Blake - 19

Lives kinda reclusively in the human world, where he landed as a little kid, after stepping through a portal on accident. He sometimes interacts with a few other non-humans, though he unfortunately hasn't met a demon yet who could bring him back to the Demon Realms.

He lives in the woods and mainly hunts his own food, though he also likes to eat berries. A little abrasive, but not a bad guy, just really awkward. He gets pretty nice to be around once he warms up to someone, and he's pretty curious and likes to be able to learn new things!

He's on the skinny side, but really strong, though most of his strength is in his legs. Those horns are pretty dangerous too, though.

favorite type of monsterboy/girl?

Ooh this is a good question. Maybe lets just go by attributes.

I’m definitely fond of certain types of horns, curled above the head is nice. Not ramlike, i mean. But oni nubs or big oni horns (pairs of) are cute too. Demon boys with red/blue/purple/black/etc skin are just so cool. Same with cat eyes, or split/duplicated pairs

If we count TV-heads I think those are also good. I’m going to adjacently count robot boys under the same category, especially when made of like, semisoft suedesque polymer. I can’t really well describe it. Something for the joints that contrasts armored sections

I will say I’m definitely not a fan of like, cat nipples. More than 2 is weird.

Patches of monster skin are nice, and ones like naga are peak. Even without nice legs, they make up for it.

Diphallism is the best also. Like, peak #1 etc etc. Double frotting. Claws are okay. But not too clawlike. I’m kind of boring like that. Not a fan of birds/slimes/all kinds. Well. Slime can be okay as long as its more of an eldritch horror type. Like Hikaru.

Extra arms are interesting. Extra legs are kind of a waste though. Scylla are just like worse naga. I like the plain black spade tipped tail a lot too. Not sure how that’d look irl.

Zmeya is like the classic faerie you’ve heard from folklore. He loves to play jokes on mortals but is also willing to help them out if needed. He’s literally a snake oil salesman, he has snake tattoos that can turn into actual snakes. He has a wife and a son and he loves both dearly. He perpetually gives off “weird uncle vibes” but in a good way, like the one who will give you strange coins and heirlooms but doesn’t tell you where he got them. He’s a cynic by nature but he’s also surprisingly empathetic, he’s been around for hundreds of years but is always finding new ways to trick mortals. He’s an old snake daemon but he’ll always have fun with what humanity has to offer him

Looks to be about mid 40s. He has black shoulder length hair that’s messy but otherwise well taken care of, it has a gray streak in it as well. He has an aquiline nose and other general sharp features. He has a goatee and wears eyeliner. His nails are naturally black and he chooses to grow them out a bit. He has matching snake tattoos on both arms (that turn into actual snakes). He’s 5’11 which makes him the shortest out of his whole family. He has bright green snake eyes that can be spotted even in the dark. He likes to wear golden jewelry because he’s a fancy guyyy

just a little ghost guy. there's a black haired and white haired version of him bc i think that's the sexiest type of character designs. he's actually the manifestation of who people thought the alive version of him was, combined with his own ideal version of himself. he also hallucinates a black haired version of him who's a manifestation of who he thought he was (warped by self deprecation). both of him think the other one is the fucked up evil one. they're both right and wrong. this is all a metaphor for a lot of things. it's actual death but it's also "death" as in the tarot card. he always ends up dying and becoming a ghost or other supernatural creature in every universe because he's never happy with himself and never will be. (also because i think ghosts and monsterboys are hot.) he also gives me a lot of existential crisis because he's 18 and i made him wayyy before i was 18, and now im older than him.

oh this is fun ive always thought he's a very simple design that someone could draw just from a description. i know i have pictures but i want to try describing him anyway.

I want to talk a little about my current favorite Fortnite combination: the Jones Unchained skin and the Xenomorph tail back bling.

It's under a Keep Reading so I can potentially edit and adjust it as I go and add stuff.

I bought the skin because I thought it was neat, and that it looks so much like Chell's outfit from Portal 2.

I love messing around with the Xenomorph tail and putting it on various skins and coming up with AU ideas based on it, so I couldn't resist trying it out with Jones Unchained. And, from there, my imagination took off.

