the usual.

Eating lava, diving deeper in the ocean than any living thing has ever gone. Walk in front of a train to see what kind of immortal I am, like am I gonna kill all the passengers or will I be flung away like a rag doll. I’d take an ungodly amount of painkillers just to not feel any pain while doing this. On that note probably try a lot of drugs. I would probably make this into a public thing also to get funding and shit for all the stuff I can discover aswell as making some money so that the adventure isn’t completely useless.

I would 100% try to avoid ways in which I could get stuck. So cavediving is a Nono. I would 100% look for the tallest building or tower I could jump off of and just see how it feels. Ofcourse I’d try not to traumatise too many people but I wouldn’t bend over to accommodate for them. Seeing how this is an entire month I would probably like to know the specifics of the immortality beforehand but I’d most likely choose to do it in the northern winter. Just to try out things in the cold while I can also just fly south with my public funding money to try the hot stuff.

If I somehow got a hold of NASA or smth before I used my immortality month I would try to use that to my advantage and try some scientific stuff that they could only dream of discovering. Although this would have to cost a hefty sum aswell. This doesn’t take into account that they could always force me to do things but since I’m still the one in control of the power and because I believe in the fact that humans do in fact have some empathic souls out there I feel like I’m fine with taking my chances.

This is only stuff I could come up with on the top of my head but I would 100% make some sort of suggestion box of sort so that I don’t miss anything.

If you could become immortal and invulnerable for 30 minutes once every month (it has to be all at once, you can't chop the time into smaller segments and use minutes separately), what fuckery would you commit?

this is a sort of recap post for the huabiao awards and basically a post to celebrate yibo and the amazing actor that he is. i know that we all have mixed feelings about this, and every other nomination that he didn’t win, but it’s important to go back to why we are here and support him. it’s because he is yibo and his works do not disappoint both the fans and the general audience. we already won when we watched those films — whenever that was for you.

we were all holding our breath if he will make it to the red carpet, sadly, he didn’t. that actually went on hs. his schedule was already so tight with the race and flying to qingdao. thankfully, his team took some excellent photos of him and with all the racer 85 related props 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

then as soon as he sat down, he was a bit late to the ceremony too, the host cued him and mentioned his name. he stood up and bowed to the audience. i love the cheers for him!

the award for outstanding actor was early, i guess all of us got nervous and hopeful that he will get it. he didn’t but he was so gracious. he was nodding and clapping. the tag on hs for him is how you can’t lipread what he’s saying. some are guessing that he said that it’s not easy, meaning it’s not easy to win it. and considering he was up against zhang yi, it makes sense.

you probably read about how hard it is to get nominated for this category. this award is given every 2 years. no distinction between supporting and main actor and there are only 2 nominees. just imagine all the eligible movies and actors — but still, yibo was chosen. he is the first post 90s actor to get nominated. and this is technically, within his first year of being a movie actor and releasing his works.

i have no bad blood with zhang yi. he is a well loved actor and what a coincidence that they both posted about each other’s movie before, and now, they ended up being nominated side by side.

yibo recognizes excellence. if anything, i’m sure this makes him want to strive more to be on that level. i’m trying hard to not quote timothee chalamet’s SAG speech here but it fits so well — “ i know we’re in a subjective business, but the truth is I’m really in pursuit of greatness. I know people don’t usually talk like that, but I want to be one of the greats.” and he is on his way to becoming one of the greats. it’s a privilege to watch him grow into that, and i hope we all stay on for years to come and see it happen.

the surprise was how he was actually gonna be onstage. not only that, he was there with zhang ziyi and jackie chan to give a tribute to Chinese Cinema. it makes me proud to see him be the representative of the young generation. because he really is. and he doesn’t even need to pretend and perform to be that — he already is. it comes natural to him.

overall, he was in a good mood. why wouldn’t he? he is attending an event celebrating the movies he worked hard for. tho my favorite is when he smiled like a kid after he presented on stage and how he was interacting with his seat mates — especially Ma Li.

