Mina reminds me of Amy rose from Sonic in the sense that she says she wants to fall in love one day but can't really do it (its somewhere on her wiki that Mina said this in the novel i think. im unsure how the autopsy situation happens but it probably traumatizes Mina if they didn't knock her out with some strong meds, they cut her to look at her organs and was like "Yo man this is normal, nothing here is alien" my next thing is after they fix her up somebody probably uses a quirk to either make her forget this happen or something like this cause they don't want the police on them so it's like this never happened, but Mina has the scars but never ask questions about it

How this even happen and Mina lived, i don't know, how this even happened and her mom didn't go to jail? Maybe she did go to jail, cause theres this whole other idea i have where Mina gets put with her auntscause her brother for some reason or another can't keep her legally? idk and mom is probably in jail so she gets put with her aunts who dislike children like actually are bad people and mistreat her HOW SHES GOING TO UA LIKE THIS IDK but it's a blessing to her moving into the dorms

honestly like... in 90% of franchises i would say to keep the ages in mind, but the Sonic franchise is kind of unique in how mind-bogglingly inconsistent it is? the numbers given to each character have been really inconsistent and all over the place — and also seem to only be present in the West, from my understanding? i could be wrong about that part, so take it with a grain of salt. but yeah, i sincerely do not care about the 'canon ages' the characters used to have because SEGA clearly... doesn't?

i was aware of Sonic for like eight years before i got really into the fandom, and i had no idea any of these characters had ages until literally last year. i have always interpreted Sonic and Shadow as early to mid 20s, and Blaze and Amy as like. 19, Tails as 12, etc. Silver is the only character i really do actually interpret as his 'canon age' because he is written as younger to me. these things haven't really changed for me because it's just not at odds with the canon we see in the games or the comics.

the way i see it, SEGA has never cared about the characters acting as the arbitrary ages they have given them so like... why should i? especially since they don't tell their own writers how old they should act. and the fact that even SEGA quietly decanonized the ages is, to me, evidence that they'd rather leave it up to interpretation.

i think some parts of this fandom have gotten so hung up on what is 'really canon' that they don't leave room for fanon interpretations. they seem to care more about being a fan the "right way" than about letting other people have fun in their own ways, you know? i dunno. like, on the one hand, i get it, but i have seen some really vile harassment based on numbers SEGA themselves don't even consider canon, so... i dunno. i dunno! i avoid age discourse like the plague for this exact reason. i know good people who consider the ages canon and i know good people who have their own views. i think fandom is big enough for both.

i just think that using those numbers to decide what ships are worth harassing people over is unnecessary. and also just harassing people about giving them the wrong ages seems shitty to me anyway? why would anybody spend their limited energy being angry about something that's so insignificant? i don't understand it.

but anyway that's not the point. i'm sorry your friends won't hear you out. i don't know much about your situation but to me, if they're not willing to give you the benefit of the doubt, they don't sound like very good friends.

i might be biased, though. i used to be part of a friend group like that and it was terrible for my mental health. it wasn't sustainable at all. i felt like i had to walk on eggshells and be perfect all the time or else they'd all turn on me — and they did. in late 2019 there was a huge fallout because i made a mistake, and it completely messed with my head. i spent three months dissociating like crazy and cutting off everyone i knew irl. in the end i'm glad im not part of that community anymore because they cared much more about never doing anything wrong than actually doing something right.

that whole thing is largely why i try so hard to keep my blog a relaxed and calm place. i don't want to live the way i used to, and i don't want anyone else around me to have to live like that either. you deserve to be around people who are willing to give you the benefit of the doubt!

i don’t think giving sonic “parents” was a good idea. it doesn’t fit sonic as a character or as a franchise

i dont like Tom. i don’t think they should have made him a cop. i don’t really think they should have given sonic a human co-protagonist. if they did, they should have given him one around his age (a la merlina, shahra, Chris) and not an adult man cop

i dont like the theme of the first movie. staying in green hill zone was a stupid thing to have them do. Sonic’s nomadic by nature and doesn’t give a shit about expectations. having him get tom to stick around in a small town (and, in spirit, stick to the status quo) was dumb

i dont like their characterization of sonic

i dont like they did the two worlds thing and made sonic & co aliens

i dont like jim carrey as Eggman. his Eggman fucking sucks.

i dont like that its cgi/in real world. it would have been good animated like the mario movie or even the sonic mania adventures. I think this also limits them in a lot of ways, in terms of practical effects and such.

Go tired of seeing "old hedgehog" designs of sonic and shadow with them just having greyed out quills and decided to do something about it

And yes Metal (also Chaos) is here too. Metal is a bit rusty (literally) but overall well kept and fancy. I think eggman would be dead by now, so i gave it a crown on its ears to symbolize how it took over i guess.

So Sonic and Shadow dont function like the others here, in that- while saving the world and whatnot, every so often they'd either find a kid following them (similarly to Amy and Tails back in the days) or save a kid during their whole adventure.

