so, one aspect of catelyn which i think is underrated (certainly the biggest adaptation loss which nobody talks about) is her, let's say superstitiousness, or better yet, let's call it genre-savviness, being one of the few adult characters open to magic and the supernatural in this fantasy world. we first meet her in the godswood, home of gods which are not truly hers, yet she is still very aware of their power. when she and ned talk of the deserter he killed, he hopes he won't have to go with the nw to deal with mance rayder, but she has even more fear of that idea bc there are worse things beyond the wall than just wildlings. ned scoffs and says she's been listening to old nan too much, but she's right. we already know from the prologue that she's right! and here she is, understanding the genre of their world better than her husband, who was actually born and spent his earliest years in this northern land of deep magic, listening to old nan's stories. same with the direwolves, where she was uncomfortable with them at first, but later believed in them as guardians from the old gods even after robb had lost his own faith. and once again, we know she's right even if she doesn't know the evidence to back up her instincts, bc summer and shaggydog did not fail bran and rickon and robb was almost certainly a warg like his brothers. (perhaps making it more fitting that she's the one brought back as a fantasy vengeance monster, not ned and robb, the most unbelieving dead starks.) and in her 2nd agot chapter, everyone focuses on her ambition in wanting ned to agree to the hand job (pun intended) and sansa's betrothal, and while she does recognize the value of their daughter being a future queen more than ned does, that's only her stated argument bc she thinks it's rational enough for ned to listen to. (if ambitious matchmaking were as important to her as to her father she never would have made those frey betrothals fandom loves to blame her for.) in her own head there's a deeper urge driving her. she keeps thinking of the dead direwolf with antlers in its throat, an omen which filled her with dread from the first she heard of it, before robert's arrival, and thinking of it again is what makes her desperate to convince ned not to refuse robert. she had to make him see. and really, she's not wrong, as jon snow would say. the dead direwolf was an omen of ned and robert getting each other killed. it's just one of those misread portents, with no way of knowing the danger to ned was in his loyalty to robert, not conflict with him. BUT the next time she's dealing with baratheons, she knows exactly what she's talking about. it's catelyn, not brienne, who sees the shadow slaying renly, and explains that it was stannis who did that through some dark magic. with no way of knowing how it was achieved and no prior expectation that such a thing were ever possible, she realizes with no hestitation that stannis was guilty and that his red witch was capable of pulling this off somehow. really, the only instinct of the supernatural she's wholly wrong about is her insistence that varys gathered his knowledge through some dark enchantment. however, though that might offend varys, given his own personal experience with a sorcerer, i'd say it's a reasonable assumption without knowing the dude had children moving through walls everywhere like oversized rodents. and imo it just shows she had a healthy respect and awe for varys's power which most other characters lack.
oh, oh, and let's not forget that she also believed in the curse of harrenhal, from her own childhood and the stories old nan told her kids. "and every house that held Harrenhal since had come to misfortune. Strong it might be, but it was a dark place, and cursed. 'I would not have Robb fight a battle in the shadow of that keep,' Catelyn admitted." sure, that wasn't enough to save robb, but he did not die from the curse of harrenhal. that doom was meant for his enemies from tywin lannister to roose bolton.

Paste magazine has done an article about Michael and how underrated he is in Good Omens and I found a transcript since it's behind a paywall. Here's the link if anyone wants to subscribe. 💙
https://www.pastemagazine.com/tv/amazon-prime-video/good-omens-michael-sheen-underrated-performance-explained-streaming
There’s so much to love about Prime Video’s Good Omens. A delightful adaptation of the popular Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett novel of the same name, the series is romantic, thoughtful, hilarious, and heartfelt by turns. The story of the almost-apocalypse and what comes afterward, it wrestles with big concepts like destiny, free will, and forgiveness, all framed through the lens of an unorthodox relationship between an angel and a demon whose love for one another is a key to saving the world.
As anyone who has watched Good Omens already knows, nothing about this series works without the pair of lead performances at its center. Stars David Tennant and Michael Sheen—who play the demon Crowley and the angel Aziraphale, respectively—have the kind of lighting-in-a-bottle chemistry that’s the stuff of legend, and their characters’ every interaction conveys both their deep affection for one another and the Earth they’ve made their home. Their romance is the emotional linchpin around which most of the series turns, and their heartbreaking separation in the Season 2 finale is so devastating precisely because we’ve seen how necessary the two are to each other’s lives.
But it’s Sheen’s performance in that final scene that really twists the knife. As Aziraphale’s face crumples following his and Crowley’s long-awaited kiss, the actor manages to convey what feels like every possible human emotion in the span of less than thirty seconds as the angel realizes what he has both had and just lost. The moment is emotionally brutal to watch, particularly after sitting through five and a half episodes of Aziraphale looking as lovestruck as the lead in any rom-com. Sheen makes it all look effortless, shifting from giddy joy to devastated longing and everything in between, and we really don’t talk enough about how powerful and underrated his work in this series truly is.
Though he’s half of the central duo that makes Good Omens tick, Sheen’s role often tends to get overshadowed by his co-star’s. It’s not difficult to see why, given that Tennant gets to spend most of the show swanning around in tight trousers looking like the Platonic ideal of the charming bad boy, complete with flaming red hair and dramatic eyewear. Tennant also benefits from Crowley’s much more sympathetic emotional arc. I mean, it’s hard not to love a cynical demon with a heart of gold who’s been pining after his angelic best friend for literal millennia even after being cast out from Heaven. Of course, viewers are drawn to that—likely a lot more easily than the story of an angel who’s simply trying the best he can to do the right thing as he wrestles with his role in God’s Ineffable Plan. Plus, let’s be real, Tennant’s sizeable Doctor Who fanbase certainly doesn’t hurt his character’s popularity.
As a performer, Sheen has a long history of playing both real people (Tony Blair, David Frost, Brian Clough) and offbeat villains (Prodigal Son’s Martin Whitly, Underworld’s Lucian, the Twilight Saga’s Aro). In some ways, the role of a fussy, bookish angel is playing more than a bit against type for him—Gaiman himself has said he originally intended for Sheen to be Crowley—but in his capable hands, Aziraphale becomes something much more than a simple avatar for the forces of Good (or even of God, for that matter). With a soft demeanor and a positively blinding smile, Sheen’s take on the character consistently radiates warmth and goodness, even as it contains surprisingly hidden depths. The former guardian of the Eastern Gate of Eden who gifted a fleeing Adam and Eve his flaming sword and befriended the Serpent who caused their Fall, Azirphale isn’t a particularly conventional angel. He enjoys all-too-human indulgences like food and wine, runs a Hoarders-esque bookshop that never seems to sell anything, and spends most of his time making heart eyes at the being that’s meant to be his hereditary adversary.
Given the much more difficult task of playing the literal angel to Tennant’s charming devil, Sheen must find a way to make ideas like goodness and forgiveness as interesting and fun to watch as their darker counterparts. It’s a generally thankless task, but one that Sheen tackles with gusto, particularly in the series’ second season, as Good Omens explores Aziraphale’s slowly evolving idea of what he can and cannot accept in terms of being a soldier of Heaven. His growing understanding that the truth of creation is colored in shades of grey and compromise is often conveyed through little more than Sheen’s deftly shifting expressions and body language.
Our pop culture consistently struggles to portray the idea of goodness as something compelling or worth watching. Explicitly “good” characters, particularly those who are religiously coded, are frequently treated as the butt of some sort of unspoken joke they aren’t in on, used to underline the idea that faith is a form of naivety or that kindness is somehow a weakness. For a lot of people, the entire concept of turning the other cheek is a sucker’s bet, and believing in something greater than oneself, be it a higher power or a sense of purpose, is a waste of time. But Good Omens is a story grounded in the idea that faith, hope, and love—for one another, God, and the entire world—are active verbs. And nowhere is that more apparent than in Sheen’s characterization of the soft angel whose old-fashioned waistcoats mask a spine of steel and who refuses to give up—on Crowley, on humanity, or on the idea that Heaven is still something that can be saved.
Though he and Tennant have pretty much become a matched set at this point (both on and off-screen), Sheen’s performance has rarely gotten the critical accolades it deserves. (Tennant alone was nominated for a BAFTA for Season 2, and Sheen was categorized as a supporting actor when the series’ competed in the 2019 Saturn Awards.) But it is his quiet strength that holds up so much of the rest of the show around him, and Sheen deserves to be more frequently recognized for it. That he makes it look so easy is just another sign of how good his performance really is.

