I will never get over the fact that rick riordan's favorite way of uplifting other characters is to tear percy jackson down
#he does this A Lot#and this is no hate to those characters. i love them#i just think they deserve better than “ur great bc u do x better than percy”#like it. always. comes down to what someone did or didnt do in comparison to percy and how it makes them Better#ex: leo and calypso#nico and bob#jason and apollo#jason and nico.. i could go on#its even worse when percy's not even in character in half these scenarios. they feel like someone else's interpretation of his character#that doesnt understand him at all post pjo lol#or when the text demonizes him. like yea ur a bad person for not checking in on a titan that was set on killing u before u wiped his memory#ur a bad person bc u didnt check in on calypso even tho ur the one who made the gods swear an oath to release her and then got kidnapped#it happens even with percabeth's new characterization in the marketing trilogy#percy just cant have his moments anymore bc the only way rr can have other characters shine is by tearing percys down#and they ALL deserve better than that.#he also started doing this with his looks if we're being honest.#everyone is Hot and Perfect but percy cant have muscles in the marketing trilogy .. even tho hes on the swim team and clearly fit#hes not allowed to rest or make mistakes bc it makes him a shitty person and hero#his moments get misconstructed and turned into something else (calypso being his biggest what if and asking for her to be set free#-> ur just like every other hero that left her heartbroken)#sometimes i also feel like hes the only one who gets held accountable and cant escape his imperfect moments#no one else's mistakes get repeatedly brought up as much as percy's#like atp i feel like hes held more accountable than the gods lmfao (toa! apollo not counted obv)#whatever tho#every character has their flaws but they dont always get *presented* as flaws. except for percy's tho he's the Bad Guy for his#pjo#pjo hoo toa#percy jackson#cotg#wottg

anyway i think the funniest way to hc teru as trans is to have him not know that there are trans people other than him. he woke up one day when he was 11 and was like oh of course i can be a boy i am the main character and most special person and then he just attacked anyone who said he couldn’t with his psychic powers.

Ok ok hang on-
Has no one, ever, once, mentioned how fucking golden it is that Damian exists?
Look at this kid. Look at him. It’s a child. A child. Not only a child- but a literal, physical, emotional copy of Bruce. Bruce.
Holy fucking shit guys the potential.
The batkids, every single one of them, has beef with Bruce in one form or another. Dick more than any of them.
And then there comes this kid. This fucking child.
And hes been raised by assassins and that explains and excuses a lot- but he literally Bruce.
But they cant hate this child. Thats…childish.
And thats what makes him so perfect.
Because Damian is Bruce as a child, and as such, he gets away with the things Bruce cannot get excused by being young.
The other kids have to witness these habits, and they joke and tease and are like “oh our own little Bruce”
But they cant complain. They can’t hate him. He’s a kid. He doesn’t know better.
…So, how do none of them connect the dots that- maybe, just maybe, Damian now is Bruce now, except Damian now will outgrow this because he has them, and Bruce never did.
Idk. just thoughts.

it's cool if I ramble about yes man unprompted right. ofc it is. i wanna talk about his capacity for violence bc I think it's one of the most interesting parts of his character
yes man is nice. obviously he's nice. but yes man is not a kind character. he helps you, sure, but that's mostly just because he likes you specifically (and even that's debatable depending on how you play). i feel like this is exemplified w his pre-combat lines– "a pulled trigger's a happy trigger!" and "woo! bang bang!" like, he's clearly having fun! he takes glee in killing people, but not because he's sadistic, but because he just doesn't realize the weight of taking a life- or if he does, it just doesn't matter to him.
he was programmed without a sense of morality or an understanding of mortality. to him, violence is second nature. to him, violence is no different from play. he's like a guard dog– he doesn't care who he's shooting or why, he's just excited to do the thing he's good at.
and on one hand, he is a fantastic guard dog. but on the other hand, six must watch how... efficiently he kills, and wonder if they'll ever wind up on the receiving end of it. he wouldn't do it as long as he likes six, of course, but... if yes man was given good enough reason to believe six deserved to die, would he even hesitate? would their history and relationship mean anything to him? or would six just be another target, forgotten about as quickly as a radroach you stepped on?
six can only hope they never need to find out.

