Miraculous and Redemption
You know, I think I understand what my issue is with this show’s stance on redemption. It’s not specifically who gets the redemption, even the hypocrisy of who does or doesn’t get redemption/forgiven is only one part of the issue.
It’s specifically how they treat the characters who don’t get redemption.
I have seen, in media, where terrible characters who’ve done terrible things get a redemption, and the mean characters, who are just mean, don’t change at all. That’s fine! People are complex, some change and some don’t, some have done horrible things and some are just school yard bullies. It’s fine to showcase this, I mean hell, in the Owl House, Boscha was still an asshole in season 2, and this was past the point that characters like Lilith were forgiven (Lilith isn’t really terrible in Season 1, she just has done a lot worse than Boscha)
Miraculous’s massive issue with this, however, is that the narrative/the authors treats those mean characters as worse than those characters who’ve done horrible things.
I mean, what other media has one of the creators say that some high school bully is comparable to Trump when her literal rich, corrupt, politician father is right fucking there?
Usually the media where a terrible person is redeemed and the mean character isn’t doesn’t treat it as a moral issue. It’s not “oh well this person can’t change” or “oh this person is even worse!” It’s usually “they’re mean, and that’s annoying, but oh well”. That media never treats the character like Satan incarnate, or treats their meanness compared to actual villainy as a moral issue. When characters are around them, they aren’t treating that mean character as literal scum compared to the former villain, the narrative doesn’t treat them as more than an annoyance or, for lack of better words, “small fry”. I mean, while Owl House acknowledged that Boscha was still a prick in season 2, they didn’t act like she was worse than Belos.
Miraculous treats Chloe and Lila, some petty, mean teenagers, as the literal devil compared to other characters. Lila is a master manipulator who somehow convinced 3 people she’s their daughter and has a trillion disguises! It doesn’t matter that that twist came out of nowhere, and it makes it a little weird that this teenager has multiple disguises that she uses around the city apparently, one where she looks like a 20 year old, making people theorize she’s an adult because how on earth is she smart enough or resourceful enough to do this. Chloe is a villain comparable to Gabe, even when she was a hero! Her backstory doesn’t justify any of her actions, but for literally everyone else, we are going to justify their actions! If they don’t do that, they’ll just sweep their actions under the rug completely! It doesn’t matter that she’s consistently being manipulated by the fully grown adults around her, she’s terrible don’t think about it! She neglected her father somehow (???????????????????) so it’s fully justified to send her off with her abusive mother! We aren’t even going to acknowledge that Andre literally had a part in raising her and her turning out this way, because somehow he did no wrong! And what sucks is that it’s succeeding at making those characters appear that way, because some fans are completely genuine when they say that Gabriel is more sympathetic than them. I mean, if you frequent the Reddit (which you absolutely shouldn’t, one way or another it will melt your brain), you’ll consistently see character rankings with Gabriel, Lila, Tomoe, and Chloe in the same category. Somehow the show put the bullies in the same categories as the literal abusive terrorist and his helper in these people’s eyes. You will constantly see these literal teenagers be put on the same category as adults who have done infinitely worse. Even Andre, who is a corrupt politician and terrible role model and literally RAISED CHLOE… is “woobified” by some fans, even going as far to say that Chloe abused him! Nevermind how that would even be possible when she was like, 5-7 when her mom left! I can’t point my fingers at the fans for this though, because the show goes out of its way to place all of its sympathy on the adults, even when they don’t deserve it, EVEN WHEN THE PAST WRITING LITERALLY PAINTS THEIR ACTIONS AS BAD
(It also doesn’t help that the fully grown adult’s actions are all forgiven but god forbid you’re terrible as a teenager, then you’ll get sent off to live with your verbally abusive mother while your basically deadbeat father adopts your half sister literally right after wiping his hands of you)
I will talk about the hypocrisy in redemption at some point, and how bias and forgiveness is handled, but godDAMN, this sucks

Disproportionate Retribution Poll Round 1 Side A:
Foxy Loxy's (Chicken Little) Disproportionate Retribution:
"She was basically just the school bully and star baseball player and a KID and. Not only did all of her efforts to get the team to the final game get completely forgotten when Chicken Little's FLUKE won the game, but when aliens invaded and she tried to fight back she got ZAPPED AWAY and then LOBOTOMIZED when being zapped back at the end. And the aliens could have fixed that but then Runt goes "no, she's perfect" AND SO SHE STAYS LOBOTOMIZED. FOR BEING MEAN TO THE PROTAGONIST. THAT WAS SO FUCKED UP"
"She was mean to Chicken Little (just like the rest of the town) and just generally self-absorbed. At the end of the movie one of the aliens says that there has been “an error in reconstitution” which caused her brain waves to be scrambled, completely changing her personality. The aliens do offer to turn her back, but Runt likes her better this way and she just stays like that forever I guess.
