Picture This | Balam Shichirou x Reader
Fandom: Mairimashita Iruma-kun
Pairing: Balam Shichirou x GN! Reader
Word Count: 2.1k
Genre/Tags: Fluff
Summary: You find out about the kind and gentle Balam Shichirou and meet him with a proposition of your own.
A/n: I have known this demon for 3 episodes and I'm in LOVE;; so I basically got possessed by the sudden urge to write something for him. he's the kindest, the sweetest, the BEST TEACHER EVER 😭 I love teachers like him so much, this was very self-indulgent and kinda just me admiring him hehe... I hope you enjoy this short thing I wrote, even though there's a high chance that he might be slightly ooc since I haven't known him for longer than 3 episodes.
also available on ao3!
The chatter in the class was a low hum as everyone worked on their own worksheets that you had just printed out. The Apocalypse Test was close and as a new teacher at Babyls, you wanted your first results to reflect well. If the results were not good then that would mean you had to work harder as a teacher.
Tumblr media
You were walking amongst the students, listening in on their discussions or aiding them in finding where the answer could be found in the textbook. It was an open book, open discussion worksheet solving session and you were pleased with how well the students seemed to be handling it without making too much noise. The abnormal class could be really serious about studying when they put their mind to it, huh?
The bobbing of a blue head caught your attention and you walked closer to Iruma's seat. As always, he was sitting between Alice and Clara but the three of them were referring to their own books. (Except for Clara; you were pretty sure the book in her hand had nothing to do with studying…) The book in Iruma's hand was one you had never seen before but it looked interesting.
"Iruma-kun?" You stopped in front of his desk and looked down at the book curiously. Said boy startled and looked up in panic until he realised it was just you. "Where did you get this book?"
"Oh!" He gave you a warm smile, the kind that always made you smile in return. "Balam-sensei gave it to me because I was… y'know… struggling to understand."
"Can I see it?" You asked, curiosity taking a hold of you. Iruma handed you the book and you leafed through it. Surprisingly, it was a picture book with really easy explanations. Whoever wrote it had your gratitude; these were the kind of books that made learning enjoyable and less daunting. You closed it and looked at the cover to check the author's name. "Huh? Balam Shichirou…? Balam-sensei wrote this book?"
"Yes!" Iruma beamed at you. "He made some of them especially for me."
"That's wonderful," you felt touched even though you had never met the man. When you had aspired to be a teacher, this was the kind of teacher you were aiming for. Somebody who helped even the students who were struggling to understand, from the basics so they could build a stronger structure of knowledge on it. "Is it easier for you to understand this way?"
"It is," Iruma admitted, shyly scratching the back of his neck. You smiled and lightly patted the top of his head, startling the boy a little.
"I'll keep that in mind for my next class," you said. "And while I'm grateful for Balam-sensei… Why didn't you tell me if you were struggling to understand my teaching, Iruma-kun? I would have adjusted for you."
You pouted at him so he knew you weren't seriously mad at him; just a little upset.
"No, no, no!" The boy panicked and shook his hands in a negating gesture. "That's not it, (y/n)-sensei!! I just didn't want to burden you because I was the only one struggling even with your easy explanations… I guess having it in written form like this just helps to remember what you've already taught."
"It's not a burden, Iruma-kun," you reminded him. "It's my job as a teacher to make sure you understand. If you don't understand something, that's my responsibility. If you're worried about being a bother to the rest of the class, you can always come to me after the classes are over to get a quick personalised lesson."
"Eh?" He looked surprised. "Wouldn't that take up your time, sensei?"
"If it helps my students then it's time well spent!"
After your classes for the day were done, you asked around the staffroom for where you could find Balam Shichirou. Kalego gave you the directions and you made your way to his office, curious about what kind of person he must be and how he would look. From whatever Iruma had told you, he already sounded like a kind person and a great teacher. You found the door and knocked on it before looking inside.
"Balam-sensei?" You asked. There was a demon with long white hair sitting on a table, writing something down, who startled at your voice. "Can I come in?"
"O- Oh, yes, please!" He seemed a little confused by your presence but you stepped in and closed the door behind yourself. There was an empty stool across the table so you sat down on it. "Um, (y/n)-sensei, would you like some Hell Grey Tea?"
"Oh!" You hadn't expected him to know your name. Suddenly, it felt embarrassing that you had never heard of him before this. "Yes, thank you for the offer, Balam-sensei."
He nodded and got up to make you some. He worked in silence so you took the time to look around his office. The shelves full of books were eye-catching and your hands were already itching to dig into them and read all the unfamiliar volumes. Your eyes drifted over to the book sitting in front of you that Balam was working on. Your eyes widened when you realised it was another picture book, this one on one of the battles that had occured some centuries ago. Your hands moved to check it before you could even think that it would be rude.
"Here you go– oh, you saw my book," Balam placed the tea just out of the way enough so that you wouldn't accidentally bump it. "Do you… like picture books, (y/n)-sensei?"
"Not particularly," you admitted as you skimmed through what was already drawn and written. "But I like to read so picture books are fun too! I suppose I never got much into them because my home was full of textual books and I liked those just fine so I never had any picture books as a kid. I may not know much about them, but this is really well-written, Balam-sensei! You draw so well too."
"Oh," the other demon pinked at your words as he took his seat. "Thank you. I'm glad you like it. I'm making this one for a student but you could borrow a different one if you're interested."
"Ah! That reminds me why I came here," you beamed at him, gently placing the book back where you had picked it up from. "I saw the picture book you gave Iruma-kun in my class today. Our subjects have a small section that overlaps so he was referring to the book you made for him and I couldn't help noticing it. It was truly so easy to understand and it gave me the idea that such a method would be helpful with other subjects too."
"Really?" He seemed surprised by your words but you could tell that he was also touched. "I would like to share them with all the students too, but for some reason, they keep running away when I try to show them my picture books."
"Ah," you leaned back when you realised that you had accidentally leaned over in your excitement. The other teachers in the staffroom had told you about Balam's reputation amongst the students. "I'm sure they would benefit from it. I could share your books with some of my students if that works for you, Balam-sensei. And, if you would be interested, I wanted to try making a picture book explaining my subject too. It's a huge task and I would compensate you accordingly for your time and efforts–"
"You…" If Balam had seemed shocked before, it was nothing compared to his face now. Although his mouth was covered by a metal mask, you could tell from how wide his eyes had gotten. "You want to… make a picture book… with me?"
"Only if you're interested!" You bit your bottom lip nervously. "I personally really liked your books and I thought it would be a great way to learn for the students who have a weaker or slower grasp of understanding. Since I'm not very familiar with the process, I thought it would be amazing if I could have the aid of your experience. I understand if it's a commitment that you don't have the time for, and there's no guarantee that it will work out but I would love to at least try it with you."
"I would love to," Balam uttered softly and even without seeing his mouth, you could tell that he was gently smiling at you with how his eyes curved just so. The sight made your heart unexpectedly quicken and you fidgeted in your seat, picking up the Hell Grey Tea you had forgotten about. "I didn't think any of the other teachers liked me much but I'm very happy that you thought of me when you wanted to try this out."
"I don't think they dislike you, Balam-sensei," you smiled from behind the cup of tea. "But I suppose people just get so caught up in appearances and assumptions. People who have much to hide seem dangerous at first glance and we don't take time to get to know them if we can help it. I admit I might have fallen prey to the same kind of thinking if I hadn't heard about you from Iruma-kun. I could tell you were a kind and wonderful teacher from the way he spoke about you."
Balam's eyes widened and for a second, you thought his eyes seemed glassy. You blinked and the light was gone but Balam's eyes were still the soft shape. Now that you took the time to study his face, you realised he was quite handsome. The thought made you accidentally slam your tea cup down on the table in panic and the ceramic broke, startling the both of you.
"Oh no, I'm so sorry!!" You were flustered but you hurriedly tried to collect the pieces together without hurting yourself. "I'm so clumsy…"
"It's okay," Balam reassured you, coming over to your side to help you pick up some of the pieces. "I'll take them to the trash. Are you hurt?"
"I don't– oh, just a little it seems," you had a very tiny cut from a sharper piece you had picked up. It didn't hurt. You waved it off as you carefully put the pieces you had collected in Balam's large gloved hands. "Nothing to worry about. It will be healed in a day or two. I really am sorry for troubling you, Balam-sensei!"
"I told you, it's fine."
He carefully threw away the trash then returned to you with an ointment from his desk drawer. You had stuck the finger into your mouth to suck at the blood and stop the flow but it felt embarrassing when you realised that Balam was watching you. You hurriedly removed the finger and tried to find a cloth to wipe it off but Balam crouched in front of you and asked for your hand silently. You ended up placing yours in his and watched him carefully pat it off before putting on the ointment.
"Thank you," you blushed fiercely when he was done and still hadn't let go of your hand. In fact, he was now standing up and holding both your arms in his own; the proximity was making your heart beat unnaturally fast. "Um, Balam-sensei..?"
"Yes?" He asked, blinking down at your comparatively smaller form in his arms.
"Y- You can let go of me now," you mumbled. Your words made him stutter and he let go in a panic.
"I- I'm so sorry, I just tend to do that without thinking!" He was blushing too, embarrassed. Balam didn't want to make you uncomfortable after you had been so nice to him. For once, he was actually getting along with someone new. For that matter, you were the one to approach him first! Not to mention, he had found you really beautiful when he had first seen you in the staffroom, laughing at Dali's joke. You hadn't seen him then, but that brief memory flashed in his mind when you softly giggled.
The sound of your laugh made his heart skip a beat. Balam stared at you as you flashed him a warm smile.
"If you wanted to hold me, you could have just asked, Balam-sensei!" You beamed and opened your arms for a hug. "I don't mind you touching me. I was just surprised."
Oh.
Balam's hands twitched for a second, the same nervousness he felt when Iruma tried to touch him popping up. But this time, it felt a bit different. The nervousness in his stomach felt like those fantastical creatures called butterflies that he had read about. His heart seemed to be thumping louder than usual too.
It was only when his larger frame swallowed yours into a gentle grip that he realised. He could feel the outline of your smile against his bicep.
Ah, this was what they called a crush, huh?

