i’ve seen so many people posting and commenting about jeff baena’s suicide, specifically about kathryn hahn, saying things like, “you can see the sadness in her eyes” in videos and photos from the golden eve. is this the time to finally have a discussion about the parasocial relationships some of you have with real-life people who don’t know you? yes, you can admire people, and yes, you can feel compassion and empathy for them, but you do not know how they feel or what’s going through their head. you do not know them. you don’t know aubrey, you don’t know her friends or family, and you aren’t a part of her life. honestly, you shouldn’t even be a spectator to this truly horrific and deeply personal tragedy. recognize that you’ve built a parasocial relationship with a complete stranger, and break out of it.

Being a proshipper DOES NOT mean I am into children. Far from it. Just because I think pieces of fiction deserve to exist does not mean I consume those pieces of fiction.

There are many tropes, pairings, etc. within fiction/fan fiction that I do like not, but I don’t go around harassing people who do like it, and I don’t think that those things I dislike should be removed from existence.

I dislike the "fiction doesn't affect reality" people and the moral purists equally because both of them are great examples of how both extremes of an issue can be harmful.

Like if you don't think fiction affects reality you need to take a good hard look at stuff like how/why propaganda is effective and what movies like Jaws has done to public consciousness but also on that note if you see the writing/exploration of concepts as endorsing them you need to read up on what the Hays Code was and why it was harmful.

Both of these stances are reductive

I just know Briana’s family are not going to stop posting his face 🙃 they have never and likely will never respect Louis’ wishes - and it’s simply because posting Freddie is the only way they can gain some attention it’s so sad

This whole situation has been fucked from the very start. I don’t excuse Louis or Briana either. They didn’t have infant Freddie’s best interests in mind when they showed him to paparazzi without protecting him. They used him during public outings to get publicity. Fighting with fans online only emboldened fans to speculate and harass. Trying to use Freddie as a path to becoming an influencer was selfish and stupid (for all involved).

Freddie will soon celebrate his 9th birthday, and I don’t think there’s any way in the world that he won’t see the incredibly toxic, vile, painful speculation about his parentage and about the people he loves and who (as I see it) love him. No one can protect him from what he’s about to encounter. No amount of talking to his family will undo this damage. None of this is Freddie’s fault. He didn’t choose to be born under these circumstances. Yet soon, every single one of his public actions will be scrutinized and analyzed; he will be trailed and filmed; he may need public security. And thousands of women will feel entitled to air “theories” about a young person with their invasive, microscopic lens that they wouldn’t tolerate on their own children for ten seconds.

The chilling fact is that many of these people are mothers, yet they’ve chosen to torment someone else’s son.

I have all the sympathy for Freddie but that also doesn’t benefit him. Nothing will make any difference now.