lastly, i’ll talk about some pre-awards chatter. weeks before, people were talking about if yibo would go or not. moreso, if he will be nominated. it’s so ironic cause his antis were babbling about how people that are not invited are blacklisted cause it’s the 120th anniversary celebration. but lo and behold — not only is he attending. all the films he participated in are nominated. he is nominated as best actor. and during the broadcast, he went onstage with jackie chan and zhang ziyi. 😂😂😂😂

it’s the usual song and dance. it’s yibo’s favorite past time. proving his haters wrong.

same thing with them saying he is “banned” because it’s been a while since his last movie project - mermaid. clearly not. tonight’s program showed how he is the movie darling. he is just doing what he said he will be in his past interview, that he wants to experience the world to be able to be better in his craft. i couldn’t get that out of my head when he said it and that explains all his decisions. he is gonna be so selective with his next movie project and i’m excited what he picks next! he’s always had an excellent intuition of what roles will work well and challenge him. the rest can breathe for a while cause he is not coming for their wigs — yet. lol. i have a feeling that as soon as mermaid is out, he is gonna raise the bar again. we just have to wait patiently.

Saccharine and Sweet

You fall asleep before you hit the bed.

You’ve overworked yourself to your death this week. Snuggling beneath the covers, you recall how much work your editor most likely had to do with your constant grammatical errors and lack of metaphors in your paragraphs.

Sleep didn’t come easy anymore. After all, you had only one month left to live before the Devil would come and claim your life for his own. You danced in the palm of his hand, obliging to every flick of his wrist and raise of his finger.

It’s cold tonight. You hope to get some shut-eye.

It’s still dark out when you open your eyes. Your vision blurs a bit, showing bits of black and white before your brain can register the scene in front of you. You reach for your phone and you feel the ache in your eyes when you realize that you’ve been asleep for 17 hours. Cursing under your breath, you roll your shoulders and stretch a bit, an attempt to ease the pain in your muscles.

Ever so slightly, you sluggishly stand up, tipsily stumbling over your feet. You’re about to open your balcony window to get a good whiff of fresh, cold-night air, when you’re met with the terrifying image of a horror-esque serial killer mask stained with blood.

“Dreadful etiquette, I apologize, ever so sincerely.” He mused, voice dripping with sarcasm. Your breath hitches in your throat, and you back away, step-by-step. The wobble in your legs is still present, seeing as how you trip over your own feet and fall to the floor.

The man makes his way through your window, strutting and taking his time as he makes his way towards you. Your back is up against your closet, and you start hyperventilating when he brings out a switchblade.

When he finally crouches down to look at you eye-to-eye, you look away and your eyes close. You tremble as his lips brush against your ear.

“Boo.” a low chuckle reverberates in your chests as he tilts your chin up, making you look him in the eye. Your facade breaks when your heart beats faster in your chest, not out of fear, but for him. He’s your sweet serial killer, after all. You’re lucky he played out this scene for you; it’s something you want to add to your newest book.

You want to place a kiss on his mask, specifically where his mouth would be. The mental image of a shit-eating grin you think Ronin has on makes your stomach flutter.

“Didja really want me t’play this out for ya, darlin’?” he chuckles, removing his mask. There’s a bit of sweat around his face from the heat, and your first instinct is to dab it away with the ends of your sweater. The touch is sweet, domestic almost, especially considering the threat he has on your life right now.

You pull your hand back. If he shifts ever-so-slightly from missing your touch, you convince yourself that you’re hallucinating.

“Yeah. It helps me think of how I’m s’pposed to write dark romance, Ro.” you reply cooly, the slight waver in your voice betraying you. You continue, “I return the question, did you really have to quote J.D. when climbing through my bedroom window?” You’re being a tease, especially after knowing how much he loves ‘Heathers.’

“Jus' part of my charm, darlin’.” he retorts, lending you a hand to bring the two of you up and on your feet again. Heat rushes to your cheeks. There’s a weird tone that lingers in the room. It reeks of a dead-person-walking and their psychotic-serial-killer-boyfriend. You inwardly laugh at the amount of references you’ve been making in your head. Seems your jokes are in no shortage of creativity whenever Ronin’s around.

The burgundy-haired man spots the video game controllers in the corner of your room. He picks both of them out, weighing them in his palms, as if he were stalling.