I love this so much. The thoroughly well-deserved praise for Michael's incredible performance as Aziraphale, but also that Aziraphale and Crowley's relationship is specifically described as a "romance." And of course, the first sentence of the last paragraph that acknowledges how much Michael and David are indeed a "matched set" that cannot (and should not) be separated...

My list of Adam ships♡ n my opinion bout them (also fics rec :D)
Adam x Luicfer (Adamsapple/Duitarduck) 10/10
Tumblr media
Need i say more:)))??!?! started out as a "haha funny slip-up ship" to "hey they got really good angst potential". The friends/lovers to enemies to lovers is STRONG with this one n i am eating up everything i could found on ao3. Smth bout this macho-ass man finally getting to stay back n not take charge for once feel nice, also princess Adam supermacy wooooo. Whoever came up with the ship name i applaud u cause that's like a 3 layers name(ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
It's not an Adamsapple fic without Adam having at least 1 mental breakdown n Lucifer have his guilt eating him alive:)))
Very fucked up torture but i swear it worth the pain:D The dove is so dead it start to rot so plz read the tags properly (plz check out the AngeliaDark other works too they got good shit)
This one have a splits so check out both the fics (beware the author have a skrewed sense of what is considered wholesome:))))
I didnt think a smut scene could be this sad
Adam x Lute (Guitarspear/Guardrock) 10/10
Tumblr media
Litteraly my first Hazbin ship, assholes in love is an underrated dynamic we desperately need more off:))) That with a dash of evil dude x loyal subordinate (which i havent seen since the Deathglare days) n opposite attract (look they have one main thing in common is that their extreme bloodthirst, other than that she's stricter than ur mom n he's lazier than the Sloth ring itself but that the beauty of it no? He convince her to chill tf out n not to burst a blood vessel, she keep him on track n make sure Sera dont come on their asses)
They're just being silly enabling each other terrible behaviour n i love that for them (´▽`ʃ♡ƪ) Litteral besties i tell ya
Heavy non-con shit involving Val but Lute will revenge our boi i promised u that
Cool idea n they r just made for each other damn
First hazbin fic i read which is a really cool smut:D
Adam x Micheal (we need a ship name people ) (update: it's Songbird/Guitarhero) 10/10
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I like how we dont even got a proper comfirmation of Micheal design/personality yet the ship is here already ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ( im using the Nakariiale's design as a base here love their design)
Hit me with that rebound love x "u look like my ex so im using u as a replacement but ill fall for the real u eventually" x co-workers in heaven. I'm thinking smth along the line of "after Lucifer fucked off with Lilith, Micheal became Adam guardian angel n they just hang out" ya feel me here? (✿◕‿◕✿)
Shout out to Bloog_b for dragging me into this ship:DDD also im on the Adam x the archangels ship as a "gotcha" to Lucifer of sort. Like bitch u stole my wives imma steal your brotherS
Look it's Adamsapple endgame but trust me u will be feed well on this ( u know how good u gotta be for people to ditch the main ship?)
I'm giving yall 4 fics here cause i can only found 4 rn(._. )
this one is uhh non-con so beware
Micheal is indeed Adam guardian angel in this one:D
Adam x Eve (Flowertunes) 8/10
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I dont care what yall said they love each other throughout Eden n Earth , might have a falling out in heaven but that doesnt change the fact that they were once IN LOVE. Honestly why cant we just have a couple that have the same bright-eyed innocence like one another.I refuse to believe Eve like willingly cheat on Adam with malicious intent n all, simply she was indeed ''tricked'' or just not fully understand the sistuation, n Adam love her way too much to think that she would do that to him like Lilith. Hell the dude was heartbroken after L left , starting the abandonment issues, so he would have cling to Eve, doing everything so that he aint alone again, even if that mean leaving Eden
Honestly it pisses me off that the Adam/Eve tag on ao3 most of the time is just 1 dialouge between them back when Eve bit the apple n thats it no elaboration on the couple whatsoever >:(((
Lots of switcharoos
sinner eve woooo
look its hard trynna find a fic focusing on them ok?
Adam x St. Peter (Guitargreeter (bet ya didnt see that coming:))) 7/10
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Base on this fanfic alone Joe my dude u r on the path of becoming THE Adam crack-ship writer n i am here for this:)))) just so u wait this dude gonna whip out a AdamxNifty , AdamxHusk fic later on ( •̀ ω •́ )✧
From within the fic itself the ship its 2 bros in love with homophobia standing in the way >:( also when did we have a name?!?!?!?
I just like Adam x anyone in heaven alright:D like bro famous n he got that ancient rizz, u telling mr he cant bag a hottie or 2-100+ hmm?
Adam x Alastor (Angelicradio) 8/10
Tumblr media
I DONT EVEN KNOW WHAT ABOUT THEM THAT I SHIP I JUST DO φ(゜▽゜*)♪ i blame YOU honestly rn this ship is either Adam found Al after the fight n they make a deal or they're in heaven n they chillin this ship is confusing:D
They're angels on heaven
Adam gone back into eden n do shit differently
This is both Adam/Eve n Adam/Alastor kinda
Adam x Alastor x Lucifer (Angelicradioapple/ Charlie's dads (only me call them that lol)) 9/10
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
''Hey Charlie u know how u r sad that your mother left? Wellllllll i got you 2 new dads suprise:DDDD''
Look 3 miserable men who hate each other + hell's greatest dad + my love for Dadam = Messy ass old men yaoi :DDDD n it work perfectly with Alastor Asexuality too!!! Like Adam n Lucifer could fuck each other brains out before Al joining in for the cuddles lol
Chaos ensue
Not exactly a love triangle but a love corner but hey we barely got food here :D
I cant believe how hot this shit is lol
Adam x Eve x Lilith x Lucifer (Eden poly/ applecore?) 8/10
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They could have been all married to each other(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ But as much as i go "OooOooo Poly yay'' i just cant vibe with EvexLucifer, like the cheating vibes is wayyyyyyyyy too much i just cant man . I mean with the interpetation that Lucifer came to Eden to hang out with the humans they all know eachother, they're a throuple yes but BUT when Eve came into the picture it was only with Adam n him only so the other 2 is ehhhh. Im fine with EvexLilith cause im seeing it happening later, not hidden from Adam while LuciferxEve got that deception going on .So uhhh in this ship they're more like bestie than lovers to me¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Also AdamxLilith is an underrated pairing like everytime i saw this applecore thing going on these 2 r at most tolerate each other like cmonnnnn we already twist this to hell n back, why cant we make it so their arguement was a petty non-malicious one n they still cares for each other hmm???
They're one happy family
IDK what to tell u bittersweet reunion n loving family is the only typa fic u get with this ship
Not that im complaining i need this wholesomeness
Adam x Mammon (Adammon/Madam/Greedyguitar/ 1st chirstmas.... hasnt had an offical name yet) 10/10
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They r litteraly same person different font idk what to tell u. More insults thrown around than Guitarspear but they're pretty similar. Adam is just " sinners suck ass but this dude is the worst in the best way". Also they're both big bois (๑•̀ㅂ•́)و✧ , they love towering over others
I'm sorry but there r barely BARELY
any fics of them :(
The art side is more plentiful tho :D
Adam x Angel Dust (Holydust/guitardust) 5/10
Tumblr media Tumblr media
THEY ARE BESTIES YOUR HONOUR n that the exact reason why i cant see them be together as a couple 100%, like the shit-talking bff vibes r wayyyy too strong XD Angel finally got someone who have the same vulgar humour as him n if Adam got married in hell Angel would 100% be his best bitch of honour (≧∀≦)ゞq(≧▽≦q)
They're best friends who have casual no-string attached sex that is ACTUALLY no-string attached:)))
I came to ship them due to those "What if they're co-workers under Val' scenarios ive been seeing on Tumblr
I got like 1 fic on ao3 i mean if u r looking for just platonic friendship between them then rest asure most Adam's redemption fics have that
I got 1 fic on tumblr
Adam x Charlie (Charadam/Guitarprincess) 5/10
Tumblr media Tumblr media
U know this ship give me a pretty bad first impression since a good chunk of the fics r either heavy non-con shit or lean wayyyyy to much into the daddy kink, ya know how Charlie got suppose daddy issues n all that jazz?:))) yeah that... that
But after seeing the art side of this ship im chillin with them now, since the art r pretty wholesome, usually having them decked out in punk-rock clothings hanging out. It's a big "Fuck you" to Lucifer n i live for these mf argueing ╰(*°▽°*)╯
So uhhh stay away from the fics if ya want an actual functional couple instead of wtv messed up shit we got there:))) But here's a fic anyway, the only one where it feel bearable n actual trynna go into said messed up relationship i already warn you
We got cracks like Guitarmaid (AdamxNifty), Valadam (AdamxVal) which i dont have enough materials to decied, Classicalrock (AdamxSera) sound interesting but also havent found anything , Guitarhalo (AdamxEmily) is an unexpected find, find i deem them to be more familial than romantic so we'll see if there's a fic good enough to convince me
Edit:i forgot to add Blitzo like Mammon already there why did i forgot
Adam x Blitzo (i dont think anyone even ship this but me:)) 7/10
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I cant find a single fic where they has anything more than a 1 nightstand n 1 interaction where they hit it off , i live off imagination alone (;´༎ຶД༎ຶ`) but like fr fr they would match so well, like their bloodlust n general jerkiness would make them the 3rd asshole x asshole ship on this list :DDDD
Tho as much as i wanna see them go further i feel like an on-n-off relationship/friends with benefits fit em more ya know ( *^-^)ρ(*╯^╰) If ya have any fic but the 2 here that have them interact lemme know cause a bitch need food :)
This is a lot of tag(._. )

What are your fav bookmarked fics? I'm in the same spot rn and I need recommendations 🥲
omg i love love love giving fic recs because a very good portion of the fics ive read are so incredible i must share the love around !!!