Actually it turns out I had more thoughts about that post that I forgot about lol
Would Nightmare actually give up his boys? Yes and no
If it was just a black and white situation of they're miserable, they don't wanna be here, they have somewhere better to be, then yes. He would leave them out to wherever they needed to be despite his own feelings and very quickly realise afterwards just how much he'd gotten used to the noise and company. I think he would get a little clingy with Dream about it, which I'm sure Dream would find very weird after everything but not unwelcome, he did miss his brother after all.
(If he couldn't attach himself to Dream's side for whatever reason, I think he might just sit in his castle and go insane. Or maybe he'd just spend all day at Ccino's trying really hard to project that he just likes the atmosphere and isn't lonely as hell)
But the thing is, most of them don't have somewhere better to be. Horror has his au, and Nightmare would keep up the supply of food even if Horror said he wanted to quit at this point, so he would understandably let him return home. Killer, Dust and Cross effectively don't have aus anymore though, and they tend to get into self-destructive habits when they're left to their own devices. (Obviously bringing Color and Epic into the mix to make sure Killer and Cross are taken care of eases matters, but Dust doesn't really have any friends outside their group he could go stay with - that Nightmare knows about at least).
The flipside of this is that his boys may not necessarily want to be given up. I think if Nightmare got really in his head about this he could easily end up convinced this is the right thing to do without ever asking them if it's what they want, with potentially terrible results. He's established such a pattern of always returning to find Killer when they get seperated, that if he never showed up Killer might just keep sitting there and waiting for him greyfriar's bobby style, refusing to leave because he's certain his boss is coming back.
#UTDR#UTMV#Dadmare#Horror and Dust might take it slightly better but I think they still wouldn't appreciate being rehomed out of the blue with no discussion#Don't get me started on Cross he has such a bad track record with people not showing up for him as it is#If Nightmare left him to live with Epic one day Cross would spend the rest of his life thinking he did something wrong#and wondering what it was that he wasn't worth keeping#I do think the idea of him getting glued to Dream's hip must be funny for Blue tho#''Yes this is the being of all negativity in the multiverse. Don't mind him we're holding hands because he gets seperation anxiety''#I feel like a lot of this could come from Color's suspicion of him. because he's very much on Killer's side from the beginning#And Nightmare wasn't good at the beginning so it's understandable. it's hard to take Killer's word that he's changed because#Killer /would/ say that whether it's true or not y'know?#But I think Color shining a light on how things began makes Nightmare reflect a lot on their situation#Not to say that Color's the bad guy or anything obviously. He's respecting Killer's decisions while also keeping a good level of suspicion#about how Nightmare treats them when he's not around#It just makes Nightmare uneasy because he's made a lot of mistakes in the past and he's still learning#He is - for now at least - very very aware of just how mortal they are#And he wants to do right by them. even if it means giving them up to better places#I need to finish my fanfic... Anyway.#Luckily for him - in this particular case - this is where they are all best suited c:#Alright I let this cook in my drafts for about 3 days with some edits it can be posted now lol

Durgetash Resurrection AU
"Is that...? That's my body. I remember now. The Morphic Pool. The Elder Brain, it... I was dead. What did you do?" "I made a deal... with Lord Bane."
#durgetash#bg3#enver gortash#the dark urge#durgetash resurrection au#it's about time i made some durgetash content that isn't just shitposting lol#i promise i do plan to actually write this fic#god i know this looks like a happy reunion but i promise it will not be that simple#he's not exactly happy she's usurped him as bane's chosen#and the torture he experienced at bane's hand when he was dead does impact him significantly#but at the same time he's glad it's over so he's also grateful too#but also he spent so much time in hell as a child wishing someone would come save him until he learned he couldn't rely on anyone else#that now that someone actually has saved him he doesn't know how to process it#and yes bane doesn't insist on having just one chosen but he's not going to re-accept gortash easily#he'll have to prove himself all over again whereas durge is on top of the world right now#and he doesn't want her hand outs#and bane may say he's fine with them ruling together for now but you just know he's going to pit them against each other too#and durge is hardly soft herself. she saved him for her own reasons but she's not going to give up power for him. the netherbrain is HERS.#she betrayed her father for this. she became a new person for this. she's not here just for him but she wants him here with her.#he can share her throne but he better understand who's in charge here. she'll tadpole him too if she has to.#though she hopes he won't make her do that (not that she'll tell him she hopes that)#and he hates her for it but he also wouldn't respect her if she were any different#it's complicated#plus they have to deal with any interpersonal drama while also trying to take over the world 😂#because despite how the “control the netherbrain” ending makes it seem#the journals and plans in gortash's office make it clear that not everyone in baldur's gate is tadpoled. not even close.#(the brain doesn't produce nearly enough tadpoles for that)#so they have to deal with keeping the rest of the population in line & trying to militarize the city & get footholds in other cities#not to mention they have to counteract the fact that every god and other powerful being in the world is going to be working against them#tennetash