I've had several AUs swishing around in my brain, here's the minor ones before I get into the main one:

-Escaped monsterboy experiment/prisoner, may or may not be part Xenomorph and possibly just generic creature

-Variations on things with a female version of Jonesy (her full name is Joan Jones) as a Xenomorph monstergirl

-Female version of Jonesy is part Xenomorph Queen and has the fancy head crest and commands the regular Xenomorphs

-

SO, the current main AU is a little more complicated, because with a little tweaking of vaguely canon things, he could potentially be nearly canon compliant, which is super fun.

First, Agent Jones has visited the world of Alien, possibly on two different occasions. (Likely not and it was just for promo things, but still.)

So, the first promo is audio-only and has Jonesy presumably on the Nostromo. He's having some kind of heartburn issue, which could totally be taken as him having been implanted with a chestburster.

He probably should remember if he was facehugged, but maybe all the reality hopping temporarily scrambled him?

The second promo is a very cool video, presumably from Aliens, where Jonesy rescues Ripley from a group of Xenomorphs.

So, it's possible that this one takes place quite some time after the first promo. He seems to think he's got the wrong place in the first one, so maybe he jumped ahead and picked up Ripley (and apparently a Xenomorph, too, what were you thinking, Jonesy) there.

ANYWAY, there's at least two contact points with the Alien world that he's had, if you take both of these as canon.

My AU mostly uses the first promo, running with the theory that Jonesy got chestbursted.

How did he survive?

I haven't had a chance to read it yet, but supposedly it's revealed in the Marvel/Fortnite crossover comics that he's immortal and possibly hundreds of years old.

I'm not sure of the extent of his immortality, but if we go with nothing can kill him, then he could survive being chestbursted.

If I borrow the plot point of Ripley 8 from Alien Resurrection, who was a clone with Xenomorph DNA, but no monstery features, then there's canon support in Alien for human/Xenomorph hybrids.

SO, he got chestbursted, his immortality protected him from dying, and then when he healed, the residual Xenomorph DNA got mixed in with his own and he became a human/Xenomorph hybrid.

From there, maybe he was captured and locked up, because having a Xenomorph monsterboy agent running around is probably not a super great idea.

Fortnite also revels in AUs of characters, especially Jonesy. In some seasons of Fortnite, there've been multiple completely different Jonesys hanging around. The particular timeline of him going to the Alien world might not quite work with how I think his other AUs came to be BUT it's an AU, so there's loads of wiggle room. And, it doesn't necessarily have to be canon compliant, I just like the challenge of seeing how far I can take it and it still work.

TNBC Shower thought #6: Oog-booge revooge

If you've followed this blog long enough you probably noticed the distinct lack of a certain gambling boogieman on here despite him being a staple of the franchise. The in-canon explanation is scattered throughout the blog as to why Oogie still be very dead, but I just gotta be honest with you all: I don't dig giving Oogie Boogie 'depth'.

I especially don't dig giving him depth by way of him having a connection with any other (canon) characters. Why?

If we're being totally cynical here, Oogie exists in Nightmare souly to make Jack not look as bad because Jack is the real antagonist of the story, not Oogie.

Oogie is the villain, the one who likes enacting harm, Jack is the heroantagonist all in one, he doesn't mean any harm but all of what happens in TNBC is his fault.

Oogie only plays a part in Jack's Xmas specifically cuz of Jack's lack of oversight and carelessness; even without Jack's specific instructions, Santa and Sally being Oogie's victims are his fault, and it's why Jack has to be the one to save them in the end. Whether or not you think Jack learned his lesson or is a bad person and TNBC is 'bad actually'i s it's own deep dive, but personally I really like followup material that show Jack being his best self (Zero's Journey: peppy, monsterboy pumpkin king doing what he can) as opposed to his worst self (Kingdom Hearts/Oogies Revenge Jack: uber selfabsorbed manchild who never cares about others feelings, despite the movie implying he's learned to do better).

All of this is coming up for me because the newest comic book for Nightmare went into the writer's canon backstory and it delved into one the ideas I absolutely hate: Oogie and Jack were once friends.

