ofc daniel has more(?) fans (again, arguable since i think most support him are ‘casual’ fans instead of die hard bias-type), but we’re talking about potentially alienating or irritating a whole population (i use the term ‘population’ very loosely here, because it might not be everyone but even those who might not be a big fan may be supporting him solely on race and nationality). the geopolitical/geosocial impact of axing the premier latinx pilot on the grid? the accusation of racism that might come into play with such axing? rbr does NOT have the PR team nor the political (and arguably financial) power to return from such accusations. not saying daniel couldn't attrack the same financial support, but again regional celebrity representing a whole racial community kind of is a big deal. (note: this is slightly different from lewis’ case regarding racism because his UK market is pretty divided imo, and the current F1 fans have definitely moved away from his fanbase into newer or fresher pilots. not to say his celebrity/icon status is low, but it’s relevancy has deff diminished within the F1 sphere. even during his height, i think any pushback from lewis or his fans were responded lightly by F1).

and in comparison with nyck, does rbr need another dutch fanbase when mv has dominated the market with his orange sea? no, probably not. and i’m not saying that marketing is the sole reason why it was nyck instead of checo, but this route would’ve given the more palatable or easier situation to contain. rbr has to either placate a ‘no-name’ rookie with little established fanbase, or they have to placate a senior pilot with a regional/continental(?) fanbase and sponsorship (one of them being a billionaire).

Yeah, I think it was always way more likely that Daniel would replace Nyck vs Checo.

As bad at PR as RBR tends to be, for all the reasons that you've stated, there is no way they'd replace Checo mid-season. Especially when he is underperforming but not to the point that they're at risk of losing the constructor title.

Could I see RBR buying out the rest of Checo's contract after this season -- yeah. It would suck for Checo but at least he'd be compensated for it (and could use the money to find another seat etc).

I would give anything to be a fly on the wall at AlphaTauri -- like I'm wondering if there is pressure from the sponsors about the lack of performance etc and Daniel is the solution to that. Because like even if Daniel doesn't get good results (because like the poor man is not a miracle worker, this is not a jab at Daniel), the exposure that the sponsors will get should satisfy them and distract them from AT's horrible horrible car. And RBR/AT has invested lots of time and money into Yuki so ofc Nyck is the obvious choice to get booted.

Chocolategate Analysis

So I’ve seen the theory of Ricky or EJ being the one to deliver the chocolates to Gina in 2.03 floating around online (for Portwells, over the summer) (for Rinas, more recently) and I wanted to add in my two cents just because. 🤷🏽‍♀️ Having re-watched the episode, I deff got some thoughts! Just learned how to add a page break, so keep reading if you want to! 😁

Just to be clear, the audience can’t see who rang the doorbell and delivered the choco, so it very well could be anyone (even EJ or Ricky). However, I don’t think it’s fair to reduce the sweet gesture of Gina receiving chocolates from her mom on Valentine’s Day to any boy. In 2.03, esp in her convo with Ricky, Gina is visibly upset when she thinks her mom actually forgot about their special holiday because, like she said, “My mom’s been my Valentine every yr since I was four.” Because her mom is miles away, for the first time in her life, Gina is forced to celebrate Val Day alone. After talking with her mom on the phone, she feels like her mom forgot about their little Valentine tradition. She seeks comfort in Ricky because, like her, he also has a complicated relationship with his mom and is miles away from her, too. Later that night, the doorbell rings and someone drops off a box of chocolates. Yes, it’s true we can’t see who delivered the box, and it coulda been Ricky or EJ, but that’s not the point. The point is Gina’s mom didn’t forget about her on their special day. Sure, Terri was a little late in getting the gift to her, but ultimately, the chocolates, the sweet gesture Gina was hoping for on that day, was from her mom. 

It’s totally understandable why Gina thought Ricky was the one to get choco for her given the fact she received his text just moments after finding the box, but that’s disproven by the cliffhanger of the episode. Just a few seconds after texting him her thanks, Gina receives a text from her mom, confirming the box of chocolates was from her. It doesn’t really matter who delivered it because the point was to show her mom remembered, despite being busy with work that day. While chocolategate is used to create a bit of Rina angst in 2.04, it’s ultimately used as a plot device to highlight the progression in Gina and Nini’s friendship (2.10-2.12). While Gini are not best friends, they have come a long way since 1.03. There’s a reason why their convo in the dressing room in 2.12 parallels the convo in 1.03. Nini admits the reason why she’s upset about chocolategate is because of trust, not Ricky. Instead of using chocogate to further Rina’s rela, the writers actually show you just how far Gina and Nini have come by the end of the school year (having started out as enemies-S1a, then becoming tentative friends-S1b-2a, to two girls working towards a closer bond-S2b). There’s certainly a possibility chocolategate could come up again to tell us who delivered them in S3, but what matters is Gina’s relationship with the women in her life. Her mom didn’t forget about her, and Nini wants to continue to build a solid friendship based on trust. Sure, it would be great if they revealed Ricky or EJ had been the one to deliver the chocolates (I’m sure the shippers would be thrilled lol 😂), but I don’t think it matters because it’s not about them. 