i realise you maybe did not ask for this whole spiel and so many fics but you ask and i shall deliver :3 i tried tagging as many authors whose tumblrs im aware of, so you guys can go send them some love, but there's a couple that im not sure have accounts here :(
also: here i have already made a prev post recommending two drag queen josh fics that i very much adore, which you can find over here
some of my all time favs are:
suraj hua maddham, chaand jalne laga by @thatbluelight here on tumblr
i will never stop recomending this sorely underrated fic, i just adore it so much !! its a dark comedy guardian angel au (with a backdrop of bdsm - check the tags for more info on that) and will make you cry and laugh all at once :) its really great in its portrayal of a non-linear recovery, and quite inspiring with a soft and happy ending
Surrounded, Hounded by @bbluejoseph
this one is a wip, but is being regularly updated still !! this is one of my favvv fics ever even though its incomplete, and ive been intently keeping up ! this one is a werewolf/human experimentation au, and its got this isolated forest wintry vibe to it, but a tender discovery of the self and love :)
Wild Geese by @vialism
actually one of the first joshler fics i ever read and an amazing intro to the bandom, tackling conversion therapy and teenage romance :))
The Seventy-Third Hour by @edyluewho
all of edy's works are so atmospheric and immersive, every single one is amazing!! most of their fics have this dark undertone that is more often than not tied to a happy and soft ending (this fic is one of those) which i really enjoy! this one is inspired by the choker mv (ily choker), and deals with trans love, and tentative recovery (check the tags, as some topics mayy be triggering for some)
Drumstick by @marasamoon
this one is just as moody and atmospheric as some of edy's works, and this one is a vampire au!! this also deals with some pretty heavy themes, but the ending is joyful!!
Light a Match a series by an account now orphaned
absolute classic, a tale as old as time song as old as rhyme !! what can i say this superhero au is just a classic and i will eat it up every time
Felt it in my youth by an account now orphaned
fake dating galore!!! lowkey enemies to lovers!! fluff and angst and all that fun stuff!!
Woodwork by wavingrass
based on the craving mv ! this is a painter tyler x woodworker josh au, where josh is deaf and tyler deals with chronic pain :) its a soft story with some classic angst along the way but its just so soft
Boy, You're My Lucky Star by somepersonWithInternet
ALIEN JOSH ALIEN JOSH ALIEN JOSH !!! this one is also a wip, but being steadily updated as well :) its by @two_seerain on twitter, and its so fluffy and so sweet like tooth-rottingly sweet i love it
happy reading !!

The fic for This Poll's winner of Killer's underrated ships is now out! The word count this time ended up at 3409. More than double compared to last time. I have issues.
Summary:
In the end, the lost lackey wasn’t hard to find. He was sitting at the bottom of one of the shallower craters, head firmly pressed against his knees. His arms were wrapped tightly around his skull, pushing it down even further. He was wound up so tight that his knees must have been digging into his eye socket. Didn’t that hurt? That couldn’t be comfortable…
With an ounce of concern for the murderer left stranded in his AU now mixed in with the apprehension for everyone else’s safety, Outer slowly approached him.
“Heya pal” he greeted, still a good distance away. He was ready to dodge and fight if needed, but the main reason why he spoke up so early was to avoid spooking the guy. He already looked tense enough as was, and Outer was trying his best not to be a dick.
Despite his best efforts, Goopy Sockets still sprung up, knife in hand, and teeth twisted into a snarl. Outer was almost surprised he wasn’t growling at him.
He went to raise his hands placatingly, but the guy immediately lunged forward.
---
Outer finds Killer after he's been abandoned in Outertale by Nightmare. Will he gain a new pal, or will he end up as a pile of dust?
The fic will be under the cut for anyone that wants to read it here instead of on AO3.
Living in Outertale, it wasn’t rare to see Outcodes around.
Error was the most frequent visitor. He usually sat at the edge of one of the big craters way out of town. He stayed there for hours, quietly watching the stars. The inhabitants of Starredin had learned to just leave him be, lest they incur his wrath. The only one allowed to approach was the Starcream Vendor, as the Destroyer seemed to have quite the sweet tooth.
Others came by as well, albeit less frequently. There was that artist dude that sometimes passed by. Mostly to annoy the Destroyer. Then there was that skeleton in a Grim Reaper outfit who popped in now and then. Again, mostly to annoy Error. Outer had no idea why so many Outcodes were Hellbent on getting tied up and left trapped on a random moon. Especially because none of the inhabitants of Starredin were ever willing to help them after they'd bothered their temperamental guardian. And the folks from Meteorfalls and Nebuland rarely ventured that far. Not to speak about the New Home residents, they were so accustomed to their fully functional artificial gravity system that they never left the safety of the capital to explore the outer edges of their world.
All this is to say, nobody was ever too shocked when new faces dropped by. However, Nightmare was still one of the most unpleasant visitors they got in a while.
He arrived, threw some vague threats around, and proclaimed himself the new King of their world, only for Error to come in, grab him with his strings and throw him and most of his henchmen through one of his glitchy portals, hopefully never to be seen again.
What an irritating and yet mostly unremarkable guy.
He should have known better than to mess with the unofficial protector of their home.
Most of the commotion was over in around an hour, and all the people of Starredin were already returning to their regular business. Outer, however, had noticed that, of the three henchmen that followed Nightmare through his goopy portal, only two had been thrown out with him. As a matter of fact, he wasn’t sure of where the one without eye lights had been during any of the speeches either.
It wasn’t really his business, he was merely a sentry, not a Royal Guard, but all of the attackers had high LV (he'd spotted that as soon as they'd come through. That was why he'd alerted Undyne to the attack in the first place instead of trying to handle it all himself), so there was no doubt that the guy was just as dangerous as the others had been. And there were a lot of kids and young teens that played in the craters around Starredin. They were all easy pickings if the guy wanted to get his EXP fix, and Outer wasn’t going to allow that.
He could have called in Undyne for backup again, of course, but he didn’t wanna bother her unless he had to. She was already busy helping around town with whatever damage Nightmare and his merry band of goons had caused. Well, she was trying to help. Just like Papy was trying to encourage everyone with promises of his Moon famous Galaxy Noodles (they were normal noodles with some edible sprinkles in them). Whether either of them was succeeding was… questionable at best.
They were still the coolest for trying though!
Hands in his pockets, Outer ventured into the Starredin’s Crater Forest on his own.
He spotted Snowdrake, Chilldrake, and Ice Cap practicing some ice puns not too far from the protective bubble of the town. Any other day, he would have stopped by to listen to a couple of jokes, laugh, and give them some pointers, but knowing who was out there, he just decided to gently encourage them to head back home. Snowdrake seemed particularly disappointed at that, but Outer knew he’d have it on his conscience forever if his dad lost yet another family member.
Besides, Papy would have been greatly disappointed in him if he hadn’t given the new guy at least a chance. And, yes, he would end up finding out about it. Outer could never keep any secrets from his brother, he promised he never would again after that incident with the Core. After all, had his brother not been so clever back then to see through his intricate web of lies, he would have ended up just like Gaster and all his other assistants: scattered through time and space and forgotten.
He still shuddered just thinking about it.
