*I am a music prof (predominantly classical vocalist), and I LOVE listening to Cillian’s music choices! That being said, sometimes I won’t like a song simply because of a vocalist (it’s a professional hazard - sorry!) 👩‍🏫

🎵Set 1 (Makondi - Theme from Failure)

Makondi: percussion makes me so happy! 😊 no specific thoughts other than there needs to be more percussion songs heard in the mainstream.

Hey Dostla!: ok but the background rhythm reminds me of the “Lip Gloss” song by Lil Mama and that’s all I hear now 😂

Theme from Failure: I like the gradual building of rhythmic layers. Again, definitely inspired by minimalist/tape looping technology from the ‘60s. More importantly, this song had me rolling! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

The Family: this is sooooo “trendy” for Nina! I need to listen to more of her discography rather than singles. I’m not sure how often she went more “pop” than jazz, and now I wanna know.

Please Don’t Go: Stevie!!!!! 😍😍 his voice is sooooo smooth! I could just listen to him all the time. And I like the chord qualities in this piece - it’s not an out-of-the-box chord progression, but it’s also not cookie cutter. There’s depth to what he gives without it going overboard.

Irma Talks: yes!! 😂

Time Is On My Side: I looooove this song! I think this is a very singable range (I know that sounds weird, but a lot of songs today are in difficult ranges for most of the population. This is pretty accessible).

🎵Set 3 (Come Down Easy - Kim’s Sunsets)

Come Down Easy: patterned off early rock, for sure! It’s even got that whiny/tinny vocal tracking. The weird drone is cool! Idk how to describe it other than the sound of the wind when you’re driving with your car windows rolled down 😅😂

Kim’s Sunsets: interesting harmonies, but I hate the vocal qualities here! 😖😖😖 I like it instrumentally, but vocally, this is an ick!

Boys and the Sea: I LOVE THIS SO MUCH! The piano sounds almost like French Classical music (a lot of artistic sharing between the French and Russians at one point), and the seagull call recording is so haunting! I kinda wanna watch this film just from listening to this!

Muscle de sable: also a piece featuring random recorded sound clips! Much more modern sounding.

One Word: this is pretty fun!!! 😎 no thoughts, just synth vibes!

Secret Teardrops: I find it interesting that the vocal line is less prominent than the instruments. 🤔 granted, this is not a super skillful vocal line…

Can I Call You: why is this spooky??? 😰 in other news, the way the expected chord progression is constantly diverted is cool! And even the structure of the song keeps going in unexpected places. Well-done, but somehow reminds me of Halloween spooky times. 👍

Bertie: I’m trying to decide if this deserves the term “baroque.” 🤔 Maybe? Most baroque music is polyphonic, and this is still distinctly homophonic. However, it might could qualify for “early baroque inspired” (circa 1600) with the choice of instruments and emphasis on text. I do like this! Definitely agree with the term “jaunty”

Theme de l’eau: I do often associate flute music with Japanese styles (and some of the non-Western scales), but this also has a Mediterranean feel to it (guitar), and somehow French as well (accordion). Again, there’s a lot of cultural ties between France and Japan, so that’s not super surprising. Yeah. I wanna see what this film is about! I’m curious!

Prayer and Procession: has some Chopin funeral March vibes to it, as well as Protestant chorale/hymn elements.

I thought he was supposed to be “lowering my heart rate” - psh! I call BS!

20190127: my slightly number dyslexic self hated writing out that title. 🤦‍♀️ anyway, this is MUCH more relaxing of a piece! Another great example of using recorded elements in music. I like how the tones fade in and out like the tide (heard at the beginning I think).

Crescent of Sun: it’s almost like chamber music at the beginning. I’m wondering if the sun is going down or up. The instrument voicing gets higher (indicating upward motion), but the melodic motif goes down. Huh. Interesting!

Did you listen to the songs from Papas or encargo? Jorge's voice is so good there I would love to if you make a vocal analysis

I had not listened to them until you sent this ask, then I put the playlist on for my commute to work (blindly trusting you) and I can honestly say that this is a marvelous bunch of songs! Aahhhh! Absolutely stunning! So rhythmic, the Latina in me can out and had me swaying the whole time. I’m listening to s2 now.

Now for Jorge Blanco’s voice.

Non-technical analysis:😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍! I knew it, I knew he could sing in his lower register!!! I just about wept when I was singing along and I had to go really deep into my chest voice to hit a note, I was in my vocal fry yall. I had a hard time figuring out which voice was his at first because there’s a noticiable difference between León (when Jorge was 19-21) and now. Not too crazy but enough that it took me a while. His voice is still smooth and clear. And the two guys he sings with aren’t slouches either, they are on very equal footing in terms on power. And they blend well so there were times I couldn’t tell where Jorge began and Lalo or Michael ended.