She was a bully, but I think being completely brainwashed is a slightly over the top punishment (especially since the rest of the town, including the adults, were also pretty horrible to Chicken Little and they got of scot-free)"
"The crime: bullying Chicken Little along with the rest of the town. The punishment: being physically rearranged into having a more "feminine" personality and one of the main characters refusing to let the aliens fix her because he wants a girlfriend. Why it's over the top: aside from the obvious, the rest of the town gets off scot-free for some reason, it's ONLY the tomboy bully who gets rearranged like this."
"She bullied the main character. But her getting lobotomised permanently in the end was way too far, especially since it could've been fixed. The only reason it wasn't was because a boy wanted her to stay that way because he liked it. Also she was a kid and literally the whole town was made up of bullies. She was just the only one to be punished so harshly, and in such a creepy way."
"Okay, in the original story there's a chance she could've deserved bad due to being a much bigger antagonist, but in the Chicken Little movie, she's just a bully and a kid who is mean but also committing zero crimes beyond being mad that Chicken Little won the baseball game or being too mean in her bullying. Naturally, this means that, later in the movie, she's zapped but revealed later to be doing fine, but as a completely different person, her entire identity replaced into someone more girly than her tomboy self and cheery to a fault. An offer is made to bring her back to who she was, but good ol Runt decides that she's perfect like this and lets her entire identity not be restored in favor of having a perfectly palatable girl for himself. They are portrayed romantically after and this is not treated as something awful for her because at least she's not mean now"
"I know she’s a bully to Chicken Little and his friends, so she’s an a-hole for that, but despite this, I honestly don’t think that she deserves her brain staying permanently SCRAMBLED by aliens. It’s so bad to the point that people say that Foxy Loxy experienced a literal lobotomy from the aliens. And Runt of the Litter, one of Chicken Little’s friends, told the alien that they should keep her the way she is and that “she’s perfect”, probably so she can be his girlfriend. Foxy Loxy’s entire personality was warped, turning her feisty competitive sport-loving tomboy self to a partly-crazed feminine girlfriend for Runt."
Chloe Bourgeois's (Miraculous Ladybug) Disproportionate Retribution:
"Crime: Being a school bully
Punishment: being disowned by her father and being replaced with her half sister, who is not even related to said father, while being shipped off with her abusive mother"

i cant really express how sad it is to see an ex dev of the lis sequel literally begging people to play the game in spite of how horribly the development went, because there was real hard work, sweat, and tears put into it despite higher ups better efforts to make it a soulless cash grab.
i'd really recommend reading that person's whole post because it is extremely illuminating about why this game exists in the way it does. she states over and over that hatred of the character chloe price was commonplace from the top-down.
it is no exaggeration to say that square enix is the fucking villain here. not individuals who worked on the game and did their best in the shitty circumstances
that being said, i truly dont see it being likely that i will play this game myself. it feels extremely disingenuous to the characters i love. at the very least i will certainly not being giving square enix a dime of my money.

@darkwitch1999, I got a question. It’s a little bit of Marinette salt, but what was Noelle and Devin’s worst experience with Marinette/Ladybug?
Well, @princessbutterflysposts. In an alternate reality where Marinette/Ladybug is an even worse bitch than Chloe, Lila, or even the Parisian Mean Girls quartet, I can imagine any one of these scenarios happening that would cause Noelle and Devin to hold a grudge.
Devin Nolan
During the first year of junior high, Marinette almost turned him into a social pariah just because he comes from a wealthy family and she saw him talking to Chloe ONE TIME! Apparently having money and telling Chloe to "fuck off" meant that he was another spoiled rich brat according to Marinette's perspective.
Fortunately, it didn't take long for Devin to convince everyone that he was nothing at all like Chloe. Though Marinette just switched tactics and used his cold, aloof personality as an excuse.
Ignores Devin's intense fear of being touched. She claims that Devin is just being "angsty" and "overdramatic" and doesn't take his phobia seriously.
