INCREDIBLY LONG INCOHERENT TAGS RANT INCOMING FAIR WARNING HAS BEEN GIVEN:#it makes me so so sad how little discussion there is about specifically ikuko because imho she fits so neatly into a lot of the more #overarching Big Themes of the game in a way that i have not ever really seen people take notice of or point out in a meaningful way #like even just off of the top of my head. the significance of names and what it means to go by a name that's Not Yours (she has like 4+)#what it Means to be a witch how it represents a person's deepest insecurities and flaws & how its at its core a coping mechanism #the fact that it takes two to create a universe and trying to do it on your own anyways has the capacity to bring you intense misery #^ (how she's shown to be extremely dismissive of her own work and skill until a collaborator comes into her life and helps/encourages her)#and even the family/patriarchy/misogyny stuff that is so prevalent in the rest of the game comes back around to her. even her Only Friend #(young&stupid atp to be fair) remarks that shes Weird for being unmarried + the little she does say about her past invites the question of #to what extent her self-image stems from her family deeming her a freak outcast & effectively disowning her while celebrating her brothers #and i have lot in my mind about the witch thing specifically because i think her particular situation is very reflective of what umineko's #entire magic system and fantasy facet as a whole is meant to represent for an individual. from what little we see of (what is presumably)#her Real personality she is shown to be deeply self conscious in a way that is JARRINGLY diametrically opposed to both 1.) what we see in #featherine and 2.) what we see when she is acting as a Public Figure. because both of the above are very much purposeful acts that she is #putting on in order to obfuscate her true self. and i have always been very resolute & adamant about not totally equating her to featherine #not only because im very firmly in the camp of “featherine is the avatar of the Pen Name & tohya is part of her too” but also very much b/c #i feel very strongly that the stark differences between the two are very centrally relevant to her character & her psyche. as is the case #with most other witches featherine's personality traits serve to reveal/magnify a lot of ikukos inner workings by playing on her #insecurities/reversing them e.g. ikuko being very quick to downplay her skill/achievements becomes featherine being the COMPLETE opposite #to the point where she barely registers even other witches as living beings rather than just fun touys. BUT even though i do champion the #ikuko/featherine separation so hard i ALSO think it is purposefully relevant that at first glance the line between them seems so blurry #her introduction implying a more nebulous separation between her reality/fantasy counterpart is i think is an intentional move on her part #like it is part of the front she is putting up when acting as the Author. as opposed to Ikuko the person who we (in a way ironically very #similar to the way that the Real Battler is presumably only shown during the boatscene) only very briefly get to see take up screentime #which even on a meta level lines up very well with her apparent underlying nature as a like. extremely private largely reserved/shy person #hit tag limit but if by some miracle anyone is still reading this thank you... please see ikuko with the love she deserves... ok ily byeee

1. How stupidly open Star Wars canon is.

2. An extremely stubborn form of optimism.

3. That red herrings only work if the real answer is more satisfying than the distraction, and the fact is that not only did we not get any answer AT ALL, but no one involved will actually straight up say it was a misdirect or what we were being misdirected from or even acknowledge there being any direction at all, meaning it was either the world’s most badly executed red herring, or it wasn’t a red herring at all/we just don’t have the actual answer yet.

4. The fact that Tech isn’t a real person, he’s an idea, meaning I don’t have to accept jack shit. Especially when canon has done so little to actually convince me he’s gone for good and it’s so markedly different than every other loss in the show.

#the bad batch #tech lives #I’m sorry I know I’m probably being annoying about this #one thing that would be really funny #if it turns out we were right about Tech coming back but wrong on the timeline #(whether the timeline was always longer or whether the timeline got moved)#is if everyone involved just hoped no one would notice any of the hints #or any of the foreshadowing #or any of the whatever with CX-2 #until after they actually bring him back #not that people wouldn’t notice but that they’d be too deep in their feels #about plan 99 #and too set in the ‘tech is gone’ paradigm #to do anything but blip over all of that #and write it off as coincidence #because that’s the thing: if you were convinced by the falling scene itself #you are going to blip over anything that might hint otherwise #because it doesn’t fit #same visa versa #except in terms of scale #except that a lot of people did notice because we were desperate #I think if nothing else they vastly underestimated the depth of the reaction #and how hard people would be looking for clues

