tiny animation detail from this scene I really like: rook glances towards the locations of lucanis and bellara's rooms (and possibly where they're most likely to be found in this moment?) respectively when they deliver this line!
(honestly I expect that lucanis is hanging out somewhere other than the pantry during this to give everyone in this unfolding catastrophe some space, but consider: it's so much funnier if he IS sitting in the pantry hearing this all go down on the other side of the wall like
Tumblr media
taash stomps in with thunder and trepidation in their eyes like 'hey. I need vegetables. can we make vegetables happen.' and lucanis already handing them a lettuce and tomato like i gotchu fam this is literally the only thing I know how to do for you in this situation go with the maker and these salad ingredients I resignedly already know you'll just put on a plate with no dressing no spices no nothing. just the most sleep deprived caffeinated to the point of vibrating gently in place awkward-yet-painfully-well-meaning man in the world standing there before his friend about to have one of the most difficult conversations of their life like '...can I offer you a turnip in these trying times' while rye desperately treads social water out in the dining room to buy time. amazing. our lives really all do touch each other. headcanon passionately embraced)
#I love this scene honestly. it highlights all the ways taash and shathann struggle to communicate#(they are both people who are so exactly. themselves. for good or ill)#and has so many good 😬 moments for rook like they're watching a traincrash happen depending on how you play it#dragon age#dragon age: the veilguard#dragon age: the veilguard spoilers#oc: Ellaryen Ingellvar#taash#lucanis dellamorte#jeff berg's 'then why did you leave' still one of my fave deliveries in the whole game btw. so soft yet so intense#I've been thinking about building out some more parental figures for rye growing up aside from renn (whomst still is DAD don't get me wrong#and I'm thinking a reasonably high-level watcher who rye occasionally gets flashbacks to while talking to shathann...#could add some delicious dimensions to it all haha#like the moment the watchers realized their little crypt baby was a mage there was a mage watcher set to keep an eye on them#because poor renn cannot be expected to deal with all of all of that alone. hello. buddy cop platonic co-parents#making rye into the person he is today (a delight (to me and lucanis in particular) and also deeply deeply neurotic)???#I'm onto something here baby. it takes a necropolis to inadvertantly fuck up a child#hello. lucanis popping his head out from the pantry after shathann leaves and saving rye from having to eat a whole slab of ham#by claiming he is also hungry and could throw something together. true love. partnership. rye clutching him like I owe you my life etc.#also a good thing to imagine taash surrounded by people who love and understand them after that scene#just. it's nice.

and if I said that dennis’ insistence on being the breadwinner/provider despite literally being a pampered princess who dgaf about traditional roles of masculinity in every other regard (aside from ego) is because his mom only stayed with/chose frank for his wealth and dennis is highly aware that he’s difficult to love and unable to show his emotions openly so he has to be contributing something to the relationship materially in order to feel like he’s worth staying for… and mac grew up with parents who were extremely ambivalent to him and eachother so he has to overcompensate by proving his worth at every given moment and seeking praise/validation from people (and religious icons) who will never demonstrate the same amount of dedication to him but he has no idea how else to desperately keep himself close to those he loves other than by eroding himself into something they’ll approve of… dear god they’re both exactly what the other needs — someone who can’t and won’t leave them even if they try — and they don’t even see it…