Whenever Devin shoves her off or hits her whenever she touches him, she plays the victim card, making it seem as if Devin was a jerk despite her being the one clearly in the wrong.
Marinette mocked Devin's psychological fixation on being perfect when she found Devin having a panic attack in an isolated area of the school after he had gotten a 99% on a test. Didn't even stop to consider that as a red flag of psychological trauma/abuse. Again, claiming that he was being "overdramatic".
Ladybug tried to recruit him into becoming a superhero when someone he was close to got akumatized, but when Devin refused because he wasn't interested or comfortable with becoming a superhero, Ladybug had the audacity to call him "selfish".
Devin eventually gave in when Ladybug wouldn't stop pestering/gaslighting him for his help. Jokes on Ladybug, when Devin saw an opportunity to talk the akuma down, he de-transformed right in front of the akuma and revealed himself. He had to endure a harsh lecture from Ladybug about how what he did was "dangerous" and that she could never trust him with a miraculous again.
Devin wasn't even fazed by Ladybug's rant. The whole time she's lecturing him he is all like ("Yeah, don't ask me to do this shit again!").
Noelle Odeja
She's best friends with Lila....need I say more? Well, alright then.
Noelle played a horror-themed practical joke on Marinette on Halloween by putting fake dismembered body parts in her locker. Immediately, Marinette made it seem like she was being "victimized all over again" and compared the prank to the ones that Chloe and Kim played on her last year despite Noelle's joke being tame compared to what those two pulled.
Marinette's "Liars and Cheaters are losers" mentality has made her unsympathetic to Noelle's family problems. Thinking that Noelle's father is a horrible person for having an affair when she doesn't know how abusive Noelle's mother is towards her husband.
Every time Noelle brings up her parents arguing at home again, the first thing that comes out of Marinette's mouth is "What did your Dad do this time?".
The scar near Ronan's eye? "He probably deserved it!" Bitch, the woman blinded him just because he was defending his son from his transphobic mother!
Noelle wore a dress to school on the ONE day a year she wears a skirt or dress (Picture Day) and Marinette won't stop telling her how she looks "better" or "prettier" in dresses and that she should wear them all the time, ignoring the fact that Noelle expressed her distaste for wearing dresses and skirts.
Since Ronan and Gabriel Agreste are old friends and Ronan does photography work for him sometimes, Marinette is always trying to exploit this to her favor by trying to convince Noelle to help her with the "Adrinette" plans. ("Uh, hell no.")
Noelle's brother, Michael, offers free nail paintings to Noelle and her friends. Naturally, Marinette is not on the friends list and thus does not get the privilege of having awesome nail polish art done on her nails like everyone else.
In retaliation, Marinette called in a fake anonymous tip to the police that Michael was in possession of illegal drugs. No surprise that the police didn't find anything but because the studio that Michael worked at knows about his history of substance abuse, he had to pass a drug test to avoid getting fired.
Though Noelle couldn't prove it, something just kept nagging at her that Marinette was responsible for the bogus report.
Ronan had gotten akumatized after having a horrible fight with his wife. Noelle was present when her father got de-akumatized and she had to listen to Ladybug give her father a speech about "forgiveness" and that he should apologize to his wife. Noelle had to summon every ounce of restraint that she had to not punch Paris's "beloved superheroine" in public.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If there was a cult club out there that was all about hating Marinette, I bet that these two would join in a heartbeat.

Miraculous Ladybug is so disappointing to think about - it could have been way better
I probably sound like an NPC at this point but I just need to get across a brief amount of the totality of the thought I've put into this mess of a show
Tumblr media
So, Miraculous Ladybug has received a wide array of critique over the years. One of the key reasons for this is the writers overblowing the characters' personalities. Marinette is a commonly cited example of this, it's okay to write a young girl infatuated with a good-looking wealthy boy, but Marinette is obviously not an example of this. To say her obsession with Adrien is unhealthy would be an enormous understatement. We all know what she's like - she's a stalker, knows everything about his routine and everything else, it's genuinely hard to put into words how insane she is without just listing off everything she's done but if you've watched the show you know what I mean. Marinette just goes way too far and the show never challenges her on what is obviously wrong behaviour, it tries to make her seem like she's just a little too boycrazy like isn't she so quirky? But it's just frustrating and wrong. Similarly, Chloe also is just way over the top, she is indisputably abusive to Sabrina, in general treats everyone horribly, and she's only gotten worse since the beginning. Every time she opens her mouth its the same old shit you've heard 1000 times it's bad to begin with but it gets so old very fast. And all the while I'm constantly reminded that show decided so deliberately to miss out on what could have been an awesome redemption arc for her, maybe they'll do that in the later seasons but like I don't have masses of hope + the show should've ended with season 5 but not with fucking GABRIEL getting redeemed are you SERIOUS??? The S5 ending is horrendously bad but that's a story for another time. There's plenty of other issues to like Adrien just... not getting anything to do and other stuff but sufficed to say: MLB has a laundry list of issues that hold it back significantly.