Despite his best efforts, Goopy Sockets still sprung up, knife in hand, and teeth twisted into a snarl. Outer was almost surprised he wasn’t growling at him.
He went to raise his hands placatingly, but the guy immediately lunged forward. His already weirdly prominent soul was twisting erratically, and the same tar-like substance falling from his eye sockets was now dripping from it. It smelled foul. Like something long dead mixed in with that sickly sweet scent of rotten fruit.
If Outer had a stomach, he would have been retching.
Thankfully, he’d been prepared for the attack. He easily dodged the first three swipes, then turned the guy’s soul blue and forced him to the ground. To his utter horror, his body still pushed itself up, detaching itself from its soul with a wet squelching sound. It was as if they were separate entities entirely.
“Woah, pal, that cannot be healthy” he joked with a nervous little laugh.
Maybe he should have brought Undyne after all. This was not an enemy he was equipped to handle on his own.
Papyrus’ face flashed in his mind as he avoided yet another stab of that damned knife. He could hear his little brother reminding him that life could be amazing if he just greeted it with open arms. If he kept up the fight he’d just end up tiring himself out and getting himself killed. The other had a determination soul that looked almost human, even if he managed to down him once there was no certainty that he’d stay down. So maybe… maybe his brother’s method was worth a shot.
After all, if he really had just scared the other and sent him into a panicked frenzy, maybe seeing that he wasn’t a threat would calm him down?
Yeah, he was grasping at straws…
Regardless, he dodged one last time, quickly teleporting to the other side of the crater, then he shut his eye sockets, letting all his magic attacks rest, and raised a hand, waiting.
Time stretched on infinitely.
He could feel his soul thumping loudly in his ribcage. He could feel sweat cascading down the sides of his skull. All the fluff of his jacket was now wet and heavy because of it. If he ever got home, he definitely had to change before Papy could see him, or the admonishments regarding his already poor health being yet again endangered by his reckless walks through the cold forest would be never-ending.
He heard the other circle him cautiously. At first Outer thought that he must have been preparing to deliver his final blow, but he was pleasantly surprised when smooth bone pressed against his hand instead. He peered an eye open to find the adorable sight of what he’d previously assumed to be an unstoppable murderous beast rubbing his cheek against his hand like a kitten. It was kind of adorable…
Not what he was supposed to be thinking right after having a close call with death, but, oh well!
“Can we chat now?” he asked in a low whisper, not wanting to break the magic of the moment, but also not knowing how much longer he’d be able to keep his arm up for. His brother was right, he needed to do more cardio. However, Outer was still of the opinion that Papy’s and Undyne’s training regimen was insane.
The other studied him again for a long moment, before slowly nodding.
Outer decided to start with an apology: “I’m sorry for scaring you earlier, I really wasn’t trying to”.
It worked, clearly, as the other relaxed a bit more. Though his soul was still moving erratically and dripping that weird substance. At least it lost that putrid smell. It now mostly stunk of smoke and wet sand. Still unpleasant, but nowhere near earlier.
Outer was surprised when the stranger responded: “Sorry I tried to kill you”. His tone and inflection mirrored Outer’s perfectly. It sounded like he had to strain himself to speak. Either he didn’t get many occasions to use his voice or his magic was damaged in some way. Seeing what an obnoxious self-centered and violent prick his boss was, Outer wouldn’t have been surprised by either answer.
“As long as you don’t do it again, it’s alright pal” he reassured. The other didn’t promise anything. He didn’t respond in any way to that comment, in fact. Outer was sure he knew that he was supposed to. He didn’t look like he had too many social interactions. “So… what can I call you? Calling you ‘Stranger’ and ‘Nightmare’s Henchman’ in my head is getting tiring”.
It took a while for the other to react, yet again.
For a moment, it seemed as if he was struggling to remember his name. His face got all scrunched up, and he glared down at his soul as if it was keeping the answer hidden from him. He was a tad bit odd, but not in a bad way as far as Outer could tell.
He was just a bit lost.
And who wasn’t, honestly?
Space was a vast expanse with lots of questions and very few answers. Perhaps that was why so many Outcodes insisted on coming by. They were all adrift. Maybe they hoped the answers they sought were written somewhere on the stars that were so visible from there. But the void was deceitful, it kept luring them in only to leave them stranded.
Maybe Outer could guide this one visitor to safer shores. Far away from there.
“Stage 3” the other finally piped up after a couple of minutes of silence. “I’m called Stage 3. But the body goes by Killer”. He raised his empty eye sockets and locked them on Outer’s. “I protect Killer” he said solemnly. That was his purpose, and he was as sure of it as Outer was that the sun would rise the next day to see his brother make more Galaxy Noodles.
“Well, you’re definitely doing a good job of that. If I were a type of bread back then, I would have been toast”. His joke did not garner the response he was hoping for. Stage 3 didn’t even blink at him. He just sat down and got to work cleaning his knife in silence.
Tough crowd.
He didn’t stab him though, so he must have found the joke amusing to some extent. That was the same kind of reasoning he used at the comedy nights at Mettaton’s resort when a joke didn’t land during his comedy routine, and it hadn’t failed him yet!
A couple of beats of complete silence went by. Outer used the lull in conversation to find a comfortable position next to Stage 3. He ended up lying down beside him, staring up at the Milky Way above. Eventually, however, he started growing restless with the silence.
He never liked it much, ever since he was a child. That was one of the reasons why he always hung out with his brother, besides Papy being the coolest, he never failed to fill the air with loud chatter. He liked Undyne and the woman behind the entrance to the Caverns for the same reason. It was easy to drown out the deafening silence of space when he was with them.
“Right… well, why were you all panicked earlier? When I found you?” he ended up asking once he grew too antsy to keep his mouth shut.
“They do not like the stars” Stage 3 answered cryptically.
“Who’s they?”.
“Killer”.
“Right”. Talking with him was kinda like pulling teeth. Then again, he was under the impression that the other wasn’t used to keeping a conversation going, or even talking in general. Maybe this would be good practice for both of them. “Why don’t they like the stars?”.
Stage 3’s movements stilled and a growl escaped his teeth. For a moment, Outer feared he must have stepped too far, but it wasn’t hard to see that the other’s anger wasn’t directed at him. “Chara” they spit out between gritted teeth.
Outer decided not to interrogate him further on what Asgore’s dead adopted child had to do with anything. He had a feeling that it would only distress Stage 3 further, and he wasn’t up to running for his life again so soon. His bones were already starting to feel sore from all the consecutive shortcuts he took. Meanwhile, his new friend still looked as fresh as the air outside the city bubbles.
He couldn’t just leave him looking so upset, though. Especially not when he was the indirect cause of it. “Do you want a hug?” he asked tentatively.
He’d never been good at comforting people. It wasn’t his forte. His brother had always been the more emotionally intelligent one. He kinda wished he was there to help. Although a small part of him selfishly wanted to keep this encounter for himself. It felt special, somehow. Like he’d finally accomplished something.
He got someone to trust him. And he did it all on his own.
It wasn’t much, but it was worth a lot to him.
A little part of him was also hoping to see Stage 3’s cute side again with the hug, and that was the kind of vulnerability that he was sure the other didn’t allow too many people to see. He didn’t know if he’d been chosen because he was just too pathetic to register as any kind of threat, or because the other also viewed kindness and mercy as strength, but he felt special for being among those lucky few.
Stage 3 looked at him, again without responding in any way.
Outer didn’t move, waiting patiently in case he just needed some time.
After a while, Stage 3’s skull tilted to the side in confusion. “Why aren’t you approaching? I’ve learned that’s a crucial part of hugging”. His inflection on those words was weird. As if he was once again imitating someone else. Probably whatever friend had taught him that physical proximity was part of hugging.
Outer was one hundred percent sure that hadn’t been that Nightmare guy. And, from what little he’d seen of the other two guys working for him, he doubted it had been one of them either. The realization that he was not the first person the other befriended outside of his team came as a surprise.
Not because of Stage 3, he was perfectly lovable. And, while Outer didn’t get to meet ‘Killer’, he was sure that they were great too.
No, it was mostly because of Nightmare. With him proclaiming himself King of their AU and flexing his power with the desperation of a neglected child acting out for attention, he just didn’t get the impression that he’d be willing to share. Then again, if he often forgot his henchmen around perhaps he didn’t do so willingly.
“You gotta agree to it first, pal. Consent is always sexy”. Outer winked at him, a bit teasingly.