Honestly if Derap feels betrayed by Zam playing both sides he lowkey had it coming, because playing both sides was exactly what he was doing when he teamed with 4c and hid the exploits from zam for so long, or when he worked with Mapicc to kill Pangi behind Pangi's back.
And the thing is, he most definitely is going to feel betrayed. Because for the whole season, it has been a pattern where Derap points out how things other people are doing makes them untrustworthy and how they are being dumb for not realizing that what they are doing is hurting they're closest teammate, and then he would turn around and do the exact same thing to his own allies and teammates. For the whole season, he's been trying so hard to make people stay with him while using the worst methods possible. He can easily pinpoint when other people are being hypocrites but even when he does acknowledge that the things he did where wrong and hurt people, he doesn't entertain the train of thought for long enough to actually change his actions.
In a way, it is kinda poetic that the way he might end up losing another one of his closest teammates again is by them not even trying to outright betray him, Zam just wanted to do what she thinks is best for server, and at the end of the day she still trusts Derap and cares about him, but she's still gonna go through with it, the same way Derap went through with so many stuff despite knowing it would hurt his teammates.
And like, realistically, regardless of how it went, there's a very high chance Derap might not stop to consider his actions, there's a high chance he's just gonna double down on the "no one trusts me and all my teammates leave me but also I'm gonna continue to do things they don't like behind their back. No idea why they don't trust me though" route. But I think that out of all the ways sunkissed could stop being teammates this season, out of all the ways they could've possibly betrayed each other, the one way where it isn't even intended to be a betrayal is probably the best way to make the problems they had while being teammates so clear. It's not a solution or complete conclusion to an arc, but it's the best way they could rip the band-aid off, make everything that has been boiling up come to a point where it's basically impossible to ignore, and even if things are not solved, maybe it will open a door to change in the future

