RRverse Summer Bang FAQ
hey y’all! i know there are more than a few people interested who haven’t participated in a big bang before, so i wanted to answer some general questions! feel free to send asks or reply to this post with any other questions you have after this.
this is a basic one, but still very important: what is a big bang event?
there are a few different types but the basics are that a writer will write something to reach a minimum word count, the artist will create something based off of the written piece, and the beta will provide feedback and concrit to the writer. the artist and the beta will get to choose which writer they want to work with, and i’ll explain that process once we get to that step of the event. big bang events typically last for a few months, so everyone has enough time to create something awesome. they are also a great way to make fandom friends :D
can i fill more than one role?
yep! if you are an artist and a writer and you want to write and draw for this event, or if you want to write and beta, or any other combination, that would be amazing! make sure to indicate that on the interest form by checking more than one box for that question.
i’m a writer, will you provide prompts or can i write whatever i want?
you can write whatever you want! using a prompt from somewhere else, coming up with your own idea, doing an au, anything goes as long as you meet the word count and follow the rules, both of which will be up later.
i’m an artist, will i be forced to make art for a piece i don’t like?
hopefully not! you’ll be able to pick and choose which story you want to create art for later on, and you will have several months to create a piece if you want to ruminate over ideas.
i’m a beta, but i’ve never betaed before. what is it, exactly?
beta-ing basically means proofreading and providing feedback for the writers. some writers like a more critical beta who can point out certain things that work or don’t work, and others like betas that can assess overall vibes and quality. it will depend on which writer you choose to work with, and once you are paired i would recommend asking them what they want you to look for! you can read this fanlore article for more info if you want.
that’s all i can think of right now, but once again feel free to ask me questions, and make sure to fill out the interest form!!

Hello friend !! I’d like to request a ship for BTS please ? I’m an Aries sun, Virgo moon, Aries mercury, Taurus venus, Aries mars, and a Capricorn jupiter ! Thank you for taking the time to do this! Hope you’re having a great day. ❤️
Suree, Aries sun with virgo moon, honest and passionate yet can be a perfectionist and organized. With your virgo moon you are very organized and attentive to the details surrounding your interests and passions/goals, as aries sun show you are a bright learner with good morals. Your aries mercury show you are direct in providing your opinions and thoughts, and there is some admiration from others of your strong perception of things and astuteness derived from your sun and moon placements. Taurus venus shows you desire security and comfort/trust in someone, someone that is reliable that you can put your faith in. You may be a bit slow in initiating stuff or just may wait and see at times, and you are generally warm and kind to your loved ones and close ones. Aries mars prompts you to be driven and passionate in where you may put your heart in the things you love to do/goals/interests. Like fire burning endlessly once latching on to the targetted wood/grass. I won’t do jupiter since this analysis description will be too long to read 😅✨🐥
In Bts... your match is Jimin~
Tumblr media
Jimin is sweet, understanding, and has a keen eye for details. With his libra sun gemini moon this creates a very intelligent combo that can easily learn new crafts/skills. The parallels of aries and libra are back at it again~ As Jimin’s calm and reasonable logic may amaze your straightforward analytical approach. Virgo and gemini are both ruled by mercury, so both of these ppl can process and learn to pick up info easier, with their brain constantly being active. If placed in a scenario, you both admired each other in the same building/school. Jimin was very eloquent and had people skills, while you were very bright and passionate about the things you learn with a constant yearn to help others. Jimin admired your kind heart, and found the contrasting strong spirit within to be charismatic. Your admiration towards Jimin stemmed from his logicality yet natural intellect, everything Jimin did sorta made your heart skip.
Tumblr media
First off, let’s talk about Jimin’s moon~ Gemini moon, Jimin can be very sharp at picking things up and with his mental power capacity, he is inherently smart and it goes past academic lengths. I would say Jimin can be people smart like having social skills and discerning things, as well as having better ability to accomplish new skills/tasks given. With Jimin’s libra sun, he may be more cheerful and easier to get along, but that doesn’t mean that he is inherently oblivious or just an angel, he a sharp-witted angel 😇. With your virgo moon, you appreciate his strong mentality, and you two may make for a very smart and communicative pair. Virgo moon’s analytical nature allows them to dissect information and intake it easier when they are focusing on the certain topic, and with gemini moon’s quick learning nature ppl usually would be in awe when they work together in a project or partners for an assignment, cuz the big brain power and chemistry between u two is very entertaining to others (in a good way). (This might be the case due to virgo and gemini’s ruling planet both being being mercury the planet of communication) Witty banter is a must and tbh, you two secretly enjoy it cuz each others remarks and comebacks hit the nail usually towards each other, and adoration and admiration is present in this connection.
Tumblr media
Next up, his mercury is in libra~ Yea your mercury aries is opposite to his mercury libra on the zodiac wheel, however like they say opposites attract. His mercury in libra is adept at communicating and socializing, these can make for a charismatic or easygoing person that can take social cues/sociability to the next level. That doesn’t mean Jimin isn’t smart of choosing his words, libra mercury ppl are rational through the choices of their words and decisions, and they do think quite often when they need to. Your aries mercury may seem more going headfirst before thinking and is honest and clear of your own opinions. However as aries and libra are sister signs in the zodiac, they both have similar qualities that are executed differently. Your aries mercury may be labeled as brash, but your assertiveness comes with intelligence of your own beliefs and perceptiveness. Aries people are quick to make decisions instead of pondering because they know what they want or choose quicker than others, and that shows their inner intelligence. You both will contribute to having different takes on actions and your point of views, Jimin can balance out with his slow methodical take on things, and you can provide your honest thoughts. You two would be very communicative and this creates a close connection that is capable deep personal conversations.
Tumblr media
Also, Jimin’s venus is in scorpio! Your taurus venus and his scorpio venus are opposite to each other, and both are fixed signs. Fixed signs are less reluctant towards change, are known for their reliability, devotion and loyalty. Despite some differences of your love style and desires such as Jimin being more intense and with a sense of passion that has to be felt at times, and your desires being a bit “simple” at times. Maybe you desire simply comfort, stability, and peace within the relationship and at times Jimin’s scorpio venus can clash with this too peaceful approach at times. However, the positve aspects/similarities outweigh this predicament. Jimin is more assertive/flirtatious towards you that may give you the little push to express your affection and love back more comfortably. You both are loyal, so you both would be very commited to each other and not have trust issues, and you both balance each other out with taurus’s calmness and Jimin’s deep feelings at times. You rely on each other a lot through your close chemistry, and sometimes things can get a bit 🌹🔥✨ well we keeping it pg-rated...
Tumblr media
Lastly, his mars is in scorpio. His drive comes from his passion and strong focus towards his professions and interests. Your aries mars and his scorpio mars are both passionate about their respective interests/hobbies. You two would enjoy working together and putting your efforts when doing a project or just understand each others work ethics well. You both are quite assertive about the things you prioritize and future goals, so I think Jimin would appreciate your professional and cool attitude during when your serious. You both are playful and can be flirty, but I think Jimin takes it to the next level lol, oh those flirty winks and smiles.
Overall, you two are like the pair that are also the closest critics and friends to each other, the inherent closeness and realness is evident, you two are best friends and lovers at the same time you could say :3  vibe energy -> 💖✨🥳️👥🌻🍿🌹✨🔥🌠🌌✨

okay here r my final thoughts on hadestown now that I have calmed down:
i liked the line “it’s a sad song but we’re gonna sing it anyway” from the moment I heard it, but after listening to the full show it really makes me think about why exactly someone would listen to something they know is tragedy again? and why I myself, specifically, am 100% down to relisten to the whole thing again? I think, when we listen to tragedies, they don’t make you feel anything more than something happy does. and also media that creates sad endings just for shock value and because happy endings are perceived as childish is actually kind of harmful. With Hadestown, the tragedy is already understood because of the myth it’s based off of, so the challenge for the creators was to make the tragic ending more than just sad for the sake of sad. And they succeeded! The tragedy throughout the show and the end is always paired hand in hand with hope and a message of the resilience of the human spirit. This makes the ending meaningful and the whole story worthwhile!! I’d listen to it again because of the strong sense of hope despite everything interwoven in the show! Even in the horribly tragic ending, there’s hope for Persephone & Hades and hope for the workers in the Hadestown. I think it’s wonderful that it could deliver so hard in commentary on tragedy and hopeful human spirit at the same time!!
everyone’s voice is so good and distinct!! shout out to Hades for genuinely freaking me out (he sounds like a Disney villain!), Eurydice for having so much emotion in her voice all the time, and the fates for sounding so cool
my favorite songs are wait for me, wait for me reprise, uhhh whatever that super cute song where they talked about going home together was called (too lazy to google), all the chants, and wedding song (which I’ve mentioned in like. every other post :P)
since I love it so much I’m going to talk about wedding song!!! leave this post while u can!! also I’m listening to it right now lol. first of all, disclaimer, i usually don.t really like romances in anything because 9/10 times they (usually white and/or straight ones) are less based on genuinely loving each other and appreciation, but some weird sort of resentment and “fiery” arguing? which is supposed to be cute? anyways Eurydice and Orpheus avoided that trap and i love that about them. they had obvious chemistry and even before the whole “going to hell to pick up my wife! >:|” thing you could tell how much they loved each other. and one of the things about the show is how very opposite Orpheus and Eurydice are in how they see the world, which is partly what leads to the conflict in the first place. (and leads to her doom in the end, which I wrote another post about) Wedding song is a brilliant first example of how their dynamic is gonna be and how their personalities will mesh together under the guise of a goofy flirty song. Eurydice is talking about very real concerns (and using the wedding as an example) like food, money, and shelter (does the wedding bed count as this? pretend), and Orpheus's reply is complete faith in the song providing something they need pretty much immediately, despite having not finished it yet. But he does believe this! and he’s trying impress her which is just. so cute. and her awe at what the song does and her transition from doubt to genuine excitement at the end is so sweet! (who else saw that 40 second clip of the OG cast singing this? the way she bounces towards him at the end ;–; I’m emo) this song is also a perfect example of, despite their drastically different views, they want to support and love each other! they’re so sweet
I love the whole vibe of the album. it sounds so lively and I love all the harmonies!!
“don’t come on too strong“ “who are you?“ “the man that’s gonna marry you!!!!” > every other couple’s first meeting
I love the entire concept so much that I don’t know how to articulate it. It’s like I found something that caters exactly to my interests and what I find to be important messages all in just 2 hours. just. this whole story y’all. I love the concept of hadestown and this modernish take on everything and how it’s sorta based on the 1929 crisis and all the things about poverty and freedom and love and hope and tragedy and all the “wait for me”s and ughhhhhhh
I’m so impressed that I feel like I got so much without seeing the show and just listening to it!! Obviously seeing it would be more fulfilling but I really don’t feel like I’m missing anything!!
the fact that Hades's disconnect with Persephone was partly due to him creating an industrial revolution to impress a garden/springtime goddess and how he tried to make it hot with lamps because she misses the sun and how he picks her up early because he doesn’t have the trust in her that Eurydice and Orpheus share and how the song that set the world back in tune is a song about them— this show is very smart and I don’t have enough brain cells to analyze this properly!!!
everything about the workers and how Hades manipulated them and how Orpheus got them to question their situation and how they put all their hope in Eurydice and Orpheus making it out :’(
I love how everyone had such a distinct personality!!
I think Eurydice is always (usually) played by a WOC? I think it’s nice how they have someone like her as the prominent love interest in a show that’s on Broadway
Shoutout to the YouTube commenters who explained that Orpheus was getting beaten up (I want u all to know that my phone just corrected that to eBaying) during papers. poor dude
I love all the la la la melodies!! I mean during the chant I was internally screaming at him to stop la la la-ing and get his wife some food tho >:[
someone pls tell me what the flower is suppose to symbolize and when he gets it!! is it just a cute gift for Eurydice or is it something else? the internet has informed me that it is either a carnation or a poppy, is there any official info on this?
Uhhh that’s all I think? shoutout to the anon who told me about the tony’s performance!!! you’re amazing thank you!!
also thanks to anyone who gave me info about it!!!

