Give me your Penny Lamb headcanons (rtc)

Well, if you insist! These are just some random kinda general ones. Some will mention some gore and the accident and some will vaguely reference familial abuse, so be warned!

- Penny had a really rough childhood and was taken from her father indefinitely when she was 10. She's been in the system ever since, as families keep deciding they can't handle the combination of PTSD and autism and gave her back.

- The only biological family she really connected with was her grandmother, who was the one who gave Penny her doll

- Penny wants to be a sheep farmer one day like Gran was before she passed.

- Penny's Metis on her bio mom's side. She doesn't really talk about it much because her mother died shortly after she was born and her father kept her away from that side of her family and Penny never really learned much about her culture. She doesn't really know what all it means.

- This one is kind of a general RTC headcanon, but the way the choir survives the Cyclone after the musical is that Karnak quite literally shifted the timeline. They technically inhabit an alternate universe where the only change is they survive. This means everyone has two conflicting memories of how the accident happened and Penny has very vivid nightmares that constantly switch between losing her head and waking up alive aftermath of the crash with her throat sliced and her neck broken.

- Penny had a sort of identity crisis at 3 am due to these dreams and cut and bleached her hair in Jane Doe fashion. She actually found it strangely comforting to sort of pay homage to the person she was when she found her friends and keeps the look. She didn't like being Jane Doe, but she appreciates what Jane did for her.

- Penny always liked scary movies and stuff like that, but after the accident and the whole Jane Doe debacle she becomes very fascinated with anything morbid and death related as a sort of weird coping mechanism.

- Penny also gets very into the goth, emo, and heavy metal scenes after the accident. She cries listening to Nemo by Nightwish (no I will not shut up about that song)

- Speaking of music, Penny is a life long Marianas Trench fan and when Constance finds out they NEVER SHUT UP ABOUT IT

- Penny had a big crush on Ocean for a while before they started dating, but it was always kind of soured by Ocean acting SO homophobic and SO ableist all the time. It was a huge internal conflict for Penny until Ocean finally turned around, apologized to all the people she'd hurt, and genuinely changed for the better. Penny is actually quite proud of Ocean's progress.

- Penny's hyposensitive to touch and loves deep pressure, squishy hugs, cuddles, and textures. She's notorious for touching stuff without permission when she thinks no one's looking just because the texture looks ✨️feely✨️ (same girl same)

- Mischa is her favourite person to go to for sensory hugs cause he's taller than her and kinda chubby and kinda muscular and he can just envelop her entirely and squeeze the life out of her which she loves.

- Penny really likes Moutain Dew. Mountain Dew of any flavour. The only things she drinks are water, Mountain Dew, and the occasion double-double from Tims. Ocean got her that Baja Blast t-shirt from Hot Topic and Penny wears it every day as pajamas.

- Penny's new family (the one she was placed with after the other one didn't look for her or report her missing or anything at all after the accident) are very nice, but she's incredibly wary of them because of her history. She prefers to be out of the house so she doesn't have to interact with people who are supposed to be parental figures to her.

- Penny loves going to Ricky's, laying on his floor, and being smothered by all his cats while he tells her about Star Trek lore.

- Penny and Noel are the same height, so often times he comes over asking to try on her skirts and stuff to see if they'll look good on him. She has lost half her wardrobe to him.

okay so song recommendations. i have no idea what your music taste is like but. - i really like "l'amour de ma vie" by billie eilish and i've been listening to it a lot lately, it's very good very jazzy it gets all weird and fast at the end though watch out for that. - i also keep getting "does he love you?" by rilo kiley stuck in my head, it's a very cinematic song, tells a sort of a story, i loveee the guitar in it and i also really love the rhythm of the lyrics. - "that's when your heartaches begin" by the ink spots is a very good very very old song, it's nice and slow and gentle. - "it's only sex" by car seat headrest is a really fun song, at least to me. it's got a very nice beat. it's about sex and whatnot so if you 🫵 aren't comfortable with that i'd not listen to this one 👍👍👍 - anything by roach farmer is really nice, and a lot of his songs (at least on the "as seen on YT" album) are really unserious so you do not have to be worried about getting bummed out, the As Seen On YT album is just a bunch of silly little jams!! "car wash cats" is my favorite. - "pleaser" by wallows is one of my favorite songs. it's got loud guitar and whatnot and i love it it's very eeehhgiuuuu mmmmmm sounds. kind of alternative rock i think?