The first time this happened was just Luca (a black jaguar) who followed Sonic during one his little solo adventures and Sonic was like "do you have parents i can take u back too" and she was like "nah" so of course, after seriously looking for her parents through ppl with database accesses like tails and rouge, he was like "u wanna stay with me?" And Luca was like "YEAH!"

And then Sonic called Shadow like "Shadow do u want kids" and which he replied "what?" And then suddenly they adopted Luca. This is how it began.

Eventually, as one grew up, theyd find another, and then another and then well now they have like 11 kids in total.

Now, after ALL of this, they took a break and after that years worth of a break were like "wanna make a kid? Like for the challenge of having to that from scratch"

And sonic was like "what?"

So they hit up the labs and made a bio kid who is 2 months old and is the most hectic fucking thing theyve ever had to deal with so thanks for the prior 10 experinces (alas they do not compare to the mega menace)

OKAY SO i think tails would be so interested in the jungle pandas, although knuckles would also like them but tails would LOVE them, LIKE the moment he finds out that there are pandas with unique personalities he is completely AMAZED and he automatically does a super quest to find them all and tame them all

at the moment when amy finds out that tails has a garden full of pandas she begs tails to give her one, he ends up giving in at the end and realizing that he has too TOO many pandas, then he considers giving some to his friends

he would give a playful and lazy panda to sonic, since they would remind him of his blue pal

MEANWHILE HE WOULD STAY WITH MANY WORRIED PANDAS for the simple fact that they are cute and are afraid of lightning, which makes him feel identified...buuuut he would probably give several of them to cream!

after having to endure the begging of sonic, tails gives in to leaving an aggressive panda inside of shadows house (although he already thought about getting it back in case the prank went wrong, he didnt want the poor panda to be stressed all the time), since sonic was totally convinced that the animal would attack them over and over again...but to their surprise they both ended up getting along... really well, some time later shadow ended up finding out about sonic and tails " funny prank" but they didnt care since they were happy with their new friend, they had become very protective of their panda and totally built him a whole house for himself...

AND FINALLY TAILS WOULD GIVE WEAK PANDAS TO AMY AS AMY WOULD FEEL VERY OVERPROTECTIVE TOWARDS THEM AND KNUCKLES WOULD PROBABLY LIKE AGGRESIVE PANDAS TOO

the last thing i have to contribute that has nothing to do with the above is that shadow and sonic would totally compete for absolutely EVERYTHING, who is the first to kill a golem? who is the first to beat the wither? who is the first to find diamonds? who is the first to find the warden? tails would be so exhausted from seeing them die and make fun of each other in the chat that it would get to the point of him kicking them off the server

I dont really like the idea of making that one of her main traits, im not too fond of the idea of her fawning over anyone cool who flirts with her, or that her friends would tease her about. The show already liked pulling that with Staci and having any other random female character get heart eyes and cling to some guy whenever it suited them, its cheap and plays too much into the "Token Girl" of the group.

I was planning to go into more detail about it when i post my redesigns for her, but generally i wanted Rosette to be the most drastic change among the cyborgs. I wanted the focus of her character to be that as a cyborg, she would ironically loosen up more compared to Amy.

She would meet new people and try new things in the city, particularly i wanted her to gain more of an interest in the rock/metal scene both as a pun and to play more into her enjoying "Dude-itude's" little impromptu rock performance in that one episode. Her hobby of baking/cooking would be substituted with metallurgy, which would also have her both more out in the field and in forges.

This shift towards a more adventurous attitude and shared interest in music would lead to her and Cyan growing closer together as friends and be more comfortable around each other, especially because i wouldnt want them to share the same "romantic tension" as their organic counterparts. However, that doesnt mean i would completely strike romance from her character, she does end up meeting someone who sparks her interest...

Current headcanons for possible stobotnik boom!Stone

He works at/owns a coffee shop a couple towns over. Eggman was there to pick up a specific thing and decided to get coffee on the way out. It was love at first sight. Stone put a heart next to the name on the cup. The next few weeks sees a serious decrease of Eggman sightings and Sonic's feelings are a tad bit hurt. The team investigate and discover no, Eggman doesnt have a new nemesis, he's just utterly failing to flirt with this one barista and its painful to watch.

