You know, I think a lot of hate and misunderstanding towards Itachi comes from the fact that he is designed like he is 30 or 20-something by the time of the massacre. Pleople would empathize with him more if he looked like the child he was. In some flashbacks he looks and sounds more like Sasuke's father than his big brother. He is expected to act perfectly and to take the best decisions in all that involved Sasuke, as if he was the responsible grown-up in charge, and not just another child.

Yes, that's also a major reason. The first time he was introduced, he looked like a 16-17 year old to me, and in all the flashbacks he looks more or less the same. I don't relate to the sentiment of anyone hating him for this, though, or thinking he wasn't a child when it's been repeatedly told to us, but I guess usually it's not so for everyone.

I read somewhere that the reason he looks older than he is, is because of Sasuke's perception of him. Kishimoto draws him with more nuance, and he does look like a child in manga.

When, for the first time we see him as a child in Sasuke's flashbacks in manga, he looks like a 12 year old. He's very similar to how Sasuke would look without the marks on his face. Anime messed up giving him an adult voice and the similar appearance. Boruto does a better job at portraying him as a child in appearance and voice.

And, yes! Itachi having to act like an adult could have been explored with his Boruto look and voice too. It would be much more tragic to watch him slowly lose his grip on his sanity when he looked like a baby he's meant to be.

Another reason for the lack of sympathy from a lot of people towards him is that his story is told to us through a series of unreliable narrators. Sasuke, for example, gives us two different versions of Itachi. The evil and the good one. The good one (in the flashbacks before the massacre) shows us he was a good and kind boy. Kishimoto uses Itachi as a plot device to further Sasuke's story. If some information regarding Itachi is important to establish Itachi as a character, but is not relevant to Sasuke's arc, it will not be discussed. Otherwise we'd have gotten some information on the time Sasuke trained under Orochimaru and his own guilt for pushing Sasuke into that path. I'm not saying you have to give us all in real time, but after his death, through Kisame (who'd be a better person to talk about Itachi to Sasuke) we could have gotten some more info on him. But nope.

Obito is also an unreliable narrator. As is Hiruzen. Sasuke tells us about Itachi, his brother. Obito tells us about the tragic figure/martyr Itachi, and Hiruzen tells us the perfect Shinobi Itachi was.

There's very little of real Itachi himself in all this.

Sasuke didn't know everything about his brother. Obito didn't either or it didn't matter to him enough to reveal more details about Itachi to Sasuke. Hiruzen also had his own guilt and lack of information on Itachi, therefore he only tells us what he knows and considers right about him.

Everyone is telling us about their version of Itachi that they know is right. Itachi is probably the only character whose story is told us like that. For other characters the narrators are very much reliable. Madara's story, for example, is told through Itachi, Obito, and Hashirama. And Hashirama is the most reliable narrator, so we can ignore what Itachi and Obito said about him. It isn't the case with Itachi. In his case we have to draw the conclusions based on all the information we've received from other people.

I don't agree with people who say he's inherently cruel or evil. (I wrote about it here) Unlike many others, if given a slightly better option he would have made better choice. Who else in the Narutoverse had to make the hard choices that Itachi did and he stood by them? People can stay mad with countless 'he could have/should have done this differently' but they're speaking from an outsider's POV who has the luxury of not having been through the trauma the character they're criticizing did. Everything they hate him for can be countered using manga penals. I know this is the bird-eye view of things, but these penals are self-explanatory.

Itachi is one character who did everything wrong, but with proper context that 'everything wrong' can be explained, understood, and to some extent, even justified. If people are going to remove, twist, distort, deny, or downright ignore that context to continue their hate, then I have a very bad news for them. More on this here.

It's why I tend to disagree with most of the discourse on Itachi. People dropping the context depending on their convenience to talk shit about him. And I applaud Kishimoto for creating Itachi. Imagine creating a minor character in a 700-chapter long manga and people being mad about his fanbase. He's a very popular character and some folks like to feel intellectually and morally superior for hating on popular things. They also like to think they're different and hence very special.

Min is in a state of constant near-panic for days after he and Q send a letter with Q's necklace and a ransom note to Kachaa. The note contains three conditions "for Q's continued safety": first, that Kachaa not involve the police or media; second, that he withdraw from the case; third, that he pay a ransom of one million baht (which Min had protested but Q insisted was necessary to make it look real). A week goes by and there's no reaction whatsoever. Min is relieved, but Q is despondent. Min tries to cheer him up, first suggesting he (Min) could call Kachaa and threaten him, then, when Q brushes that off, that Q glove up and go hit a punching bag for a bit. Q takes the gloves Min offers, but punches Min in the arm instead. Min goes along with it and plays up the damage when he realises Q seems happier. (He also thinks his clothes look more expensive when they're on Q, but that's neither here nor there). Men watches them and thinks he's never seen Min act like this around anyone else before – Min hovered around Men for days after they got back from meeting with James, to the extent that he wouldn't even let Q drink by himself. Men is convinced Min is either already in love or about to fall.

Min, Men, and Q go to the hospital for Men's final check-up. Everything's fine. Min is so relieved he cries. He then makes to leave for work "at the restaurant". When Men asks him whether he'll be doing any stuntwork again because Men loves to watch his films, Min deflects.

Q watches Min and Men interact and is half impressed, half wistful about how they're each other's whole world. He envies them: he's sure that in a time of need, Men wouldn't even think to call for anyone but Min; Q himself remembers just too well that he called for "anyone at all". He offers to look after Men while Min is at work, but Min laughs him off. Khanomjeen arrives and says she'll look after Men. Q is annoyed; he feels Min treats him like a child and he hates it.

Khanomjeen wants to watch one of Min's shows. Men isn't enthused, which strikes Q as curious as Men just told Min he loved his work. They settle down to watch anyway. Q is sceptical how they even know it's Min -- it's a motorcycle stunt, the rider is wearing a helmet with face shield. Khanomjeen gives him a rundown of how she can tell. Men is disgruntled. Q realises he hasn't actually paid much attention to Min's appearance before.

When Khanomjeen goes to make popcorn, Q asks Men what his problem is. When Men sulks that Khanomjeen never pays attention to him the way she does to Min, Q asks whether he likes Khanomjeen. Men denies it, but blushes scarlet. Q presses on: has he ever even tried to hit on her? Men deflects: how would he even do that? she likes Min so much, the only thing Men might measure up on is that they look similar because they're related. Q has a think and an idea: if Khanomjeen thinks Min looks cool on a motorcycle, maybe …

He makes Men nab one of Min's jackets and his helmet and takes Khanomjeen and Men to a quiet sideroad and he and Khanomjeen proceed to teach Men how to ride Khanomjeen's motorcycle. Men is excited, Khanomjeen is unenthused and worried they'll get in trouble with Min. Q waves her off: they're not doing anything bad or wrong.

Q proceeds to teach Men how to ride the bike. They go about it very slowly and carefully to make sure Men doesn't hurt himself. Once Men has gained some confidence, Q asks to ride on the back for a bit "so Men can get used to that", and once that works, he asks Jeen to take his spot "so he can take a clip of Men on the bike with someone in the back to show Min". Khanomjeen agrees on the condition that they go home once he's taken the video.

It starts to rain heavily as soon as they're done with the clip. The three of them run under a bridge and wait there, but after an hour, it's clear it's not going to stop soon. Q volunteers to run and get rain ponchos, leaving Khanomjeen and Men by themselves. Men asks Khanomjeen whether she thought he looked cool on the bike. She says sure, he presses on: as cool as Min, or not quite yet? Khanomjeen looks at him and they have a bit of a moment. She then tells Men "no", but something has clearly changed, and Men also realises. Q, who ran back with raincoats but realised they were having a moment, hangs back to give them a little time to themselves.

When they get back to the house, Min is there and pissed. Where did they go? Q tries to placate him but Min just gets more upset: doesn't Q know Men is sick, what did he think, taking him out to do something dangerous, and in the rain as well! What if something had happened! Khanomjeen tries to mediate and Min rounds on her, which in turn makes Men mad. He accuses Min of wanting Men locked up in the house forever and not seeing Men as a person, then stomps upstairs to his room. Q argues with Min, Min tells him Q can only argue like that because he never cared for anyone in his life.

Once Min has calmed down, he goes to talk to Men, but gets no answer through the door. Then, there's a thud like a body hitting the floor. Min panics and breaks down the door. He finds Men collapsed, feverish and barely conscious. His frantic tone alerts Q, who comes upstairs and goes numb at the sight that greets him. Min tells him to call an ambulance.

At the hospital, Q tries to apologise to Min – he really does feel bad about what happened, and feels responsible, too. Min tells him to leave him the fuck alone, which really gets to Q.

