if anyone is familiar with my fics then you know i love giving MQF a bad habit of gambling, inspired by the donghuas hilarious decision to use his model in that one scene just for the sake of it (originally rando in the book). absolutely brilliant. QQQ enables him in this most of the time and loves to take his money because she is the reigning betting champion

speaking about being inspired by donghua, one MQF background scene where he is posed on his sword is meant to look like a battle stance, but to me he mostly looks like hes trying not to fall hgjkf, thus spawning hc that he does not enjoy flying too much (on his own)

QQQ and LQG light-heartedly fight both with words and fists over the stupidest things. its enrichment

WQW's has a brand of humour that is sometimes hard for people to get and understand that he is actually joking, especially for people that dont usually interact with him. It is easier to clock for his closer circle though. (inspired by the extras)

this also continues as WQW grows more into adulthood, because he gains somewhat of a severe resting face, despite his jovial nature around his friends. He looks intimidating and grows to be more restrained and exasperated at nonsense that takes his time for no reason, but still keeps his mischievous spirit

Sanji and Reader have always had a pretty flirty relationship ever since reader joined the strawhats but it’s never been super serious. When the strawhats meet up with ace in alabasta, ace and reader flirt/tease each other relentlessly and Sanji and Luffy hate it. Luffy mostly because he’s got “little brother syndrome” where he feels the need to make sure his brother is not going to take away his crew (Luffy is only jealous platonically) Sanji is mad jealous and also a little hurt that reader is flirting with someone else

Eventually Sanji and Reader talk it out. Reader didn’t realize Sanji was taking the flirting so seriously (because he’s a huge flirt) I don’t know how to end it but hopefully that made sense.

The heat of the Alabasta sun didn’t hold a candle to the firestorm Sanji was currently experiencing in his chest.

Because there you were.

Leaning way too close to Portgas D. Ace, laughing at something he said, your hand casually brushing against his bicep as if you hadn't just set two Straw Hat crew members into an emotional tailspin.

Luffy’s jaw was tight, arms crossed as he watched the interaction from a few feet away, chewing on a hunk of meat with more aggression than usual.

“She’s gonna leave with him,” Luffy muttered dramatically through a mouthful. “He’s gonna steal her. Just like that.”

“She’s not leaving,” Sanji muttered, smoke curling up from his cigarette as he scowled. “She’s just being friendly. Overly friendly.”

Ace said something again—probably another one of his casually cool one-liners—and you giggled. That sweet, playful sound you always made when teasing Sanji. Except this time it wasn’t for him. This time it was for that flaming bastard.

Sanji nearly snapped the filter of his cigarette between his teeth.

“You’ve never giggled like that at me,” Luffy huffed, plopping down with a dramatic thud. “What if she likes him more than us? He’s got freckles and a cape, Sanji. What if she likes capes?!”

Sanji didn’t respond. He was too busy glaring daggers at Ace, who—of course—caught his eye and sent him a cheeky wink.

The bastard.

Ace was hot, funny, and very good at teasing back. Not that you were serious about anything—you flirted with Sanji all the time, and you thought he knew it was just your love language. But Ace? He was fun. And you couldn’t help yourself. Especially when you noticed Sanji staring with a clenched jaw and smoke practically pouring out of his ears.

Which only made you want to flirt more. A little chaos never hurt anyone, right?

“Luffy,” Sanji finally said, through gritted teeth. “Your brother is a menace.”

Luffy nodded solemnly. “He’s gonna seduce our whole crew. We’re gonna wake up and everyone’s gonna be gone, following him like a pied piper of fire.”

Sanji’s eye twitched. “He can seduce whoever he wants. But not her.”

“Oh?” Luffy blinked, then tilted his head. “Wait, do you like her?”

Sanji choked on his smoke.

“N-no! I mean—well—of course I like her! She’s amazing! She’s smart and beautiful and strong and has absolutely no sense of personal space—but that’s part of her charm!”

Luffy just stared. “So… yes.”

Sanji groaned, covering his face with one hand.

This wasn’t supposed to happen. Flirting with you was just a game at first—a fun little routine. You teased, he swooned. You winked, he heart-eyed. That was just you two. But lately… it had started to feel different. Like he meant every word, even when you laughed it off.

And now?

Now Ace was standing where Sanji wanted to be.

The fire crackled gently as the crew settled in for the night, the sky above Alabasta lit with stars so bright it almost looked fake. You sat near the fire, stretched out lazily on the sand, letting the warmth of the flames chase off the desert chill. Ace sat beside you, throwing a small flame between his fingers like a toy, completely unbothered by everything except the snack in his hand and the smirk on your face.

"So, Ace," you drawled, nudging his elbow with your own, "tell me the most embarrassing story about Luffy.”

Ace chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck. “You sure you wanna hear that? He might punch me into next week.”

