Trigger warnings for dehumanization, racism, and genocide

As you can probably tell I've thought a bit about human perception of ourselves and other animals and what really makes us different since I don't think sentience/sapience is a mark of species supremacy or whatever. Why murder is Very Bad but killing animals without good reason is Less Bad? Why we hold more love for some species of animals and contempt for others? Why do people find Pinocchio plots so compelling? Why getting hit by a car and surviving means doing our best to save them as mercy for humans, but 'putting them out of their misery' as mercy for animals? Why is senseless violence less bad when it comes to animals and atrocious when it comes to people? Why is killing bad but being omnivorous or carnivorous is morally neutral? Or why being called an 'animal' is supposed to be an insult (because younger me Did Not Understand that because animals aren't bad (and also categorically speaking humans are animals))?

One of those things is why people who try to excuse stuff like racism and genocide with (extremely racist language warning) calling their targets 'animals' or 'not fully human' or just straight-up 'not human' and why it's such a prevalent tool for the oppressor,

Because when you think about it logically it doesn't make sense. Even if they were doing these atrocities to actual non-human animals, that doesn't make it okay or right. Humans wiping out entire types of animals off the face of the Earth is most definitely A Bad Thing, both because of the unnecessary brutality and because it's really bad for ecosystems. So why does dehumanizing propaganda suddenly mean it seems okay to cause mass death and suffering? Why would anyone think either of those things (mass death to people or to animals) are okay?? Why is anyone so desensitized to such unreasonable violence??

And I think it has something to do with how a lot of humans perceive themselves and other humans. Because of the us vs. them mentality that I think is a result of evolutionary need to protect ourselves from the dangerous parts of nature. I think that's the thing that gets weaponized as "humans are superior because they're Us." That's what causes people to care less about other animals than they do other humans, because it's a lot harder to kill a predator in self-defense or to hunt animals for food, if you're grappling with empathy for that creature. I think a balance is necessary, like when a hunter pays respects to the animals they hunt, but that requires thought and consideration for something unlike yourself, and that tends to be a lot harder than just getting yourself to have complete apathy when hunting for self-preservation. And that lends itself to becoming very dangerous when justification for violence changes with what you perceive as necessary, and when your perception of 'us' changes. Because if killing animals is fine because they're not human, then what's to stop you from killing anything you see even if you don't need to just because they're not 'us'? And what's to stop you from seeing other humans as okay to kill because they're not like the conception of 'us' that you've built up in your head?

Justifying atrocities with dehumanization, in my observation at least, seems to be a result of human selfishness taken too far, of dismissing the unity and need for diversity that's absolutely necessary for survival and more, and of constructed apathy.

...Wow I didn't think I had that much to say on the subject but here you go I guess. To be fair, this has genuinely helped me unpack and unlearn a lot of harmful internalized stuff. Of course, I'm open to others' views and constructive criticism.

Found myself thinking about Lissa, how all of the conversations about her are exclusively from unreliable narrator stand points.

With most flash back sequences we often the truth unfold. While in the story it is being recalled we as the audience get to see how everything actually went down, the narrators voice fading into the true scene but Lissa is never granted that same treatment.

In every flashback or mention of her she never speaks for herself, never recalls her own memories or her choices. It was always narrated by her children or by her ex-husband, all of which don’t have the full story from each other.

I think it is best symbolized in how every time anyone speaks of her it is through 2D story format.

She has a 3D model, one that is used for a large scene but it isn't used when Viren is recalling his memories with her and in-between that Kpp'Ar gets an animated sequence but not her.

Even if it wasn't intentional, it highlights how much of Lissa we still don't really know about. Everyone who speaks of her doesn't truly have her side of the story, they dont know her thoughts, her feelings, her actions and why she did them. They don't ever have the full picture.

We see her in the show once, when she speaks to Claudia and tries to talk her down.

But that isn’t Lissa speaking.

It's Soren.

It’s what Soren thinks of his mom, its what he thinks she would say to Claudia or maybe its even what he wants to say to Claudia and in turn to himself. They tell themselves stories of their mother in place of her.