“Wanna play?” you sit on your bed, patting the space beside you. The duvet dips under his weight. “So, what’s a writer like you have on ‘ere? Call of Duty? Nah, too bloody. Tekken? No fun if you’re all alone. A dating game, maybe?” he asks with a smirk, voice dripping with false curiosity and sarcasm.

“I do, actually.” you giggle as you connect the console onto your television, turning both on as you do so.

“Aw. ’s there no space in your game files for little old me?” Ronin removes his beanie, running his hand through his red-wine hair as he does so. You spot how soft his hair looks and you try to contain your thoughts before you want to do the same.

You puff out a sigh at his joke, smiling and giddy. “Dork. It’s just Stardew Valley.”

“Huh. Not too familiar with it.” he frowns, “How d’ya play?” he scooches closer to you, putting down his controller and observing the screen with a renewed fervor.

You move your character around. “You basically play as a farmer in a town. As you progress, you can romance some of the townspeople! You can even get married to them, it’s adorable.” There’s a hint of love in your eyes; he notices. His gaze is on you instead of the screen.

Over the next few hours, you explain the mechanics of the game to him. At some point of the night, your chest is pressed against his back. His chin rests comfortably on your shoulder. The irony of the situation has lost itself on you. You wonder if he’ll still threaten to kill you after this, especially with how he’s already had a hold on your beating heart this entire time.

“Darlin’.” he drawls. “Why are you picking Sebastian? There’s gotta be someone else. He’s way too fucked.” he nitpicks. “Don’t tell me this is your ‘I can fix him’ bull.” You watch as he bites his lip, visibly stressed at your choices. You laugh, saccharine and sweet. You hand him the controller. “Fine, here. I have taught you enough, my young student. It’s your turn now.”

“Ugh. Do I have to?” He complains, but gladly accepts the controller from you. “Y’gotta go for Abbigail. She’s sweet. Kinda edgy too. Perfection incarnate.” he jokes, handing over a few grapes to the purple-haired character in game.

You watch him play, watch his eyebrows furrow whenever deciding what to say to the bachelorette. “Ro?” You start. He moves his ear closer to you, his eyes momentarily glued to the screen before meeting yours.

“Aside from Abbigail…is there anyone else you think you would love to romance?” The question is innocent. The underlying answer is not.

His mouth hangs slightly open, eyes full of thought. The corners of his lips quirk up to a smile. “‘Dunno. Harvey, maybe? He seems—” he finishes his sentence with a whistle.

You let out a loud laugh at that. If a part of you aches and wishes he had a different answer, you didn’t let it show.

When the rays of the sun hit the two of you through your bedroom window, it’s a sign that he’s stayed over for too long. You usher him out, worried he’ll get caught if he remains with you any longer.

You help him crawl out of your window. He has an iron grip on the sill, and a bit of you gets curious about how strong he actually is. It’s just you and him, a window between the two of you. A see-through wall. Does he see through you too?

“Hey.” His voice snaps you out of your thoughts. As always, you smile at him, saccharine and sweet.

His kisses your cheek. Your face flushes red. Your hand immediately cups where he had just left his mark on you, keeping it safe, keeping it locked on your cheek.

“Maybe you’re someone I’d like to romance.”

He’s disappeared within the shadows of the back alley before you can reply.

Maybe you should make him play these video games with you more often.

i have already thought of a system for if i start it, tho it’s probably not perfect and has its flaws (lemme know if you see any)

i’d still let there be non canon timeline posts (heck even small storylines, if i can), i’d mark certain posts with specific tags as a way to mark them as part of the big metaplot, and make a masterpost linked in the pinned that has links to all main storylines in the metaplot

i’m still very unsure on whether or not i’ll do it, and i still don’t have a proper coherent storyline for how the metaplot will go (don’t ask me to make it up as i go 😔 i tried that with the gerry blog and i was chilling until i realized there were probably consequences to prentiss dying that early, at which point i went into a doom spiral)

Your post was incredibly fun and interesting to read and I couldn't help but want to point out some of my own observations and share some thoughts!

You have discussed how Ena’s sides represent her “individuality” and here’s another little thing I have noticed!

> In the game, Salesman actually says NOTHING regarding her opinion towards her job, staying “professionally-playful”, yet distant.

