"Nagi? Did you fall asleep again?"

Nagi's eyes flutter open, not remembering a single thing from the history lesson that just took place. He most definitely did fall asleep, but Nagi knows that Reo didn't even have to ask him that. His best friend can read him like a book, the absence of Nagi's foot anxiously tapping waiting for class to end indicated his slumber to him.

Nagi looks up at Reo, who is in front of him with purple eyes shining with both admiration and satisfaction that he was able to awaken him. He always looked like this, and the sparkle in his eyes that seemed to ever only be for him made Nagi's heart beat just a little faster at times.

"Yeah, yeah. I'm up. School just ended, right? I can go back to sleep than at home..."

Reo slams his hand down on Nagi's desk, slightly startling him.

"No way! You've slept enough, let's go out and play some soccer while we have time. We can stop by the store for snacks as well so don't back out on me!"

Nagi sighs. Reo knew just how to bribe him: with snacks. But deep down, Nagi knew that there didn't need to be snacks involved. Reo's company was enough.

He didn't know why, but something about Reo made him feel safe and special. As he grabbed his belongings and walked side by side with Reo to exit school, he wondered just why he felt this way.

Perhaps it was the way that while most of Nagi's friends gravitated towards other people over time, Reo never minded hanging out with just him. He had seen it multiple times: Reo turning down study sessions and after-school outings to play soccer and spend time with Nagi without a second thought. Reo rarely told Nagi no unless it was truly an outrageous idea (like the time Nagi proposed to stay at the arcade until he won the top prize).

Perhaps it was the way that Reo was like his second pair of eyes. Reo was always there for Nagi when he was hungry, when he was tired, when he needed a pick me up, and especially when he needed help in soccer. Nagi didn't even need to ask: Reo was always there for him.

The question of "why" rang through Nagi's mind throughout the entire soccer practice. Maybe it was because he didn't know why Reo liked his company so much. He had money, assets, connections... why did he choose to hang out with a simpleton like himself?

"Nagi! You good?"

Nagi snapped out of his thoughts to see Reo with the soccer ball under his foot. His hair was swept up in his signature high ponytail, slightly damp with sweat and his chest heaved slightly as he tried to get his heart rate down. His cheeks were flushed and he was obviously tired but, as always, his eyes lit up so bright looking at him.

And that made Nagi's heart flutter. Just a little bit.

"Yeah. I'm good."

Reo patted him on the back as they continued their practice but Nagi tried to shift his gaze away to keep his best friend from seeing the rising blush on his face. Nagi realized that he felt so safe with Reo because, in Reo's eyes, they were equals. They were so different but when together, they just worked.

Nagi didn't want to let that go. He didn't want the day to come when Reo would leave him and never come back. He always wanted those shining purple eyes inviting him wherever, whenever. He wanted the cold winter days drinking hot chocolate and staying in watching movies as well as the hot summer days at the soccer field.

He thought about what else he could experience with Reo. Could they travel the world together? He had always wanted to visit America, a place Reo knew enough of to show him around properly. Could they live together and enjoy each others company all the time? The thought made Nagi'is heart race, but it sounded nice.

He wanted Reo to himself. It would truly be hard to live without him.

The more Nagi thought, the more he realized just how many of his future plans had Reo in them. Reo had a special place in his heart and Nagi didn't have the words to describe it to him just how much he meant to him.

He wished that one day, maybe soon and maybe not, he could muster up the words and properly tell Reo just how much he cares.