Our Hunter: The Vigil 2nd Edition Kickstarter is a few days before we hit the final week, and we just passed 300% funding and over 1500 backers! Thanks for all the support out there, and be sure and talk this up if you get a chance.
Every time you can send somebody over to the KS, that’s another person who can connect to more folks who haven’t heard about it yet. And so on, and so on, and so on.
Another place where we could use our community doing a bit of outreach is letting game stores know that they can get V5 Chicago By Night into their stores. If you have a local game store, please tell your stores Chicago is available via distribution. Even if you personally already have it or aren’t interested, if you can ask them to request V5 Chicago By Night from their distributors, then that also raises awareness of all of the Onyx Path books currently available from distribution for stores.
The reason I’m pushing this is that now, right as the book is just becoming available in stores, is when we want to be able to provide it to everybody who asks. But some stores haven’t been able to get it from distribution, and others still aren’t aware they can stock it on their shelves.
Part of this is that in the US, V5 Chicago is being handled by our friends at Studio2, while outside the US distributors get the books from the gang at Modiphius. So even distributors need to talk to the appropriate folks.
We understand that the sort of mixed scenario for sales is not a straight line for anybody, but for our community, it’s what we need to do to get more books into stores so you can get them there – as well as online.
Mythical Denizens art by Pat McEvoy
It’s especially confusing if you are a long-time fan who came from the days when White Wolf controlled all aspects of the books – from creation right until they showed up in stores. We even had a warehouse that the books shipped out from that was connected to our offices.
This was really good for inventory control, and even better because we could play Four-Square in the warehouse until we got too big for there to be enough space to play among the pallets!
But, things have evolved, and the new White Wolf at Paradox is giving a lot of different folks the chance to create new awesome projects for the WoD setting with 5th Edition. This ties in well with our further efforts at putting certain books into stores, and expanding the sorts of projects that fans will be able to enjoy, it’s just not a straight line any more.
Another factor confusing some folks is that our publishing efforts consist of some of the lines folks recognize from the old WW days, and some new ones. Which, while different in some regards, is something we think is a healthy mix. Impish Ian has created this handy chart:
Hope that helps!
But, if you still have questions, please do reach out to us. You can do that here in the comments, or anywhere on our social media. For game line rules or setting info, our Forums here on the Onyx Path website are also great and we even have specific threads pinned for folks to ask questions of the developers of that line.
We are also always open to hearing from you if you need something clarified that you heard about online. We can’t be everywhere on social media, although our teams tries, and there are some pretty odd ideas floating around that we’ll be glad to give you the real deal about.
One nutty example is the rumor that Eddy owns Pugsteady (which is the true part), but then Pugsteady secretly owns Onyx Path, which secretly owns DTRPG: so Eddy owns DTRPG!
There’s also the one about CCP never actually having sold White Wolf to Paradox. Sometimes combined with the “fact” that I never stopped being employed by White Wolf and created Onyx Path to secretly still run things for them. Which is a hell of a way to spend the last 8 years, let me tell you!
Vigil Watch art by Alexander Honore
But there are also the rumors that can actually harm folks if they are spread around willy-nilly, like Onyx Path not paying our freelancers or being secretly trans-phobic, neither of which is true. Yet can impact both our current creators and also possible creators we could work with.
If you’re a long-time reader of this blog, you probably don’t need us to explain how weird these sorts of rumors are, and we love you for that! BUT, please do tell your friends to let us straighten out any concerns that they might have. They can post here, or if you’re willing, please go ahead and ask us yourself for them.
And to extend this idea, if you are one of our freelance creators, we are always here to listen to your concerns. If none of the usual project-based routes work, you can contact one of our in-house developers who oversee all of our game lines. It’s the same three folks from our weekly Onyx Pathcast: Eddy Webb, Dixie Cochran, and Matthew Dawkins. You can contact Matt McElroy, our Operations guru. All of them have contact info here on the site and are all over our social media.
And you can contact me, at [email protected]
Lunars art by Gong Studios
What I’m saying here is: it takes communication to create all of our many projects. Not just within those project teams, and not just between those teams and our other creators who also work on those projects. And not just between us and our sales partners and distributors and stores. And not just between all of us making and selling these games and our community who plays them and reads them.
It’s all interconnected and the more clearly we can communicate, the more likely we are to create even more projects for you to enjoy as we add them to our:

Teachers and Studios on Bringing Their Yoga Classes Online

If we were told a few months back that all studios would be closed, retreats cancelled and public classes banished we wouldn’t have believed it. Yoga Teachers and Studios livelihoods rely on their students to show up and when this isn’t possible, times can be worrying.  It is astounding to see the yoga industry evolve to offer classes online, whole studio timetables now available online and teachers and students working together to bring yoga to our homes when we need it most.  We caught up with some Yoga Teachers and studio owners in our network to hear about how they have adapted to the change. For those who are feeling overwhelmed by the change, we hope that this piece will lift your spirits – because we are all in this together, collectively hoping to share happiness, health and love to one another, however we can.

What are you offering? I am offering my full schedule on line, x 6 – 8 classes a week, with live streaming, donation based classes. I’m also providing some free content including short videos and some Relaxation evenings/ home retreats which I’m hoping to help as many people as possible relax, connect with their bodies, de-stress and manage anxiety. Also to provide a sense of community and move away from fear into connecting with hope, love and the best qualities of humanity. I’m also going to put together a short course – Introduction to Meditation –  for the home office – How to navigate these uncharted waters with more ease. What challenges have you faced or what have you been surprised by? I’ve been surprised at how much it’s helping people. I’m getting really positive feedback and its great to see how many people are keen to join in and embrace new technology!  I have faced a few teething issues (like muting myself accidentally half way through a class!) But each time I do it, it gets a little easier! What is your advice would you like to share to other teachers and the yoga community? If you’re a teacher, now is the time for seva, (service) and your students need you now more than ever, so do reach out to them. As teachers we have the toolkit, the science of yoga, to help them to regulate their nervous system through their breath and find space and calm amongst these crazy and uncertain times. Don’t be afraid about being on line, if its new for you, it can be challenging, but start small, maybe doing a little live, or even pre-recording a video and sharing. You don’t need loads of fancy equipment, or a huge space and it doesn’t matter what you look like, just be authentically you! Remember Done is better than perfect! So move through the self doubt as the world now more than ever, needs your yoga!  I know that many of us rely on our teaching for our income so do ask for a donation / payment if you’re offering full classes. Maybe offer smaller free offerings or donations for those who struggle financially. At this time we need to dig deep, double up on our self care and practice what we preach! If you’re a student of yoga, reach out to your teacher and tell them what you’d like them to share and how you can support each other. We don’t know how long this will go on for, so we need to all pull together and provide support for each other and the yoga community!

What are you offering? All my classes are online now – so that’s mainly yoga flows and meditations.  I’ve got something going on every day as I’m trying to keep busy and my regular clients are really needing their practice more than ever.  I’m streaming via Zoom and IGTV and my schedule is on my website. From Monday EVERY DAY at 8:30am, I’ll be offering a daily meditation and motivational video on IGTV.  I want to help people get their ducks in a row early doors, so they align with their intentions and get the most from their day.  This type of grounding work is so valuable and consistency is absolutely key. I’ve got clients that will put this on for their kids too when the schools close.  Hopefully it will set the tone for the day and give some structure to the people who follow it regularly.    What challenges have you faced or what have you been surprised by? Teaching online is TOTALLY different to teaching in real life.  I don’t think I’ve ever fully appreciated that and I’m massively out of my comfort zone!  I am learning something new with each class and it’s really giving me a sense of purpose at the moment.  It’s also given me a real respect for anyone that has ever put themselves out there online and shared this type of work.  It takes guts.   Another challenge is the logistics of course.  Generally I’m okay with tech stuff, but wouldn’t say that I’m the best, so I’m having to learn a lot on that front too.  Currently I’m taking donations for classes (from those who can afford to pay) via my website, but I know that this could be a lot slicker, so I’ll aim to refine that in the next few days.  Classes are obviously free for key workers.  I am pleasantly surprised by the way in which we’re all supporting one another.  The teaching community, small local businesses, everyone really, we’re all rooting for each other and I love that.       What advice would you like to share to the other teachers and the yoga community? Wash your hands and don’t touch your face.  Seriously though, If you’re thinking of doing something similar, DO IT!!!! You can set up streams for your regular students if you’re not comfortable with opening the net wider.  Honestly, it’s easier to set up than you think.   I’d also ask people giving completely free classes to question what that says about the value that you place on what we offer as practitioners.  For sure at the moment, there will be people who cannot afford to pay and they should not have to. But there will also be people who can afford to make a contribution and they absolutely should.  We are all turning to these practices to ease the heightened feeling of anxiety. How can that not be worth something?  Essentially, as I am learning, you just need to back yourself and get on with it.  I know teaching is a very personal and vulnerable thing, but what you offer can and will help someone.  If you have the capacity to do this, then you must, particularly in this time of need and uncertainty. I wish you all the best of health and am sending high vibes to everyone.

What are you offering? We’re offering on-line classes to all of our members. We have also created social media groups where our teachers are sharing videos and free resources. I am in the process of expanding our on-line offering with some pop up events to learn new fun skills eg. quiz night, knitting group , arts and crafts, strictly come dancing classes (learn some basic steps). A variety of activities to keep our members active and inspired. What challenges have you faced or what have you been surprised by? Technology! Communicating with members via so many different ways WhatsApp, Texts, Social groups and making sure everyone has seen the communications! Also making so many quick decisions – not knowing if they are right but no time to procrastinate – trust your intuition! I have been so surprised how important classes are to people a familiar face. How well the on-line classes have been received. I did one I loved it. Connection is so important right now. It’s amazing what we can do in a week if we have to! What is your advice would you like to share to other teachers and the yoga community? Advice – it doesn’t have to be perfect just get something up and running asap. Keep your community close, involve your Teachers, ask for help, communicate not just email get on video pick up the phone. Think what else do customers need. Kindness will go along way so think long term not short term.

