Currently obsessed with the idea that Taylor wrote Carolina during the folkmore period being inspired by Where The Crawdads Sing (listen I know....) because she couldn't put the book down and was inspired by "the juxtaposition of [the character's] loneliness & independence. Her curiosity & fear all tangled up. I’m not actually sure what novel from last year I would want to win the Pulitzer since there wasn’t one book that I read that really stood out to me, but if I had to choose it would not be an Appalachian au of “David Copperfield” plus some other book (weird that they gave two first prizes also?). But I guess this continues the trend (with the blessed exception of The Netanyahus, which really is all that) of the fiction Pulitzers being weird and all over the place.

Hi hello welcome 👋 And yea I love shit like Saw and Final Destination and Danganronpa that's not afraid to get creative and even a bit silly with their death and gore scenes. There's probably something to be said there about finding humor in the fragility of life and the human will to survive, we're all Made Out Of Meat etc, but I'll be honest, for me a lot of it really just comes down to enjoying that rare feeling of visceral Disgust while also knowing in the back of my mind that it's all fiction and nobody is actually being hurt for real y'know?

i don't get the desire to go to one of those restaurants that tries to cater to every basic taste by serving an approximation of famous foods of the world that don't correspond to any history of the place or its migrant population just to the idea that if you serve gyozas and tacos and charcuterie at the same time in a way that's instagramable you can make a bigger profit and open the same restaurant in 5 continents with no changes. like. why would i pay for that
