I know that the early, non-Diasomnia stories aren't really your thing, but are you reading the novels at all?

I have been following some of the fan translations and the second book seems intense! Would love to hear what you think about them.

thank you! 💚💚💚 I'm not really sure why you think I don't like the earlier arcs though, I love pretty much all the characters and their storis! (I think 5 and 1 are my favorite of the past episodes, though 6 infected me with the Shroud brainrot something fierce.) I just...ESPECIALLY love diasomnia. :') but there is room in my heart for all of these dweebs! like, who among us is not just as ride-or-die for Adeuce as they are for us.

that said, I don't really follow the other adaptations like the manga (aside from a dip-in just to see the new Yuus) or the novels, though I keep meaning to check them out! I do like seeing the differences between the different forms of media, and how certain things get adapted one way or another! but alas, time/a lack of accessibility stands in our way more often than not. :( someday...someday I will have time to consume all of the media...

Not gonna go out on this limb on a 25k post, but maybe it’s okay that kids today don’t know as much about using an actual computer as we do/did? Is it useful knowledge? Of course it is. So is using a sewing machine or being able to rebuild your VW with a copy of that one book every VW driver used to have. That’s not the right question—most practical knowledge is useful after all. The question should be “is it relevant to the way people live right now.” “How to Keep Your VW Alive” is a timeless fucking classic; my ex and I kept our copy long after he sold his VW. But I’m not buying a copy now because it won’t exactly help me keep my VW ID4 on the road.

And it’s funny, because I tend to read along with those posts and nod my head, because back in my day we HAD to know all that computer stuff. And then for some reason today, I remembered a conversation my mom and I had with my grandma in the mid 70s when I was a teenager. Grandma made my mom’s wedding dress. She worked at a department store doing alterations on foundation wear, which if you look at 1950s foundation wear, you’ll realize was both necessary and difficult. So she was shocked when I said most of my friends didn’t know their way around a sewing machine. “But how do you make sure your clothes fit?!” Well, Grandma, people don’t wear heavy foundation wear any more and clothes don’t need to be as tailored as they did back in the day—it’s 1975 and the only alterations I need to do is hemming my flares so they just touch the floor when I’m wearing platforms.

Now you can back up and look at the broader picture, the one that says, but your car should be repairable by you as long as you have clear instructions, and you should be able to alter your clothes or make your own, and yes, you should know how to organize the files on the desktop of your laptop. But the fact that for the most part it’s become easier and easier to just not do those things (if they can be done at all) isn’t exactly the fault of Kids Today. And it’s certainly not meeting them where they are or even trying to understand why they feel they don’t need that knowledge if, instead of looking at why they don’t have it and maybe even don’t need it, you just decry their lack of the Deep Wisdom.

Evidence: Season 4 Episode 21 is a whole episode about her not being able to keep her focus while studying and needing alternative studying methods. She also cant keep still and needs to constantly be flying. It's never called "ADHD" but its very close. There is more but this is the episode focusing on it. You can read more out of the rest of the show. In the episode she also says she thinks she might be too dumb to learn anything which is a very familiar experience to people with ADHD.

deep in my heart of hearts I do think it's a little funny that everyone on this website has spent the last decade being actively hostile to any attempt tumblr has ever made to turn a profit (e.g. who remembers all of the "let's tank tumblr's value even more" jokes after the verizon > automattic sale) but now that tumblr is potentially entering its senescence people are acting legit surprised that its corporate owners aren't eager to shovel more cash into this money pit. idk why anyone would think the churning gears of capitalism would suddenly come to a halt and make an exception for a microblogging website started by a bunch of hipsters in 2007.

ultimately I do think tumblr suffers from having a userbase that's almost uniquely impossible to make money off of. I struggle to imagine any way this website could get out of the red considering that its users are generally resistant to ads (and running ads isn't super lucrative anyway unless you have a huge network and collect facebook/insta levels of audience data/PII, of which tumblr does neither. plus facebook/insta eliminates a lot of middleman fees because they are their own ad platform) and almost no one is gonna cough up money on a service they've been using for free for years. and before someone goes "well they should just make this website a public good and/or nationalize it" please go sit in the corner and spend some time coming up with (1) an honest forecast of how likely it is that'll occur in the next five years and (2) a list of steps that need to happen to get there and a list of resources necessary to keep it running afterwards. and before someone goes "I think tumblr should forget about profitability and keep the lights on indefinitely/focus on making users happy" please tell me what world you inhabit where everything runs on monopoly money and good intentions. I would love to visit someday.