Was he flirting now? With an alternate version of himself? Maybe. But far more absurd things had happened in his life, and he was not going to question it. If things went badly he’d just deny it ever happened and suppress any embarrassment that was bound to come out of it until he died one day.
Some people would call it an unhealthy coping mechanism, but, as far as Outer was concerned, it was a life hack.
“Consent?” Stage 3 asked, now even more confused.
“Yeah, you know. That’s when you express that you want something. If I offer a hug you can say yes if you’re feeling like it or no if you aren’t. And it’s important to communicate that, especially ‘cause we don’t know each other well. If we were close friends, I’d probably be able to tell what your mood is better. But right now, if I just went ahead and hugged you without your say-so, I’d be kind of a creep. And I don’t wanna-” he knew he’d started rambling quite a bit. He always did when he started getting flustered. That was how he blew his date with Grillby that one time as well. The only one who didn’t mind it was that bunny lady, but she unfortunately was not his type.
His mouth clicked shut as Stage 3’s arms wrapped tightly around him.
He felt so warm…
Skeletons usually didn’t emit any heat. They weren’t fleshy monsters, nor elementals. They didn’t have their own body temperature, they just reflected that of the space around them.
But Stage 3 was undeniably warm. The heat started from his soul and spread throughout him.
His jacket, while old and worn out, was also still soft. Outer felt himself sink into it. It smelled nice too. Like a light breeze on a sunny day. It carried along the faint smell of flowers and nature. Perhaps with just a touch of fire and smoke too.
He wished that moment lasted forever, but, of course, Stage 3 eventually let go.
“You talk a lot and fight very little” Stage 3 remarked. His phalanges were now hovering only an inch above Outer’s hand. “You’re weird” he decided after a moment. “But not dangerous. I don’t mind your company. Or your hugs”.
Outer smiled as brightly as the starry sky above. “Heh, I also don’t mind your company and your hugs. And maybe now you can think of me instead of that Chara person when looking at the stars, ey?”.
“Don’t push it too much” Stage 3 warned. There was no bite to his words though, so Outer could tell that it was a ‘not yet’ and not a ‘never’
“Gotcha”. He stretched, making sure to leave the hand that was close to Stage 3’s one where it was as he did so. “Now that you’re a bit calmer, wanna go into town and maybe get a bite to eat? ‘Cause I don’t know you, but our little scuffle got me starving”.
Stage 3 studied him for a long moment in silence. He was starting to get used to that. He still wasn’t sure that the other knew that questions were meant to be answered. Though he didn’t mind waiting for him to figure it out. “You’re frail” he finally decided to respond. It was true, everyone always remarked as much. It was the reason why he learned to dodge in the first place. And it was the reason why Papy was always a bit more protective than needed toward him. However, he could take care of himself, and he was about to tell as much to the other when he spoke up again: “I will just have to protect you too. Like Killer”. It was said like an oath. Like the mere idea of not doing so would go against Stage 3’s purpose just as much as not defending ‘the body’ did.
And Outer once again felt special.
His smile widened yet again, and he nodded. “Guess you will”.

Groot’s many backstories
Tumblr media
So earlier I saw this post by @alastorgould where he over some of the many versions of Rocket’s backstories, eventually writing his own take on it that combined elements of all of them. It’s a pretty good summary of Rocket’s past and it’s many incarnations in the comics, cartoons and MCU etc and I highly recommend you check it out along with his rocket and halfworld related art/fics.
Anyway, It inspired to make my own post going over some of the backstories/incarnations of my personal favourite gotg character: Groot. Because A) as mentioned, he’s my fave, and imo one of the more underrated Guardians members out of the core 5, and B) Groot actually has quite a few takes on his backstory already through not only multiple retcons in the 616 comics continuity but also through several multi-media adaptations of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. And I thought it would be fun to share some of them with you all.
Obviously, this isn’t gonna cover every single piece of media Groot has been in/has had his backstory mentioned etc. But I did my research and tried my best to cover a good chunk of the most notable continuities and adaptations.
Also, I haven’t read the entirety of every comic Groot is in ever (I.E. the latest gotg Grootfall/Grootrise story arc) so forgive me if I get a few details wrong. If there are any die hard gotg/Groot comic readers out there, feel free to politely and respectfully correct me on a few things.
The Comics
In the main marvel 616 comics there have been at least 3 different versions of Groot’s backstory and origins. 4 if you count his very first incarnation…
Tales to astonish #13 (+ other King Groot appearances)
Tumblr media
King Groot is the giant tree like ruler of Planet-X, and an alien invader who lands on earth to kidnap the humans from a small town in order to take them back to his home planet and experiment on them. Conventional weapons used by the towns military don’t work as this groot is immune to fire and explosives. But thanks to the quick thinking of protagonist human scientist Leslie Evens, king groot is taken down by genetically bred super termites. He seemingly dies in this story but later makes appearances in comics like the Howling Commandos, aiding the team. Most commonly being seen as an inhabitant of Monster Isle. There was a time where it was thought the groot on the guardians of the galaxy was the same groot as king groot (mainly the annihilation: conquest series), but this was later retconned as a different Groot impersonating King Groot. Which brings us to…
Guardians of the Galaxy #14 (2013)/Annihilators #1 and 2 (2012)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Groot was a flora colossus sapling who along with his fellow saplings (also all called groot) were looked after by a group of elder flora colossus called the Arbor Masters. This groot was different from the others as he often brefirended the maintenance mammals; small intelligent mammal like beings who most other flora colossus looked down on as inferior. One day, another group of flora colossai were bulling a squirrel-like maintenance mammal and groot steps in to defend it. After one of the more violent flora colossus nearly kills the mammal, groot snaps and tears the other colossus apart. Presumably killing him. This catches the attention of the Arbor masters, who then have groot banished from the planet via a space ship.
This groot would later go on to impersonate king Groot and join the team that would become the Guardians of the galaxy, in Annihilation Conquest: Starlord #1, where he’d first meet his teammate and future bff Rocket Raccoon. The way he was written in annihilation conquest made it seem like he was the same character as King Groot, but this was later retconned in Annihilators #1 and 2 as well as Guardians of the Galaxy #14.
Groot vol.1 (2015)
Tumblr media
My personal favourite comic origin for groot. (Also literally the best version of Groot in any media ever dont @ me)
Groot is born on Planet X, where the flora colossus are towering giants who regularly kidnap beings from other planets to preform experiments on them. Groot is disturbed and appalled by the actions of his people but feels powerless to do anything… until one night where he discovers a little human girl, Hannah, being held prisoner in one of the holding pods and decides to help her escape.
After teleporting Hannah away back to Earth, Groot remains behind and destroys the teleportation pad, presumably cutting the flora colossus off from earth, and he is banished by his elders. Groot then wanders the universe for a while, taking in all its wonders and sights, before being thrown in a kree prison where he meets Rocket for the first time. Rocket can’t understand Groot at first, but over the course of months sharing a cell with him, does. After this the two form a fast friendship and break out of prison, becoming bounty hunters/criminals and eventually joining the Guardians.
Groot vol.2 (2023)
Tumblr media
One of the most recent and drastically different origins presented in the comics so far.
In this miniseries, Planet-X is a lush forest covered planet and the flora colossus, unlike the other comic origins, are a benevolent and peaceful race of sentient plants ruled over by a giant matriarch tree called Granopy. She looks after and tells stories to a child groot and his two friends Tweeg and Gleef.
One day their forest gets burnt by a gang of mercenaries known as The Spoilers, led by an evil Flora colossus named Agz, and the three get kidnapped. But are freed by a young Mar-vel. Together the four of them, along with an Alpha Centurion hunter called Yondar, fight against the Spoilers and save Planet X. As of writing this, the Grootfall/grootrise arc, which references this miniseries, has only just wrapped up. So It’s not clear if this story is supposed to be a prequel to the 2015 Groot origin or if it’s a full on retcon of it. (Im gonna assume the latter, given how different Flora Colossai are in this compared to the previous origins. Unless Flora Collossus society/planet X as a whole really went down hill after Groot grew up, somehow going from the peaceful forest utopia we see in vol. 2 to the desolate wasteland ruled by an evil king groot in tales to astonish/groot number 6 but I digress) so it’s up in the air for now if/how they connect to each-other…
Origins in other media
As a Marvel multi-media franchise, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and by extension Groot, have had a number of different adaptations and interpretations across various non-comic book mediums including movies, games, tv shows etc. so let’s take a look at four of the most famous ones.