Men regains consciousness. Khanomjeen, who joined them, and Min go into the room, but Q hovers outside, unsure of his welcome. The doctor explains Men just caught a cold and his heart is perfectly fine, it's just that he's still weakened overall, which is why he caught a fever. Min relaxes. Men, still a little fuzzy around the edges, also tells Min he's fine. Min apologises to Men and Khanomjeen. Men tells Min he had a really good day and was really happy today, and that he'd've been fine if not for the rain, and Min doesn't argue. The room feels more relaxed. Khanomjeen is eager to corroborate Men's account and shows Min the clip of her and Men on the motorcycle. Min can tell that Men looks incredibly happy. Towards the end of the clip, Q turned the camera on himself and addresses Min: "I wanted to show you how much cooler than you your brother is"

Men stresses how Q was the one who made a day that made him that happy possible, and tells Min to apologise to Q as well. Min brushes him off -- they're both adults, these things don't need saying --, but Men can tell he's affected.

Q is quiet the entire ride home, staring out the window and not talking. Min telling him to leave him the fuck alone still echoes in his ear. When they get home, he goes upstairs immediately. Min feels odd; he feels like it'd've been easier if Q got mad at him. Men walks up and slaps Min's shoulder: weren't they both adults and these things didn't need saying? before he, too, goes upstairs to his room.

When Min gets to his own room, the bedside lamp is the only light on. Q is lying on the edge of the bed. Min walks up to him and tells him he saw the clip and that Men really did look happy. Q doesn't react. When Min looks more closely, he can tell that Q is red in the face, not looking so good, and radiating heat. Min instantly goes into caregiver mode and makes to go get Q medicine, but Q tugs at his arm and stops him. Min is startled to see Q is on the verge of tears. Q tries to apologise to Min. He looks miserable. Min tells him he's not angry anymore. Q asks after Men, and Min tells him Men's fine and Q should worry about himself, first. He gently plucks Q's hand off his arm and puts it down on the bed next to Q, but doesn't let go yet, stroking the back of Q's hand with his thumb. He tells Q again that he's no longer angry and goes to get medicine, a flannel, and water.

Min doesn't believe him, Q insists and tells him Men's well aware that Min does what he does for Men's sake, and that Q thinks Min's a great older brother. Min tears up. Q tells him he really has no chill when it comes to Men.

Min tells him he has no-one else -- he's cared for Men since he was seventeen years old (and Men was eleven), he didn't even know how to cook rice at first and could only act on guesswork and instinct, always within the framework of "will this be good for Men". Telling Q this is kind of cathartic for Min -- he's never had anyone care, nobody ever asked, but Q asked, and listens, and Min is suddenly confronted with just how lonely he was and how hard this has been. He tells Q he is really afraid he'll ruin Men's life, that he's doing the wrong thing. Q tells him, feverishly but quite seriously, that he feels like if he had anyone who loved him the way Min loves Men, he'd never want for anything else. Min thinks about it and feels his face heat. Q misreads the flush, tells Min to take some medicine, too, and moves to feel Min's forehead. Min tells him to stop talking and go to sleep. Q's eyes are at a height with Min's neck, and he spots the mole Khanomjeen listed when she was talking about how she could tell it was Min in the movie earlier. He falls asleep smiling.

There's not a lot of space on the bed with the way Q is lying, so Min ends up apologising and kind of wrapping himself around Q in order not to fall off, and Q, whether consciously or not, rests his head against Min's chest and hugs him back. Min kind of freezes and doesn't dare move at first, but in the end he moves his free arm to pet Q's hair. He's a mess of feelings he's not quite ready to confront, but he wishes he could hold Q and be held by him like this every night.

The next morning, Min gets up early to make khaao dtom. He's filling a bowl in the kitchen while Men is in the living room, watching TV, when Khanomjeen comes by and is surprised Min isn't at work. Min says he has sick kids at home and asked for the day off. Before she can say anything, Q comes downstairs, still wearing the Min's Golden-Retriever-in-Wolf-hat shirt, and asks what smells so good. He's still a little loopy with fever and rumpled from sleep and looks very cute as he goes to stand next to Min and peer into the pot. Min involuntarily grins, smoothes Q's hair down and tells him to have food and medicine. His tone is so gentle it borders on sweet. Q is loopy and doesn't notice, and neither does Min himself, but Men and Jeen sure do. Men also notices that Q is wearing the shirt he gifted Min and comments on how Min wouldn't let anyone else wear that before. Min blusters and tries to deflect that he doesn't have a lot of warm shirts. Men pretends to accept that answer -- he doesn't really want to tease Min when Min looks like he's about to scoop Q up and carry him where he needs to go. Khanomjeen asks whether that means they're all gonna stay in together that day, and when Min confirms, she and Men call a movie night ("'night' my ass" is Q's comment on that with a look out the window).

Men and Min go gather blankets, pillows, and stuffed toys for the sofa while Khanomjeen and Q prepare snacks and soft drinks. Khanomjeen asks whether he and Min are good now, Q says yes. Khanomjeen then tells Q not to worry too much about it because Min is a person who worries too much about the people he loves, to the point where he sometimes overdoes it, but he doesn't mean to hurt anyone … so she'd kind of like Min to get mad at her in that over-the-top way, because she'd like to know what it's like to be loved by him.

Q deflects teasingly: what about Men?

Khanomjeen seems to lose her composure a little and only says they'll see, but she blushes as she tells him we'll see.

When they're watching the movie, Min unconsciously stretches out his arm to lie on the sofa behind Q, who's hugging the stuffed toy dog, almost like he's putting his arm around his shoulders, and Q leans into it with an air of familiarity. On the screen, Min appears, and Min remembers a gun is about to go off, so he quickly covers Q's ears. When the scene is past, he tells them there won't be any more shots fired in the movie, very matter-of-factly, like looking after others like this was the most normal thing in the world. Q remembers what Khanomjeen said and thinks to himself that she's right -- Min kind of reminds him of a huge dog who loves his owners. He can't keep that to himself, so he teases Min: "You're the actual golden retriever dressed as a wolf here … good boy."

His intention is to tease, but Min just feels praised because Q looks pretty happy about it.

The tags and search function on Tumblr are very similar, but ultimately very different. Let's use the Avs lb as an example here, because I'm in there a lot. (I also went and changed my dashboard theme so my screenshots wouldn't be annoying. I did that for you. My sacrifices are akin to Jesus. In a way. If you think about it.)

So you want to look at the blorboposting during a hockey game and you go into the Tumblr search bar. You'll notice right off the bat that #avs lb and avs lb are two different things.

Tumblr search is just a wide sweap of the entire website grabbing key words, which is why you will see sometimes completely unrelated posts in searches.

This is what the tag looks like, pretty noticably different. Only things that have been tagged #avs lb are going to show up once you clicked this tag or put the hashtag into the search, in which case it will still look like this. This is a really good way to filter out unwanted post. Especially posts that might accidentally upset you! I only go directly into the tag because I'm a sensitive little bitch.

People might say "burn the avs franchise to the ground" while watching a game and they'll tag it with their respective liveblog like. Oilers lb or whatever I have no idea what your guy's tag is. Tumblr search function doing its thing where it just grabs any post that has the words "avs" and "lb" in the post, even if they're not consecutive, will then put that into the search feed of anyone looking for avs lb.

This isn't anyone's fault, no one wants to see posts hating on their team but that also isn't an excuse to send nasty messages to our hypothetical op here, who probably was just trying to make a silly post. And I have seen people get sent nasty anons for what is an honest misunderstanding of tumblrs search function. So what are the solutions?

You can censor the team names of any team you're not posting about, which is the polite thing to do. A period, slash, or asterisk will break up the key word and keep it from being swept up in Tumblr's search. You can also use the state/province or the city in place of the team, like Edmonton instead of Oilers or Colorado instead of Avs.

But, not everyone is going to do that either because they just don't want to or because they don't think about it. I personally think censoring team names looks silly and I don't like doing it, which is why I will default to using the state or city name in any post where I'm being a disgusting little hater. But some people aren't going to do that either! So what do you do then?

You've got three options, first make sure you've clicked into the tag to automatically filter out any post not tagged. Second, block the liveblog for every team but your own. Kind of a scorched earth method, but it works! Third, block anyone you see being a hater on your team!

Ultimately you can't except strangers to curate your online expirence for you, even when them taking a small step would be the polite thing to do. So, use the features you do have, like the block button! Block people baby!! It's beautiful and I love doing it. Also make sure you're in the tag and not the search if you really really don't want to see any of those kind of posts.

Sorry for the ask, but I'd like to straight up ask someone.