Warning: This is a tickle fic, if you’re not into that then please keep scrolling, thank you!! ✌🏻 It is SFW tho!
Fandom: Welcome to Demon School, Iruma-kun!
Reblogs are totally fine and appreciated but please don’t repost! Thank youuuuu! (*´꒳`*)
Can you tell that I was heavily influenced by my favorite ship, Iruazz?
Asmodeus was feeling a little distracted. He’d invited Iruma over today so that just the two of them could hang out. It was great hanging out as a trio with Clara, but sometimes he wanted one on one time. The day had been going well, but then Asmodeus found himself very fixated on something: Iruma’s ears. They were so small and round and cute!! How had he not noticed this before?!
At first, he’d tried not to stare. But then Iruma had swept his hair back into a little ponytail and now he found himself transfixed. Small, round, cute. Small, round, cute. small. round. cute. He was pretty sure he’d missed the last few things Iruma had said, but he couldn’t help himself.
Entranced, he found himself leaning forward, his fingers reaching without his permission —
“Eep!”
Well that certainly got Asmodeus’ attention. He looked down and realized that he had pinched the top of Iruma’s right ear, thereby causing the aforementioned boy to squeal. Oh devils was that cute…
“I-Iruma-sama! My sincerest apologies! I did not mean to startle you. It’s just, I’ve never noticed how round and cu - I mean small your ears are! I might have gotten a little carried away. Again, my apologies.”
“O-oh, it’s okay Azz-kun,” Iruma said with a sheepish smile. “It just tickled a little is all”
Ticklish. Iruma-sama is ticklish. His brain overloaded. Iruma-sama was so cute so cute so devi-cute!!!! Play it cool, Asmodeus.
“Oh, I see. Yes, that makes sense.” How was that playing it cool?!
After a few moments, he tentatively asked:
“If I am more careful, w-would it be okay for me to touch them again? I-if it’s not weird, Iruma-sama I just noticed that our ears are so different and —”
“It’s okay Azz-kun, go ahead!” Iruma beamed.
Oh devils this boy was going to be the death of him.
“R-right, h-here I go”
He leaned forward again, focused intently on his task. Truly, Iruma-sama’s ears were like nothing he had ever seen. He made a point to be more gentle this time, which he hoped would help. After a few moments though, he noticed that Iruma’s ear was slowly turning red. Without thinking, he blew softly on it, hoping to cool it down. That was the reason it had turned such an adorable shade of red, right? He was dimly aware of some light chuckles and Iruma squirming. When he looked at Iruma-sama’s face, it too was turning a light shade of red.
Oh. Right. Oh devils. He should stop now, he should really stop —
Chomp.
“Wah! Azz-kun?!”
Yeah, he definitely wasn’t going to be able to stop. You know what they say about demons and desires and all that.
He continued nibbling on Iruma’s ear, now with the sounds of light giggles coming from nearby.
“A-Azz-kun? Are you ehehe d-done looking at my ears haha??”
Iruma was met with more vigorous nibbles.
“I-is this a normal wahahay t-to lohohook at s-someone’s ears?? I-it tihihihckles Azz-kun!” the giggles were getting harder to stop.
Asmodeus was long gone. Not in a wicked phase sort of way though. Actually, he wasn’t worried about his wicked phase coming around for a long while now, not with this adorable stress reliever in his hands. But all common sense had gone out the window the second he’d gently chomped down on Iruma’s ear. It was so soft!! And Iruma-sama’s giggles had to be in the top 3 cutest things he’d ever heard. He wanted to hear more; he couldn’t possibly stop now. His fingers appeared to agree as well, as they started fluttering lightly over Iruma’s neck, eliciting even more giggles from the boy.
“A-Azz-kun, hehehehell to Azz-kun! Y-you’re tihihihickling me! P-please! Aha!”
His squirming was getting more deliberate now as any self-control for Azz’s curiosity was losing to the overwhelming ticklish feelings on his neck and ear. He tried looking up towards Azz, but the demon let out a slight growl and continued his shenanigans. Iruma was left to helplessly giggle and hope for a break. He tried holding out for a while longer, but eventually pleaded:
“H-hehehehello?? I-I d-dohohon’t know hohohow much mohohore I can tahahahake, A-Azz-kun!” and with that he gently pushed his hands against the demon’s chest for the first time. That seemed to register.
“I-Iruma-sama?” he blinked.
“A-Azz-kun hehehey. S-sorry i-it just hehe tickled a lot and I couldn’t, “ he blushed more, “My ears are really sensitive.”
Asmodeus looked down with a mix of remorse and disappointment. His whole face was bright red, all the way to the tips of his pointy ears. When he finally met Iruma’s eyes, they were pleading.
“Could I tickle you a little more? P-please? Iruma-sama?”
Ba-dump. Oh devils. That face. Those eyes. That word. He never could say no when people said please. Well… maybe it wasn’t so bad to laugh a little. And Azz-kun had stopped when he’d truly asked.
“U-Um, s-sure. I-if you want, I-I guess. I-I suppose I c-could try to lahast a little longer” he said with a blush. Could his face get any hotter?? What had he just agreed to?
Asmodeus didn’t need to hear anything more. He pulled Iruma back into his chest and went straight for his left ear, receiving a fresh round of giggles in return.
“W-wahaha! I-I wasn’t ready! Hehe this is eheheven wohohohorse. Y-yohohour f-fangs tihihihihickle sohoho muhuhuch!!”
Asmodeus wrapped an arm around Iruma’s waist to keep him from squirming away. With his free hand, he scribbled the back of Iruma’s neck, enjoying the fresh round of hysterics and pleading. When he’d had his fill there, his hand roamed down to Iruma’s shoulder blades. Much to his delight, this produced a new response:
“EEP! Ahaha!! W-wait haha I-I’ve n-never beheheen tihickled thehehere. Ehehehe!! A-Azz-kun!! Ahahaha!!”
Iruma-sama really isn't helping himself calling my name like that. He stopped nibbling for a moment to say:
“I-Iruma-sama, if you want me to stop, then y-you’ll have to stop being so cute”
There was a pause. Well, it was official, Iruma’s face could get even hotter. But before he could think about what had just been said too much, the tickling resumed.
“C-cute?! I-I’m nohohot!! W-whahahat w-waiaiait w-what dohoho you mehehean?? Ahahaha g-go somewhere ehehelse p-please!!”
Asmodeus chuckled, sending reverberations into Iruma’s ear. He shivered.
“I suppose you are right as always, Iruma-sama. You will never not be cute. Silly me. I suppose you’ll be stuck like this forever then.”
“Wahahahahaha!!” was all Iruma could say in response. He had covered his face with his hands. Teasing, he’s teasing me! That makes it so much worse.
Iruma had erupted into full-blown laughter now, and sensing that he needed a change of pace, Asmodeus started scribbling up and down the boy’s sides with both hands. Above the desperate pleas and squirming he whispered into Iruma’s right ear,
“Don’t even think of escaping, Iruma-sama. I’m not finished with you yet.”
Iruma figured if he could melt into a puddle, he would. His pleas became incoherent babbles as he wondered what in hell had gotten into Asmodeus today. He wondered if maybe he should have been more careful. After all, this was a demon tickling him. Who knew how torturous it would be? Was this how tickling always went in the demon realm?
       ・・・・・・・・・
Ribs. Sides. Back. Tummy. Ears. Neck. Collarbones. All Iruma could do was laugh as Asmodeus played him like a violin. He reached new octaves when he felt black-tipped fingers slip into his armpits — and he redoubled his efforts to scramble away.
“Yahahahaha nahahahahaha A-Azz-kuhuhuhuhun p-plehehehehease c-can’t t-tahahahahake ihihihit!!!!”
“Surely you can take it, Iruma-sama. I know you can because you are magnificent in every way. Even your laughter is magnificent — “
“S-stohohohop t-teheheheheasing mehehehehehe!! Nahahahahahaha!!”
“ — you are truly worth following, I am proud to be your friend.”
“Ahahahahahaha A-A-Ahahahahzzzz!!!!! H-happy tohohoho behehehe your frihehehend too, b-but ahahaha ihihit tihihihihihickles sohohoho bahahahahad!!”
“There is a simple explanation for that, Iruma-sama. You are the best at everything, of course. So you are also the best at being ticklish!”
“B-behehest at beheheing tihihihihicklihihish?!? Ihihis thahahat eheheven a gohohohohod thihihing??”
“Of course it is! Allow me to demonstrate, using a technique I learned from our Torture class —”
Torture?! thought Iruma. Oh devil, this was it, Azz-kun had figured out that he was a human and trying to torture it out of him —
Suddenly, Asmodeus reached down and kneaded his thumbs into Iruma’s hips.
“Ah —,” Iruma sucked in a breath. “GAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHH!!!!!!”
Iruma’s nerve-endings jolted and his whole body spasmed. If he’d been taller, he might have smacked his head into Asmodeus’ chin. But as it was, Iruma was quite small, so he slammed his head back into the demon’s chest instead. He continued to scream incoherently.
“AHAHAHAHAYAHAHAHAHAAHAHA!!! NAHAHAHAAHAHAH H-HEHEHEHEHELP MEHEHEHEHEHE S-SOMEBOHOHOHOHOHODY HEHEHEHEHEHHEHEHEHELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
“Oh but Iruma-sama, you gave the tickle monster permission,” Asmodeus purred. “No one is coming to save you now.”
Iruma was much too busy with flailing and laughing to reply. He could barely think of anything except how much it tickled. What had they been doing before this? How long had it been? Was Azz-kun torturing him for real or just being playful? Such thoughts were long gone. His nerves were singing and he was trying to keep up.
“WAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA AZKHXJAHVIKAHVDX YAHAHAHAAHA”
The thing that finally brought Asmodeus out of his reverie was when Iruma’s laughter went silent. He knew the boy was stilling laughing, since he could feel the reverberations, but the room had gone silent. Then it really registered what that meant, and he quickly stopped. The boy kept laughing even after, slowly dying down into giggles. Asmodeus was too afraid to face him, so he wrapped both arms around Iruma and pulled him close to his chest.
“I am sorry, Iruma-sama. It seems I let my feelings get the better of me. I will need to continue training to make sure that i-it does… not happen again… please forgive me.”
There were a few moments of silence. Iruma’s heartbeat was still trying to return to a normal pace.
“Actually,” Iruma said, “it was… kind of fun….” he finished quietly. The tops of his ears were blazing red.
“I’ve never had a proper tickle fight with a friend, er well, it wasn’t much of a fight, but you know what I mean…”
“Y-you’ve never been tickled before?!” Asmodeus exclaimed.
“Well, maybe a couple times. But they aren’t super fond memories for me.” he paused. “But today was different. It wasn’t so bad in the beginning when you were being gentle. Then you started tickling harder and I definitely panicked a little, but honestly Azz-kun, it wasn’t so bad after all! Not being able to do anything but laugh turned out to be surprisingly relaxing. And, I feel safe… with you.” Iruma turned and looked up at him with a blinding smile.
Asmodeus’ heart soared and he found himself blushing and grinning uncontrollably. Iruma-sama is just so wonderful and thoughtful. He always knows just what to say to me.
“I-Iruma-sama, thank you!! I am so grateful for your trust!!” he beamed. “D-does this mean that…?!” he asked excitedly.
Iruma chuckled at his friend’s enthusiasm.
“Yeah, just remember to be gentle with me! And stop when I ask” he responded with a small grin.
“Of course, Iruma-sama!!!”
“And next time I want to be able to get you back!!” he said playfully.
“Absolutely! I will wait in anticipation, Iruma-sama!”
Asmodeus was sure he had never felt so happy and lucky in all his life.

