Crowley wasn’t subtle.

Not when he performed shirtless on stage, hair wild and eyes glittering like sin.

Not when he flirted shamelessly with the audience.

And definitely not when he stared at Aziraphale from the stage like he was the only one in the crowd that mattered.

Which, to Crowley, he was.

Aziraphale, ever the professional, refused to entertain the idea. He wore crisp suits, kept his schedule tighter than Heaven’s HR department, and always responded to Crowley’s antics with a tight-lipped sigh and a “Really, Crowley.”

But Crowley noticed things.

Like how Aziraphale always made sure he had lemon-ginger tea after shows because “you strain your voice when you growl like a bloody wolf.”

Or how he refused to let any interviewer twist Crowley’s words.

Or how he never missed a performance, even if he insisted it was “purely business.”

Crowley had been in love with him for years.

So, he wrote a song.

He didn’t tell anyone what it was about. Not the band. Not the press. Not even Aziraphale.

Especially not Aziraphale.

It was a soft one—rare for him. No screaming guitars. Just a haunting piano, a slow, pulsing rhythm, and his voice, rough with honesty.

“He don’t know he’s holy,

Don’t see the light he leaves behind,

But I’ve knelt in cathedrals less sacred

Than the space where our fingers brushed that time…”

He played it for the first time in London. Full crowd. Sold out. He didn’t introduce it. Just sat on the stool, adjusted the mic, and let it out.

Backstage, Aziraphale stood frozen, heart hammering. He recognized the lyrics. Recognized the melody. Recognized the soft way Crowley sang the word “angel.”

And he knew.

He knew.

After the show, Crowley came backstage, trying to act casual.

“So… what’d you think?” he asked, pretending to be nonchalant as he peeled off his jacket, but his voice cracked on the last word.

Aziraphale didn’t answer right away.

Instead, he stepped forward, eyes impossibly wide and glassy. And then, very quietly, he said:

“…Was that for me?”

Crowley shrugged. “Maybe. I mean. It could be about anyone, really. Very generic. Could be about a priest. Or a ghost. Or a very dramatic pigeon—”

Aziraphale kissed him.

It was soft. Careful. Like Aziraphale had been holding back for years, and now, with one verse and a chorus, the dam had cracked.

When they pulled apart, Aziraphale whispered, “I know you’re not subtle. But I had to be sure.”

Crowley’s grin was so wide it nearly split his face.

“Guess I’ll have to write a sequel.”

Season 8 didn't start off with a whole ton of hope. In fact it furthered the continuation of the poor characterization from season 7 with the addition of convoluted lore writing. However, after watching the last episode of this season, this show has restored my faith in it. It's like everything clicked together seamlessly, in a way I haven't seen from this show in a long time.

Now, I had a paragraph of complaints when I first wrote this but I'm choosing to let them go.

"So?"

Who knew the most devastating line in this show would be said with only one syllable. My heart sank down to the pit of my stomach when I first heard Sam say it. Oh man, Jared does such an incredible job at his wounding portrayal of Sam in this scene. This is by far his best performance ever (I'm getting choked up here just visualizing the scene in my mind). Sam's soul was purely human here and what a fragile soul at that. His guilt has manifested into a physical sickness and it's so haunting to see. Dean's reaction and apology elevates this moment to a song of sweet harmony. A duet between two sorry brothers who must put aside grudges and feelings of inadequacy to come together as whole. Finally they are able to see eye to eye after so many brutal instances of them being world's apart. A scene like this understands what Supernatural is to its core.

I wish I had more words to describe everything but I'd need more time. Still, god what a memorable scene. It's become my absolute favorite and I'm both intrigued and terrified to see if another scene later on can top it.

Okayyyy so what else did I enjoy?

-The ending was gorgeous with all the angels falling. (I constantly think about when I'm making fake edits in my mind.)

-I love Charlie episodes. I knew I would fall in love her immediately from the start. I'm glad she got some backstory to add some dimension to her character. She's a character I can definitely see getting far in the show.

-I LOVE BENNY! I miss Benny. Absolutely devastated, will not recover from losing him. Sadly, his character was always destined to be a tragedy. Even so, I will forever long for a happy ending for him. The wound is still fresh though so moving on.

-The whole "I need you" scene between Dean and Cas was everything to me and I will savor that scene forever. I will be craving another scene like this going forward. The desperation and intensity drawn from that moment is what I need more of from this show.

-The Parallels between Castiel and Sam this season was UGH so great. They're so willing to sacrifice every bone in their body not for the world (they can tell themselves that) but to save Dean from disappointment. Beautiful symmetry here.

-Sam and Crowley's dynamic is so fascinating. Crowley being slowly restored of his humanity is something I wouldn't have imagined possible in this show. Having Sam, the man who knows the path of forgiveness more than anyone else be the one to do it is perfect. Such an unlikely duo I'm excited to see explored.

-SARAH?? I didn't expect to see Sarah again whatsoever cause 1.) I thought the show would've just moved on and forgotten Sam's promise to return. 2.) I've unfortunately ran into a lot of spoilers but I never saw anyone talk about this so I really didn't expect it at all. I wish their moment lasted longer with more of a kick to Sam's character. I did cry, a lot, so if they wanted an emotional torment they got it. I'm still glad this scene exists though even after my pain and agony.