What I think is also a point of interest is that a few of the jobs Ena has collected didn’t promise her ANYTHING in return, basically making her work for free. And while helping Taxi Driver’s Heads might have been justified as "helping a fellow worker”, what about Hoarder Alex? The guy, at most, said that he MIGHT give us his thanks, but that’s about it. And yet Ena still accepts the job.

And we HAVE seen how Ena reacted when she thought that The Witches weren’t gonna pay.

The only explanation I can think of so far is that she was willing to let it slide due to the fact that she NEEDED to pass through the bridge, which made said task a priority.

Technically speaking, “aiming for the target” could be taken metaphorically, aka cementing Ena’s main task as dealing with the Boss. What kind of “dealing” is being talked about remains to be seen!

The most notable example of that would be the confusion that Genie and Bathroom cause, however I want to focus on what I think might be the most important miscommunication in the game, aka the one between Ena and Froggy.

Considering that in this particular case Froggy was actually trying to use a fixed expression from a different language, it is quite probable that he might have caused confusion by what exactly he meant by “aiming for the Boss’s gut”. Do we have to kill him? Peacefully deal with him? Get rid of him? “Dethrone” him? Who knows!

After what the Receptionist tells us (You are too late! The Boss isn’t even born yet) I have realised that Froggy, while heavily implied, never did really SAY that the Boss has been born, no? For all we know he might be born SOON, but not yet.

It also aligns with the fact that both Froggy and The Receptionist mention us being “late”.

However, that’s just a speculation.

But who is the Boss? What does he do?

> Regarding Ena’s apparent Sin, it honestly feels like it’s not this specific Ena, but ENAs in general that are unforgivable. Honestly? It’s very hard to even start guessing what may be the reason, but I do have a few theories.

The first thing I have noticed is this particular sentence

I’m not doing what you SAY I’m doing

This most likely hints at some huge misunderstanding that has taken place.

If you think about it, misunderstandings are also quite a common theme in ENA DREAM BBQ. Just take the ending for example! Or when Ena goes to the Purge Event, during which Froggy assumes she’s partying and is having a good time.

Another theory I have is that Ena might be, quite literally, being punished for the sins of others, as has been hinted in the dialogue with Taski Maiden.

Maybe she’s unforgivable because she’s a “vessel” for the sins of other beings, hence her being unable to be “sin-free” herself.

Frankly, for all we know she might have been simply at the wrong place at the wrong time.

But of course, it’s impossible to say for sure, although some sort of misunderstanding playing a role might be quite a possibility.

Honestly tho, Ena’s overworking tendencies and disregard for herself is honestly quite saddening:(

Wonder if it’s due to the feelings of guilt or regret? And if so, are they misplaced?

Could it be that it’s impossible to forgive Ena because she can’t forgive herself?

Have you noticed how she doesn’t seem to be all that concerned by the idea of being unforgivable?

But, well, all of this is nothing more than a speculation at the moment.

What if the whole game is Ena's subconscious?

I'm sure that most have already heard of such a theory, but what if everything (or mostly everything) is nothing more than a dream, in which case this may open a whole other bug of worms.

However, what I want to focus on are Ena's view of herself, because if the world itself is a dream, in whatever way of form, then it means that what we have seen regarding Ena would be completely Ena's own view and opinion of herself. That, in turn, would mean that her "unforgivable" state would be entirely her "fault" too.

Could it be that she did something she deeply regrets? Does she blame herself for something out of her control, or is she actually responsible for committing something terrible?

The idea of other ENAs existing, in this context, has left me thinking that, what if they actually are the "species" that represent certain people? With the hints to war and Ena's connection to the military, could they represent different participants, including those who might have simply been affected by such events, or are they only the people who have actively been participating?

Well, all of that remains to be seen.

I’m not sure if I have missed anything because it’s quite hard to keep track of everything but yeah!

Ena in Dream BBQ and Work Culture

HELLO Dashboard!! Ever since i first played DBBQ i've found the entire game endlessly interesting (as have most people, LOL) But one of the most interesting, and in my opinion, most Potent things, is Ena's character and how she relates to the game's commentary on modern work culture.