What are you offering? We are running a full schedule on Zoom that is booked through mind body from Monday onwards. We started with some donation based classes on IG live for the last few days to trial out how online would work with our community. What challenges have you faced or what have you been surprised by? Really surprised by how much people wanted us to continue at home and its been so amazing the amount of support from our community and beyond practicing at such a challenging time with us and donating to help keep us alive! Challenges are things like music and how to set it up and use it online, how to see if everyone is getting what you are teaching and it is clear or the level etc in class, we hope to get some people using webcam when we go on to Zoom to combat this. What is your advice would you like to share to other teachers and the yoga community? It can be nerve–wracking especially the first couple of times, but like anything new it just takes practice and then you get more comfortable. It’s almost like a reminder of what it was like to start teaching all over again, and has you questioning everything as it’s live for the world to see! Without the ability to have live feedback from students in the room you don’t really know much till after. So really believe in yourself and what you’re doing, it can be daunting as there’s so many offerings but it’s no different to the options in person. Don’t compare yourself to other offerings online, let’s all support each other where we can and enjoy this new challenge! The 100 6x09: What You Take With You Personal Narrative
Another two week hiatus that absolutely killed me! Thank goodness for the Beliza pics from the recent con or I would absolutely be drowning! What did you guys think of the sneak peaks we got? I’m excited to see the new dynamic between Octavia and Gabriel! I also want to know if she’s faking not remembering anything or not. Plus, we get so much Bellamy/Jo!Clarke action tonight! I definitely don’t think we’ll get Clarke back this episode, but I’m hoping for 6x10 when the Blake siblings are reunited! :)
Alas, the episode is about to begin, so let’s get started:
It’s coming on! I’m so cool with Eliza introducing all the episodes.
Eliza is such a great actress. She does so well with separating her Josephine voice from her Clarke voice.
Aww... clean and young looking Octavia. Gotta love the glam that the anomaly provides!
Does Octavia really remember nothing? Seems strange....
Gabriel is pissed.....Why does he want to know so much about the anomaly?
Help....? That can’t be good
What’s in the creepy boxxxx
What the hell is Gabriel doing?
He’s going to get her.....high? Ahhh so that’s how she is going to see Bloodreina.
So the anomaly doesn’t heal...but it passes through time possibly....then erases memories? Interesting....
So there could be truth in the time travel theories that have been floating around?
Can we really trust Gabriel, though? I mean....he has been lying about who he is.
Damn....that was quick. Where can I get that stuff? Lol
Nice glowing boxes. Red light. Green light. And she decides to go towards the red? That’s such an Octavia move.
Yes, let’s pick the angry looking box that is obviously going to lead you towards your worst memories.
Marie is such a great actress. What did we do to get such great actors and actresses in this show? Did someone sacrifice a virgin or something?
Echhh.....creepy new Marcus---Marcus Kane II if you will---I do not like it! SO ICKY!
I mean....he’s hot....but....him and Abby possibly being romantic in the future is just a kinda gross concept.
Is anyone else sick of Abby? She has gone way too far.
There love story has never really been healthy in my opinion, but this is too gross and too far.
Ewww don’t kiss! Stop it! Stop it! Stop it!
Yes, everything is wrong, Marcus. People are not meant to switch fucking bodies!
Yay! Bellamy and Jo!Clarke!
Aww Bellamy can’t stand seeing Clarke in pain in any aspect.
You tell her Bellamy!
“I guess you just care about her more.” Well that is dropping some more truth bombs on Bellamy!
Commercial Break #1 Thoughts: WOW! Josephine dropping the truth bombs on Bellamy! Everyone is calling him out on this! This has got to mean something for Bellarke! IT HAS TO! We usually only get like one of these comments per season about the two of them putting each other first but.....now we’re getting this like twice in two episodes? AMAZING!!! If this is anything like what the rest of the episode is going to be like we are going to be served a MEAL! So thrilled! On the opposite side, Kabby 2.0 is creepy and I’m grossed out. Who’s with me?
Ohhh we’re in a cave! And Josephine is such a fucking priss.
Seriously Josephine is going to get herself killed.
Bellamy is such a boss. Though is he going to get them killed? Doubtful. But his heart is definitely leading over his head.
Oh my gosh. He just said Doubtful after I did! It’s fate!
Can she really hear them now? OMG!!!
What is he going to say?
OMG he was always speaking to her! In the trailer he was speaking to her and not just metaphorically or whatever! WHAT A FUCKING TREAT!
Was it worth it? Probably not.
Eeww....the host had a wife....and still willingly sacrificed his body? Wow these people are brainwashed!
Ohhh what is the truth?! Reveal it Kane! Drop some truths!
Kane is our King! Even if he is in a new body.
Woop there it is! This is the only time where Raven’s condescension this season isn’t bothering me.
INDRA IS BACK!!!!
I forgot Indra and Kane were friends! This is awesome! I missed Indra so much! Is she going to ask about Octavia? Is she?
Commercial Break #2 Thoughts: After the first commercial all of the commercials come so quickly. But we seriously got info that Clarke can hear them! And it seems legit! And Bellamy in the trailer was always just talking to her!!! I love this so much! I’m so happy! But what worries me is the fact that Clarke’s brain---according to the episode sneak peaks we got with Jason and this episode’s writer--has only a few hours left. So....hopefully they get her into the anomaly or something soon? If it will heal her...but if it is just a time anomaly will it actually fix her or just kill her brain sooner because of a time jump? I’m concerned, confused, and cautiously hopeful.
And we are back with Octavia and Gabriel! He better hear his call from his people! We need him to save Clarke!
Octavia versus Bloodreina! FINALLY!
Oh....no....Pike. Interesting.....
We are really getting down to the deepest set of what turned Octavia so dark. Intense
Did anyone else miss Pike’s actor like I did. I mean....I didn’t really care for Pike, but I love the actor who plays him!
Ohh...playing the Bellamy card with her. Ouch.
Of course she hates herself. She was forced to do a lot of shitty things and she did a lot of shitty things on her own. She’s a bit fucked up.
Wow! Pike is really laying into her. Her mind is almost as bad as Clarke’s.
There’s Bloodreina!
Pike is Octavia’s good side of her conscious? Interesting.
Lincoln!!! I don’t want to see this again! Don’t show me his death again! NOOOOOO!!!!!!
Hmmm....but Octavia still protects her mind Pike. Good for her!
You kill Bloodreina, Octavia! I know you can do it!
Damn. That kill shot came quick.
Aww Gabriel is wiping her forehead! That’s sweet!
Commercial Break #3 Thoughts: So....that was intense. But we don’t really know what happened in the anomaly still? Or will it come back to her now that she fought against her demons/Bloodreina? I still think the fight was kind of quick. Even if Octavia has been continuously thinking about getting redemption for awhile now, it still seems like a quick internal battle. I’m sure she will have to fight harder on the outside for redemption with Bellamy and the others, but it wouldn’t have killed us to get a longer fight. However, I will be okay with this shorter fight if it means longer scenes with Bellamy trying to save Clarke.
INDRA!!! Because she loves you.....yes drop those truth bombs girlfriend!
Hmmm....Indra....what are you saying. We need you on our side!
Ohhh.....Raven/Indra/Kane II team! Love it!
YAY Bellamy and Jo!Clarke interaction!
At least she knows that bringing her back was a big mistake sorta.
OHHHH what Clarke/Bellamy truths is she about to drop?!!?
Bellamy’s hope is so cute! I hope it continues and he’s right!
Haha continue to be confident if it pisses her off Bellamy!
Bellamy looks so hurt that Clarke’s body is being hurt.
Uhhh....ohhhh....They know!
Is....Clarke back?
Oh!!! How is this possible! This is such a great fanfic....I mean episode. LMAO!
Commercial Break #4 Thoughts: So....now that she gave control back to Clarke....does that mean that she can take it back or does Clarke have to give it back? I mean....Clarke’s brain is obviously still dying, but will this make it better? Worse? I just can’t believe we just got Clarke back so suddenly! I’m so crazed! I’m so much more hopeful now! Is this going to make me a clown in the end? I don’t know....but I refuse to let go of this hope! Clarke is BACK!
Wait...she is running towards motorcycles...is she playing the part of Josephine or....is she actually Clarke? Yup....actually Clarke.
Ohhhh....So Clarke does have to give back control. So cool.
I’m loving Clarke on the motorcycle! SUPER FUCKING HOT!!!
Clarke and Josephine interaction, and Clarke sassing her! I LOVE IT!
Ohhh....Octavia seeking redemption is hot! And....they just heard the radio calls.
Octavia wants to save her people!
“Things are about to get weird...” Lmao....I love Gabriel! Best line of the night, probs!
Commercial Break #5 Thoughts: So confirmed Clarke is back. We get to see Josephine and Clarke interact with each other outside of her brain. So thrilled that Clarke is back though! SO HAPPY! And Octavia actively seeking redemption, and Gabriel pretty much being cool with it despite him wanting info about the anomaly. That is legit wise-old man vibes! I’m digging it, Gabriel. You’re awesome! I take back not trusting you. If you don’t do something stupid...I’m just going to love you.
Indra is such a badass. We should have brought her back sooner.
Ohhh...are we losing Marcus again so soon? That’s sad....but it makes a good point to this whole show. I really think letting him die would be better for all of this. It proves the point that taking over someone else’s body and living forever is never right. Sometimes people just have to die and stay dead.
Ohhh....she is seeing his old face! I love it! Or are we just seeing it? I don’t care! It’s amazing!
This is the perfect way for us to say goodbye to Marcus! I LOVE IT!
I’ll miss you Marcus! But sometimes dying is for a good cause!
“This is how we get our humanity back.”
I’m crying!!! May we meet again, Marcus Kane. Your fight is over.
So....that episode ended abruptly. But at least we only have one week until next episode!

How to plan a wedding during grad school (and not lose your mind)
I received a lovely ask from @brandnewleaves about wedding planning while in grad school. Congrats on your engagement!
I also got engaged and married during grad school and learned a lot about planning a wedding during such a busy and stressful time. It does take a lot of time and energy and money, but it can be done! (A quick note: I had a huuuge reception (more than 250 guests), so some of these things may not apply to smaller celebrations.)
Here’s my advice from what I learned:
Probably the most important thing: Do not do everything yourself! Get help from as many people as possible, especially your partner (as it’s their day too!). Divvy out the tasks, and set strict deadlines. Have regular meetings with those involved if necessary (I had at least 2 meetings with both families together to go over important details, and to reach compromise on conflicting traditions).
Start early, so you don’t have to do a whole lot of everything all at once, and space out the tasks, so at most you may be spending like, 30 min a day on wedding planning to not feel overwhelmed (tho you can def spend longer/day if you want! Time does fly when you’re having fun!). I think giving yourself at least a year to plan a large wedding reception works well (large/fancier venues need to be reserved a year in advance anyway since they fill up so fast)
Do your research. Wedding planning is a whole new territory to learn about and conquer (there’s a reason people can make a living from being a wedding planner!). Not only do you have to find all the vendors and your venue, there are lots of major things to know, like how far in advance to reserve/purchase ____. I recommend wedding websites like TheKnot and WeddingWire, and chatting with those who have done it before (like me!).
Then, set a timeline and schedule major events/deadlines into your planner/calendar. That way you can see if you have time to do everything you want to do, and whether you can take things a bit slower, or if you need to fast-track some things.
Determine a budget for items. For this part I sat down with my fiancé/husband and determined which things we were comfortable splurging on, what things we could be more thrifty, and what things we could do without. The exact $ spent in the end will most likely change, but it’s good to set boundaries and expectations early on (esp on a grad student salary!!)
Stay organized. I used a plethora of excel sheets to keep track of everything, from to-do lists to budgets to the day-of-schedule. I used Google Drive so I could easily share with others who needed to be in the know, like my parents, and so I could see it on my phone the day-of (using the Google Sheets app). I also bookmarked sites on my browser (like useful resources), and kept a powerpoint slide of pictures of dresses and color schemes I liked (you can also use Pintrest, but I didn’t want to get sucked into that time-sink lol). This collection of ideas is also useful to show your dress/suit consultant, florist, hair-dresser/make-up artist, venue decorator, DJ, cake baker, etc so they get the vibe of your day right.
Use a website for guests to RSVP if you’re going to have a lot of them. TheKnot provides a free website that you can customize, or you can sign up for one at Squarespace. You can also use the website to collect info such as dietary restrictions (and to remind them of the address and other details).
Get things on the cheap!! I know Amazon is kind of a horrible company but MAN I got SO many things on Amazon and saved a ton of money: my veil ($25 on amazon vs $300 on David’s Bridal??? are you kidding me???), my jewelry and hair pieces (aside from the rings lol), all the bridesmaid dresses (I have prime so if I didn’t like them I just returned them), all the faux fur wraps for the bridesmaids, a ton of decor such as table numbers, parts of the wedding favors, the groomsmen belts and shoes, etc etc. And if you’re not particular about reusing decor (that’s been used literally once), people are always selling things on Craigslist!
DIY is fun and saves money, but make sure it’s doable for your skill, time, and energy. My husband I opted to hand-fill small jars with tea and hot cocoa and hand-fold these cute lil boxes for wedding favors, but in hindsight that was a horrible idea because we had way too many guests.
Something that’s overlooked: wedding planning will take up space. Like, physical space, to store all your wedding things such as decor, wedding favors, outfits, etc. My guest bedroom was pretty much unusable for a few months because it was filled. Something to take into consideration if you live in a small space.
If you feel yourself becoming overwhelmed, stop. Step away. Take a break. Bring things into perspective. Don’t let wedding planning be a bad experience. Don’t let it bring out the ugly in the people involved. Always remember that this is a day to celebrate with your family and friends the love and commitment between you and your partner.
My other “more my totally personal opinion” tips:
Spend the money on a professional photographer. If you’re gonna throw down the big bucks on anything on your wedding day, I suggest it be a professional photographer. I didn’t think it was a big deal, but then I saw how amazing my photos were, and how much I--and all my friends and family--cherished such an amazing memory, and I’m soo glad I spent the money. A professional photographer will charge anywhere from $150-300/hr, but even 1 hour of photography for you and your partner and your family members at the venue before everyone else arrives will be well worth it. Not only will the photos be high quality, but wedding photographers know all the best poses and angles. (Also, support your local photographers!)
If appropriate, ask for cash instead of physical gifts. We did this by saying “no boxed gifts - cash or check only” on our invitations. I think this is becoming more common these days, and I honestly think it’s more practical. I legit don’t want any dish-ware bc I already have a set? But money? Heck yes. If asking for money may not fly by your more-traditional guests, consider using Honeyfund, which is like a wedding registry but for honeymoon items, so your guests can give money towards say, the plane tickets.
I caution against picking vendors (including venues) that are too far/time-consuming/expensive to travel often to. You may have to go back quite a few times for meetings, tastings, etc, and many of these places aren’t available to do these on the weekends and evenings (since that’s when they’ll be busy with the weddings!). Our wedding venue and all our day-of vendors (florist, cake baker, etc) were located in our hometown 1.5 hrs away, which isn’t super far, but we had to take some afternoons off work to make it to important meetings, and that kinda sucked for a grad student. However, you can of course video call in for stuff, or opt to trust how the food tastes, etc!
I think I covered most of it! If you have any specific questions, my ask box and chat are always open! (I didn’t mention it, but I also had to balance 2 conflicting cultures/religions, so I have some experience in that alley too)
Once again, congratulations on your engagement, and I wish you and your love a fantastic wedding and all the happiness in the world!!