The pebble
.... so you've somehow, someway have done the equivalent of a marriage proposal without realizing it. To Balam of all demons. Who accepted it.
One part of your brain was still in the wait, what just happened phase. But another part was running around hands in the air and screaming. "YES, YES, YES!" And course your greedy side was singing. "Mine, mine, mine, he's all mine!"
Overall, no regrets. You could live with this. In fact, he accepted, so no take backs, no returns. To think is all started with a shiny rock you found.
*earlier that day*
You had just been wandering the gardens, nothing really on your mind. That's when you spotted something glittery from the corner of your eye. There, by the edge of one of the ponds, was a pebble. You knelt down and carefully picked it up. How pretty!
It was maybe half the size of your palm and somewhat smooth except for the rough edging on its left side. The color was deep blue. With specks of purple, and was that silver along the jard edge? It reminded you of something.
You stood up and lifted it to the light, getting an even better view of the reflective surface. It was so colorful and so soothing to fiddle with in your hand. Releasing a pleased hum, you pocketed your find and walked back inside.
Zipping down the hall, you made your way to the den where the children were currently doing their homework. You laughed when Clara and Lied tackled you whining about the piles of work they still had. You cooed and petted both their heads before nudging them off you.
"Okay. Tell me what you don't understand and we'll go from there." Soon, all the kids were huddled tail and limbs around you as you helped with homework and talked about upcoming projects. How comfy this place felt now that it was full of life just about every day.
"Is Balam-sensei coming over later?" Iruma asked egarly as he tenderly held one of the books his teacher had gifted to him. You beamed and reached out to pinch his cheek. "Course he is how can he not want to spend time with such cute students!" Making several of the kids laugh.
"You two have been getting along well, haven't you?" Giggled Elizabetta, her tail swinging playfully back and forth. You narrowed your eyes at her for a moment before flicking her forehead. "Ow." You watched her pout for a minute before smiling.
"You're getting cheeky, aren't you. That's what you get for taking after your mentor." Playfully wagging a finger at her. "But it's no surprise that Balam-sensei is head over heels for you. He practically has hearts in his eyes whenever he sees you." Lied piped up, and you ruffled his hair as you tried to hide your embarrassment.
Of course, more of your kids chimed in, ganging up on you. "Yeah, yeah, super lovey dovey." Pops up an excited, Clara. "You two do make a lovely couple." Alice nodding happily. "I wouldn't mind another parent. Balam-sensei is cool and very nice to us." Jazz says casually, leaning against your shoulders, preventing any escape.
You spotted opera and Sullivan peering into the room mischief in their eyes. You knew exactly where the kids got the idea now. You mouthed 'traitors', and they quickly disappeared.
So this is how you would die. Out of pure embarrassment. There was a knock on the door. Oh, thank devi. You scrambled up and out of the pile. "I've got it! I've got it! Nobody else gets up!" Dashing to the front door. Yanking the door open, you saw the Demon in question.
He reached out and cupped your face gently so that he didn't hurt you. "Are you alright? Your face is red? You didn't have to run. I could have waited." Carefully turning your face before lifting you up for a closer look.
"No, no, I'm fine, just embarrassed is all," you laugh nervously as you attempt to wave off his concern. Looking at him face to face, you couldn't help but recall the conversation from before, causing a darker blush to spread.
"The kids will be happy to see you." You quickly changed the subject. "Their in the den." He cradled you to his chest, and you relaxed. It was your favorite spot, after all. Making his way inside, you avoided the kids' gazes and just listened to them interact with Balam-San.
You couldn't help but stare at him as your thoughts roamed freely. He was so sweet. A calming presence in the wild hellish world you now lived in. He had helped you and all your kids more than once. He was strong, an unyielding shield that protected all he stood before.
Honestly, you doubted you could have survived long without his assistance. Thankfully, Opera had the foresight to introduce the two of you. You smiled at the memory.
*flashback to adoration your pov*
You hadn't known much, well actually you knew nothing about the world you found yourself now living in. But that moment when you turned around and saw him staring at you kneeling in the entryway. Well, the way he looked at you made you feel special. You felt like you were some kind of artwork in his eyes, a long-lost mater piece brought to light.
His size alone should have intimidated you. Kneeling, he was still a little taller than you. But maybe it was the fact that he was so lost in thought that made you approach carefully. One step then two. Till you stood before him in the light waiting for him to realize your flaws.
That moment never seemed to come. In fact, it was harder to tell with his wild hair and the mask that covered half his face, but you could have sworn he was crying. He was crying! What a silly demon. You couldn't help but laugh.
You remember what Opera had briefly mentioned to you before meeting him. "He's been wanting to meet a human his entire life. He'll probably overwhelm you with questions and constant touches, but it's doubtful He'll ever harm you." The words brining comfort to you in that moment.
"I hear you've been waiting a long time for me. Is that true?" You prompted, watching as his head bobbed rapidly. 'So pretty.' You remember thinking in that moment seeing the bright colored eyes reflecting your image. "You know something?" You teased out, watching him as he subconsciously leaned forward.
You brought yourself closer, too, and it felt safe. Surprisingly safe and warm as you made sure he was making eye contact. "I think you and I are going to get along just fine. Please take good care of me." You giggled. Reminded of him stuttering out his reply. "O-of course."
*end flashback*
The happiness in those eyes radiant like starlight. You shake yourself out of the memory to realize you had been left alone with Balam. How he was still holding you as he read a book. Seeming content. His heartbeat is slow and calm.
"Mmmh, so they all left us, huh?" You teased. He chuckled. "It seems so." You shifted only to feel the weight in your pocket. Oh! The pebble. That gave you an idea.
"Hold out your hand." You instructed as you sat up straighter and pulled out your shiny treasure. That's what it reminded you of, Balam himself. He held out his hand curiosity in his eyes.
Carefully, you placed it in his palm and smiled. "It reminded me of you. It's so pretty. I'm sure you'll like it!" The gargoyle could only stare at it with wide eyes as you smiled confidently. "A-are you sure?" He seemed to stumble.
"Of course, I'm sure! It's almost the exact same shade as your eyes! I'll show you wait there while I get a mirror!" You jumped off of him and rushed to the bathroom where you recalled setting down a hand mirror this morning.
**Balams pov**
... his brain was not functioning correctly. In his palm, he held a saints tear. One of the rarest minerals in the netherworld. And to top it all off, you just handed it to him. Saying that, he resembled it! A bright red blush covered his face, thankfully contained by his mask.
How did you know this was how gargoyles courted?!?! Presenting a simple pebble was usually how it went, but you were giving him a priceless gift! The darker the color, the more expensive they were. Hesitantly, he rubbed the near smooth surface. A courting gift.
What was his human thinking??? They needed to make a nest with plenty of room for the kids and to ask Sullivan for his blessing. Wait! Did humans even build nests? He'd have to ask iruma! He sped up the stairs and opened the door to said boys' room. "Iruma!"
Big blue eyes stared up at him innocently, unaware of the large demons' internal crisis. "Yes, Balam-sensei?" He asked. "H-how do hu-humans court? Do you build nests? What should be given in return?" The teenagers' eyes bulged in shock at the overwhelming amount of questions.
"Well, I mean, I thought you were already courting Balam-sensei. That is well. You two are always cuddling and playing with each other's hair. You always eat together. And you help them with all of us even though you don't have to, and they never once asked you. Umm, humans don't really build nests, but we like comfort, and they always seem to be comfortable with you or in your vines, so I don't think it's a problem. As for gifts, um, most do jewelry, but Grandpa gives them lost of jewelry, so o don't think that will work. Maybe something handmade?"
He found himself listening with rapid attention nodding egarly for more information, but before he could ask anything else he heard. "Balam? Shichirou? Where did you go?" Panic entered his mind he hadn't said yes yet! What if they thought he ran off!??!
Zooming back down the stairs, he barely stopped behind you. "Oh, there you are! Look at you. You have your poor feathers all ruffled up. Such a shame they're so lovely, too." As they reached out and attempted to settle zome of his neck fluff, an idea came to mind.
**you currently**
You were momentarily startled when balam lifted you up and set you down on the couch. He knelt down so that both of you were of closer height. He seemed nervous, and you weren't sure why. Taking a deep breath, he took hold of both your hands.
"I-I never thought that there wo-would be an-anyone that wanted me. I'm not ex-exactly a catch by demon standards." You reared up about to fight anyone who had ever said anything, but he squeezed your hands, getting you to focus again.
"But I am so glad. Extatic that you would gift me something so precious." You blinked... was he talking about the rock? "I promise I will always cherish it, and I accept your offer in courting." Oh my devi, he was talking about the rock. How did he think this was a courting gift???
"I ca-can't offer you much in return, but I -I hope these will do for now." He pulled out a few of his own feathers and slowly weaved them into your hair. Tears began to swell in your eyes. Oh! "Perfect." You whispered in awe.
Throwing your arms around him tightly. "It's perfect! Don't get me anything else! I'll be so mad if you even try." You croaked out on the verge of sobbing. A pleasant rumble escaped the demons large chest as he held you against him.
You snickered for a moment. "What is it?" He asked you. "Ah, I just thought that this means Kalego-San will have to come over more if he wants to see you." More laughter spilled out, and the gargoyle also tried to muffle his own laughs at the looks of horror and distain his colleague was sure to have when given the news.
He watched as you pleasantly played with the feathers now decorating your hair. ☆one perfect pebble, just one humble stone. But oh, what a stone can do~ it means that I have one love forever and one love alone. A now and forever with you~☆ You kissed his temple as he stared at you in amazement.
"Does this mean we get to call Balam-sensei dad now?" Both of you jumped startled by Soi's question. Sneaky child. You could see the others on the stairs looking hopeful. You returned your gaze to shichirou, who appeared to be swelling with pride and embarrassment.
"Were kinda a package deal. You want one of us, you gotta take all of us." The playful smile on your lips as you nudge him to answer. "I'd be honored." The words coming out with reverence and joy. Leading to a large 'family' cuddle pile.

IruClarAzz Master Post Part 11
Just collecting all of the cuteness of the Love Trio and adding my commentary. Spoilers ahead very current with the manga. (Also warning I may make jabs at the IruAmeri ship here and there just small comparisons showing why I don’t like it as much, no hate but if you don’t like your ship being talked about even slightly negatively probably look away.)
If you didn’t see it Part 1 is here, Part 2 is here, Part 3 here Part 4 here  Part 5 here Part 6 here Part 7 here Part 8 here Bonus here Part 9 here Part 10 here
Tumblr media
Once more we get the visualization Irumas "harem" and once more Azz is here.
Tumblr media
I love that Clara is just lounging on him, anyway Ameri's dad fully hates him now.
Tumblr media
Anyway Clara shows Iruma and Azz what their club has been working on and its
Tumblr media
Very Clara, and very based in Iruma
Tumblr media
I like that Clara is like more on the side with Iruma and Azz, she does point out just mixing all ideas worked before.
Tumblr media
Their shocked looks
Tumblr media
Looking over the Haunted House idea in manga
Tumblr media
Once more the trio is separated visually from the rest
Tumblr media
All of them working hard on the Haunted House idea
Tumblr media
I like that Azz destroys his ummm art and Clara comforts him while Iruma frets (they'll be such good parents)
Tumblr media
I love how they both did an absurd amount of work that really led to nothing.
Tumblr media
Like you get to the root they are very similar, an.d Iruma is just so overwhelmed.
Tumblr media
Azz is embarrassed by his lack of art talent but Clara seems to like it.
Tumblr media
But he can draw Iruma perfectly (I wonder how he'd do drawing Clara) also Clara takes the pic again.
Tumblr media
Again they are visibly separated.
Tumblr media
Silivia reveals she's actually good at drawing and again Love trio front and center which is odd considering Chima is her friend.
Tumblr media
They are shocked by the size of their lot, also we get all their matching rings shown.
Tumblr media
This space to fill makes them feel confident
Tumblr media
But get disheartened pretty quick realizing how much work it will be
Tumblr media
Ok this is so cute some small details to note, the valentine incorporates each of their colors, while Iruma is all in white Azz and Clara are both accented by blues, also Clara's candy is pink like Azz and Azz is using a heart arrow to stir her drink. I just look at this and tell me its not their shared Valentines day date.
Tumblr media
I just adore when Azz and Clara have to work together cause this does show they are on the same page more often than not.
Tumblr media
Azz and Clara front and center in Iruma's view as their plans are starting to fall apart
Tumblr media
Again the whole club is here but the focus is the main three
Tumblr media
So Silvia finishes her recreation and we get the trio prepped and ready to go together
Tumblr media
And get absolutely terrified, again their rings are clearly shown
Tumblr media
I love that Clara is clinging to Iruma
Tumblr media
Still clinging only thing that would make it better is if Azz was clinging
Tumblr media
I love the little he "praised me" and Clara adding to it. so cute (not beating those praise kink allegations)
Tumblr media
Again they are all together as they overlook the invitation and get excited
Tumblr media
Look at our evil trio ready to scare the shit out of their classmates

Kalego looks tired from the state of his bedroom, he was able to confirm that Atori was indeed an infiltrator, but what must have bothered him more was the fact that Iruma was a human. Maybe that's what caused the mess in his room too. Because at first, he refused to believe it until he finally accepted it. Especially since he's going to act as if he'd heard nothing, given Balam's lack of response. This is a huge thing for Kalego, who is considered a stern and terrifying teacher by his pupils. Showing no mercy towards the school's enemies! Kalego sees Iruma as one of his students and will protect him as such, whether he's human or not. But the fact that he doesn't shows just how much this relationship with Iruma has changed him, and that he cares for him in his own way.
Besides, I notice that even though some demons notice that Iruma isn't a demon but a human. It's not the kind of big revelation you might see in other mangas. But more than acceptance, there's Balam who panicked because Iruma shouldn't have said it, since they hardly knew each other. But the only ones who give importance to this revelation are Baal and Kirio, never Iruma's allies. So yeah, I think when Iruma tells Azz and Clara he's human, they'll accept it.

Welcome To Demon School, Iruma-Kun! Volume 2: Into The Fire
Tumblr media
I can't give Kodansha enough praise for (specifically) how they're handling Iruma-kun. I was worried when they announced it as single volumes, but the breakneck release schedule of every 2 months is great. There's a massive backlog of volumes, which means English readers get Iruma at an incredibly fast pace! Either way, it means the second volume's released and there's plenty to talk about with it!
Right away, NIshi's malleable style pulls me right back into Iruma-Kun. I love how fluid and expressive these designs are, how different a character can look from one page to the next. It feels so right with how all over the place Iruma-Kun is.
Tumblr media
Similarly, the approach to "action", if you can really call it action, appears early on and works great with the overall style of the manga. Typically speaking, I'm more a fan of storyboarded action (where you see its progression and movement through paneling), but there's a good few exceptions like Iruma-kun, where I do enjoy the more pose based appeal. For it to work though, you need to be really good at expressing entire scenes with a single panel, and I'd say Nishi pulls it off quite well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, you'd think when you're reading content you've already watched (at least once), and from almost 4 years ago now, that some of the comedy might wear thin. Nope. In fact, it's almost the opposite, as plenty of these moments end up feeling nostalgic, like Iruma's appearance by carriage (graciously announced by Opera). It's a bit challenging to explain, but with the unique life only found in the manga, and the differences due to restrictions and approach, the humor doesn't feel worn or thin in any spots.
Tumblr media
Of course, it's not all comedy, this is still an impactful shounen for younger audiences, so they throw in pieces like this here and there. I really enjoy how wildly characters are able to swing between their more demonic side, and the more human one. Also, I'm a sucker for negative space with emotional realizations like this. Iruma's worried about being outed as a human, but his friends are worried about why he's feeling down. It's really endearing, and I like that they're able to so easily alleviate Iruma's worries. Anyways, the purpose of the negative space here is to show what Iruma's focused/centered on in this moment, that being Azz-Kun and Clara. But yeah, Iruma-Kun vol. 2 is still, unsurprisingly, checking every possible box it can.
Tumblr media
I know I already said that the humor was well received in this volume, but it just works so well with Nishi's approach to movement. The posing and character design and the perceived delay between the two actions is just perfect. It's such great humor.
Tumblr media
It takes quite a while, but there's also things in the manga that are inferior to the anime. Truthfully though, what can you do? The manga does nothing wrong with it's wonderful art, but the absence of color really hinders it in comparison. And that's mostly where the anime succeeds. Where there's set limitations, such as not having access to color or movement and the like, the anime picks up on what the manga wants, and brings out the best in it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, it's in this volume that we get our first look at Ameri! I'm a massive fan of her character in the anime, so I was super excited to get a glance at her in the manga, and I wasn't disappointed. Her character design in the manga is super interesting, and actually leaves me somewhat disappointed with the anime's interpretation. Here, Ameri's design has something more.... well almost sultry to it, and it all comes from the eyes. I was super surprised to see how different it makes Ameri feel, but I'm completely for it.
Tumblr media
Of course, our cute and Shoujo-obsessed Ameri still exists and is absolutely adorable, but first, this page. Nishi's posing and sense of movement through single panels is just something else, and I love how creative they get with perspective and field of view to really bring out the most in these panels.
Tumblr media
Anyways, cute Ameri! I can never get enough of her like this.
Tumblr media
I just love how responsive Nishi's character designs and art style are, I can't get enough. How the shading and line art change based on mood or appeal for example with this panel of Ameri. Her hair is usually shaded much darker, and her eyes much sharper, but here they're both the inverse of that to draw the cuteness out of her design. I just love it, I love how fluid Iruma-Kun is as a manga so, so much. (regular shaded Ameri below to show the difference as well)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And just to end it off, Azz-Kun and Clara sneaking around following Iruma.
Tumblr media
I'm not exactly the target demographic for a shounen manga that focuses on friendship, doing well in school, respecting adults, and so on and so forth, but I hold it very dear nonetheless. Maybe because it's something that makes me feel younger than I am while reading it, maybe because it's just simply well done on all fronts, maybe something else entirely. But whatever it is, I'm so incredibly happy to be able to have and own each and every volume of this story now that it's been licensed.

