Put "📓" or some other version of a book emoji into my inbox and I'll explain the plot of a fanfiction that I haven't written but daydream about.
Thank you, Tabby! I'm all out of proper daydream fics but perhaps I can get away with offering more headcanons in my M!lives/it's called a hug verse. First a tangent--I love Dench!M (as you know lol) but one reason I love her so much is that she is a female character who is allowed to be complicated and interesting and badass while not being even a little 'nurturing' as 'good' female characters often tend to be cast.
But rising to where she is in a field like national security, she must have been repeatedly called "cold" and "heartless", (i.e. not a real woman) which being who she is, she probably turned into a weapon of her own but I wonder whether she did internalize any of it. Essentially, her relationship with femininity / being a woman is SO fascinating to me. So then enter M!lives verse.
M's husband has a niece - Sarah - who wants M to come be there for her when she gives birth. M has absolutely no intention to go and has no idea why this woman is so clingy when M has been nothing but abrasive towards her. Bond overhears her one day equivocating like hell on the phone and you see he knows Sarah in his own timeline. He met her one day when he was getting drunk by visiting M's grave; they ended up going to a nearby cafe and chatting for hours, where she told him all about M.
Sarah essentially ran away from home when she was 17 and ended up in an abusive relationship with an older man. It was M and her husband who helped her get out, and M, Sarah rightly suspects, the reason the ex left the country shortly after and died in a shady car accident a couple months later.
M argues this is what anyone would have done, ignoring the elephant that seems to be growing by day of just how on point these supposedly false memories of Bond's are.
But Bond tells her the rest of what Sarah said that day. How M found Sarah crying one day at their house and chastised her with who she was going to let dictate the rest of her life--herself or the scumbag ex? How, Sarah told him, those words were what kept her going thru every bad day thereafter.
And M of course had no idea. Even so, she questions what on earth she would do at a childbirth when Bond tells her (a) if Sarah minded being yelled at she probs would not have asked M to come (b) just to do what she did with him when he was in bad shape--hold her hand and tell her it will be ok.
In the end then M does go and she absolutely hates that they name the daughter after her. She also hates just how much mewling and crying her next Christmas involves.
One day, when he is supposed to be napping (he's recovering from a bad head injury ok my man needs his naps) Bond overhears M on the phone, equivocating like hell to get out of going somewhere. He asks her about it and she tells him it's her late husband's pregnant niece, calling to ask - yet again - whether M could be there with her when she is giving worth.
"I do not know what is wrong with that woman," M grumbles, "she is like a stray dog you will kick that comes back the next day wagging its tail again." "Well," Bond replies, "you did pull her out of an abusive relationship and helped her get back on her feet." M is mad that Bond is snooping around in her personal life again but this time, Bond isn't.
You see, he met the niece - Sarah - one day when he was getting drunk by visiting M's grave; they ended up going to a nearby cafe and chatting for hours where she told him all this--how she ran away from home when she was 17 with an older man who turned out to be a scumbag, how, M and her husband let her stay with them when things got rly bad and the ex soon left the country, looking visibly shaken, and died in a shady car crash a few months later.
"It's what anyone would have done," M replies, pursing her lips, and ignoring the elephant that seems to be growing by day of just how on point these supposedly false memories of Bond's are.
But it's not just that. M found Sarah crying one day at their house and chastised her with sthing like 'you can either let that dirtbag control the rest of your life or you can pick yourself up and decide for yourself what you want it to be--it's up to you whether you let him win' and that bit of tough love was what Sarah kept turning back to every subsequent time she faltered. She has told Bond as much. And M of course had no idea.

peds surgeon yuuta??? u cant say things like that i need to jump. the cartoons, the glasses, of course his freaky ass would have a thing for u calling him doctor okkotsu i need to die id wanna tease him sm and be all over him but i cant think of anything if its in a hospital how did the greys anatomy ppl made it work?
the grey’s doctors were FREAKS LMFAOO bc there is not space to be doing all that in the on call rooms…. honestly yuuta is probably too busy to even try anything with you in the hospital 90% of the time… he’s either in surgery or buried in the research library or falling asleep standing up 😭 sometimes you two pass each other in an empty stairwell and have time for a kiss or two, but never more than that (also because yuuta has very little self-restraint when it comes to you… if he allowed himself more than that, then it would be much harder to stop…)
sometimes the two of you will fall asleep in the same on call room. yuuta will page you there and by the time you arrive he’s already half asleep, it’s probably his only nap in the last 24 hours, so you do your best not to wake wake him when you cuddle up next to him. you get a few hours of bliss in his arms before his pager is waking the both of you up, and he’s got to scurry downstairs to the peds floor and in his hurry he doesn’t realize he’s snagged your lab coat instead of his own, and it’s only when he’s haphazardly slipped it on and the arms are too short and the shoulders are too tight that he figures it out. it’s too late by then, because gojo is the attending on this case which means he doesn’t miss anything, which means he’s the first to giggle and tease, poking at your name embroidered above the breast pocket, “oh? i didn’t know the two of you got married already! oh and you took her last name, how noble, yuuta!~”

I also like cannot talk about how much I love seven without it sounding like I am just Drawing Comparisons but can I just say I just love everything about her I love that she is trying sooo hard to learn how to coexist with the crew but it’s so unnatural to her so nobody gives her much credit but she does really genuinely tryyyy like in scientific method when she’s in the jeffries tube siphoning power from engineering without permission and b’elanna has to explain the idea of command structure she listens and apologizes but the idea of having to communicate verbally with others is so unbelievably foreign she’s so used to being able to just act automatically but she wants to be a part of the crew she even makes little jokes sometimes even if nobody really thinks she’s funny. But I do. I love you seven of nine
