it's funny how people will proclaim that self-diagnosis is completely invalid because it's based off your own biased self-assessment and that you need to see a doctor to get an accurate diagnosis, when in reality 9 times out of 10 when you see a mental health "professional" all they do is listen to your personal account of your symptoms for 15 minutes and then shove you into an arbitrary box that the Psychiatry Gods(tm) decided is appropriate and shove pills down your throat based on that biased/inaccurate assumption
#anti psychiatry#antipsych#mad pride#mad liberation#antipsychiatry#i mean honestly it's better if we just do away with diagnostic categories as a whole in the first place#but still this view of doctors as holier than thou unbiased robots who know you better than yourself#just pisses me off

an ame with which it's debatable whether he knows (probably, distantly.) or acknowledges (no) that he's a little *squeak* in the brain but it really throws him off balance when others notice . but he's not subtle... i think you go grocery shopping with him and he's very obviously turning things around to read the back but if he feels like you're staring he starts overheating. 20 minutes later he's still thinking about it and goes "haha yeah did i tell you im allergic to somethingxylathamine-B and gotta check everything for it? that's why i was doing that. by the way. if you were wondering." but you already forgot what he's referring to...
#ed ment tw#i don't think this is often a big deal for him though. except when it has to be (unignorable suffering).#if it's ever a big deal for someone else he'll kill them both#slop#lore#aph america#there are many factors at play here which makes this fun to me. there's also a sensory aspect. and also a silly anime girl who likes burger#this might mysteriously disappear later ooo who knowsss ooooo mysteriousss#i assign him ednos realness to keep him on his toes.#if there was a pattern or steadiness to his actions he’d get used to it which would make this less miserable#surprise ame you get a diagnostic (ame seethe) and you get the vague “something is wrong buddy” diagnostic (ame harder seethe)#(well no he doesn't because he doesn't get psych'd. haha dude what do you mean. he's totally fine. he's awesome)#throws this and runs in the opposite direction and hides#emeto cw#also#myart

wanna ask how you feel about the eridan bpd headcanon/theory(?? not sure what to call it!) you're so good at your character analysis and i'd love to see your outlook on it
Since I don't have a degree or any formal training in psychology, I feel deeply uncomfortable diagnosing characters. I've made an autism joke before but only because I'm on the spectrum. He's definitely traumatized and anxious, but I mean those as descriptors of his behavior rather than capital-D Diagnoses. I try to focus on those when I can - the cause and effect of cognition, self-image, and behavior - and those factors may very well match up with DSM criteria, but I try not to touch an actual diagnosis with a ten foot pole unless the author has explicitly stated that X character has Y condition.
#there's a variety of reasons for this#part of it is that im GROSSLY unqualified to be handing out diagnoses when it takes a full on PhD to do that in real life#part of it is that psychology is inchoate and we are still very much in murky waters#for example: complex ptsd isn't even IN the DSM yet#and iirc my therapist told me it was because theyre still figuring out how to classify it (attachment disorder? trauma disorder? etc.)#part of it is that (from my limited and undereducated understanding) there are diagnoses that you can assign by completing a checklist...#but some that require a hell of a lot more testing and ruling out other potential causes#and the cluster-b personalities are (IIRC) not even ones you're supposed to diagnose minors with#bc of fears of self fulfilling prophecy and because minors in general are still developing personalities In General#and like the fact that i can't say that with authority speaks to how unqualified i am to do any diagnosing right? hahaha#and part of it is just because like#unless the story is specifically About That and the author has stated so explicitly#i think diagnosing characters tends to put blinders on analysis#like if i were to seriously go 'eridan is autistic' then it would massively bias my reading and understanding of his character#and we have 0 indication that eridan was ever explicitly intended to be autistic or that the author was trying to do an autism specifically#that doesn't mean that the reading is invalid because like thats what death of the author means#all readings are technically valid including stuff the author didn't necessarily intend#but that's just not the way i like to engage with media and not the way i like to approach character analysis#because PERSONALLY it just feels kind of reductive - but also -#i'd wager MOST of us don't have degrees in psychology#so when i say 'X character has Y condition' it might mean something totally different to somebody reading my analysis#even people who have Y condition aren't exempt because a lot of mental illnesses differ from person to person#whereas if i explain “X character has Y thoughts and Z behaviors” there's no ambiguity in that#eridan struggles with noticing that people are suffering and with realizing that he should care#at least part of this is due to his horrific murder-filled upbringing which rendered empathy a detriment & so he learned to ignore it#it could be autism - but it could also be trauma -#or he might just be Like That without actually meeting the diagnostic criteria for autism#& you can't even technically be diagnosed with C-PTSD#or maybe he has a burgeoning personality disorder but you aren't supposed to DX those too early anyway#or maybe hes just 13. see what i mean hahaha. ive reached the 30 tag limit