Eggman decided he cant rely on machines to handle everything for him after a few to many mishaps so he hires a personal assistant. Stone turns out not only to be super competent but half the time he's more efficient than the machines and he makes the best lattes. Theres a behind the scenes rivalry between Stone and a couple robots. Eggman has no idea he's crushing mega hard on Stone but everybody else knows. If Sonic has to hear one more rambling rant about "how great Stone is" he's gonna scream

Stone somehow inserts himself into Eggman's life. Nobody has any idea how it happened (well Sticks has a few theories). Including Eggman. He just showed up one day and never left

Stone opens a coffee shop that becomes a popular new hang out place. He's not much of a character but he is in most episodes. He can be seen serving coffee, staring longingly at Eggman from across the room, and chatting with costumers. Theres a unspoken rule about not damaging his shop during fights (his coffee is too divine. No one is willing to risk not being able to get some because he closed the shop down)

Villain Stone who does like two attacks, is then invited by Eggman to join forces, and next thing anyone knows they're partners

Villain Stone who's trying to get Eggman's attention by making him jealous stealing his nemesis and becoming his rival

Stone gets one episode and then after that he's just occasionally seen in the background and given two lines. Stone moves to town (Sticks is convinced he's a government spy placed here to gather information) and as the only other human in town, Amy is convinced Eggman and Stone are destined to be together and she works nonstop to create romantic situations to trap them in. It somehow works. Eggman is constantly calling to reschedule fights because "i cant do thursday im going bowling with Stone"

Stone works as a government liaison. He's got a neutral relationship with both Eggman and team Sonic (even Sticks. She stops by his house to ask convoluted questions that he patiently answers or to spy on him) but seeing him usually means "uggggg what now" for all of them. Stone has a closet shrine filled with pictures of Eggman and the only people who know are Sticks and Knuckles. They dont talk about it

The government sends a group to the island to investigate something and everyone is super aggravated by all the red tape. Stone is the guy in charge. Eggman is pissed at the group and Stone in particular for grinding everything to a halt until Stone takes off his sunglasses and theres a cartoon "pretty girl hairflip" kinda thing when Eggman sees Stone's eyes for the first time. Now instead of stuttering and flushing in anger when talking to Stone he stutters and flushes because of butterflies. Stone and Shadow either have unexplained beef or are the kind of friends where you quietly stand together because you dont know anybody else here which is also unexplained. Either way its weird

(Oh what if Maria was one of the members of the group and thats why Shadow was hanging around oh great im going on a tangent now-)

(Or maybe Rouge is there and her and Shadow act like old friends. This is only relevant because Knuckles spends the whole episode looking at Rouge with heart eyes and theres a "get Knuckles a date" side plot)

i think i do want amy and rouge to be in the next sonic movie, especially if its gonna be an sa2 adaptation, but i cant help but worry that if they try to introduce shadow AND rouge AND amy in the same movie then at least one of those characters (most likely amy. tbh.) isnt gonna get the amount of screentime and development that they deserve. especially considering in the game timeline amy was introduced much earlier and by sa2 was already an established character while rouge and shadow were the newcomers. and then theres also the human characters who are gonna be making the cast a lot bigger than it was in the game so more people to divide the screentime among. like what if amy is in sonic 3 and she gets like 5 minutes of screentime and her big moment with shadow is given to another character again

OH WOW thank you for answering so fast!! I wanted to ask because in my opinion, Shadow is written kind of... poorly.. at the metal virus arc :c and I love how you characterize Shadow!! I was wondering, if you could, how would you have written him in it?

okay so this got. RAELLY long. it’s under the read more.. hhaaa... get ready for rambles.

before i start on what i would love to see different, here’s a few things that i really liked about his characterization in idw:

shadow being persistent about what he thinks is right, being very straightforward and strict in wanting to execute his ideal

the way he stepped down and let sonic try his way instead of being stubborn because sonic made a very good point. Shadow wants to be fair, and if he of all people deserves a chance, then so should eggman. kind of ties back to maria also, which is a nice nod to have considering it seems like modern writers for sonic usually treat the ending of shth as “ok she never existed to him anyways”

i like that he uses his GUN affiliation to his advantage to do good and help people (even if by rouges account he does it because he doesnt want to deal with zombots)

he has great devotion to make sure the truck is safe and peole get a chance to get out, giving (according to the comics anyways) more than 100% of his power dealing with hundreds if not thousands of zombots alone

I like that there’s a nod to shadow being insecure about his status as ultimate life form, and he is tempted to get infected just to prove to himself he really CANT get sick and he really IS a perfect being. He struggled a lot with the high expectations that were laid upon him, the expectations he’s laying upon himself.

I like how he had a great sense of shock and defeat when he realized that he DID get infected. It’s very true for him to be thrown off by it, get a little careless due to shock. its natural. it’s good.

his “i told you something like this would happen” towards sonic in the beginning of #19 is justified. He hates that he was right, he always is, and he wishes he wasnt. he could’ve prevented this, but its too late now. then later he risks getting infected with the metal virus, and he DOES get infected. He suddenly wasnt right anymore. This sense of irony... it’s probably one of the reasons he has trouble to concentrate on the fight. it’s a nice parallel. IDK if ian intended it to be this deep, but that’s what i read into it.

