contrary to popular belief, i think nico di angelo CAN drive. now. is he good? no. he goes like 20 mph on the interstate and is gripping the wheel while looking terrified, doesn’t seem to know where the turn signal even is, zones out often and ends up having to take very sudden terrifying turns. but he does have a license. and owns a beat up old car he got from some grandpa on the internet almost for free. it makes a new alarming sound every day and nico ignores it every single time. he once used it to take will out on a date and it broke down in the middle of nowhere (nico said the car was homophobic. will suggested maybe the fact that nico hasn’t gotten an oil change since he got the car probably had more to do with it.)

will, on the other hand, grew up with his grandparents on a farm in texas. the first thing he ever drove was a gigantic tractor when he was 6. he’s the type of friend who yells SEATBELTS before even starting the engine. sings the whole time and will only stop singing for a maximum of 10 seconds of road rage and then will resume like nothing happened. thinks he’s too good for maps. he has literally EVERYTHING in his trunk. cold? blankets. hurt? first aid kit. wardrobe malfunction? sewing kit + a change of clothes. spontaneous swim in the lake? swimsuit and towels. a metal detector for some unknown reason. his car is his BABY and he refuses to let anyone else drive. (he injured his leg once and nico had to drive him to the hospital. will clutched the handles the whole time). nico has been the passenger princess ever since.

the scariest thing for me rn is that if lando wins the wdc, haters will say that he doesn’t deserve it, etc etc etc, but if lando doesn’t win the wdc, then the haters will say that we knew he couldn’t do it, he’s a bad driver, etc etc etc.

i really don’t think people understand how big a 60+ point difference is. it’s a huge gap to cover up, especially with only 8 more races (and some sprints).

if lando, by some miracle, wins, it’s going to be absolutely deserved because the man was able to cover up that 60+ point difference and beat max. that’s a big fucking deal.

if lando doesn’t win, which is more likely, it’s still going to be a big deal because he was able to give max a proper competition this season, just like charles, and just like lewis.

the point difference last year was 575-285 (max-sergio), and the year before that was 454-308 (max-charles).

lando has gotten closer to beating max than anyone has in the past two years. and, i think he deserves a helluva lot of respect for that.

okay it was an amazing race but i do have one thing to say which is that the f1tv commentators decided to piss me off a little - because right after the race was over, the narrative was that max was understandably angry because anything less than first was a loss for him (i mean also contextually cos he was on pole) but that charles "must be very gratified with P3 given his season so far". it's like they're not even paying attention. he and max are cut from the exact same cloth – charles is just house trained. he's gonna put on the smile and the gracious set to his shoulders because he has the hopes of a religion on his shoulders – but the hunger that claws his ribs inwards is the very same as max's, the same down to their chromosomes. neither he nor max will be satisfied with anything less than P1 – in quali, in the race, in the championship, in everything.