Where are your wings Iruma-Kun
Chapter 2: Why aren't they eating me?
“T-they…now know I’m human.” Iruma mentally screams to himself. Iruma waited but nothing happen. “They might still be in shock for seeing such a rare delicacy, it’s a matter of time before they eat me.” Iruma thinks to himself, trying to find reasons why his teachers weren’t attacking him. Iruma was so lost in his thoughts, that he didn’t even notice when another demon enter the room.
“Balam! Why are 2 of my students whining to me that you abducted,-” A familiar grumpy voice cut himself off when he saw the scene. Robin had Iruma’s shirt pulled up which reveal the awful condition of the boy’s back. Scars litter the boy’s body, old and new ones alike. Some were bite marks, some were craw marks, and some were varied in size and color. But the scar that haunted and angered the teachers the most was the longest jaggy-looking line that was located right in the middle of Iruma’s small back. Where his wings or at least wing roots were supposed to be, there was a large dark pink scar edge to his body that looked to be years old.
Being the torture art teacher in Babyls, Marbas can identify and have a better idea of what Iruma's upbringing was like. The methods of torture that were performed on the boy are awful even by Marbas’s standards, someone who performs torture as a full-time career. Marbas’s torture methods are for education purposes only, but it’s obvious that Iruma had experienced the most painful and illegal form of torture known to demon kind. Someone had Grounded him, meaning that a demon’s wings will never grow back. This is too much, how could anyone do this to a child, not just any child but the most considerate, innocent, sweetest, and selfless child that they had the pleasure of teaching. Children are considered treasures in the Netherworld, to think someone harming one to this extent is completely unforgivable.
All of the teachers who were currently present only had one thought race through their minds. “What kind of evil monster could have done this? Who had Grounded this child!” All of the teachers mentally scream in their heads. Iruma manage to calm down his breathing, realizing that his teachers weren’t going to eat him, for now. “I could of kill him, I almost murdered one of my own students ” Kalego mumbled to himself, remembering what he did to Iruma during the Flying exam. How could he, a teacher of Babyls, could be so wreckless?
Iruma finally escape Balam’s grip before putting on his uniform jacket that Robin subconsciously dropped onto the floor. Iruma then walked by his homeroom teacher. “Hi Kalego-sensei, nice seeing you here.” Iruma greeted the purple-haired demon nervously. Which got all of the teachers snapped out of their stung daze. Iruma then looked at his empty wrist in an exaggerated motion.
“Look at the time, I’m going to be late for Alice, Clara, and my study session,” Iruma said with his head lowered down as he try to make his way to the exit. Kalego and the other teachers couldn’t let the boy leave their custody until he at least had answered all of their questions. “Iruma, come here,” Kalego commanded softly in order not to frighten the boy.
But for the first time that all of his teachers had ever witnessed, Iruma didn’t obey, he only fasten his pace slightly. Kalego quickly walked and reach his hand out for Iruma’s shoulder in order to stop the small boy from taking another step. Unfortunately, that was the worst way to stop the boy because when Iruma’s father grabbed his son by the shoulder, that meant Iruma is going to get his usual beating. “I’m sorry, don’t hurt me, I’ll be good, I’ll be good, I’ll be good. Just don't hurt me, Dad.” Suppress memories of his father’s beating started to flood back to Iruma, forgetting that all of his teachers were there to witness his breakdown.
“Kalego let go of him, he’s having a PTSD episode,” Buer stated as he and the other teacher surrounded him, thinking that their presence could calm the boy by letting him know that he wasn’t alone. If only they knew the real reason that Iruma was in such a distressed state. They were surrounding him as a pack of wolfs. Since Iruma had spent most of his young life in the woods, he knows what it’s like to be surrounded like prey. “Oh my god, they really are going to eat me.” Those were the only thoughts that were running through Iruma’s head as his breaths become harder and faster. Iruma then clenches his chest in pain as he falls onto the floor. “Calm down Iruma,” Kalego said before kneeling down to his student’s eye level. “He’s hyperventilating. Balam, please take Iruma to the nurse's office quickly,” Buer ordered before Balam gently picked up the hyperventilating boy. “Should I contact the chair demon?” Robin asked, already preparing his phone to make the call. “Grandpa,” those were Iruma’s last words he could mumble before going unconscious.
“No, we don’t know who cause all of Iruma’s pain, for all we know it can be that crazy old coop or his insane cat servant. Until we know Iruma's so-called guardians are safe, no one is telling them what just transpired.” Kalego declare as he and the other teachers made their way to the nurse’s office.

For the Sake of a Smile (V.2) Chapter Seven
Title: For the Sake of a Smile (Revised)
Overall Rating: Mature (18+)
Chapter Rating: T for teen. Some violence, and some innuendo
Trigger warnings: Nothing beyond the child abuse hinted in the series, though we do explore the consequences a bit more.
Main Pairing: Balam Shichiro/Reader
Summary: Hell on earth was your motto for your job. Granted, you were pretty sure earth really was hell, considering the shit you had seen in your life. And the fact your coworker was a child.
A child named Suzuki Iruma, in fact. A kid who’s life was decidedly worse than yours, but yet he smiled despite everything. It wasn’t long after meeting him that you decided you’d do a lot for his smile. Including summoning a literal demon and signing your soul away.
But as it turns out, hell (The Netherworld, actually) was a lot better than living on earth. Demons were more humane than a lot of humans you knew.
And Iruma’s smile wasn’t the only one that would change your life.