So I may be misunderstanding, but proshipping is just saying, "do what you want in fiction," no? Why is this controversial? I completely understand having squicks and blocking people over that, but threatening lives over this seems way over the line. I hate feet fetish content, but I can just... filter that out and not bother enjoyers. I get a lot of content is not so easy on the brain, but is it not better for people to throw those thoughts on a page? Personally would rather people vent it out through fictional means than be eaten by those thoughts.

Am I missing something or is this another case of people creating a wildfire over simple concepts?

There's a lot of reasons why antis think the way they do. Most basically is that humans instinctively assign morality to the feeling of disgust. "If I'm disgusted by this thing it must be bad." Basically everything else after that is justification for this thought process.

Some common justifications for the mindset:

Children can be exposed to this content.

Adult groomers could use the content as material to further bond and groom their child victims.

Anyone that regularly consumes perverse fictional content may become desensitized to the disgust all humans should feel towards it and therefore will eventually try to act out these fantasies in real life.

Sexual arousal has a unique ability to corrupt people in this way and it's not the same as playing a violent videogame or listening to true crime podcasts.

Of course, examining these points objectively leads us to the following conclusions:

Children can be exposed to any graphic content, regardless of the "morality" of said content. It happens all the time and has been happening since graphic content was first depicted. Kids get curious, especially about things we try to keep them away from.

Abusers can and will use anything to bond with their victims. Maybe it is a adult/child ship or noncon fantasy. Maybe it's My Little Pony or Steven Universe or comic books. Maybe it's Game of Thrones or Steven King. It can be anything the victim cares about. Contentious material is not uniquely effective in this manner.

Disgust should not be what guides one's moral compass regardless. While there may be people that eventually become abusers that start out with fictional material, the order of operations is "I want to abuse kids. -> I will read/watch/look at fictional content until I get access or opportunity to exploit kids -> I now have the opportunity to abuse victims" rather than "I'm interested in exploring dark material, perhaps including fictional abuse of underage individuals -> I can now no longer control myself around kids and I'm a ticking timebomb."

This is literally just Puritanical Christian beliefs and isn't true.

Since I'd been talking a lot about JP Vesperia (primarily Yuri and Flynn and the heavy changes that surround them, and because I'm highly passionate about them in their original context), I wanted to compile some more jarring if not outright glaring mistakes in the localization (or what were likely intentional changes, because I can't look at some of these and just call them "mistakes"). I'm not going to mention every little change throughout the game, so smaller things I'll mostly be leaving out (namely things that don't really affect characters or context). I primarily just wanted to give some insight on some of the bigger parts.

Some of the changes seem to have been mistakes in translation itself (not just localization, but misunderstanding what was being said in general; such as, there's an instance I mention of that between Patty and Don), so I've got some mentions hanging around for clarity purposes as some scenes didn't make much sense, likely because of this.

Vocal tone with Yuri was the most prominent issue that got me making this, and the context that was changed being right after if not equally next to that (most often also with Yuri but also Flynn).

This is something that has been bothering me for a while and I've been wanting to share this stuff with people interested in seeing the game with its original context. Generally speaking, the plot and story themselves are on point. The majority of the differences surround Yuri and Flynn respectively, so there's going to be a lot of mention of them throughout.

I've also posted video clips of my favorite scenes and the heavy changes, so consider those a supplement to this and vice versa.

Note because people have vagueposted about me since making these: Do not start "dub versus sub hurr hurr" arguments with me or imply that's what I'm doing with these. Firstly, Japanese is a language, not your English subtitles. Secondly, these posts are not in main tags and I am not bothering anyone by making posts of my feelings on my own blog related to these facts. If you have time to vaguepost and whine about my untagged opinions after hatereading (or not even reading it at all and making stupid assumptions), you have time to be nice to people and find something fun to do. Lastly, I've said many times that the entire loc/dub in this game is not bad. There are specific things I take issue with. It does not mean I'm anti dub and hate all dubs. It does not mean I go out of my way to find dub fans and start shit with them.

Update: Went back through to correct the way I used "dub" and "localization" interchangeably. I don't do that anymore bc "dub" obviously refers to the dubbing of foreign media, and dubbing is a part of the localization process. Lines themselves are not the dubbing, and the dubbing is the vocals. Thus, I edited cases where I really didn't think about that while writing these and changed mistaken "dub" mentions as needed.

I'd like to preface this by mentioning the chief director and producer of the game itself has also spoken about localization inaccuracy issues, so that's something to keep in mind (it's in Japanese, but you should be able to use the offered post translator).

I'd also like to preface this by mentioning that in the original, Yuri is more playful and relaxed/casual (generally but including with Flynn, which the dub pretty much entirely changed until arc 3), but also gentler and softer. He has a very large variety of tonal behaviors/tonal "moods" that were pretty much nuked from the dub.

Basically, to get a better experience for this Yuri, I can only really recommend playing the game in JP audio. Obviously you won't get the actual context because all you'll have is the loc context, but that's also partly why I'm making these posts - to cover the contextual changes while the video clips cover some of the tonal changes (because lbh I don't expect anyone to actually go watch the entire game in JP with subtitles unless you're as insanely dedicated as I am, and I'm largely doing it out of my love for the original Yuri and Flynn and my disdain for how the localization treated them).

As a heads up, there won't be many skits in here because I'm going through a specific YT playthrough for these screenshots. Specific skits won't always come up in the playthrough in question, and I can't find a whole list of skits in JP anywhere online. I don't have all skits unlocked in my own save either yet (you can unlock all skits with Grade which I have yet to do in the DE), so I can't use that to compare all skits right now.

There are plenty of small changes here and there that I won't be including in these posts because there are some sentence changes that aren't impactful but do exist. I just don't want to be here for a year covering the random changes that don't matter much. I'm also not going to include details of a lot of honorifics because I'd be here all day, but there is one one major instance that I mention later on.

For reference if anything wants to actually watch the game in JP with the subs (it goes until just after Hypionia), most of the references come from here. Since in some cases the subber just reused localized text even when the context wasn't the same, I did bring some of those up in these posts too. These were subbed before the DE version came out. I used screenshots with subs where possible to make it easier to follow along.

I have a lot of passion for JP Yuri and I hope I can pass on some of that passion to others. 🙏

Apologies in advance if some of these sound cranky. If I sound cranky about some specific changes, it's probably because I am.

Since I talked about the whole, Raven being shady and Yuri therefore not being grateful to him incident that the localization for some reason butchered and made Yuri sound like a generally ungrateful or just outright dumb person who doesn't understand gratitude, I'll summarize that one again here:

Yuri has a skit with Estelle originally talking about how he can't find himself being grateful to someone like Raven for showing him how to sneak out of the castle. Basically, Raven is shady and he's not sure he should be grateful to someone like that, and is confused as to why Estelle would be so grateful when she doesn't even know him (because in his mind, he isn't sure he wants to trust a guy with those vibes). The loc just kinda... makes him sound like an ungrateful jerk and not so much because he's not sure he wants to trust Raven. It doesn't really sound like it's an issue of his with Raven specifically but more that he just generally doesn't feel grateful for the aid (and that in general one shouldn't feel grateful for aid like this), which gives off a really wrong impression of him that doesn't hold up throughout the game. Yuri wasn't wholly ungrateful for the gesture itself, but because of who it came from (and I imagine a weird peppy guy in jail is good cause to be skeptical).

We start off we a classic "Yuri, you idiot!" that was changed to "come on already!".

Yuri's response to Estelle mentioning he'd been in the knights doesn't actually give a time frame for how long he'd been there (the loc made up three months, but there was never originally even a time frame given).

Here when Yuri asks Estelle why she can't just leave, her response indicates she actually does know why. The loc made it more ambiguous, which could be easily misinterpreted as she really doesn't know, so I'm dropping this one here.

For some reason the localization seemed to have Estelle responding to Karol directly about the ace always performing their attack last ("I don't think so"). What she was referring to was the tiny monster that walked by, asking for confirmation that that monster was not the eggbear they were looking for (I wasn't gonna fight with the video to get a better screenshot without the annoying YT red bar in the way so the monster is in the corner mid-movement lol). Not sure if that was a genuine mistake, but it was an odd one.

(Also, side note and not putting an image here because it's more general, but Yuri refers to Karol as "Karol-sensei" which was translated in the localization to "Captain Karol". Basically, Yuri calls him "sensei" because that's a teacher/professor, and he's making a play on Karol's knowledge and being their "teacher" about monsters/maps/etc.)

I'd say this is more along the lines of overexaggerating and not overreacting, but this line was literally changed to "haha" in the loc. The whole point wasn't that Yuri just brushed her comment off or found it funny. At this point he still literally thinks she's exaggerating about her lack of knowledge out in the world, her excitement, etc.