#ao no exorcist #shima renzou #my art #work in progress #most random art ive created #I originally had a diff idea for Renzou..#but noticed I was doing the pose wrong but I was too lazy to change my trajectory and thought would be okay might as well continue #since I wanted to apply what I recently learned in art and ahaha… I was happy with my progress and was like. okay lets do more cleaner drawo #drawover… then I found myself trying to shade it… which was hard since ahaha I haven’t at all really prac that… and then… I was like. okay #I have this what am I supposed to do with it?!#and tried to make some kind of idea but hard…#it turned into this yukishima idea now LOL #it’s kind of thinking idea for it but also my god I spent hours adjusting the colour/brightness cuz my god why does everything I draw #intially be so dark…. pls….#and was exhausted as heck after that session like lol the AMOUNT of adjusting I kept doing after I thought I was finished with it is sooo #crazy. but coming back after leaning it for like hours with fresh eyes was good cuz I was like. Once I figured out what to do with this prompt, I was super excited to write! so thank you @flashfictionfridayofficial for the awesome prompt! :D

Daughter, like her classmates murmuring excitedly beneath Them, knew the legend well. The story of how They started with nothing and, against everyone's beliefs, worked their way up and out. And was, for some reason, back to bestow their wisdom. Or so they had professed.

So daughter listened with yawning ears and a starved heart, hoping to deign on the roadmap They so graciously wanted to provide. Keenly at first, before doubt whispered on her shoulder, quickly followed by unsettling disbelief.

By the end of the sermon, while others asked for further guidance, daughter had only really learnt one thing.

Having gone through the original Urusei Yatsura anime twice in full and currently nearing the end of my third rewatch (just going through the episodes I like this time... which is admittedly still most of it lol), I thought it'd be fun to put together a chart on how I'd personally categorize the evolution and different parts of the show.

This is by no means supposed to be an "objective and definitive" categorization or anything. I just wanted to list out in broad strokes how I see the show based on what I've observed and what I feel from it.

#urusei yatsura #Despite what I call “The Golden Era” taking place in the middle of the show's run & despite “The Slump” that happens after it I do think -#- that the collection of episodes surrounding what I consider to be the peak of the show are still great overall.#I also wanna say that I think it's a testament to the skill & hard work of the staff that despite having to split attention between the -#- show & 4 movies it only ever impacted the show twice resulting in those slumps -#- & even despite that they still managed to produce some good & even great episodes during those downturns.#I'm especially impressed by the slump in the back half since although I would consider it worse than the first one -#- they had so much more working against them and yet they still managed to put out good & great stuff and turned things around by the end.#Sorry for rambling but last thing in case anyone notices is that I didn't include the Inaba & Nagisa OVAs cause I don't really like them &-#- I originally had them in a trash bin in the image but I didn't want to be too mean spirited so I just left them out.#No judgment on anyone who likes those characters and OVAs! I'm just really not a fan of them at all.

#Biggest take away from the episode: @fandom Dazai can't be Atsushi's father figure if he himself says Atsushi's father figure is the–#headmaster check your facts #Second biggest take away from the episode: the worst thing the headmaster transmitted Atsushi ought to be the terrible haircut choices #Mmmmhhh I could spend another whole tag rant to talk about how much I dislike the writing of Lucy in this episode 😭😭😭#But I worry I'll start being perceived as someone who hates women if I do so I won't.#(But let me just say. I really really *really* despite the “what women [alien and mysterious beings] want is hard to understand and–#impossible to decipher and more often than not they will say the exact opposite of what they mean” stereotype.#Like I hate it to an intimate extent.)#I quite like Kyouka's backstory!! I feel like she's the most fleshed out female character with a compelling character arc and personality.#I really like her. Lucy and Atsushi working as make-do parents (very largerly intended. More like siblings who are dating but that sounds–#even worse) was very cute. And I appreciate how the events seemed to set off Atsushi's own reflection on parenthood.#The same doesn't happen in the manga since the chapters are placed in a different order.#Overall this is just an episode that when I was reading the manga for the first time solidified my understanding that me and b/sd have #RADICALLY different views on the world. But now that after three years and having long come to terms with it.#I suppose it's just something that's there.#Ususal notes about the animation just for talks. The lack of budget really shows this episode and in the second half in particular.#It's especially noticeable in backgrounds that are just... Not the stunning backgrounds that usually make b/sd's anime strong point.#So in turn the lack of details comes off as twice as evident as it normally would :/#The whole Atsushi / Tanizaki exchange at the start of the chapter until the headmaster's identity is revealed is completely devoid–#of host which has me just?? What happened here??? A track slowly building up tension is an almost automatic choice I'm just like.#What happened. If it was a deliberate choice it was a very bad one in my humble opinion #On a more positive note I really like whoever drew the characters “background appearence” this episode eheh #(you know‚ the more stylized one when they're not on close up)#And the drawings at the end of the episode daz/atsu twilight scene were good. Okay this excerpt is super late night notes and not a narrative at all, so a) don't get hung up on the wording and b) I don't know if this will come across the same way it does in my head -- but this is the latest character discovery in my fic that is making me lose my mind:

(Context: Maris has kicked Niles out for fic-specific reasons, set somewhere in early S2 timeline)

Daphne’s witnessed a lot of men after they were dumped. It seemed one or another of her brothers were always pissing off the woman they were dating or they found out their girlfriend was messing around on them. Regardless of who was at fault, her brothers all reacted the same way: by partying harder, flirting more, and talking shit about the now-ex-girlfriend. Niles doesn’t breathe a word against his wife.

*deep inhale to steady myself* I really like writing Daphne's POV, you guys.

#Now that I'm two thirds of the way through chapter 2 I've learned I do have more Niles POV scenes than I feared #But I still feel like I don't have very many scenes showing him falling in love with Daphne #But since this is fic where we all know he's in love with her #and because we only got Niles's POV on their relationship during the early years of the show #I'm not particularly worried about this #Like would it be nice to have things more balanced? Sure #But I fear I'd be repeating the show too much by adding more of Niles's POV #Whereas Daphne's POV offers me so much room to really dig deep into their relationship #Because the things she notices and how she interprets Niles's actions are so FASCINATING to me #I'm just absolutely loving the character discoveries that come out of writing fic #Because I kind of thought about how Daphne must have viewed Niles's relationship with Maris before #and how seeing him being so loyal to his wife would've been a point in his favor even if Daphne didn't personally like Maris #But taking that and contrasting it with what she would've been used to seeing from her brothers and other guys she knew #and suddenly this really amps up the significance of Niles's loyalty #Because yes you can point out that Niles fell for Daphne instantly and that money played a role in why he stayed with Maris for so long #and neither of those things are very loyal #But Maris also has a very specific hold on Niles that has nothing to do with money #and that also plays a very big role in why he stays with her for so long and tries so hard to make their marriage work #And from Daphne's perspective his feelings for Maris plays the *biggest* role in why he fights to make it work for that long #and that in turn influences *her* feelings for Niles #and idk okay I just REALLY like digging into the why and how of a character #and writing Daphne's POV lets me do that in spades 😍

#personal shit below the tags #just venting about getting dragged into high school drama as an adult #which is my fault because i help coach a high school dance team #long story short my best friend is moving out of the state and won't be coaching next year #and is trying to set it up so i take over as head coach #but she was talking to two of the kids about it today to give them a preliminary heads up and #they straight up said that if the current assistant coach gets the job #none of the team will be going back #but that if i get the job everyone will come back #this grown ass woman has thought i've been trying to take her assistant coach job all year #when i have been perfectly happy as a volunteer #and this whole thing was extremely validating and such a bummer all at once because like #i just won't engage with the drama she's been trying to bring and it bums me out that the kids have noticed it #i've been trying really hard to stay professional in front of them and thought i was doing a good job #i HAVE been doing a good job #but the captain knows what i'm like as a coach because i was her head coach her freshman year and so she's noticed the difference in me #so yeah incredibly validating because every time i've been down this year about this #i've been like 'they know which of us is here for THEM and not the STATUS'#and it turns out i was correct this whole time #they DO know and they have been feeling it which is the last thing i wanted for them #so yeah validating and a bummer all at once #we'll find out within the next couple weeks if i will still be coaching next year #every time i vent about this i feel like i'm trying to sound like i have the moral high ground #it gives me the ick about myself