Making Jack and Oogie friends in the past or even just amicable to each other is a REALLY big misstep on the part writers, because it makes Jack's murdering Oogie in the film so much worse.

Oogie Boogie's death was the one part of Nightmare that truly disturbed me as a child. Having Jack so passively and aggressively skin Oogie alive and do nothing but scowl as his insides fall out in agony already makes Jack look like a Christian Gray level non-comeuppance-sue but ESPECIALLY if you tack on the idea that Oogie and him were friends once!

Jack's not Optimus Prime or Superman who's all about enacting justice and fighting for what's right tm. He's Jack Skellington. He's still a scary monster Halloween king of nightmares you don't want to mess with. In Henry Selick's words on the 2008 commentary track for Nightmare, the citizens of Halloween Town aren't 'monsters' (bad people) and neither is Jack, really. He's scary because that's his job but he and his town never mean actual harm, it's just that what they ENDS UP doing by way of Jack also being a self absorbed manchild which makes him actually dangerous.

Oogie is the exception to that. I always felt even as a kid, that the implication for why he's locked up by the rest of Halloween Town was always pretty clear: Oogie does mean real harm. Oogie wants to hurt people. He has no delusions of grandeur like Jack, yes, but he wants you dead for his own pleasure and that's really not okay and not 'a good scare'.

"It's much more fun I must confess when life is on the line, not mine of course, but yours old boy, now that would be just fine!" - Oogie, kinning the guy who runs McKanney Manor

Even the demo version of the final fight makes clear Oogie's idea of 'fun' is torture:

"No Jack, messing with MY IDEA OF FUN!"

Jack coming to his own and actually doing something about Oogie should be a moment of "Jack really IS back! 8D! And he's actually finally doing something about the incelcryptobro in his basement that he knows everyone dead! Jack's being responsible! 8D 8D!" for the audience, not "wow. Jack is dirtbag who never faces consequences and murders people for problems he caused 8C. And the movie takes his side because Jack's 'cool' and Oogie just so happened to be causing harm. The movie gives Jack an excuse. 8C 8C"

I'm not saying the latter is what you end up taking away as a viewer. I'm saying that's not the vibe you want and it's why for, in Jack's story, which TNBC is, Oogie really should be just a big bully with no nuance of his own. Or at least, no nuance that means anything TO Jack.

Oogie Boogie is kind of basic. I personally love him for that even though I don't know exactly how to write him and I want to make TNBC stuff without him as a villain. But believe me- as a villain lover I totally get the need to try and make more out of our potato-sack daddy.

If you're rightfully mad that the one BIPOC-voiced character in the cast is the bland ebbul dude, that's beyond valid!!! (no- I don't think think the coding or casting was intentional, but the pro-segregation coding in Lion King also wasn't intentional...doesn't mean it isn't problematic).

If you simply want a more interesting villain-big-bad that exists to make the main hero look better, that's all fine and good too.

Me personally, I'm currently stumped on how to flesh out Oogie and not make him a complete, actual monster by Halloween Town's standards. I'm currently trying to think around this...but we'll have to wait and see...

My biggest issue is how, because he's fun while he kills people, some fans go the opposite route Oogie is made into a harmless hammy bafoon stripped of all his teeth and his real personality. I'm sorry to do this but Oogie is NOT in love with Sally. Oogie is not Sally's sassy best friend who's great at calling Jack out on his bad boyfriend-ness.

That's not Oogie Boogie. That's Angel Dust but that's not Oogie Boogie.

I like my Oogie being a bully. Not a puppy dog, not a tragic character, just an actual unbridled monster in the midst of this town of performance scarers.

But...That's just my take, not yours. If you love Oogie being perfect and flawless to counteract Jack's supposed 'perfectflawlessness', if you wanna see him as a real nuanced character because Oogie is definitely a fun one...right on. I'm not your mom.

But yeah, that's why Oogie doesn't appear too much in my comics except for in prequel stuff. Granted, I do want to do more with him but I'm stumped as for now so Oogie stays double dead.

If he does show up and makes friends, expect his friends to not be Jack and Sally because Sally's got better friends and no way would Oogie trust Jack after all Jack's put him through.
