he knew coming to their party was a mistake. hell, he’d considered telling them he was simply too busy to come. it wasn’t exactly a lie, he was drowning in work, trying to learn the ropes of his new position - but he’d never been able to say no to them. after a few drinks in quick succession, he made his way over to them, forcing a tight smile on to his face. “congratulations.”

wait do people read first person stories and think they're the ones in the story???
Saw people talking about not liking first person, which is fair, but their reasoning was like "I would not do that" and I don't understand that mindset.
First person stories are still about a character. A character making their own decisions. First person isn't about you???? At least I thought it wasn't. What am I missing? I've always seen first person as just a more in-depth look into a character's mind and stricter POV. Not as a reader stand-in.

I keep seeing people use this image as a reaction to people's original posts:
Tumblr media
Which I think is really incorrect, because with an original post they haven't come up to ur window, u've come up to their window.
So I made this, as a more accurate reaction for original posts:

More than that, if your theory of anything social at all is prescriptive (outlines what SHOULD happen) and not descriptive (observes what DOES happen) then I'd say something is wrong.
Even literal scientists who make predictions for a living don't use prescriptive theories. If something happens they don't expect, they rewrite their theories.
Any political theory that completely excludes a group has (imo) got to be prescriptive in some way:
If you exclude men from your idea of feminism, you will fail to examine how the patriarchy often also harms men.
If you exclude trans women from your idea of feminism, you will fail to examine how misogyny affects femininity as a concept.
If you exclude trans men from your definition of feminism, you will fail to examine the erasure and infantilisation of women and queer people in general in society.
Now let's be clear. Your definition of feminism can absolutely place these as exceptions. I'd be wary of that in some cases but in others I think that's fair.
It's important to recognise that we're never just having one conversation. Our world is vast, and even the idea of systemic oppression maintained by tradition and implicitly upheld by the common people is, for many, already too loaded an idea to properly engage with.
It's a lot. It's a lot to deal with and it's okay to want to simplify that so that you can actually fucking talk about it lmao
But don't Prescribe.
Describe.
if your trans feminist theory link post doesn’t include anything by trans men it’s only half a theory. you can’t just define trans men out of your version of feminism

The secret Dungeon Meshi sauce that's getting people to eat better is that it's so non-judgmental. Senshi and the rest of the gang never talk about what not to eat besides things that taste bad and literal poison. They don't even talk about "health" that much besides the importance of a balanced diet. It's so much easier to eat well when you think of food simply as something your body needs, and that it's often worth the extra effort to make it taste good, especially when you understand how to connect "things your body needs" with "things that taste good"

one of the most infuriating things about becoming an adult is when you realize that it actually is 10x easier to solve problems by making a phone call vs literally any other communication method