The mansion was oddly quiet, reminding you of the days shortly after you arrived in the Netherworld, when everyone else was at Babyls and you were left to your own devices.
Granted, a few days ago you had awoken to chaos as reporters descended upon your new home, eager to get an interview with Walter Park's hero. To garner some peace, you had agreed when Iruma and Clara asked (begged) to let him spend some time at the Valc's home, which was apparently deep within a forest only their family could navigate.
As much as you hated the idea of allowing Iruma out of your sight after the events of Walter park, you hoped time with his closest friends would be good for the boy. And as chaotic as Clara was, the way she talked about her own mom gave you the feeling she'd keep an eye on the trio.
But you also made Iruma swear he'd keep his phone charged and on him at all times. You also may have texted him frequently to assure he was keeping that promise.
But that was keeping Sullivan from calling him just as frequently.
To keep yourself distracted, you had poured yourself into the study of Runes. You hadn't seen any books about them in the school's library, which alone had piqued your interest. A whole division of magic not in the library of a school created to teach magic?
Why?
//Demons don't have much use for Runes when other magic is just as powerful and far easier to use// Balam had explained when you had asked him via text.
With the semester over, you hadn't seen him since Walter Park.
And, well…
-+-
For the first time in a long time, you didn't wake tangled in covers and thick feathery pillows. Instead, strong arms were wrapped around you, your pillow a chest that was somehow firm yet soft.
And large, forest-green wings shielded both you and Balam from the outside world.
He couldn't have been very comfortable, sitting cross-legged on the bed, shoulders hunched forward as he cradled you, his head hung low and unsupported as he slept. Yet at the same time, he looked peaceful, his breathing slow and rhythmic.
It gave you a real chance to study his face without the mask. There was no missing the fact half of his lips had been torn away, leaving behind exposed fangs and a large, discolored scar. Logically, you knew he likely hid it behind a mask because it likely bothered others, maybe even frightened them.
Yet… you were neither bothered nor scared. You… still found him handsome. What that said about you, you weren't exactly sure, but in the odd mindspace of waking up in someone's arms you were able to admit it to yourself without much hesitancy.
You found Balam Shichiro attractive. His face, the physique of his body, his temperament. His eager thirst for knowledge combined with his desire to share what he knew.
Without thinking, you reached up to cup his face, still awed by how much larger he was than you. His breath was hot and moist against your skin, his non-ruined lip soft and supple before transitioning into twisted scar tissue.
His dark eyelashes shifted against his pale cheeks as he woke. For a moment, he sleepily looked at you, a soft smile forming beneath your fingers.
Then he truly woke up. And panicked.
-+-
Needless to say, things were still a little awkward.
So maybe it was because of that, or because they were such a mystery, but you threw yourself into finding out more about runes.
You could at least acknowledge a part of it was because of what Sullivan had said: "Runes are one the few types of magic that humans can use. After all, it’s how you first summoned me."
Magic. It was your chance at magic. A way to defend yourself, to defend others in this realm fraught with danger.
You had done it before, so you could do it again.
Yet, again, there was the hurdle of the fact demons acknowledged Runes existing, but didn't seem to have any interest in exploring them. Every other branch of magic had enough books and essays on them that it could fill a library itself.
You had found less than a dozen that merely referenced Runes, talked of them as if whomever was reading was already familiar. One lone tome that had complicated patterns like the summoning seal that spoke of using smaller, simpler Runes to create larger spells.
It was like trying to learn to read a language when you were unfamiliar with the alphabet.
"Why do you look so dour, my sugardrop princess?" Sullivan asked one evening. Iruma was absent once again, though this time at a 'Sabbath', or what you knew as a mixer back home. An outing of him and some of his male classmates to meet some ladies of other classes.
"Difficulty with research," You admitted as you sipped at the soup, the name of which escaped you but tasted delicious nonetheless. "I found some books regarding putting Runes in different arrangements, but none explaining the Runes themselves."
Oddly, Sullivan's eyes brightened. "Is that why you've been tearing the Library up once again? Why didn't you say so earlier!"
You flushed slightly. The idea had crossed your mind. However, you weren't exactly the best at asking for help when you felt you should be able to do something yourself. "I… didn't want to impose."
In true Sullivan fashion, he all but launched himself across the table to embrace you in a strong hug. "You'd never be a bother, my sweet little princess! Please, let me teach you! Please!"
--+--
Sullivan was - surprisingly - a decent teacher. He was calm, patient, and able to explain things in a way you could understand when you asked questions.
"Algiz is a simple protection rune," He said as he drew the rune on the blackboard, which looked rather like a 'Y'. "If you don't have time for a more elaborate sigil, it will suffice as a basic shield. But usually it will not withstand more than one attack at a time."
He then drew a rough-looking 'n'. "Uruz will boost your endurance and strength for a short time, depending on how much mana you put into it."
"I don't have any," You reminded him with a frown, pausing in your notes. Since there were apparently no entry-level texts, you were determined to make your own. "That's why we're doing this."
There was a gleam in his eye as he leaned forward. "That's not quite true. Humans do have mana, but it's different from our own. While Demons can direct and shape our mana with a simple thought, humans mana simply is. It cannot be easily molded or transformed like ours."
You waved your arms, more than a little frustrated. If you had mana, but it simply existed, unusable, then why even mention it? "Then how am I supposed to use it?!"
"That, you will need to learn that yourself," Sullivan replied with a smile. "Now! The next rune you should know is Kaunan in case you need to attack!"
--+--
There were books stacked on the large wooden desk in your room, along with an assortment of paper and pens. You carefully traced the simple glyphs and sigils while focusing on the meaning behind them.
Magic was mostly about intent and imagination. And like Sullivan said, he could only teach you the symbols, but was unable to really explain how to use them.
When he had branded you back at Walter Park, it had been his magic that had created the Runes. Though he had also managed to anchor them to your own Mana to keep them working as you had parted ways. Proving you had a fairly decent reservoir of Mana yourself.
So you drew the Runes, over and over while focusing your mind on what you wanted. While there were literal hundreds of different Runes, Sullivan had encouraged you to focus on the three he had shown you. Algriz. Uruz. Kaunan.
You weren't sure how long you had been tracing Algriz over and over. Long enough your mind had begun to wander, recalling the feeling of the Carmine Dragon's giant claws pressing down on you. It had been so heavy, yet at the same time it felt like you were wrapped in something that reinforced every bit of you so it couldn't push you into the dirt.
But despite that strength, you hadn't really felt protected. Protection was…
Was being wrapped in Balam's arms as the dragon unleashed its fiery breath. One arm clutching at your waist, the other cupping the back of your head and pressing you against him. The odd feeling of his magic wrapping around you just as securely.
Or when you had woken the following morning, nestled in his arms.
It was like something snagged beneath your breastbone, a hook catching something within. You were ripped from your thoughts as the Algriz Rune flared, emitting a golden light that wrapped around you. That feeling of being safe and protected somehow radiated with the glow.
With shaky hands, you grabbed the pen and tried to press it against the skin of your other arm. But couldn't even cause a dent to form no matter how hard you pressed.
"I did it… I did it!" You jumped up, excitement rushing through you.
Magic! You had done magic!
Your phone dinged with a message from Balam: //How's studying going?//
So elated from your accomplishment, you didn't even pause before calling him. He sounded rather surprised when he answered, greeting you by name. "Is everything okay?"
"I did magic!" You exclaimed giddily. "I really did it!"
"What? Really?! That's amazing!" He sounded as excited as you felt, making you even more happy. "I'm so glad to hear that!"
"I was practicing the Algriz rune, the one for protection, thinking about how it felt to be protected and poof!" You explained, able to reign in your tongue enough to avoid admitting the entire truth.
"I'm proud! And a bit relieved, to be honest. Especially with the next semester approaching."
His words confused you, "What do you mean?"
"Well, I'm sure you'll hear more from Lord Sullivan, or at least Iruma after the start. But after a long discussion, Kalego and Lord Sullivan came to an agreement to give the Misfit class some… extra training."
"Oh?" You settled into the chair you enjoyed reading in, a faint frown on your face.
"They're very talented. We had an inkling after Royal one, but that became even more apparent after Walter Park. It would be a disservice to them not to challenge them more to see how skilled they are, and what they're true potential is."
This… was true. For the stories you heard of Walter Park, what you saw yourself, you knew it to be true. Yet Balam's tone left you feeling like there was something else. "You sure Kalego's not just a bit bitter over Royal One still?"
Balam chuckled, though it wasn't as full-bodied as usual. "Maybe a little, but he's also very proud of their accomplishments, even if he won't admit it outloud."
There was a pause of silence. Heavy and almost awkward. "What are you not saying, Balam?" You finally asked.
"I'll be training Sabnock and Asmodeus," He admitted with a sigh. "And, well, what I have in mind will be intense, so I won't have the freetime I did before."
"O-oh." Your good mood completely deflated. Despite the awkwardness that had lingered after Walter Park, you were looking forward to seeing him again on a regular basis.
Even if you hadn't been able to completely squish the ember of a crush that was still smoldering in your heart.
"I still want to see you!" He interjected quickly, "I meant I might not have time for my side projects! And I was also worried about everyone being busy leaving you unprotected! But now you can protect yourself, should something happen, which is such a relief, and I…"
You couldn't help the giggles that bubbled upwards from your chest, along with a warm, fuzzy feeling. "You're such a worry wart."
"You're unbelievably precious to me," He answered, causing your heart to squeeze painfully and your cheeks to flush. "You and Iruma both, but he could at least protect himself, or summon Kalego. I couldn't bear to lose either of you."
You covered your face, even though there was no way for him to see you. No one was there to witness how flushed you were from his words alone.
Surely… surely he didn't mean it in a romantic sense. That was just the silly little crush whispering in your ear. It was just because you and Iruma were human, and he was semon with a thirst for knowledge about your world. Yes, you were friends too, but he had admitted demons didn't exactly have friends like humans.
Thank Devi he couldn't see you right now.
But what could you say to that without being weird? Thank you? You're precious to us too?
Which he was. You knew Iruma was fond of Balam, especially after his tutoring that helped him pass. And you were certainly fond of him, much more than you probably should be.
"Um, anyways," He continued, making you realize how long the silence had lingered. "I'm proud that you're getting the hang of them so quickly. It's not an easy branch of magic, after all. And humans aren't used to using magic. I do wonder what amount of mana you possess. I mean, I was under the assumption humans have none, so this is really fascinating!"
Your anxiety eased as he continued to talk about the arguments he had read for and against humans having magical abilities in any shape or form. You didn't even need to participate as he talked, other than the occasional noise confirming you were still listening, or reassuring that you were.
This crush was going to make things difficult; yet at the same time, you couldn't help but bask in the warm happiness it caused.
--+--
The new semester started and things were extremely slow with the misfits in their assigned extra teaching. The Library was restored to its new glory, easy enough to navigate that many students didn't need much help after the first few weeks. You couldn't practice Runes during work hours, worried others would question why you were practicing magic like a student.
You were bored. You missed seeing Iruma and his class throughout the day. Last semester, the Misfit Class had seemed to live in the library near the end of the semester; which had kept it lively to say the least. You missed making plans for the Library and working with the faculty staff to make your plans a reality too.
You missed seeing Balam at lunch times as well as any free time he had. True to his word, he didn't have as much freedom between his usual classes and his special tutoring. It was only after school when you slipped to the underground classroom he had claimed for his training that you could spend any real time with him, though your conversations were restricted topic-wise.
After all, the last thing you needed was Az and Sabnock to realize your secret too.
“Is this really a normal demon thing?” You whispered as you watched the two teens spare against each other, looking both half dead, and exceedingly stubborn. “Have they really not gone home since you started training?”
“I admit, it’s not quite typical,” Balam answered, his voice rumbling from his chest to your back as you sat between his crossed legs. You were secretly grateful that the Walter Park incident hadn't caused him to change his skinship ways, even if being nestled in his lap made your heart beat quicker. “But, from what I’ve heard from the other tutors, nothing is typical with the Misfits Class anyways. Like iron, they need to be strengthened and refined by intense fire.”
You glanced up at him briefly. “... you know, you’re one of my closest friends, but I have to admit, I’m glad my dad doesn’t share the same teaching methods as you.”
Balam chuckled as his hand rubbed your shoulders, right where the ache was located from constantly hunching over books. You fought back a hiss of pleasure as his thumb carefully dug into a knot. How did he always know where you needed to be massaged?
“Runes and fighting are two very different subjects. You’re essentially learning a new language as well as how to harness your mana. Whereas with these two, I’m trying to refine their inherent skills." He paused, tilting his head slightly. "Speaking of which, how is Iruma doing?”
Everytime Balam had asked the question previously, Asmodus faltered in his sparring against Sabnock. The pink-haired demon's attention instantly would snap to the small table where you and Balam sat, and allow Sabnock an unfair advantage.
You were pretty sure Balam made sure to mention Iruma at least once a day just to see if he could break him of the habit. Though, Balam did genuinely care about Iruma's progress as well, so perhaps you were being unfair.
Today, however, Az didn’t even seem to hear the mention of Iruma, which you mentally praised the young demon for. Even Balam glanced at Asmodus, and beamed when he realized the demon hadn't been distracted.
“Well, he said the other day he needs to figure out what kind of bow he wanted,” You answered. “Not a strong one, or one to protect, but a unique one to fulfill his goal -- whatever that means.”
“Well, the Barbatos family is known for their unique sharp-shooting abilities," Balam hummed, making a shiver down your spine, warmth pooling in your face as well as somewhere else that you tried to ignore. "Not many demons have the patience to become archers - but I’m sure Iruma is well suited to the task.”
“Patient, determined, persevering no matter what’s thrown at him? That sounds like my boy." You smiled fondly, recalling all the times you were near your wits end back on Earth, and he would determinedly help you out. "I never thought I’d see the day when he’d become ambitious as well, but here we are.”
“I am eager to see how the class as a whole does with the upcoming Harvest Festival.”
You smiled fondly, leaning into him a little more. “Me too, I overheard some students talking about it. It'll be fun to actually be a part of something for once.”
Balam froze, internally panicking at your words. So caught up in everything, he hadn’t even thought about the fact were part of Babyls staff and therefore expected to help out during the festival. After all; between managing the collection stations, rescuing students, and dealing with the consequences of the students getting in over their head, they often needed every bit of help they could find.
But you? In the forest? Magicless, powerless, in a forest filled with things that could easily kill a demon - let alone a human?
While Iruma had proven himself that he was anything but weak and powerless, Balam wasn’t confident about your own ability. If anything, he was convinced of the opposite after seeing you so tired after conjuring just a few Runes in a row.
He leaned in close to your ear so the students wouldn't overhear as he quietly asked: “Are you sure that’s a wise idea?”
"I've been assigned to help tally points between the different teams," You replied back just as quietly. "I'll be stuck at the main tent and likely never stepping out." You tilted your head back and reached up to pat his mask reassuringly, though your positions made it slightly awkward. "I'll be safe, I promise."
Balam slumped with a sigh, wrapping his arms around your shoulders, pulling you close so he could rest his head on yours. "I don't mean to come off as overprotective. I just…"
"You know how… different I am," You finished for him, at ease in his embrace. "And you worry, like a good friend does."
Well, that was sort of true. But he mused if now was a good time to explain that demons didn't quite have 'friends' to worry over, and decided it probably wasn't. After all, he wasn't even certain how to label his feelings, so how could he explain that in concepts you would understand?
--+--
A few weeks later, and the harvest festival was a chaotic mess; one you were happy to stay out of… mostly.
The forest itself was overgrown, with the crowns of the trees so tightly knit together barely any light filtered through, giving it a gloomy foreboding aura. Despite the lack of light, the place was filled with various flora and fauna you had no names for - but knew they would love to kill you given the chance.
Needless to say you were happy to stay in the main tent, working on cataloging everyone's points. It was mundane work, taking the tally sheets that the different stations turned in and updating the student’s records. But it was also vital, making you feel rather included for once.
It was also nice to be around the other staff more, many whom you had only seen in the halls very rarely. Where your desk was situated you were easily able to listen to Suzy and Dali’s commentary, and keep an ear out for updates regarding the Misfit class.
Their remarks on Iruma and Lied familiarizing themselves with the forest didn't surprise you too much. Iruma was rather skilled at surviving in the wild; there had been times he had left the factory for a week or two because his parents had decided gathering wild herbs and mushrooms were more ‘profitable’ than the fishery. So, oddly, you were less anxious about him camping in the foreboding forest than you were about him going to an amusement park for the day.
However, your worries settled on the fact that he and Lied were treating it like a relaxing camping trip, and had ended the first day with absolutely zero points.
You were near-fuming as you looked at the monitor set up near the buffet table, taking a break from the bookwork. You had kept an eye out for his name, and had started to wonder if maybe someone else was keeping his score in fear you would tamper with it, but the monitor confirmed your fears. Day two and they were still at zero points. “I know patience and endurance is a major component,” You growled to yourself more than anything. “But for hell’s sake, Iruma! You can do better than this!”
“He may still catch up,” Balam offered as he appeared beside you, startling you. How could he be so large and move so silently? “There are still a few days left.”
You huffed and crossed your arms. “I know, but still…. Zero? Literally everyone else has at least a few hundred, if not a thousand!”
“True, but only a few have adapted like him and Lied," He pointed out as he picked at the table, looking for things he would be able to eat quickly and discreetly.  "Already a fifth of students have withdrawn, and that number will only rise through the night. I think that we could probably see nearly a quarter withdrawing by morning.”
You hadn’t realized it was that many, though you had known the majority of the teachers were out saving students who hadn't been prepared before nightfall made the forest even more deadly. At least most of the Misfits had found a place to camp for the night, safe and secured with each team holding a couple thousand points each.
Well, nearly everyone was settled for the night - except two certain students.
“Az and Sabnock are still going pretty strong, and they already have over fifteen thousand points," You looked up at him and gave him a little conspiratorial smile as you nudged him lightly. "I bet you’re pretty proud.”
The change of topic made Balam smile rather bashfully under his mask, which you could tell just by the expression in his eyes as he looked away, scratching his neck as it turned pink. “A little,” He admitted before his expression changed. “Though, I’m disappointed Asmodeus reverted to using his evil cycle so early. But Sabnock pulled him out just as I instructed. Even if they don’t win, this event will strengthen their skills significantly. Honestly, this is an excellent opportunity to test their skills on the battlefield while still providing a controlled environment.”
He was very proud of his students, and it made you smile as he continued to discuss the pros and cons of the events and his thoughts on his proteges’ progress. And honestly, you could've easily stayed there just sipping at tea while listening to him talk, except you noticed the pile on your make-shift desk was quickly continuing to grow while people came and went.
After a moment, Balam noticed your expression wilting as you stared past him, and looked to see the towering stack. His hand found yours, squeezing lightly to catch your attention. “I’ve kept you long enough, do you need help?”
Your smile returned, though looking more tired than anything. “Nah, it’s the only way I can contribute. Besides, I’m sure they could use your help out there with the students.”
He looked towards the chaos and sighed himself. “You’re right," He paused for a moment before almost shyly offering: "Perhaps we could enjoy some tea together afterwards? Once you're caught up and the chaos has settled?”
You felt your face warm as you nodded, “I’d love that. Maybe somewhere private enough you can eat properly too, okay?”
His smile returned, along with a deep blush. His free hand reached up and cupped your cheek, thumb brushing your skin softly. "That would be wonderful."
--+--
When someone dropped papers on your desk, you didn’t look up anymore. There was no time as you crunched away at the numbers, desperate to get a handle on the pile before morning broke and the students started their hunts once more.
Two more days. Just two more days of this.
However, when the demon delivering the latest batch didn’t move but cleared their throat, you finally looked up. Momonoki smiled, though there seemed something rather… mischievous about it. “How are you doing?”
“Uh, good?" Honestly, you were exhausted - and knew if you were extremely lucky, you might get a few hours of sleep before the morning came. But, you were more curious about why Momonoki was making conversation when you barely had said more than a word to the other teacher since you started. “Uh, how about yourself?”
“Oh, you know, same old, same old,” She waved before leaning closer, her smile growing even larger. “So, I heard a rumor from Raim that Lord Sullivan confirmed you and Balam are courting.”
Courting? Your mind blanked for a moment before frantically making the realization of what she was implying. Courting. Dating.
You and Balam. Dating.
"W-what?" You spluttered, your face becoming red-hot. "C-courting?"
"It's so cute!" She squeed, pressing her hands to her heart before her smile fell slightly. "Granted, Balam is quite… odd. Okay, he's very odd, but still! A forbidden romance in the halls of Babyls!" She sighed almost dreamily, lost in her own inner world and oblivious to your growing plight. "The mysterious unranked daughter of the Great Lord Sullivan, returning with an unclaimed child to her father's home! And then the fearsome White Gargoyle of Babyls, who finally found someone to look past his flaws for the demon beneath. And then trying to keep their love hidden from society because they know how much everyone would disapprove of such a match! It's a love story fit for a novel!"
You couldn't even think of a response, just stare blankly as her words sunk in, your mind trying to reconcile her words with reality.
A forbidden romance. Unclaimed child. Disapproving society. Secret love.
You.
Balam.
Momonoki took your stunned silence for something radically different as she winked, a finger pressed to her lips. "Don't worry, your secret is safe with me! As long as you share the juicy details later, you lucky devil!"
You gaped as she left, still giggling to herself as she returned to the forest.
Courting. Balam.
Yes, you could admit you had a crush on him. And that he was very attractive (and you were kinda miffed Momonoki implied otherwise).
But you had tempered the emotion - suppressing it. You were intent to be happy as just friends. After all, there was no way he would be romantically interested in you! Not when he sometimes acted like you were some rare exotic creature he was studying.
And now there are rumors going around? Perpetuated by your own adopted family?!
You just wanted to find a hole and hide. The rumors were going to go around the school like wildfire; and how were you going to face him - or anyone - after that?
You grabbed your phone, work be damned as you started typing angrily.
--+--
//Why do people think I'M COURTING BALAM?! What does that even mean?!//
Lord Sullivan chuckled to himself. He had been wondering how long it would take the rumor to reach you. It probably wasn't right for him to spread the gossip he had heard amongst the students. But when he had met with the tutors of the Misfits --barring Balam who had his own duties-- well, he couldn't resist when they posed questions about his 'unknown' daughter.
They all had wanted to know what kind of demon could raise a child like Iruma. And well, he had to cover both of your identities without raising too much suspicion. And what was a better way then to distract them with a little juicy gossip?
//To be fair, my dear, the rumor has been circulating since the beginning of the semester// He started, remembering hearing the details from Ronovoe Rosevelt himself. While he could hardly see any of it being true, it had given him a similar idea to the revised version that spread through the school.
You and Balam would make a very cute couple. And Balam could certainly keep you safe. //But I might have accidentally talked about how happy I would be if you and Balam were courting. You two are just so adorable together. Opera and Raim even agreed with me!//
That was a brief summary. He didn't need to include the pictures he had taken of when you were engrossed in a conversation, or when he sighted you and Balam together. How Raim excitedly started jumping to conclusions that he didn't bother correcting.
//what? WHAT?? THAT ANSWERS NOTHING! Dad!//
//oh ho ho, my beautiful princess! Don't worry so much!//
Soon, Opera's phone chimed, making both demons pause in their stroll back to the school. Sullivan easily peered over the security demon's shoulder, confirming his suspicions.
//OPERA! How serious is courting?//
Opera barely paused before quickly typing back: //I have an important matter to attend. If you have questions about courting, I suggest you ask Balam >;3//
Lord Sullivan chuckled as Opera sent the message with a straight face before pocketing the phone. "It seems Raim' and Momonoki's love for gossip is stronger than we realized."
"How do you think he'll react once he hears?" Sullivan asked, and Opera tilted their head as they thought.
"Hmmm, it depends on whether he's realized things yet, or if he’s been as oblivious as she has. Either way, it'll be quite amusing."
--+--
Just outside the main tent, you held back a scream as you read Opera's response.
Those two were in on this. They really did start the rumors!
--+-- Su-Ki-Ma --+--
"These two had better be lying about Professor Balam," Asmodeus growled to Sabnock, his eyes narrowed at the Doro-Doro Brothers ahead of them.
"Oh?" Sabnock wasn't paying complete attention to his partner, and instead keeping a keen eye out for more high-ranking ingredients. He was still determined not only to show-up the two demons ahead of them, but when the festival itself.
"If he really is a womanizer and breaks Iru-mama -- I mean Ms Suzuki's-- heart, I will find a way to break him." Even if it meant enlisting the help of his own mother - Az swore he would do it. Not only were you Iruma's mother, but you were a respectable demon in your own right, showing the same traits he adored in your son.
To think that their instructor that he had respected had such a side hidden from them. Yes, demons had many sides to them, but this was nearly unbelievable.
Sabnock paused once he finally processed Az's words. "Wait, do you think those two are actually together?"
Az scoffed, "Have you not been paying attention when she visits?" He certainly had, and to him it was impossible to miss how their teacher's attention shifted from being focused on working them to the bone to being completely enraptured  by you as soon as you entered the room.
Or how you brightened as soon as you saw the giant demon. Yes, you waved to him and Sabnock in their training, showing that compassion so rare in a demon, but a blind person could see who had your true attention.
"They're both odd," Sabnock excused with a shrug, apparently not as convinced. "Between the professor's skinship and Ms. Suzuki's 'mother hen' nature or whatever - plus they're both nerds about imaginary creatures. Who can really tell with those two?"
There was no denying both adults had their oddities that set them apart from the rest of Babyls' faculty. But… "I am unfortunately very familiar with the signs of infatuation." And you both had them in droves.
"So you believe the rumors from Walter Park?"
It was Az's turn to be confused. "Rumors?"
Sabnock grinned as he imparted his knowledge to the other student, if only to see Az pale before turning a deeper pink than his hair. Though from anger or embarrassment, Sabnock wasn't sure.
Either way, their teacher was likely going to have an awkward conversation after the festival. Especially when the rest of the Misfits discovered the rumor.