I need to tell them. Those were the words occupying Robbie's mind throughout the afternoon with his parents. But why ruin a good day? Any parent would react badly hearing the news of their son quitting his career at a highly respected company. Robbie knew Leilani would react less severely, given her positive outlook on all situations, so when Bryce went to buy some food, he took the opportunity.
Tumblr media
Having finally discussed the matter, Robbie felt an immediate sense of relief. "Oh come here, darling, you did the right thing quitting." It pained Leilani to hear her son struggling and concealing this information from her, "You must always prioritise yourself and that job wasn't doing you any good...I just want you to be happy and healthy Robbie." When Bryce returned, Robbie took a deep breath and said, "Dad, there's something you should know."
Tumblr media
Bryce pressured Robbie to be successful without fully realising it. These were things such as comparing him to Renee, always asking about work research and setting high expectations given their shared love for biology and science. When Renee and Robbie secured good jobs, he boasted about them to friends and family, which undoubtedly unnerved Robbie anytime reality didn't meet expectations. Now that he quit his job, it was that fear of disappointment.
Tumblr media
Faced with his dad, Robbie felt like he impulsively threw away his ambition, when he could've resolved the issues by dismissing them until things went away. Anger welled up in Bryce's eyes after the conversation and Robbie braced himself for the sighs and disapproval.
Tumblr media
"Who are those co-workers Robbie??? I'm gonna teach those jerks a lesson cos no one messes with my son!" Bryce responded with an assertiveness in his voice, hinting he'd do anything to defend his family. As much as Robbie would've liked to see that, it wasn't the most sensible action. "T-Thanks Dad, but I've moved on from those events," Robbie admitted, still taken aback by his reaction. "I'm sorry I couldn't give you a better upbringing, I-I never meant to put that much pressure," Bryce explained after calming down, "I just want the best for you."
Tumblr media
"Look, I'm proud of you. You don't have to reach the top of your career or earn the big wages-…hell you don't even have to prove anything to show me that. I'm already so proud of you every minute and every day, because you are my son."

This was going to be a panel of a little comic but I got too invested in drawing minute background details so, here.
#They are having an argument over 1) whether crops can be grown on the moons 2) what - if any - impact does this have on the feasibility#of an afterlife being located on the moons#Brakul is a partial convert to the Imperial Wardi faith but this mostly entails having adopted the seven faced God (and some#other elements of the belief system) into his worldview and participating in expected rites while retaining his central#ancestor veneration practices completely unchanged and mostly prioritized.#This doesn't actually cause much friction in of itself with the big exception being disagreements on the afterlife#Wardi practices surrounding death prioritize proper handling of the corpse and funerary rites in order to get the dead where they#need to be- death is a fraught transition from one state to another. analogous to birth. The role of the living is to get the dead through#this transition (preventing them from being stuck earthbound as earthbound ghosts - which is the Bad afterlife). Once the dead#make it to the moons that's it. They don't really interact with the living. There's plenty of conceptualization of what it's Like#in the lunar lands but the cultural priority is not even slightly on the Logistics of existence there.#Whereas the CORE of religious practice among the Hill Tribes is ancestor veneration - ancestors remain interactive with the living#and require/desire their continual support. They are conceptualized as having earthlike 'lives' where they eat and drink#and grow crops and herd livestock and they need the support of the living (in prayers and offerings) to do so prosperously.#There is a HIGH cultural priority on the logistics of their afterlife and it's self-apparent that the world of the dead needs fertile earth#to support them.#So like bottom line Brakul thinks there's no goddamn way that the moons could support an afterlife (they are described as#barren rock that was flung into the sky during creation and certainly Look that way)#and that the Wardi are just wrong about their afterlife's location. They probably go to the celestial fields (which are located#behind the moons and stars) like everyone else#And Janeys finds this aggravating and doesn't see his fucking point but has developed a nagging concern that Brakul Could be#partly right in that the celestial fields could Maybe exist in addition to the lunar lands.#So like maybe they aren't going to go to the same place when they die?#He's already terrified that he'll be stuck as an earthbound ghost and really doesn't want to be even further separated so#he figures he should make sure he gets himself dead and cremated at the same time as Brakul so they can navigate the#transitional period together.#Brakul is unconcerned because he figures that if Janeys actually does get stuck on those barren ass moons he can just kinda#Go Get Him#Ancestor spirits fly to the earth all the time and the moons would be a much shorter distance. Probably wouldn't be an issue.#Long story short these disagreements and underlying anxieties result in fights over whether you can grow corn on the moons or nah

I have the flu right now so I might just be feeling ornery but every time I see people saying things like "Oooh Kabru is a psychopath he killed those people omggg how scary" I want to grab them and shake them with both hands.
WHAT DO YOU THINK SWORDS ARE FOR???? SWORDS ARE FOR KILLING PEOPLE. HE HAS TRAINED SINCE CHILDHOOD TO STAB PEOPLE WITH BLADES.
STABBING PEOPLE WITH BLADES IS THE HONORABLE FAMILY PROFESSION OF THE PERSON WHO TRAINED HIM. SO FOR THOUSANDS OF YEARS THEY HAVE ALSO BEEN STABBING PEOPLE WITH BLADES.
THEY LIVE IN A SETTING WHERE STABBING PEOPLE WITH SWORDS IS NORMAL AND HAS BEEN NORMAL FOR A LONG TIME. HE'S JUST GOOD AT HIS JOB.