Not the only instance you'll find of the loc just changing entire sentences to something meaningless as if they ??? didn't know what it meant (they actually changed Patty saying an entire sentence to "aye"). In some cases they added entire sentences that weren't even there...

Even though I can kind of see where they went with the loc here, the point was supposed to be that Flynn actively thought he would be happy for Yuri to go outside the barrier and see the world.

The loc changed this to Flynn saying that he, in the now, is happy that Yuri is outside the barrier, but then says he got a little less happy when he saw the wanted poster, indicating he was previously happy but got less happy, yet says in that moment that he is happy.

It's a weird case of (past/present) tense usage for the most part, but they also removed the fact that Flynn is literally saying "I thought I would be happy" (thus expressing he'd been wanting Yuri to see the world outside the barrier and would've been happy to find out he did). The reason he's not finding himself happy is because of the wanted poster and the crimes listed on it, following up that his honest happiness for Yuri (ultimately because of the poster) was a lie.

This also means they removed Flynn expressing the honesty of his happiness for a positive concept for Yuri, which, given all the changes toward Flynn in the loc/dub, already now takes away from the fact that he'd been actively hoping for good things for someone and we're left with this more sarcastic take on him being "happy" (his line is more like, "but I lost my sense of genuine happiness when I saw this!").

Obviously his happiness wasn't really a lie because most of the crimes were falsified (primarily the ones that would make him actually mad, because Flynn has had to have been aware this whole time that Yuri has committed small time crimes for the past few years now), but at the time, the focus on this conversation is that Flynn thought he'd be happy at a time that Yuri left the barrier; meaning he'd been hoping for it prior to it happening.

I'm also mentioning it because it's the very first in a whole line of changes the loc/dub made to their relationship (and it's their first in game interaction ffs) and to Flynn himself as he's perceived as a character. The original is much more expressive of how important they are to each other in a lot of various ways.

This was changed to "damn, we if lose our balance...". I know they did it because Yuri had just fallen over, but I'm including this one because the context isn't... really the same thing to me?

This loc change is a bit odd to me. They had him saying something along the lines of "she is a princess after all" in the loc, regarding the council backing her.

The original context is more like, the council is backing her and he's hearing it directly from Ioder and he probably doubts Ioder would lie like that or about that, cementing that yes, she truly is, like he suspected, a princess, but it's almost still a bit odd to know. It's sort of like, he knew/had suspicions but hearing it directly from Ioder just confirms it for certain.

The loc just made it sound like well yeah, it's obvious they'd want to back her, she's a princess... but Ioder is a prince, so that doesn't explain why they're not backing him. She is a princess after all, so of course they'd back her... but what's stopping them from backing the prince?

Another weird one for me. In the loc Yuri says that "even the Commandant was a little in over his head", when he actually... really wasn't? All he did was step in. Things got bad enough that he had to, but he wasn't in over his head. Not sure how or why the loc ended up with that.

An example of the loc having a habit of just adding in random lines that didn't actually exist (and in this case the one added didn't even contextually make sense. This was no thank you from him, this was literally him making Yuri do something for him because he was going to ask Flynn for a favor and ended up with Yuri in the cell instead).

Another super weird one in the loc. They had Yuri saying Flynn was "too" late, implying he hadn't made it in time, but he did. He made it just before the battle started, but the original context only says he's late, not too late (which makes sense given that they were ready to fight but hadn't started yet).

This was changed to Yuri just mentioning there was one way they could get out of there without actually saying what it was, and Judith saying if he thinks it might work what's the harm in trying it out. Not sure why they changed Yuri literally telling her his plan, so... again, a super weird change that I don't get why they didn't just keep the context the way it was.

Third image was changed to "someone get me away from this psycho", which... I also don't get why they put that there unless they just wanted so much flavor text that they wanted to change the whole "they're in a fight and he's telling her not to come over here because he's pissed at her because they're fighting" part of the fake fight they had going on.

Not one I have a huge problem with, but definitely good examples of them going out of their way to change just... perfectly normal stuff that literally has no reason to be changed? Some of it is flavor text and some of it feels over the top for me. Stuff that makes me like... why would you change that when there was no reason to? Could be more of a personal pet peeve of mine, but I just don't like unnecessary changes when there was nothing wrong or odd about the original text and doesn't at all come off odd in English. Unfortunately Vesperia got littered with those.

I didn't feel like getting a whole video for this, but basically Judith gives a little laugh instead of just the more upset/distressed(?) sound she made in the dub. Feels more fitting imo to keep up the "lie" Yuri started for her. The dub makes it seem more like she feels guilty, versus here she's giving a little forced giggle to go along with it. Again, a change I'm not sure why they put in.

Ngl I get completely different vibes from these. The JP comes across more as concern, rather than... treating them like they're some mob on the loose...?

Once again, this gives off negative vibes toward Flynn as a character imo.

Here Judith gives more of a reason for coming with them, which they changed in the loc to "with the circumstances being what they are, this is just how things turned out". Reasonably, she didn't have to stick around after they ran from Dahngrest, but here she gives a quick "reason".

The loc changed this to "I'll bet he is". They were just told he's the current magistrate in Heliord, and all Yuri says here expresses he's letting it sink in and realizing exactly why all this is happening here. It's not a huge story beat or anything that gets changed, but it's an example of changing things that don't need to be changed as if trying to play things up in a way that... doesn't feel necessary to me? In this case the situation is kind of dawning on Yuri as he realizes how bad this situation could be/why it's like it is, but in the loc it comes across as more just unimpressed and "of course he'd do that".

An unfortunate, classic moment of them changing how much Yuri believes in and trusts Flynn. They changed this to "gotta run, Flynn!" and he just... leaves. I'm sorry but in what universe does "leave the rest to you" equal "gotta run"???

This one is one of those cases where the localization text was super awkward and wonky, and worse, they actually voiced it that way (like "we have guild's job to deal with". Yes, they actually voiced it that way too on top of everything else grammatically wonky with the entire conversation that they didn't bother fixing when the DE came out).

Also here, they changed what Yuri says about Cumore and Flynn. "I don't know how I could explain this to Flynn" doesn't, at least to me, carry the same weight as Yuri actually feeling ashamed (in the loc he says "what a shame", but does not express shame, versus him saying "how pathetic" and expressing shame in feeling pathetic) and saying he can't even face Flynn because Cumore got away. The thing is, Yuri does tend to posture, so when he fails at something, it hits him pretty hard.

And let's be honest, this just hits way harder than "he will get what he deserves".

Interestingly, Yuri could also fall into the category of viewing himself as sinful later on, which I talk about in my favorites post and the usage of "crime" and "sin" within the JP context.

Not particularly important, but just another (more mild) case and example of how the loc just randomly changed tone/mood/wording for no reason.

Another case of Yuri being more aggressive in the dub than he actually was. Here, all he says is just a plain statement. In the dub, he has an attitude about it and says it in a tone that's more insulting that Ioder didn't know about Heracles.

This isn't the only case of dub Yuri acting aggressively toward Ioder when he wasn't supposed to be and we'll get to that, but Ioder is another similar case of the dub making Yuri unnecessarily vocally rude (despite that Ioder is very polite toward Yuri).

(I left out the subtitles because all they did was copy the Eng localization, which kinda defeats the point of this post LOL. This will be the case going forward for any same circumstances.)

This one's a more interesting tidbit to me and less of a harmful change (i.e. I find that a lot of if not most changes relative to Flynn do more harm than good when compared with the original context). Basically it's saying "sweet mask and sharp eyes", implying Flynn's sweet face is a mask and saying it contrasts with his sharp eyes. I could get into a whole rant about why I love that in relation to some side material, but even in the game itself, there's the knight Flynn with his sweet, polite side and his real side that only shows when he's around Yuri (basically, who Flynn has to be for his job and who he actually is as a person, which he only gets to be around someone who knows the real him).

I'd guess this got changed in the loc because they weren't sure how to word it, though there's no mention of "heartthrob" here at all and instead actually says "sweet mask" as if, again, to say his sweetness is just a mask. It's actually a very interestingly accurate representation of his character - how he tends to not be himself when he's being "knight Flynn", and how that sweet face is contrasted by the look in his eyes (which they say, you know, eyes are the windows to the soul, so this would imply the sweet face is the mask and the eyes are the real Flynn. And of course, this Flynn is implied to show himself in his sparring with Yuri in Aurnion, where sword fighting is the best way to express himself. This isn't to say Flynn being a nice person in and of itself is a lie, but that his overly polite, respectful, kind knight side is a sweet mask contrasted to the man who loves to fight and has a sharp look in his eyes)

This has less to do with me thinking it's impossible (visually, C!d is almost exactly my Vincent's type when it comes to men, I'm not kidding) than with the way fandom holds it up like it's canon while writing off the fact that C!d is canonically abusive to the woman he's been in a relationship with for who knows how long and canonically marries after Meteorfall. Rejecting such an important part of a character's story arc for shipping purposes while simultaneously relegating the character he harmed to the void of Female Characters Nobody Cares About Who Deserved What Happened To Them has left a bad taste in my mouth for decades, and that isn't gonna change any time soon.