"Please," you said, batting your lashes exaggeratedly. “For me?”

Across the camp, Sanji’s cigarette nearly snapped again. He was cleaning up dinner dishes with the most aggressive clinking of metal known to man.

“I swear,” Sanji muttered under his breath, “if she leans into him one more time—”

“She’s allowed to talk to people, Sanji,” Nami said without looking up from her map. “You do that heart-eyes thing at every woman you meet. Let her have her fun.”

“That’s different,” Sanji huffed.

“How?” Nami asked.

“Because… because I don’t mean it,” he said before immediately cringing. “I mean—I do—but I don’t—I haven’t meant it in a while. With anyone except—”

“Oh my god,” Nami said, finally looking up. “You like her. Like, like like her.”

“Could you not announce it to the whole Grand Line, Nami-swan?” Sanji hissed.

Chopper, who had clearly been eavesdropping from behind a cactus, gasped. “You’re jealous!”

“I’m not jealous,” Sanji lied through his teeth, glancing over again just in time to see you laughing at something Ace whispered to you, your hand resting on his shoulder like it belonged there.

He was going to combust.

You, meanwhile, were starting to notice the tension.

Mostly because Luffy had walked up to you three times already to interrupt.

The first time, it was under the pretense of needing water. The second time, he claimed Ace owed him “very important brother stuff.” The third time, he just stared at you and said, "Stop stealing my brother," before wandering away grumpily like a kicked puppy.

Ace was clearly amused. “You know,” he said, after Luffy’s third interruption, “you might want to cool it before Lover Boy explodes.”

You blinked at him. “Lover Boy?”

“Aha. So you don’t know,” Ace said, clearly enjoying himself now. “Sanji’s been shooting daggers at me all day. I’m shocked the heat hasn’t melted your hair.”

“Sanji?” you said, sitting up a little straighter. “Sanji and I always flirt. It’s not like it’s serious.”

Ace arched a brow. “You’re telling me you didn’t notice the way he’s been fuming like a kettle with no outlet?”

You paused, replaying the day in your head—Sanji’s silence, the way he didn’t offer you a second serving at dinner, the aggressive chopping of vegetables like he was punishing them for existing.

“…Oh,” you muttered. “Oh no.”

Ace snickered. “Don’t worry. I won’t steal you.”

You gave him a flat look. “You’re so annoying.”

“Luffy’s annoying. I’m chaotic. Big difference.”

Later, as the crew settled down to sleep, you approached Sanji.

He was sitting alone near the fire, shoulders tense, cigarette burned all the way down to the filter before he lit a fresh one without saying a word.

You plopped down beside him.

"Hey, chef boy."

He didn’t look at you. “Shouldn’t you be over with your fire prince?”

You winced. “Okay, ow.”

Sanji finally turned, eyes narrowed just enough to sting. “What do you want?”

“I didn’t know you were taking it seriously,” you said honestly. “The flirting, I mean. I thought… I dunno. It was just fun.”

Sanji’s jaw flexed. “Yeah. That’s what I thought too. At first.”

You were quiet for a second.

“…You could’ve told me.”

“You could’ve noticed,” he muttered. “I flirt with everyone, yeah. But I meant it with you. Every time. And watching you fall over Ace like it was nothing just—”

He cut himself off, tossing his cigarette away into the sand.

“—it just sucked, alright?”

You blinked, then smiled faintly. “You’re an idiot.”

He scowled. “Excuse me?”

“You should’ve said something, dummy. How was I supposed to know when you flirt with anything that moves and then make heart eyes at the salt shaker?”

“…It was a very elegant salt shaker,” he grumbled.

You leaned against him, shoulder to shoulder. “I wasn’t trying to hurt you. Ace and I were just messing around. I didn’t think you’d actually care.”

“…Well, I do.”

You looked at him.

He looked at you.

And then you flicked his forehead.

“Ow!”

“That’s for being bad at feelings.”

He smiled, finally. Just a little.

You both sat there in the quiet, the fire crackling gently between you.

“…So you’re not gonna run off with him?”

You grinned. “Depends. Are you gonna keep making me dinner?”

Sanji laughed softly. “Only if you stop making me jealous on purpose.”

“No promises.”

You had barely opened your eyes the next morning before Ace was at it again.

“Morning, gorgeous,” he said with the most obnoxiously suave tone, plopping down next to you and handing you a steaming cup of tea—tea that very clearly wasn’t from Sanji, judging by the over-steeped bitterness and floating leaf debris.

You squinted at it like it personally offended you. “You trying to poison me?”

Ace just smirked. “Figured I’d give your boyfriend a break. He looked like he was on the verge of strangling me last night.”

“He’s not my—” You stopped, then sighed. “...Not officially.”

Ace gave a little wiggle of his brows. “Oho?”