But there's another side to MLB: at times the show has proven that it can take itself seriously, and this is what really gets me. It's few and far between don't get me wrong but in these moments I start to see the MLB that could have been. The one I like the most is at the end of S4E3 - Gang of Secrets, Alya is with Marinette and she finally confesses the truth, that she is Ladybug. This point in the show definitely has a "calm before the storm" kind of vibe, things aren't so bad right now but it feels like it's gonna get really bad sooner or later. Marinette is the new guardian and so the pressure to keep her identity a secret is higher than ever, but she finally breaks. It's a beautiful moment and feels so real and very serious. One of either Marinette or Adrien were gonna break eventually and this felt like the perfect time to do it. MLB really could've been a serious show that had its comedic moments but knew at the right moments when to not mess around, it's disappointing there's not more like this.

two years ago i drew art to ... "celebrate" (if you can call it that) the release of fairly odder, and i was asked this question:
Tumblr media
truth was i hadn't actually watched it so i couldn't actually answer the question fairly. but now that i've actually watched it: apparently, yeah.
i wouldn't call it a masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination - it's a relatively mundane nickcom that just happens to feature cosmo and wanda. its not as funny as drake and josh or icarly, but not as terrible as sam and kat or... the... superhero nickcom? i definitely like it much better than i liked victorious. and i do think it's a lot more creative than it was initially given credit for when it first released. it doesn't come across as trying to devalue animation as a medium but rather an experiment in blending the two mediums. though the 2d animation in the series is a little wonk when it's more than just cosmo and wanda.
some jokes are really, really miss for me - but a lot do make me laugh. the acting is decent - they're certainly no emmy or oscar winners with these performances. but i really do think they're fine. campy and hammy and perfect for a nickcom. if this had come out around in the early 2000s, 2010s maybe, i could see it doing well - doing better than it did in 2022, at least. it's absurd in all the ways i personally find entertaining in a series. despite everything i see wrong with it and the ways i think it's not good, i'm liking it.
i love the way the plot is introduced adds to timmy's character - emphasizing that empathy and kindness he's always shown in the original series that i loved so much. that he wanted cosmo and wanda to look after his younger cousin he knew would struggle to adjust to a new environment, with her entire life being flipped upside down - wanting them to comfort her and be there for her during this period of her life... it reminds me why i've always loved timmy so much as a character. i love that they establish he's still a good-hearted person.
yes, timmy suddenly having a cousin is a little jarring but i always found it unrealistic that he didn't have any in the original series when he's meant to be an average kid - the average kid has a ton of cousins! - so i think her existence is a good call! sure, i wouldnt call viv or roy (viv maybe, roy definitely not) miserable enough to really need fairies the way timmy ever did, or the way chloe did, but honestly at that point i genuinely believe jorgen would be willing to let the family do what they want as long as they otherwise followed da rules and stayed out of his way. and i like the idea that cosmo and wanda can be godparents in ways that aren't the norm for other godparents anyway.
i'm also liking most of the new characters introduced in fairly odder and i could easily see them fitting into the original series! rachel and zina in particular make me laugh out loud. when they're not making weird jokes about zina's obsession with roy's scent, she cracks me up. i like the way she is confident and charismatic but also a huge obsessive weirdo, but mostly not in a way that made me uncomfortable like tootie. her back and forth with roy is actually entertaining and if she ever actually got together with him i don't think i'd mind at all. in fact maybe i'd even be a fan?
and i like how absolutely inconsiderate and uncaring and truly sick in the head rachel is - she is a bitch in the most literal sense. she barks at people. ty seems a little more considerate considering he realizes he was impulsive and should have told viv about what was going on then apologizes. but rachel is dramatic, describes herself as nuts, and selfish. she's mostly not making much of an effort to bond with viv - it's not like shes a horrible stepmother or anything, she clearly doesn't dislike viv and treats her decently. she's not antagonizing her or going out of her way to be horrible to her - but she is also nuts and rude. and she barks at people constantly. she's fucking weird and self-absorbed and i love her so much.