(i also want to point out that i like that herms gives everyone slightly diverse “skin”-tones. like diverse undertones. im still peeved they are all pretty pale but its hoenstly a nice little nod)

okay so here’s what i think could’ve gone better:

I feel like shadow being the one to drive the truck into the city is a reference to 06, where he is driving around in various vehicles. That in itself is nice, and i think shadow is a person who prefers to do things himself if there’s a lot at stake (which there was a lot of peoples lives) but i also think that he would think of himself as a powerful shield. He would rather be the one overseeing the battlefield insread of being the designated driver. He knows he was created for the frontlines, and he is someone who knows he can survive the front lines. He is not a sacrefice tobe made, he is the one who will make sure that no one else has to sacrefice themselves. Shadow should’ve been on site from the very beginning. Where is the rest of GUN anyways? Those low level humans should make an effort to protect the life on their planet.

Shadow did absolutely NOT use 100% of his pwoer to protect the truck. He could EASILY have done more. He can lift trucks. He could use chaos blast. He could easily have prevented just faling victim to the zombots so easily.

As mentioned above it kind of DOES make sense for him to go down easily due to being infected, but I think this was the wrong time to let him get infected. I think he wouldn’t let his guard down and carelessly touch a zombot. He would not give in to the temptation to test his limits like this if there was not a greater cause. I think he would easily break if someone he cared about (other than sonic) fell victim to the metal virus. This is something that would get him emotional, to get careless. He knows sonic can outrun the virus, but rouge can’t. Amy, Tails, Knuckles, Vector, all of Sonic’s friends can’t outrun the virus. There’s a big chance that he is immune, there’s a slim chance he is not. But even with that slim chance, he knows he could outrun it, just like sonic. Losing someone he cares about to the virus would remind him of his superiority, of how fragile life is and of his responsibility to protect life itself. Any restrait would be gone. He would be driven by guilt and anger at himself, that he could’ve done better, that he HAS to do better. It’s something that spirals him totally out of control. It’s something that would make him want to prove to himself that he has the ability to fix it all. because it’s all his fault.

this is honestly something that is so important. he feels responsible for this, because he did what was right and gave sonic and eggman a chance. In his mind, sometimes the right hting to do is the wrong thing to do, because sometimes only wrong actions get you to the right goal. he is a gray character like that, and i think it’s not shown enough. his regret and guilt don’t surface enough so that anyone who is not as invested in the character would be able to read it out of #19. there’s a lot of stuff going on inside shadow in this issue and its just. not enough time to unpack it all. this whole deal of him getting infected was too rushed. (as mentioned above i wouldve preferred he get infected a little later or under other circumstances)

I think shadow is aware of his responsibility as living weapon to not fall into the hands of the enemy. he has learned what it means to be manipulated, he learned what it means if he was used as a weapon by an enemy of life on earth. he does NOT want to be used as an object of destruction ever again. He would RUN. even if hesitant, but his emotions would make him excell even in that. he would make sure he’d run faster than sonic. he’s want to make sure that he’d give 110% and cure himself, something sonic couldn’t do.

the way he would go down in my mind is him excerting himself. He would absolutely reject help. he would prefer to not have any contact with anyone at all. For one because he feels guilty and he doesn’t want to deal with that emotionally, also because he doesn’t want anyone to see him in this state of weakness. He absolutely would loathe the idea of anyone being able to see him go down and surrender to the enemy. He would absolutely exhaust his entire energy reservoir building barricades and being the sole and only front line protecting evacuation efforts from a distance, to make sure that they have enough buffer to escape, should he fail.

shadow is someone  who is rash and has a tendency to boast his strength, but he also is someone who tries to consider any and all possibilities, no matter how painful they are to admit to his pride. he will shove them to the back of his mind, but they are still there. and if it COMES to those scenarios, he will have a plan for them. only if unpredictable things happen, or things that shake him emotionally, he would lose grip.

also in all those talks abt things shaking him emotionally, i dont mean that other people who arent his friends are not important to him, its just that friendship has a bigger impact on people. i think that should be pretty obvious, but since people like to misinterpret shadow id like to make sure people understand that i think that shadow values all and every life on the planet. he griefs over random deaths as much as his friends, it’s just that it hits more personal. mostly because he thinks... of himself as someone who always protects, but never has to be protected.

shadows relationship with himself is complicated. he thinks very low of himself. he pretty much hates himself. but that is because he thinks oh so highly of himself. he is perfect, ultimate, unbeatable, unstoppable, immortal, immune.... he expects all this of himself... even though he knows that it’s not true. it’s the one thing that he knows of himself. The one thing he feels that he could maybe achieve if he tried hard enough, and of course he is never trying hard enough; and at the same time he is trying so hard. He gives 300% and yet he still feels like he halfasses everything and he still feels like he could do better. On the outside he presents it with his strict edgy persona, that looks down on everyone. but really he feels so small. most of all towards sonic. sonic is so so tall compared to shadow (pun intended).

he looks up to sonic so much, because he always manages to go out of hisway to do what is right. even if it meant risk, even if it meant weakness. Sonic, the guy that easily could just get killed and hurt and not recover. the funny jokes dude that never thinks more than a single step ahead. This boy is out there risking his life for the life of this planet on the front lines and he shows not a single care about his own safety, always putting everyone else before him. shadow envies him. he really really does. thats why he values his opinoin. thats why he listens to him and even steps back from his OWN ideals, something he would do for only VERY few people, because of course shadow is always right. this is referenced in various sonic games (sa2 most of all,shth,sth) and in sonic x (yea its not canon but like. They Really Got His Character).