Before you could retaliate with a snarky comment or cup-throw, Sanji appeared like a smoke-trailing storm cloud behind Ace, moving past both of you with a loaded tray and a forced calm so aggressive it felt like he was going to combust on the spot.

“Good morning, Y/N,” he said with his best gentleman voice, pointedly ignoring Ace. “I made your favorite—fresh fruit, toasted bread with honey, and a lavender tea that won’t make you gag.”

Ace hummed. “Jealousy suits you, love cook.”

Sanji didn’t even flinch. “And smugness suits you, fire hazard.”

You blinked between them. “Okay. I’m gonna go ahead and say this: whatever this is, it’s weirdly hot but also making me want to punch both of you.”

Luffy, passing by with a hunk of meat in each hand, paused mid-bite. “Are we fighting Ace yet? Because I have notes.”

“No, Luffy,” you and Ace both said at the same time.

Sanji narrowed his eyes. “He is on thin ice.”

Ace just grinned, resting his chin in his palm like this was the best entertainment he’d had in months. “Relax. I’m just playing wingman at this point.”

“You’re what now?” Sanji blinked.

Ace tilted his head at you. “Come on. She’s got good taste, but I’m not sticking around long. And between you and me?” He leaned in a little, stage-whispering just loud enough for everyone to hear. “She likes her men possessive. So quit sulking and go do something about it.”

Sanji looked like he was buffering. “I—I do not sulk.”

“You definitely sulk,” you and Luffy said in unison.

Ace patted Sanji’s shoulder twice, grinning. “Good luck, love cook.”

And then he walked away with that infuriatingly confident strut, whistling like he hadn’t just thrown a live grenade into the air and walked off.

You found Sanji sitting at the edge of a dune, finally calm.

You flopped down beside him again. “So. How’s it feel to be publicly roasted by a man who doesn’t wear a shirt?”

Sanji groaned. “I have never hated someone so charming.”

You snorted. “He said he was just trying to push you into doing something. Honestly, kinda worked.”

Sanji looked at you. Really looked at you. “Would you… want me to?”

“Do something?”

He nodded.

You leaned in slightly. “You gonna kiss me or keep letting random shirtless men flirt with me until you pop a blood vessel?”

Sanji blinked.

Then kissed you.

Not overly dramatic, not heat-of-the-moment passionate—just soft, warm, and finally. Like something you’d both been dancing around for way too long.

When he pulled back, he was pink in the cheeks but smiling.

You smirked. “So… still jealous?”

how do you think sheriff would feel about skittles?

with the base context that sheriff has never ever met any other iteration of hank until this point.. i feel at first he would be a bit startled by how colorful he is. i dont think he would clock immediately that this is an iteration of hank unless he was observing certain behaviors independently or alongside hank.

an example being some behavioral movements / body languages / traits are shared across no matter what kind of hank it is, like head tilting, utter hairlessness, a towering height, asymmetrical fashion or a tendency to loom.

at first i think he would just remain wary since someone so colorful is not common where he is currently situated, does not think that they are even a hank at all unless hank was on the mind and he noticed the little details.

when he figures out theyre an iteration of hank hes more or less perturbed and a bit .. scared? sort of? the aesthetics, the flavor, the personality it is all so different but those little details shared are undeniable they are the “same person”. he is so used to hank being a rather silent, observant, violent, not so much a mediator / peacekeeper, clad in black and red, not a bubbly overly friendly ice cream truck driving saturated colors dogooder. its so jarring, it sort of stuns him into a croaky uncomfortable silence.

usually sheriff can keep a level of “hate” to justify his standoffish behavior but for this hank its like.. you are being nothing but nice to me and you know i dont really like that knowing youre supposed to be him.

i feel he’d want to dismiss skittles / happy hank as soon as possible or get him out of view in the most passive, non-issue causing way possible. its scary in an unfamiliar way, does not stir hate but confusion.

for someone who particularly enjoys looking at shoes, i sure as hell dont draw them much.

i left their plot vague for a few reasons; wiggle room and potential to add more. its mostly just going to be cool tropes i saw and liked. nothing will be too set in stone, more so a common theme that might reoccur every now and then.

basic premise of the au that vaguely follows the 'canon', urrrr;

samael volkov, mid 30s, calm and collected, doesnt tolerate rudeness. french-slavic and a normal human. smokes, and drinks socially. cold hands.

ciel, looks to be in his mid 20s but act somewhat immature; hot and cold. one hell of a drinker but never seems to get drunk and never fail to make a disgusted expression whenever he sips on his alcohol. ขี้หนาว, easily cold despite the literal and metaphorical air of coldness that permeate from his very pores.

ciel sporadically frequents the bar that sam works at, usually with a dark expression on his face; a tick in his jaw and furrowed brows. sams bar, [punny name here], just so happens to be where a lot of stubborn souls running away from death tends to flee to. Last drink before death eat them alive or whatever.

ciel and sam became reluctant acquaintances simply because sam was trying to keep track of the patron that often took a tipsy person home, only for said person to be declared missing and presumed dead. only the lucky(?) few made it out alive, a former shell of themselves.

sam surprisingly didnt tip the police about ciel ,but its not like they could do anything either— they seem to be rather tight-lipped with the disappearances in the area. thats what got ciel curious about sam.

wanted to make tipping a thing, but it doesnt make sense anywhere else that paid their employees livable wage. but tipping is always nice! (additionally, the setting could be in canada. since to my understanding, theres a good population of french speaking people and the other let them. and its cold too.)