Viren remembers her as a weeping woman he assaulted, Claudia remembers her as angrily shouting at her father, and judging by Lunjanne’s performance Soren remembers her as an elegant woman. Lissa has never been truly seen.

Which is fascinating because thinking about it Lissa is the only one of them to have the full story of their past.

Lissa knows what happened to Kpp’ar, she knows the spell preformed on Soren, She remebers a time with Claudia in the groove, and only she, now that Viren is dead, knows the real reason why she left.

It’s insane the amount of closure she holds in her hands for her children, the amount of things she can tell them but never has, and maybe never will. Perhaps like Viren, she will take it to the grave.

But we don’t really know if she would or would not.

neil perry - has a very typical "Oh shit" moment, has a breakdown and tells charlie, charlie consoles him and he comes to terms with it fairly quickly. obviously he vows to never tell his family.

todd anderson - president of internalized homophobia land. other people can be gay, thats all fine and dandy? but todd? oh theres something fundamentally wrong with him for wanting to kiss a boy. he cries and freaks out when neil confesses to him but he gets over it pretty quick. the gang comforts him and tells him its all gonna be okay.

charlie dalton - bro has a crush on a guy in freshman year and he thinks he HATES the guy because he gets all flushed and sweaty when he talks to him. He gets over it and doesnt really think about it until neil comes to him having his breakdown. He obviously comforts neil and has his own little "OHHH" moment but doesnt really say anything. He likes girls equally as much so he figures its not really that big a deal. (He tells ginny after theyve been together for like 3 years)

steven meeks - he figures himself out in like 6th grade and doesnt really care that much, like charlie he figures since he also likes girls its not such a big deal. yall, the group never gaf about nat, its no suprise (but very disappointing) that misty snitches on nat, and it's definitely no suprise nat gets no remorse when they find out she's been hiding coach ben, they are being very consistent!!!

they are quite literally a bee hive. when a new queen is ready, they kill off the old one, figuratively or literally.

in this case, nat's the old queen, and shauna (or travis, tai, etc etc, too many theories) is the queen ready to hatch.

first off, everyone turned against jackie the second they figured out she wasn't useful, when she was rejecting the wilderness, they shut her out, (literally) and kicked her off that pedestal she was on before the crash.

i personally think misty was a queen of the sort for a very short period of time. when they first crash and she knew how to take care of everything, everyone praised her praised her, albeit behind her back but still. they didn't know she was so useful, and it was obivous that she wasn't a favorite among the girls before the crash.

when they found the cabin and went into something of a routine, her use mellowed out, but when the group figured out she drugged them, they deemed her someone to be cautious around, not to praise.

lottie wasnt even a thought in anyones mind before her visions, and most treated her like she was insane until they went insane with her. she was put on the backburner when she couldn't hear the wilderness anymore (she's still kinda important because she's all spiritual n stuff but shh)

and it's also happening to travis too! lottie started drugging travis cause he said he heard voices— lottie tries to exploit him so they can connect to the wilderness again. they moment he says he couldn't hear them anymore, lottie moved on to the next.

but it's just so much more different and hurtful when it comes to nat because nat did so much.

all the group did was slut-shame and undermine everything she did for them before she became queen. and they were SO okay with eating nat during the first hunt when she was the main provider for months. it only when lottie said she was important that she was treated as such.

and she delivered as queen. lets be honest, all jackie and lottie could do was prayer circles and pep talks ; but nat taught gen to hunt, she helped make a garden, and raised animals. she made their lives more stable than anyone else would've. she even gave them fun with dinners, and story times, and solstices. but she's expected to act like jackie, who they shut out.

even in the adult timeline they can't even acknowledge what they did to— what she did for them to her face!

the most they did was tai saying "she's the reason we survived out there" behind her back, to which shauna just sighed in relucantance to. then going back to treating her like she was dramatic.

mistynat is entirely different in adult and teen timelines. in the adult timeline, Misty treats nat as either an equal or an idol, while teen misty, and all the other teens, are more petty, more jealous of nat because she's antler queen, and the wilderness chose her when they believed they deserved it.