I made a quick little drabble based off @moralitas ’amazing fic  Chaos Barren Check it out its awesome! Also the # the blue devils concept has me hooked!  

(I am no writer but this has been haunting me for 3 days and I just had to write it so I wont go crazy )

Warning: Contains mentions of traumatic events and emotions as well as panic attacks.

Summery : Wachowski finds out what exactly is going on with Scarfs; bringing back some memories.(Takes place after the event in Chaos Barren) This was the last thing Shadow could have expected to find when he agreed to be used as a ‘chaos control taxi,’ as his sonic put it. If reading the look on the foxes face did not seem alarming, Amy’s scream sure erased any doubt. Shadow now understood the situation must be dire. Glancing down at the youngest sonic; Wachowski he recalls.He had noticed at the race how the kid tended to get all electric when he got excited. He might not take the news so well. Shadow spoke up before his sonic could enter the shack. “You guys go on ahead I’ll wait out side with Wachowski” Buck gives Shadow a questioning glance “Whats the matter Shads, fraide of a little scream?”

“No. I just thought Id see if the Wachowski is as fast as you say.“ Shadow said with a giving look.

His sonic seemed to understand “Ok, but be prepared to get beat!“

Shadow only scoffed in return. At least he got the point.

“But Buck” the little one said running up to the older sonic still in the door way “Why cant I go with you?” “Aw come on kiddo, its probably something boring anyway! Why don’t show ole’ Shads what your made of?” The kid seemed to brighten at that “OK!” He rushed over to shadow and began talking about the places he’d seen at the last race as they turned to go.

Before they were out of ear shot Buck shouted “Good luck,Shads!”

“I dont need it Faker !” Shadow shouted back.

 Then he and the kid disappeared in a streak of red  and blue.    Didn’t think he cared Buck thought 

Chuckling to himself he joined the fox and BB inside.

                                       ___________________ After circling the entire Island TWICE! Shadow had to admit this kid was FAST. And by the end of the last lap Shadow was about ready to call it quits.  Just as they rounded on the shack that the others had disappeared into when the kid began to do a victory dance.

“Haha that was fun!!”Wanna go again?’

“No, I think you have proven yourself little one. No need to rub it in”

“Awww your no fun!” 

Shadow chuckled 

“Hey wanna see what the others are doing?” Whachowski asked

“I don’t think that’s a good ide,,,”

Before Shadow could finish the kid was rushing toward the door

Damn

Shadow raced after him just nearly beating blocking him

“You really should Not do that.” Shadow said as he blocked the enterance

“Why not“

“Because...” 

“Because what?”

“Because... because you just shouldn’t’”

“But I wanna know what is wrong with Scarfz!” Sonic shouted

Shadow couldn’t bring himself to tell the kid that his friend was probable really hurt.And Shadow could hear that things were getting heated inside.

 He pulled Sonic away from the door.

“Why don’t we explore the Island some more?” Shadow said softly walking them toward the beach “We can  check in later.”

“No. Why wont you tell me whats going on!” Sonic shouted pushing  Shadow off and storming toward the shack

“Because you don’t need to know!” 

Sonic stopped clearly furious, swirled around and shouted 

“Why cant I see Sarfz!”

“Because!”

“Because what!’ Sonic said eyes slits and shoulders razed. 

They really were all the same.  

“Because he is DYING!!”The two hedgehogs looked to the fox standing in the door way.They had never seen Miles like this.His hand were fist,ears flattened, and his eyes were red.

”He is DYING ...and I dont know how to help him”   

The fox said in a voice both horse and broken 

“Wha.....What?”

  Sonic froze

Memories of arrows, shattered glass,and feathers began to swirled in his mind.

“No..”

 He felt his legs give out. As tears pricked his eyes turning the world blurry. “No... he ...he..” 

He was dully aware of the gasp the others let out as his powers electrified the air. 

Familiar emotions started to well up inside him. Making his chest heavy.

Confusion

Why??

Anger

They could have told me!  .

Dread and FEAR  

Not again Scarfz he..not him too

Alone ...again

“No! I...I can’t...I cant lose him too!!”Sonic screamed as he began to sob.  

He covered his ears in a desperate attempt to drown out the memories swirling in his head.

“I cant....Not again” 

He said in a broken whisper as the tears poured down his face.

It was then in a sudden flash that  sonic felt warm strong arms wrap around him. “Its Ok kiddo, I got you.” 

He melted into the embrace letting out all the emotions and tears held back for soo long.

After a while he felt his quills power down. 

“You ok there sparky?” 

Sonic then  looked up still sniffling, to see who was holding him.

“Sha..Shadow?”

Shadow had seen it all from his position at the edge of the beach.

But it was when he heard the kid cry out that he could no longer hold back. 