Pitching Notes: Marina Stanley Lead News Producer TicToc by Bloomberg
Tumblr media
Marina Stanley is lead news producer during the day at TicToc by Bloomberg. At TicToc, Marina is always on the go from the control room for live events to reporting, shooting, writing and editing stories. She is a seasoned TV producer and journalist with expertise in live and breaking news coverage. Marina previously worked for CBS News covering business at the NYSE. Marina has been a field producer and writer covering general assignment and breaking news stories. At NY1 News, she was a live control room producer for morning TV and produced shows and segments.
What is TicToc?
TicToc by Bloomberg is a global news network built native to the digital, social world. We provide 24/7 video news content, live breaking news coverage, and in-depth analysis of global news stories. TicToc caters to a younger and diverse news audience we refer to as the "new guard," those in their 20s and 30s who are intellectually curious, but busy, and more and more mobile-first in their news consumption. TicToc's goal is to make it easier for this audience to understand the biggest stories shaping their world by meeting them on the social media and digital platforms they already dip in and out of for info throughout their day. TicToc has a startup vibe, and commonly breaks from traditional broadcast conventions, but we also have the trusted global resources and reliability of Bloomberg News' journalists in more than 120 countries.
What are the elements that make a good TicToc story?
As a visually driven news brand designed for mobile and social audiences, TicToc stories need to be smart and engaging from the first second to grab you as you're scrolling, so we're not only thinking about what stories to tell but how to best suit the story for the platforms we're on. Perhaps a story makes a wonderful 30-second catch-up video on Twitter. Sometimes it's a longer look at a character that needs to unfold a little bit longer in a video. Other times a breaking story goes out as a tweet or graph to be quickly on top of the news. We really respect our viewers and followers and their time and attention, so we craft each moment of our segments accordingly.
What type of stories interest you? Which ones don't?
I love microcosms of big issues. Making news human, making it relatable. I've always loved human interest stories. I also really love breaking news at my core. I feel so privileged to be at the forefront of major stories, reporting updates as they unfold. I don't like when a story becomes a commercial for someone or something. Almost everyone has an agenda or a point of view they are trying to get across, and that's natural. As a reporter and producer, I always want to ask the questions that will uncover the story our audiences need to hear -- not just the story someone wants to tell. I need to know what and why someone wants me to cover their story if it isn't abundantly obvious and newsworthy.
Where do you get your ideas?
I'm reading and listening to podcasts all the time, but some of my best stories come from relationships I have with people. I talk to people and am extremely curious. Mostly I'm nosy, but I think that openness helps me get good ideas. I have no problem talking to strangers or making cold calls. I'm also truly obsessed with social media. I wake up, open one eye, not two, and I'm on Twitter first thing. I've also learned to absolutely love the Bloomberg Terminal; it's a fountain of information, research, and analysis. Bloomberg journalists and reporters are some of the best around, so I pick their brains and read Bloomberg articles and data all the time.
Tell us about you and your media career.
I’m so excited to be a part of this innovative new media space at Bloomberg. I like to say I’m a little bit old schools, a little bit new guard. I work with really smart, ambitious, interesting people who skew a lot younger than other colleagues I’ve had. I learn so much from them. I love that networking doesn’t mean sitting in a closed-door office two floors away. Networking in my day-to-day means interacting with influencers around the world and news media on social platforms, etc.
I started in traditional TV news as an intern at NY1 News and worked my way up. I literally would shelve tapes and grab coffee. I built relationships and worked hard and was offered freelancing writing work while I was still in college. Upon graduation, I was offered a job where I producers a 5-hour live morning news show. I learned so much at NY1 about producing, shooting, editing. It was like going to graduate school but getting paid.
After NY1 I went to CBS News and had a really fulfilling time there covering everything under the sun. I traveled for political conventions, field produced during breaking news, worked on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange producing live business reports’ it was amazing.
I moved on to this new opportunity because I wanted to be at the forefront of new media. I had an obsession with social media anyway, so the idea of producing stories people would see in their feeds excited me. I wanted to go with the future and away from legacy media. I have so much respect for TV journalists, but I want to captivate attention where people are and that's on their smartphones.
What types of stories should people pitch you?
I love getting exclusive peeks into places, people’s lives and new things. If you can show it to me before the world sees it;, that’s a great story. I love features, human interest, business, and consumer trends, good causes and I'm always open to all good ideas. Show me something I didn’t know and I’ll be interested.
Give us some advice on how to pitch TicToc.
Email is still always best. Make it short. Make it sweet. Make it easy for us to know the who, what, when, where and why. Is there a millennial or Gen Z bent? We’re always thinking about what savvy young people are thinking about. We really care about environmental stories, education and interesting people doing impactful work.
What are your biggest pet peeves about the way people pitch you for coverage?
I hate cold calls in the middle of breaking news. Timing is everything.
How can people get in touch with you to pitch a story?
Hit me in my DMs (that's what the kids say :) )
Social is totally fine but emails are just as great.

