Idk about anyone else but I feel so uncomfortable publishing fanfic in the marauders fandom or even talking/discussing HCs and meta etc. like under every post here people are attacking/getting attacked for ships, characterisations, characters- and it always feels like you’re wrong? Im all for individual interpretation and I’ll never yuck anyone else’s yum I just won’t engage with it but apparently a bunch of you didn’t get the memo.

A lot of it seems to be ship wars (y’know what- sure. Ship wars exist in every fandom whatever I just wish people tagged more appropriately), fanon vs canon (which for me is a little blurry bc I gravitate towards canon characterisations but also I can’t pretend like I know much about the ho canon and honestly I don’t want to reread the books because I’m not interested in stuffing JKRs awful and blatant bigotry in my own face), and then there seems to be nearly a generational divide and the handheld superiority complex that goes along with it about what stages of the marauders fandom was the best and how it sucks now. I think this is an interesting one since my main fandom is >15 years old and this issue doesn’t seem to exist.

It makes me a little sad because i genuinely love fandoms and interacting with fandom and writers and artists but yeah i just find it so uncomfortable here. But at the same time i want to interact and see the art and fic and creation that comes out of it but ugh at what cost man.

Fanart of the character Morgana from BBC's Merlin TV series. This is a redraw of something I made in November of 2023, the original being the third image of this post.

Eyes closed in something that could be mistaken as peaceful, Morgana holds a sword close to her, the hilt lifted above her head. One hand grasps that hilt and the other clenches the lower blade, flesh pressed against sharp metal, drawing blood that drips down the sword. Her face is pressed into the edge, cutting her face following the divot of her cheekbone. Bleeding, no sign of pain registers in her expression.

She wears a bold red dress, the symbolic colour of the House of Pendragon, with gold embellishments around the open-collarbone neckline and as a fine pattern across the material, giving the dress a sparkly-effect. Her black hair is half-tied back but so wild that it makes no different, spilling over her shoulders in messy curls.

With a light-gold outline, the character stands against a deep red background with a ring of golden light behind her, almost like a halo. She stands in the dark area of it, rejected by the light.

The sword is a physical embodiment of Morganas consuming desire for power- be it the freedom her station has denied her, the magical abilities she was born with, or the insatiable want to take revenge on Uther. The poor excuse of a King she unfortunately is tied to by blood. The power she craves is hurting her and the more she clings to it, the more she will bleed.

Afterall, she was destined to die at the end of a sword, one that she forged in life.