So for anyone as much of a #SICKO as me 😭 Here's an embarrassingly long analysis of just that! There's SO much to talk about with this game, and even when I'm trying to focus on one specific idea with this post, I'm sure I'll still miss things, so just stick with me best you can OK? 😭 😭

My aim for this post is to allow you to understand Just how deep in the torment nexus Ena is, and to want to say "she should be at the club" Only to realize she can't even go to the club. She can't even go to the club. Because of Job. (Among other, hopefully more intelligently articulated things!)

SO, Let's just jump right in :D

First, to state the obvious—Ena's literal entire life is her job. The only moods she expresses under normal circumstance are "smooth talking salesperson where every line is about working or trying to sell something" and "Stops keeping up the veneer and gets frustrated and pissed because she hates her stupid job."

This permeates every aspect of her character—I don't think there's a single line in the game so far where she says like, Anything about herself. There's nothing about what she may want or what she may like. It's all about her fuckass job or the fuckass Boss.

And of course, even in gameplay aspects, you literally don't get a chance to choose whether you accept a job or not, like the thought of doing anything besides giving her time and energy for other people or her job's benefit doesn't even occur to her (Or, it can't occur to her—I doubt the Boss would want to allow her reprieve from anything at all, and I'm sure Ena would know this).

(^ Ena's reaction to being told to find a mythical figure that she maybe didn't even know existed cause Froggy sure as hell didn't to do a stupid job for Froggy's stupid ass. Like)

Maybe i'm reaching here, but I even find it interesting how her red hand has no fingers (besides a thumb). I feel like that represents a lack of individuality she has when she's in Salesperson mode, or at least, a lack of individuality she's been allowed. A lack of having a defined being cause it's all about this stupid job.

There's lots of avenues to go from here, but let's start with another big point of the game: Everybody hates her. Except for like, three characters, every NPC in the game either insults her, talks down to her, blatantly doesn't respect her, or Literally tells her nobody should be punished for being born except her. Typical day for Ena.

I'm not going to get into why I think this is—for me there's not enough evidence to speculate with surety right now—but I think this does tie strongly into her commitment to her job. Ena working her ass off in every aspect of her life and earning nothing but disrespect for it is very reminiscent of real life work environments.

Think of how almost every NPC claims they are "the Boss" in such a way that many of them seem to want to be the Boss, like he's some kind of well-known or respected figure. The description for the game on Steam even says as much: "Play as ENA as she searches for the Boss that everyone wants to be."

(eg: "I am the B-O-S-S!"):

People wish they were the Boss, they want to be some kind of rich capitalist with power and fame, but when looking at someone who actually works for him, and probably is the reason the Boss has profit and success in the first place, they insult her and demean her no matter how much she gives herself to them and the Boss. I'm sure you can see the real life parallels here.

It's even possible one of the reasons Ena works so hard in the first place is as an attempt to earn respect from these people, or to make up for whatever everyone thinks she did that made everyone hate her so much. Especially considering...

Our society is one that tells its people that Work is unequivocally Good. Committing yourself to work is what everyone, no matter who they are or what they face, is what you have to do to be a valuable member of society, and to have any respect from other people in the slightest. It tells its people that you only have value as a living human being at all if you give your life to work.

Even though this blatantly isn't true. If people think you're the Wrong type of worker, or if people think your work isn't valuable, helpful, or that it doesn't require skill, you can work as hard as you want but you'll still be treated like shit. But, hey, work is still your duty as a member of society, right? Stop bitching and whining and pull yourself up by your bootstraps, right?

Needless to say, it's easy to see how this whole idea is being represented in DBBQ. She even knows how much she's sold herself to this, she just... Seems to have extremely casually accepted it all LOL, which, I mean... What else does she have the power to do?

This very casual and nonchalant acknowledgement of her lack of autonomy connects to another big point: Ena doesn't value herself, nor does she even know how to exist without being in a constant state of working.

Let's talk about the Purge: There's a LOT to get to here in terms of Ena herself LOL, but the intrigue starts before she even enters the party. Literally Froggy just saying she's about to enter an "Event" stops her in her tracks and worries her. Not to mention the next line...

