@fearowkenya I was very easily able to replicate the "faceplant" that you experienced at the Fair residence! It's caused by these otherwise innocent little ledges that the game treats as a steep drop due to their angle relative to the ground. The result is a dramatic jump, either up or down depending on which direction the ledge is approached from.

Arcane as a series loves to do color symbolism, that much is painfully clear, and we all know that’s going to continue in season two. And then this image came across my dash
Tumblr media
And for the life of me I could not stop thinking about it. Not necessarily what the characters are doing but just. The composition of the shot.
Piltover throughout the show is always associated with up. It’s literally Topside, the point is that it sits above those it deems lesser. Vi, in season two, has so far been pretty associated with piltover and with not fitting in to piltover. So I think it’s really interesting that when she moves toward the direction of piltover,
Tumblr media
she’s going back to a box filled with bottles and broken reflections. She’s going back to a place where she doesn’t fit. And if we keep looking at it:
Tumblr media
The place where her companion is headed, downwards, the heart of the undercity, it’s warm and inviting, its the clubs and the fights, it’s hurting her, and yet down there she’s more at home than she could ever be in a glittering golden city, or in a concrete box. The light comes in through her window, where she has to look out on it. And more colors, the light is warm and inviting, but it’s yellowy gold, it’s in the colors of Piltover. These two halves of herself are mixing more than I think she would like.
To vi, the undercity will always be her home, but the golden light of topside will always feel more welcoming than it should.

Curious about this, ‘cause I’ve been doing headcanon stuff about my faves a lot lately.
No “combo of these” choice because I’m asking about the primary way, not for the only way or every way. Whichever you use/that happens most often, that’s your answer to the poll.
But feel free to tell me your combo in reblog text, tags, or replies!
Reblogging to send this to a farther audience would be very nice of you btw!
(Also, all the ways I put in the poll and any other methods people use are valid and cool. It’s headcanons—hopefully the main goal is to have fun and maybe share what you make with others! Just making sure you all know I think that. <3)

Literary criticism of Ryuunosuke Akutagawa wants so badly for him to have been spiritually fragile. He was wrought with doubt and skepticism, and he felt crushed beneath the pressures stacked on his thin frame by others' demands of him. He was certain there was prophecy written in his mother's insanity and her ghost was a fixture haunting the edges of his vision.
But, he was also overprescribed barbituates. Like, really, really overprescribed. High doses of barbituates are now known to cause irritability, paranoia, depression, and, sometimes, suicidal ideation. His spirit was fine; it was his pharmacologist who should have been scrutinized.
This is especially agitating to me when Ryuunosuke Akutagawa's malaise is contrasted against Nakajima's mettle. Nakajima was administered ephedrine for his chronic, debilitating asthma. Ephedrine weakened his heart, but has a dopamine transporter inhibitory effect similar to amphetamine and other stimulants. (Then, stimulants were gaining popularity as antidepressants and were supplied by the US, British, Japanese, and German militaries to servicemen during World War II.) In other words, there were confounding variables which might have attributed to one's sensitive nerves and the other's spirited focus.
Both men were brilliant writers who stylized their pediatric onset anxiety; profound insight; excessive cleverness; stubborn resistance to literary trends; and existential terror. Both men suffered from chronic mental and physical illnesses and overrelied on treatments widely prescribed but poorly suited for their conditions. Both men were killed in no small part by excessive administration of medication: the former by depressants meant to settle his disordered mind enough to sleep, and the latter by the stimulant meant to settle his disordered body enough to write. But, way too much ink has been spilled on insisting fragile nerves and spiritual weakness killed Akutagawa, while the cruelty of fate struck down Nakajima.
That is the problem with treating authors as if they're literary devices or signs of the times, rather than people who lived to save themselves.

hiii! i was wondering if you have any advice for drawing curly hair? your james has the *perfect* curls and i have been struggling SO much to find resources, free or paid, on drawing male curly hair! it’s all straight male hair or super long curls and i’m fighting for my life trying to draw curly haired james and remus
hi!! first of all, i'm very happy that you like my james curls, i love drawing his hair, so this is a nice compliment :D
second, i have to admit that there is honestly not much technical stuff to what i'm doing, so i fear my advice might not be very helpful. regardless, i have drawn you a quick little james and will try to explain my process below the cut
Tumblr media
I put a speedpaint here, unfortunately that's rather blurry, but i think you still get the gist of it
my lineart for hair is very, very rough. i generally don't have any connecting lines, that way in the end the hair will look more fluffy and flowy and you're not as confined to a specific shape while colouring
Tumblr media
then the base colour - i start by using a big brush and just colouring in a blob that doesn't quite reach any edges. generally for colouring i use a brush with pressure sensitivity and colour in a way that usually it's a little transparent. I always add a flat colour layer (usually orange-y) underneath all my drawings. that way you a) won't have any white spots and b) all the colours will harmonise better with each other.
once i have the big blob of colour done i go in with a smaller brush and add the rough curl shapes i couldnt do with the bigger one, and after that i make the brush even smaller and draw flyaway hairs and the likes, basically each curly bit gets a few strands and then i just add a random few that go against my previous established pattern to give james that messy look
Tumblr media
after that comes i guess a sort of rendering process? i clip two layers to my hair colour layer and have one for highlights ("add" layer with orange-y colour) and one for shadow ("hard light" layer with dark purple, idk what these modifiers are called in other programs) and honestly, this is just a process of fucking around. i usually highlight the entire top outline of the hair, just take a wide brush and go over the edge, and then i put a random splattering of curves throughout the rest. most highlights are paired with a shadow next to it, but not all shadows are paired with a highlight, they're just there for more texture of the hair. there really is no specific process here besides avoiding to align all the swoops in the same direction
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the last step is the very last step of every drawing i make, i add another "add" layer at the very top and use a different, rougher brush with less pressure sensitivity. with that one i add all my glowy details nearly everywhere where there are highlights. for the hair this is basically just fly away hairs that get extra highlighted, primarily all around the edges of the hair. with this one i also like adding the odd highlight where there is no flat highlight from before
Tumblr media
that's essentially it. i would say the main takeaway from this is that the less you try to get a certain shape done, the more it will look like messy curls, and the random pieces of hair not quite following any shape add a lot to it.
i hoped this helped in any way whatsoever? good luck in your curl drawing adventures!! <33

i think as long as you have a good story you're passionate about and the motivation to convey it as meaningfully as you can, then regardless of how others regard your art your completed piece will be good, and the gripes will end up becoming integral features of the story itself

"-Your move, bug."
Just a great example of why Norman is such a potent foil to Peter. Spidey might be smarter and stronger but Norman has his trump card: he's part of the system. No matter what, he always go back to a position of power and is virtually untouchable for working-class Peter Parker. (save for the one time in The List issue which was very awesome)