He ran to him.

Remembering how similar his own experience, his own pain was. Shadow knew all to well how much it hurt to lose some one you loved. Knew all to well the cry for help. 

And seeing the kid in so much pain ?

To have lost someone at his age?..

So Shadow offered him what little comfort he could.

He ignored the shocked stares from the others as he pulled the boy in his lap and held him close. He did not mind the electric charges this boy needed someone, he knew he had did.And Shadow would be that someone.

He  would never live this down Sonic HIS Sonic wouldn’t let him.Oh could just hear them now “Wow Shads I didn’t think you had a heart!”

Ugh

But he would deal with that later, for now he held a broken boy in his arms.

 “After all..” he thought  looking down at the kid in his arms “some things are worth it.”

4. Do you prefer writing multi-chapter or oneshot fanfictions?

hmmmmm for instant gratification i love doing one shots but multi chapters are SO FUN i love writing a big story with multiple moving parts. im just so bad at finishing them 😔

8. What kind of document do you use to you write? Microsoft Word? Google Docs? Straight in the AO3 text box?

for a very very very long time i would just write in my email as a draft until i finally moved to google docs. lol.

9. What’s your favorite line(s) or scene(s) that you have written?

“Enjoy it all while you can,” Metal Sonic says, revving up his jet. He has plans to make, to set into motion. He needs to get better, and fighting Sonic like this hasn’t been working. He has to change his behaviour.

Sonic watches him. “Enjoy what?”

Again, he considers not answering him. But perhaps, if Eggman ever succeeded, if Eggman succeeds in taking over in this timeline, if Sonic’s luck runs out… Metal Sonic wishes he had taken more time to appreciate the small things. Flesh bodies are weak. But it was still his body.

“Being able to bleed,” he answers, before jetting off into the distance.

15. Are there words, phrases, mannerisms or scenes you tend to use a lot?

i tend to explain time travel in the same manner in all of my time traveling fics… i just think the allegory of time existing as a knitted blanket is the most easily digestible version and makes the most sense to me haha

i have characters tap their chin a lot or quirk their brow simply because I do that (haha i do that!)

also sometimes i read those “dos and donts of writing” tip posts and something i do a lot is have characters say other characters names in conversations (like, “What do you think, Sonic?” or “I don’t know, Amy, that sounds like a bad idea.” etc) but apparently that’s like, unnatural and people don’t do that in real life much? which is funny because i name drop people irl literally all the time idk why

also hopefully this doesn’t get noticed a whole bunch but I have a nasty habit of just dropping the subject of a sentence or putting it at the end. like yoda. so i have to go back and edit my fics a lot over that lmao because sonic characters don’t talk like that

There was a murky haze of a deep, sun-soaked red that blew across like thick clouds with the howling wind. The desolate city, still ruined from Eggman’s rampage was now still and ghostly.

The restoration efforts were in full-swing now. It wasn’t a bad idea. Just pick up and repurpose some old stuff. No big deal.

However…

Sonic leaned over a steel railing that had been, at one point, painted white until the incident. Now the paint peeled just by his gloves skimming across it to hoist his chest’s weight as he leaned leisurely over the safety walk and peered out over the city that used to be bursting with busy life and vegetation.

The park was nearly a Serengeti at this point. Tall, dry grass had grown up from the cracks in the streets and spread out like someone’s bad hair day over the landscape. With the fires out, only soot remained, but it seemed to be helping the natural wildlife.

Even animals, as dismal as they appeared to be, were willingly working hard to restore what they could and salvage a new life together.

Sonic couldn’t frown now. He wouldn’t let himself.

It was kinda beautiful, in a weird sense of the word. Seeing the world push back against destruction and its people hold their heads high so soon after it’s destructor’s mess.

He shook his head and sighed, “Why are we always cleaning up this adult-child’s mess?” He mused, though he only spoke like this to himself.

It was hard not to take some things seriously, but Sonic tried not to let the mood affect him so much.

“Sadly, it seems to be the most anyone can do around here. Just cleaning up an old geezer’s trash bin and recycle it.”

Sonic was surprised to hear someone had heard his light ramblings, so he turned to the familiar voice with a look of curiosity.

“How long have you been there?”

She happily walked up to the railing, closing her eyes and leaning back on it, “Not long.” she seemed pretty chill, a lot had happened, and that usual cheeriness in her now seemed rather tame.

The bending of metal creaked at her pressure, just tugging on it lightly, but Sonic pushed back and made sure to equal out the payload. “It’s been a while.” he smiled a little brighter now, making up for her lack of usual spunk.

Then he smirked, “Missed me much?”

“We all did.” She gave him a sly look, “Especially Tails… he and I have been nightmares for a while now.”

Just behind a building in the back, Tails was asking some soldiers where Sonic could be.

After being told Amy asked too and they directed her to the railing just behind the collapsed skyscraper, they then asked him why.