MCU
Tumblr media
Weirdly enough, despite this version of Groot (and his son Groot ii aka baby groot) being the most widely known by general audiences thanks to the popularity of the MCU, MCU Groot is the most mysterious when it comes to his origin story. We never get any implications or mentions of it in the entire gotg franchise (outside of a mention of Planet X in the nova police lineup scene in vol.1). The closest we get is an idea James Gunn had planned for a short film about how Groot and Rocket met and a few very brief mentions about it in interviews. In the tweet about the short film idea, James explains Groot was caged up at an intergalactic zoo housing exotic alien creatures and was treated like an animal. Until a worker at the zoo, a robot/cyborg named Tibus Lark, became attached to Groot and helped him escape, becoming his closest friend. Until they found themselves in a hole/prison where Lark and groot would meet Rocket. Being mortally injured, Tibus would explain his and Groot’s story to Rocket before entrusting Groot with Rocket and dying. Rocket would then use the robotic parts of Lark’s body to build his big gun seen in the first gotg and break out of the pit with Groot. Beginning their criminal partnership and (dysfunctional) friendship.
Gotg Disney XD cartoon season 1
Tumblr media
In the Disney XD cartoon, Groot grew up on an idyllic and serene Planet X ruled by his father(?), both coming from a long line of flora colossus spanning billions of years who, along with all life on Planet X, all grew from an object known as the world pod. A source of power that exists within groot. Shortly after a day of battle training with his father, the Kree and their leader Ronan invade the planet to mine it of its resources. Dispute the protest of its natives, the planet is burnt to ashes, leaving groot the lone survivor. He’s then taken by the kree and experimented on, along with other kidnapped Earth animals. This is where he meets a newly anthro-ified Rocket, and the two break out together and eventually join the guardians.
Gotg Telltale Game
Like the MCU version, we unfortunately don’t get a look into his backstory, but what we do know from the alternate story path where Rocket stays with Quill and Groot goes with Mantis when the team break up is he is the last of his kind and empathises with mantis greatly because of it.
Gotg Eidos Game
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Through conversations with Groot (with Rocket, and later in the game Mantis, translating for Quill), and a few parts of rocket’s conversations, we learn that Groot’s father was the king of Taluhnia (the original native name of Planet X) as well as the other branch worlds. Groot himself wanted to be a forest caretaker so he could care for the plants of Taluhina. In contrast, his father and the arbor masters were corrupt and favoured the needs of the few over the many, and enslaved the sapient animals on Taluhnia. With some saplings even hurting these mammals for fun. Groot however, preferred thier company over the others of his kind due to how nice and smart they were, comparing them to rocket in his convo with Quill and Mantis.
Unfortunately, however, they along with the rest of Taluhnia, would perish after the Chitari would test an experimental doomsday device on the planet. After the planets destruction, the other branch worlds would mobilise an attack, but they were no match for the Chitari and were destroyed as well. Fortunately, groot was able to regrow himself into a smaller sapling form. Making him, as far as he knows, the only survivor. In his smaller form, he would eventually be sold to the collector, but would later be stolen by rocket who raided the whole place while drunk. It’s kind of a mix of the maintenance mammal stuff from the gotg issue 14 story and the general flora Collossus are corrupt stuff from that and groot issue 6, with the alien race wipe out the flora colossus part from the cartoon (though swapping out the Kree for the Chitari this time).
…And that’s it for the most famous Groot origins! Again, this doesn’t include every incarnation of Groot ever, but I think I covered my bases with the most notable continuities. Maybe I’ll have a go at writing my own take on the origin at some point, but for now, I just hope you all enjoyed learning about Groot’s different pasts as much as I did researching them…
Also let me know if there are other, more obscure versions of Groot and his backstory I missed here. I’m always down to learning more Groot lore.

ryne as the personification of the first
emet-selch goes on about how the source is the only shard that really matters, that the other shards are dimmer and of less value, that the shards are meant to be sacrificed for the sake of being rejoined to the source, blah blah blah (with the source and its current peoples eventually being de facto sacrificed to bring the ancient world back to an unsundered state) (all of this to foil hydaelyn, whose major aetherial aspect is light)
ryne is one in a century-long line of little girls who were valued only for their ability to channel the source's minfilia, being subsumed by her soul and then dying horribly in a neverending war against the light. minfilia explicitly compares herself to an ascian when explaining the situation to thancred (one of the most underrated bonkers lines in shb, imo)! the sacrifice of one person's individuality is worth the contribution to the larger crusade... but also because those with more power in the situation want the person THEY loved to return to them (see also: gaia).
but despite being told she's weak and would be better off giving in to her fate (either directly by ran'jit, or indirectly via neglect by thancred's bad parenting), ryne values the free, colorful, unique life she has lived and the love she has created with the people around her. even though all of it is difficult! even if it hurts! even if she has to struggle against sin eaters, even if she is pursued by an entire nation-state, even if her guardian hadn't gotten to the end of his character arc yet! it sucks, but she isn't going to go gently into that good light, even if it would be the more "practical" and "effective" path to take (see: the ancients summoning zodiark). she struggles forward, because she wants to keep living and keep struggling and keep growing. she started out never knowing a room beyond her cell, barely knowing anything except that she was doomed. but she worked and she learned and she struggled and in the end she chose to survive. ryne chooses to fight for her own right to live.
the first already had their apocalypse. 90% of the entire planet was destroyed. they are confined by giant walls of light. light is the aspect of stagnancy. eulmore has given up - to quote gaia, the past and future don't matter, it's only the present. giant monsters ravage the countryside! you have to watch your loved ones mutate into those monsters before your eyes, and often have to put them down yourself! the old world and its nation-states have been wiped away, leaving often fragmented and murky histories behind. the ecology got all fucked up, and i can't imagine the world being euled by stagnation is great for the birthrate. it's bleak as hell! but people keep living and adapting. we arrive on a first that has created new cultures and communities. it is not by clinging to the past and trying to restore the kingdoms of voeburt and nabaath araeng that the first survived: the first survived because it journeyed on into the future. "where one world ends does a new begin", etc
the exarch brought the scions to the first for a reason. only by saving the first can we save the source. but that isn't the only reason we fight to help the first, and honestly not even the primary reason: we help the first because we meet the people there and we care about them (see: the 5.3 dungeon, with all the npcs we met coming to help us). we help ryne not because we want access to her powers: we help her because she is a vulnerable child who needs our help. if ryne did not choose to live, if she chose to die to give us access to full oracle powers, shadowbringers would have veered into a gutting pyrrhic victory rather than the bittersweet one that it already is. ryne is the future. live for the future, even if it doesn't seem as "good" as what you idealize the past as, and struggle onward.
thancred gets to live past his fight with ran'jit because he has to welcome ryne back and tell her he loves her and that he's glad she's herself. that's his character arc. that's the narrative. he defeats the poison of nostalgia, he and ryne both live and get the chance to improve their relationship, and they work together to defeat the ultimate nostalgia-driven, grief-ruled monster, emet-selch.
(side note: fascism as an ideology is hugely driven by the belief that society should "return" to its "purest" "best" form. emet-selch invented fascism in garlemald. he uses a lot of fascist rhetoric to justify his actions. ffxiv's insistence that you must move past nostalgia and move on into the future goes hand in hand with its antifascist themes)
and in the end, ryne has to stay on the first while her family has to leave her. it's a bittersweet end to her coming of age story, but she uses the tools giving to her by her predecessors and loved ones to fight for her and her loved ones' futures (see: end of eden). it will be hard for her moving forward, but she has already conquered the excruciatingly struggle of choosing to want to live when it seemed like the whole world was telling her she's better off doomed. it'll be sad, and it'll be hard, but she'll be okay.

Omg doomed by the narrative.. that is funny to think about when my lair mostly is just dragons chilling fgsfg
Tumblr media
Pibb might be the closest I have though.. they're from a noble family and were super spoiled but wanted to live for themselves and squandered all their money partying, and now been lying to their parents for years about how great and successful they are when they're actually broke, loafing in a swamp and just getting into petty screaming matches with their neighbors/friends fdgsfd their chronic lying will probably catch up to them at some point, though the only real consequence will be losing out on a massive inheritance most dragon's wouldn't have had anyway so fdgsdf
🥑Show off your most underrated lore dragon, and talk about them!
oooh..tbh i do already shove my favorite lore dragons everywhere i can but one that might be underrated is...
Tumblr media
B'Elanna! Partially my own fault cuz i just haven't actually written that much for her, but i still enjoy her concept a lot. She's a very old Guardian who's still on her Search, and has nearly given up on the idea they even will ever find her charge. Now that I think of it..she's quite doomed by the narrative too dfgsfd
But she has a cool snake and a cool wife!
thank you for the ask!!