of course shauna and misty jumped at the opportunity to kick her as queen if it meant they had a chance to be queen themselves

last little thing is that the yjs are more noticeable acting like their adult counterparts. this is something adult!misty would do— not to nat at that point but to someone she doesn't trust or has resentment towards. she find out information/secrets and exploits them for her own (or her friends) benefit. (and during the teen timeline i dont think shes truely loyal to anyone yet, because of how 'dog eat dog' it is out there. shes loyal to people who are useful, she clearly sees shauna as worthy since shes the first misty told)

my point is that misty betraying nat is not out of character for her and I keep seeing people say that it is. it's not. the yellowjackets are brutal and we forget that (and me yapping about how nat deserve better than how the yjs treat her but shhh)

Though I think a Naegi situation would be fun but instead of Arisu becoming the ultimate hope, he becomes the ultimate hearts player, or something. He's pretty damn good at navigating the trials, but usually is his own worst enemy due to overthinking or blaming himself. Uses his known knowledge of the games to help him reason as well. Probably had some half petrified half awestruck response to monokuma.

In this au, this danganronpa game would replace the canon 10 of hearts. I know that would make this kinda predictable, but I mainly wouldn't want to kill off characters that have major roles with the face card games. For everyone being an ultimate, they could be injected with something at the start that the game says "strengthens their ultimate". Which, of course is not possible but, danganronpa logic. It can placebo effect some people though. That'd be interesting to use in a trial.

Usagi would be the ult climber and Arisu's support. But in the emotional area, such as talking him down. Pulling him out of his mind when Arisu inevitably blames himself for every person that dies. He will. She also will probably be a suspect at some point and Arisu nearly breaks down because he thinks it's Usagi. Ofc it's not her but, he gets to spiral first.

Chishiya is the little shit antag. He starts as the ult ??? of the game and it gets revealed later that he's the ult doctor. Mainly because he doesn't want people to know about him and the profiles dont show the ults ig. But ofc he uses it to scheme and mess with the other players. He's probably pretty good at investigating and will likely figure out who the blackened is before everyone else. He's not going to tell people shit though. Maybe something offhand to Kuina that triggers an argument in the trial. He immediately notices how Arisu is leading the trials and finds it interesting which is the main reason Chishiya even kinda helps in the trials at all. Other than not wanting to die with the group if they get it wrong ofc. Chishiya lacks the charisma that Arisu has to convince the entire room if he speaks up regardless so, if he can get Arisu to the same conclusion he's at, the trial will progress. That, and according to Chishiya, everyone else there is an idiot. He doesn't want to talk to them anyway. He also just, sits down during the trials. He runs with his hands in his pockets, he's not going to stand for a full trial.

Niragi would be the ult video game engineer and this of course, confuses the hell out of everyone. He's still aggressive as hell, he's still Niragi after all. But that means he's also smart. So he knows better to go against the rules. I'd like to think he's the one to try to break monokuma at the start and gets injured from it. He's a diamonds player, but maintaining his dangerous personality would make for him to be an interesting secondary antagonist.

Kuina would be either the ult martial artist or ult stylist. Or she can be assigned the first but say she's the stylist in her heart (bless). Probably heavily debates killing someone if a motive pertains to hurting her mom but either doesn't succeed or gets talked out of it. Likely similar to Aoi or Akane survivor status.

As for other characters, I'd likely add Tatta, Momoka, Asahi, Hatter, Last Boss, Aguni, and Ann. Otherwise I don't have too much an idea on who to slap in to fill out the rest of the cast cuz uh, not that many more characters from the beach that I can slap in here. Plus anyone bonus would be obvious cannon fodder, I already have too many survivors, and I don't really want to put in ocs. I'm already going to have to likely pull some bs someone survives an execution type of beat so. Maybe it's just a shorter killing game. I could have the clear condition be "find the in game mastermind" and have it have a similar solution to the show. If the blackened is successful they could just, let them out of the game grounds but you wouldn't get any visa days or something. So, in reality, it wouldn't help any of them, but of course that isnt stated and none of them know that.