Soulmate Mingyu
Part of the Seventeen Soulmate Series
Your pen tapped out an absent minded pattern on the paper in front of you, note-taking long forgotten. You were sitting in the middle of your classroom in high school, ignoring your teacher in favour of your own drifting imaginings.
It wasn’t your fault you were distracted, At least not this time. You were watching artwork sketch itself across your arms.
Your soulmate connection was causing the marks, of course: that familiar link every person shared with a destined future true love. Your skins became canvases tied together by fate, and when one was marked in any way, the other would share an identical imprint.
Right now, your soulmate was drawing neat patterns of flowers, a basic blue ballpoint pen sketching them line by line so they pooled over his bare skin, and in turn, appeared on your own hands, coming from no where.
You wanted to express for affection for the artwork, so you followed a pattern that had become familiar to the two of you, and you drew the outline of a little heart just under his drawings.
You waited, and like always, you had a quick response. A second, slightly larger heart was etched alongside it from your soulmate’s end. Perfectly, artistically, formed. It was his reply. An assurance that he felt the same way.
You felt a flutter in your real heart. You hoped you would never stop being this moved by even the smallest of moment between you. When the bell rang to end the lesson, you barely noticed.
No one would blame you though. There was nothing quite so exciting as signs of a link with a soulmate. Especially when you hadn’t met one another yet, and your joined skins were your only communication.
Although, you and your soulmate knew a few things about each other already.
In most nations, when babies were born, it was common for parents to seek the basic soulmate info their child might want when they were older. A pen with ink safe for newborn skin was owned by most hospitals. It was used to write  soulmate? across the baby’s forehead. If the soulmate was already born, their parents would see the mark appear, and they would send a reply saying yes, then possibly exchange more info. If the soulmate was not born yet, it was a matter of waiting until the word soulmate? appeared, sent from the other end.
Because of this tradition, in your early years, your parents and your soulmates’ parents had already been in contact. You knew he was Korean. You knew his name was Kim Mingyu. You knew he was a boy. You knew his birthday.
Those were the only details that hospitals and parents traditionally bothered to exchange. They left the rest to the kids. You knew in some cultures the parents would be taking the info they got to consult astrologists or religious leaders for more insight. But that was the extent of it.
In the largely globalized world of the modern age, it was taboo in most countries for parents to interfere by continuing communications across their infants’ skin. It was considered more organic to let the children establish ties as they grew up. They could decide for themselves if they wanted to know more before meeting one another. You and your soulmate had long ago come to an agreement that you wanted to do most of your discovering in person, whenever the universe turned its destined pages and bound your paths together.
You were happy knowing one another’s names, and had spent all your lives working to know each other’s languages too. You could tell he’d become quite good with yours because of the ease he wrote down the occasional thing he wanted to remember- like a song title or a movie. And you knew he’d seen your abilities with Korean as well.
The other things you’d discovered about him intrigued you beyond belief. He seemed crazily talented. Almost unfairly talented.
His talents came through in bits and pieces throughout your childhood, when he was bored during what must have been the Korean school day. It was pretty common in your world for people to draw on their own skin. Who didn’t like the idea of a little extra communication with their soulmate? So you would watch doodles paint patterns on your arms, and see how good Mingyu was at art - from little geometric designs to quirky cartoon figures, some of which you recognised, and some which (after a little Googling) introduced you to comic books he must have enjoyed.
There were also the recipes. They were less common, and he only seemed to make those notes if he had no other means to record his food ideas. They made your heart flutter more than anything else, because your soulmate could apparently cook, and cook well at that.
He would scrawl notes to himself on the bare skin of his forearm: ideas about ingredients, or spice combos. One time, when you were only about twelve years old, he wrote out a whole recipe in a quick scrawl, like he was trying to get it noted down quickly to try at home later. Interest raised, you also decided to try it as well. Only problem was, his handwriting was hard to read from his rush to get it all written. After squinting at it for a while, you circled a couple of things on your own arm, and wrote little question marks beside it, hoping he would see, and clarify for you.
Sure enough, the recipe began to rewrite itself out on your other arm. It was in someone elses hand-writing this time, because using his non-dominant right hand would have been even messier. You wondered who was writing it, thinking fondly of your soulmate asking for their help.
Thanks, you wrote under it, adding a little heart.
He drew a returning heart, and, most likely, returned to cooking.
Ever since then, that had been your routine. A small heart when you wanted to express affection, and an answering heart from the other person.
You started to thank each other when you accidentally provided a good recommendation for a song, or a movie, and as time passed, you started to deliberately write things you wanted to share.
When you stumbled across a cartoon with a character you’d seen him doodle before, you always let him know what you thought. When his friends all watched a movie he knew you’d seen before, he would tell you if he’d enjoyed it.
It was such a simple way to be connected, but it warmed your heart each time.
-
When your soulmate reached his late teenage years, he must have started getting into performing, because occasionally some truly dramatic stage make up looks would appear on your face that you were pretty sure he couldn’t be for day to day events. Sometimes, they were embarrassing - appearing at times you did not want to have that intense of a smoky eye. Sometimes, they were really perfectly timed - you were delighted at the seemingly professional level of quality you were given for free through your soulmate.
As well as the make up, the occasional scrawls your soulmate added to the back of his hand sometimes looked like song lyrics. Usually just a few short bars, in messier than normal handwriting that indicated to you he must have had to jot them down quickly. It added to your theory that he was interested in performing.
You wondered if he was passionate enough about performing to put song covers online or something. Perhaps you might have even glimpsed his face before around Youtube. The thought made you grin, but you would have no way of knowing for sure until you met him.
One of the nicest surprises came to you one day when you were listening to music on Spotify- a decent mix of English songs and K-pop (which you’d been listening to for a long time since you knew the language anyway.) You were playing random playlists you found, seeking new music, and then suddenly one of the songs played some rap bars you definitely recognized. You checked the song title - 기대 - and the group name - Seventeen. And you added it instantly to your library.
You were sure your soulmate must have sung the song before, and as always when you discovered a little connection like that, the moment of recognition was thrilling.
You picked up a pen, and then wrote along your arm.
Hi Mingyu, I just listened to 기대  by Seventeen!
There was a pause much longer than usual before you got any response. You went about your day with the letters on your arm, wondering when he would write something back. Usually his replies were quick. But it was when you were getting ready for bed that he finally wrote back.
Sorry it took me so long to reply.
You frowned in confusion, but more letters began to appear.
Did you like the song? Did you watch a performance? Do you know anything about Seventeen? Did you look them up?
It was an odd series of questions.
I didn’t watch anything, you responded, and I haven’t looked them up. Should I have?
You waited, feeling very anxious suddenly, like you had done something wrong. Mingyu seemed sharper and more upset than usual. You watched his questions wash off your arm as he removed them to make room to write more, and you quickly went to your bathroom sink to wash your side of the conversation away as well.
On the blank slate, Mingyu wrote:
No! Don’t look them up! Promise me you won’t.
How strange...
You stared at the request for a long time.
Okay. You wrote. I promise.
You waited for more explanation, but he wrote nothing else for a long time. You picked up your pen again, hesitated, and added:
I liked the song though. Can I still listen to it?
Mingyu drew two adorable hearts first, and wrote: Of course you can. I don’t want to order you around, I’m sorry, it’s just important to me that you don’t look up that group. Feel free to listen to the song though.
Another pause.
What did you like about it?
You laughed a little.
It’s really nice! There’s kind of a soothing but cool style to it. Even the way it starts off it amazing. I think the voices have a kind of story telling vibe to them.
You waited for his response.
I like that too. He wrote. And then he put a few more hearts, and said goodnight. You both washed off your arms and you went to bed.
You had no idea what was going on, but you wanted to respect his wishes and his boundaries, so you didn’t press the issue. You simply let it go. But you listened to 기대 almost every day for a while after, and you especially loved the lines that you remembered Mingyu had written on his arm.
One year after the 기대 incident, your world changes for ever.
You knock on your best friend’s front door, smiling at the pink balloons tied on the letter box and around the doorway. Her little sister yanks the door open, a huge grin on her face.
“Welcome, Y/N!” she yells happily. “It’s my birthday!”
“I know, sweetie,” you smile back at her, handing her the gift in your hands, and watching her squeal with excitement, shaking it violently in her hands. “I can’t believe you’re six years old already! I’m here to help set up the party.”
She guides you through to the back garden, chattering happily about how all her class is coming to join the fun. You respond with the expected enthusiasm, and gasp in amazement when you walk out onto the decorated back lawn. Your best friend waves you over as soon as she sees you.
“Thanks again for offering to help with the party!” she says. “Can you run the face painting? You only need to do really basic looks. We even have some examples the kids can pick from, so you won’t have to think of any complicated designs yourself.”
You look at the sheet of card she’s holding, with a tiger, butterfly wings, a pirate, and other classic kids’ designs she must have printed off from the internet, and you agree you can do the job.
There’s a bit of time to kill before the actual event begins, so you decide to practice some face painting on yourself. It will get you used to this set of paints and it will probably get the kids more excited when they arrive to see an example of the work on the person painting them.
You pick the tiger, and start by covering your face with orange, then adding stripes where you can see them on the guide, a pink nose, and long black whiskers, turning your face from side to side in the tiny mirror so you can see what you’re doing. When the look is complete, you’re actually pretty pleased with yourself.
“Looking good, Y/N!” your friend yells out from across the lawn.
“I’ll paint you next?” you offer.
She comes over, pulls out the second chair at the face painting station, and sits down in front of you.
“Can you give me the butterfly?” she requests.
But as you lift your hand to begin painting her face, you let out a gasp, and freeze, staring at the frantic letters forming across your skin.
Y/N please don’t keep that on! please wash your face now!
It’s about a hundred times messier than Mingyu’s usual handwriting. He must be freaking out.
“What’s going on?” your friend asks.
In answer, you flip your hand over. Her eyes scan the letters, and her brows raise.
“Well, go on then! He’s still writing more ‘please’s! Go wash your face!” she says, all but pushing you out of your seat.
Still confused by Mingyu’s urgency, you turn and race toward the house, stopping at the first sink you see, in the kitchen, and slamming on the tap so fast you spray water down your front.
You dab haphazardly at your face, the water running orange and black and swirling away down the sink.
Your skin feels pink from scrubbing when you stop. You stare at the back of your hand again. It’s blank now. He must have washed off his pleading. A single phrase forms, still a little rushed, but you can almost feels his thankfulness in each letter.
Thank you so much. I’ll explain later.
And that’s all.
Mingyu doesn’t try to communicate again until the party ends. You’re helping to clean up, chucking paper cups empty of coca cola into a rubbish bag. Your best friend’s little sister, the birthday girl, is napping on a couch inside, totally tired after the day’s events.
As you reach down to pick up the next cup, you see new writing appear on your arm. You sit down right there on the grass, watching it appear.
So I know you listen to KPop, which means you’ll probably hear about this soon enough. So I’ll tell you first... something happened today. And it made me decide I want to meet you. Is that okay?
You stare at the words in confusion. But all the times you’ve talked, Mingyu has been a little long winded when explaining things, so you’re sure you’ll understand eventually.
You find a pen, and write back... That’s okay.
Good. Says Mingyu. Did you know KCon LA was this week?
Yeah
Well I’m at KCon LA right now. And this thing happened. And I know I need to see you now. Send me your address, please. I have enough to pay for all my transport, no matter how far away you are. I’m taking a break from work anyway. I have to find you. Please?
You’re shaking by the time you finish reading his excited words. Something really dramatic must have happened for him to change his mind like this... to want to meet you right away no matter what.
You could never refuse him. You write out your home address in careful letters on your arm.
Thank you. Mingyu writes. And while I’m on my way... you can look my name up online. And then
He pauses for a minute or so.
watch the video from this link www.youtube.com/watch?v=7PrXNl05CWM. He takes his time getting every number of the link right, and then continues. It’s embarrassing, but when you watch it, you’ll understand. I’ll see you as soon as possible.
Okay, Mingyu. I’ll see you soon. You write back.
You’re almost afraid to do everything he’s asked. It seems so dramatic. But before panic can take over, you see one more tiny shape form. A single inky heart.
And you smile.
You explain to your friend, head home, open your laptop, and type Kim Mingyu into Google. The first result is a KPop profile; facts and Profile for MinGyu, member of thirteen member Korean boygroup Seventeen.
One hand over your mouth in shock, you click through and quickly skip past the picture (you’re not ready for that) to read what the profile says, trying to make the information sink in. You read facts you already knew about your soulmate - name: Kim Mingyu, born: 06 April 1997, hometown: Anyang, South Korea - along with brand new information - position: lead rapper, height: 187cm - and you try to piece it all together with your reality.
Your mind flashes back to that day when you listened to your first Seventeen song and he asked you not to look up anything more about that group. When you were so charmed by the rapping. The smooth storytelling style to the flow of those lyrics...
And you scroll back up to the photo. You let out a little gasp. He’s beautiful.
It takes a moment for that to feel real as well. But something about the photo they’ve chosen for the profile helps you. He’s impossibly handsome, of course, but he somehow manages to fit in with the picture of Mingyu you had in your mind, because he has a dorky pose, pointing a finger at the screen. It makes him feel more real. More human. More yours...
And then that comforting feeling fades in and out rapidly when you switch straight to Google images and spend about an hour scrolling through photos of your stunning, gorgeous, sexy soulmate. Your head is spinning by the end of it. In some photos, you can see that personality you’ve been getting to know. The sweetness, the slight foolish charm of him, the talents in art that seems to translate to his fashion sense as well, the shots of him cooking... but at the same time, he looks more beautiful than you dared let yourself imagine.
Your favourite thing is spotting bits of writing on his arms. Your writing. And a whole ton of little hearts.
Then you type out his Youtube link, that he spent so long writing out properly to make sure you would watch the right video. It’s only hours old. A performance  MNet uploaded of Seventeen at KCon earlier that same day.
You watch as the boys, all thirteen of them, come out on stage and begin their song. But about halfway through, their expressions start to change when they glance at Mingyu, and when the camera comes in closer, you see your soulmate’s face has turned orange. Then the black stripes begin to form. The boys are faltering in their dance steps now, not sure if they should continue.
Mingyu looks annoyed, like he can’t understand why their performance is falling apart.
Then he catches sight of himself on the monitors. And his jaw drops. And he freezes.
You must have been just finishing off your face paint at that time, because the tiger is nearly completely there. The pink nose adds a hilarious softness to Mingyu’s horrified expression. The crowd is laughing, obviously quite charmed by the display, and amused by its poor timing so much that they don’t mind it messing up the planned show. But Mingyu seems upset by it... as do some of his friends, who must have worked so hard getting ready for this day.
On go the tiger whiskers, long and slightly curved, forming one by one around that lovely nose. None of the boys are moving now. The close up camera is fixed on Mingyu.
The member with the round cheeks steps forward suddenly, saying something funny about Soulmates into the microphone. It makes the rest of the members swirl into action. Some of them crowd around Mingyu, and two with concerned expressions usher him from the stage. The round cheeked one keeps speaking, clearly taking charge of the damage control.
“Thank you, Jeonghan and The8, please take care of Mingyu and return quickly!”
Two more of the boys seem to shake themselves from their surprise as the round-cheeked one beckons them forward, and they start speaking in fluent English to the crowd. They say they’ll move on to their unit performances now, and leave Hip Hop team for last so Mingyu can come back with his face paint gone... and that’s it.
That’s the end of the video.
You can see the recommended next clip is for Seventeen’s other performances, so you know they must have finished as they planned. And since you washed off the face paint fast, you know Mingyu must have returned in time for his performance. But you feel bad for him anyway. He must have been upset to have that happened in front of a whole audience...
You scroll the Youtube comments for a bit. People are amused, or feeling sorry for him, or intrigued by any sign of a soulmate, or surprised that MNet even uploaded the interrupted performance (though you’re sure they’re delighted by its entertainment factor... the clip already has a ridiculously high number of views.)
And after that, it all feels too much for you. The truth is too intense. You close your laptop and go to find your family, so you can tell them what’s happened and get ready for your visitor.
The thought makes you smile again. A little happy tremble goes through you. You get to meet your soulmate soon... You get to meet Mingyu.
He knocks timidly on the door when he arrives, and you fly to answer it, barely noticing each step as your feet swallow up all the space between you until all that remains is your front door.
You take a deep breath, hand on the handle, and fling it open.
“Mingyu,” you gasp.
There he stands, looking shy and awkward, face graced by a slightly giddy smile he can’t seem to keep down. You find that despite running to meet him, you’re now frozen where you stand. His warm honey eyes scan over you though, skating across the features on your face, shifting down your body, and he looks so happy you might just melt where you stand.
“Hi, Y/N,” he whispers. “Did you look it up?”
You nod. And then words begin to pour out of him, in the same rushed way he writes, a long-winded explanation that makes your heart squeeze with pure affection.
“I realised after that performance that we were being stupid to wait to meet each other- to hope that the world would throw us together some, even though we were bound to be desperately thinking about one another every second until it happened. Or at least, I thought about you...”
He steps forward, lifts his hands and cradles your face.
“I was always worried about making you a part of my life too soon. I though I had all the time in the world to meet you, and what if I did meet you too soon, and I just messed it all up right away? As if it were possible to ever spend too much time together...”
He laughs, and when you join in, his smile becomes blinding.
“After today I know this is what I want. I want to be with you. I want us to know every detail of each others lives. I want a public, open, happy relationship with you before the eyes of the entire world. I don’t want anyone to see that video and think it was embarrassing. I want it to be the story of how we came together. I want it to be the beginning. Is that what you want?”
He’s so gorgeous, and the two of you are destined, so it’s a surprise to see how nervous he looks. As if you would ever turn him down.
“This is want I want,” you assure him.
And, hands still warm on your face, he kisses you for the first time.