Toshinori and Inko finding out their pregnant a year into marriage and just sitting staring at the test like...oh. This was not exactly in the plan...nor did they even think it was possible??
They tell Izuku first of course and when they do he actually thinks they're kidding! Haha! That's actually...pretty funny, guys...uhhh...why do you both look so serious.......oh, oh shit. OH. All Might and Mom are having a kid? He's going to be a brother? In his twenties??? HUH?
Cut to nine months later and Izuku's holding his little sister, Toshinori beside him, arm around his shoulder, as Inko watches on with love and pride, because their family feels even more complete than it was before.

gonna throw some thoughts out there about this preview from noah wyle's appearance on the late show (preview starts at 15 seconds and ends at 1 minute for those who want to watch) because the LAYERS just in that 45 second clip they showed us...god. this is really long btw that's why it's all under the cut.
starting with langdon saying "i could lose my medical license" like that combined with that he told dana about losing his job in the ep preview at the end of episode 14 shows so many signs of him trying to scale down the problem to something he can control. there's so many other implications (what this means for his family being a big one), and the one he can reach without totally freaking out is "i could lose my job and the medical license i've spent the last 12 years of my life working for", which is huge but not as vague as "what will abby say and what does it mean for my kids that their dad is addicted to drugs and what will my parents think and how do i get help and what kind of help is it" and the thousand other questions swirling in his head. losing his medical license isn't a small consequence by any means, but it's the only tangible one, which means that's what he's latching onto to feel more in control.
the second chance robby offers is a really good one, and i've seen a lot of people wondering why langdon won't take it. and tbh that's just because asking for help when you're in a crisis (addiction, mental health crisis, instability in your living situation, etc) is difficult even if you know you need it. like let's remember that langdon is the exact kind of person that's socialized to absolutely never ask for help. he probably thinks he can handle it himself, but also admitting that he needs the help means admitting that he is actually in a crisis, and that's scary. no one wants to admit that they're struggling with something that big, especially when the fallout will hurt so many other people.
so naturally, langdon deflects. he throws robby's "you need help" right back in his face, and let's face it, robby does need help. like we all know it, everyone in the show knows it, and langdon especially knows it. like "i'm not the only one who's a little fucked up here. why don't you look in the mirror?" that's just so good. robby wants to mentor langdon the same way adamson mentored him. hell, he even wrote langdon's rec letter for an incredibly selective teaching fellowship. they are mirrors of each other. langdon is potentially what robby was like as a resident, and if langdon doesn't learn how to ask for help, he will become exactly like robby is now. which, as we can all see, is not good.
and robby knows this. he knows he needs help, he knows that there's a culture in their profession about not asking for help and "do as i say and not as i do", but he's more than happy to ignore it. so he and langdon start throwing arguments at each other that hurt on a personal level. and the real kicker? robby is the one that throws the most personal jabs as a way to shove all his guilt and blame and betrayal onto langdon so robby doesn't have to feel it himself. yeah langdon went low (and somewhat illogical) with the breakdown and "don't blame me for what happened to you" comments, but robby went even lower. like "you just cause them [breakdowns] in other people" and "you let me down. you let everybody down"...ouch.
another thing is, there's no way robby didn't start seeing warning signs in langdon earlier. a couple people have already said this, but robby's been working in the ER for a little over 20 years. he knows how addiction works, what dozens if not hundreds of people act like when they're either high or going through withdrawals and everything in between. he just refused to see it. he didn't want to see it. robby wanted to believe that langdon was the version of himself that never messed up, and because of that he missed every single sign. other people didn't notice because they either assume langdon is just "like that", they respect him too much, they haven't known him long enough, or he's staying away from anyone who might notice (remember, langdon and mckay don't know each other well, and this might be intentional on his end. he doesn't want to be around anyone who will notice). but robby? he probably had a feeling deep down, ignored it because he didn't want to accept that someone as skilled as langdon could be struggling with something so severe, and now blames himself for it getting as bad as it did even though it's not his fault. like it's on no one but langdon that he kept using and ended up stealing, but if robby did notice, there is something to say for him not intervening sooner (i'm not gonna get into this because something tells me this debate would be like trying to dismantle an active bomb that only has 3 seconds left). robby, either consiously or subconsiously, put langdon on a pedestal, and because of that pedestal, he couldn't see the obvious signs that langdon was struggling that were right in front of his face.
langdon needs help. robby needs help. the difference is that if langdon didn't acknowledge somewhere deep down that he needs help, he wouldn't have kept trying to call robby and plead his case. he wouldn't be near tears telling dana that robby thinks he's a drug addict. robby continues to ignore what's wrong with him and continues to assume that he knows best despite constant evidence that the opposite is true. robby thinks he's beyond help and decided that he can keep going as he is, but he can mentor langdon to be his "second chance" in some way. he wants langdon to get help, but robby refuses to handle his own bullshit and quite literally stomps away like a child when he's called out on it. once again, he's exhibiting "do as i say, not as i do" behavior, which is not something he should want to model for residents or students. robby doesn't think he can be the one to fix this toxicity around asking for help in crisis, so he shoves it on langdon (or dana or collins or abbot or even whitaker at this point) so he can avoid it. robby needs langdon to hurt so he doesn't have to, and that's the part of this argument that makes me sick because it shows that for all of robby's talk about how "we're failing our boys" and that people need to be listened to and helped, he won't do the work to fix those issues himself once they start to effect him.
ANYWAY that's my analysis. if you read it all the way to the end you are amazing. langdon as someone robby is trying to mold into a better version of himself because langdon seemingly has everything robby could never have is my FAVORITE interpretation of what the hell is going on there btw. and it shows SO WELL in this clip.