No. Get active and not in a way that makes people look like fools. But in a way that serves the truth for what it is, you dont have to be rude to do that. Just because you dont know something or are trying to protect the truth, I dont have to claw you down. Stand up straight, the only thing ill tell you is, no... thats not straight enough. Stand up taller. They sent not the Governments tax dollars overseas but ours. They raised inflation by printing out so much money groceries have more than doubled. finally giving fem danyal her own au and fulfilling my 'danny is an animal whisperer' agenda at the same time: mother of monsters danyal 2.0

i say "2.0" because TECHNICALLY 'mother of monsters danyal' is an au I made back in June for Dark fem!Danyal (who I promptly named Layal). However, I haven't posted much for her yet, and I like the "mother of monsters" premise too much to leave it only to Layal. Plus Danyal in that au was going to become the mother of monsters anyway, just with significantly less world domination and mass extinction.

'Animal whisperer' Danny has been something I've been thinking about since my latest DP 'wolfpack au' post and it's! So fun to think about, and who no better to assign the idea to than Danyal Al Ghul? Who comes from a family infamously known for their love of animals and nature?

Fem Danyal is just purely self-indulgent. *gestures wildly at her* i just lomvb,,, her,,,, I've only really mentioned her in context of the 'Things in Threes' au/my first Danyal al Ghul au with the facial scar, but she's!!! I love her. She deserves her own au <33

So kill three birds with one stone! Make a post about it.

Anyways, Danny has a large lair. Similar to cult leader danyal, her lair is a giant mountain region resembling nanda parbat with a big temple/palace-like area built into the mountain. It's large, it's overflowing with natural flora, with its own mini-floating islands hovering over some areas, and it's also completely empty.

Danny takes one look at her lair upon first meeting, -- noting that it looked relatively smaller from the outside -- and promptly, with the elegance of an Al Ghul, goes "What the hell??" Because yes, while she does enjoy her own solitude and privacy, this is a bit ridiculous.

For heaven's sake, there's even a massive lake in there! What's she going to do with all this space? Can she make it any smaller? Why is it so big in the first place? This looks borderline like one of the mega-islands!

She finds out later that apparently, the amount of ectoplasm a ghost has can have an effect on the size of their lair. And since she has such a large core, her lair reflects that. Wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey stuff, it's bigger on the inside so it doesn't take up "too much space" on the outside. Don't worry about it too much.

Danyal isn't totally opposed to having such a large lair, she's just... a bit baffled by it. It feels like so much wasted space is all. All this flora and no fauna to enjoy it with. It's practically eerie.

She decorates her temple-palace area, transforming rooms to match her needs as she sees fit. In the center of the inner gardens is a massive tree that she likes to climb, with twisting, winding branches. Sam and Tucker have honorary rooms, even if they can't safely leave the specter speeder for long periods of time, even with proper safety equipment. So does Jazz. Ali (Dani) has one too, but he can actually use that one, and Danny brought him to her lair so he could decorate it himself.

She has a personal garden, but for the most part she lets the flora exist as it is. Too much space to cultivate it en masse anyways.

Skip to a few weeks later, on her next visit to Clockwork. She developed a habit of going to see him semi-regularly just because. She enjoys his wisdom, and he has a lot of stories to tell, and when he's not being the cryptic and esoteric timekeeper, he's a bit goofy.

(pushing my dadwork agenda here,,, i think Danny deserves to go 'hey, Lord Clockwork, do you want me to buy you something' while she's at walmart, only to receive a singular glowing sticky note that says 'cucumber gatorade'.)

(She insists on referring to him with his proper titles even for the most mundane of things because it's proper, but Clockwork sees a future where she eventually calls him "Cee" and by all things in existence is he determined to get there. Anyways,,,)

On her next visit to Clockwork, just as she is about to leave, Clockwork stops her and goes; "Ah, I have something for you. Hold out your hands."

Danny does as such, and Clockwork doesn't give out things often, so her curiosity has spiked to the highest levels. He turns away from her for a moment, using his staff to summon whatever it is he needs, and when he turns around.