and roy - i love the way he mirrors timmy's character as someone who is self absorbed and tactless, irresponsible and impulsive... but ultimately extremely caring and loving. he's easy going, and easily accepts the unexpected and strange. the difference is he's exactly as popular as i think timmy realistically would have been, being a charismatic and natural leader. he's not as quick thinking and cunning as i think timmy is, but viv kind of makes up for it, i think.
viv is... a little more... normal than i was hoping for. she's fine, and i think she makes a decent foil for roy in that respect. much like i think chloe made the perfect foil for timmy. but i kind of hoped that viv's neurotic social-awkwardness and people-pleasing would be more exaggerated like chloe's was. not in the same ways, of course, it'd be boring to have an exact duplicate of chloe when roy isn't even an exact duplicate of timmy per say. but i just feel like viv was far more normal than timmy and wanda's conversation about viv being a mess lead me to believe she would be. and while i like the idea that it's cosmo and wanda's influence that helped bring her out of her shell and helped her adjust to dimmsdale, i do wish it could have been shown more.
with their parents' love of dancing and highly dramatic demeanors, combined with the characterization for their children, the whole family kind of has the vibes of a remix of early series timmy's parents, chloe, and timmy - even being in a family set-up similar to what i personally wanted to happen with timmy and chloe - but despite their similarities theyre also different enough to stand apart! i can see them being family because they're similar without being carbon copies. it's fun for me, personally, because exploring extended and blended families and the ways they can be similar and different is something that i like.
i also liked nate buxaplenty! i never liked remy, but nate was funny.
the only real objection i have is the subplot where vicky has a thing for crocker. though i guess honestly thats just because i personally always headcanoned crocker as her uncle but that's not canon so thats not really substantial grounds. the fact theres an age gap would really only be terrible if crocker actually reciprocated but he doesn't so it's weird, but honestly fine. my second instinct is to say it devalues her as a character but she had weird taste in men in the original series and she was repeatedly shown to be exactly like that when infatuated so it fits her character. i still don't like it... but its fine. could do without, though.

So according to the character page of Camilla Hombee on the Miraculous wiki, it states that in the "Miraculous Adventures", she revealed her secret identity to the public so that she would have a better chance of making it through the election.
Now, whether the comics are canon or not, or whether or not Astruc worked on them, it's still funny how they would allow this yet in certain other Miraculous topics such as "Revolution," they talk about how putting or electing the wrong person in office and them using their powers to abuse or manipulate those around them is wrong. Not saying Camilla herself did this, but it’s just fucking hilarious how Astruc bitches about Trump and Republicans are horrible POS yet he's doing the exact same thing he "claims" to be against in his own works.
It's also funny because the show loves to portray Chloe as arrogant for bragging about being a superhero, yet an actual political figure using her status as a superhero to get elected is something we're supposed to ignore.

Okay so today on tumblr I saw a post that said “the unhealthiness in pinkberry never being addressed is bad.” And in a way, I agree.
I don’t have an issue with someone saying that the unhealthiness with Brooke x Chloe should be addressed but I raise you this.
Every single be more chill ship is unhealthy except Jenna and Christine and some random other smaller ships.
So why does everyone only ever single out Chloe and Brooke when talking about unhealthiness in be more chill ships?
Boyf riends is unhealthy. First of all Jeremy just dropping Micheal whenever he wanted and not apologising unless he needed something but still being immediately forgiven? Not healthy.
Richjake is unhealthy. I love richjake but I really don’t need to go into the millions of reasons why they’d both need therapy before they can date.
Expensive headphone / rich x Jeremy (I forget the ship name) is unhealthy. I fucking hate the bully x victim trope it doesn’t make sense in any way and I know rich is different without the Squip but my point still stands.
Fucking stage dorks is unhealthy. Again, I love stagedorks when done right but they should never have ended up together. Jeremy drugging her, not taking no for an answer, never apologised and still deciding to shoot his shot and somehow she says yes?? Not super healthy in my book.
I just think it’s very interesting that the only major wlw ship in the fandom is hated on constantly for being toxic but so many of the mlm ships are just as toxic (some worse) and no one ever says anything about them.