hihihi!! i love you so much i will literally kiss you 🫵 warning im talking out of my ass for most of this ill be real lmao i did one creative writing class in year 12 when i was 17 and i was so mentally ill that year i blocked most of that out i can't tell u a single thing ab the story i wrote LMAO

i try really hard on my prose i won't lie LMAO i think about it a lot as i write like ways to improve it and build the scene more? i also feel like my sentences are always super long but reading back some things i feel like i have a good mix of the shorter sentences to emphasise things and then the longer ones to sorta build things up — like i really enjoy playing around with sentence length in my writing

i think prose comes a lot from just playing around? like i've started leaning more into anatomical (?) descriptions in my writing because i like the tension it can create — i think finding prose you like really helps because replicating that can help you develop your own? i really like thriller novels so thats pretty much all i read outside of tumblr so i think the way i write would feel similar to that kind of style? even when im trying to make it romantic the tension i feel follows that more thriller style and not even necessarily from other authors!!! i have scenes from my own writing that i adore and think about all the time and try to replicate in other fics:

barefoot, he paces back and forth in the apartment, shifting uncomfortably as you traced a fingertip over the carved inscription, the touch feeling as if it was on the very nerves of his scalp, down the curve of his spine, catching on every bump of his vertebra.

kneeling in the altar to offer anything they had in exchange for their heir; piles of gold from queens who begged for a prince, beloved and wise to rule their kingdoms peacefully, warriors armed with iron to wish for a knight, strategic and strong enough to return home from battle again and again, farmers gripping their herbs with soil-stained hands, praying for a child born with kindness and thumbs so green the village would survive the winters once more, a marble statue of the god, towering at over 9 feet tall from a sculptor wishing for a child with as much passion for the arts as their parents.

those are both from a bakugou fic but i was obsessed with the style of it when i wrote it so i follow similar sort of structures in other pieces with the long sentences

you were a good teenager. quiet. reserved. smart. relaxed. easy. unbothered. the kind your parents friends adored. the kind of teenager that didn't kick up a fuss when they'd forget to pick you up after school, or when your hobbies were brushed aside, or even when they told you they'd booked a trip, only two weeks long they assured you, promising you'd be okay without them. you were a good teenager, you'd be able to take care of yourself.in return, you reassure them, too, you'll be okay. you'll be good. you'll make smart decisions. you don't kick up a fuss, don't even mention your graduation date, right in the centre of their trip, when your parents will be preoccupied with sunshine and drinks and dancing. you're a good kid. you don't cling. you don't whine. you don't cry. not the kind of kid your parents have to worry, or think, about.

but then i have pieces like these where the shorter sentences and paragraphs just sorta like idk im talking out of my ass rn they feel more punchy? like even though it is the characters feelings it comes across like fact

your wax wings spread wide, curling over shoulder blades, strapped around biceps, wrists and fingers, nothing but clear blue skies ahead of you, bright eyes zeroing in on the searing sun. you've forgotten all about the deep sea below, no concern for the waves crashing over the jagged rocks at the cliffs edge, of the current dragging helpless creatures further into the depths. what did you have to worry about the peril below when you could take to the sky? you wings will carry you far from the danger lurking in the murkiness. "let me in." like a baby bird, struggling to leave its nest for the first time, your wings fail you, cracking, burning, melting, sending you careening carelessly into the frigid depths below.

like the sentence length in the last paragraph is quite long but i feel it really like emphasises the feeling im trying to convey i also am a slut for a metaphor i feel like most of my prose is metaphors LMAO

i could use like a million more examples of moments ive played around with things like that but this is really fucking long already LMAO tldr there is i just read things i like and replicate the feeling i get from it — the longer sentences to slowly build the tension or the shorter ones to leave no room for argument kind of thing

THE EMOTIONAL DEPTH I FEAR IDK HOW I DO THAT LMAO i daydream a lot so i imagine up a lot of details and i also do like to make things feel real so ill talk to myself and act things out to myself when im alone lmao ESPECIALLY WHEN IM DRIVING GOOD GOD

i think all i really have to say ab the emotional depth stuff and most of the prose things too is i truly just think a lot about what i write — there are certain scenes im very particular about the choice of words or sentence length and then with the emotional stuff is i think a lot about the situation im making up and try to imagine how i'd respond

reader in all of my writing is pretty much Me lmao so i find the emotional part fairly easy? because i just put myself in the situation and write how i'd react anyway but then for other characters it is a little hard sometimes because obviously im not them LMAO but truly the advice there is just day dream and give into the delusions LMAO like i truly sit and listen to a song maybe or sometimes just quietly and i will zone out and really put myself in the place and go from there I WILL SAY THO IN MY CLASS IN YEAR 12 MY TEACHER USED TO GET SOOOOO UP MY ASS ABOUT SHOW DONT TELL LMAO so i fall victim to describing things a lot and hinting at a lot of things rather than specifically dropping information like using that story i wrote for that as an example the character would describe his gardens in an overbearing way because in the end people find bodies beneath but to begin with i don't speak of bodies in the garden beds, i only wrote about him being too fond of the flowers, of him humanising the flowers, conversing with them etc i don't have him talking to the remains or anything like that because i want the reader to jump to their own conclusions so theyre sorta interacting more with the work?

ANYWAY IM SORRY THIS IS SO LONG THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR KINDNESS I LOVE YOU SO MUCH AND I HOPE THIS HELPS A LITTLE BIT I LOVE TALKING IM SO SORRY IF THIS WASNT HELPFUL I TRULY JUST LOSE MYSELF IN DAYDREAMS LMAO