He drops a fish into her hands. Granted, a fish in a small glass tank. But a fish nonetheless. A small one, roughly about the size of her finger, with a blue-black, eel-shaped body and four sets of glowing eyes. She can see thin, almost translucent, but spiny fins down its back and the start of bioluminescent markings. It's swimming around in circles in its small container.

"Lord Clockwork." Danyal says all too calmly.

"Yes, Danyal?"

"What is this?"

"That is an adolescent leviathan, Danyal." She’s transfixed onto the tank, but she doesn’t need to see Clockwork’s face to hear the smile he’s stifling.

The myriad of emotions that runs through her all at once threatens to overwhelm her, and she can’t tell if the feelings are negative or positive. So she carefully closes her eyes to breathe in through her nose.

“Clockwork.”

“Ah, I see you’ve dropped formalities.”

She ignores that.

“Why have you given me an adolescent leviathan?”

She's expecting the trickster to look amused when she opens her eyes. Instead, he just looks endeared. "I know you're fond of animals," he says, "and you always look amazed when you come across an animal of the realms. So I thought you might enjoy taking care of the young beast, it's mother is dead so it has no one to care for it."

Oh.

"But, if you don't like it," Clockwork's hands reach out for the tank, "I can simply take it back--"

Danyal shifts the tank out from his reach and hugs it possessively. "I never said that. How do I care for it?"

And so clockwork gives her a list, and when Danyal returns to her lair, she sets up a large tank in her room for the leviathan to swim in -- it's much too small for the lake right now, she thinks. She'll feel better if it's somewhere she can find it. She names him Suhā.

Suhā grows quickly, and by the end of the mortal month she transforms one of the rooms into a large pond for him to swim around in. He's a very loyal beast, recognizing her as it's mother of some kind. Danyal takes great care ensuring that her beastie gets quality care, and Suhā swims to the surface to see her when he senses her in the room.

It spirals from there. Somehow, Pandora catches wind that Clockwork gave her a leviathan, and so the next time Danyal visits the Greater Athens, she gives her a baby chimera. It's eyes are still sealed shut, Danyal can't bring herself to say no. She names the little beastie Firas.

Frostbite hears about it too, and not to be outdone, gives her an animal she's never even heard of. Infinite-realms born, apparently. A fox-like creature with two small horns like an impala, four eyes, and tall legs. The name isn't something she's quite sure how to write down, and she's positive that her friends won't be able to comprehend it. She names her Eira.

Getting the three of them used to each other was... interesting. Suhā tried to eat Firas when Danyal first introduced the two, and they've hated each other ever since. Firas and Eira are seemingly getting along. Her island already feels full enough with the three of them on it.

Of course, that's not the end of it. With her luck, she begins stumbling across other monsters. Realms-borne or otherwise. An injured hydra in the Grecian islands that, through lots of trial and error, Danyal is able to rehabilitate and heal. It routinely comes to visit her afterwards.

A griffin with a broken wing that she moves permanently to the island that likes to keep to itself, but tends to come down when she's near. It gets along best with Firas.

A panther-like monster from the Shades Woods that had six legs and three tails, with ends that reminded her of a venus flytrap. It stuck around the heavy foliage and she can only make out where it was when she saw its golden eyes reflect.

She befriends a young indrik with its leg injured, and much like the hydra it follows her back to her island, and stays there in the mountains. It comes out when she's alone, much like her other beasts.

She receives two more leviathan -- one from clockwork, and one she finds herself while exploring the deeper and darker recesses of the Ghost Zone. It was huddled against the carcass of its mother, and she managed to befriend and get close enough to it to bring it back to her island. Suhā is fully grown by then, with a head bigger than Danyal herself and he still likes to stick her head out of the water for nuzzles when she's near.

He's not very happy with his new siblings, but he's not trying to eat them when she's not looking. So she calls it a win in her book.

And it's not just large beasts either; smaller animals begin popping up when she's not looking. Bird-like creatures and small mammals, and she swears she saw a doe (or something resembling a doe) grazing in the forest while she was walking by.

She takes back with her a lone snake egg once, and it grows so big it wraps around her island and sleeps with its massive head on the mountain beside the temple, like some smaller breed of Jörmungandr.

