i finished reading krakoa era and comic cherik are amazing SO i wanted to ask do you have any favorite issues/series i still don't really remember how to call it where cherik are also cool?? some iconis comic moments with them maybe??

im FARRR from finishing all of krakoa (ive probably barely even made a dent in this series), though i do think following the HoX + PoX issues themselves are great if we're talkin cherik-focused issues/books. i already said one of my fave aspects of cherik is their moments working together, so having a whole Omnibus dedicated to them Working Together and trusting each other (bonus points for Protective Erik with the Something Sinister bit) is already guaranteeing a sure spot in my Faves collection

one of my fave cool moments i've read so far- which is a moment i wager a lot of people can agree is Sick As Hell Visually if i may be so daring- is ABSOLUTELY this sequence from Inferno #4

any time erik and charles get to do some bamf shit together it is IMMEDIATELY peak to me this cannot be disputed and i'd be lying if i didn't say i bought this run solely for this moment here (ignore the fact they fumble this fight horribly that dont matter they looked cool as hell for five seconds !!!!!!!!!!!)

"They Were Kids I Once Knew," "The Ending," "Jacob's Ladder," that awesome one that was set during MM3 but you only realized it in the last paragraph... all gone.

need post magic reveal/ban repeal where magic is free and everyone grows in their knowledge of just what magic is and how it works etc, etc. merlin (isn't one for bragging about his powers) doesn't really mention much about his magic so people just assume he has enough to get by with like chores but not enough to catch the ire of uther EXCEPT for gauis, lancelot, and arthur bc gaius and lancelot have known about him for years and know what he's capable of and arthur sat merlin down and demanded all the stories so arthur knows he'd be a formidable opponent but he doesn't really get it yk? so he's like "yeah merlin has magic and he's capable of defending himself and camelot so he's probably on the more powerful end of the spectrum like every other sorcerer who is powerful"

and then i need merlin to be Different. like noticeably different. like idk a sorcerer is like trying out to be court sorcerer (bc merlin doesn't want another job dammit arthur give it morgana or someone-) and they perform this elaborate spell that captivates merlin and he starts asking all these questions and the sorcerer is like "yeah it's super difficult, it took me months to get it right and it takes years for some others-" and they cut themselves off bc merlin was just like "i wanna try" and does it perfectly first try. the sorcerer is seething.

camelot is hit with a heatwave and everyone is suffering and arthur is just like "morgana can you make it rain or something? it's too hot to breathe." and morgana is just like "no you idiot i can't just bend nature to my will. it doesn't like that." and merlin finally arrives with waterskins full of nice, cold, refreshing drink that the knights are frothing at the mouth to get. arthur complains again and morgana huffs and merlin is like "has he been like that this whole time?" and morgana nods with a groan and merlin laughs before going "i can try something" and leaves before anyone can say anything and arthur looks at morgana and is like "i thought you said nature doesn't like to be controlled?" and she's like "it doesn't" and then they all chase after merlin but he's chilling in the courtyard with his eyes closed, not even chanting, and then the sky starts to darken as black clouds roll in, the temperature plummets and then...snow begins to fall. in july. they all end up having a snowball fight.

a power hungry sorcerer comes along and is like "emrys....he's perfect....just what i need...teehee" and casts some spell over merlin and begins to siphon his magic and his power and merlin feels waves of his magic flood through the connection and into the sorcerer and like he's a mix of panic and concern bc yeah this mf is taking his magic but they're taking his magic. merlin tries to bargain or talk them down while the knights and arthur try to attack but the sorcerer keeps pushing them back and ignores merlin and is like "i want power, i want your power" blah blah blah monologue time and they swing another wave of magic out at the knights and knock many out while killing some and merlin is just like "ok no that's all folks thanks" and starts to push his own magic through the connection. the sorcerer has this wild gleam in their eyes and they feel more and more power fill them and it's like a high until it gets too much and they frantically try to sever the connection and their telling merlin to stop but merlin is just like "i thought you wanted my power? i'm giving it to you" and continues to flood the sorcerer with his magic until gold begins to trace their skin and they idk explode or smth and then all the magic flies back into merlin and he flexes his hands. unnamed knights 3, 6, 22, 53, and 55 still died so it's a tragedy.