(nevermind, tipping is a thing but frown upon by businesses. its as if the customers are implying that they arent paying their employees enough, hence the tipping— a fun dynamic, i thunk!)

i did make sams design intentionally bland. the piercings were purely self-indulgent, i really wanted to fuck his ears. believe me when i say that i wanted to incorporate the red stripes from his original design but it was too flashy for what i had in mind.

derailing here, but i do plan to eventually draw a reimagined design for btd2 sam and zeitgeist sam. though he probably wouldnt be blue since ciel is already navy blue. blue on blue cannibalism. the designs wont be anything too remarkable or unique, im not creative.

Sorry if this is a weird question, but how do you come up with your drawings? What does through your mind while making them? I find your compositions so gorgeous and intriguing but I can't really figure out how you approach things since everything's very shifty and abstract. It's really gorgeous work, I'm so glad I discovered your art :,)

hey first of all this isnt a weird question at all & i'm really glad you enjoy my art heheheheheehe. there's an incoming large largely unformatted block of text that i hope you dont mind!

Honestly there are a billion things going through my mind at a time while I'm drawing and they all sort of bump into each other and cancel each other out like opposing particles. If you've seen any of my streams i'm usually very fast and iterative in a lot of my process and i rarely ever slow down even past the early parts like thumbnailing and sketching. i kind of let my hands do the talking more, yknow? but even then theyre never talking about a single thing at a time. everything interacts with everything, which is probably why i always end up getting lost and meandering. composition is not independent from color & value and neither are they from texture and perspective. its hard thinking of all of the ways they mesh and react to one another so i spend less of my energy thinking and more of it doing, and then assessing once something interesting comes about it. i guess then i prioritize my Hand Movement Actioning and Eye Vision Seeing over my Brain Neuron Assessing. but even though iterations can come and go quick this kind of informed throwing-against-the-wall isn't really the Fastest. but its fun. and you get to stuff all the unused ideas in your pocket for later.

even though i did say how connected everything is i always seem to start with composition. it kind of affects and informs everything the most at least on an individual piece level. with thumbnails & composition in general i think youre supposed to think huge right. so i Always think huge. push everything as much as you can. start with a crazy angle (not necessarily angle meaning "perspective" but like an angle between two lines) and border your scene within it. take an already steep foreshortening and steepen it further with the transform tool & see what shapes form from the empty & filled space. shrink your subject to only fit 3/4ths of the canvas and build around it to make it work. blow things up (enlargen) and blow things up (remove & obliterate). with composition you have so much room for fuckery if you give yourself the grace to accept the fuckiness.

and i guess this freedom to fuck around and iterate and build and build and build upon comes from how most of the time my initial ideas are very. vague? abstract like you've said. sometimes its Just a song or a song lyric and nothing else (no characters to attach to just the feel and my gut). sometimes its a less than 5 word phrase i felt strongly about throughout the day. in my me-only discord server i have messages in #to-draw channel that just say shit like "something about guitar straps" "thanks for knowing me!" "angel don't look at me" "DITHER QUEEN" (<-been meaning to make something with that). for things that have specific guidelines i spend more time thinking conceptually (the "rare animal" coelacanth drawing being an example) but otherwise it mostly comes out after. again. the first strokes. after you put the meat and bones on the canvas. an artist at a workshop i was at last year when i was in my own head about Needing to have a fleshed tangible Profound concept before being able to start something told me not to underestimate the stories that can be told just by your hands. and i think thats what stuck with me the most.