And on and on it goes. Some of the beasts she comes across never step foot onto her island, some of them follow her back, while others she has to carry back. Not all of the ones that follow her stay, and Danny rehabilitates the injured and releases them when they're fully healed.

It's hectic, and busy, and frankly she loves it. Some of her rehabilitated beasts return to visit her, or to have their children somewhere on the island, or whatever it is they need to do.

She becomes a bit infamous for it. She goes to visit Dorathea once, and as she's walking through the streets she can hear some of the denizens whispering while she walks past.

"Is that her?"

"Her highness' friend? Yes--"

"--that's the one--"

"--Mother of monsters--"

Danny's not sure how to feel about that.

Although, she can't say she's opposed.

Danyal Al Ghul, Mother of monsters, raiser of beasts. It has a nice ring to it.

ok so i get that madoka magica is like peak anime, an eternal work of art and trancendent divine tragic yuri, but like i wanna yap about the amazingness of orpheus and eurydice’s tragedy.

so orpheus and eurydice’s story comes from thousands of years of cobbled together bits and pieces from oral tradition right? its not really a medium that lends itself to continuity and meaningful foreshadowing, symbolism and the like. its honestly probably that ancient poets just thought, “i think this is how it went? whatever story some old guy told me twenty years ago probably did this right?” and just went full send on whatever the hell they felt like talking about, superimposing their own interpretations and perspectives onto this fable. ALSO THE GREEK MYTH HAS ITS OLDEST SOURCE FROM ANCIENT ROME, THATS *CENTURIES* AFTER ITS SETTING. theres no way any modern depiction in any way can stay “accurate” or “faithful” to its original form, our “original” is already a re-telling thats basically fanfic at that point. it has three (3) total story beats, eurydice dies, orpheus goes to the underworld, orpheus fails. its not so much about the story, i think, more of the message it sends about the finality of death and futility of humanity in the face of death, which I would argue is like the crux of most tragedies. it always ends in death, and the tragedy of their love centres around death, and their inability to escape it. i think it is more of a relatable tragedy to us non-magical girls turned immortal divinity, even though absolutely none of this shit is literally realistic to anyone outside a fictional world, its an analogy, of the suffering caused from the death/abandonment of loved ones. they don’t really need further depth into their characters nor relationship, i think it exists nicely as an ideal or concept, to be doven into by anyone.

i can’t say much about madohomu because its been a while since i had last seen it, but from what i remember it gets kinda insane with the lore and yeah i remember it being an amazing experience with brilliant writing, but i don’t want to say definitively that its a better story. it is, but like i dont want to admit it ok?? its a single story of a single writer’s mind, while my classical greek otp is a mishmash of thousands of years of artists of all kinds.

even with the messiness of mythos and the simplicity at its core, orpheus and eurydice have many different versions of their tale over time, a real life history that madohomu just dont have, and i think it sort of makes up for the less stable premise. it has just a richer history that i think is really interesting, weaving in the history of each storyteller in each rendition.

take hadestown the featured pic, it plays real fast and loose with the commonly accepted lore of the myth — the song he sings is different, the setting changes from the golden age of heroes in the hellenistic area to some sort of western railroad wild west-ish place, eurydice isnt a nymph, the satyrs arn’t there, etc. — but it still runs through the same simple story beats. it is different to ovid’s metamorphoses’ depiction of them, where they seem to focus more on the “no matter what you can’t escape death”, whereas hadestown seems to say more that “no matter what you can’t escape capitalism” (i know im grossly generalising it, shush.) all this to say its a different take, made by different people, and my own take in my mind is also different to all of yours as much as yours are different to all others, even if it is only in the most minute way. theres no right answer with these old ass myths, while there can be a slight directive with something more modern and crafted as pmmm.

