rewatching s2 and i'm on chapter five rn and i just feel the need to talk about this even if people have already talked about it, literally why would they show mike speaking to will so differently from how he speaks to everyone else (his "will voice"), why would they show mike comforting will in a way he has never comforted anyone before ("you really think so?" "yeah. yeah, i really do." with the softest look in his eyes, a little fond smile and the will voice at its finest), grabbing will's hand like that on full screen if mike was written to not have any feelings for will? and here's another thing, in s2 he grabbed will's hand with zero hesitation and in s4? he couldn't even hug him properly even tho they weren't on bad terms or anything like that. the thing is in s2 mike wasn't even starting to realize his feelings for will and in s4 it has already become clear to him that he views will in a way he doesn't view anyone else, even el, and he's trying to push it away, which ends up with him not being able to hug will AND hesitating before putting his hand on will's shoulder in chapter nine. mike wheeler is in love with will byers, your honor

Oh look, it seems like there's a Republican-led movement to purge voter rolls in the lead-up to the election! It's almost as if your vote matters and they don't want you to vote! Anyway, I whipped up a quick map (based on this) that shows when the voter registration deadline is in each state. There are a few deadlines coming up in the next week or so.

If you live in a state that regularly purges voter rolls for infrequent voters (the orange ones in the first map), or if you moved recently, it's good to check if you're still registered to vote.

Vote.org makes it super easy to check your registration: https://www.vote.org/am-i-registered-to-vote/

Just put in your address and DOB and they'll tell you whether you're registered. (And they give you a quick link to register online if it turns out that you're not! Only the 9 states in white on my map don't have online registration, and for those they provide instructions on how to do it via mail or in person.) If you want an extra verification, find your state's election website and double-check there.

So yeah, give yourself peace of mind -- do a quick check. :)

Several weeks ago one of my coworkers called me over into her cubicle and gave me a very unexpected gift. Her mother passed away recently, and she'd been packing stuff up at her condo to give to relatives and sell, so the home could be sold. The mother was an avid knitter and crocheter, and when my coworker came upon her stash of equipment, she told me, she "immediately thought of me as someone who might get some use out of it."

So, I have inherited a varied collection of knitting needles and crochet hooks, cable needles, sewing needles, and, best of all, now-out-of-print pattern books, mostly for blankets, because that was what this lady loved to make most. Plus, I also have a bunch of gauge swatches she made, pinned to little bits of card covered in perfect schoolteacher handwriting setting out the patterns they were made to test.

And also...

My coworker brought another bag, full of yarn and...knitted blanket squares. Her mother's last started project, before she got too sick to continue. And she asked if there was anything I could do with it.

It turned out, there are twelve completed squares, and I quickly located the pattern book they are from amid those given to me. It's a book of 60 patterns, meant to be put together however the maker wishes into blankets of 20 squares. I figured out which of the numbered patterns were already made, and selected eight more that I thought might go well with them.

So now! I am working on completing! My coworker's mother's last knitting project!

And I really am feeling very good about doing it.