some thoughts evoked by the poll thingy with blaze being in the finals. It’s not about the polls, I do know these are for funsies and stuff, the thought occured to me though because of it.
I think blaze is a very mistreated and underrated character.
Wow, okay, that was loaded. Still stands though. I guess I have none other than SEGA to blame, but either way, I do wanna analyze her journey in the franchise and also share my thoughts along the way.
Blaze the cat had a great kick-off at the beginning of her career. What better way to introduce her than have her as a playable character alongside the main character in an exclusive game for the massively popular at the time, Nintendo DS. Sonic Rush sold more than a million copies and even though it was a pretty great game, it did more than that: it took care of Blaze. It established her character, her background, her story, it gave her an entire character development arc. What was there not to love about her? Sonic’s rival at first, a girl who could keep up with him in terms of speed and power, a princess from another dimension who could also control fire, having her own set of emeralds of which she was the guardian and even her own super form. So many things to consider. All those things were what made her super likeable back in 2005. Fans were actually obsessed with her. And they needed more. So, SEGA had to do something about it.
Here comes Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), changing quite a few things that we already knew about our favorite blue speedster. Possibly changing the entire franchise irredeemably. You already know where I’m going with this. We’re introduced to a new character, Silver the Hedgehog. Everyone is excited to play through his story and, right off the bat, we meet his company: Blaze. Everyone is cheering beacuse Blaze! She’s here, in a 3D game! Soooo, Silver is a character from Blaze’s dimension? Wrong. They’re from the future. Maybe Blaze’s dimension is from the future? Wrong. Blaze and Sonic don’t even acknowledge each other when they eventually meet, acting like they’ve never met before, like Sonic Rush never happened. Okay, fine, it can’t get worse than that, right? Wrong.
Blaze, for the entirety of the game is treated like a cosmetic, acting solely as Silver’s sidekick, or even as his mentor if you will, and nothing more. We rarely see through her and her thoughts and we’re given little to no means to understand her character. For some people, Blaze was a newly introduced character, since not everyone knew her existence from a year prior. What they get is not the powerful princess we met in Rush, the one who understood the power of friendship and used it in her favour despite her bad past. No, what they got in 06 was a side character, merely existing to give Silver advice and suggestions for his own journey, which she follows no matter what path he chooses to take, even if she disagrees or is not entirely content with it.
Her limited screentime used for fan-service purposes ended with a bang. Despite this huge journey of giving Silver a purpose (or helping him fulfill it), Blaze was the one who saved the future by using Chaos Control and sacrificing herself in the process, turning into a sort of Burning Blaze as she ascends to the sky. The only reason I felt bad about it was because I knew who Blaze was supposed to be, Blaze to me was the character introduced in Rush. But, given all the info from this specific game, I wasn’t really attached to this Blaze, I had no reason to. Her story felt too blank in comparison to everyone else’s for me to feel the impact of her death. I can understand Silver’s pain though.
Which doesn’t matter in the end because the timeline is erased.
So, does that mean Sonic 06 never happened or that it’s not canon? Nope. Everything happened and everything is back to the way it was. Except that the future is saved. How do we know? Sonic Rivals and Sonic Rush Adventure happened.
I will stick to the latter for the time being. Sonic Rush received a not so commerrcially successful as its predecessor sequel, picking up from where it left off. Kind of. The game released in 2007, a year after 06, the events of which were never to be brought up again, at least until Generations (2011). So, as you’d assume, Sonic and Blaze act like 06 never happened to them, continuing their story after Rush’s events. This game gave more in-depth character development to Blaze, who strengthens her bonds with old and new friends. It doesn’t really matter though because this game didn’t sell well, meaning not a lot of people bought it. Basically, no one knew that game existed so they were wondering what the hell happened to Blaze. Was she dead? Was she from the future? Was she from a different dimension? Would we ever see her again?
Uncertainty prevailed and after SEGA realized how bad of an idea it was to release 06 at its terrible state, they decided it would be best to pretend like it never happened. Iizuka (if I’m not mistaken) when asked in an interview, said that the reason Sonic and Blaze didn’t recognize each other in 06 was “amnesia”. Which doesn’t answer anything and I believe an official answer right now would differ a lot from that. Blaze went on to be a playable character in a few racing games, she got a few cameos. 2009, she appears in Sonic and the Black Knight as Sir Percival. Once again, it doesn’t change anything because, this is a storybook game and doesn’t take place in the in-game universe (this is the arthurian kingdom/world/universe).
Many fans theorized that 06 happened before Rush, making Blaze die in 06 and being transeferred to a new dimension while she had used Chaos Control, forgetting about the past, hence why she didn’t know Sonic in Rush. This was further supported by the fact that Blaze and Silver didn’t recognize each other in Sonic Colors DS (2010), meaning they had forgotten each other. Blaze forgot about 06 and traveled to a different dimension and Silver was affected by the timeline erasure. Sounds pretty solid, right?
Sonic Generations (2011). Blaze is there because she is still relevant and a beloved character to the franchise. No one knows how she got there and no one explains it but no one cares, she’s there to celebrate Sonic’s birthday, the Sonic she knows through the Rush games. But stuff happens and she gets trapped, alongside many of Sonic’s friends, into this ‘white limbo’. Sonic saves her...from Crisis City. Which is a stage from the future of Sonic 06. You may think “okay, maybe SEGA just wanted to pay tribute to 06 as well.” and that would be fine, if it weren’t for Blaze stating that she “never thought she’d be here again.” She remembers 06. Theory debunked. This is never mentioned again, in any game ever. It is still canon however.
After that, she appeared in Team Sonic Racing (2019), taking 8 years to appear in a game again...despite it being a spin-off. Nothing happens there really, she’s just there to talk to Silver and Amy who she races against for some reason.
She does appear in IDW, and we now know that the comics are canon to the game timeline. And, I gotta say, I like her there. She hasn’t appeared many times but the writers made those times count. (I think it was Ian who wrote her all of those times, so yeah).
To put it simply, Blaze is a lost opportunity. Talk about having a rough transition into 3D (hehe). SEGA could have used her in many ways and I think they were intending to, they were preparing her for something big. But they didn’t handle her as they were supposed to and this leads to where we are, where Blaze only appears in spin-offs and the comics, as if they are afraid to bring her back in mainline games. They could really capitalize on her character, if used correctly. They could use her as a playable character that uses the boost formula, as a character that has a super form. They could use her world to introduce new level designs, avoiding using Green Hill over and over again, right?
I don’t wanna see her standing on the sidelines, doing nothing. I don’t want her purpose to be mentoring Silver. I don’t want her legacy to be Sonic 06. I don’t her to appear only in dire situations (even though, now that I think about it, she didn’t even appear in Forces despite there being a literal war in Sonic’s world). I don’t want her character development to be forgotten and erased. She was a girl with a unique personality that now feels empty, as if she hides behind the face of being a princess from another dimension and nothing more, barely being Sonic’s or Cream’s friend. Mainly focused on the games right now.
It is said that Blaze is one of the fan-favourite characters of the franchise. But I don’t know if that’s correct. Because I’m not sure if people are a fan of who she is now, of who she is in their minds, or of who she is supposed to be, best depicted in the Rush games. Personally, I believe Blaze still has a lot of uncovered potential that they could take advantage of, so that they can show to everyone who Blaze is supposed to be. Strong and independant, her own character, her own hero.
Hopefully, we get to see more of that in the future. She definitely deserves it.

I don't think it's a secret that I'm a huge fan of Shoulmate's works. I just love how she manages to mix humor with real life. There are so many plot twists you'd never expect as well as heavy hitters that make you think.

I love the idea of the H2O Au! (H2-Oh No) The potential for hijinks, misunderstandings, and possible language barriers is just too good. I'm especially fond of the idea of like a eel or shark siren Reader feeling uncomfortable with their new form but receiving nothing but love and care from their (unwanted) new guardians. Also like the idea of dread from being stalked by creatures you don't understand...who want nothing but to care for you is such an underrated trope! -Night Anon 🌃
Oh carp, I think you just gave this AU a name! (It's very clever, and funny!) Hello again, Night Anon!
Yep! Plenty of hijinks, a few mishaps, and the weirdness of trying to understand mer/siren culture for those who have never heard of them! The adults, the older they are, the bigger they are! So... the biggest would be Sabretooth, Wolverine, Magneto, Mystique, and Xavier... And fun fact: They can take on a human form. Do the teens know this? No. But they're going to find out, in probably the worst way possible.