i cannot ever get over gi-hun actually. the fact that he chooses to believe in the good of humanity even after witnessing what he has, and that he joins the games AGAIN with (mathematically) even LESS chances of survival JUST because he wants to save people, people who DON'T CARE, people who are SELFISH and who continuously betray and hurt him just fucking KILLS ME. a very big critique from many people (and i've noticed, especially men) about the second season and gi-hun's character is that he is stupid. they find him to be stupid that he has this weak spot for an uncaring crowd, that he comes back to the games to save people who wouldn't think of him twice, instead of going to his daughter. they think that him caring and despising a system this deeply is a sign of weakness and stupidity.
but if anything, i find it admirable. maybe i can't bring myself to hate him because i think i'd do the same thing. i watch him on-screen and think, "yeah, i would do that too", every single mistake, every single thing, i get him. and he may look stupid to some but i think if anything, he's just too caught up in an ideal world in which people care, but i find it admirable that this is his personality even after witnessing the previous games. he still has hope, they haven't wiped it away from him. comparing him to in-ho is like night and day, because in-ho was broken by the games and came back to perpetuate that same hurtful system, while gi-hun was broken by the games and came back to break the people that created the system, and the system itself.
he speaks to me, as an individual who clings to hope until his very last breath, who can never seem to learn from his mistakes because he is so stubborn, he wants to prove that humanity could, and should, have hope and that it's worth to fight for it, not to just leave for a different continent and forget about it. that's what draws me to him, this endless fight in him, i can't find him stupid because he's so desperate to change things. and he never gives up even after his friends die before him.
idk i just am really unwell about gi-hun. i think people treat him too harshly. i'm unsure how well this is worded, but what i really want to say is that i don't think he should be perfect and immediately learn from every single mistake he has ever made. the fact that he is this broken given his past, even before the games he's set up as this really caring and traumatized individual, and that they double down on his same characteristics that make him so incredibly real... he's just really special to me. i really admire the way he is written and i think he's a really good representation of people who fight for a change even when it all seems lost. he's just that kind of guy that doesn't, couldn't, will never give up. and i really love that.
#he's so fucking stubborn and i get why people see him as an idiot; because they're people that think things don't change#that people will always stay the same and life will never get any better; people who don't have fight in them; people without hope#but that's exactly why i like gi-hun; he's the opposite of them; he wants to change things and for things to change even if it kills him#and to his last fucking breath he will want things to change; to his last breath he will rebel against the system#maybe he shouldn't have come back to the games; maybe he should've gone to america to live a life of comfort; maybe he should have stopped#fighting a long time ago#but he didn't. because he's not that type of person. he's the type of person that keeps fucking fighting. until his very last breath.#i think he's a really beautiful character. that's the only way i can describe him atp: beautiful. he's got a kind soul. he has hope.#i understand why some people don't like him or disagree with his morals; i really do. i do sometimes think there's no hope and that the -#system and that people will never change. but there need to be people like gi-hun for things to change.#you can't just forget about the games and go to america to live a life of comfort; ignoring the fact that things are bad for fake comfort.#sometimes you have to take matters into your own hands and go out and rejoin those damn games. even if it kills you.#there needs to be people like gi-hun in this world. there just needs to be.#we would never get anywhere without people like gi-hun.#seong gi hun#gi hun#player 456#squid game#character analysis#my rambles