“O-oh? Amy’s looking for him? Oh! No big reason! I just miss him is all.” Tails shook out his hands and then awkwardly scratched the back of his head. He had wanted some time with his best friend after little Sonic had left, he felt he needed some things cleared up…

Was Sonic mad at him? He didn’t look mad before. He looked happy, but Sonic usually looks happy. He worried Sonic may hold some feelings against him, considering he was powerless to stop Infinite and the other mock villains from pummeling him before.

He wearily approached the corner, his tails growing stiff and his arms shivering by his sides.

His eyes stung from last night’s tears. A cloud of regret and guilt had returned after he thought he had mourned for the last time when Sonic had come back, practically from everyone thinking he might have died until discovering he was trapped by Eggman… miles and miles away from the planet.

When he peeked around the corner, Sonic was chuckling.

“Nightmares? That sounds awful.”

“You’re laughing? That’s rude.” Amy puffed up her cheek, “We were all worried about you, ya know.” She turned her head a bit away but her eyes never left his.

He winked to her, “Haven’t ever had nightmares.”

Her face exploded with shock, “What?! Never? How is that even possible?”

He laughed again, shaking his head. “I just never have. Don’t give me wrong, I dream sometimes. But the worst thing I’ve ever dreamed was just something completely random and weird. Anyway, I’m sorry to have made you all worry, Amy. I tried to come back here as soon as I could.” he felt some of the contaminated wind flare-up in his nose and itched it. “The wind here sucks.” He huffed, feeling it dry up his throat as he breathed it in.

He rubbed just below his chin where his neck was, looking down. “I kinda owe you all one.”

“Your voice is a little raspy. Do you need some water?” Her face turned to concern again, bending a little to try and see his face better.

“Heh. I could really go for a chilidog right now!” He stood straighter and happier, which made Amy instantly comforted.

“Ohhh, you. I figured you might say something like that.” She removed her hands from the railing, dusting them off from the peeling paint left on them and placed them behind her back, rocking on her heels. “You know~ We could go for a walk out of this smoke’s path and find some grub down by the rest station. If you want too… we could talk a bit more there!” She leaped to securely wrap her arm around his own.

He was fumbling a moment, but not a lot. He looked at the warmth the gesture instantly gave him and found something in his heart trigger again.

“You know what?” He weakly gave her a cheesy, awkward smile with a typical bead of sweat trinkling down the side of his face. “I’ve almost forgotten how it felt like.”

“What felt like?” Amy blinked, tilting her head, still trying to be a bit flirty.

“You, the outside world… I still can’t fully remember, but I haven’t completely forgotten how it felt.” He crooked his arm into a true gentlemen’s hold for her to walk beside, and began making his way towards the corner Tails was peeking out from. “It’s almost like one of those weird dreams… But I’m glad I’m awake.”

His words stung Tails. ‘If it weren’t for me, Sonic wouldn’t be saying such sad things…’ he looked down at the dirt before quickly fleeing, spinning his tails as fast as he could before they leisurely made their way around the corner.

He could still hear them though… and that pained him.

“You mentioned Tails wasn’t feeling well either?”

“Oh, yeah. Well… He and I really took it pretty hard. Knuckles did too, but you know him, he was trying his best to get what needed to be done… done.” Her ears bent slightly.

Tails narrowed his eyes, ‘You don’t know how I’m feeling. It’s completely different. You’re not one to blame!’ his fists tightened, trying to fly faster so he could round the next corner before they reached it too. Street after street, just trying to remain at a constant, undetected distance.

Sonic would grow tried of walking soon, he’d offer to scoop Amy up, Tails couldn’t beat his speed but he could try and out-think it.

“Poor little buddy…” Sonic looked up at the sky, just lost in a moment of thought and empathy.

“H-hey…” Amy blushed a little, looking down and tugging on the end of her dress a little bit. “I wasn’t all rainbows and sunshine either, you know…” she felt his gaze shift back to her and continued, “I… Well, I couldn’t deny what I feeling. I just hoped that with enough faith, you were still with us. That you had somehow managed to escape and were secretly helping us from the shadows… somewhere… completely safe and unharmed. Well-fed. Happy…” she stopped walking a moment, her eyes glittering with a newfound wetness in the dry atmosphere.

He stopped too, smiling to her. “You okay?” He asked, tilting his head as she had done for him when she couldn’t see his expression.

“…Em.” she nodded, turning cheerily back to him. “Let’s go on a date!”

His eyes opened wide. “A date? Here?”

“Sure! I’m happy wherever you are, Sonic~” she cooed, scooting closer to him as he scratched his cheek with his finger, not sure how to respond to that.

“Aww… Gee, Amy, I-”

“No buts!” she pulled him towards her and took her arm around his and placed it up along his shoulders, pointing to their destination. “I think there may be ice cream this time!” the hub looked pretty far away… “Let’s ditch the refreshments! Those are for the civilians anyway. We should head home and take a breather.”