Self intro -to the mairuma fandom.
First I thought I'd make a comprehensive one but it's the fandom I'm highly active in that needs to know me well. - greetings, mairuma. Hello members old and new.
I'm Miano/Mia. My favourite colour is rainbow 🌈 (I was 17 when I made this post.)
It's nothing else, wanted to clarify what my intentions are, why I'm here and what my purpose is. I make long posts on headcanons or write my mairuma reviews. my subject of utmost admiration in the manga is as you probably know - Gaap/Garp Goemon.
Tumblr media
I watched the first season before going into the manga. It was this particular scene that stole my heart. As Jazz puts it, his "pure eyes". From there on I started to hyper-fixate on him.
What I post about him
This is very important. Please read this before following me.
-I post my headcanons about him. I already did a lot and all of them were right. I update everything about him, Starting from the etymology of his name to each and every aspect related to him.
- I love his closest companion Agares Picero too. I post about their bond, how I love it more than any other bond I see in mairuma and so on.
- Fanart about Goemon, Picero
🌟See some of them here in the previous pinned post. Check out my handmade mairuma toys here.
- craft - includes dolls big and small, of Goemon and Picero (in general other characters too) . My main one is as everyone probably knows, this "big giant toy"
Why this big life sized toy?
Tumblr media
ID- Gaap Goemon in his first year uniform
The reason why I made him is simple. It Is the greatest tribute that I can give to my favourite character with the type of skills I have-crafting. I love him so much, just as how Opera San is loved, Azz kun is loved etc. When I love something fictional, I re-create - with the set of skills I have.
I'm very attached to my toys (plush toys ) and this one is the most important to me and I didn't even buy much items for making him other than the fur cloth. All other items were recycled materials from my home itself.
So when I post how much I love Goemon, that's mostly about the Goemon in the manga. But I also feel extremely comforted by the Goemon beside me. I post about that too.
I post stylish photos of him in various outfits. I loved dress up games and now I just do it outside the screen on my selected dolls, I'm into fashion designing and I have made plenty of outfits for my Barbie collection.
I also made the doll because I can't draw always so it's a matter of time management as well. I could dress him up in his canon outfits, he has his sword too. I then take different photos.
I post a lot in Goemon tags, so if that's annoying to anyone, you can block me forever because as long as I'm here it's one of the main things I do. M!ik is the main fandom I'm in and Goemon is my favourite character so naturally I'll do whatever I can to express it.
So this is about me and what I post about Goemon. If you want to see the gist of my headcanons about him please refer this particular post. 🐙 (Search the key word 'prophecies' and scroll down if link doesn't work)
There's a lot more than that but I need time to find all of the posts. When you're scrolling in the tags and you see dolls and craft work. I'm the one 😬
Self reflection - I not only say "I love Goemon" all the time in my posts, I do headcanons, use my intellect to analyse his character, make fanart and other creative stuff. The soul of Goemon is contained in the manga and I made a big plush, experiment fashion on it and take care of it to show my affection and respect towards that soul.
I also learned things from him. Like - it's important to eat vegetables: from harvest festival.
The importance of a communal gathering: harvest festival.
I hated fish but I saw him having fish and I started to eat it too and my mom is thankful to him.
I nicknamed Goemon samurai Degozaru
Others : Irubaby- Iruma, Clara boo, mairuma mommy- Opera san. Shaxy- lied, aniki- Jazz, beautiful sensei - Ipos ichou, millipede sensei - Marbas March
I'm an Asian. I was born in South India. I can speak in three languages, English, my mother tongue and Hindi: the one priyanka chopra speaks. I play three instruments - trumpet, keyboard and flute. I play badminton.
I'm a Desi, where Bollywood is. I draw and dress up Goemon in Indian style too. I'm one of the very few Indian 🇮🇳 blogs that makes posts in the mairuma fandom and I know that most fans are from other countries. My posts reflect my culture, not always but sometimes everyone may not understand and they misjudge me. You can clarify any doubts with me.
That's all. If you have any questions you can ask me. Thank you 😊

It's nice to see how Kalego changed from Iruma's pov. He was first the scary and stern teacher, the guy who "hated" him for have turned him into his familiar and that Iruma didn't want make more angry toward him.
Now, i think that Iruma sees him unconsciously as a father figure.
First we see it during the Harvest Festival when he has the trauma vision, Kalego is here, like if he was at the same level that Sullivan, Opera, Azz and Clara (when Balam isn't here). Sign that he's important for him now. And the fact that he instinctively called him for help in the last arc.
From Kalego's side, i don't think that Dantalion fully joked when he called out Kalego by saying "my my was it favoritism that i just see, Kalego ~?" when Kalego send a personal message to Iruma, showing clearly sign of worry. Same when Iruma comes back, first he asks "what the hell didn't you do" and then immediatly "are you hurt?" before showing sign of being a little impressed when Iruma says "i'm going to win"
The mini arc about his contract with Iruma shows that he trusts and likes him enough to tell him the truth about what is Cerberus and rassure him about the future "even if you lost me as familiar…" we see how their bound changed and become more positive.
I think that it's not for nothing that DadLego is popular XD
(well it's not hard to be better than Iruma biological father -_- but still, Kalego is totally become a father figure)
(meanwhile Opera and Balam are the mothers-hen)
Yesss i love him so much
He acts like an asshole
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But he very obviously cares about them now. Like i dont think he's had any negative feelings towards them since the royal room thing (he looked very serious when irumean came demanding the room)
Now he's an exasperated dad trying to help gis idiot son who sometimes does drag
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And i really love the way he trusts iruma regarding the familiar thing, the thing that destroyed his scary-do-not-disrepect reputation. Now he's just kinda ok with things like these
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That's just so cute, and will decimate his reputation the second anyone find out, but he still lets him
And it's not like he only favors iruma, he likes the whole class but in more subtle ways. But to be fair its not like they are the ones who had to have an unbreakable bond for a year
And true, balam and opera are mother-hens. They will smother iruma and affection the second he's within arm's reach
I love this trio