Technical analysis: This is his sweet spot y’all, Jorge is like late 20s, 30 or something yeah? I would hazard to say that his voice has possibly maybe reached its peak. It is so smooth and rich like velvet.

His middle register - where he sang a majority of his Violetta songs - is distinct. He has that pingy quality still as a tenor. You can really hear him and his brightness and pingyness in Cerca or Me Gusta but mainly Cerca. His runs are once again flawless.

Whether this is his character in Papás por Encargo or his own stylistic approach idk but I noticed that his vocals are more distressed this time around for certain songs. There is more a growl or rasp to his voice, I like it. And he balances it out with his smooth velvety tones, he never does too much growl.

He’s still a powerhouse of a singer and his breath control is wonderful, he’s making good use of his diaphragm when it comes to sustaining notes and firing out lyrics quickly.

His placement in his mask is good too. There’s none of that choked and trapped sound that happens when you sing from the throat but everything is happening in the mask as it should which is important ESPECIALLY for high notes in his head voice.

Speaking of which, his high notes are great. When he gets into his head voice for Aunque no estés for example, it’s seamless and very strong. Crystal clear.

His low notes, y’all😍 I’m so happy that he’s singing in his lower register for more than 2 words in this because it really showcases his range. Amor se escribe con llanto does a good job of giving him lows to hit and he remains strong throughout it instead of puttering off. He keeps them clear and they don’t sound muddy. Low notes require more breath than high notes so it is easy to let them get weak and muddy in an effort to hit the note simply because you didn’t keep the air while singing.

I noticed he has a tendency to not drop his jaw which would give his singing a rounder sound. Instead, Jorge seems to keep his mouth in the “short i vowel position” but this could actually be because of the Spanish words🤷🏻‍♀️ He does seem to pull his mouth back for some notes instead of pushing it all forward into his mask but I’m not 100%. This is something he does in Violetta too if I’m not mistaken. It doesn’t ruin his vocals or anything, he still sounds wonderful, it’s just something I noticed really in Papás por encargo because Lalo really puts his singing forward in his mask.

ooooo (not including years for anonymity purposes but this is in order)

-> FNAF was the first fandom I joined. Basic ik 😔 I never actually got really into it so if you ask me about the lore I will not be able to tell you 90% of it.

-> Okay I didn’t start doing fandom stuff online until about 2 months ago but I learned of its existence around this time so I’m gonna pop Descendants here. GOD I remember being so hyped for D3 and going to watch it with my squad of friends as a leaving party for one of them 😭 Night Falls, Its Goin’ Down, Chillin’ like a Villain and Whats My Name still hit hard. They have earned their spot in my musical playlist. (Also, I am proud to say I have been a Jaylos shipper since the womb. Although only recently did I consider Jarrlos. Back then I didn’t know polyamory existed)

-> BTS was a hell of a journey. Actually I don’t even know if this counts because I never interacted with the fandom online I just did a whole bunch of stuff to do with it with a small circle of friends.

-> Same with BTS, I never did anything online to do with Warrior Cats until way later in my life. So I ain’t sure if this counts but yeah Warrior Cats was a MASSIVE part of my life for ages omg. They could never make me hate you Hollyleaf

-> I didn’t play my first proper Pokemon game until maybe… 6 years ago? Before that I played Pokemon Legends (the fangame that came before Legends Arceus, which funnily enough also focused on Arceus) to DEATH. My Typhlosion was like level 112. It was insane. And I remember fixating on getting a 3Ds to play my first real pokemon game (Which would be Pokemon Sun) for SO LONG it was like the No.1 thing that mattered. I remember coming out of a SURGERY and immediately thinking and talking about Pokemon Sun to my parents. It was crazy. And when I finally got it it DID NOT DISAPPOINT AT ALL. Still my favourite Pokemon game of all time <3

I was getting into marine biology and I caught myself thinking of this show again and I thought “Ykw? Lets rewatch it. For nostalgia purposes” and then boom I have an emotional attachment to a pirate cat and his green rabbit friend. Its insane. This fandom is one of the best I have ever had the pleasure of being in. Everyone here is so sweet and talented and although there are few of us there is still so much content???? Its so insane y’all are dedicated frfr.