Her eyes beamed up at him, as Tails, unable to fully pull himself away, stood on top of a half-caved in building’s still-standing top structure and gripped the edges of the stone against his twitching fingers.

“That lousy… She should know better than to hog him to herself!” he slightly steamed out, “But… what if Sonic really doesn’t want to see me? She told him I had nightmares already… may I should just wait my turn.” He felt his confidence and self-worth slipping, failing himself as he slowly let his hands relax and slide off the edge of the already half-tumbled-over wall.

He slipped away as Sonic shrugged and scooped Amy up, just as he had predicted moments ago…

“Then let’s eat! I’m starved!”

“Hurray! Hehe!”

The two took off, leaving more dust in their wake as it trailed up to Tails, folded in a corner with his arms wrapped around his legs and his tails over his head…

Later that day, it was reported that Tails had been zipping around, keeping himself super busy with the restoration project and carrying supplies left and right, to and fro.

He didn’t dare go back to the hub but saw that Sonic and Amy’s mixed blur were flying down the streets as they returned to work, laughing together… so happy together…

He paused as he held the rope tied to a box with stones in it.

He watched them… Amy nailing some wood in as Sonic stumbled over some split nails and almost fell, but jumped up to Amy’s level and posed as though it was all just a break-dancing impov spoof. They continued to laugh as Tails’s energy slipped.

‘What if… she becomes his new best friend?’

The thought plagued him, as the rope began to slip through his fingers.

He shook his head, fighting back the depressive feelings and tightening his hold on his rope. “I won’t give up hope on Sonic again.” He assured himself. “I’ll talk to him later.” he took off, continuing the work.

In the night hours, he sneaked out of his room, walking down the hall towards Sonic’s door. His footsteps creaked, but he tried to be discreet, he gently twirled his tails so they didn’t make much sound but kept his footsteps lighter.

He couldn’t sleep anyway, not until he at least made peace and found some closure with Sonic.

But then…

“Hahaha…!” Sonic’s whispering laughter froze Tails’s entire being. It was coming from one of the hub’s main rest areas…

“Shh..! Sonic, someone will wake up and hear us!” Amy’s whispered voice… sent Tails slumping back to the ground, his tails falling with the action.

“I just think you calling me out to the ‘couch’ is hilarious, Amy.”

“I wanted more time with you…”

“We spent practically the whole day together!”

‘You did spend the whole day together…’ Tails grumbled in his mind, rolling his eyes, growing annoyed.

His lack of sleep wasn’t helping to keep his emotions in check either…

“I just~” she leaned against Sonic’s chest, spooking him out a bit. She closed her eyes, her hand grazing against the thin fur upon it, “…Wanted a few more words with you… would you stay until I fell asleep? For one night, at least, I want to sleep easy.” She breathed in his familiar scent, snuggled up a little next to him, and began to take long, calming breaths.

Sonic fidgetted, looking around as though not able to really relax himself.

He lifted a foot up to his knee and tapped it repeatedly, moving his hands to the rim of the couch’s back and looking away from her, just seeming uneasy.

She didn’t bother to say anything but just looked up annoyed at him.

He got the message and apologetically smiled down to her, “I’m… not really sure I can ease you into sleep like this, Amy.”

“Oh, no?” She teased, being sarcastic before smiling. “What’s on your mind then?”

Tails creeped back to his door, about to take the knob and deal with his second-best feelings when…

“I’m actually pretty worried about Tails, to be honest.”

His heart peaked a moment as his breath jumped.

“Tails?” Amy tilted her head off his chest, and Sonic took the motion as an opportunity, moving her away.

“No offense, Amy. But I haven’t really seen him all day. I heard from the guys he was working hard too. You said he was having nightmares? I’m used to that. Tails has always had weirder dreams than me. But, the thing is, he always tells me about them. No matter how whacked out they are, he’s never failed to tell me what’s on his mind.”

Tails’s whole face began to break, slowly tightening as his vision on the door knob blurred with tears, his mouth spreading to make way for his silent wailing.

“Tails is my best friend, Amy. I want to make sure he’s alright too.”

There was a loud thump as Tails’s knees hit the ground hard.

“WHAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAHHAHAAAA!” gross, ugly sobbing came from the hallway as people’s lights flickered on and the whole of that sector was alive with fright.

That night, in Tails’s room, Sonic rubbed Tails’s head as he clung to Sonic, crying a little less dramatically from before, but still tearfully sobbing as Sonic spent the entire night hearing his fears and comforting him with his laughter… perfectly directed to him and him alone.

Amy understood, heading off to bed, but Tails still felt the need to tell Sonic that it’s bros before smoes. (your dudes before excuses)

The next day, Amy asked if both Sonic and Tails wanted some ice cream, Tails left the two to have another walk and gladly proclaimed, “But he’s my best friend!”

Amy giggled, looking up to Sonic, “I’m sorry. I didn’t realize how selfish I was being...”

Sonic gave her a playful wink, “Yeah, you’re kinda terrible at that.”

She smacked his arm and that was that.