You Can’t Fool Me
In which Iruma gets injured for the first time in the demon realm.
This fic contains ✨tickling✨ so if that might bother you, then I suggest you keep scrolling!
A/N: I’m really happy with how this turned out!! I wanted to write some good old angst/comfort. I also felt like challenging myself to write what would happen if Azz was angry/frustrated with Iruma. I feel like it's a side of him we haven’t seen yet. Also, Iruma is generally a cheerful guy, but I feel like the inside of his brain must be a mess sometimes. He had a really hard life and still probably struggles with believing he deserves love (show him otherwise, everyone!). I feel like he would be quite reluctant to ask for/accept help since he’s so used to taking care of himself.
Also, LOL. This started because I wanted to write a princess carry scene. It wasn’t even meant to have any tickling. Then it became this. I’m not upset at all, just amused.
CW: Some cursing
Well, shit. Now he’d really done it. Iruma looked down at his ankle, already beginning to swell slightly, and sighed. It’d been a minute since he’d felt so human here. He stopped to think for a moment; he knew enough about the demon realm by now to know that weakness wasn’t something to go flaunting around. But then, he was used to taking care of himself from his time back on earth. There was no need to bother anyone; getting home by himself would be no issue. That left what to do after... Should he ask Opera or his Grandpa for help once he got back? It was only a sprained ankle, so he didn’t want to overthink things. After all, how many injuries had he patched up over the years back in the human world? He took another deep breath as he realized there was no point in making a deal out of such a minor injury. First he’d get home, then find some wraps, and take care of it. He’d be careful on his way to and from school and this would be over within a few days. Problem solved. Thank devils Clara and Azz hadn’t been here to witness his blunder... He had a feeling they might have overreacted some. Feeling satisfied that he’d worked through everything, he picked himself back up and began hobbling home.
• • •
Everything was fine. Everything was just fine. All he had to do was focus on the next step. Then another. That’s all there was to it. Or at least, that’s what Iruma was telling himself so he didn’t lose the will to walk and just sit down. For the past few days, he’d tried icing it, elevating it, and wrapping it. The whole nine yards. It had helped a little, but devils did the thing hurt. It hurt so bad. It didn’t seem to get any better either, only worse. It looked more swollen than before and he couldn’t put most of his weight on it. But he was stubborn and a little scared. He’d gotten through worse and now wasn’t the time to fold. Not to mention that the idea of missing school and not seeing his friends sounded so much worse.
He was currently walking to his next class with Azz. His attention was torn between staying focused on their conservation and focusing on his footing. It was just his luck that a rock would appear the moment he took to look up at Azz’s face. Before he knew it, he had stumbled and found himself falling forward.
Damn, was I always this clumsy?
He braced himself for pain, hoping it wouldn’t make his injury worse than it already was. This is fine. I’m fine. Everything is fine.
“Iruma-sama!”
He didn’t hit the ground. He blinked, trying to process what had happened. He felt Azz’s arm was wrapped protectively around him, steadying him.
“T-thanks Azz-kun! Whoops, haha, silly me. Have to watch where I step...”
“Iruma-sama, are you alright? Are you tired? I could carry some things for you?”
Iruma took one look at Asmodeus’ worried face and gulped. I don’t want to make anyone worry about me. It’s fine. I’m fine.
“Nothing to worry about! Especially thanks to your reflexes,” he added.
“You may be able to fool others, but you cannot fool me, Iruma-sama.” Azz said seriously. “What is going on?” He still hadn’t let go.
“I-I don’t know what you’re talking about Azz-kun! Come on, let’s get going to class”, he said with what he hoped was a convincing smile.
He gently shrugged out of the demon’s grasp and took a tentative step forward. Then another and another. Asmodeus followed after a moment. As Iruma gained confidence, he began to walk faster, determined to prove to Azz that he was fine. Unfortunately, pure determination was not going to heal his ankle that fast. Within a minute, he managed to tweak his sprained ankle again.
“Guh!” he said, crumpling to the ground.
Iruma closed his eyes. This was so embarrassing... He didn’t want to see Azz’s reaction. While deep down he knew it would be fine, he was still scared. What if Azz laughed at him? Or called him weak?? His heart twisted painfully at the idea. Plus he’d just told the demon he was fine. I am fine. I’m...fine. He repeated the mantra to himself, as if that would make it come true. Iruma was so caught up in his ruminations, that he didn’t hear Azz approach. He only noticed when he felt a soft hand above his ankle; the injured one. He frantically tried to pull away, but Azz’s grip was as firm as it was gentle. He heard an audible gasp, which he knew there could only be one cause for. Shit. Even though he had it bandaged, Azz would still be able to see that it was purple and definitely swollen. Iruma reluctantly looked up into Azz’s worried eyes and immediately felt so, so guilty.
“Iruma-sama, why didn’t you tell me??”
He was having trouble looking into those eyes.
“I-it's not that big of a deal... just a sprained ankle...”
“What do you mean, not a big deal?? A paper-cut is not a big deal, Iruma-sama. A stubbed toe is not a big deal. Hells, a scratch wouldn’t be that big of a deal. A sprained ankle is. a. big. deal. This is a big deal! Look at how swollen it is!! And purple! When did you even injure it? Has it gotten better at all?!” Asmodeus’ voice steadily raised in volume.
“Just a couple days ago... I’ve been elevating and icing it after school. I didn’t want to miss class.. I wanted to see everyone... I didn’t want to appear weak...” his voice got quieter and quieter.
“I see you have neglected to answer the more important question. Has. it. gotten. better. or. worse.”
Iruma was silent.
“For devil’s sake, you shouldn’t even be walking on this; it will take even longer to heal!! What in the hells has gotten into you?”
Iruma screwed his eyes shut and tried his best to curl up into a ball. Not only had he failed to keep his injury hidden, but now Asmodeus was angry with him. He couldn’t even remember the last time that had happened..
He heard a sigh and suddenly Asmodeus spoke,
“Look, I do not want to be angry at you. I am.. not angry. But, I am frustrated, and a little hurt. Iruma-sama, how would you feel if you were in my place?”
Iruma’s heart throbbed painfully.
“I would.. be worried about you, of course.”
“Then please, you have to take better care of yourself. Do not treat yourself any differently than you would if I or Valec got injured. And it would not kill you to let us help you either.”
“But I can take care of myself just fine, Azz-kun!” he pleaded. “Look, it’s wrapped and I’ve been trying my best. I’ve gotten through much worse!”
Azz’s eyes widened at this. The frustration seemed to melt out of him, replaced with intense concern.
“What do you mean...?”
Iruma looked away as he said,
“I’m not used to receiving help from anyone! I don’t want to be a burden!”
“But, your grandfather..? And Opera-san..? Are you saying they don’t....? That they wouldn’t help..?”
“N-no! Of course not!” Iruma hurriedly said. “I... haven’t always lived with them, though.”
Asmodeus waited to see if Iruma would elaborate, but after several moments in silence decided that today was not the day he would hear about it. He pulled Iruma into a hug, careful not to disturb the injured ankle.
“Fine. I will not pry further today. Just.. understand that we care about you. We are here to help you.” He murmured into Iruma’s hair.
Asmodeus noticed the way Iruma’s shoulders relaxed at this, and it made him feel a bit more like he’d gotten through to his friend.
“All right, we need to get you to the school nurse.”
The shoulder tension was back immediately.
“Are you sure...? I thought it would make me seem weak?”
“Hells no, there’s a difference between sustaining an injury and just being weak. I do not know how you could even question something so obviously wrong. You? Weak? With your rank? It is absolutely absurd to even consider it. Now, let’s get going.”
Asmodeus gathered their things. Iruma moved to try to stand.
“What in the hells do you think you are you doing?”
Iruma tried to recall if he had ever heard Azz curse this much before.
“Um, trying to stand up?”
“On that ankle? I should think not,” Asmodeus scoffed. He returned with their bags on his back. With a quick motion, he swept his arms underneath Iruma’s knees and around his shoulders.
“Wah!?” Iruma spluttered. “A-Azz-kun?? W-what are you doing??”
“What does it look like, Iruma-sama? I am carrying you to the nurse’s office of course.”
“I-I must be heavy though! A-and you have the bags too?”
Asmodeus’ eyes flashed dangerously.
“Are you trying to imply that I am too weak?”
“N-no that isn't what I meant! I just don’t want to trouble you!”
“Trouble me? Please.”
“But… Azz-kun…,” Iruma stammered.
“Would you please stop squirming and just let me take care of you?!” Asmodeus huffed.
The magic word did its thing. Iruma was still very much embarrassed, and still wanted to protest but well... Asmodeus had said please. He never could say no to that.
“I-I suppose..”
“A simple thank you would suffice at a time like this, Iruma-sama. It is my greatest honor to support you in any way I can. Never doubt that.”
Iruma turned a few shades darker red and mumbled “thank you..”, but found himself still quietly fidgeting. It didn’t compare to the actual fight he’d been putting up a minute ago, but it was clearly irking Asmodeus. After a few more steps the demon said,
“If you want to squirm so badly Iruma-sama, shall I give you a reason to?”
Iruma looked up at Asmodeus’ deceivingly bright smile and shivered. His whole face screamed,
Danger!! Do not engage!!
But before Iruma could say anything at all, Azz slipped his fingers into Iruma’s armpit and began lightly scribbling. Seeing how Azz was also carrying him, and had a pretty tight grip, Iruma was totally stuck.
“Wahaha! W-wahahait Ahahahazz-kun! P-please! Hehe!”
“You’re lucky that I need to get you to the nurse’s office, or I think I would tickle you silly so you would never consider doing this again. My goodness, what am I going to do with you, Iruma-sama?”
“Pffft! I-I’m ehehe!! I’m sohohorry! I won’t do it ahahagain, p-promise!!”
Asmodeus seemed to consider this for a moment, then flashed his fangs in another blinding smile.
“Actually, no. I have decided. I will tickle you silly after your ankle has properly healed. Please prepare yourself, Iruma-sama.”
Iruma gulped. He felt flustered and embarrassed, but also a little giddy at the thought.
“For now though, I’ll just distract you with tickles until we get to the nurse’s office. Maybe that’ll stop these ridiculous notions that you’re bothering me from coming out of your mouth.”
“Ahahahazz-kuhuhun! Nohohoho!”
“Oh, Iruma-sama. You got yourself into this mess, you will just have to take it. Tickle tickle, you’ve got nowhere to run.”
“Nahahaha! P-plehehease s-stohop!”
“The tickling or the teasing?” Asmodeus asked with a quirked eyebrow.
“B-bohohoth! Eep! Ihihit tihihickles soho bahahad!”
“Hmmm, no. That doesn’t sound like my problem. Maybe you should have thought about this before you kept your injury from me, tried to walk it off, and implied I was too weak to carry you and our bags”
“B-buhuhut! I-I cahahahan’t mohohohove! EEK! Wahaha, it tickles!! Ihihihit tihihihickles!!”
“Does it now? A fascinating revelation, Iruma-sama.”
Iruma’s laughter went silent for a moment. Azz continued,
“At this rate, you’ll be lucky if I don’t carry you around the rest of today. And the next few days. We shall see what the nurse says. And no matter what, you will be going home in your grandfather’s carriage today.”
Iruma laughed and giggled the whole way to the nurse’s office, all worries of being perceived as weak completely gone. He went home in the carriage, at Asmodeus’ suggestion, and apologized to his Grandfather and Opera-san for keeping the injury from them. He resolved to work on letting his friends and family help him in the future. It was easier said than done, but whenever his resolve wavered, Asmodeus was there to give him a gentle, giggly reminder.

Work...
Well... it can only be expected that after centuries of being left alone, the title of demon king came with a lot of responsibilities. Iruma just didn't realize how much work.
He starts at the ocean full of papers filling the office. He let's out a nervous laugh and quickly closed the door before it could flood the hall. He never imagined it would be that much.
He was going to need some help. So, of course, he gets his former classmates' assistance. The newly established 13 crowns and him can accomplish anything.
Thankfully, a lot of it is old issues. Things that either dissolved on its own or died out. There were some papers that needed to be addressed but nothing too troublesome.
It had taken a few days. But finally, finally, the amount dwindled. They could see the windows. Next, they found the desk. Soon, they can see the floor!
They celebrated when the room was finally clear. Weeks of work were worth it. After days of partying and drinking, they pass out on the floor.
Upon waking up, he stares up at his teachers looming face. "K-kalego-sensei!" He yelps. His teacher raises an eyebrow.
"I see you're all enjoying yourselves." He says in a droll tone. "A-ah well..." "Celebrating over something so trivial when there's more to be done."
Iruma stares with wide eyes as more stacks of papers are brought in. His former teacher has that smug smirk on his face. Like he's won the lottery.
"Did you really think that centuries' worth of work would be solved in just a few weeks? You still have several more rooms full of work to finish."
Of course, upon hearing this, his friends start overreacting. "NOOOOO!!!!" "I'LL BURN IT ALL DOWN!" "GO ON WITHOUT ME!" "EVIL PAPER MONSTERS!"
Iruma just laughs and enjoys the small outbursts of chaos. Of course, it wouldn't be so simple. Nothing ever was in the netherworld.
But he was happy. Really, he had such great friends. He was glad he had a teacher who still helped him even though he was no longer a student.
Work... if this is what working with people you care about was like he didn't mind. The stacks of papers would get done. Eventually...
He watches as soi gets buried under a mound of papers. Jazz and Lied are digging around frantically to find him. Clara is making origami masks while Alice burns them.