& one last thing i wanna mention is how despite how much i revel in the chaos of the process ive found how important limits are. i don't like cutting back on everything but i like cutting back on some things. sometimes i cut out backgrounds for solid fills and i love them that much more. sometimes i have little subconscious rules in a piece that i try not to break to keep a little level of consistency. if somethings a big wonderful mess already then i love a limited pallet and i love keeping parts empty and i love being able to breathe a little. yknow. but still go over the top in the other parts you have so much permission to. less is more but have a little more in your art than less. YKNOW?

the world if whb writing had any sort of consistency in quality between the main story, event stories, and card stories

ill just ramble under the cut instead of sticking everything in tags as i usually do bc its a lot but-

my long standing issues with how the mc is written aside (because that'd take a long time and honestly im used to otome mcs being like wet paper bags and kind of annoying if they have any kind of personality at all, ive played maybe 3 games where i enjoyed the mc), im glad it feels like there's so much care put into the main story like it feels like whoever is doing it is having fun. which is as it should be! but theres a long. loooong pause in between them (which i also understand and support 100% please dont rush one of the good things you have going on) so what we mainly rely on in terms of content is side stories and cards.

and it feels like most of the time they're just kinda ass even with how long it takes between those too.

i'll be real atp i kinda just skip through the card stories if i open them at all bc aside from small moments or the introductory segment it really does just feel like the same thing over and over and the writing isnt really of any quality for me to sweat over not knowing whats in them like i might with nu carnival. and part of the problem is likely just bc theyre so mc centric and i cant bear it for long enough to really care about reading them. but otherwise it just feels akin to bad wattpad smut you'd read as a teenager because you hadn't discovered any good quality writing yet.

and then with the event/side stories (cant really call them all events atp since only some come with a new unit honestly and events in gachas r kinda synonymous with new characters) theyre like. theres such a range honestly. some ARE pretty good (loved niflheim and lucifer intro) but most are so super bland and kind of a drag to get through. and all of them stop so abruptly especially this one theres never just a well written ending or it feels super rushed. and oftentimes it feels like the events past the first couple are only *somewhat* about how theyre marketed. like with the current valentines one you'd think we'd be seeing WAY MORE of ronove and dantalian but it didn't really feel centered on them at all even with most of it being backstory. like as much as i like amon and nabs it felt way more about them than the two it was supposed to be for (and there is already a avisos centric event and funny enough that one was an intro for andrealphus who barely showed up) and this happened also with the early satan/sitri one (which also felt drawn out bc there was JUST a sitri centric one). its just. annoying a bit is the best way to put it. theres SO MANY characters which might be part of the issue but all of them don't have to be featured at a time. it gives the actual focus chars less time to shine and if you were looking forward to meeting them ut just leaves you disappointed

okay. im gonna like, reoutline the basics since nothing really makes sense unless we all get REAL COOL with a bunch of worldbuilding stuff first; basically quag are all god-adjacent beings (following their admin powers and abilities to use private servers and stuff) and everything takes place in a realistic minecraft setting where players on hardcore/private servers usually live there all their lives, which means that quag ash and uu ash are two different people, for example.

ashzam are quag ashzam who got basically booted into uu ashzam's bodies by way of [INTENTIONAL GAME DESIGN] oor something. i havent really thought that through.

okay? okay. now im a proponent of the 'completely omniscient director has an avatar on the server they communicate through but isnt totally aware of smaller things going on' idea, so thats how this weird swap thing occurs in the first place without the directors knowing. the director's like, background coding or something, makes it so that everyone else thinks that this is how things used to be: and ashzam are the only ones who change, by the way, cause i saw some confusion about that- they are the only things that change, but the organizations names change with them lol. anyway so ashzam think that theyre supposed to be in these roles because Obviously everyone else acts like theyre supposed to be here, so why wouldnt they think that too? like theyre aware they probably took over the bodies of their alternative selves but they dont know they Swapped. that is until the mcs start getting involved

whats happened here is that the main trio Know that somethings off, but theyre not sure what exactly it is at first. egg tells wemmbu something about toppling 'that tyrant ash off his high horse' and wemmbu like, absentmindedly agrees but hes like 'i cant help but feel like we've got the wrong guy...' meanwhile parrot and wifies are conversing over how to beat zam, but it just doesn't feel like she's the one theyre supposed to be fighting... spoke and mapicc are talking about all the shit zams put them through, but spoke cant help but think that all the stuff theyre attributing to zams doing was someone else's fault. it all kinda culminates in the three of them reaching some kind of epiphany- for wemmbu its when he finally faces off against ash in the war thats been weeks in the making, and realizes when clown finds them that its not ash whos supposed to be there but zam in his place; i havent thought abt when the other realizations could take place bc i havent gotten thru all of uu yet but, yeah, all of these realizations take place in similar fashions. the sidekicks dont realize and probably wont ever realize, but they believe in their friends for the most part and are willing to go along with the schemes.

now, ashzam, as much as theyd love to fuck around and screw up whatever plan the director has, theyre being tugged along by the directors plot too. its slightly different from what should be happening- i.e. maybe ash doesnt try as hard to be a dick to wemmbu, even though hes like 'this guy is pmo' he recognizes that theyre all in a pretty shit situation and kinda lets wemmbu off easily, or zam isnt so cruel to her mafia members and doesnt try As hard to torment parrot (she does still. kinda torment him. because shes a cruel god at heart! and thats kind of quags thing, being cruel to each other and laughing it off.)