i kind of hate to say it because i feel like i'll get pushback for it,,, but i kind of feel like if you're going to be making informational posts about autism online you do need to be reading actual autism research and literature. at least some of the times. like you can't just make things up and then present them as fact.
#N posts stuff#i guess as a defense the post i'm vaguing about doesn't actually attempt to Completely redefine a trait; just partially redefine it#but 'literal interpretation' in autism does Not refer to ambiguity in question answering. it does mean literal interpretation#very notably if you read Anything about autistic kids you'll see examples of them#fumbling with metaphorical and non-literal language.#a girl being told she can 'walk on ahead' and confusedly trying to flip herself upside down to Walk On Her Head#a kid being taught how to use a knife being told he should curl his fingers in 'like a cat's paw' and getting mad because#he has human hands and Not cat's paws.#kid being told he wears his heart on his sleeve and angrily arguing that his heart wouldn't beat properly outside of his chest#you can't just say 'well i loved wordplay so they must mean something else when they talk about this' they don't.#i notice a lot of that kind of. flattening? of autistic traits online and it can start to get a little frustrating#like dont' get me wrong i don't exactly hold the psychiatric field in high esteem but i feel like if you're using their diagnostic#terminology you kind of Have to play in the diagnostic criteria that those terms define. you can't just rewrite it entirely#the psychiatric field still exists so their framework is what you have to work under if you're using their terms#don't misunderstand me i'm not protesting against self-diagnosis or anything like that. i was self-diagnosed for years before i got my DX#but like. you also can't just rewrite the diagnostic criteria because you want to make a certain argument.#at a certain point you just sound incredibly misinformed. or like you're just outright lying...#or at least trying too hard to extrapolate your personal experience to the broader community in ways that Don't Fit.#yeah the diagnostic criteria might be in some ways inaccurate and biased but. you can't really just Make Up your own and claim#that's what they Really Meant all along. it doesn't make sense.#<- guy being too pedantic for its own good but. i mean. i don't know what we expected.

Hey! Friendly reminder that if you use AI to “make art” or “write” a book and/or fanfiction, I want you to know that I think you’re a bad person! And no! You can’t change my mind(:
By using generative AI to push slop out into the world because you think it’s “too difficult” to learn how to write or create art, you make it clear that you do not value the labor of creatives. The reality is that you’re too fucking lazy to put in the countless hours it takes to become good at your craft. It means you don’t value the work of creatives whose work is being stolen.
Fuck you if you use generative AI. I hope you never know a day of peace in your life 🥰
#fuck ai#fuck ai everything#fuck ai writing#fuck ai art#rant#you know who you are#tech bros ruin everything#you are a mediocre piece of shit if you use generative ai#idc if that’s mean#fuck off#why aren’t we using AI to review diagnostic imaging to make sure a radiologist didn’t miss something malignant?#AI is also horrible for the environment just btw

