the heir of King Elwë, the Eluchíl.’
--
"Then," said Curufin, "must the Nauglafring unbroken be given to the sons of Fëanor," and Dior waxed wroth, bidding him be gone, nor dare to claim what his sire Beren the Onehanded won with his hand from the [?jaws] of Melko -- ”other twain are there in the selfsame place," said he, "an your hearts be bold enow."
GAHHH dior is so iconic i love him so very much. he has these two lines and he ate with both of them
his line about being both half-elven and thingol's heir is very interesting! he's acknowledging that he's very much half-elf, that half of him is in fact not elven. but he's also accepting that he's heir to thingol, who is a full elf who ruled an elven kingdom. that the rule he has inherited is one of heavy elvish association. it's a shame that we don't really ever learn in-depth how he feels about the two different sides of his heritage. how did he ever reconcile them? how did he live with the knowledge that he's the first ever human/elf combination but then he also has divine dna mixed in there?
the other passage of him is one of my favorite things ever btw. "morgoth still has two silmarils, and since you want all the silmarils sooo bad, why don't you walk in there like my father did?" he really called the fëanorians cowards

'I wonder if we shall ever be put into songs or tales. We're in one, of course; but I mean: put into words, you know, told by the fireside, or read out of a great big book with red and black letters, years and years afterwards. And people will say: "Let's hear about Frodo and the Ring!" And they'll say: "Yes, that's one of my favourite stories. Frodo was very brave, wasn't he, dad?" "Yes, my boy, the famousest of the hobbits, and that's saying a lot."'
"It's saying a lot too much," said Frodo, and he laughed, a long clear laugh from his heart. Such a sound had not been heard in this places since Sauron came to Middle-earth. To Sam suddenly it seemed as if all the stones were listening and the tall rocks leaning over them. But Frodo did not heed them; he laughed again. 'Why, Sam,' he said, 'to hear you somehow makes me as merry as if the story was already written. But you've left out one of the chief characters: Samwise the stouthearted. "I want to hear more about Sam, dad. Why didn't they put in more of his talk, dad? That's what I like, it makes me laugh. And Frodo wouldn't have got far without Sam, would he, dad?"'
'Now, Mr. Frodo,' said Sam, 'you shouldn't make fun. I was serious.'
'So was I,' said Frodo, 'and so I am.'

WIP folder game!
I don’t actually have a WIP folder, I just have folders for different fandoms I’m in cuz I (mostly) remember which ones are complete or not lmao
But, anyway, here are four of them! I know the rules say “share all of them”, but most of my writing is very self-indulgent and I am anxious about sharing it for the most part, so I’m not gonna do that sadly, apologies ;-;
Also technically I’m not breaking the rules since I don’t actually have WIP folders… loophole exploited
Bg3:
- Elden Gate
- Serene Moments
Tolkien-verse:
- Vamir’s Darkness
- Different (WIP name as well for this one)

Rules: make a new post with the names of all the files in your wip folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. Tag as many people as you have wips. People send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them, then post a little snippet or tell them something about it!
Imma tag… @en-art-crimes @marchwardenofmordor @trash-ainu and @raptorrobot ! (Don’t feel pressured to do this tho, and apologies for the tag)
And, of course, anyone else who wants to join in!
