anyone who still reads my fics (hi I love you), you will definitely have noticed a new name that started popping up in tags and notes last year being blamed for many things

that would be my dearest darlingest @queerfictionwriter, Twist, who I met via the comment sections on my fics back in February 2022, because she had been commenting on several of my fics - especially the f&p series - repeatedly through 2021, which I had not been responding to because I was busy and other things,,, truly the number of comments I had to reply to in 2022 was atrocious

and to be honest with y'all? I fully expected this to be a fairly standard fandom friendship, which is not to downplay how deeply important all of those are to me, but to give an idea of just how absolutely wildly unexpected (positive) Twist has been

she feeds my writing ideas crack cocaine, and has been the reason for (at last counted) at least 175k words I wrote in 2022. no, that number is not a typo, and calling it the "least" is not an exaggeration, because that amount was based off of finished fics and did not include WIPs. in 2022 I finished 175,000 words worth of fic because Twist was either encouraging me in existing concepts or inventing brand new ones that grabbed me by the throat and demanded to be written. she made the fire&powder verse go again, when I had been stuck for over a year. she's also the reason that I didn't abandon that verse in a spiralling fit three separate times last year.

and even aside from that - she's just. she's so incredible, y'all. she's smart and she writes so fucking well (I am so deeply into several of her fics, and they're all in a fandom I've never even touched), and she's fucking hilarious and sweet and the kind of beautifully resilient you should only be able to find in fiction but she is far from fiction even if she feels so much larger than life. (which is funny because she's teeny.) she's also a raging petty bitch sometimes and I rank that on at least the top 10 things I adore about her. she's feral and kind and just so fucking fantastic I don't think I could ever put it into words, not really, because how do you really put words to the feeling of meeting a part of you that was missing?

actually that ao3 post about calculating kudos-to-hits ratios to decide if a fic is worth reading has me so pissed off. someone put real time and energy into something they are SHARING WITH YOU FOR FREE on a site where you can quite literally filter and search by anything you want and you're STILL trying to find a foolproof method to find stuff that's "good enough to read"???

Have been dealing with my Anxiety Disorder™ lately, because [gestures at everything]. Normally it’s a real low level kind of thing, I’m on medication, I occasionally have therapy, but I think now we’re all just kind of In It for a while and that’s just something we gotta deal with.

I would strenuously encourage everyone reading this to find the things that keep you afloat, whether it’s a video game, a TV show, standup comedy, anime, a book series, your favorite YouTube channel, one song on loop for eight entire days, whatever it is. Just find something to climb into for a few hours and protect your peace, build up your reserves, for as long as you can.

I feel like I haven’t done much in 2024 except hang on by my fingernails, and sometimes you gotta call that good.

ngl it does really annoy me when everyone accepts “ace people don't have sex” as the baseline assumption instead of ace people just not experiencing sexual attraction.

you can still have sex but be driven by different reasons, like to me it is a kind of affection and way to hang out with people that is influenced by the relationship we have with each other. i can think people are pretty to look at with or without their clothes without sexual attraction in the mix.

when i see something full of ppl assuming ace people don't have sex i always want to jump on it and be annoying like MEEEE I'M ACE PEOPLE WHO HAS SEX, WE EXIST WE EXIST STOP ASSUMING WE DON'T THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO STRAIGHT UP WILL NOT DATE OR BE INTERESTED IN ACE PEOPLE BECAUSE OF THIS MISCONCEPTION AND WE E X I S T.

as to how we feel about and handle sex, that varies person to person but sex favorable aces are a lot more common than you'd think. hell, figuring out I'm ace was the hardest thing to figure out about myself because all i ever saw people talk about was whether you have sex or not. I'm sure there's a lot more people who haven't figured it out for this same reason, and let me tell you it's hard to know you're missing a whole ass type of attraction when you've never experienced it before and didn't know it was missing to begin with!!

ace is not synonymous with sexless. aces who don't have sex don't speak for me, and y'all gotta stop letting them be the only face of the community. there are More Of Us, it is All Of Us.

accepting that baseline at face value leaves you uninformed and it's frustrating to see this over and over again. challenge yourself to do better and try understanding ace people more.