I don’t want to chalk it up to misogyny but based on the hate Chloe gets for “being a horrible person” when it’s really not deserved at all and both rich and jeremy did worse things, it’s not looking great. (I could defend Chloe and talk about the misogyny in this fandom for hours but I’ll save that for another essay.)
This is no hate to the person who said the original statement this is constructive criticism to everyone.
If you wanna say pinkberry is toxic that’s fine but that means you have to admit almost every ship in bmc is toxic.
And if you can’t ship pinkberry because it’s toxic but you ship boyf riends, richjake etc, it’s time to look inwards.

Tell me, is there anything on Miraculous that you thought was dumb?
oh boy! an ask! yippee!!
pretty much every writing decision made the show worse I think. I literally had to put the show on x2 speed to finish it from how mad I got at every second on the show.
putting chat noir on the sidelines because this is a girl's show so they want "girl power"? dumb. he's literally in the fucking title.
putting Adrien on the sidelines in the final battle in season 5 when it's literally his fucking dad trying to revive his mom and he is the sentimonster that got her killed? WHY IS HE NOT THERE.
erasing Chloe's redemption and then arguing with the fans on twitter that you made the right decision and they know nothing about writing? dumb as hell.
the show keeps telling us Marinette is a wonderful person who's loved by everyone but she keeps acting selfishly and horribly without any consequences? like, at least be consistent. you can't say "she's so perfect and Chat is so useless!" and then have her abuse her powers the next episode to break into her crush's room, you can't have her flawed in one episode and not acknowledge it the next.
can they stop with the stalker behavior of Marinette? this is something that happens a lot of male protagonists, that they try to "get the girl" and stuff, doing it in reverse isn't progressive, it's creepy. she's getting a bit too much shit for it but she's still in the wrong, does she really need to know Adrien's schedule for the NEXT 3 YEARS?!
idk other than that they made some interesting decisions that have a lot of potential, but their execution was really underwhelming at times. there's always more they could have taken a character or pushed a plot, it feels like they make a basic outline for an episode and then refuse to deviate from it even a little even if it's getting pulled in a more interesting direction. there's a lot of wasted potential there.

// My post game Nathan is so funny because he's actually getting sober and is just like actually feeling awful for everything.
He sells out Jefferson and pleads guilty to everything. He does get a really small sentence since he's a rich white boy which... Yeah. But basically his dad really wants him to fight in court and he finally gets to tell him and Jefferson to fuck off and he FINALLY can do the right thing. He does have like reduced empathy of especially when he's unmedicated on proper meds and on more... Illicit ones. But he does genuinely feel bad about all of it. Especially Chloe and Rachel. Like he never meant to kill Chloe, he was just trying to scare her. He is just stupid af with guns and unstable. And as for Rachel, even if I personally think Jefferson killed Rachel and gaslighted Nathan into saying he did it, he still thinks he did. He was friends with her and even had feelings for her so it's just like... Something he had been running from that he just can't anymore.
As for Kate, she never attempted suicide in this verse but like... He still knows that he hurt her. He genuinely didn't think what they were doing was harmful aside from him fucking up the dosages. But seeing her reaction and stuff, he realizes it. Like it's all put into perspective especially once he finally accepts that Jefferson was just using him. Like he knows he can never undo any of it or make up for it ever. Like he killed Chloe. He contributed to Rachel's death (thinks he did it), hurt Kate horribly. Like finally being removed entirely from Jefferson and off all of the substances (I hc Nathan was using a lot. Weed, alcohol, coke, ecstasy, mdma, xanax, and whatever perscriptions he was on to make him more tame).
It's also stated in his file at school and he acts out and the experiences periods of extreme remorse. I don't think this is that different. As soon as he was taken it be just broke down and told them everything. And he didn't really do it for self preservation.

Can I just say this series has a weird way of dealing with bad/absentee parents?