This feels like an indication that despite how much she commits herself to it, Ena does "crave freedom" from her shitty job, although she can scarcely admit this anywhere else so far. Then, if you talk to this slime guy, you get some strange text.

As far as I know, the text for interacting with things doesn't look like this anywhere else in the game. And given that it looks exactly the same as how Ena's lines do in the Purge, it's seemingly the only peek we get into her internal monologue, and it is. Quite worrying! She literally can climb up a hellish freezing floating mountain and yet this is by far the most freaked out she gets in the entire game.

And then to actually get into the Purge, an Evil eye Ball tells her that she needs to give a literal arm or a leg to get in. And she just does it. Like no hesitation no further questions she just gives it away to the evil eye ball. Presumably for Good? Because the only reason she regains the arm later is because of Genie magic? Like Ena. Girl. Are we gonna talk about this at all.

But so many real life work environments expect you to give every part of yourself in order to be allowed to exist and live in society, including your physical being and critical parts of your personhood at all.

(Let me also say I find it intentional that she gave away her white arm. Whereas her red hand literally doesn't have fingers, the sharp claws she has on her white hand represent the individuality and unique identity she Does have. However, it's also the part of herself that's in conflict with her ability to be a Good Worker, that always does exactly what she's supposed to do, and never complains, and never gets in the way of her duties.)

She was already very distressed here, but it's a clear indication of how little she values herself. It was a motion to lose a part of herself just to reach the Genie, both for her stupid job, and possibly for the possibility of "freedom" from it all. And your average job these days—no matter how important you are to your cause—will drill it into you that your ability to be a good worker is infinitely more important than your existence as a person. It's easy to see how Ena may have internalized that.

And then she goes to the club one time and this happens

I won't get too deep into her dialogue with the NPCs here because I think their intention is pretty clear; Being in a place so antithetical to a work environment, and a place where she's supposed to let loose and have fun, is so distressing and impossible to even fathom for her that This Happens.

Like, everything at the Purge is insane, but this is a particularly heartbreaking line for me. One because of her job's shitty environment that's broken her down so much—do you think she EVER gets a break, because I sure don't—but also because of how it's conditioned her to not even believe she can "afford another minute of joy." Ena :[

Note how she's covered in these branches that started growing during Froggy's phone call, which look very similar to how she looks in this gag with the Shaman—it's literally her nervous system. In her scene with Mitu she even says she's feeling "sick," She's literally freaked out of her flipping Gourd with her goddamn Nerves On The Outside

Hell, even though Meanie's speaking (which, I mean, no shit, in another line she literally describes her job as "deplorable" 😭), these sprites in the files are actually labelled "Anxiety", suggesting that she's SO freaked out by being somewhere supposed to be so opposite to her work she's become another variant of herself, a la Drunk Ena from Season 1.

I won't get much more into this, because @cube-cumb3r has a PHENOMENAL post I'll link in the notes that goes deeper into this stuff from the Purge and the "Anxiety" thing, And also gets more into theory territory than I do here! Please please go read that post, it is so damn good.

In any case, I think the scenes with the Purge NPCs are the biggest examples in the whole game of how much she hates her fuckass job, yet she can't be allowed to be anything besides a wage slave to it. And just as she's internalized everybody in her world's dislike of her, she hates herself for it.

So:

We've established that Ena's shitty job parallels the real life work conditions that plague our world, and that these conditions have caused her to devalue herself and believe she can't have any reprieve from them... but, what even is her job?

Apparently she's a salesperson, but what is she even selling? She tries to offer a "divestment opportunity", and tells the Witches she can show them how to "grow [their] own [boss]" which definitely falls in line with the Sales thing, but besides that it's still not clear, even when she talks to Froggy.

I suppose the "grow their own boss" line does sound a lot like the phrasing used in MLM schemes, with how they lure people in by telling them they can "be their own boss." The Receptionist also calls Ena a scammer and a conman, so maybe she is a sort of scammer, but, I also don't exactly think the Receptionist think she has the most reliable opinions of Ena LOL

She also calls her a "pink-collar slug", pink collar meaning a job traditionally associated with women, which. ??? I don't fully know where to go with that.. like ...Nothing she does harkens to... Any kind of job expected to be done by women, imo?? Um. Yeah idk i just thought that may be significant??/ 😭😭😭😭 Listen man I can't know it all

Anyway. Maybe I'll be proven embarrassingly wrong when we receive more information in future chapters, but I think the lack of clarity on what she's supposed to be is representative of the games themes. The constant disrespect Ena receives makes her seem likely to be a low-tier worker, someone at the bottom of the ladder that people have no problems walking all over.