top 3 of your biggest kins and why!!
Yayayay someone sent me an ask !!!
Sorry for my lack of response! Will get to it now!
Also I assume you mean fictionkin - sorry if you didn't!
Luz Noceda
Dvdhnfjdjd WHERE DO I EVEN BEGIN? I've been so fucking obsessed w her and could relate to her WAYY too much since I started watching. Just... Ugh. So much of it. Being "the weird kid", inconsistent and lackluster grades / performance, being overly obsessed with a specific franchise (though mine come and go and return every few weeks lol), having a mom who really cares about you and wants the best for you and has had similar experiences growing up and being isolated or cast out but accidentally made you feel like you had to conform because that's what she kinda had to do??? idk but still encourages her child's true self and feels super guilty Abt it all yada yada. having little to no friends (I have one! (Speaking of offline) before visiting the demon realm. Fanfic writer (I never have the patience or motivation to finish anything I start though), being impulsive, not knowing whay you wanna be, being into witchcraft, feeling like you're somewhere where you don't belong (the human realm) and would gladly escape into a whole different realm, Bisexual (I'm questioning this though), gender nonconforming, being told that you just have to "apply yourself", insecure, similar clothing style, considers herself a "dummy", poor attention span for things she's uninterested, indecisive, etc etc, THIS SCENE THIS SCENE THIS SCENE
(ps the way camilla hovered her hand above the screen / luz when she saw how sad she was 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺)
It's just. Everything.. I remember the first time I watched it I was like "Luz is so me in almost every single way. Except she makes a ton of eye contact, I don't rly do that" lmao... I would rewatch s1 and S2 on loop every day for the whole summer, I am NOT exaggerating. I rly love TOH I'm so.glad I got the opportunity to watch it and it means sm to me and I keep rewatching the scene from thanks to them and auhggjt.
"all I ever wanted... Was to be understood!" HEJDJFJDIDJRUJDJEKF DJJFFJNFB FIKF
AARON MITCHELL
oh my GOD when I saw this movie for a few days I'd cry sm just bc of how much I related.to him. He chews his shirt. I used to do the same when I was twelve and a bunch of my shirts had holes and still have holes but I stopped and now I just grid my teeth instead lmfao and they hurt ouch. a piece of gum is a lifesaver for.me. He's OBSESSED with dinosaurs - for me it's not dinosaurs specifically but like I've said earlier I tend to get OBSESSED with things way too much to the point everyone knows me for that thing. He's implied to have ZERO FRIENDS before meeting Abby who shares his obsession w dinosaurs (just like me and my one n only friend fr) (why do I keep getting attached to characters who previously had zero friends wtf.) LOVES to talk Abt his interest. Obsessive. Shy. Awful social skills. Takes things too literally sometimes. Calls his dad father sometimes cuz why not ("Thank you, father." after he gave him his phone back "just as promised" (except he broke it in pieces but he.kept his promise so aaron doesn't care lmao.) carries a notebook and pencil w him randomly?. his older sibling and parent argue abt the siblings college choices and you're just forced to watch and the tension is rising and you're feeling anxious and Uhm yeah. SOMETIMES KINDA ROBOTIC IN HIS SPEECH? I've noticed? Blunt. Has a TON of things related to his obsession. (For me I have primarily a tonshit of sonic themed things.) dislikes being alone. Dislikes admitting his feelings. Nerd. Uses obsession as a way to understand, contextualize and communicate with the world and his surroundings. Also chews his fingers. Always wearing sweatpants. Fidgety. Ect etc. Just lile arhghfhfng. HIM.
Things I don't relate to - wearing shoes in bed. What the actual fuck Aaron. Also he wears socks. I don't do that unless I'm nailed down to the floor until I succumb to their nonsensical rules. Ok they KINDA make sense but I don't like them. I don't care that my shoes or feet will smell afterwards get those fucking socks away from me.
. anyway sorry. There's probably more but yeah I forgot. I actually got the urge to cry when just thinking about him a couple of times. Like wowza dawg he's just like me fr and I mean it. I can really really relate to him and I act a lot like him and I acted even more like him when I was about his age and was obsessed with exclusively sonic for like a year straight. lol
Enderman
Ok this one's a short one but yeah I can relate to them. They're just minding their own business, in their own piece, picking random things off the ground (or ground itself..), DESPISE eye contact and will get really violent if you make eye contact with them (I am not exaggerating I actually get really angry and uncomfortable with uninitiated eye contact from ppl I'm not comfy with like don't look at me stop looking at me stop looking at me.) makes random sounds sometimes, such as screeches and hisses. Unlike them I DO like water and I LOVE rain HOWEVER I DO NOT LIKE touching smaller amounts of water on surfaces where I don't expect water to be and get really grossed out and uncomfortable from it. Unless they're with their own kin they're just kinda going around, alone, minding their peace unless provoked. Like most mobs - both hostile and peaceful - acknowledge your existence, hostile ones attack you, peaceful ones like horses and sheep and pigs and wolves and cats and whatnot may look at you if you look at it and pay attention to you and some can be befriended, enderman is neither like them, they're minding their own business, they don't initiate contact like, ever, and only engage w the player when having to defend themselves... when feeling threatened EVEN if the player didn't mean to scare them, like idk I'm.noy.really used to strangers having good intentions with me so I get defensive easily .... that is irl, on the internet I definitely don't get ever scared from social interactions ahaha 😎 yeah.
So yeah the only thing I KINDA can't relate to is not liking water - I only dislike water in a very specific context so yeah. And I do make eye contact w family members usually like I've mentioned earlier - I don't know, do endermen make eye contact with each other? I'm not sure, I don't remember. There might be more to them that I relate to but I can't recall anything at the moment
Everything I've mentioned about these characters in This post - I can relate to. These are just my feelings put imperfectly into words.... but I feel a lot about them and have felt a lot about them for quite some time.
Ducbfjrj there's also a list of characters I relate to (link in intro post) but these were the ones I related to the most
#asks#Minecraft#tmvtm#toh#luz noceda#aaron mitchell#enderman#anyway i just remembered all three of them are commonly hced as autistic.#coincidence? pretty sure yeah#idk i dont remember the diagnostic criteria rn i can relate to a lot of things but that doesnt necessarily mean I'm autistic#I've questioned depression before. o dont think thats the case eitjrr.#idk. i aint no professional#but yea i doubt i am is all im saying#ok bye