a bunch of sorcerers are entertaining at a feast (kind of like the trickler) and they cast illusions all around the room that look real enough (unless you look too closely or touch it bc they are somewhat see through and your hand would pass right through them) and it's a fun and joyous night. later that week, the knights bring it up during their break while training and merlin is like "sure, what illusion should i cast?" and after some back and forth, he settles on the illusion of a dragon. it's around the size and age of aithusa bc that's all he has to go off of and it's gold since he took inspiration from the pendragon crest all around the area. it jumps around and flaps it's wings to get some air and it's all fine and dandy until elyan goes to poke his hand through it's ribs but meets physical scales and he jumps up into percival's arms. merlin looks closer and is like "oh. its real. whoops." and leon is like "whoops?? you make a real life dragon and all you have to say is whoops?" and merlin shrugs and is like "it was an accident" and leon about keels over from a heart attack "an accident? how do you accidentally-" the dragon is considered a gift from magic to camelot and helps further heal the wounds of uther's purge.

idk just like merlin being casually the most powerful sorcerer to walk the earth and unnerving people just by how little he seems to care about his shows of power but they're all like "well he's just doing all these small things that don't harm anyone and he doesn't even seem to realize just how powerful he is so what can ya do?" and they leave it be and make peace with merlin being Like That. and then camelot/arthur is attacked or smth idk and then everyone gets to see exactly how powerful and dangerous merlin is

i love when media makes fun of jk rowling but this graphic novel buzzed has to be my favorite instance of it. this book is actively pro-LGBT with a trans main character, characters who regularly share pronouns, etc. etc. and in this book, the in-universe mega popular fantasy series is written by a black woman, has a bubbling romance between two male leads, and the main villain is name K.J PROWLER....and her whole shtick is like "make wizardry great again" essentially. maybe i'm reading too much into it but to me it's so obvious.

(btw, book is called buzzed and its really good so far! about a boy named isaac, and he has OCD and his obsessive thoughts are personified by bees buzzing around him all the time, and he makes this group of friends who play the in-universe version of DnD, and then plot and character development ensues.)

Oh boy this is...quite an ask. Especially bc fanfic recs are so personal? What I think is a good fic will be vastly different from other people. I have a really high angst tolerance, so please double check tags with these. Also keep in mind that I mainly read donnie-centric fics.

It is VERY well written and has some of the best exchanges between the disaster twins. You WILL be scared for the characters and your heart WILL be crushed. Proud to say I was here for this fic since chapter 1 bc that NEVER happens with me

Turning Purple by Lizardstuff | 48,123 [ON-GOING]

Donnie slowly gets more and more sick post rise movie and the rest of the characters must find out what’s wrong and find a cure. THIS ONE’S FOR YOU, MEDICAL NERDS. Author has done research and any inaccuracies have gone over this EMT’s head. I reread this one every chapter update and every time I’m haunted by “the blueberry french toast paragraph” No I will not explain further, go read it.

MY TOP FIC RECOMMENDATION

Spider's Web with Strings Attached by CurlySwirly | 125,661 [ON-GOING]

Donnie and Leo get kidnapped and are forced to fight in the battle nexus. This is my pick for the most well written fanfic and most in canon characterization with ALL the characters. You will HEAR the characters not just through the dialogue but also through the writing itself. As the reader, you will be beaten down and have your heart crushed mercilessly which makes the pay off the most rewarding, satisfying experience that I've personally ever felt with a fanfic. This fic lives in my head rent free and I think about it at least once a day. It is my all time favorite rise fic and I highly recommend it.