Because these types of jobs will treat you the same no matter who you are or what you're supposed to be doing. She's doing what the world tells her she needs to do in order to be a respected member of society, and yet she's also someone people feel comfortable treating poorly because she's at the bottom—because has no power of her own. It doesn't matter what she's supposed to be doing, it matters that she's the Wrong type of worker.

And how is she supposed to ever say anything for herself? It seems virtually baked into her Salesperson side to completely ignore past all the rude things these assholes say to her. After all, not only would that probably just make most people ruder to her (and impede her ability to complete jobs for them) isn't the customer always right?

...OK I will say her whole "Understood! Aim for the target!" line DOES seem like her overall job here is to fucking kill the Boss, but this is long enough already and the likely theme of Ena having a violent streak and whatnot is another beast entirely that I am NOT getting into here 😭😭

Besides, maybe she has no clearly defined job because we've already seen exactly what it is. To sell her life, time, and emotions to whatever all these clowns ask of her, and to receive no reward besides another goddamn job to do.

I think future chapters may delve more into Ena's true feelings on her situation, and possibly even how she'll get freedom from it. Allow me to mention the scenes with Theodora, wherein if you try to "aspire to receive a blissful life" Theodora just tells Ena "You can't aspire for more than what you are capable of." (LIKE OKAYYYY.... RUDE MUCH????)

Until, finally:

How is her mind—containing a desire for freedom—supposed to be in harmony with the letters it spits out, when she's been so conditioned that the only thing she's allowed to be is a worker?

Now, even I still have a lot of questions after this. Like: What has happened in Ena's past that made her this way? How and why did she take this job in the first place? What is up with the "Guys wait, I'm not doing what you say I'm doing" scene I literally didn't even mention that once here. Why should nobody be punished for being born except poor damn Ena, and does it relate to any of the themes I just talked about?

I... don't know. Like I actually truly have no idea. But I have confidence, even if it's in a delightfully vague and abstract Ena-typical way, that we'll find out eventually.

Hazbin Hotel Storyline Concept/theory kind of

Okay this just random story line idea or fanfiction that thought of a while ago it’s not backed up by much of anything don’t take it seriously!!

I’m gonna place this under theory cuz why not and you never know

Context before anything: I’ve conjured up the theory that Roo created a cult on earth called the Cult of Roo this was meationed in the first ep of Helluva Boss so Roo as being either as myth or real entity exist inside the hellaverse

The general idea is that Roo would have children on earth my idea of Roo is that they can be anything male/female etc. but overall I see them as a sexless beings I’d have to imagine they’d be male to have children faster but I also think that most of these kids wouldn’t survive birth (cuz yk I don’t think it would be easy to have a normal human carry a ancient beings child) so the Children of Roo would be a very limited amount but let’s say lot of them actual did survive

Lilith in old text is known as a being for taking/killing babies/children

I had the thought that years and years ago Lilith went out of her way to hunt these children done and get rid of them know what spreading something like Roo would do to the world since being a witness to it first hand in Eden

Going by the theory that Roo is Charlies real mom or was a type of surrogate I think after Roo had Charlie she got the idea for Children of Roo starting it in the mid to late 1800s and ending it in early 1900s

I’d have to make big assumption here and say that Charlie was born around the 1800s she’s abt 200+ years old the time is probably set in 20XX in Hazbin currently

Anywho I made theory before saying that Roo could also possibly be Alastor’s Father here considering in old Alastors lore like really old Alastor back from Zoophobia era Alastor’s parent was the literal embodiment of Evil called Malvada

Okay back to Lilith I think she would have been very successful in getting rid of the children that came from Roo until she got to Alastor

I think that Alastor mother saw that something was wrong with him immediately and protected him with Voodoo shielding him from any danger and being fully consumed by evil since he was an infant