theres just something super tragic about the fact that no matter how many renditions and versions orpheus and eurydice’s story goes through, all of them end up with the two being separated. their most remembered story beat is that orpheus fails her, and they don’t manage to live happily ever after, which is a special sort of tragic at least to me. also im defending orpheus now. i swear he’s not an absolute loser failure ok??? hes somewhat functional, but less so without eurydice. he’s literally walking out of the underworld, escaping death. at his point in time, NO ONE HAS DONE THAT BEFORE (no one still has, but i digress). the sheer stress of that compounded with the fact that he’s dealing with gods — who in ancient greece are famously known to not want to benefit mortals like he — would make anyone in his position weak. its a little mistake, that unfortunately has grave consequences attached. how easy is it to hear a sound behind you and instinctively look and check? with the knowledge that your love of your life may or may not be behind you no less. he was just about leaving the underworld, the sight of the sky ahead of him, what if he thought they had already succeeded? a small misconception, a tiny movement of the head, just a small turn of his eyes and everything crumbles before him? its his fault, and he knows it best. but also i can’t judge him for that, he does way better than i think most people would do in that situation. most people wouldn’t have even stepped foot beyond the acheron and he went fully in and out without killing himself (entirely).

"y'all probably know the story of orpheus and eurydice. but they are SO tragedy. they are TEXTBOOK tragedy. they redefined the genre. on their literal wedding day as she's walking down the aisle eurydice gets bit by a snake and dies. orpheus loves her so much he goes down to the underworld to try and save her. hades allows him to take her back to the land of the living, as long as she walks behind him, and he cannot look back, otherwise her soul will be taken. he's mostly fine , but begins to doubt and at the very end of the tunnel, he looks back. they lock eyes for a moment before she disappears back into hell. orpheus is then so distraught that he wanders the earth singing mournful melodies and gets stoned to death by some nymphs who think his sad songs are bumming them out. DUUUUDE their story consumed my every waking thought as a child."

Madohomu:

"madoka magica aired 12 episodes in 2011, with a sequel movie titled “rebellion” released in 2014. it’s been over 10 years since then, and these two have become the face of yuri. if someone makes a meme about loving yuri and makes a collage of example ships, madohomu are 100% gonna be present. video essays, fanart, fics, music videos and all kinds of fan projects featuring them are still wildly popular on all social media platforms.

but let’s talk about them (without going into too many spoilers, so this will be about the thematics in their relationship). they are light and darkness. the ying and the yang. forever intertwined. one would not exist without the other, yet they cannot exist together. for madoka has too much love for every living thing and too little for herself. and homura has too much love for madoka it blinds her to everything and everyone else, and she struggles with deep self-hatred. madoka has forsaken her own existence for the world, and homura has forsaken the world she created for her. the show has a lot of religious imagery, and madoka is akin to a god; there’s a shot of homura, who grew up catholic, kneeling at the feet of a gigantic statue of madoka, praying, but her hands stain her clothes. because if madoka is god, then homura is lucifer - specifically, iblis, the muslim version of lucifer, who loved god so much he betrayed him, for he’d rather defy him than bow to his creation, humans. and homura would rather defy the sanctity of madoka’s wish, rather than obey its laws, for she will take madoka’s happiness in her hands, if she refuses to. in the movie, dolls representing homura’s inner machinations yell, “gott ist tot”, for homura’s god, madoka, dies in the movie, when homura remembers that madoka was human first, and godhood was something she reached to save everyone, against her best interest and happiness. their relationship is one of love, kindness, obsession, devotion, hope, faith, worship - they are the thesis and the antithesis, the beginning and the end, the alpha and omega, an unstoppable force and an immovable object. forever locked in a struggle, never fully embracing, for madoka will always sacrifice herself for the world, and homura will always doom the world and herself for madoka."

Robin chose Steve. Robin made the conscious and deliberate decision that she could and would trust Steve. She already liked him! She had fun working and bantering with him! They were already on their way to being weird little bffs and the torture just expedited the process. Steve chose Robin just the same! He thinks she's fun and cool and likes her so much! He chose to be honest and open with her too, putting himself out there.

Even though their interests on the surface level don't match why wouldn't they share them? Steve clearly caves when Robin wants to watch a movie he doesn't think he'll like, Robin can watch a March madness game or five.

Stop trying to take away their bond oh my god people can be close to more than one person!!! Their best friend doesn't have to be dismissive or mean or whatever in order for a romance to be special to them!