-> LOST has absolutely taken over my life. And I’m not even done with the series 😭 Im on season 3 rn and my god this show is fken brilliant. My mum introduced it to me when I asked her what the weirdest thing she’s ever watched was (I think I know what she means now) and I just. Absolutely fell flat on the floor because the pilot episodes are so fking good its so insane???? They instantly draw you in its crazy. The amount of times I have finished watching an episode with my jaw on the floor is not okay. I honestly cannot imagine watching this when it first aired because I think I would lose my mind waiting for the next episode 😭 Every single main character has a very special slot in the brain because they are all so. So very cool (Or maybe they are little weirdos. Which is good too) oh I physically need to hug Desmond Hume by the way I love that man so much aurguageuaguageuahgehdg,,, So far I’ve transmitted the Lost virus to one (1) other person (my best friend) so far and she’s losing her mind over Locke and Sawyer. She’s a real one for that. Another friend told me that if I watch Book of Mormon and ATLA I shall be repaid in Lost watching which is a hell of a deal. Oh also my homeroom teacher heard me talking about Lost and he was so shocked that I knew what it was and when he asked me for my favourite character and I answered with Desmond his face immediately turned into complete unsurprise (is that a word?) and he said very slowly and critically “Of course you like the Scottish man, you patriot”

-> I’ve lately been really into musical theatre, but my favourite has GOT to be Newsies. Every SINGLE one of the songs are bangers and all the characters are amazing. Special shoutout to Racetrack Higgins and Katherine Pulitzer my beloveds.

Kinda a playlist for y’all if you like chase Atlantic lol … also I saw that people liked my “The neighborhood’s one for hip-hop unit “ so I did another for all members and chase Atlantic as they are another group I like.

Scoups : Paranoid, this song with heavy hip hop inspiration, makes me feel like it kinda fit Seungcheol charisma as a leader. Idk like I can imagine a bomb ass edit about scoups with that song and his powerful aura 🤷🏻‍♀️

Jeonghan: Meddle about, this song is heavily flirty just like Jeonghan. It kinda vibes with the flirty but mischievous side of Jeonghan. This song makes me think of him, because I can imagine him just teasing his crush and mess a bit with their mind (not in a harmful way) but just to tease you and build the tension between you two. The lyrics can represent either yours or his frustration to the tension :p

Joshua : Oh mami (ft Maggie Lindemann), Joshua as a professional racer (?) concept 😌 this concept fits Joshua and so the song. I just feel like the concept of Joshua driving fast cars and being cocky is hot on him. That’s the only reason I chose that song for him 😭😭😭 Also the lyrics are hot and I feel like it fits Joshua flirty side of him.

Wonwoo : Love isn’t Easy, this song gives me an ethereal vibe. The moment I listened the song it gave me wonwoo vibe idk why 😭, like his calm self. I feel like if you broke up with him or had a discussion about a bad experience with love, he would answer calmly . Idk this song is like a safe place, and Wonwoo is my safe place so you get my pattern 😣. Woozi: Drugs & Money, this song has a more calm vibe to it without losing its rock(?) side. I chose that song for Woozi, because it kinda talks about struggles and love. In Woozi songs we can found those themes and I thought of him with this song. Maybe he would enjoy this song and like the lyrics. Well I do, and I love Woozi so I’m winning in both 🤪 lmao

Mingyu: Friends, for my previous about post about The neighborhood I also put a song linked to being friend with mingyu, and I’m doing it again. Mingyu in my head is the perfect model for friend to lover, you can’t tell me this songs doesn’t give off Mingyus vibe. He’s so social and flirty, this song feels like being in love with Mingyu but you realize he’s like that with everyone and you’re nothing special, just a friend .

The8: Moonlight, this songs has a chill vibe to it, it’s laid back but nostalgic. I think it fits Minghao because I can imagine having a good time with him and a cool late night with him. Having fun and laughing, walking hands in hands. Car ride at night after a fancy dinner, all dressed pretty.

Dokyeom: Okay, Dk is a hot mfk and some people turn a blind eye to it because he’s funny asf. “Okay” is like my go to song for chase Atlantic. The song is confident and attractive like DK and honestly, he shines on stage because of this. Dk is extremely charismatic too, that’s why this song just fits him 🤷🏻‍♀️

Vernon: No friend, this song is so fun and it has a more rock alternative vibe to it that ressemble Vernon’a taste in my opinion. If I had to go for a song for him, it would be this one. It’s one of my fave song from Chase Atlantic 😌💅

Seungkwan: Slow down, for this song I was going for Seungkwan hot and attractive side to him. Often people sees seungkwan as a soft ball and I do too, but I think he’s a someone really assertive when he wants to and that makes him hot. He knows what he wants and if he wants you, he will get you. This song is kinda like a tease because it’s feeling someone else to slow down and they will control the situation, and I’m a believer Seungkwan is a top and likes to take control. So for that Seungkwan is Slow down of chase Atlantic.

Chan: Swim, the song is hot and I feel like it represent Dino as he often goes for body rolls when he does free style dancing and the song vibe fits body rolls 😭😭it just a sexy/confident song and that fit Dino’s vibe. 😌