I really love this show, I hope that comes across here. I started watching Supernatural this year after years of peeking at it through window blinds. Every song reminds me of these silly fictional characters and everywhere I go I see a Supernatural reference. This series means the world to me and the mold in my brain. I know I'm new here spouting things that have been said before, for what, over 15 years? I'm just catching up to the surface of everything. For this review I wanted to leave my complaints for another time so I could romanticize all the good things that have happened and are to come. So if my next ranking is more criticism than praise, then so be it. I wouldn't do it if it wasn't at least fun!

cant get the thought of aziraphale having a 'younger' or 'more time appropriate' human form out of my head.

just imagine our angel looking and being dressed like an early 2000s teen, or even a 1980s young adult. you cant tell me that, with how much aziraphale reads, he wouldnt want to try and experience as much as what is described in those books as possible.

clubbing? frat parties? college? highschool? going on stupid adventures with other teens? the drama of being a teenager/young adult in school would absolutely draw him in

i dont think he used wouldve used that form a lot, but he used it enough times for it to be slightly broken in and for him to slip into a different mindset when wearing it.

this also brings me to where my brain goes everytime i think of this. and that is:

what if azi, experiencing the joys of young adulthood, trying to learn about it and getting fully into it with other people in hopes of trying new things and influencing them to choose fun for the sake of it bringing joy and goodness, ran into our beloved beatles haircut crowley in the 80s while at a bar?

this has been floating in my head for about a week and a half now. the beloveds being in different, but similar, bodily forms. i can imagine crowley having one as well.

(I had kinda suspected it was going to be an R instead of an L, so the fact that it's SO close to Laverne except for that is hilarious to me personally.) and Dragoneye Duke is honestly probably the best translation for his title, I wasn't envying the localizers that one. :') Baur instead of Baul I was NOT expecting, but in retrospect I think his name's supposed to be a reference to the Bauru crocodile, so that actually makes way more sense!

"Stop saying Crowley won't help Aziraphale in S3 he'd go back to him in a HEARTBEAT and nothing would stop him" I get it no one likes the idea of Crowley being bitter after what happened for a long period of time but like can we at least acknowledge that he's currently going through probably the most emotional pain in his life since falling? Can we agree that he's opened his heart entirely - something you couldn't pay him to do unless the world is literally ending and he's desperate - to Aziraphale, and got shot down? Can we understand that he did it AGAIN only to lose Aziraphale again? Not that what Aziraphale did isn't without Crowley's own shortcomings (hiding the truth of Heaven's cruelty from him) but like,,,,

The appeal here isn't Scorned Crowley Doesn't Love Aziraphale Anymore, or Never Wants To Help Him Again, the appeal here is Crowley learning enough self respect to not just walk back right to Aziraphale like nothing happened after Aziraphale has had a pattern of consistently refusing him. Going years ping-ponging between "We're not friends I don't even know him" to "That's what friends are for right?" and "We're friends, why would you even say anything?" and "Friends? We're not friends. We are an angel and a demon!"

Like I get it, Crowley is a heartbreakingly forgiving person. Of course he's gonna forgive Aziraphale, I'll be surprised if he didn't forgive him by the time he walked out the bookshop door, but gdi he could at least grant himself the luxury of being at least a little irritated for longer than however long it takes to make a globe and some books float and angrily cry out to God in his flat. But due to the change of pace and dynamic that is establishing part of the conflict for Season 3, I just really like the idea of him for ONCE prioritizing himself and being like "Okay, fine. We'll get back at it when you're ready, then," instead of just taking Aziraphale back like his words and actions meant nothing to him, when clearly they have an effect on him.

What is Aziraphale going to learn if Crowley just accepts what he did so quickly, like he always has the entire time they've been friends? Idk maybe I'm just projecting too much darkness on their dynamic but I mean, if the pattern of Aziraphale pushing Crowley away/disrespecting him one day and then being fine with his friendship the next + Crowley never stopping to be like "Hey, that's not cool, at least give me a little credit" or smth was fine all along and will continue to be fine in the future, then why, after 6,000 years of being friends and loving this demon, can Aziraphale still not accept that Crowley is just fine the way he is, and instead got excited to promote him to an angel in a heartbeat once the opportunity presented itself? You can't blame all of it on Heaven when Aziraphale has demonstrated his free will/defiance to Heaven so many times. Or, I don't know, I guess maybe we can? Maybe I'm just craving too much angst to the point where I'm letting it cloud my analysis of canon. Idk.

Something something Crowley and Rowena parallels, like mother like son. Cycle of trauma. Losing the one thing they still hold dear. Being proven that they can still care and love again, they’re scared of it but they can’t run from it. Trying so hard to become something that’s not meant for them and eventually giving up in the sense that they realize maybe that’s not what they wanted in the first place, only for it to be too late. But they both become what they’re meant to be even though neither really gets what they want. Also they’re both incredibly cunty and manipulative in a fun way. They’re tragic but also comedic relief somehow and I ate it up.

Archangel Gabriel, Trickster, Loki, many names for possibly the funniest guy I know. He can shapeshift not just his form but also his cutie mark if he so chooses to have one! The god Loki is a deer in this world, so Gabe took on some more fawn like traits to add to his prettiest face. Despite still having pony traits, this half-assed disguise still worked for a long period before he eventually got captured.

Also he didn’t die in season 13 to me, he is living in Australia with several other supernatural folks whom the plot forgot in the hunter protection program. (Jesse, Anna, Missouri, Henriksen, to name a few others)