#my comic is not a diagnostic tool!!#why do people keep doing this#me: my autism is behind this behavior#concave heads online: i do this and am not autistic. which means it is not an autistic behavior. sorry to break it to you sweaty.

i have bad news for anyone who expects mental illness to be family friendly
^ yeah!
#thats a pretty good summary of it.#ask#anon#arsenic#ok ill rant about the au and mentall illness— nick's not diagnosed with anything. doesnt mean he doesnt#- /have/ anything.#mostly im thinking npd and bpd but this dude just. is not self aware at all. nobody ever told him. oops#im also giving him low empathy because i'll give low empathy to any character im obsessed with#(read: im projecting) (same way im making sunny trans. have i ever mentioned sunny's trans in this AU)#anyway. sunny's autistic but ive said that one before#nick is a psychiatrist's wet dream i think.#for the record i dont think people with npd or bpd are evil. im not evil. my friends are not evil#this AU doesnt exist to be good representation! sorry#anyway narcissistic abuse is not a real thing and aspd was made up by psychiatrists who thought that surely people being violent-#- means they're mentally ill. they based the diagnostic criteria off of criminals. the dsm is made up and none of this is real#i could rant about the way PDs are treated for hours. do NOT give me an opportunity to do so#this AU is not good rep but if someone starts calling nick a psychopath or a sociopath i will bite !#omori#rant

My therapist told me today that just because you don’t meet a criteria made by a bunch of white men doesn’t mean that your traits of a disorder don’t dramatically affect your life.
In case someone needs to hear this, she’s right.
#it also doesn’t mean you shouldn’t work on improving how you cope with those traits either!!#narcissistic traits#npd traits#autistic traits#the narcissistic tendencies in me are loving that I was right about being narcissistic lol#therapy#cluster b traits#diagnostic criteria#psych critical

Groupmate: oh.

#for context: practical exam is 47 reactions you have to know by heart#and by 'reactions' I mean 'multi step diagnostics methods'#and we're coming right off of a module control which had the equivalent of exam materials of information and left everyone exhausted#I had three separate mental breakdowns last night trying to study because my nervous system was exhausted and the words just didn't. fit.#i know the first twenty well and some of the later ones but that's not nearly enough and we're taking it with our prof which is worse than#the rest of them (other groups get help because stressed med students+ anthrax is not a good combo) and we won't#finals#pre finals#i wanna die#med student#medical school#med school shenanigans

You know, when they said “you never stop learning things about yourself” I don’t think they meant five consecutive years of having a new identity crisis.
#sophomore year of high school: am I queer/aroace? yes#junior year of high school: am I trans? yes#senior year: am I autistic? almost certainly yes (that’s just me having imposter syndrome it’s definitely a yes)#last year: not questioning anything just coming to terms with being physically disabled#and now my friends are saying I have hpd and I’m like hey just because I maybe (the wording is vague and I’m autistic and I hate it) fit the#diagnostic criteria doesn’t mean I HAVE IT#it’s vague and idk how much I relate to it but I relate to a decent amount of it very strongly#but like I wasn’t even neglected as a child (that sentence really says volumes abt my friend group) I have other family issues but idk how#that would be related to attention seeking like is it really just all bc I was just a really lonely child?#like I was an only child with autism and adhd and I didn’t have a friend group I felt truly secure until fifth grade after which we all went#to different middle schools and then it wasn’t until like sophomore year of high school okay maybe this is worse than I thought saying it#out loud…#I know I have anxious attachment#I know I very much have that#but like.#I’m just a theater kid it’s fi- *sounds of me being hit with a pillow by my friends*#yeah#this is kind of a vent atp#autism#neurodivergent#disability#yeh#the heir speaks