but its not until the protags gain like, sentience or whatever, that they start getting actually worried because at one point the trio makes a plan to try and hunt down the one they want dead and interrogate them, which results in spoke and parrot going after ash while wemmbu hunts down zam. this kinda all culminates in them like living in some kind of secret base like the kind ash and squiddo have in s2 of uu to go back to, and they try from this base to continually contact kyle and redd (quag/god versions) so that they can leave uu. and ofc while they like. dont want anyone Dead or anything, neither of them are exactly playing fair when it comes to throwing off their pursuers (ash is creative flying and dropping bombs on spoke and parrot while they try and kill him, zams spawning a thousand ender dragons and crashing the server whenever wemmbu tries to get close to her, etc)

i havent really thought of any proper conclusion to the vswap au or anything, but in my mind there comes a point where both ashzam and the protag trio get so fed up they decide to try a friendly diplomacy meeting (ashzam only agree because they know the protag trio cant actually kill them no matter what, since theyll be in creative the whole time). they do get trapped going in but when protag trio realizes theyre unkillable they do actually get some information going between them and stuff, and ashzam agree to help protag trio hunt down the director and kill them.

i imagine this happens sometime in s2, after zams had her hand forced to kill wifies and ash has kinda gone intoa fake sort of cottagecore life with pangi (hes not too happy about having to live with zams best friend, and hes definitely not happy about her having to live with His gf but they work it out somehow)

aaaand this is a kind of crack-ish ending i guess. but in my head kyle and redd finally manage to get ashzam out by creating a wormhole that crashes unstable and lets all the uu characters out into the HUB for the first time in their minecraft lives and ashzam help them acclimate a little better

one of the best things about agents of shield is that it does all of the tropes, way over the top trauma, character revivals, alternate reality plots, evil versions of characters, betrayals, mind control, time travel plots, etc., things which are usually done either way too seriously or as a cheap joke/low effort filler content that sometimes doesnt fit the tone or show it happens in at all.

but it does them properly the way theyre supposed to be, integrating them into its world, and it shows why they are actually popular and that they work if you spend any real effort on them and try to do them justice instead of always playing them as a cliché trope.

yeah, its an interesting storyline to see the goodhearted main character be turned evil against their will and then deal with the fallout. whod have thunk.

and at the same time it manages to not lose the kind of campy feel associated with them, in a really charming way. i dont know if im making sense, i just waited for a really long time for someone to actually do these things right cause they have so much potential, and they usually dont get to explore it beyond very superficial levels.

the kane chronicles school headcannons that ✨nobody asked for✨

i am sleep deprived but i had too many ideas, so i had to write them. this is sloppy. this has weird commentary. here we go!

zia doesn't go to brooklyn academy, or whatever the nearby school is called, with the rest of the magicians. she stays home and homeschools herself with carter. they spar, practice, and study for a few hours, and once they feel like they can take a break for the day, they hang out. the school day is the oPTIMAl time for them to hang out, without nosy onlookers such as sadie.

amos bought them a school bus. yes, there are that many kids in the brooklyn house. and instead of having the school use up one entire bus just for the brooklyn house kids, carter and zia take turns driving everyone to school and back. its a party on the bus, always, and super fun. sometimes khufu tags along.

the elementary, middle, and high school are all connected and basically form one mega building (also, they all start and end at the same time. its not practical but shush). meaning most of the magicians see each other all the time, waving to each other in the hallways. whenever they see one of their fellow brooklyn housers getting bullied or something, they always stand up for them, even if they barely know them. and like if a BH (brooklyn house) high schooler is going outside for a science class and sees a BH third grader getting bullied over on the playground, the bullies are cooked. also they feel comfortable partnering up with other BH kids for projects when they dont know anyone. theyre found family like that.

shelby is banned from using art supplies. well, more like amos specifically requested all of her teachers to never let her touch a marker. he told them that "she goes crazy and draws all over the walls" cuz like, how are the teachers supposed to know what happens?

they have a school groupchat, just for the BH kids, with carter and zia excluded. where they talk about events and afterschool stuff and yada yada. a number of them are in clubs, meaning carter and zia have to drive some of them home at the regular time and some of them home an hour or two after. and then cramming in their magician stuff afterward...its a lot

cleo is like the librarian's helper. she spends all of her study halls in there. any BH kid need her for a "project" (magic thing), they know where to go. and cleo is always helping the librarian stock up the library with new finds, mostly nonfiction, and some artifacts so crazy that the librarian gets scared of cleo. but she doesnt realize of course, and the library continues to be her little haven.

a bunch of the BH kids are on sports teams, and a lot of them are on the same team. ex: julian and paul on the same football team. so whenever they have games, as many BH kids as possible try to attend and cheer them on. carter and zia usually don't go, but sometimes they do for the fun of it.