I also used to get a lot of shit for shipping Vincent with Veld "instead," because apparently that's the "wrong" option? I once rejected a request to add this picture to a Va|enwind club gallery on devART and when the mod sent me a note asking why, I explained that it's Veld talking from out of frame, not C!d; the response was something along the lines of "Oh, okay, I didn't know you were fucking delusional." Great experiences, let me tell you.

V - Which character do you relate to most?

Vincent. Definitely. It's complicated and involves me having Body Dysmoprhic Disorder, being brought up in a cult that taught me I was going to spend eternity alone in the dark because of what I am, and the fact that I've been shot once, died a couple times, and been used for medical testing without my consent. I just didn't get any cool monster transformations out of it. (Tragic, really.)

W - A trope which you are virtually certain to hate in any fandom.

Miscommunication and the Idiot Plots it creates. Hate that. Hate hate hate that. I know there are cases where a misunderstanding and a failure to discuss it are in-character, but that's not what I'm talking about. I don't even watch romcoms because this trope pisses me off so much and it's a key element to the genre.

I think the one place I've ever seen this trope used well in fanfiction is skadren's for blood and wine are red, and that's specifically because when Cloud misunderstands, he immediately removes himself from the situation and refuses to communicate with anyone. There aren't a dozen people constantly saying just the wrong thing while never questioning him about anything in order to continue the perpetuation of his assumptions while he just keeps going about his day to day life as if everything is normal and never brings it up. It is not an Idiot Plot, it's Cloud exacerbating his own clinical depression and everyone else trying to get him to stop.

I hate it whenever characters (and fans) see the worst in each other's actions.

BBH was the villain for a lot of people in purgatory. But he was told by Dapper, his son, that he needed to win. To run over anyone in his way. That, added with the fact that the watcher said that there was a cursed team, what was he supposed to think?

He was doing what he thought needed to be done to save his son. To save as many eggs as he possibly could. By all intents and purposes, he was the hero in his own story.

I see this a lot with Sunny, Phil, and Tallulah. Everyone assumes that Phil and Tallulah despise Sunny and that they are just being blatantly and maliciously cruel to her. That's just not the case. It's a series of misunderstandings on Phil's part, the trauma Tallulah has, and the need to belong on Sunny's part. There are many things that they all could've done differently. But none of their actions were malicious.

I see this in the way the fans treated bbh (or anyone who wasn't Bolas) during purgatory. The understanding was that anything goes and the admins tweaked everything as they went along. The only thing he did that was blatantly against the rules(that I know of) was when he was shooting Charlie(I think Charlie) and Jaiden even after the spawn box had been placed. And he almost got killed by a cat in a witch hat for it.

I also see it in the way that Tubbo is immediately talking about killing Forever. He sees the absolute worst in him, I get why, but it should give him pause that everyone around him trusted him with their kids. That Phil, one of the most paranoid people when it comes to the safety of his kids, trusts forever. There is a reason he was elected president. But Tubbo was immediately ready to kill him.

Tubbo has reasons for this. To protect the daughter he just barely got but still loves with all his heart. But he isn't framing it as eliminating a threat. He is framing it as forever just going off the deep end.

Everyone has reasons for doing the things they do. I wish more people would take that into account.

Baghera and Cellbit were brainwashed by the watcher and that's why they're killing everyone.

Etoiles talked with the codes, has heard their side of the story and is understanding.

The Watcher has seen Charlie go after all the eggs, Quakity go after Chayanne and try to kidnap Tallulah, saw Bagi and Cellbit's mess of a relationship, saw parents abandon their kids. To him, the Islanders were sinners who needed to be tested and shown the errors of their ways.

The federation has been making advances in science far quicker then if they went about it ethically. They are literally trying to make the perfect place to live to erase suffering. You got to crack a few eggs to make an omelette after all.

Everyone has their own motivations for doing what they're doing. And in their mind, and told from their side, it makes sense.

I'm sorry for the rant. I'm just sick of everyone assuming the worst of everyone else.

I started binge watching (thanks to Chenford gifs on here) and honestly I am obsessed! The chemistry. I’m currently on season 4, episode 18. I did see some spoilers for season 6 and i really hate that they fought, and I’m missing a lot of context but seems like Tim walked away before he could have said something he regretted which is good imo. I dont know when season 6 will come here in the UK, but I am really hoping they make it through. I’m really hoping we get married and parent Chenford soon!!

Let me start this by saying : WELCOME! I hope you'll enjoy what's coming next ;) The ending of the episode you're currently watching is one of my all-time favorite Chenford scenes. Come to think of it, I might have to rewatch it to prepare myself for the upcoming episode...

I don't want to go into details about the fight as it would clearly enter spoiler territory. I mean, obviously you are already aware of some parts of that storyline. I'm just unsure as to how much you want to know, so better safe than sorry. I will say that, in my opinion, it was a good thing for Tim to walk away in that specific moment. Emotions were running high, they were both hurt and upset… So it was better to walk away before anyone said anything they would come to regret later. The issue is that it's not exactly the first time he has done so once that specific topic was brought up (and I don't want to say more than that just in case). This is becoming a pattern, one that is bound to cause friction and misunderstanding.

I do wish we had seen (or will see - though unlikely) a follow up with Tim checking on Lucy a bit later, making sure that she was alright (or as alright as she could be under the circumstances). She was spiraling all day and leaving her alone with her thoughts was not ideal either (been there, done that).

And I really hope I haven't spoiled too much. I never know where to stop. They are a lot of unsaid things left between Tim and Lucy and I'm glad we are getting to this part of their relationship. I'm looking forward to seeing how they will go from there. And I choose to believe that they will make it through and become stronger for it. Every relationship has its challenges.

It's REALLY STUPID how Everyone always gets "freaked out & mad" at me/Joe Winko (Single Autistic GAY Guy) because I want a Crazy Obsessive Man to be my Lover/Partner 😑

I'm a single Gay Autistic guy in my 20s & This is something I wanted to vent about. It doesn't make me too mad but it always kind of gets on my nerves whenever I post online saying that I want a crazy Obsessive man to become my Lover, EVERYONE always bashes me for it... YEAH, I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT NO NORMAL/SANE PERSON WOULD EVER ASK FOR THIS! BUT WHAT SO MANY PEOPLE FAIL TO UNDERSTAND IS THAT I-MYSELF AM NOT A NORMAL/SANE PERSON MYSELF! & I CLEARLY HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH THAT! It's usually females that will comment & always tell me "You do not want a man to be Obsessed with you Joe! It's dangerous & unhealthy & disastrous!" especially when they see this manifestation note that I wrote (it's supposed to be wrote from the perspective of a crazy man who falls in love with me)... but it makes me wonder, did they even read the note? Because CLEALY if they read the note & know the context, me having a crazy Obsessive man like this WOULD NOT BE BAD AT ALL! The note clearly states that the man writing it, although crazy/Obsessive like I want him to be, is clearly respectful of my sexual limits/desires & even wants to spend tons of time with me (exactly as I want him to) & EVEN WANTS TO TAKE ME ON LONG DRIVES/ROADTRIPS, WHICH IS ABSOLUTELY SOMETHING I AM UP FOR!

Another thing about the people who get upset with me whenever I ask for this, is that they probably think that If I had an Obsessive Lover, he would always want to be with me & always want to spend time with me & I wouldn't have time to hang out with my friends or anything like that, which they are grossly misunderstanding because I myself am actually a total recluse due to my Autism. I also imagine that my Obsessive Lover would also be a recluse as well, so it would work out PERFECTLY! It would just be him & I. Yeah, I have friends I talk to online who watch me on YouTube but it'd just be that... My Obsessive Lover would also want me to keep doing my YouTube videos as well.

To anyone who has been watching me flail and gnash my teeth over the past year as I write a monstrously long fanfic and maybe thought to themselves, ‘Damn, should I watch Lucifer so I know what she’s talking about?’

My answer is, NO! Bestie, I cannot, with a clear conscience, recommend the TV show Lucifer to anyone who knows me here on Tumblr. Now, if you want to learn how to utilize parallels in story telling? Then, absolutely! Lucifer is a MASTERCLASS in utilizing parallels, both visually and narratively. A++

But otherwise, you will have to do your own soul-searching and research to decide if Lucifer is worth your time. Because if I recommend Lucifer to you, then you’re going to start with episode 1 like a normal person and then you’re going to hate me because IT’S GARBAGE!