maybe i'm missing something here, but it always confuses me when i see things like "some autistic people are disabled by their autism and some aren't" or "not everyone sees their autism as a disability". because... autism very much is a disability?! if you're autistic, then your symptoms must be present in a way that is disabling to you in your everyday life. it's literally in the diagnostic criteria. of course the extent to and areas in which you're disabled can vary greatly depending on the individual, but disability is part of the basic definition of autism, regardless of your personal feelings on the matter.
don't get me wrong, it's still much better than "autism is only a disability because of capitalism" because at least it doesn't make sweeping generalisations that aren't even remotely accurate to the lived reality of most autistic people. but it still perpetuates incorrect assumptions under the guise of personal choice, and honestly feels like an attempt to distance autism from disability in general. being disabled is nothing to be ashamed of, and i wish people wouldn't twist the meaning of autism to remove disability from it.
(and yes, that goes for level 1/low support needs autistics as well. i would be considered level 1 (though i wasn't diagnosed that way) and i'm still disabled by my autism! not to the same extent as many other people, sure, but i'm still disabled. if i wasn't, i wouldn't be autistic.)
#autism#actually autistic#actuallyautistic#what the hell. i'll put this in the main tags#i just don't understand what personal feelings have to do with this. autism literally *is* a disability thats a fact#(okay obviously the diagnostic criteria were created by humans and humans are fallible etc.#but if we extend the definition of autism so far beyond its original meaning then would autism even be a useful term anymore?)#stuff like this always leaves a bad taste in my mouth because it reeks of internalised ableism#i dont want to tell anyone how to identify. but if youre insisting that your autism isnt a disability even though by its very definition#it is - idk ive been in a similar position in my teens and finally acknowledging that i'm disabled and that doesnt make me any less worthy#as a person has made me more compassionate towards myself and others#it just worries me how autistic people on here are trying to pass off their autism as 'just quirky' or whatever#like if you genuinely are just quirky then thats fine! but if you arent disabled by it then i'm sorry but its not autism#i guess its kinda similar to how i dont *dislike* the word neurodivergent per se. but it sure feels like at least some people are using it#so they dont have to say mentally disabled#disability is not a dirty word

my therapist spent today's session making Faces at me about getting an ADHD diagnosis
which
I can honestly say I have never seriously considered the possibility of seeking an ADHD diagnosis but she might not be a billion miles off
I was describing how I get "fizzy bored" where I have no energy or ability to move and nothing holds my attention but I feel like my bones are trying to vibrate out of me with the desire to be Doing Things and she was like 🤔 and I got onto the fact that I often need to be doing 3-4 things at once to ease into focusing on one and she was like 🤨 and then I mentioned how I find it really difficult to start doing things but once I'm in it I'm super focused and she was like 😌 have you considered the possibility of an ADHD diagnosis?
and so I explained that I don't really see the point because even though, unlike EDS and autism, a diagnosis could suggest an actual treatment, I don't really feel like anything I've described is disabling me cause I have the tools to manage it now most of the time and I feel Fizzy Bored WAY less often these days. and she was like 🤨
and I was like yeah to be fair actually I did use to think that about chronic pain, trauma and having shit eyesight and doing something about them did really change my experience. and she was like 😌 and I was like and actually now we mention it the fact that I sometimes for NO REASON AT ALL simply put off doing things even though they would be really easy to do and I want to do them for LITERAL YEARS is maybe. A thing that it might be nice to change if I could. And she was like 🤔 and I was like OH FUCK I'M GOING TO HAVE TO GENUINELY CONSIDER THIS POSSIBILITY AREN'T I?
anyway after talking a mile a minute and overrunning by 15 minutes I then got a quarter of a mile away on foot and realised I'd left my glasses on her table. she opened the door I went HEY SPEAKING OF ADHD
#red said#tbf that last bit is only funny jokes. i mean i did do that but that is not one of the marks in the ADHD??? column#i am not a habitual leaver behind of things i generally do a full check#but also here's the issue I'm having#(apart from the fact that the tiktokification of ADHD has really muddied the waters on what is or isn't a likely indicator)#the issue is i am REALLY GOOD at coping mechanisms and workarounds. like SO GOOD. so i am goofy but I'm legit not scatterbrained#and i am. to quote a past manager. 'frighteningly efficient'.#but there is no doubt that i have legit issues with time blindness#thought permanence. like if i do not write something down in a place where i can see it regularly i will forget it.#and i WILL stop seeing it if it doesn't change enough or if i have to go out of my way to look at it#and yeah like the whole inertia and energy disregulation stuff is. it's not nothing.#and i am SO MAD that she might have a point and tbh i don't even know why I'm that mad about it#other than that having diagnoses of CPTSD autism and adhd would feel like the Internet Diagnostics Starterpack i guess. feels basic.#i dunno man it's dumb brain stuff it's not rational! that's a dumb reason to reject an idea even if it was a legit complaint which it is no#also i have been really giddy and hyper this evening and idk if that's bc I've had some manner of breakthrough thing or I'm just suggestible