The fact that Ruben doesn’t remember what happened is absolutely sending me.
Like, imagine your name is Ruben Hopclap. You wake up in front of a ruined school gym wearing clothes you don’t recognize and missing your favorite necklace. You don’t remember falling asleep. Your chest hurts.
Uncle Henry is there talking to principal Auegfort over scraps of a robot. For a moment he looks at you like you’re a ghost before wrapping you in a tight hug. He asks what you remember. You tell him you remember packing your bag to go to the mountains of chaos for your spring break quest. You don’t remember anything after that. He hugs you again.
Your party’s there too. Most of them at least. Along with another party that you recognize as the Bad Kids, the most infamous party in your grade, maybe in the whole school. You tamp down any jealousy you might feel about that when you see the way that Mary Ann Almost-but-not-quite smiles at their barbarian. Instead you go to where Oisin and Ivy are huddle together, speaking softly to each other.
You ask where Kipperlily is. They look uncomfortable. For a moment you think about asking after Buddy, but then you realize you don’t know who that is. They keep avoiding answering the question, so you walk away. You almost go to talk to Lucy, but you see how uncomfortable she looks, how she flinches away when you start to move towards her. You decide to leave her alone.
Eventually Henry takes you home. On the drive home he turns on the radio and you hear yourself singing a song you’ve never heard. It’s loud and chaotic and so so angry. The sound of it makes you want to throw up. You turn it off and ride in silence back to the house.
The walls of your bedroom have been painted a deep, bloody red. There’s an electric guitar that you don’t know how to play leaning against the wall. Your desk is covered in notes and plans, some of it written in codes you can’t decipher. That doesn’t really matter because you don’t understand the stuff that’s not in code either.
Your parents look almost scared of you when you ask where your normal clothes are. They tell you that you got rid of them. They keep apologizing, like they think you’ll get mad at them. You tell them it’s okay, but still search your closet for something a bit more your style. You find a box shoved into a corner, under some clothes. Inside is your puka shell necklace and your ukulele. The string on the necklace is broken like it had been ripped off. The body of the ukulele is cracked like it had been thrown to the ground. You decide to deal with that in the morning.
You fall asleep and you dream of a girl. She’s a tiefling with red and black raccoon streaks in her hair. She smiles at you with lips painted black. If you stare at her for too long you can see blood dripping out of those lips and a crossbow bolt lodged in her side. You look at her and feel longing, feel grief, feel betrayal. You want to stop dreaming of her, but some part of you knows that any other dream would be filled with blood and crystals and rage. You accept that you are doomed to Wanda.