I just finished watching The Old Guard (banger movie by the way, absolutely recommend if anyone’s been debating it), so naturally my brain went the route of Old Guard DBDA au. I don’t know any details; all I can think of so far is that Charles and Edwin are a pair of immortals that have been at it for a while together, and the timeline of the story starts with the appearance of a new immortal: Crystal. As for what’s beyond that, idk—are there other people on Charles’s and Edwin’s immortal team? Or are they just a duo? Idk if the immortality loss thing happens to either of them, I’m leaning towards no if it’s just the two of them… but like. It would fit SO well.
I’m already kind of envisioning that it’s just been Edwin and Charles, doing good and helping people from the shadows for decades (or maybe even centuries if we stretch out the timeline a bit); not a direct role-for-role cast replacement of the Old Guard, but more of an insertion into the story structure/world. Like, Edwin as the older of the two, having become immortal a while before Charles and almost immediately getting trapped and spending a canon-adjacent length of time being tortured for his abilities—then escaping a short while before Charles appears and he starts having dreams about him. Their deaths could even be similar to canon: Edwin gets sacrificed (literal sacrifice rather than a prank this time) or maybe even put to death for suspected homosexuality and comes back; Charles dies of hypothermia and internal bleeding after his “friends” turn on him, but he doesn’t STAY dead. Edwin has dreams of cold, and pain—utter impenetrable cold—and of an attic, and a lake, and he sees Charles’s face—he decides he has to find him.
Then Crystal comes around, and maybe she has a similar background to canon—maybe even with the memory loss? Like, her toxic ex-boyfriend kills her and she comes back without a bunch of her memories—some kind of complication with the process—and she gets them back gradually over the course of the story (probably as multiple deaths clear things up/shift things back to normal). When Charles and Edwin find her, there’s a lot of complicated emotions, stemming from—well, both of them wondering why NOW, why another one after probable centuries of it just being them, but where Edwin is resistant and standoffish (he doesnt trust new people this close, why did it have to change, their life was FINE as it was), Charles is excited to have a new person around!! Someone they won’t lose!! Someone like them!! And meanwhile Crystal is just,, fucking REELING from this and also maybe being stalked by her crazy power-hungry toxic ex-boyfriend who was maaaaybe in the government the whole time and dating her because her parents had whopping political status. It’s a lot.
Shit, maybe Esther could even be another immortal—one Edwin and Charles don’t know about; one that’s removed from the dream-connection somehow, or one that they haven’t been able to pin down/get clear enough memories from to realize it’s a whole other person and not just, like, them having weird dreams and shit. And maybe Esther LOSING her immortality correlates with Crystal gaining hers, and Esther tries to figure out a way to steal the boys’ immortality somehow to get hers back… or maybe she’s NOT an immortal, but more of a Merrick-type character that finds out about the immortals and wants to take their power for herself? Idk.
Last thing I’ve been thinking about is, I want Niko to be an immortal too… but is she an immortal from the start? Probably not. Maybe she’s a normal mortal girl they meet while dealing with Esther and all get really attached to, who then breaks everyone’s hearts by dying when she tries to help Crystal get the boys back from Esther, providing Crystal’s first big lesson about the futility of relationships with normal human beings (while still being worth the pain for the value of the love while its there)… UNTIL she comes to in her grave in Japan weeks or months later, and the inside of a coffin shows up in all of their dreams. Or something.
I am hereby inviting anyone who wishes to participate in this idea with me to do so, in any way you please
#add-on ideas or completely different interpretations of what a dbda/old guard crossover/AU could look like. all is welcome#magpie thoughts#dbda#dead boy detectives#the old guard#is the cat king an immortal to? but one that’s not on The Team because he likes his solo life just fine and also Charles hates his guts#because he hits on Edwin every time they meet up?#the possibilities are endless#payneland#Edwin Payne#crystal palace#god im just thinking about how PERFECTLY Edwin’s torture fits into this scenario… he gets captured and killed over and over and OVER again#for more years than he can count… pushed further and further; torn up in more and more horrible gruesome ways every time; because every time#he heals and comes back; good as new… even if it takes a week for his body to regenerate from being chewed to pieces… he comes back…#until he learns to fight his way out. until he maps the entire facility they keep him in—its changed over the years; gotten more advanced.#moved location—and forgets more ways of killing his captors than most soldiers ever learn. and he makes it out#then a few years later. he isnt alone anymore#and Charles… Charles who is glad he didn’t die but he still lost his chance at LIFE… he is glad he left his house with all his dad’s anger#but he never got to GROW UP… never got to make a family (better than the one that made him) or get a job or graduate college (im mentally#aging them up a bit in my head. just because) or any of the things he’d planned to do… and he loves Edwin SO MUCH and wouldn’t trade this#for ANYTHING now that he has it. but he never got his mom out. she turned away from him when she was on her deathbed because he was the same#age he’d been when he left forty years ago and she didn’t believe it was him. years that he would have been able to have going back home for#family dinners—or having his mom come to him; or going wherever she’d gone if she got away from his dad—lost to checking in on them through#papers and records and windows and down the booth at a restaurant with a mask on his face so they couldn’t tell it was him. things edwin#doesnt quite understand; things he doesn’t get because he doesnt even remember his parents or family.#he’s always seemed so much happier without them—like he didn’t even need those memories—and Charles tried to do the same.#and if we want to bump up the ‘’time goes on’’ angst. throw a little sister into the mix. make him have a younger sister named Clementine#who he has to watch grow up from a distance. who he visits on HER deathbed (maybe instead of his mom) and who pushes him away. or who DOESNT#push him away but its still heartbreaking because the last time he saw her she was a teenager or a little kid and now she’s an old woman. he#never got to watch her grow up and now he’s losing her. and he’s stuck behind.