Once Lilith got to Alastor to kill him she’d fail I would think that not only was Alastor was protected but so was some parts of his house including his crib

Later after Lilith went into hiding (heaven would honestly be the safest place) knowing that there’s atleast one Child of Roo left in the world also if she failed to kill one and Roo was still active in Alastor life I think Alastor mother would hear something from her sons room and caught Lilith not completely but enough to see that she was woman and had blond hair but not her face this info would reach Roo in which Roo would have to had acknowledge that Lilith was out killing their children

Once Lilith came back she’d have to tell Charlie everything her gone for that long I doubt she wouldn’t be questioned I can see Lilith giving her the responsibility of finding out who that spared child was and kill them

Going by Charlie and Alastor bring half-sibling, that means Charlie have to bare the burden of not only just finding out Lilith isn’t her bio mom she’s connect to the Root of All Evil, she has a sibling and not only that she has to find that sibling and kill them for the betterment of all beings all in like one sitting :)

I like to think that Charlie and Lilith actually doesn’t quite know who the missing kid is, and neither does Alastor know he’s connected to Roo (he is picking up some things that sets him differently than others tho)

I think this revaluation would be done by Roo where they all get to know together mainly Alastor and Charlie find outs and Charlie passes the info to Lilith

How this concludes i don’t really know 😭 but do know since Alastor continues to be protected by Voodoo we’re he doesn’t get full consumed by evil Lilith and Charlie don’t have to worry that much anymore

Back at it again with another theory: What if Lucanis’ betrayal wasn’t a betrayal at all?

(obviously, spoilers below the cut)

During The Wigmaker Job, we have some dialogue between Illario and Lucanis about their position within both the Crows and the Dellamorte family. Illario wants Caterina to step down so he can take the coveted First Talon spot. Lucanis reassures him that his time is coming, to which Illario makes a snide comment about whether his cousin would ever go against their grandmother’s wishes. When they continue the conversation after the job, Illario states that Lucanis is the potential heir, that he’s her favorite, and that he’s unlikely to say no to her. Lucanis doesn’t argue, only insists that he doesn’t want to be First Talon, and that he hopes she’ll see reason before that. It’s mentioned again in Eight Little Talons - Caterina favors Lucanis. It’s well-known enough among the Crows that Viago and Teia discuss it in front of her (not on purpose, but she doesn’t deny it). He’s her prodigy through and through.

In the opening scene for the Lucanis quest in Veilguard, Caterina is poised, as you’d expect of the First Talon. She’s certain that the body they buried wasn’t her grandson, that it had been altered with blood magic. She doesn’t pose it as a theory, though: she poses it as a fact. It could, of course, merely be her confidence, but there’s another very unusual aspect to the scene – everyone else discusses how Lucanis was clearly betrayed, that someone must have sold him out in order for the Venatori to capture him. Caterina is the only one in that room who never speaks on it. She doesn’t ask for justice, doesn’t mention vengeance, never acknowledges that her grandson was sold out by someone he trusted – perhaps because he wasn’t. 

What if, when Caterina comes to him with a plan, with an impossible request, he’s still her favorite prodigal grandchild, and he still does whatever she asks? She’s had him tortured before as a child, has tortured and starved and beaten him herself before, because it makes him stronger and more resistant to it in the future. He says in The Wigmaker Job that he used to hate her for it, but now he understands. He justifies it. All Crows justify it, because they have to - if they don’t, then the cruelty wasn’t for survival’s sake, and their suffering meant nothing. Perhaps he doesn’t even question it. When Caterina tells him that she has a job for him, he takes it. 

What if the contract has a caveat? Sure, Calivan must die by his hand by the end of it, a little treat for a job well done, but what if his primary mission is reconnaissance, is discovery? The Venatori are using blood magic to torture and corrupt prisoners. It would behoove the Crows to find out what it entails and how to resist it, before it’s turned back on them. It would have to be someone so deeply, unabashedly loyal to her that when she asked them to infiltrate a Venatori prison, expecting torture at best, their own death at worst, they’d take the job anyway, no questions asked - someone Caterina can trust, certainly, but also someone who has never once said no to her.

And Lucanis has always been a loyal grandson.
