it's been a week and i still haven't recovered </3 so i did a little sketch with this scene between normal and scary because it fucked me up and i need more moments of them comforting and caring for each other

“Well damn.” 

Jason wrenched his gaze from the mess of red and green spattered across the room, searching for the source of the voice. His head hurt, he wanted his Dad. He wanted Bruce. He… his head hurt. His everything hurt. 

“Honestly, didn’t expect them to find another half-breed. Didn’t think there was another halfa out there…”  

He tore his gaze away from the floor- when had it gotten there- finally finding the other… person? The person giving him an empty smile through some sort of muzzle and missing an entire arm. Well, he couldn’t judge, he’d torn his nails off while digging out of his grave before… this. 

“Hey, kid, don’t sweat it, it’ll grow back,” the man apparently noticed where he was staring, shoulder twitching as he shrugged and more green pouring out. Jason couldn’t stop staring, eyes slipping from the growing pool to the rest of the chains apparently keeping the person on that side of the… room? Cage? Cell? 

“Shit, hey, kid, kid, don’t cry, uh, fuck, shh, kid don’t cry-” the person made a noise, some sort of hum or croon that caused him to relax. To his already brain-damaged confusion. “C’mere, away from the door now, shh…” 

Oh, when had he started to move? It was like he blinked and was stumbling away towards the chained person, practically tripping over a limb before the person managed to catch him. “Ope, oh you’re just a little baby-” a hand, clawed, carefully ran through his hair, tucking him against a rumbling chest that nearly made him tear up again. He wanted Bruce. 

“It’s alright kid, shh, they won’t get you,” the man rumbled, everything about him green to his rapidly closing eyes. Pale skin like a corpse, black scales like rot, hair white like snow, all stained green with blood.  “They’d have to kill me again for that.”

While rereading mdzs I am once again shocked by how talked about the "you were the only mistake he ever made" line from Lan Xichen to Wei Wuxian is and how heated it gets some people because honestly... I don't think he actually even believes that.

Stay with me. Look at the actual line. (I Included 2 translations for comparison's sake)

Firstly, yes he is mad at Wei Wuxian in this scene. But his biggest moment of anger was actually before this. By this point he's realized that Wei Wuxian forgot what happened after nightless city (and therefore ISN'T stringing along his baby brother on purpose) so he has in fact calmed down a bit.

Secondly, notice that he starts by talking about how his uncle felt. This is not Lan Xichen making a value statement about what he thinks. When he says Lan Wangji was proper and righteous he is talking about him being a model lan, he's talking about their family and clan's perspective of Wangji. Indeed, in their eyes, Wei Wuxian is the only time Lan Wangji was ever not the textbook perfect Lan.

Thirdly, what is Lan Xichen trying to say here? What is he mad at Wei Wuxian for? It's that he doesn't know Lan Wangji is in love with him. His anger is eased by realizing Wei Wuxian doesn't remember the very blatant confessions lwj made in the cave after nightless city, or Lan Wangji fighting his own clan elders for Wei Wuxian, and so had no way of knowing the whipmarks on Lan Wangji's back were related to him. But he is still mad, he still thinks Wei Wuxian should have been able to figure it out. So what does he highlight?

The fact that the only thing Lan Wangji, perfect model-Lan righteous Lan Wangji, ever defies his clan for is Wei Wuxian.

And Wei Wuxian has seen him do this! Even if he doesn't remember this one instance. Because Lan Wangji has been doing that the whole story through. Wei Wuxian has watched Lan Wangji blatantly stand against the entire cultivation world for him, and here Lan Xichen is highlighting just how unusual that is, how much Wei Wuxian must mean to Lan Wangji that he's willing to do that. The important part of the sentence here is not "mistake" it's "only."

Lan Xichen here isn't trying to say that he disapproves of Wei Wuxian, or telling him to stay away from his brother. Remember, the thing that made him mad in the first place was Wei Wuxian saying that he and Lan Wangji slept in seperate rooms. He thought they were together! He's mad because they're not!