all of the BH kids' school friends think they stay at a hostel. its not like they can say that brooklyn house is a foster home or something with the casual way they talk about their parents. they try to explain, but no one at school really understands how it works. amos is the legal guardian for all of them though, meaning he has to sign sports paperwork and trip permission forms all the way from egypt.

the BH kids have a lot of study groups, where they hang out in the brooklyn houses many rooms to hang out and talk and help each other with schoolwork.

sadie accidentally hints stuff to lacey about the brooklyn house and magic and stuff, and lacey isn't even phased, not even realizing that sadie, a presumed mortal, is talking about magic. she vaguely knows percy jackson, so whenever sadie refers to "a water-loving friend from manhattan", she just imagines percy jackson, even though she thinks thats obviously not who sadie is talking about.

everyone at school ships sadie and walt, even though walt is a few grades above her. they meet in between classes and all the popular girls in walt's grade are jealous. (stay jealous.)

most of the BH kids sit together at lunch, at one big crowded table. some go off to sit with mortal friends, but they end up rotating every other day, between their mortal friends and BH friends. theyre mortal friends dont really understand the hype about the BH kids and their dynamic.

unpopular opinion: i dont want him to leave the pm lawl. i know people talk abt the beast afterword mentioning ada skk and im sure there could be an interesting story there but chuuya would need a REASON to leave the pm. its not like. bad for him the way a lot of people write it to be - or it hasnt been since post stormbringer. not an ideal situation for anyone but like. hes not got an ideal life. like hey the built weapon who spent his formative years hammering it into his bones that he needs to be useful for his existence to be justified is never going to be satisfied with a 'good' life. even if the pm WAS bad for him the way it was for dazai, hes a hell of a lot more loyal to it conceptually than dazai was, so he'd still need an Event to lead him to leaving. anyway. i know lots of people just dont like seeing the pm as anything but a horrid environment causing their blorbo to have a terrible awful time but yk😭😭 thats just not whats going on

FINALLY BEAT KIRYUS PUNK ASS-

it wasnt that hard once i gave in and looked up how to beat him online and found out hes weak to ice (wouldve been funny if they also made him weak to knife attacks but ya know) also id heard before about how the creator never wants kiryu to fight women but i didnt think that would also apply to LaD? thats so silly and wholesome kiryu drinks so much respect women juice the rules of the game bend around him

also it reminded me a lot of how sanji also wont fight women in jump force (and i get why people didnt like it in that instance because of how the game works, and that also explains why the creators never let kiryu be a guest character in other fighting games)

i dont think ive ever been as hyper aware of a franchise working around and making a character as "cool" as they possibly can as i have been with kiryu and it still WORKING on me. like oh man yea this guy's cool as fuck i wish men were real

i now the title cards have never reflected how much the characters know about each other and theyre just there for the player, but they usually do feel like the characters at least have heard about each other whenever we get them, and im sure ichiban mustve heard about The Dragon of Dojima before going to prison since he'd heard about Majima before. but he didnt know majimas name either he just mentioned the tojo had a mad dog with one eye im over thinking this okay im done :]

i was just thinking about the look on down from the bridge moments in rick and morty bcs im obsessed with them and i started like way overanalysing shit (as always tee hee) so im posting it here

so like while both are following a really traumatising moment for one character that doesnt feel traumatic for another (morty being absolutely horrified seeing his own bludgeoned dead body, rick unphased, just another day in his life lol. and rick killing the man hes destroyed himself hunting for half his life and realising he doesnt feel any better, while for morty it was just another adventure) but then there's also differences, lets break them down >:)

okay so right before it starts the last thing we see is rick being very dismissive of how horrifying this is for morty

im not sure tbh if rick is really aware of how traumatic this is for morty (clueless little man <3) but morty does quite clearly express his horror and rick dismisses it, kinda showing how morty is often pushed to the side and ignored by characters on the show

next we see morty looking down at the corpse with his traumatised look and rick nudges him to get moving, instead of comforting him or smth

again showing that morty is like dismissed and kinda emotionally neglected, especially by rick, but also by other characters

the next bit is just him burying the body, just showing again what it is that has him in this dissociative state

pretty self explanatory

then, and heres where it starts to get interesting, we see morty watching his parents arguing

(sorry, hes not watching them in that specific shot but he does when the angle changes yk)

obviously he's having a Moment about them not being his original parents and how hes in a whole new dimension and no one even knows except him and his emotionally inept grandpa, but also he stands there for a good moment and his parents don't even notice hes there, they just ignore him

after that, we see summer and rick sitting on the sofa, rick watching tv and summer on her phone

morty just stands there and stares at them and summer doesnt even look up (we've already established rick isnt going to) its like hes invisible to the people around him

and then we just get a zoomed in shot of morty's horrified face aaand roll credits