Jagged left his family, that’s resolved in one episode, Juleka seems like she’s going to have issues with this whole thing- oh- wait never mind that’s resolved now
Audrey is still treated as a terrible person, but the show can’t make up its mind as to whether or not she’s abusive to her daughters or not (more like it’ll kiiiiiiiind of acknowledge it with Zoe, straight up won’t with Chloe)
The show is somehow convinced that Andre is a good father, despite the fact literally in the early seasons it shows that he doesn’t discipline his child at all and literally abuses his power to bend to their will (I do not give a single fuck about how Chloe treats him, he literally taught her to act like this, he enforced this behavior, it is always the parent’s job to discipline their child, I do not understand how some people are genuinely pinning the way Chloe acts fully on her and excusing Andre, the adult)
Gabriel… okay, the show kind of acknowledges his horrible treatment of Adrien… sometimes, it just flip flips on whether or not it will or whether or not it’s out of love (which isn’t any better, show)
Emilie… given the context clues (which I’m not sure if it’s truly context clues or just inferring based off random info in the show) isn’t a good parent either, but there’s absolutely no way she’s going to be talked about at all except when Lila reveals all the secrets

Forged au:
After dealing with so much stuff in her life, with the mask and without the mask, Marinette is so tired... she is so tired of having to tiptoe around everyone because of her secret identity, she is so so tired of dealing with Lil's lies and with the fact that even if Alya already knows that she's ladybug... She still decided to believe whatever comes out of her mouth.
Most of the class still believes Lila too, Adrien is not much of a help in that area as of currently, and then someone who supposedly is a "miraculous guardian" decided to try and take HER miraculous box from her, and with the bomb to both Cat noir and Pollen dropped on her about what actually happened with Chloe, makes her feel ever worse then she already felt...
She has no actual support system and she can't even talk to cat noir about her problems because of the stupid identity rules that are in place (and because of her fear of him becoming Chat Blanc but she would never admit that outloud... Atleast not now). She's so stressed out and overwhelmed that she's starting to find comfort in Ursa's visits and check ups
She knows it's not good that she found out she was Multi-mouse but it's better then her finding out she's Ladybug, sometimes it confuses her how someone who so blatantly shows her distaste and annoyance for her alter-ego... be so thoughtful and caring with her secret identity. Sometimes Ursa would show up on her balcony with some little gift or trinkets that 'supposedly' reminded her of her like if she knew or saw that that day was a hard and gloomy day for her. Other times she'd show up with nothing as an offering and just sit down or stand next to her, admiring the night sky, not saying anything as if she knew that on those days Marinette only needed to have someone there next to her, not talking just the presence of someone next to her... To show her and reassure her that she at least has one person there for her.
But not in any of the previous times that Ursa visited did Marinette ever cry in front of her... until today... everything that she's been piling up and locking away into the back of her mind finally explode. And she's didn't even know when she started crying, she only realized she was crying until after Ursa pointed it out through a question, she tried desperately to calm down cuz really... crying over the fact that the person you consider a friend, (at least while not wearing a mask) who for some reason reminds you so much of your old bee holder that you failed so horribly, looked so much like her when interacting with a bee, is not something you should be crying about
And it doesn't help that Ursa is so concerned about why she's crying, why is she concerned? Why is this vigilante such a better friend then the ones she's known her whole life? She shouldn't be concerned. She has other stuff to worry about. Like protecting the other temporary heros or like doing something else entirely different that doesn't include comforting Marinette.
But deep down Marinette knows that out of everyone she knows... She would prefer Ursa being the one to comfort her and then anyone else... Maybe it's for the fact that she's a bear... Bears are known for their warmth... Or maybe it's because of her secondary power that makes her feel safe enough to let go of her emotions... Ot maybe it's because she reminds her so much of Chloe Bourgeois and even if Chloe and her aren't in good terms now... She can at least be on good terms with Ursa... Like she wished fo be with Chloe
FUCKING OOF

between Chloe and Marinette, I enjoy seeing Marinette jealous rather than Chloe. Of course I'm a sucker for both but like,
Chloe being jealous is either: she'll belittle herself because of course she isn't the first choice because she's done horrible things and while she's doing her best to change, that doesn't mean she's good or nice or worthy. or despite her jealousy, she'd still support the person she loves because she doesn't wanna be selfish with them. she deserves better and assurance that she's worthy, ok? and while she tries to shrug it off by faking 'ha! me jealous? never. i am better than anyone else' she just wants to stay in her room until it goes away.
MEANWHILE
Marinette is a little competitive shit. She's the 'what is this' to 'why this?' to 'the fuck you doing bitch?!' HWBZHSBZJSJJZHSZ like as good and nice and kind as Marinette is she struggles with jealousy. Anger? She can control and calm herself after getting used to being Ladybug and not getting akumatized. Sadness? She knows the feeling too well and has learned to cope with it in more healthy manners. But jealousy? Fuck Ladybug she's pulling out a bazooka from her luckycharm lmao.