At no point does Lan Xichen say he individually considers Lan Wangji's feelings for Wei Wuxian a mistake. If he ever did, it's clear he accepted them regardless long ago. Mistake or not, what he wants is for his little brother to be happy.

they put my tiny baby boy to sleep today. they took him away from me he was my whole wide world and more without him I'd have killed myself thrice over in the last 8 years he was my everything he was so good and loving and sometimes so endearingly stupid and headstrong and lazy he loved his little boxies and scratches behind his ears and he let me hold his paw but hated when I did it to his tiny feeties he is the very best boy there ever was and idk how to exist in a world without him in it he used to follow me from room to room like a dumb idiot tiny dog and even when I was so depressed I didn't think I'd get out of bed he was always there always making me feel not alone and now he's gone. those are the last pictures I took of my idiot baby boy in his boxy. I just wanted someone to know that I love him more than the whole wide world and I'll never not miss him and that i love him and love him and love and everywhere I look is a place he isn't anymore and it makes me wanna end it all. I love you so much forever

I used to not like batman bc he was the epitome of dudebro edgy comic guy, like a Deadpool fan but like... Worse, but after Pattinson turned him into an awkward antisocial pathetic man I have come to reconsider.

I think he's fun as long as he's not this hypermasculine grumpy man and instead a guy that writes goth poetry and wears so much eyeliner that he looks like a raccoon and hates talking to people so he just stands around threateningly barely saying anything, and also he's a dad who grew up almost completely in a mansion after experiencing major trauma who chronically adopts fucked up kids and teaches them how to throw a punch. I think that is cool. Like he's still so emotionally repressed but he loves his kids and it's messy but ultimately he's good. People just think he's secretly a vampire or a demon but he's really just a college dropout with several unidentifiable issues and one of them is Too Much Money.

I'm thinking so much about how different Poll and Tequilla's life experiences are and how thats going to affect them both

Like, Poll was adopted WAY earlier than was intended. They had gone through all the tests when they were very young and then put on ice until they were needed for an adoption event, of which they never got to because their papa found them not even an hour after being thawed out! Then, living with Stardust, they traveled around the world for a while before being forced to settle down so it could take care of it's baby properly. Poll was raised in what was basically a nonverbal household with not much supervision, they barely even used signs when they were younger because it just wasn't necessary after a while.

Even more, Poll is VERY sheltered by egg standards. They've never experienced a death (anothers or their own), they've never been in a fight, or been in danger from the Federation. They've always lived away from all of that and had their papa to protect them.

Tequilla on the other hand? He never traveled from home much, having 4 doting parents to take care of him, but he DID experience the horrors of the island. He's even died! Sure he doesn't remember any of this, but it still happened. He has fighting instincts, poisonous color schemes. You can see dozens of signs littered through his childhood home, untouched. His parents protected him with everything they had and mourned him when he died.

Like I seriously didn't plan for such a perfect contrast between these kids but. it. WORKS.

Poll is a great talker but a bad writer, Tequilla is the opposite. Poll had one parent while Tequilla had four. Poll has their memories but is entirely unequiped to deal with what life is trying to throw their way, while Tequilla knows how to fight away the dangers but can no longer even remember what the dangers ARE. Poll who looks like themself, Tequilla who looks like his parents. Orange and blue, round and sharp, sun and moon, earth and stars.

okay. so. i did not vibe with the latest doctor who episode a lot? and idk why exactly. i did still enjoy it for the most part! do love that we're getting more explicit queer romance on the show, but idk it didn't feel...genuine? especially with the doctor saying that ruby's his best friend but then abandoning her to aliens for most of the episode. i'm like really feeling that the overarching plot must be about storytelling. like especially all the blatant references to bridgerton INCLUDING the bad guys and poker face covers. and the teaser line about it being the doctor's life they're playing out. i'm hoping that the arc is kind of about how something (pantheon character?) is kind of controlling the doctor/ruby's story to hit the beats it's supposed to bc its tv but is doing so in a non-organic way which is why the season feels so disjointed and very telling-not-showing. also the weird 6 month time jump between Space Babies and Boom. otherwise i'mgonna feel like it was just kind of poorly written. like! to be clear! i am still enjoying the show! but not as much as i have other seasons

drew a bunch this year, i keep forgetting i did that bear inspired zine!!! and an eddie munson queen ii cover art inspired lino print wowza. scanned 3 years worth of sketchbooks that i still need to make available on my kofi shop 🫡 here's hoping 2024 will be filled with plenty of cool projects (and that i'll finally be able to manage to pull out the sketchbook pdfs lol)
