i just feel like either take that kant OR bison don’t have any real feelings for the other is just kind. a boring way to look at it honestly gskdkejf like oh, kant feels nothing for bison at all, he hated all the pain play, he is PURELY doing all of this to get info and nothing more? okay… that’ll sure suck for bison but clearly he’s got no stake in the game with bison beyond possible death, like you really think he feels no personal conflict over it?? how BORINGGGGG.

and alternatively oh bison is just toying with him/totally masterminding the WHOLE situation? he doesn’t feel anything real for kant, there’s no genuineness in wanting a boyfriend? okay… so it’s not a betrayal at all then and bison won’t give a fuck… BOOOOOORRRRRIIIIINGGGGGGG!!!

tbh also equally as boring to me if he’d been totally naive and taking kant at face value from the start, but that’s just a personal opinion

One thing I rly hate in fandoms is ooc angst just be for the sake of having angst. It gets to the point where a lot of angst is corny to me bcuz ppl just make it to be emo without considering whether or not it actually aligns with canon

Kou Minamoto is one of the biggest examples of this that I’ve seen. There are so many angst posts abt him being sad that Nene is with Hanako, when he acts the exact opposite way in canon. The only time he’s really acted jealous over her was when Teru flirted with her, and that was more because he felt betrayed by his brother. He didn’t seem upset at all when Hanako crashed their “date” in Yako’s boundary, in fact he was perfectly happy to let Hanako tag along

There is plenty of angst to be made with Kounene, especially considering Nene’s short lifespan. Since the ship is treated as the designated “healthy” pairing in the fandom I also don’t see a lot of talk about how Kou’s savior complex would negatively impact their relationship. There’s just so much to talk about with them outside of the whole “Kou is sad because Nene has a boyfriend” thing. Kou has a boyfriend too so like, now what?? I’ll admit I’m very biased here, I don’t like the unrequited love trope very much. The angst that goes along with it isn’t really my cup of tea, so whenever I make Kounene fics/posts they’re almost always from Nene’s pov with her liking him back. It’s not that it’s too sad for me it’s just kinda lukewarm?? And some of it gives Nice Guy vibes idk. The way I see it, if one character isn’t interested then that’s where the relationship ends, so I don’t see the point in shipping anything that’s completely one-sided. Not trying to yuck anyone’s yums, this is just a preference

Anyways Kounene is a really good ship with a lot of potential besides just being “sad boy Kou hours.” There is another character that Kou gets very possessive over but for once this ain’t about them so I’m directing my attention towards Kounene. And preferences aside, I’d rather the angst just be in character. Teru is a character that gets very mopey about his crush being one-sided, so a lot of these Kounene angst posts would work great with him and Aoi or Akane. Again, it’s not my favorite trope in the world but I can see how it would make sense with him. But for Kounene I think there’s so much angst (and fluff) potential we’ve been missing out on by reusing the same trope. Let’s get creative with it!

i think the idea that the concept of devotion or attachment in fiction HAS to be romantic is stupid. yes i do enjoy the devotion of two unhealthy romantic lovers who love each other more than anything BUT. friends devoted to each other because they have no one else who understands them? friends willing to both die for and kill for each other, and will go down with each other if one friend dies? friends who would never want to engage in anything romantic or sexual with each other, but would give up everything for each other in a heartbeat? friends who would sacrifice their lovers and family for each other? friends who would sacrifice themselves for each other? i feel like boiling complicated dynamics to "oh theyre just in love" sometimes takes away certain things, not all of the time but in a lot of cases. idk anyway platonic devotion/attachment trope ily

also, i would loove to hear more of your thoughts on moash and kaladin and how they dealt with pain! that post was so interesting. you don't have to elaborate if you don't want to. it's just such a poignant take i didn't even consider, because I've been sympathetic to moash post row. but now it's recontextualizing a lot for me.

Ahhh this such an amazing question! I have so many thoughts about Moash & Kaladin but since I’ve just finished Wind and Truth, I feel like I may not be able to articulate them very well, so sorry if this sounds jumbled or ramble-y. Also if you haven’t finished W&T, I feel like I could enter spoilerish territory with some stuff here so please don’t read on if you don’t want to!! I’d love to talk about this more with you and hear more about your thoughts!! ❤️❤️

Honestly we didn’t see much of Moash in W&T, and what we did see was basically him giving in fully to the Vyre persona. I feel like before this, it was easier for me to sympathize with because, yes, he was a coward, but choosing to avoid experiencing pain and guilt is an understandable decision, even if it is weak and cowardly. That positions him as opposed to Kaladin, who experiences pain and guilt and accepts it, but does not let it define him. But in W&T it’s kind of a 180, and I’m still trying to figure out how i feel about it. Moash accepts his pain but instead of using it as fuel to do better, like Kaladin and even Teft, Moash sees his pain as an excuse which feels even more cowardly to me idk!

That being said! I really really hate how Kaladin is portrayed as a “good victim” of oppression and is constantly told to give up on his hatred and anger for the ruling class. I especially hate how Moash is portrayed as super evil, partially because he gives in to his hurt and rage. I suppose this is another way in which we’re meant to see them as opposites: Kaladin hates lighteyes, but accepts his duty to protect and sticks to his oaths no matter what, whereas Moash completely gives in to his hatred and never chooses control or mitigation. He’s either all passion, or completely passion-less.

leo is already going to have similar angst about this with draxum so i'd say it really just wouldnt be anything but redundant. i'd say that responsibility needs to be out of his hands more than it does raph because it tore him apart-- they're a lot happier settling into being co leaders at the end, because raph hasn't had anyone to be there as a line of support and leo has never had a big brother to look up to. there will be a lot of fights over taking control once theyre forced to work together, because BOTH of them are stuck in their old roles of being the oldest of their families/the ones that are meant to keep their younger brother in line, but they'll eventually get it together and come to that conclusion pretty early.

and as unaddressed as splinter's reasons are in canon, ive always seen it as him recognizing this untapped potential in leo (i kind of wonder if this was meant to be set up in many unhappy returns?) AND him understanding that raph needs some of the weight off his shoulders. they're not going to be able to flourish with raph there constantly fixing their mistakes and sheltering them, and that's really not a good thing seeing how much stress it puts on raph. i kind of see the trust fall as him giving up responsibility and putting it in their hands like that ngl

he wouldn't do this in wwww. mikey's still the littlest brother and family baby but he's already been established to be VICIOUSLY independent, and splinter really doesn't have any authority over donnie and leo. he's too lenient, too unlike draxum, and they dont like how he does see them as children. although donnie is kind of a suck up to him for approval because he's still donnie in the end and leo is more the type to lash out to test his patience/be "punished" because he doesn't trust him.

splinter doesn't really have the right to intervene, and they've settled into something great independent from him. i plan on giving him a more concrete emotional conclusion with raph because their relationship is extra complicated, though. like raph trusts LEO who is a category 5 freak that desperately needs an exorcism who also tried to kill him repeatedly with his problems more than he does his own father, and that's saying something. raph spent his whole life feeling like he had NOBODY except for occasionally april (who is closer to mikey than him) and that takes a toll on him. i plan on sinking my teeth into it more than canon does.