Oh, but Amber, all pilots are rough. I can just stick with it. — No, you misunderstand me. The pilot is FANTASTIC. It’s HYSTERICAL. But only if you know how the series ends. If this is your first introduction to the characters? It’s awful! I don’t know how anyone ever watched any part of S1 (except maybe the finale because the kidnapped child trope is chef’s kiss) and thought “OMG yes please, more of this”.

And I know what you’re going to say: Parks and Recreation. BUT THIS IS NOT THE SAME THING! You can absolutely skip S1 of Parks and Rec and never, ever go back and watch it, and you would be fine. You wouldn’t miss a goddamn thing.

You absolutely have to watch S1 of Lucifer. This is not a case of ‘oh the writers haven’t figured out these characters yet’. NOPE! This is 100% who these characters are at the start of their journey together. It’s crucial to understanding and appreciating their full character arcs. But it’s the start of their journey together and if they’re not a jackass (Lucifer, Dan) or sex-crazed* (Linda, babe WHAT was that), then they’re boring (Amenadiel and YEAH I’LL SAY IT Chloe^). Yes, Maze is hot, and toothless, 7 year old Trixie can do no wrong (bless that child) — BUT YOU CAN’T STICK WITH A SHOW FOR TWO CHARACTERS WHO ARE BARELY IN IT!+

[* — I don’t want to slut-shame. I am merely too aspec to relate. Also for a show about the Devil with a queer protagonist and more than one queer supporting character, Lucifer is WAY too Het (tm), but especially in S1]

[^ — Credit where credit is due: Chloe’s backstory of being a child actress who did a nude scene in a movie when she was 19 is FASCINATING. I love it because it is soooo outside of my comfort zone. I never in a million years would’ve made a character with that backstory, and for that reason, I love it.]

[+ — Watching a show for a character who’s barely in it is exactly something I’ve done in the past. It’s probably something we’ve all done at one time or another, but it’s not a sustainable business model for production companies, okay? You can’t always rely on the gays to do the work for you!]

You know what you get out of S1 if you wait to watch it last? (with spoilers — but honestly, it makes the show better. That’s my entire point in this post!)

The horror that you were always going to feel now mixed with hysterical laughter as Linda is WAY too horny and WAY too susceptible to Lucifer’s desire power

“Did my father send you?” — DYING! DEAD! DECEASED!

Absolutely not being able to take Amenadiel seriously even for a second. Everytime you look up at his stony expression, you fall out of your chair laughing all over again

AND THAT’S JUST THE PILOT! You keep watching and you get to see Maze meet little Trixie for the first time (adorbs <3). You get to watch Maze meet Dan for the first time and IT’S SO GODDAMN FUCKING FUNNY I AM NOT EVEN JOKING! Like, if you can make it that far into the show by watching from the beginning, then it’s still funny. But TRUST ME! It’s way better once you know they’re besties and have seen Maze sob over an N*Sync shirt. I’M CRACKING UP JUST THINKING ABOUT IT!

You also get to watch Lucifer’s struggle with mortality/vulnerability already knowing how it works (already knowing how all of his powers work). Chloe says, “Oh, I want to shoot you so bad.” And you’re shouting YES, PLEASE! DO IT! DO IT! And it’s not because you’re hate-watching the show, it’s because you know he’ll bleed when she does and LUCIFER DOESN’T KNOW THAT YET! Malcolm’s about to shoot him episodes later and you’re yelling again DO IT! DO IT!!!! Because Chloe’s no where around this time and Lucifer won’t bleed but he doesn’t know that either! (And then you groan in disappointment when Malcolm walks away without shooting — and then you cheer when two seconds later the villain of the episode shows up and shoots Lucifer instead! \0/ It’s SO satisfying!)

What I’m saying is, Season 1 is incredible… but only if you add dramatic irony to it. If you’re as clueless as the characters? Then, god help you, because I wouldn’t have made it past Linda jumping Lucifer’s bones in her office during the pilot. I just wouldn’t have.

Further caveats:

If you want to watch solely for Maze/Eve — DON’T! My girl Eve is barely in the show after her S4 introduction, and she’s dating Lucifer for the majority of that season. Like Maze/Eve are incredible and perfect and integral to Maze’s overall character arc. You get to see them get married and they have such gems like “You broke my heart” / “Really? :D That’s awesome!” and “I don’t care if you die.” / “:’) That’s the most romantic thing anyone’s ever said to me.” — LIKE BABES, THEY’RE GORGEOUS! I just wouldn’t watch 6 seasons of a show for like 1.5 seasons total of B-storyline content. I don’t think that’s really worth it but your scales may differ.

Now if you want to watch solely for Tricia Helfer…. FAIR! THAT’S FAIR! I’m pretty sure she’s what got me sucked in. Technically, that’s probably not worth it either because she’s only a regular for S2 and 3 and then guest stars in a couple of S5b episodes — but then again, IMDB confirms she was in 47 of the 93 episodes while Eve was only in 14 (FOURTEEN??? :O What do you mean?? Wasn’t she in like most of S4????? JFC no wonder it seems like she’s never around T_T) So yeah, Tricia Helfer might be worth it! She’s fabulous as both Lucifer’s mom and as Charlotte Richards! Love her!

Season 3 is both the longest and the WORST season no matter when you watch it. Unless you have some deep-seated nostalgia for Smallville, you’re going to be miserable during this season and there’s absolutely no way I can make it better for you. I am so sorry. It’s horribly paced. It has a narratively useful characterization backslide with NO TRIGGER POINT so it therefore doesn’t actually flow with the narrative after all. It has too many filler episodes which for this show, does actually ruin the pacing, and includes two miscellaneous episodes that have nothing to do with anything slotted AFTER a very massive, huge finale cliffhanger! (WHY???? @ Fox execs, PLEASE EXPLAIN!!!!!) They completely fucked up the character foil I assume they were intending because there’s no way you intended that to be a face value parallel. I refuse to accept that. And that’s before whatever the fuck their goal was with the Chloe/Pierce romance. IT WAS SO BADLY DONE IT MAKES ME RAGE!

But also we got Chloe and Linda drunkenly taking over Lucifer’s penthouse when he was out of town, and the finale scene of Lucifer shielding Chloe with his wings as they’re getting shot at which makes me FERAL, so it’s not all bad.

Speaking of Lucifer shielding Chloe with his wings, I might have an unexplored obsession with angels that is clouding my judgement of this show. :S Okay, years ago I read a Supercat AU where Kara was the devil and I was enthralled but anything else I found featuring angels just wasn’t the vibe. And then I found Lucifer and got hooked. So IDK! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So far the only time miscommunication has really been used is for the sake of comedy and it's great.

Maomao being a total gremlin

The Slow burn romance-

Jinshi's attempts at using his charms on Maomao - and it not working/ her rejecting him as coming off as genuinely entertaining and not annoying/ creepy/ uncomfortable. While avoiding coming off in a 'heehee harassing women is funny,' or anything of the sort, - Jinshi is very much a case of 'He's doing the thing because he likes her and the fact she doesn't respond the same way as the other woman kinda makes him love her more/ makes him more interested" Like a puppy trying to get someones attention.

But genuinely he also does really care and respect not just Maomao but women (or boundaries in general) in that if he ever over stepped and did something that actually put her or anyone in an uncomfortable position he'd quickly back off and apologize. Wouldn't do thing again.

He teases and pushes hoping to see what she'll do but he'd hate himself if he did anything that actively upset or hurt Maomao (or anyone tbh) in anyway.

Even if you aren't interested in them on a romantic side of things, Maomao and Jinshi also just making for a fun slow grow friendship.

Maomao clearly having some complex stuff going on in regards to like feelings of love /understanding it- more going on then simply her not being interested

How Maomao is both knowledgeable in somethings especially relating to pleasures of the bedroom if you will - due to growing but near / around the red light district. Girls at one of the brothels essentially being like family but when it comes to other things she's utterly naive and clueless- such as the importance and symbolism behind being given a hair pin.

These misunderstandings partly add to the comedy of Jinshi's slow growing affections towards her thus motivating some of his actions and her not realizing and assuming he's probably just teasing / doing what he does with all the other girls.

So far none of the characters have been overly unlikable- so at least where I'm at I think the worst has been the handmaids but you know it was done purposefully for those specific like episodes / moments with later episodes after showing change.

Some of the handmaids being utterly scared of Maomao after she went off on them.