some thoughts on s7
this ended up me kind of rambling about my thoughts and feelings on s7 that are all over the place, so please bear with me if these thoughts don’t seem too well organized or anything:
now, before i even actually saw the season, i was just snooping around here on tumblr to see what ppl’s reactions were, and i kind of let it get to the better of me. some people were just over dramatizing what was happening in s7, and their negativity on the season made me believe that i would wholeheartedly dislike the season. i saw all the posts with people going on about how if youre still watching the show, you should immediately drop it (and it was mainly centered around few central complaints going around right now, pretty sure you can figure that out on your own on what that was). it was understandable on where the frustration was stemming from. i only got 3 hours of sleep because of what people were saying despite not even seeing the season for myself and seeing how events would ultimately play out. but like they would always say, you shouldn’t let other people’s judgement affect you, and it really shouldn’t be the determining factor on how you view things or how your opinions are formed.
when i watched the season, my general reaction to it was that its “ok”, i didn’t think it was entirely and absolutely terrible. i already know how a lot of us didn’t like the way a few characters got treated. i mainly thought that the animation looked nicer and improved in some of the action scenes. the writing was kind of “meh” for me when it came to whatever certain plot points that got introduced or continued. watching it on my own actually removed any thoughts of me disliking/hating the season entirely.
even though i say this, the things i mention here are mainly about some issues that kept being brought up by people and circled around ever since s7 got released.
in terms of character development? besides what we’ve been given for hunk, which has been awesome so far (i dont really feel like i have much to go in depth with for this, its already self explanatory in the season itself), i guess its going somewhere. i’ve got some hope, but it’s not on the level where its overwhelmingly high and optimistic. everyone’s been talking about the lack of actual lance development, how he’s constantly being reduced to being the “dumb” one, but we actually see him take initiative when needed. lance has been shown to stepping up and taking his role into account when handed the opportunity to do so, and it was multiple times when lance was given the re-established position of keith’s right-hand man. despite whatever remarks keith made on lance, whether or not they were supposed to come off as teasing/joking for the audience, keith does still seem to believe in lance’s capabilities. if he didn’t, keith wouldn’t have trusted lance the task on leading their team on their mission(s). lance actually got scenes where he could shine off as being portrayed more than what he’s constantly being insulted as. there are still some scenes of them showing mutual trust and respect for each other, especially with lance voting for keith during “the feud” and the reasoning he gave. but yeah, some parts it did seem like keith was kind of ooc in certain episodes when comparing his personality back to s3. who knows why keith gave the reasoning he did when he voted for lance. EDIT: acoolemocucumber’s post makes a good note on pointing out how during the voting section, keith is actually the first one to start writing. it’s later revealed that he chose lance on first pick. lance was the second to finish. even though he was peeking over at hunk and pidge to see who they chose, he instead decides to choose keith. keith choosing lance as a first choice without pure hesitance is amazing to see, and it really shows he trusts and respects lance a lot despite the reasoning he gave. then again, actions speak louder than words and countless times keith has shown to be that kind of guy by relaying a lot of important tasks to lance throughout this season.
i’ll do say that i enjoyed most of the scenes they shared when they had to take a leading initiative with each other though. that was pretty nice to see again, and it felt like a decade since i ever saw that kind of dynamic from those two.
there were a lot of action packed scenes, and i watched through those entirely to see if there’s any important plot detail to know, or make note of, while watching the ep to make sure i wouldnt be lost with whats happening so far. some people found it boring, some people found the fight scenes amazing and stunning. certain scenes had me really amazed on how well it was animated, some other scenes not so much in terms of repetition, and thats kind of bound to happen if we’re provided an arc where its continuing to keep the tense vibes on the recurring events with the current situation of the season.
this is just merely my take on it, (my memory’s not the best with how much information im recalling from those 13 episodes) but it kind of felt lackluster with how the paladins barely got any kind of break where they could seriously spend one episode on unwinding, having in-depth conversations one on one, and not be so worried about the galra all the time. sure, there’s a few scenes like that in a few episodes, but it didn’t seem enough to make it feel like it balanced out whatever conflicts or character issues were newly or constantly introduced.
ive read posts already about how some people had liked the season a lot, loved the actions scenes and all. but to me, some conflicts that took place seemed out of place or just didn’t really align well (idk how else to phrase it) especially with adam’s death, and i had minor mixed feelings about ep “the journey within”.
about adam, it just seemed out of place and rushed for them to introduce shiro’s s/o only for them to take him away. we don’t get to see how fleshed out adam could’ve been, and i’ve already seen the frustration/rage people had with adam being killed off when considering how the creators told the viewers that they were gonna get to see adam, but weren’t told how long we’ll see him (plus the entire thing abt lgbt rep that was promised?). the thing with adam left me on a weird note, mainly because if you were just given no other info besides the info from the season, you wouldn’t even be given too explicit information about the relationship shiro had with adam. from there, it felt like there was no point in adding adam into the story if the viewers aren’t given clear information on what kind of bond shiro and adam had besides adam saying that they’ve been through a lot together (or whatever he said, idr it too much) and the “how important am i to you” line for lgbt rep points. its just pretty vague “””representation””” thats just leaving the audience to make the most out of what they’re given. we’re only given confirmation that they used to be fiancés from what they said in panels/interviews, but never in the show. im not sure what to really think about that, my mind’s just kind of in the void when i think about it. but this part i structured kind of badly and i apologize for that, but hopefully those of you can get what im saying.
as for “the journey within”, it was reasonable for the way characters acted; theyre all tired, frustrated, and losing hope and were floating in space waiting for nothing but at least something to happen. keith snaps, gets irritated at everyone, lance is also the one to lash back out at keith saying keith ran away, giving the audience a big sign that lance was hurt by keith’s disappearance/leave from the team. but for keith to quickly later on go take everything back in just a few minutes seemed really awkward for me. its a kids show and all, but i just kind of didn’t like how that one section of that episode was written ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ just a feeling i had with it. however, i did love how hunk took a lot of the initiative during the episode, it’s showing his growth of actually him continuing to fully accept his role as a paladin and determined to not back down regardless of his own cowardice that could prevent him from doing so at any time.
and there’s the thing about k/acx: ive already seen a bunch of people going somewhere along the lines of disbelief, anger, frustration on how keith is getting het endgame but when i saw the episodes, his interactions with acxa didn’t even seem borderline romantic to me at all? to me, i merely saw 2 characters actually getting on better terms with each other and returning the favor. the two no longer see each other as enemies but allies now. keith only went back to save acxa because it seemed like he believed that he felt in debt to acxa for trying to save his team. ezor and zethrid merely poked fun at acxa, but if you consider previous seasons where acxa and keith interacted, the two just continued to return the favor of owing whatever debt they had for each other. it didn’t seem like there was any romantic tension intended in any of the scenes where they interacted. we already know acxa betrayed ezor and zethrid by switching sides, and if you were betrayed you’re bound to make at least a  remark on whoever betrayed you either way. in this case, ezor and zethrid found it reasonable to make a comment on acxa’s alliance with keith, hence how they teased acxa possibly crushing on keith (whether or not thats actually confirmed, its just left ambiguous and up for interpretation at that point). there’s the parallel with how they animated the shot between keith and acxa talking to each other, but neither did that one seem romantic to me? i hope im not the only one who thought that? the other scene people talked about was when acxa is in the same scene where keith was present when he visits his dad’s grave with krolia. i dont get why some people were upset about that either. even though its at the last ep of s7, there’s nothing to imply that keith invited acxa to go visit his dad’s grave with him or anything if you consider their placement in the scene. if keith did care about acxa’s presence being there when he visited the grave, wouldn’t he at least acknowledge acxa’s presence by showing obvious attention to her, or have her close to where him and krolia were? she remains distant but respectful of keith in the scene. i dont see where these scenes would imply keith automatically finds a romantic interest in acxa. acxa to keith? maybe, we don’t entirely know. keith to acxa? i dont see it being implied anywhere at all. not to mention keith’s “can’t we just fight” statement right after ezor and zethrid teased acxa about having a romantic interest in keith. again, its just my take on what’s being presented and my own thoughts on how people are viewing it.
and with a/l, it leaves me on a bad note with how its progressing if its really getting the sealed deal endgame. like most people have been saying, it would be good for them to be endgame if they were only written better. am i entirely convinced theyre endgame? not really because there’s that small chance where vld pulls a 180 and the show creators stay true to their words on lance not being a rebound, lance being someone’s first choice, lance getting what he needs, not what he wants. what’s being given/presented so far is just bad writing with how allura suddenly reciprocates feelings for lance out of nowhere despite showing consistent disinterest in lance’s advances in previous seasons. s4 and onward we see her seeing lance more than just an annoying flirt, and the two become better friends who could genuinely talk to each other without having allura annoyed with lance’s flirtatious antics, and without lance being reduced to a constant flirt. during allura’s interest in lotor, we’re yet again presented how allura doesn’t return feelings for lance, especially during the scene when the mice told her about lance’s feelings for her back in s6. she seems rather disappointed, pitiful, or uncomfortable with knowing how lance genuinely liked her when she liked lotor during that time. later on, allura’s been out of her previous love interest with lotor, and hasn’t shown returned much of the same interest in lance. sure, she hugged lance and he returned the hug, but that only seemed necessary in the moment for when allura had felt betrayed by someone she wholeheartedly trusted and fell in love with. she needed comfort from someone and the person she spoke to was lance who was able to lend her some comforting words. but that was about it. i’d like to say that considering that this is a kids show, it does give a bad incentive for children to develop on believing that if they continue to force their feelings onto someone else, the person they’re interested in will eventually like them back out of the blue, which is the worst course of action to take despite being rejected countless times (and its kind of being shown with what a/l has right now). to take this kind of scenario and to fix/put it with good writing would to just properly depict lance accepting rejection and allura staying true to her previous feelings on not reciprocating his feelings. in a general sense, we all know that we can’t always get what we want, and that’s an important moral that always gets taught over and over again even if youre a child or an adult. rejection and acceptance of the rejection is something that can be taught here through the romantic subplot they’ve been having. just deciding that they should become endgame out of nowhere would leave the writing very dull. having allura get out of her previous love interest with lotor only to quickly move onto lance just doesn’t leave off on a good note. it just reduces lance to a rebound and that’s about it.
the writing for me wasn’t really that breathtaking, overwhelming, or emotional or anything when it came to new plot points being presented (you know, all the fight scenes, galaxy garrison, that stuff). again, a lot of things seemed pretty rushed, i had mixed feelings for some but not all episodes. it was nice to see mostly everyone united back with their families and characters developing new motives for what they believe in doing. yet, the writing kind of just wasn’t on the level of where it actually gets me really interested and invested into the storyline like how it had back in s1 to early s3. i’ll still mention how the writing did it’s part in presenting development for hunk, though. i enjoyed that a lot.
some parts of the writing were questionable, some parts of the season were enjoyable, but it wasn’t entirely overwhelmingly disappointing for me. the season was on the bare minimum on having the writing go “decent”, but again it felt pretty “meh” and this is just my own feelings on it. people have their own opinions, frustrations, concerns, questions, some people loved it, some people severely hated it or just felt extremely disappointed.
the season has its peaks and lows, some pros and cons, but whatever you take from it is what you believe.
i’ll still keep watching the show to see how it ends, that’s for sure.

Considering studying abroad? Hear what this ‘iinnova’ has to say!
Tumblr media
To be an ‘iinnova’ means to be daring, persistent, adaptive, righteous and with an unquenchable thirst for learning. Being an ‘iinnova’ also means to be aware of your capability to achieve your goals. When Aravindh Rajendran approached IINNOVA, we instantly saw an ‘iinnova’ in him. We have been working with Aravindh to help him achieve his goals as an international student in New Zealand. Aravindh has just finished his Master of Professional Business Analysis studies from Wellington ICT Graduate School and is already making progress on achieving his next goal. We asked Aravindh if he would like to give some advice to aspiring international students in India and below is what he came up with. We are proud to share Aravindh’s advice on our platform. Have a read of what Aravindh has to say, as he answers a question that you might be trying to find an answer to.
What are the key things that you need to consider before planning your study abroad?
Hiya! By the time you’re coming across this question, you have probably already prepared to do your higher studies abroad. For that, best of luck in advance. Don’t worry, you’ll win for sure. Well, I’m sharing a few tips with you on how to achieve the desired goal quickly. This approach helped me immensely and I am thinking it might help you as well. So here are a few things I might suggest you to do, in order to find yourself 100% successful in what you are planning to do. There are a few things that you will need to work on before you choose the country and the course that you’re after.
KNOW YOURSELF
Tumblr media
This might sound silly, but it is really important to do this. Understand yourself deeply. Ask yourself the question endlessly until you feel you have got the right answer.
“What do you want to become?”
Some people are good in developing or constructing something, whereas some people are good in managing a product or a team. Hence, understand yourself better before you choose the course. If you are good in managing, you can go for a business related studies. If you are good in developing and creating things, you can go for core specialization studies. In order to pick the right course, first understand yourself and analyze what you really want to be. Then comes the important part - Setting the GOAL!
Tumblr media
Goal is the important part of whatever you do. It gives you the basic objective of what you want to achieve. Everyone should spend some quality time in setting the goal. The reason is, if you set a goal, it will be registered on the back of your mind. Knowingly or unknowingly, your brain will keep considering the goal every time when you are making decisions which will help in aligning it to your expected outcome. Psychologically, this will be your motivation as well because you will be aware of the goal that you want to achieve and hence you won’t find yourself wasting time on anything anywhere.
A goal can be anything. It can be a short-term goal like “I want to do Master’s in Nanotechnology and get a job”. Or it can be a long-term goal like “I want to become a CEO of an Aeronautics company someday”. Neither short-term nor long-term, it is highly recommended that everyone should have a goal before they do anything.
I recommend having a short-term goal so that you can enjoy quick wins. For e.g. take the first goal that I have given above. Like “I want to do Master’s in Australia and get a job there”. In this, your first quick win would be completing the Master’s. So, once you have achieved your first goal, you have achieved a part of goal which gives you positive vibes and encouragement to keep yourselves going. It gives you confidence in yourself that you can achieve the goals you’ve set and will motivate you to set more goals and achieve more.
Tumblr media
You’re doing amazing. Now you know who you are and have a goal defined. What next? Plan. A plan is a possible way by which you can attain the expected outcome without facing much hassles. For this there are few things that you need to take into consideration. It’s the Valuable ones! Are we talking about the Gadgets or Jewelry? No. It is Time and Money. It is important to have enough money to pursue your studies. Even if you don’t have, there are heaps of educational loan providers to sponsor your studies. But what we should have is an efficient plan on how to utilize the resources at hand effectively.
Draft a rough expenses plan in an excel spreadsheet or where you think you can do an easy calculation. It should include all the possible expenses that are likely to be made by you throughout the studies. Given below are the expenses that you need to consider.
Tumblr media
If you get your loan which can suffice all your expenses through your study, it’s a jackpot. Otherwise you need to have a plan for managing your expenses and how to earn some income to support that plan. The simple solution would be preparing yourselves for a part-time work. This helps in not only earning money but also will help you understand the work-culture, ways of living, mindset and gives you a good experience as well. Also, this will keep on motivating you for not giving up on your goals and keep pushing you to achieve it and get out of the part time work. Either way, it’ll be useful.
Now, you have a plan for expense management. On top of it, plan a timeline so that you can stick to it efficiently. For e.g. “Within 2 months, I need to get a part-time job”. Having this in your plan, will motivate you to look continually for a part time job. By having these elements in the timeline, it helps to focus more on what needs to be achieved in order to attain the final outcome.
Country
Tumblr media
Now you have an understanding of who you are, what you want to become, and a plan in place. Awesome! Next comes the place of study. It is important to choose the place to study as well. Some countries welcome people from other cultures like Canada and New Zealand. But in some  countries you may find it hard to gel in with the local culture. So, in order to have a peaceful study life, choose the place wisely to study. Or at the least, prepare yourselves better before going in there. A few tips that will help you to get acquainted are given below.
When in Rome, be a Roman
Don’t be the same that you were in your country. Adjust yourself a bit so that we don’t cause any disturbance to the native people. For e.g. In New Zealand, people tend to be soft and polite and they don’t raise their voice at any point of time. But in India, it happens usually. So, people have to adjust themselves to their host country's culture.
Stick to the common language while out in public
Try and speak in the country’s common language when out in public. Most of the times it will be English unless you have chosen to go to a non-english speaking country. People may find it rude if you speak in your mother tongue unnecessarily when you are in public. To get the idea, just imagine that you’re sitting next to a small group of people speaking loudly in a language that you don’t understand. If you don’t find it annoying, you may find it rude. And using the common language in public also gives you an opportunity to be part of the local culture and get involved. It's a good idea to consider that you’re not just representing yourself but your country as well. So anything that you do in public will play a role in the impression you will earn for yourself and your country.
Follow the rules
Either it is on the road or public. Stick to the rules and regulations at all cost. Don’t take any shortcuts. If you happened to get caught, implications can be serious. In New Zealand, people have high respect for the law. Law enforcement is taken very seriously. It is always a good idea to play by the rules and play an effective role in being a responsible member of the country that attracted you to experience what it has to offer. You don’t want to break any law knowingly or unknowingly, so it's advisable to familiarise yourself with the laws that will most likely impact all aspects of your life overseas.
This was some information that everyone needs to consider before moving to another country for studies. I believe you have a good knowledge on how to prepare yourselves for your studies abroad and hope this helps you in planning and choosing the right course and place to study. All the best in advance!
We think Aravindh has really got it nailed with his approach. When you’re away from your home country there is a lot going on around you. Sometimes, it can be overwhelming trying to stay on top of your goals. But with the right attitude, good approach and the will to achieve, you can do it. In our next blog, we will be discussing different approaches that you can take to make your overseas study dream a reality. We will talk about the pros and cons of each approach available to you. If you have a specific information need, feel free to contact us via our website www.iinnova.co.nz or email us directly at [email protected].