Sidenote: If we are to reduce chocolategate to being about a boy (which is fair if that’s how you wanna see it!), between EJ and Ricky, I think it’s more likely the former delivered it because he was free that day and would have the time to help Terri if she needed it. In her text to Gina, Terri states, “Found a way to send em last min.” I highly doubt Terri has Ricky’s contact info. Given the fact EJ is Ashlyn’s cousin, it’s possible Terri may have access to the Caswells’ phone numbers in case of emergency. Also, EJ wouldn’t care to take credit for the choco because they’re ultimately not from him (if he was the one to deliver them). He wasn’t public about buying Gina the plane ticket in 1.10 nor did he want credit for Mazzara’s admission into CalTech in 2.12. BUT, it could still be either Ricky or EJ. 🤔 Maybe S3 will provide some answers?       

Just my thoughts given the canon story we have so far. BTW, everyone’s allowed to theorize all they want/what they want leading up to S3. I get how agonizing the wait can be during the hiatus lmao. 😅 Feel free to share your thoughts if you want (anon or otherwise). ♥ Thanks for reading!

🛹 jfc steve spoils her ROTTEN when it comes to toys & love. max can harness the Puppy Dog Eyes & as strong as steve may think he is, he's a sucker for em. they go into the store with the intention of buying five toys, but they walk out with seven & a couple of scoops of ice cream (with robin going "smh dude you've fallen for the puppy dog eyes AGAIN"). steve wouldn't have it any other way

this is going to be rly rambley and maybe not make a lot of sense but okay so out of the main cast i think the ones who are the least safe are jonathan hopper nancy and max. now i don’t want any of them to die other than jonathan (sorry) but i feel like based on their storyline so far i think they’re the most in danger

jonathan is my first choice. i just feel like. what is he even doing. i like him as wills big brother and i think when he’s caring for will that’s when he’s at his best but he doesn’t rly have anything going for him. like he doesn’t have a plan hes not going to college with nancy at least not at the college she wants them both to go to he just feels kind of like. unnecessary to the cast now. like i feel it would be an extremely emotional death obviously for will joyce and nancy and one that would carry weight even after the s5 apparent timeskip. i just think he’s the most obvious choice for a main cast death bc it doesn’t seem like he has a purpose rn and he just Feels doomed and i don’t think the show would lose much if any audience over it

-They are so fucking into your look. Like holy shit?! I feel like Billy is very into the goth look and Stu loves some of the more elaborate clothing pieces.

-You got your eye on some expensive stuff Stu is right there offering to buy it, big fuck off boots, leather or lace or what the fuck ever yeah Stu wants to see you in it. Also loves any makeup you wear. Dark lipstick? Mark him with it, pretty please, loves coming away from a make out session with you looking like a mess.

-Billy would be super into your eye makeup believe it or not, really digs how creative you can get with it. Could totally see him, hand under his chin, leaning on it, casually talking with you, watching you apply it as you get ready to go out.

-Stu loves any extra jewelry you have, keeps trying to steal your rings even though they totally do not fit him, he keeps trying it, like knock it off man?!

-I have said it before and will say it again Billy is so into lingerie. Like SO into it, so if you don’t have any he will totally get in Stu’s ear about how you need some, would find some shit he likes and just talks about how good you would look all wrapped up in this all black, super strappy set he found and just yes.

-Like I could imagine them actually approaching you just for your look, at first it is them just kinda being dicks, I mean the two of them deff DO care what other people think of them heavily and I could see them having weird hang ups about them being with some alt at first and the attention it might bring but as soon as they get to know you a smidge better that goes out the window.

-They can sell it with that classic confidence and anyone who tries to give them shit over it can get fucked.

-Also I could fully see Stu asking if you wanted to fuck in a cemetary at some point. “Mary Shelly lost her virginity on her mothers grave you know-” like he sure as fuck isn’t subtle but at least he is honest.

Point is, they are both very down. Would also try to take an interest in yours too, give whatever music you are into a really good try, no promise tho.