The third fic is actively ongoing!

If sinners can wake up in Heaven after they die, logic follows… Adam opens his eyes in Hell Note: This one is not explicitly Guitarspear and Lute does not actually show up, but Adam does a lot of pining.

Sinner's Rut by MagnusThree

Lute is approached by Lucifer of all people with a proposition that she would have never expected to hear. But all she cares about is the prospect that Adam is alive, and whatever the state he is in, she is determined to be at his side once again. Note: This one is smut! It is going on the list anyway because it's smut with plot and the angst and fluff changed my brain chemisty.

It is feelsy and hilarious, run it through a translator and be bountifully rewarded!

Hell is forever. This immutable truth was imprinted with pain in Adam's heart. If that heart even existed. But it did, for Adam could feel it stop. And then he opened his eyes and found himself more miserable than ever. Lute finds Adam in Hell. She is given a special assignment to find Anomaly in Hell. She goes down to Hell for Anomaly (she goes down for Adam, even though he now has real horns).

Adam -- First Man, Next to Fall by MagnusThree

The attack on the hotel had been a disaster, especially for the army of Heaven. Their leader, killed; their soldiers, butchered; their weakness, revealed. Lute and those remaining exorcists that had survived the massacre have only just made it home, but she isn't ready to let it go. Not when there's still someone's head to cleave from their body, and while Adam's blood was still fresh on bedrock. Maybe a little too fresh for someone that is supposed to be dead.

Aaaaand I'm going to do some self-promo and include my own fics, because writing them brought me joy and there's nothing to stop me from doing so.

Hypocrisy and Other Sinful Things

“Wait!” the thing cried in that familiar voice. “Lute, fucking— Wait! It’s me!” Lute froze, the tip of her spear pressing lightly against the skin of the sinner’s throat. It stared up at her with wide, horrified, hopeful yellow eyes. Now that she actually looked, she couldn’t deny that she would have known them in any lifetime. The shape of his face was the same. The hair was the same. The voice was the same. But— The creature before her had one more eye than it should have. It had horns growing out of its head — the same shape that the ones on his helmet had been, but real in a way that no angel’s were. Knives grew from the tips of its fingers, impossible to be covered even by the gloves it wore. The thing in front of her was undoubtedly a demon. Adam had been an angel. Adam was dead. - Or; Lute goes to hell during the next extermination seeking revenge. Instead, she gets the crisis of a lifetime.

In which Adam ends up in hell and makes his psychological breakdown everyone's problem. Note: No Guitarspear yet beyond a whole lot of Adam pining, but things will heat up in the next fic.

Salvation on the Radio

“What the hell, Alastor! Why would you bring him here?” Vaggie shouts. Alastor tilts his head to the side innocently. One ear twitches, but his smile never wavers. “Why, our little meeting last week! Charlie did say that the hotel needs new guests, didn’t she?” “Guests, not evil bastards who destroyed the hotel!” “But Adam here is seeking redemption! We do not discriminate between souls in need, do we?” - Or; Alastor drags Adam to Charlie's doorstep like a cat that hasn't killed its prey yet. Things happen from there. Note: Again, Lute doesn't actually show up for a while. So far it's a whole lot of Alastor inflicting The Torments upon Adam and Charlie having PTSD. But we will get to the actual Guitarspear content! ~ Eventually! ~

Vile and Blasphemous

When Lute finds out that Adam is alive as a sinner and under the effects of an unknown curse, she goes to hell to find him. There, she is helped by an amnesiac sinner named Eve. The two hardly get along, but Lute will take whatever help she can get. Yet she can't quite shake the feeling that something is off… Note: Because it's not supposed to be a secret and you can't see tags on tumblr, I'll just say it here. Eve is actually Adam. Lute has unknowingly recruited Adam to help her find Adam and gets to have a gay crisis whilst on her remarkably circular journey. I am having. So much fun with this fic.