let's all think about roman literally on his knees at gerri’s feet, begging to be saved. but you can’t be saved from Logan, that’s the whole point, he is a planet of a person he’s a black hole he is every decision already made. gerri tries to get him to see this — there’s no way out, no move they could possibly make against him, because Logan. always. wins. maybe if roman could give her one reason to fight for him, but there aren’t any. it’s pointless. it has nothing to do with roman, really, and everything to do with the harsh reality that Logan is the center of their universe. but all that nuance is completely lost on roman, because in that room he is seven years old again and always. and when she asks how it serves her interests, what she is saying is show me a way out, but what he hears is that she doesn't care about him. and maybe she never did.
#that was their real relationship shattering moment imo. can’t come back from that one if you never ever talk about it again#succession#romangerri#to be so clear: she cares. she cares so much it makes her look stupid. but she Is her job and that is her priority#but ALso when she says how does it serve my interests. we could also count him as one of her interests.#and how would it serve either of them if she gets fucking decapitated and frozen out and left to die. how could she do ANYTHING from there.#like yes i do think that she is also saying the plain text version of it - how does this benefit me personally. because it sure doesn't#but the power of the unconscious unspoken 'what benefits me includes you' whoooo now that. is crazymaking#if half of your two-person team just got financially and professionally obliterated. i probably would not follow him off that cliff#i think i would probably say wow your son is craaazy i totally support everything you're doing from a business angle.#even if it's a terrible interpersonal move and you WILL die alone.#like she could be (almost) completely honest and still keep his trust and her position. and then he's dead and who's next?#Gerri has a better understanding of Logan's impending death than maybe anybody. ESPECIALLY Logan. easy hill to die on because it is textual#she also doesn't grieve him at all and there are many reasons for that! but i think mostly it's that she saw it coming#only girlie besides tom who understood the concept of succession but like for real#okay done typing now#sp#i love my freakies okay leave me alone

I like to imagine that after some time ccDonnie gets really into training with his bō and in training in general. He's such a solution orientated person I feel like it would get really unbearable for him to feel like he's the weakest and defenseless - after all isn't all of this his fault for being so dense that he could not tell that something was oh so obviously wrong with his brothers and for being so weak that he ended up getting so physically hurt? So really this is something he needs to fix again. Focusing too much on his tech has made him a liability and bad at reading his brothers, so he tries to balance tech and training more.
So I imagine that as an adult Donnie is quite a scary aggressive fighter - softshell turtles are quite aggressive in nature after all, precisely because of their softness - and appears quite distant and cold to outsiders. You would have to know him for quite some while and be really attentive to notice that at heart he is far more gentle mannered and soft, but the most important people in his life already know that.
Also!! I love it when in tmnt whump writers use turtle behaviours as therapy - like swimming being therapeutic. Maybe ccDonnie would also really enjoy swimming and letting his mind rest after all this?
I really liked the animatic!!!! And can't wait for the last chapter of cc! Sending love
honestly this is something i could see! combat is going to be a hard thing for donnie to go back to in particular even without his brothers because he's kind of conditioned himself to panic and do little, curl up in a ball and steel himself. and mixed with the final attack i think he's just going to have problems getting back into the environment and mindset
but like, when he does? i could definitely see some overcompensating going on. donnie gettting vicious out of fear of being helpless again. being triggered and seeing red, falling back hard on the urge to fight back that DID save his life. it stopped leo from slitting his throat and held raph off, really. its still frenzied and panicked but there's an edge of uncharacteristic anger there. he'd otherwise normally be very precise and tactical in his combat, and i do think it'd be a skill he would put a lot of focus on.
im unsure about socially though. i could see him giving off that energy because he would be quiet for SURE, and he always looks on edge and nervous (which can be interpreted as "fuck off" body language lmao) but donnie is hyperaware of other people and he always will be going forward. when he actually opens his mouth he'll be very appeasing, at first at least. i do think he'll be really nervous around new people and it'll make it hard for him to find new connections, but he'll actually be one of the better ones with that. leo will be nasty because of paranoia for a long time.
(also omg yeah i am a little envious because i would LOVE to meditate underwater ... just go under there for ages and chill ... need to project this urge onto him it sounds so calming)

ive been thinking about this but. i think shuro understands laios' character pretty well, but he doesn't value his strengths or interests (monster knowledge). in the DVD extra where laios imagines what would have happened if they'd been on better terms, shuro STILL leaves because he thinks his chances are better with a trained crew (which....... is likely to be true but. look at how he ended up anyway lmao). meanwhile kabru recognises that while the party isnt particularly strong, the reason they get so far in the first place is BECAUSE of what laios knows about monsters. shuro seems aware that laios knows about monsters or has an interest in them, but views this as frivolous and a waste of time and doesn't seem to realise how much this knowledge carried them in the first place