Malibu is like the super-duper ridiculously good looking laid back cousin of the busy version of Los Angeles.
All the beaches and hiking and food… but far fewer people.
Depending on where you’re coming from in L.A. you may have a bit of a drive to get there, but cruising down PCH while admiring  the views of the glistening ocean and rolling waves will make it all worthwhile.
From nature excursions to horseback riding and surfing to going on a wine safari, there’s plenty to see and do in Malibu, and hopefully this brief rundown will help get you started.
Enjoy the list!
1. The Grotto Trail
The Grotto Trail is a relatively easy three-mile (round trip) hike that leads to a grotto and waterfall. If you want a hike without the work and a nice payoff at the end this is for you.
More information
2. Escondido Falls
The Escondido Falls trail is famous for the 150-foot fall, the tallest in the Santa Monica Mountains. However, because of the drought it’s not likely you’ll find much water there during the hotter seasons but it’s a fun hike and you can still get some great shots among the boulders.
More information
3. Solstice Canyon
Solstice Canyon is a picturesque trail featuring a year-round waterfall and Instagram-worthy views of the ocean. The trail also leads to what remains of a stone cottage destroyed by a wildfire; it’s believed to be the oldest existing stone building in Malibu.
More information
4. Malibu Creek State Park
Malibu Creek State Park is a family friendly park with 15 miles of trails and a few swimming holes. It’s also the site of TV shows including Planet of the Apes and M*A*S*H and you can still view some of the old cars from the set if you stay on Crags Road. Like Escondido Falls, the water level is low but the swimming holes are deep enough to dip into.
More information
5. Mishe Mokwa Trail
The Mishe Mokwa Trail leads to Sandstone Peak, the highest peak in the Santa Monica Mountains and a favorite among hikers. Go on a clear day for the best views and head out early as it’s a 6-mile trail but trust me, it’s worth it. Along the trail there are a few attractions including the Split Rock, Balancing Rock, and Inspiration Point (stop and take it all in). There’s a summit register where you can sign your name or write an inspirational quote (it’s very Reese Witherspoon in Wild).

6. Go Horseback Riding with The Malibu Riders
Explore Malibu in a whole new way riding horseback through Zuma Canyon. The ride is an hour long and provides amazing views of the ocean. Go on a clear and sunny day to take full advantage of the scenery.

7. Visit the Amazing Beaches…
If Malibu has one thing in spades it’s natural beauty and nowhere is that more evident than the ocean. If you visit early in the morning when whales migrate (Dec.-Jan, April-May) you’re likely to see a gray whale or two plus dolphin pods and seals. I suggest coming before 10:00am for whales but you’ll likely see dolphins and seals throughout the day.
The beauty of this coastal city is that you can visit different beaches and enjoy a different experience.
Below are some of our top picks.
Leo Carrillo is a 1.5 mile beach with tide pools and caves plus a dog friendly zone (on-leash). It goes without saying that Surfrider beach is famous for being an ideal place to ride the waves but if that’s not your thing you can always walk along the pier and enjoy a meal at Malibu Farm or visit Adamson beach house or the Malibu Lagoon Museum (more info below).  El Matador State beach is favored among those who like to explore the caves and rock formations that have become trademark features but be prepared because you’ll have to walk down a 150-bluff (there are stairs). For a truly laidback experience where you can just lay in the sand and take a dip in the ocean, Zuma beach is a local favorite. Paradise Cove is one of the most famous beaches in Malibu because it’s private and you’re allowed to bring alcohol (just no hard liquor) though it’s also notorious for its $40 parking fee (unless you pay a minimum of $30 at the cafe then it’s $6). If you’re up for the novelty of it and budget accordingly you get to enjoy a private beach experience so there’s that.
Oh and don’t forget about Point Dume / Westward Beach…
8. Malibu Coastal Adventures
If you want to go all out and really embrace the Malibu way then you gotta do more than just swim or sun bathe. Malibu Coastal Adventures offers paddle boarding, surfing lessons and whale/dolphin watching boat excursions.

9. Go Shopping at the Malibu Country Mart
If you’re going to spend the day out anywhere you’re bound to want to stop and shop. Malibu Country Mart has a laidback vibe but it’s definitely a spot to hit up if you’re willing to splurge on upscale brands (7 for All Mankind, L’Occitane, John Varvatos etc). If you’re looking for treats though, Grom Malibu  is celebrated for their gelatos, Malibu Kitchen stocks plenty of sweet treats though I’m partial to their paninis while Taverna Tony‘s Greek restaurant features live music and belly dancers. Parking is plentiful (a rarity in L.A.) and as an outdoor shopping center you still get to enjoy that Malibu sunshine.

10. Go Scuba Diving
Malibu Divers offers beginner’s courses for scuba diving. (Note: Depending on the experience you select the lessons maybe span multiple days).

11. Malibu Family Wines
Malibu Family Wines hosts multiple activities including Yoga & Mimosas, Sips & Giggles comedy night and Movie Night (July-October) but you can always keep it simple and come with your own cheese platter and blankets for a nice picnic.
More information
12. Go on a Wine Safari
Malibu Wine Safari is as exotic as it sounds with a little vino and a slew of exotic animals. The trip takes you around the 1,000 acre vineyard that’s home to alpacas, zebras, giraffes, and even bison which you can feed!!! Carrots, pellets, and bananas are provided along with two tastings of locally-sourced vino.

13. Visit the Adamson House
Adamson House is a national historic site near Surfrider Beach built in 1929. The home is small but full of unique touches like hand- carved doors, hand painted frescoes and beautifully crafted details in every room. The docent (only available for tours) happily shares the history of the home and the family that built it. While photography is not allowed inside you can photograph and roam the garden area.

14. Spend a Day at the Getty Villa
The Getty Villa (technically in the Pacific Palisades but let’s not be technical) is a work of art onto itself modeled after a Roman country house from the first century in Italy. The Villa houses ancient Greek and Roman art and has four gardens with Roman models and, for an additional sense of authenticity, plants from the ancient Mediterranean. (Note: Admission is free but timed-entry tickets are required and parking is $15)

15. Upscale Dining Options
Nobu
If you want to splurge and indulge than this is the place. The restaurant serves up fusion cuisine (Japan x Peru) and is known for their signature dishes of black cod with miso and yellowtail sashimi with jalapeño. There are Malibu-specific items including ribeye with truffle butter and crispy Maui onions so come for the food and linger for the ocean view.
More Information
Geoffrey’s
This is the ultimate upscale Malibu dining experience. It’s oceanside, intimate and they’re famous for their lively and delicious brunch but whenever you decide to go make sure you order the baked brie in puff pastry.

16. Casual Dining Options
Malibu Seafood
It’s an unassuming eatery along PCH so it’s fresh food that’s literally from across the street. My personal favorite is the fish and chips but you really can’t go wrong with any of the seafood dishes and the ocean view.
More Information
Neptune’s Net
In case the name didn’t give it away, this eatery -established in 1956- prides itself on serving up fresh seafood. Get the basket to share (or for yourself, not judging) and the clam chowder because it really is as good as they want you to think it is.
More Information
Malibu Farm (Cafe & Restaurant)
It’s organic and fresh and they serve grilled chocolate cake, what else is there to say? This eatery is right on the pier so staying to watch the sunset is a must.