HII good morning time for ask game. Throwing rare ssmy ones at the board. Shirabashi. Hiramiya. uhhh kuresawa tashiro No wait i cant do that to kuresawa. He loves his girlfriend. I WILL do it to ogasawara though. ogasawara x sasaki. And for fun if you have brain power. tell me about ur favorite mairuma dynamics….
HIII GOOD MORNING I’ve still got twenty minutes til noon as I write this part it counts. woke up read this and said aloud Oh sunnfish loves me…. my friends love me………
shirabashi: I get it, it doesn’t compel me*.
*I’m continuing my effort to get myself into these things. this is definitely still following the trend of I’m Not Doing Enough To Mindpalace Niibashi. sunnfish wouldn’t it be really funny if I shoved him into pathologic au. no better way to get me really invested in you than to suffer sundry agonies I’d say.
I think some of the kagibashi points sort of reflect onto the wall a little warped here which is really fun. Why are you tall. why are you so good at basketball. How Are You Single. followed by one conversation that concludes, Oh, that’s why. being someone who knows that shirahama cares so much about his appearance adds some fun color to this too. I think there’s some fun stuff to poke at there I’ll turn the heat up and let it simmer awhile
hiramiya: I get it, it doesn’t compel me**.
**You know. it’s also kind of a lie I think I just don’t follow through enough on putting petri dish miyano under a microscope. like. I think even in a world where miyano didn’t meet sasaki and consequently did not have to reckon with #BisexualityGate. having bl brain is kind of just a by-default queer thing straight up. Yeah I want to watch Hirano senpai and his handsome roommate I know next to nothing about gently and sensually embrace one another. I want Hirano senpai to be on the bottom. I’m normal. This is normal. like miyano can we talk about this. we’re taking this conversation to the hirakagi dorm and you will put the clipboard DOWN.
in other words Someone definitely would have to pitch me on more straightforward hiramiya—it won’t be hard, I didn’t say hirano was the dating sim au game’s default and preferred route for NO REASON—but going by system settings of What’s funniest. I’m 100% primed to skip down the road of Miyano most insane voyeur moments (#1). this is kind of a theme for hirano ships for me actually. Wait hold on HOLD ON JUST. ONE SEC
Tumblr media
kagi would be there too. just chilling.
I know you took it back but I think a we got married setup with tashiro kuresawa and yuki would legitimately be very funny. just wanted to say that
SASAWARA: HA HA . YOU KNOWWWW…. probably could go trudge up one of my. I’ll be right back again
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
ogasawara sex comedy teaser for public consumption. don’t worry about masato here this isn’t about him
being brief It’s the old friends feeling. being verbose it’s You’ve seen me at my worst and snappiest and least tolerable and you still haven’t gone anywhere. you’re so annoying. are you home right now? need to drop off a cd. you’re gonna hate the third track but the fourth one’s gonna make you cry.
I’m always thinking about it. sasaki wanting ogasawara to leave him and miyano the hell alone on their date but the second ogasawara vanishes sasaki’s texting him Hey, where’d you go? old friends feeling. am throwing up all over the floor currently. I Get It. It Compels me.
MAIRUMA. BY THE WAY. love trio are my kids. I think the passive competition between clara and alice is the funniest cutest thing in the world
Tumblr media
^ page saved in may-nearly-june 2021.
also Literally every single relationship with iruma involved compels me that’s my LITTLE BLUE BOY!!!! going to come back to this on the mairuma front later on the coattails of either rewatching the anime or catching up on the manga. and then They’ll all be sorry…… okay wrapping this one up now I love you sunnfish

What if Bill sold Desmond's soul to a demon in exchange for making Desmond a better assassin when he was still a kid but he didn't clarify that Desmond would still stay with him so the demon took Desmond and just acts like he's his son or grandson and absolutely spoils Desmond and even makes him go to school to have a normal childhood (this is an AC x Welcome to demon school! Iruma-kun au)
I’m gonna be honest with you, nonny, I haven’t caught up with Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-Kun. I stopped watching it after Billy Kametz died (˃̣̣̥﹏˂̣̣̥). I know Stephen Fu would make a good Azz but, yeah, still haven’t gotten back to it so, for this ask, I will focus on the first few episodes of the anime but we’ll add a bit of AC spin to it.
So, we’ll set this up at the same age Iruma was when his soul was sold off and that means Desmond would be 14 years old, around the age when he had begun to not believe in the whole Templar thing. Bill probably assumed that the demon was going by the more commonly believed ‘rule’ where the soul written in a contract made with the devil will only be taken after death (ex: Faustus). Unfortunately for him, Sullivan used that loophole to take Desmond to the underworld as soon as Bill signs the contract.
Sullivan doesn’t tell this to Desmond though, nope. He didn’t necessarily lie. He just didn’t tell Desmond what Bill’s actual wish was. As far as Desmond knew, Bill sold his soul to a demon for an unknown wish and he actually believes that Bill thinks that he’s a lost cause and wished for a better soldier… a child that wouldn’t disappoint him.
Sullivan is, of course, kind and a bit embarrassing grandfatherly and Desmond doesn’t necessarily trust him but he knows he has no other choice but to be his grandson. He does warm up him (and Opera) soon enough because they’ve been kind to him and he doesn’t have to do any training at all.
In this idea, Sullivan and Opera gave him a few days to get his bearing first, especially since he was in a bit of a maudlin mood. Desmond does get used to his life as a member of Sullivan’s household and the strange food they serve. It helps that Desmond wasn’t a picky eater and, really, he was getting bored with having nothing to do.
So when Sullivan tells him that he got Desmond enrolled in a great demon school, Desmond just agreed to it because… well… he has nothing else to do anyway.
And… maybe, just maybe… he was interested in experiencing something that he had only heard about. ‘School’.
Unorganized Notes
Desmond’s first day in school pretty much happened the way it did for Iruma. Sullivan still makes him take over Azz in the introductory speech for first years and Desmond trusts Sullivan enough to recite the ‘no tripping’ spell. Once he knows what it does, Desmond actually recites it each day because it’s a useful spell and, as long as Desmond doesn’t mess up the pronunciation, he won’t die, right?
Desmond also dodges all of Azz’s fireball when Azz duels him and his inhuman dodging capabilities are because of his training as well as his latent Eagle Senses helping him ‘predict’ his opponents’ next moves which he only chalks up to gut feeling because he doesn’t know about Eagle Vision/Senses which has been heighten because this is what Bill had sold Desmond's soul for afterall. He does defeat Azz and earn Azz’s loyalty, much to his confusion.
Desmond knows how to say no and, really, he doesn’t mind saying no to requests but he still agrees to play with Clara because… well… he doesn’t remember when he last played games with someone. He knew he played with the other kids before back on the Farm but it had been so long ago, his memories had been covered by the neverending training he and the other kids were subjected to.
He knows that he’d die if anyone learns he was human and he had no qualms about lying to everyone. Honestly, he’d been trained to lie since he was a child and it was hard for him to blatantly lie but he was okay with being vague or saying misleading things instead so… he’d probably be okay.
Becoming part of the misfit class is still Sullivan’s idea and it’s more of “I think you’d be more relaxed in that class since they’ll take the spotlight from you” and Desmond agrees to it because… well, he sees no reason to disagree with Sullivan’s idea and, also, he was raised to be obedient to his superiors.
He still gets a lot of spotlight from the school newspaper though but Desmond just ignored that. 'As long as he doesn’t talk about it, it doesn’t exist' is his current motto with his growing popularity in school.
Back in the human world, Bill is trying to find a way to get Desmond back and he believes the POEs left behind those who came before us hold the key to bringing Desmond back.
Familiar and Ring:
So I’m putting the familiar and the ring in a different set of notes because we can go for the og route of Desmond unintentionally making Naberius his familiar and have him have the ring of gluttony BUT how about…
So there’s this setup in Familiar of Zero fanfics where Louise summons a different fictional character instead of Saito so we can use that setup during Desmond’s familiar summoning. Sure, he used Naberius’ summoning paper but he needed to summon his familiar using his blood.
Normally, human blood would simply heal demons but Desmond’s blood is different. He has higher than normal Isu genes in his blood.
Also, maybe Desmond doesn’t remember if there was a specific symbol he should have drawn in the parchment so he just went with the Assassin insignia (out of habit or maybe he’s actually getting homesicked?). Either way, the summoning goes awry.
Now, we can go for our ancestor of choice (or really, any AC character you want) for this one, someone that is wholly strange to everyone because only high-ranking demons know that humans exist. And Desmond’s familiar isn’t human, not really. No. According to the records, he had summoned a ghost of some kind.
Or an alternate idea: instead of choosing an ancestor, Desmond could summon a being shrouded in light that slipped into his shadows. Whenever he’s in danger or, really, whenever they feel like it, ghostly apparitions of three men would come to his aid or just talk to him. They don’t say what they are but they do name themselves as Altaïr, Ezio, and Ratonhnhaké:ton. And they act less like familiars and more like Desmond’s guardians and friends. (Also, they have a soft spot for Azz and Clara). His familiar is classified as ‘UNKNOWN’ and no matter what happens, the being shrouded in light never makes an appearance again.
Now, the ring. The ring is meant to be able to store energy that can make it possible for even a human to cast spells and, yeah, sure, we can keep that setup. But instead of a ring of Gluttony… it’s the prototype of the Ring of Eden.
Now, a normal Ring of Eden could only be used as some kind of shield but the prototype had multiple functions, including the absorption of energy that can later be used by the user. Desmond doesn’t know it but the reason why the mass-produced Rings of Eden do not have this function is because the prototype ring couldn’t absorb enough energy to be useable on the long run…
In the non-demon world.
No one knows where the Ring of Eden (known as the Ring of Gluttony) came from BUT it’s rumored first appearance is in the hand of King Solomon, the human who managed to form contracts with multiple demons (a legend).
In the demon world, with Sullivan’s energy as its main power source, the Ring of Eden can be used by Desmond to do magic but it was an automatic shield that activates every time Desmond is in danger or needs to be protected. The demons think it’s cool unknown magic.
The fact that Sullivan can ‘seal’ the Ring of Gluttony makes the three apparitions be wary of him since that ring is not of demon origin but Desmond doesn’t really share their concern since Sullivan seems to be looking out for him anyway.

Okay, so random monologue about Welcome To Demon School Iruma-kun.
If you don't know the show it's an anime, and the mc Iruma is a very unfortunate human boy who's sold to a demon by his dumb parents. Plot twist, this turns out to be the best thing to ever happen to him as the demon he was sold to adopts him as his grandson and spoils him like crazy.
Plot synopsis out of the way, Iruma totally has some kind of binge eating disorder right? I'm not sure if I should call this a theory or a headcanon. Also, keep in mind I know little to nothing about eating disorders.
One of Iruma's little quirks is that, despite being a very tiny boi, he can eat. Like my man probably eats well over his own body weight daily. For most of his life, he was surviving on his own, completely independent. He had to scavenge for whatever food he could get his hands on. Even if it was just grass! (Can a human even survive on just wild plants?) It's clearly stated that, because of this, Iruma has a survivalist mentality when it comes to food.
Any opportunity to eat should be taken, and he needed to eat as much as possible to keep himself going.
(Like the second episode I think if we're sighting sources.)
After he's adopted Iruma is free to eat as much as he wants. After all his grandfather is probably super extra loaded. He could probably afford to fill a public swimming pool with caviar. Now, being a big eater is a common quirk among anime characters, but it's usually just used for laughs or just a character trait. In Iruma's case, this habit of his has an actual effect on him.
In the beginning, everyone is impressed by whatever hammerspace that must exist in Iruma's stomach. He's like 5'1" and considering his past life very thin, but he can eat 50 servings from the school cafeteria. However, things start to change as his first year at Bablys demon school comes to an end.
During the Harvest Festival, Iruma's survival instincts are reawakened and he falls back on old habits. He and Lied use some of the ingredients they gather early on for food because Iruma knows they'll need to pace themselves and keep their strength up. He intended to leave some to use for points but gets carried away and eats everything. Then at the beginning of the Music Festival Arc Purson rats him out for snacking in class, and during The Misfit's Wild Party, Clara comments that Iruma has gained weight.
After these events, we see three things happen.
Iruma starts to think negatively about his eating habits. After the Music Festival Ameri takes him to a fancy restaurant. After they've eaten and she leaves to talk to the staff Iruma thinks to himself that he ate too much. (He doesn't really try to change his habit though.)
Iruma has become self-conscious about his weight. When Clara comments on it he denies it and tries to escape her teasing. During his check-up with Professor Balam he gets an unhappy look on his face when he mentions Iruma's weight but relaxes and smiles when Balam says it's within the healthy range.
Clara and Azz start monitoring his eating habits and prevent him from snacking at school. Clara does give in to him at times, and Iruma hides his snacks like a chipmunk and sneaks off so he can eat without disruption. (Opera also denies Iruma dessert at dinner after he ate a ton of sweets with Batchco earlier that day. An effort was made.)
I think that it would make a lot of sense for Iruma to have some kind of eating disorder after how he grew up in the human world. It would also be another facet of all the trauma his parents caused him that Iruma will need to confront.
(Honestly, Mr. and Mrs. Suzuki were dumb. How are they still alive? Please let them show back up just so Iruma can go off on them. Better yet sick Azz and Clara on them, the whole Misfit Class, the Student Council, the teachers, Opera, the Thirteen Crowns. Everyone gets a turn! Heck let me take a crack at em!)
Okay, that's all I got uhhhhhhhhhhhh bye.