It is something of a Mystery series so that's fun

Animation/Art is gorgeous

Just watching Maomao slowly make friends/allies out of various characters- not only Jinshi but also the Princess

I won't lie they even kinda make the political aspects of the inner workings of the Palace and things kinda interesting

And makes some of Maomao's interactions with Jinshi more entertaining cause if she did or said some of the things toward anyone else she'd probably get in trouble due to her position as just a serving girl, but Jinshi does not care. That girl could slap him on the face and he'd allow it tbh

But the you'll hate is... well I'm going barefoot for wedding since it's on the beach, it makes sense." Sensing a slight dejection, Jonah shook his head, "I mean, yes, you both had your differences but that's not the reason here? No one was deliberately keeping this from you, it's also not a case of leaving you out," he reassured her. "Not really? Rohan, Bex and I, yes meet up, but it's not everyday or even all the time? Same with Amrita and Ro. He just introduced us formally after they discovered it, but we don't all hang out together? Amrita drops by the aquarium from time to time but all three of us together doesn't happen as regular as you might think it to be?" He himself was caught up in ongoing research to block out time for social things, which, yes, was likely not a good thing, but he liked how the way his mind diverted, and he was trying to be more social, but more people lead to talking and that was never something he was good at. "I do have friends here, it'd be unfair to them to say I don't but..." he shrugged, "I'm with you and Rohan the most."

You should be excited. Those words rang in his head over and over, a weak smile forming when he looked at her. He was, he was excited and looking forward to it, he was, "I am, I am," he voiced those thoughts, but they feel like reassurances to himself, quiet and soft rather than what excitement should sound like. "I just…" There were so many things that could go wrong with their visit here and that kicked up his anxiety, "I don't want them to get hurt." He would have said more on that but Bri grew silent for a bit and all his thoughts stilled as he watched her. "Oh?" He began to backtrack on his words but as she continued he sighed a little in relief at the misunderstanding, "Oh, no no, I didn't mean surprise them, god, that would not work, no, I meant that I will tell them but you, like you said, be somewhere near while I do. I want them to see and talk to you first, before anyone else. They'll be coming in a week before, so it'll be hard to keep for them not seeing you anyway." He paused again, gaze averting as he looked away sadly, "I won't be able to pick them up, because well… you know, but yes, I'll have to talk to Rohan to bring them in to the house." The weight inside his chest grew, the warmth and happiness that began to bloom at Rohan finally meeting his mothers was overshadowed by those words, "Yeah..they'll leave…" He wished the opposite was the case, they could stay and live in this town that he had to call home now, but darkness loomed over Lunar Cove, the little moments of sun that peeked to cut through the shadows wasn't enough for him to feel relief or any sense of safety to having his mothers here. Yes, the outside world posed it's own dangers, but he had lived out there for thirty plus years, the fears that came with its accidents he had accepted, but this? He wasn't afraid of dying, not in the outside and not in Lunar Cove anymore either, not when he brushed with it more times that he'd like, yet he couldn't shake the feeling that crept of his mothers, her aunts, dying here. That he realised was far greater than his own future demise.

Thoughts weaved on other things, and that right there, added to his solemn mood. He was glad to be looking down and away when she tried to joke, his mind not letting that register as just a casual thing. Blinking rapidly he tried to let his emotions not show, feeling rather pathetic that it still held that sentiment. But that was his fault and despite her wanting to brush it off in this moment, it still meant that she held it to heart and neither did it erase his mistake, and he owned up to it. "No, you're right though, I did do that. I promise, I'm not going to leave. I shouldn't have done it in the first place." He missed home a great terrible deal after that, he often did, but this was his home now whether he'd be alive long enough to live it was another question. He braved a smile but it fell flat as he looked to the ocean again for a moment, a lung full of sea air somewhat steeled him. "It would strange, yeah, but good, I just didn't well... you know." He sighed a little, a tick of a smile forming now as she kept talking, "Of course, you'd have a binder. But that's good, I'm glad found something that you like, really, it's wonderful, you should show me sometime. Sounds like it fits your tastes too, even if it might be haunted? I won't tell her, but you don't mind it?" He had, by now, assimilated and adjusted to haunted things, finding them rather charming in a way thanks to being around Rohan, still he posed that question to Bri unsure if she held such a sentiment. "Yes, I'm okay with that, you bought it. Thank you for thinking of us but we'll be okay." A fresh is what they wanted, a house to call their own when they finally got married, and that excited him pushing fears away for the time being. "I appreciate your bias," he said with a chuckle, "But no. I've never met anyone so understanding and loving, even after everything I've put him through he still holds no expectations and lets me be me. How could I not consider myself lucky?" He closed his eyes for a moment, letting the sun warm his body and soul before giving her a light nod, "Yeah, we can head back."

"It's okay. I'm fine," She promised him, resting her hand against his shoulder to steady herself as they wandered down the beach. "I have you after all," She told him, a bright smile finding its way to her lips as she beamed up at her cousin. Looping her arm through his, she moved to rest her head against his shoulder. It was nice, getting to do this. Even if she was completely overdressed for the occasion, but it was rare these days for them to get to hang out together like they used back in Oregon. Back before they had to worry about hunters and serial killers and death around ever corner. She had missed this. She had missed them. But, as he told her he'd likely hate her more, her brow tilted up, shooting him a wary narrowed eyed look as if to ask if she even wanted to know. "I mean I'm never going to turn down shopping, though I'm fairly certain what you'd want to wear and what I'd pick out for you very drastically, but yes. I'd happily take you shopping," She promised him, giving his arm a light squeeze at the thought. Only at the mention of Amrita, she found herself growing quiet before she gave him a small shrug. "It's okay. It's not really all that surprising. Rohan and I have had our differences, though I still stand by the fact he like me up until recently, and even now I think it may be debatable? But, It's not like I don't know that you, Rohan and Bexley hang out all the time or how you, Rohan and Amrita likely have. You've built something for yourself here. It's only natural," She trailed off, biting down lightly on her bottom lip as they continued walking. Even if the worry that she might be left out because she and Rohan had their differences seemed to be ringing a little true, as much she tried to tell herself that her insecurities were just delusional and she really need to stop projecting them on to other people... Whoops.

"That is big," A small squeal broke from her lips as she gave Jonah's arm another reassuring squeeze. "Freaking out? Why are you freaking out? It's exciting! You should be excited and I know they'll be over the moon to see you walk down the aisle," She teased, giving him a slight bump with her hip as they slowed. Bri dipped her own toes into the water as she peered up at him expectantly. But, at his question, she found herself growing pale. "I- I don't-" She started to stutter out, suddenly remembering how it had been the day she had first come back. The look of complete and utter horror on Jonah's face was hard to forget. "I don't know if that's a good idea?" She admitted quietly. Chewing on her bottom lip once more as she mulled over the right way to say it. "It's not that I don't want to, I do. I just don't think surprising them with, well, me, without at least prefacing that I'm back from the dead is going to go over too well and I'm not really sure I can go through watching another person freak out or faint at the sight of me... Maybe, you could meet them first though? They could arrive to the house and I could hide up stairs to give you time to explain the sort of... elephant in the room," She winced slightly at her choice of description, how ever applicable. "And then I could come down? Logistically speaking and all? And I mean obviously. They're coming to a town filled magic, they're going to see it and I know that they'll leave and..." And would forget her. Her chest tightened at the thought, clearly not ready to process that one yet. "But, I just think given how you took the news and all, maybe we try to break it to them gently, is all... If that is even possible..."

"I mean I've kind of already been abandoned by you. You didn't exactly give a disclaimer when you did it," She attempt to tease, only to quickly remember that it was likely far too soon to try to crack a joke about. "Sorry, I was trying to make light of- ignore me... Oh," She paused, trying to keep her facial features in check to no avail. Her brow lifted ever so slightly as she gave him an eased look as if to say 'is that it?' "Jonah, no offense, but I've been asking you when you were moving out for months now. It would be weirder if you weren't. I mean I love living with you don't get me wrong and I don't want you to move out, but it would be kind of weirder if you and your soon-to-be husband moved in with Ronnie and I," She pointed softly out. "You're getting married. Moving into together is an inevitable next step. I knew it was going to happen the day you said you told me you were engaged and I've already figured it all out. Have a binder and everything," She told him, a little proud at how prepared she was this time around. "There is this apartment over in Celestial Hills that is going on sale that is to die for. Literally. The previous owner just recently dropped dead. Please don't tell Ronnie that though. The last thing she needs to know is that we may end up being haunted by an elderly lady. Regardless, I may have bribed the realtor to let me take a look around and it is incredible, Jonah. I mean incredible. It's very je ne sais quoi, tre magnifique? Basically, very french. The owner before the last one apparently was some hundred year old french vampire who based the place off of Versailles. How fun is that? Anyways, the game plan- I put down a deposit a couple days ago, since the wedding date is set and all, to hold it for us and as long as I sign the papers in the next day or so, it's ours. I was going to gift you and Rohan the house, but it seemed like you guys were already doing your own thing on your own. So, if you're okay with it, when I sign for the apartment, I can let the realtor know the house is good to put up for sale. I'm sure with that kind of beach front property it will be sold fairly quickly too," She admitted with another small shrug, which was good. Jonah was started fresh in a new house and she couldn't bare staying in theirs any longer. She would never say it out loud, but she had grown to hate their house. Not so much the house itself, but how lonely she had felt in it after he left. And as great as it was when he was over, whenever he crashed at Rohan's and Ronnie was out, she found herself feeling that sinking feeling in her chest all over again. It was a feeling she didn't want to feel anymore and, if he was leaving, the best way to ensure that she didn't was have a fresh start herself. One with hopefully better energy and, she had never lived with only girls before, so now was her chance to make the place as girly as she could possibly want. "I think he's the one whose lucky and who you are putting up with, but what can I say? I may be a little bias," She teased, giving him another small nudge as she motioned with a slight tilt of her chin back up towards the house. "You ready to start walking back now?"

