In regards to that harleycrockerbert post, there’s something about how homestucks first real flash is there to describe the weirdly desolate, isolating feeling of the suburbs, with the audio of wind whipping down the street with chimes. I feel like that was meant to be a bigger theme somehow but got dropped
YES, EXACTLY! Like, that flash is the literal title card for Homestuck! It's notable that, whenever we see June/Jane's neighborhood, there's almost no one around. Just row upon row of near-identical houses, and besides from one possible neighbor, there is absolutely no "community" that exists there. All the kids, to one degree or another, grow up in a place of physical isolation. Dave being stuck on the top floor of a huge apartment complex, Rose being sequestered out in the middle of the woods, Jade on her island, but June's isolation is that particular American Suburban Desolation that's captured perfectly: a neighborhood, ostensibly for people to live in, but completely devoid of life. Even small details allude to this particular interpretation: why the hell does Dad Egbert have to constantly take his car to get more baking supplies? It doesn't take him that long to get back, but it's clear that a car is necessary for getting around in the suburban sprawl. The sort of archetypal nature of the tire swing, attached to a single, scrappy tree in the front yard. The continuing use of "can hardly be considered to be a proper [] at all!" applied to what would be considered normal for a Proper American Suburban Family. I could go on! And this is a much bigger discussion, but isn't it interesting that the game "Sburb" mainly functions through building up an endless, tumorous growth of the same housing, over and over again? One might even say that the goal of the game is to create a Sburban Sprawl so overwhelming that it makes a whole new universe, which certainly has... implications for the world beyond. I'd need to do a thorough reading of like, the Epilogues to see if that's actually conveyed/dealt with, but these continuing motifs of the suburbs never really leave homestuck even as it becomes more fantastical. I do kind of wish there was more textual stuff in the comic that dealt with that, but I think Egbert (and a lot of the kids) in Homestuck proper lack the necessary context and introspection at the time to grapple with the world that came before.

i hate math. i hate math because i suck at it. but math doesn't make sense to me because i can only see the big picture, the ideas and equations in broad strokes. i can't see the steps it takes to get from numbers one and two to the answer. math is the process of moving from one point to another, and i get lost in the middle.

Pls excuse the bad quality, I have terrible lightning here. The german weather is just constantly stuck in October, so good lighting is a rarity here right now.

When they tell you to follow the money, this is a good example of the kind of thing you might find. There are many layers to any conflict. To know what is happening is important. It is also important to know why. And often, with the superwealthy, it is about making more money. They don't really care about the religions. They don't care about the little people who die as a result of their machinations. They just want to line their pockets. And if the world population gets reduced in the process, for them that is a bonus, because mainly they are ecofascists of the same type as Boris Johnson and his father (where they have lots of kids of their own, but want people in other countries to stop having kids).

Do you have any niche hobbies? Like, somwthing you believe people wouldn't believe/would have a hard time believing you do
(Sorry for my bad english! Also, hope you have an awesome time :D)
Well, I wouldn't say it is that weird of a hobby, but people are often shocked when I tell them I like to study anthropology on my free time.
Crazy, right? Sonic the hedgehog, fastest thing alive, sitting down and reading a book about ancient civilizations? So unbelievable 😆
I just find it really interesting. You know, understanding why and how people made things, and noticing the drastic changes society has gone through.. it's so much fun!!

Today I realized: I’m a lawyer that was never taught how to write properly
a note: i do know how to write. however, my handwriting has always been NOTABLY atrocious. i’ll get more into this later
so i’m left handed (mostly, I can write with my right hand if you give me a minute) and my teachers struggled to teach me how to write when I was a child. i do in fact mean like really solidly struggled. they spent four years trying to teach me how to hold a pencil properly in a way that would make my handwriting even marginally better
and i mean i went through every pencil grip people could come up with. for this reason, i still hold a pen weird at the age of twenty-seven (i’m not fucking changing it now, thanks). between kindergarten all the way through fourth grade, i distinctly remember teachers trying to teach me how to write better with extra lessons and new techniques and anything they could come up with
and then they just... stopped around fourth grade
that’s not to say my handwriting was magically legible. it wasn’t
and when i say it wasn’t legible, my bio I and II teacher in high school who i had for tenth and twelfth grade straight up admitted to me that she graded my work based on being able to pick out a few keywords and filling in the blanks from there. she wasn’t willing to pick out the whole thing when my standardized test scores were well above where i needed to be, so she just looked for key words
i have a feel other teachers did this too, but she was the one that told me
and, the thing is, my handwriting got a little better with practice cause i handwrite my notes, but not a ton. so my handwriting in college was legible semi consistently
but to this day, my middle school best friend still can’t read my handwriting
and i’m realizing now that i’ve started to accept that i have autism, part of it may be that i lack the fine motor skills to write properly, and since i’ve never been diagnosed or recommended for diagnosis, my teachers didn’t realize that was something that they needed to focus extra on
a year ago this month, i took the bar
nine ish months, i was sworn into my state bar as a lawyer
so. i’m a lawyer that was never really taught to write

If anyone at college tells you to push back your second history requirement to your junior year so you can get ahead in your early years, ignore them. They only wish the worst upon you. They are deceptive, lying snakes out to cause you immense psychological harm.