If Reader had a shark or eel tail, yes, they'd be loved on just as much if they had any other type of tail or tentacles! I headcanon Reader in H2-Oh No! has a fear of water, as they almost drowned when they were younger... So that adds extra angst and problems, as a mer who doesn't want to swim and can't swim very well is problematic to the adults and mer teens.
Which adult/s do you want to see the most? Which teens do you think should already be mer? Reader and their friends have a bit of a rough time getting around, as whenever they get too wet, they turn into a mer or siren, so they have trouble taking a shower or even going out in the rain... And let's not forget the full moon, which does odd things to any mer/sirens...
(Ask any questions y'all want for this au, okay? I've been planning this au for awhile now...)

starting off the sideblog, here's what my lineup for the Thunderbolts would be.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
First off, a bit about the characters that are getting cut:
Overall, the existing Thunderbolts lineup is very uninteresting in terms of the characters powers, and that's a major reason for all three of the characters I cut, but there's also some more specific reasons.
Bucky: Why is Marvel putting him on this team? Why can't he just be in Cap 4? Being on the thunderbolts really makes no sense for the character at this point.
Taskmaster, Red Guardian: Way too much Black Widow (2021) representation with these three around. I have very little interest in either character, so... Toss them.
This leaves US Agent, Ghost, and Yelena Belova. I feel like all three characters are pretty solid, and while Yelena isn't necessarily bringing much to the team in terms of powers, she makes up with it with personality.
With all that in mind, the four additions to the roster:
Baron Zemo
Is he in this movie or not? I genuinely don't know. I don't think I have to explain this one, he's just a perfect fit.
Trish Walker, AKA Hellcat
Last seen locked up in the Raft, same as Zemo. it's an absolutely perfect setup. In terms of powers, she's got superhuman dexterity and reflexes, minor night vision, and potentially a little bit of super strength. Her getting out of the Raft in Thunderbolts could help set up her eventually reuniting with Jessica Jones in a later project.
Mary Walker
The mercenary for hire with DID last seen in the very underrated Iron Fist Season 2. I am gonna be very disappointed if the MCU never does anything with this character again, and I think Thunderbolts could be a good spot to throw her in. She doesn't have superpowers that we know of, just general mercenary skills. However, last we saw her, she had just discovered that she has a third alter, which could potentially have mutant abilities, if they wanted to go in that direction. Initially I was reluctant to have Mary, since we already have a completely unrelated character with the last name Walker, but then I remembered that US Agent is named John Walker, so at this point I think it's funny if we have a bunch of Walkers.
Mike Peterson AKA Deathlok
This one might be slightly confusing to some. I mean, if I'm saying Bucky isn't a fit, then how would the shockingly similar Mike Peterson be any better? Well, I have a bit of a devious idea for this: what I would do is make it seem like this is a rebooted, more villainous version of Deathlok, but the twist is that he's the same one from Agents of Shield, and Mike is actually spying on the Thunderbolts on behalf of Shield, to try and determine what Val's end goal in creating the Thunderbolts truly is.

As someone who love Geological and travelling. I wonder why there aren't any Mahou Shojo with a biomes theme already. It could work really well with the Climate Change topic too.
The main girls would be based on earth's biomes (jungles, oceans, mountains,...) The protagontist would be a Desert themed heroine (since deserts are badly underrated/misunderstood, they're amazing too ppl).
I think the Protag would be really confused about why she's desert based, since due to their reputation, she thinks desert are just "bad" and scary wastelands. Add in the mascot (a shapeshfiting snek or bird could work nicely) along with a Forest themed teammates who love studying about deserts (and nature in general), and there could be a plot point about the Desert Girl learning to accept her powers.
The team would include:
An ocean themed warrior who's older (probably 23-24yrs old) than the rest of her team, is their leader and mentor (since the sea is much, much older , practically ancient compare to other biomes). She'd use a spear/trident as her weapon and can shift into a "full aqua" form in which she's near unbeatable since nothing can really physically harm her in this liquidfied state. She'd have gills (for breathing underwater) and Bioluminescence (since deep sea creatures have them). Oh, and she can sing very well, 'cause mermaids and sirens. She's the team Cool Big Sis and is actually the legal guardian of one of the girl. She's normally really calm, but she teases the younger members a lot.
*Also she does have a mermaid form, her tail is that of a sailfish. And she could bite like a shark in this form, 'cause why wouldn't she be able to do that? She could manipulate ink and salt too, since squids exist and the ocean is salty.
The empathetic and warmhearted girl is a tundra themed warrior. She has a fox-like outfit which change the colour of its fur depending on the seasons (like how arctic foxes change their fur color). Her boots actually was design similarly to the hooves of a Reindeer and she have a cloak that can turn into owl wings allowing her to fly. Her body can also give off a very cold aura due to tundra being the coldest biome, but her body temperature itself is very warm. Plus, her suit would be fluffy so her friends enjoy snuggling with her for warmth during winter. She's a cuddle bug so it's a win-win for her too. Also, she's shorter than her friends since tundra animals have shorter legs and the flora there is very short as well. She uses a pair of metal fans to fight.
*She would be able to summon harsh cold wind and manipulate them to attack her enemies. She can also create moss patches and small shrubs to protect her friends. And she got great hearing btw, due to artic hares.
An energetic girl transforms into a Lake/River/freshwater Swamp heroine. She can manipulate water and is able to summon boiling hot water for attacks. She's able to purify polluted water. She can create blobs of murky slugde that can poison and slow down enemies. Her suit is based on crocodile/alligator and frogs. Her armor is thick and scaly, giving her nearly OP defense. They are mostly dry, but she can make them produce a slimy and venomous mucus at will. She also has buglike mandibles on her mask. Her armor also has iredescence btw, since it'd be very stylish. Her weapon is an axe.
*she's the Ocean Heroine adopted daughter. She enjoy cooking and her food taste amazing, but watching her cooks can be scary. She's very insecure about her look (she has vitiligo). Despite being tomboyish and energetic, she prefer dresses over pants. She also has a pet snake.
The Forest lad herself, she's very studious and creative. Her armor is based on tropical birds, big cats and flowers. This mean that she has the most colorful armor of the group. She has a pair of large bird wings behind that resemble a combination of several bird species wings. She can also became invisible to enemies (chameleon) and can deliver poisonous attack using her "claws". She also have this patches of small flower on one of her shoulder plate, from which she can realise a sleep inducing gas. She's not at all okay with the Protag feeling toward deserts and tried her best to change her friend view on the biome. She has like, three pet cats at home. Her weapon is a bow along with javelins.
*she's a part of the student council, and is the chillest one in that group. It's common knowledge among the younger students in the school that if you want to get out of trouble, you bribe her with some cool stationaries and she'd help you.
The Protagontist herself, she's kind and friendly, but easily confused. Her armor is based on desert snakes and scorpions. She has multiple segmented legs sprouting from her back armor plate. She also has a scorpion tail that can deal some serious damage. She can tank extremely high heat along with enduring below zero temperature. She is able to control sand to attack enemies. Additionally, since Antarctica is a desert, she has an ice mode that she'd to unlock.
*she watched alot of dark MGs show and was not at all on board with becoming a Magical Girl when the birb mascot first came to her. Thankfully, the mascot do watch those animes too (they got tricked by the art style) and thus is also as traumatized as she is.
...dear lord, I just write all that in 30mins, how did this happen???
Hey, you should craft your own series with that! I sense great potential for storytelling!

Reading The Tenant of Wildfell Hall (indeed, Anne Brontë's prose is too unfortunately underrated) and I see why people mean Huntington was obvious red flags that Helen was dismissing with "I can change him" and that her aunt's warnings rang ominously true.
HOWEVER as much as her aunt actually wants what's good for her, she is also doing half the work by antagonising herself and making her opinion as to what constitutes Helen's happinesses dismissive some by pushing as the only alternative these gross old men on Helen instead, whom she already explained the idea of marrying disgusts her. Of course Huntington shines bright in comparison.
Her aunt is being pragmatic, and is so on what she sees as Helen's own good, but not her expressed happiness. By bringing those expressly despised men after Helen already rejected them (to force themselves on her with her guardians' encouragement instead no less, in spite of her spoken revulsion), she proves as unwilling to respect Helen's boundaries as Huntington. If she feels compelled to understand that behaviour in a person she already loves, why would she think it an impediment to loving another who does the same? Especially when Huntington at least comes with personal appeal.
