We NEED to talk more about Neil's escape from Columbia because I don't think anyone's fully appreciating just how unhinged it really was. Neil really hiked six miles along the freeway in the South Carolina summer heat, face bruised from being knocked out cold dressed like a homeless person carrying a big ass duffle bag and started strolling up to truck drivers like, "Hello there! the scariest thing for me rn is that if lando wins the wdc, haters will say that he doesn’t deserve it, etc etc etc, but if lando doesn’t win the wdc, then the haters will say that we knew he couldn’t do it, he’s a bad driver, etc etc etc.

i really don’t think people understand how big a 60+ point difference is. it’s a huge gap to cover up, especially with only 8 more races (and some sprints).

if lando, by some miracle, wins, it’s going to be absolutely deserved because the man was able to cover up that 60+ point difference and beat max. that’s a big fucking deal.

if lando doesn’t win, which is more likely, it’s still going to be a big deal because he was able to give max a proper competition this season, just like charles, and just like lewis.

the point difference last year was 575-285 (max-sergio), and the year before that was 454-308 (max-charles).

lando has gotten closer to beating max than anyone has in the past two years. and, i think he deserves a helluva lot of respect for that.

he may not realistically be in the battle for the drivers championship anymore, however that doesn’t at all minimise just how proud i am of all lando has achieved this season. 3 wins (including his maiden), 7 poles, 12 podiums, leading his team to first place in the constructors championship, securing the most points of any mclaren driver in history. and that’s just on track, off it i am immensely proud of his growth too, from being someone who always saw everything as glass half full and was always so hard on himself, to the way he now talks in interviews you can see his confidence and belief in his own abilities has come on so far (as it should). it’s so nice to see how far he’s come from the little boy who started out in f1 so many years ago. maybe this year wasn’t his for the championship but mark my words, his time will come.