Mayfair Witches Ep 3

After the improvement of Ep 2, sad to say we're back to Ep 1's level of quality. Or even worse. That was the most awkward and jarring almost-50-minutes ep I've ever watched. Some actors really tried. I could see the actors of Deidre, Carlotta, and Cip are actually good, but those lines omg. The lines are really the weakest link in this show. They remind me of X-Men: The Dark Phoenix (2019) where all lines Jessica Chastain got in that movie really sound like one of those pitch presentation on Why You Should Turn Evil. They're that bad. No matter how great an actor is, they could only do so much with bad lines. I literally facepalmed on "are you kidding me?" (I like Alex, but she's really not convincing as someone who got into shock and lost).

Second weakest link is the editing. The transition between scenes are even more awkward in this ep than in Ep 1.

Third, chemistry doesn't exist in this show. I'm so sorry. Cip and Rowan are kinda cute at the end, but it's awkward because the cinematography screams at you "This is a profound scene!" but I didn't feel it. Again, everything the showrunner said sound good, but I feel bad because I can't see it in the episode itself 😭

He ends up leaving his black lunchbox at Hellfire & invites her back to watch. He asks fem reader if she minds giving up her seat next to him (she’s totally in love with Eddie & thought he felt the same until he started dealing to Chrissy).

Reader plays it cool (but deff giving the stank face) gives Chrissy the seat and actually tells her to play in her place just to spite Eddie? Then storms out to her car to jam to Van Halen?

Maybe a few hours or days later he realizes the impact he has on reader and apologizes explaining Chrissy is just a customer & he’s in love with reader? super fluff ending ◡̈ sorry this is so long but I’ve just been playing this out in my head!!! 💖💖💖 please keep writing your stories they are amazing!!

Y/n looked forward to Hellfire every single week, it was a highlight for her and one of the main reasons was because of Hellfire's leader Eddie Munson.

They had been growing closer lately and she was falling head over heels in love with him, she was so sure he felt the same way.

Until he started dealing to Chrissy Cunningham.

Chrissy. Perfect Chrissy. She couldn't compete with the queen of Hawkins High, pretty, popular, Eddie was bound to fall under her spell.

Eddie interrupts her musings as he dashes around pulling on his leather jacket and denim vest.

"Shit, y/n I gotta make a quick stop I've got a deal with Chrissy to attend I'll be like ten minutes tops, tell the sheeples to sit and be patient yeah?".

Before she can answer he rushes out, she watches him go sadly and patiently waits for the rest of Hellfire to arrive.

When they do Dustin turns to her puzzled.

"Hey, where's Eddie?".

"Doing a deal with Chrissy". She answers him trying to not sound upset over it. The problem with Dustin though is he's very observant and she's sure he knows that she's in love with Eddie.

Eddie arrives back moments later, quicker than she expected but then she notices Chrissy in tow and her heart sinks.

"Left the goods didn't I?", He walks up to his throne and holds up his metal lunchbox with his supplies inside then turns to her.

"Hey, sweetheart do you mind if Chrissy sits in your seat today? She's gonna watch the game. Just in case she has any questions or anything?".

Chrissy is smiling at her all sweet and hopeful. How the hell could she say no? She can't even hate Chrissy because the girl is a fucking sweetheart.

"Sure" she fakes a smile and gets up but inside she's fuming. It's her seat. It's always been her seat. Then Chrissy comes along and Eddie just tosses her aside.

"You know what Chrissy, take my place tonight and play okay, I have a headache".

She grabs her bag and Eddie stands up.

"Wait y/n you can't leave. You're one of our best players". She shrugs.

''I'm sure Chrissy will play fine". Eddies brow furrows in confusion.

"Are you mad at me?". She's about to snap but sighs sadly. He doesn't know how she feels, it's not his fault if he doesn't feel the same and wants Chrissy.

It still hurts like hell though.

"I'm fine Eddie". He frowns.

"You seem mad? Come and sit down, There's a seat next to Wheeler. Are you having your monthly troubles or something?".

She gapes, the others, including Chrissy shake their head groaning.

"Edward Munson you can't possibly be that fucking oblivious!"

She storms out before he can say another word and heads to her car and drives off a little away from the school.

She parks in a quiet spot and turns on the radio, Van Halen is playing. Jump which is one of her favourites.

It makes her smile a little but she still really needs a good cry and finally lets out the tears that she's been holding in.

The next day at school she avoids Eddie, she isn't sure how to express how she's feeling to him.

A small part of her wonders if giving her seat away to Chrissy was the beginning? What if he and Chrissy grew closer and closer and he decided he didn't need her anymore?

He surely realised she was upset about Chrissy and yeah she could have said last night but it wasn't worth causing a scene about it.

Chrissy hadn't done anything wrong so how could she explain why she was so mad?

She hated feeling like this and hoped Eddie would leave her alone just to gather her thoughts.

Of course, she knew Eddie better than that. He was waiting for her after school, leaning against his van.

Before she can reach him she's intercepted by Samuel who is part of the football team. He's been giving her attention for a few weeks now but she's never been interested.

Because she's so in love with Eddie that he's all she wants.

"Hi?". Samuel grins and leans in closer to her

"So babe, you know Jason is throwing a party tonight? Ditch the freaks and hang with us cool kids?".

Ugh, Jason. She couldn't think of anything worse than being around him.

"Sorry, I uh have plans tonight". His smirk drops but he doesn't get a chance to say anything else as Eddie stalks up to them.

His brown eyes flash in anger.

"Clear off douchebag. She's not interested". Samuel sneers at Eddie and barges past him.

"Dickhead". Eddie hisses and turns his dark stare onto her.

"He's always sniffing around you right now princess. I don't like it". She sighs, here we go again they had the same conversation last week.

"I'm not interested in him Eddie". How many times does she have to tell him that? His tense stance still doesn't soften and she comes to a realisation very quickly.

"Wait...are you jealous?". He doesn't even miss a beat before answering.

''Yes, also you've been avoiding me, sweetheart. I know you're mad at me". She freezes. She should have known Eddie would realise how she felt. He wasn't stupid.

"Please just drop it?" she begs him not wanting to add confessing her feelings to her already shitty day.

"I should have never given your seat away, it was thoughtless. I just wanted Chrissy to feel comfortable. Didn't think it through though did I?".

She softens a bit but there's still this big knot inside her that needs to get her feelings out.

"I just figured Chrissy is pretty, popular, Hawkin's queen. Of course, you would choose her over me". He gapes.

"Sweetheart, shit no, no". Oh god don't cry, don't cry she chastises herself.

"Eddie, please don't lie. I understand if you like Chrissy she's... He explodes before she has a chance to finish her sentence looking frustrated.

"Jesus H Christ, Chrissy is just a customer princess. I don't have any feelings for her romantically or otherwise. None. I'm so damn in love with you that no one else compares".

His face pales and his words spin around in her mind. He loves her. Not Chrissy. He's always felt the same way.

"You love me?". She sobs feeling overwhelmed with happiness.

"I'm madly in love with you princess. Should have told you how I felt. Instead of you feeling like this". He walks up to her and strokes her cheek.

"I love you so much, 'm sorry I made you feel like this sweetheart, I love you. Only you".

She doesn't waste any more time once he says that, wrapping her arms around his neck and kisses him.

"I love you too Eds, been wanting to say for so long". He presses tender kisses on her lips, then her forehead.

"Let's get out of here yeah? Long weekend ahead of us. I'm thinking of not leaving the bed".

Fuck. She nods feeling flushed with desire.

"Lead the way Dungeon master". He winks, and opens the van door for her so she gets inside, he kisses her once more before joining her.

The possibilities of the weekend spread out in front of her and she can't wait to see how it turns out.