One Week Down!
¡Hola, todos! Sending out good vibes from Quito!
Damn has a lot happened this weekend! Perhaps both the most exciting and nerve-wracking part of the experience so far has finally come: I moved in with my homestay family! But there’s quite a story leading up to this point so I’ll start from the beginning.
Friday was taken up by one-on-one interviews with our program director, Faba, during which we just checked in about our medical information and how we’re doing so far. Since there are 24 of us, and each interview took about 10 minutes, and somehow we fell behind at some point, this took almost half the day. When it was finally done around 1:30, a big group of us went out for tapas and had quite the time. It will be our last meal together for some time, because at around 4:00 on Friday, our host families came to pick us up from our hotel!
I was quite the ball of nerves and excitement while waiting for my family to arrive. Hell, we all were! All I had to go on was a letter they wrote me describing how excited they were to welcome me into their home, as well as a photo of the family and some info about them that the program provided. Well, the funny thing was that my family did not show up on Friday. The whole family had taken a weeklong vacation to the beaches of Esmeraldas, a province to the northwest of Quito that is a looooooong car ride from the city lol probably 6-8 hours with traffic. So, one of their good friends who is hosting another student and who lives close by picked me up. She was so nice and hospitable, feeding us cake, tea, and a scrumptious dinner. She is quite experienced in hosting foreign scholars, and in fact I ended up meeting two additional students from other universities and doing other stuff in the country that were wrapping up their time in Ecuador. My temporary host mom has a daughter and a son around our age, so all 6 of us ended up going out to a house party after dinner. Oh, one cool thing about my temporary host family is that the father’s brother is an ex-president of Ecuador who is also a famous economist. In addition to his famous books he’s written, my temporary host mom showed us a picture album with the whole family which was amazing and cute.
Now, this house party was something else. Getting there took around 40 minutes, as we had to drive out of Quito to Tumbaco, a little town out to the west. Let’s just say that the young Quiteño upper-class plays hard. First of all the estate was enormous, surrounded by this huge wall that enclosed probably three or four buildings on this large piece of land. Behind the mansion was this patio that was replete with a huge grill, a hammock, access to the kitchen, comfortable furniture, and even security cameras lol. There were many young men and only four young women including my temporary host sister. The men were going hard, forcing each other to drink, smoking cigarettes, forcing each other to drink more, running around all over the place, fighting over control of the music, grabbing the women as if they owned them. I had heard from one of the program assistants during our safety lecture that in Ecuadorian society, men are under such pressures from patriarchy that they vent all their pent-up emotions by drinking excessively. I don’t know enough to claim that this is what I witnessed, but it is a tempting conclusion to draw. Of course what I saw at the party is also heavily influenced by class, since these kids (my age) have the leisure and money to drink hard on a Friday night. It should also be said that this entire weekend is a dry weekend; bars are closed and you can’t buy alcohol anywhere. The reason? There was a national referendum today, and I take it that for all elections, since voting is mandated by law, alcohol disappears so as to ensure people’s faithful compliance. Nonetheless these individuals had procured alcohol from somewhere and were indulging. The most fun I had was swapping party stories with this one guy who ended up getting so drunk he couldn’t stand by the end of the night, and talking with this truly intercultural young man who spoke English, Spanish, and German, had studied abroad almost as much as he had in Ecuador, and who has plans to continue his education in Europe. One other thing I learned was that marijuana is super taboo here, way different from the states lol.
Saturday morning, my friend’s host family dropped me off at my real host family, and I finally got to meet them! Their house is also enormous. Just like every other house I’ve seen in Pichincha province (which includes Quito and the surrounding towns I’ve visited, like Pifo and Tababela), their house is enclosed in a tall wall covered in spikes. It has three stories, including a large patio and a home office for the parents’ travel agency they’ve owned for over 20 years. The sitting rooms are spacious and filled with cool art, the kitchen is small but intimate, and the house is super well located: just a few minutes’ walk to Parque La Carolina, El Jardín Mall, and our class building. Two parents, a daughter, two sons, and their grandmother all live in this incredible house. There’s even room for a visiting aunt who lives in London who is also very charming. In addition, a lovely Japanese woman named Ayumi rents office space and works as a travel agent for Japanese tourists. Her office is right next to my room; she’s also super friendly! Everyone is so welcoming and nice! We talked, watched Black Mirror in Spanish lol, ate delish traditional Ecuadorian food, compared the Spanish and English in different countries across the world, and went out the shopping mall. More on the food. It’s all soo yummy. There’s like a mini corn-on-the-cob that’s called choclo, and it’s usually served with a slice of cheese. They brought out a cacao fruit, which looks really cool, and when you cut it open you expose the brown seeds that are covered in a white slime. You can suck on the seeds and ingest the white slime, which sounds kinda gross but is actually a good mixture of sweetness and tartness. Oritos are mini bananas that are super sweet. Habas reminded me of edamame, as they’re kinda a bean-looking food whose shell you bust open to reveal a kinda bland inside that you can scoop out and eat. It’s really good with just a pinch of salt added to it! The main course of lunch featured a sardine flank that was served cold in a red sauce with tiny round potatoes. At breakfast there was thick papaya juice which was really good, and with lunch there was this sparkling apple juice that somehow had no sugar whatsoever in it. Tonight for dinner I had pastel de plátano, which is exactly what is sounds like: a little pan-seared cake made of smooshed sweet plantains called maduros. Oh I guess should I explain how meals work lol. Lunch is the main course of the day, usually consisting of 3-4 dishes served around 1-2 pm. Breakfast and dinner are both very light. Coffee or tea is usually served at both, and I’ve had grilled cheese sandwiches served at both as well lol. At breakfast, they bring out the rich fruits, whether in slices or juiced. Dinner, if served at all, tends to be pretty late, like around 8 pm. Needless to say everything I’ve eaten so far is delish(;
But I have to say that moving in with the host family has been one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. Saturday was one of the longest days of my life. I’m overwhelmed still from being here and being so far away from what’s comfortable; add to that the awkwardness of getting to know an established family unit so intimately and the mindfuck of re-socializing your brain to speak only another language. There was a lot of time to myself Saturday, which was hard. But, it was also very fun and I can’t say I regret it. I knew going in that this weekend would be the hardest, but once I get over this hump then it should be relatively smooth sailing. On the positive side, they treat me very well and I can hold my own in conversations with three generations of native speakers. Think about the differences in pronunciation that accompany age in English-speaking lands; well, I’m slowly building the satisfaction of mastering that in Spanish as well. I also get along very well with both sons, which is cool to think that I’m making international friends! It’s a long journey I’ve just begun, but I wouldn’t go back for anything.
Another cool thing was a conversation I had with the youngest son about voting today. This won’t be his first time voting (that came in Lenín Moreno’s election last year), but he nonetheless had some cool perspectives on the referendum. Voting is mandated by law for all those above age 18 and is optional for those aged 16 and 17. If you do not vote, you incur a steep fine. In addition, upon voting, one receives a certificate that one needs to do official citizen business like procure a passport or visa. The referendum consists of 7 questions that will amend the Constitution. These questions are:
1.       Would prohibit those accused of corruption from ever serving in public office (Ecuador has a long history of political corruption, yet the last straw in adding this question to the referendum was the recent imprisonment of former vice president Jorge Glas on corruption charges)
2.       Would limit all elected officials to only 2 terms in the same office (brought about by the last president, Rafael Correa, who changed the constitution to allow himself to run indefinitely)
3.       Would replace all current members of the Citizens’ Participation and Social Control Council (the 5th branch of government here) and replace them all with new appointees (to flush out the last remaining allies of president Correa)
4.       Would remove statute of limitation for sex crimes against minors (due to over 1,000 cases of sex crimes against minors brought to court over the last 2 years)
5.       Would prohibit mining in protected areas, untouchable zones, and urban centers (mining is on the rise in Ecuador, yet this question might prove decisive for the young industry’s future)
6.       Would get rid of the law of plusvalía, which essentially treats the sale of property of any kind as speculation, meaning that the seller must pay like 70% of the revenue from the sale to the state as tax
7.       Would expand the protected areas of the Yasuní National Park, the single most biodiverse place on earth that also sadly houses much of Ecuador’s oil reserves (this question would thus prohibit future oil drilling in Yasuní)
The general populace was expected to vote to pass all of them in what many see as a middle finger to the last president, Rafael Correa, and a vote of confidence for Moreno’s young regime. Yet that’s not how my host brother necessarily sees it. He doesn’t support the current regime, and he certainly didn’t support the last. According to him, both presidents have raised taxes, especially on imports, which has raised the cost of living significantly. In addition, neither president supports/ed policies that are favorable toward foreigners, something he doesn’t like. His perspective is quite interesting and will need to be investigated further. Another interesting thing about the referendum came when Sebastián told me that many voters don’t understand the wording of the questions, not to mention all the annexes that are on the flipside of the ballot page. Very interesting. Also last night I watched a government news channel ahead of the vote today. After going into detail about each of the questions, the focus turned to the actual process itself. Even though this is the 11th national referendum since the return to democracy in 1979, there are some new and exciting steps being implemented in this referendum. For example, there is a new electronic rapid-response exit-poll-type technology designed to report trustworthy results ahead of the official tally. Lots of domestic and international observers were invited to oversee the polls. Something that I guess isn’t new is that all ballots are translated into indigenous languages, and for the many hard-to-access communities scattered across Ecuador, the government helicopters ballots in so people can still vote. Another highly promoted feature on this program was the accessibility of all voting stations so that people with different abilities can still vote. The temptation at looking at this at first was to dismiss it as government propaganda, which it no doubt is. After all, in the U.S., elections are a piece of cake and no one ever has reason to question the outcome (except Trump lol). But, I had to catch myself. This is a country whose democracy is relatively young. Building up these institutions is key for achieving long-lasting social justice. Who am I to come in and laugh at things that Ecuadorians take pride in? Nonviolent, inclusive elections aren’t a given. So, I learned a lot more than I thought I would watching that program last night.
Today I accompanied my host brother, Matías, as he went and voted. It was quite the process to get to his assigned voting place. We had to take a bus probably a mile or so (which, in Quito traffic, took about 30 minutes) and walk to the destination. Although we didn’t know at first which street the school was on, so we were walking around asking people where it was. Finally, we found it, and I watched as Matías showed his I.D., was handed the piece of paper with each question labeled and color-coded, walked over to a schooldesk on which stood a cardboard trifold to act as a privacy shield, and deposited the ballot in the cardboard box in which was cut a slit to slip in the ballot. And home we went. At night, nos reunimos para cenar y mirar los comentarios a cerca de la votación. As expected, all measures passed. Now the country awaits the implementation of each question.
After lunch I had the opportunity to talk to the ones I love most. I cannot overstate how happy I was to reconnect with them and catch up, even just to see their faces and hear their voices. No matter where I am on this earth, I know where home is (:
Classes finally begin tomorrow. I’m actually looking forward both to their content and the sense of routine they’ll bring.
¡Hasta luego!

The motel is perfectly located at the start of HWY 23, so I didn’t have to dawdle through town every time I went out for a ride on those twisty Arkansas roads. Special towels were provided to wipe down the motorcycles each morning so as not to get the guest bath towels all greasy.
Very clean and friendly. Parking lot was full and the manager came out and moved her car and had us park right in front of the lobby. Great stuff
Very quiet with scenic view in the back overlooking the pool. Extremely clean and neat! Don’t worry about the older look of the hotel- the rooms are updated and our room fridge was way bigger than what we had at the Hilton. Plus we had a microwave! Question about tips on the good non-EIG hosting providers
I am a writer in tech, SEO and digital marketing. I am launching my own blog with 20 pages on it. So, it’s a super-small site.
Thus, I understand that I would be totally OK with virtually any decent hosting provider, including any EIG-controlled brand, since I don’t have a lot of scale here.
But, at the same time, I would like to write out a piece about how I picked the hosting provider, so I would like to actually understand why I’ve made the choice.
The brand that I personally like is GreenGeeks. I’ve talked with reps on the phone and I’ve talked with folks in the chat. Both experiences have been great and I am getting a very vibe from the business there.
The only problem is that they basically have a very thin web visibility and this is a big surprise to me. IN particular, because I am working in digital marketing. They don’t have an official reddit sub!
2. Conspiracy on domain checking
I’ve talked to bluehost a couple of times in chat over the last three days. THey are kinda weird. Today I’ve asked them whether the email was included in the Basic Package. They said to me – give us your email or site name, we need to track whether you actually make a sale. I ended up saying in caps “GIVE ME THE ANSWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” and then I just googled it.
With GreenGeeks, it’s the opposite. I actually called them on the phone and talked for 15 minutes – just about me, my blogging project, their customer care. 15 minutes, foks. Really. The girl’s name I don’t remember, but she was somehere from Europe. And nice too. Knowledgeable about the space.
A couple of days ago, I was checking one domain option. So, I went on one of the sites and it said to me – the domain name is not available. I was like – what the heck??? Then, other sites said that it was available.
So, my conspiracy idea is that they EIG-owned companies share the info on what domain names users check. They don’t immediately buy the domain names because:
a. you are not sure that the user will actually end up with that site.
b. if EIG started buying up domains, this would freak out the populace a lot.
But they are trying to do something about the access and sharing of this info. Since that site said that the domain name was unavailable, this signal must have impacted my behavior in some way. It’s possible that they are trying to figure out ways to use this info.
Would be greatful for any comments in this regard.
3. EIG stock
I hava a fried who invests in EIG, and I am a tech/SEO writer so I am getting deep into here. But I immediately went and checked the information about this company stock. The stock saw the 80% (!!!) fall since 2015 with the slump starting right after the purchase of “Contact Something”.
The company’s stock is falling though some reports say that their revenue is growing up. I am not that good at stock trading in order to understand the interplay of these two concurrent factors. But what I think is evident here is the following:
a. the company execs are slowly exiting their stakeholdings, leaving other folks as bagholders.
b. the revenue is growing at 11% per year (Google shows that ” A growth rate of 10 percent a year, sustained over time, is remarkably good.”). So, they are not losers revenue-wise.
c. a. and b. might mean that EIG might go through something like a bankruptcy within 3-5 years and then start growing.
d. Why would it start growing after the bankrupticy is done with? The company does own a suite of extremely powerful brands!!! It took me two full days to actually reveal this idea to myself. All of the chat support teams are atrocious in AIG-owned companied. I was surprised to see the very-similar customer care levels across multiple companies. And I thought that “it’s just the law of the land”. But then I bumped into GreenGeeks where it’s the opposite.
TIA, hosing people