(no picture attatched, sorry, i think we all know what mortys face looks like)

morty is highlighted here, the focus is on him for the audience, we are supposed to see how shaken up this has left morty. no one else is in the shot because no one elses reaction is relevant right now

also i'd like to point out that everything being done by others in mortys lodftb moment is completely mundane, beth and jerry arguing (pretty regular for them) rick just watching tv, normal tv not even interdimensional cable, and summer on her phone. none of this is special or different, this is an average day being ignored for morty, except this time he needs his family more than ever, but still nothing changes

mortys problem portrayed is that ppl dont value him enough or dont pay attention to him. his parents can be emotionally neglectful, he and summer don't have a super close relationship (in later seasons theyre a bit closer), and rick is, well... rick. he pretends not to care about morty, ignores most of what he says, dismisses his feelings, etc.

rick's look on down from the bridge moment:

this contrasts morty's moment where he is not okay but rick ignores it bcs here morty directly asks if rick is okay and rick lies about it (if u look closely u can see his pants are in fact beginning to catch on fire /j), so morty is chill now bcs he believes him

morty then goes in for a hug (im not attatching an image, im sure you've seen it 100 times) and this is our first sign ricks lying (well i mean. apart from context clues) beacuse usually he would push morty away or complain or be awkward (like in fear no mort lol) or uncomfortable but he just remains completely passive, his expression barely even changes

morty then goes on to ramble excitedly about their epic adventure because rick said hes fine but very quickly mortys voice is drowned out and lodftb begins to play. here morty is blurred out of focus and the camera zooms into rick

okay, so preceding it we have morty asking rick if he's okay, to which he responds yeah (liar 🤨)

this is, again, different from morty's moment because while morty's issue is being ignored, rick is very far from ignored, his issue is that he just like goes through life and the people around him don't realise how much he's hurting. morty isn't seen at all, rick is seen plenty, but he's never understood, not really. does this make sense? idk

anyway, going on, morty keeps contentedly talking in the ship whike rick stares blanky ahead, but when he realises morty expects him to answer, he gives him a nod, since it's whats expected so morty wont think somethings wrong (also the cinematography of the broken ship really adds to the scene i feel.

again, the contrast here is clear, morty is like completely frozen in his scene, and no one notices or cares at all. rick on the other hand contines to go through the motions as he's expected to despite his strong emotional turmoil going on, which we as an audience can see

morty keeps talking as they get back home, but eventually does leave and go idk to bed ig, leaving rick standing in the garage, looking blank and empty

so next we see him shutting off the power to his rick prime hunting room

this ofc shows its finally over, but the fact that they leave him stanfing in the dark there shows how he doesnt feel better or fufilled like he wished he would

okay, now we get to his family being shown, first up is summer, theyre sitting on the sofa much like in mortys moment, but morty isnt in this one and also summer is not on her phone (unusual) but watching a movie with has popcorn, and she seems happy, she seemingly asks rick to grab some drinks, which he does silently without even complaining (not usual for the whiniest man in the universe lol)

anyway here summer is more cheerful than usual, not just on her phone like she normally always is

next we see the two beths and jerry washing space beths ship, theyre having fun, laughing, messing around and spraying echother with the hose playfully, while rick watches from the window, away from them, actually right when the lyrics playing are "everybody seems so far away from me"

again, this isnt like mortys scene, where everyone is just having an ordinary day and not seeing how everything has changed for him or even looking at him, here everyone seems to be having a lot of fun, without rick, summer and morty both address him directly, but neither realise how Not Okay he is

and lastly we see the whole family at the dinner table, everyone is smiling and chatting amicably, rick is just sitting there still, not even eating. however, he is then addressed and seems to need a moment to zone back in, but when he does he grins and (assumedly?) cracks some kind of joke/says smth that makes everyone laugh (except jerry, who just looks kinda confused this whole scene lmao) and everyone goes back to their meals, rick also taking a bite of his own. however when everyone looks away, his smile drops again and cut to creditssss

the shot doesnt zoom back in on him now like it does for morty in his scene, because the fact that rick is not well has already been established now, instead the angle shows the whole family beacause the point is to show how everyones happy and think he is too because he's putting on His Act, so like the smile fades to show he is not okay but the angle and zoom stays the same to show that it is not seen or like understood to be that way. ykwim?

so here its portrayed that ricks problem is that people dont realise that hes hurting. he comes off as a jerk all the time because of how much suffering he holds inside, how much is going on in his mind (or i mean a lot of the time he just. is a jerk, but this isnt abt that rn), like when bird person tells morty rick is in great pain and morty says "come on bird person, rick isnt that complicated, hes jist a huge asshole" people dont realise it bcs of how much he struggles being vulnerable and talking abt his feelings but my boy is hurtingg :(, so this scene is kinda showing that they assume hes fine but really hes in a lot of emotional turmoil
